Abstract

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) receives a channel state information (CSI) reporting configuration including a set of measurement resources for determining predicted channel characteristics for a set of prediction target occasions. The UE is further configured with a set of performance monitoring resources for monitoring performance of the predicted channel characteristics, where the set of performance monitoring resources may be configured via the same CSI reporting configuration, or a different CSI reporting configuration. The UE performs a first set of measurements within the set of measurement resources, and generate the predicted channel characteristics for the set of prediction target occasions based on the first set of measurements. The UE then performs a second set of measurements within the performance monitoring resources, and evaluate an accuracy / performance of the predicted channel characteristics by comparing the first and second sets of measurements.

[0001] The present Application for Patent claims benefit of PCT International Application No. PCT / CN2024 / 130786 by LI et al., entitled “TECHNIQUES FOR CONFIGURATION OF PERFORMANCE MONITORING OF REFERENCE SIGNALS AND REPORTS, ” filed November 8, 2024, assigned to the assignee hereof, and hereby expressly incorporated by reference herein in its entirety as if fully set forth below and for all applicable purposes. FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY

[0002] The following relates to wireless communications, including techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports.BACKGROUND

[0003] Wireless communications systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, and so on. These systems may be capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing the available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power) . Examples of such multiple-access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems, and fifth generation (5G) systems which may be referred to as New Radio (NR) systems. These systems may employ technologies such as code division multiple access (CDMA) , time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA) , or discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) . A wireless multiple-access communications system may include one or more base stations, each supporting wireless communication for communication devices, which may be known as user equipment (UE) .

[0070] FIG. 26 shows a diagram of a system including a device that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure.

[0071] FIGs. 27 through 30 show flowcharts illustrating methods that support techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0072] In some wireless communications systems, the network and other wireless devices (e.g., user equipments (UEs) ) may use machine learning (ML) models for beam management to perform predictions regarding the quality / performance of beams and other resources. Predictions may be made for resources in the future (e.g., temporal predictions) , and / or for other spatial resources (e.g., first measurements for a first set of spatial beams used to predict performance of second set of spatial beams) . To enable UEs to use such models, the network may configure the UEs with channel measurement resources (CMRs) and prediction target occasions (e.g., channel prediction targets (CPTs) ) , where the UE is configured to perform measurements on reference signals received via the CMRs to make predictions regarding the CPTs. For the purposes of the present disclosure, the terms “prediction target occasions, ” “CPT occasions, ” “CPTs, ” and like terms, may be used interchangeably to refer to occasions / instances for which predictions are made.

[0073] However, conventional techniques for using ML models for beam management may not enable the performance of the models to be easily monitored or evaluated. In other words, conventional techniques do not provide for a performance monitoring mechanism that enables UEs and the network to perform subsequent measurements that may be used to monitor or otherwise evaluate the performance of the ML models making the predictions (e.g., so that the models may be updated and refined) .

[0074] Accordingly, aspects of the present disclosure are directed to various signaling mechanisms for configuring UEs with CMRs, CPTs, and “performance monitoring resources” that may be used to evaluate the performance of ML models used to perform beam management. In particular, the UE may perform measurements on configured “performance monitoring resources, ” where the measurements may be compared to predictions made for the CPTs in order to monitor / evaluate the performance of the ML model used to make the predictions for the CPTs. In some cases, the performance monitoring resources may be the same as the CPTs, or may be different from the CPTs. For example, in some cases, the performance monitoring resources may include a subset of the CPTs. In some implementations, the CMRs, CPTs, and performance monitoring resources may be configured via the same channel state information (CSI) reporting configuration or setting (e.g., via a single CSI-ReportConfig, or single CSI reporting setting) . In other cases, the performance monitoring resources may be configured via a different CSI reporting configuration or setting (e.g., first CSI-ReportConfig or first CSI reporting setting used to configure CMRs and CPTs, and second CSI-ReportConfig or second CSI reporting setting used to configure performance monitoring resources) . For the purposes of the present disclosure, the terms “CSI reporting configuration” (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) and “CSI reporting setting” may be used interchangeably to refer to information elements (or groups of information elements) communicated via control signaling (e.g., RRC signaling) to indicate parameters for reporting CSI. Similarly, the terms “CSI reporting configuration identifier, ” “CSI report configuration identifier, ” “CSI reporting setting identifiers, ” “CSI report setting identifier, ” and like terms, may be used to refer to identifiers or information elements (IEs) (e.g., CSI-ReportConfigId) used to configure or otherwise indicate CSI reporting / report configuration identifiers and / or CSI reporting / report setting identifiers.

[0075] Aspects of the disclosure are initially described in the context of wireless communications systems. Additional aspects of the disclosure are further described in the context of an example performance monitoring configuration, example beam management configurations, and example process flows. Aspects of the disclosure are further illustrated by and described with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flowcharts that relate to techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports.

[0076] FIG. 1 shows an example of a wireless communications system 100 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more devices, such as one or more network devices (e.g., network entities 105) , one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communications system 100 may be a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, an LTE-APro network, a New Radio (NR) network, or a network operating in accordance with other systems and radio technologies, including future systems and radio technologies not explicitly mentioned herein.

[0077] The network entities 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communications system 100 and may include devices in different forms or having different capabilities. In various examples, a network entity 105 may be referred to as a network element, a mobility element, a radio access network (RAN) node, or network equipment, among other nomenclature. In some examples, network entities 105 and UEs 115 may wirelessly communicate via communication link (s) 125 (e.g., a radio frequency (RF) access link) . For example, a network entity 105 may support a coverage area 110 (e.g., a geographic coverage area) over which the UEs 115 and the network entity 105 may establish the communication link (s) 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which a network entity 105 and a UE 115 may support the communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies (RATs) .

[0078] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout a coverage area 110 of the wireless communications system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, or mobile, or both at different times. The UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of supporting communications with various types of devices in the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., other wireless communication devices, including UEs 115 or network entities 105) , as shown in FIG. 1.

[0079] As described herein, a node of the wireless communications system 100, which may be referred to as a network node, or a wireless node, may be a network entity 105 (e.g., any network entity described herein) , a UE 115 (e.g., any UE described herein) , a network controller, an apparatus, a device, a computing system, one or more components, or another suitable processing entity configured to perform any of the techniques described herein. For example, a node may be a UE 115. As another example, a node may be a network entity 105. As another example, a first node may be configured to communicate with a second node or a third node. In one aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a UE 115. In another aspect of this example, the first node may be a UE 115, the second node may be a network entity 105, and the third node may be a network entity 105. In yet other aspects of this example, the first, second, and third nodes may be different relative to these examples. Similarly, reference to a UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like may include disclosure of the UE 115, network entity 105, apparatus, device, computing system, or the like being a node. For example, disclosure that a UE 115 is configured to receive information from a network entity 105 also discloses that a first node is configured to receive information from a second node.

[0080] In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate with a core network 130, or with one another, or both. For example, network entities 105 may communicate with the core network 130 via backhaul communication link (s) 120 (e.g., in accordance with an S1, N2, N3, or other interface protocol) . In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate with one another via backhaul communication link (s) 120 (e.g., in accordance with an X2, Xn, or other interface protocol) either directly (e.g., directly between network entities 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130) . In some examples, network entities 105 may communicate with one another via a midhaul communication link 162 (e.g., in accordance with a midhaul interface protocol) or a fronthaul communication link 168 (e.g., in accordance with a fronthaul interface protocol) , or any combination thereof. The backhaul communication link (s) 120, midhaul communication links 162, or fronthaul communication links 168 may be or include one or more wired links (e.g., an electrical link, an optical fiber link) or one or more wireless links (e.g., a radio link, a wireless optical link) , among other examples or various combinations thereof. A UE 115 may communicate with the core network 130 via a communication link 155.

[0081] One or more of the network entities 105 or network equipment described herein may include or may be referred to as a base station 140 (e.g., a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an NR base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB or giga-NodeB (either of which may be referred to as a gNB) , a 5G NB, a next-generation eNB (ng-eNB) , a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB, or other suitable terminology) . In some examples, a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may be implemented in an aggregated (e.g., monolithic, standalone) base station architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically integrated within one network entity (e.g., a network entity 105 or a single RAN node, such as a base station 140) .

[0082] In some examples, a network entity 105 may be implemented in a disaggregated architecture (e.g., a disaggregated base station architecture, a disaggregated RAN architecture) , which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack that is physically or logically distributed among multiple network entities (e.g., network entities 105) , such as an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 105 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , such as a CU 160, a distributed unit (DU) , such as a DU 165, a radio unit (RU) , such as an RU 170, a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) , such as an RIC 175 (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, such as an SMO system 180, or any combination thereof. An RU 170 may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 105 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 105 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some examples, one or more of the network entities 105 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0083] The split of functionality between a CU 160, a DU 165, and an RU 170 is flexible and may support different functionalities depending on which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, RF functions, or any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU 160, a DU 165, or an RU 170. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU 160 and a DU 165 such that the CU 160 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU 165 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some examples, the CU 160 may host upper protocol layer (e.g., layer 3 (L3) , layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU 160 (e.g., one or more CUs) may be connected to a DU 165 (e.g., one or more DUs) or an RU 170 (e.g., one or more RUs) , or some combination thereof, and the DUs 165, RUs 170, or both may host lower protocol layers, such as layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160. Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU 165 and an RU 170 such that the DU 165 may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU 170 may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU 165 may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or multiple different RUs, such as an RU 170) . In some cases, a functional split between a CU 160 and a DU 165 or between a DU 165 and an RU 170 may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU 160, a DU 165, or an RU 170, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU 160, the DU 165, or the RU 170) . A CU 160 may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU 160 may be connected to a DU 165 via a midhaul communication link 162 (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU 165 may be connected to an RU 170 via a fronthaul communication link 168 (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some examples, a midhaul communication link 162 or a fronthaul communication link 168 may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities (e.g., one or more of the network entities 105) that are in communication via such communication links.

[0084] In some wireless communications systems (e.g., the wireless communications system 100) , infrastructure and spectral resources for radio access may support wireless backhaul link capabilities to supplement wired backhaul connections, providing an IAB network architecture (e.g., to a core network 130) . In some cases, in an IAB network, one or more of the network entities 105 (e.g., network entities 105 or IAB node (s) 104) may be partially controlled by each other. The IAB node (s) 104 may be referred to as a donor entity or an IAB donor. A DU 165 or an RU 170 may be partially controlled by a CU 160 associated with a network entity 105 or base station 140 (such as a donor network entity or a donor base station) . The one or more donor entities (e.g., IAB donors) may be in communication with one or more additional devices (e.g., IAB node (s) 104) via supported access and backhaul links (e.g., backhaul communication link (s) 120) . IAB node (s) 104 may include an IAB mobile termination (IAB-MT) controlled (e.g., scheduled) by one or more DUs (e.g., DUs 165) of a coupled IAB donor. An IAB-MT may be equipped with an independent set of antennas for relay of communications with UEs 115 or may share the same antennas (e.g., of an RU 170) of IAB node (s) 104 used for access via the DU 165 of the IAB node (s) 104 (e.g., referred to as virtual IAB-MT (vIAB-MT) ) . In some examples, the IAB node (s) 104 may include one or more DUs (e.g., DUs 165) that support communication links with additional entities (e.g., IAB node (s) 104, UEs 115) within the relay chain or configuration of the access network (e.g., downstream) . In such cases, one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture (e.g., the IAB node (s) 104 or components of the IAB node (s) 104) may be configured to operate according to the techniques described herein.

[0085] For instance, an access network (AN) or RAN may include communications between access nodes (e.g., an IAB donor) , IAB node (s) 104, and one or more UEs 115. The IAB donor may facilitate connection between the core network 130 and the AN (e.g., via a wired or wireless connection to the core network 130) . That is, an IAB donor may refer to a RAN node with a wired or wireless connection to the core network 130. The IAB donor may include one or more of a CU 160, a DU 165, and an RU 170, in which case the CU 160 may communicate with the core network 130 via an interface (e.g., a backhaul link) . The IAB donor and IAB node (s) 104 may communicate via an F1 interface according to a protocol that defines signaling messages (e.g., an F1 AP protocol) . Additionally, or alternatively, the CU 160 may communicate with the core network 130 via an interface, which may be an example of a portion of a backhaul link, and may communicate with other CUs (e.g., including a CU 160 associated with an alternative IAB donor) via an Xn-C interface, which may be an example of another portion of a backhaul link.

[0086] IAB node (s) 104 may refer to RAN nodes that provide IAB functionality (e.g., access for UEs 115, wireless self-backhauling capabilities) . A DU 165 may act as a distributed scheduling node towards child nodes associated with the IAB node (s) 104, and the IAB-MT may act as a scheduled node towards parent nodes associated with IAB node (s) 104. That is, an IAB donor may be referred to as a parent node in communication with one or more child nodes (e.g., an IAB donor may relay transmissions for UEs through other IAB node (s) 104) . Additionally, or alternatively, IAB node (s) 104 may also be referred to as parent nodes or child nodes to other IAB node (s) 104, depending on the relay chain or configuration of the AN. The IAB-MT entity of IAB node (s) 104 may provide a Uu interface for a child IAB node (e.g., the IAB node (s) 104) to receive signaling from a parent IAB node (e.g., the IAB node (s) 104) , and a DU interface (e.g., a DU 165) may provide a Uu interface for a parent IAB node to signal to a child IAB node or UE 115.

[0087] For example, IAB node (s) 104 may be referred to as parent nodes that support communications for child IAB nodes, or may be referred to as child IAB nodes associated with IAB donors, or both. An IAB donor may include a CU 160 with a wired or wireless connection (e.g., backhaul communication link (s) 120) to the core network 130 and may act as a parent node to IAB node (s) 104. For example, the DU 165 of an IAB donor may relay transmissions to UEs 115 through IAB node (s) 104, or may directly signal transmissions to a UE 115, or both. The CU 160 of the IAB donor may signal communication link establishment via an F1 interface to IAB node (s) 104, and the IAB node (s) 104 may schedule transmissions (e.g., transmissions to the UEs 115 relayed from the IAB donor) through one or more DUs (e.g., DUs 165) . That is, data may be relayed to and from IAB node (s) 104 via signaling via an NR Uu interface to MT of IAB node (s) 104 (e.g., other IAB node (s) ) . Communications with IAB node (s) 104 may be scheduled by a DU 165 of the IAB donor or of IAB node (s) 104.

[0088] In the case of the techniques described herein applied in the context of a disaggregated RAN architecture, one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture may be configured to support techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports as described herein. For example, some operations described as being performed by a UE 115 or a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140) may additionally, or alternatively, be performed by one or more components of the disaggregated RAN architecture (e.g., components such as an IAB node, a DU 165, a CU 160, an RU 170, an RIC 175, an SMO system 180) .

[0089] A UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable terminology, where the “device” may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. A UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, a UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communications (MTC) device, among other examples, which may be implemented in various objects such as appliances, vehicles, or meters, among other examples.

[0090] The UEs 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as UEs 115 that may sometimes operate as relays, as well as the network entities 105 and the network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, among other examples, as shown in FIG. 1.

[0091] The UEs 115 and the network entities 105 may wirelessly communicate with one another via the communication link (s) 125 (e.g., one or more access links) using resources associated with one or more carriers. The term “carrier” may refer to a set of RF spectrum resources having a defined PHY layer structure for supporting the communication link (s) 125. For example, a carrier used for the communication link (s) 125 may include a portion of an RF spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth part (BWP) ) that is operated according to one or more PHY layer channels for a given RAT (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR) . Each PHY layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information) , control signaling that coordinates operation for the carrier, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communications system 100 may support communication with a UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. A UE 115 may be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used with both frequency division duplexing (FDD) and time division duplexing (TDD) component carriers. Communication between a network entity 105 and other devices may refer to communication between the devices and any portion (e.g., entity, sub-entity) of a network entity 105. For example, the terms “transmitting, ” “receiving, ” or “communicating, ” when referring to a network entity 105, may refer to any portion of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, a CU 160, a DU 165, a RU 170) of a RAN communicating with another device (e.g., directly or via one or more other network entities, such as one or more of the network entities 105) .

[0092] In some examples, such as in a carrier aggregation configuration, a carrier may have acquisition signaling or control signaling that coordinates operations for other carriers. A carrier may be associated with a frequency channel (e.g., an evolved universal mobile telecommunication system terrestrial radio access (E-UTRA) absolute RF channel number (EARFCN) ) and may be identified according to a channel raster for discovery by the UEs 115. A carrier may be operated in a standalone mode, in which case initial acquisition and connection may be conducted by the UEs 115 via the carrier, or the carrier may be operated in a non-standalone mode, in which case a connection is anchored using a different carrier (e.g., of the same or a different RAT) .

[0093] The communication link (s) 125 of the wireless communications system 100 may include downlink transmissions (e.g., forward link transmissions) from a network entity 105 to a UE 115, uplink transmissions (e.g., return link transmissions) from a UE 115 to a network entity 105, or both, among other configurations of transmissions. Carriers may carry downlink or uplink communications (e.g., in an FDD mode) or may be configured to carry downlink and uplink communications (e.g., in a TDD mode) .

[0094] A carrier may be associated with a particular bandwidth of the RF spectrum and, in some examples, the carrier bandwidth may be referred to as a “system bandwidth” of the carrier or the wireless communications system 100. For example, the carrier bandwidth may be one of a set of bandwidths for carriers of a particular RAT (e.g., 1.4, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, or 80 megahertz (MHz) ) . Devices of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., the network entities 105, the UEs 115, or both) may have hardware configurations that support communications using a particular carrier bandwidth or may be configurable to support communications using one of a set of carrier bandwidths. In some examples, the wireless communications system 100 may include network entities 105 or UEs 115 that support concurrent communications using carriers associated with multiple carrier bandwidths. In some examples, each served UE 115 may be configured for operating using portions (e.g., a sub-band, a BWP) or all of a carrier bandwidth.

[0095] Signal waveforms transmitted via a carrier may be made up of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM) ) . In a system employing MCM techniques, a resource element may refer to resources of one symbol period (e.g., a duration of one modulation symbol) and one subcarrier, in which case the symbol period and subcarrier spacing may be inversely related. The quantity of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both) , such that a relatively higher quantity of resource elements (e.g., in a transmission duration) and a relatively higher order of a modulation scheme may correspond to a relatively higher rate of communication. A wireless communications resource may refer to a combination of an RF spectrum resource, a time resource, and a spatial resource (e.g., a spatial layer, a beam) , and the use of multiple spatial resources may increase the data rate or data integrity for communications with a UE 115.

[0096] One or more numerologies for a carrier may be supported, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing (Δf) and a cyclic prefix. A carrier may be divided into one or more BWPs having the same or different numerologies. In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured with multiple BWPs. In some examples, a single BWP for a carrier may be active at a given time and communications for the UE 115 may be restricted to one or more active BWPs.

[0097] The time intervals for the network entities 105 or the UEs 115 may be expressed in multiples of a basic time unit which may, for example, refer to a sampling period of Ts=1 / (Δfmax·Nf) seconds, for which Δfmax may represent a supported subcarrier spacing, and Nf may represent a supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size. Time intervals of a communications resource may be organized according to radio frames each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms) ) . Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023) .

[0098] Each frame may include multiple consecutively-numbered subframes or slots, and each subframe or slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided (e.g., in the time domain) into subframes, and each subframe may be further divided into a quantity of slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable quantity of slots, and the quantity of slots may depend on subcarrier spacing. Each slot may include a quantity of symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix prepended to each symbol period) . In some wireless communications systems, such as the wireless communications system 100, a slot may further be divided into multiple mini-slots associated with one or more symbols. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may be associated with one or more (e.g., Nf) sampling periods. The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or frequency band of operation.

[0099] A subframe, a slot, a mini-slot, or a symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communications system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI) . In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., a quantity of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally, or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communications system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs) ) .

[0100] Physical channels may be multiplexed for communication using a carrier according to various techniques. A physical control channel and a physical data channel may be multiplexed for signaling via a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of time division multiplexing (TDM) techniques, frequency division multiplexing (FDM) techniques, or hybrid TDM-FDM techniques. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET) ) for a physical control channel may be defined by a set of symbol periods and may extend across the system bandwidth or a subset of the system bandwidth of the carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of the UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search control regions for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or multiple control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. An aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to an amount of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs) ) associated with encoded information for a control information format having a given payload size. Search space sets may include common search space sets configured for sending control information to UEs 115 (e.g., one or more UEs) or may include UE-specific search space sets for sending control information to a UE 115 (e.g., a specific UE) .

[0101] In some examples, a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) may be movable and therefore provide communication coverage for a moving coverage area, such as the coverage area 110. In some examples, coverage areas 110 (e.g., different coverage areas) associated with different technologies may overlap, but the coverage areas 110 (e.g., different coverage areas) may be supported by the same network entity (e.g., a network entity 105) . In some other examples, overlapping coverage areas, such as a coverage area 110, associated with different technologies may be supported by different network entities (e.g., the network entities 105) . The wireless communications system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of the network entities 105 support communications for coverage areas 110 (e.g., different coverage areas) using the same or different RATs.

[0102] The wireless communications system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communications or low-latency communications, or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communications system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) . The UEs 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable, low-latency, or critical functions. Ultra-reliable communications may include private communication or group communication and may be supported by one or more services such as push-to-talk, video, or data. Support for ultra-reliable, low-latency functions may include prioritization of services, and such services may be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, and ultra-reliable low-latency may be used interchangeably herein.

[0103] In some examples, a UE 115 may be configured to support communicating directly with other UEs (e.g., one or more of the UEs 115) via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link, such as a D2D communication link 135 (e.g., in accordance with a peer-to-peer (P2P) , D2D, or sidelink protocol) . In some examples, one or more UEs 115 of a group that are performing D2D communications may be within the coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) , which may support aspects of such D2D communications being configured by (e.g., scheduled by) the network entity 105. In some examples, one or more UEs 115 of such a group may be outside the coverage area 110 of a network entity 105 or may be otherwise unable to or not configured to receive transmissions from a network entity 105. In some examples, groups of the UEs 115 communicating via D2D communications may support a one-to-many (1: M) system in which each UE 115 transmits to one or more of the UEs 115 in the group. In some examples, a network entity 105 may facilitate the scheduling of resources for D2D communications. In some other examples, D2D communications may be carried out between the UEs 115 without an involvement of a network entity 105.

[0104] In some systems, a D2D communication link 135 may be an example of a communication channel, such as a sidelink communication channel, between vehicles (e.g., UEs 115) . In some examples, vehicles may communicate using vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, or some combination of these. A vehicle may signal information related to traffic conditions, signal scheduling, weather, safety, emergencies, or any other information relevant to a V2X system. In some examples, vehicles in a V2X system may communicate with roadside infrastructure, such as roadside units, or with the network via one or more network nodes (e.g., network entities 105, base stations 140, RUs 170) using vehicle-to-network (V2N) communications, or with both.

[0105] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or 5G core (5GC) , which may include at least one control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management function (AMF) ) and at least one user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management for the UEs 115 served by the network entities 105 (e.g., base stations 140) associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be transferred through the user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation as well as other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to IP services 150 for one or more network operators. The IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, Intranet (s) , an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) , or a Packet-Switched Streaming Service.

[0106] The wireless communications system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, which may be in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz) . Generally, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is known as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from approximately one decimeter to one meter in length. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, which may be referred to as clusters, but the waves may penetrate structures sufficiently for a macro cell to provide service to the UEs 115 located indoors. Communications using UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than one hundred kilometers) compared to communications using the smaller frequencies and longer waves of the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portion of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0107] The wireless communications system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed RF spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communications system 100 may employ License Assisted Access (LAA) , LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) RAT, or NR technology using an unlicensed band such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. While operating using unlicensed RF spectrum bands, devices such as the network entities 105 and the UEs 115 may employ carrier sensing for collision detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations using unlicensed bands may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration in conjunction with component carriers operating using a licensed band (e.g., LAA) . Operations using unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, among other examples.

[0108] A network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) or a UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ techniques such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of a network entity 105 or a UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly, such as an antenna tower. In some examples, antennas or antenna arrays associated with a network entity 105 may be located at diverse geographic locations. A network entity 105 may include an antenna array with a set of rows and columns of antenna ports that the network entity 105 may use to support beamforming of communications with a UE 115. Likewise, a UE 115 may include one or more antenna arrays that may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally, or alternatively, an antenna panel may support RF beamforming for a signal transmitted via an antenna port.

[0109] The network entities 105 or the UEs 115 may use MIMO communications to exploit multipath signal propagation and increase spectral efficiency by transmitting or receiving multiple signals via different spatial layers. Such techniques may be referred to as spatial multiplexing. The multiple signals may, for example, be transmitted by the transmitting device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Likewise, the multiple signals may be received by the receiving device via different antennas or different combinations of antennas. Each of the multiple signals may be referred to as a separate spatial stream and may carry information associated with the same data stream (e.g., the same codeword) or different data streams (e.g., different codewords) . Different spatial layers may be associated with different antenna ports used for channel measurement and reporting. MIMO techniques include single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) , for which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to the same receiving device, and multiple-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) , for which multiple spatial layers are transmitted to multiple devices.

[0110] Beamforming, which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception, is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a network entity 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining the signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array such that some signals propagating along particular orientations with respect to an antenna array experience constructive interference while others experience destructive interference. The adjustment of signals communicated via the antenna elements may include a transmitting device or a receiving device applying amplitude offsets, phase offsets, or both to signals carried via the antenna elements associated with the device. The adjustments associated with each of the antenna elements may be defined by a beamforming weight set associated with a particular orientation (e.g., with respect to the antenna array of the transmitting device or receiving device, or with respect to some other orientation) .

[0111] A network entity 105 or a UE 115 may use beam sweeping techniques as part of beamforming operations. For example, a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) may use multiple antennas or antenna arrays (e.g., antenna panels) to conduct beamforming operations for directional communications with a UE 115. Some signals (e.g., synchronization signals, reference signals, beam selection signals, or other control signals) may be transmitted by a network entity 105 multiple times along different directions. For example, the network entity 105 may transmit a signal according to different beamforming weight sets associated with different directions of transmission. Transmissions along different beam directions may be used to identify (e.g., by a transmitting device, such as a network entity 105, or by a receiving device, such as a UE 115) a beam direction for later transmission or reception by the network entity 105.

[0112] Some signals, such as data signals associated with a particular receiving device, may be transmitted by a transmitting device (e.g., a network entity 105 or a UE 115) along a single beam direction (e.g., a direction associated with the receiving device, such as another network entity 105 or UE 115) . In some examples, the beam direction associated with transmissions along a single beam direction may be determined based on a signal that was transmitted along one or more beam directions. For example, a UE 115 may receive one or more of the signals transmitted by the network entity 105 along different directions and may report to the network entity 105 an indication of the signal that the UE 115 received with a highest signal quality or an otherwise acceptable signal quality.

[0113] In some examples, transmissions by a device (e.g., by a network entity 105 or a UE 115) may be performed using multiple beam directions, and the device may use a combination of digital precoding or beamforming to generate a combined beam for transmission (e.g., from a network entity 105 to a UE 115) . The UE 115 may report feedback that indicates precoding weights for one or more beam directions, and the feedback may correspond to a configured set of beams across a system bandwidth or one or more sub-bands. The network entity 105 may transmit a reference signal (e.g., a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) , a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) ) , which may be precoded or unprecoded. The UE 115 may provide feedback for beam selection, which may be a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) or codebook-based feedback (e.g., a multi-panel type codebook, a linear combination type codebook, a port selection type codebook) . Although these techniques are described with reference to signals transmitted along one or more directions by a network entity 105 (e.g., a base station 140, an RU 170) , a UE 115 may employ similar techniques for transmitting signals multiple times along different directions (e.g., for identifying a beam direction for subsequent transmission or reception by the UE 115) or for transmitting a signal along a single direction (e.g., for transmitting data to a receiving device) .

[0114] A receiving device (e.g., a UE 115) may perform reception operations in accordance with multiple receive configurations (e.g., directional listening) when receiving various signals from a transmitting device (e.g., a network entity 105) , such as synchronization signals (SSs) , reference signals (RSs) , beam selection signals, or other control signals. For example, a receiving device may perform reception in accordance with multiple receive directions by receiving via different antenna subarrays, by processing received signals according to different antenna subarrays, by receiving according to different receive beamforming weight sets (e.g., different directional listening weight sets) applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, or by processing received signals according to different receive beamforming weight sets applied to signals received at multiple antenna elements of an antenna array, any of which may be referred to as “listening” according to different receive configurations or receive directions. In some examples, a receiving device may use a single receive configuration to receive along a single beam direction (e.g., when receiving a data signal) . The single receive configuration may be aligned along a beam direction determined based on listening according to different receive configuration directions (e.g., a beam direction determined to have a highest signal strength, highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) , or otherwise acceptable signal quality based on listening according to multiple beam directions) .

[0115] The wireless communications system 100 may be a packet-based network that operates according to a layered protocol stack. In the user plane, communications at the bearer or PDCP layer may be IP-based. An RLC layer may perform packet segmentation and reassembly to communicate via logical channels. A MAC layer may perform handling and multiplexing of logical channels into transport channels. The MAC layer also may implement error detection techniques, error correction techniques, or both to support retransmissions to improve link efficiency. In the control plane, an RRC layer may provide establishment, configuration, and maintenance of an RRC connection between a UE 115 and a network entity 105 or a core network 130 supporting radio bearers for user plane data. A PHY layer may map transport channels to physical channels.

[0116] The UEs 115 and the network entities 105 may support retransmissions of data to increase the likelihood that data is received successfully. Hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback is one technique for increasing the likelihood that data is received correctly via a communication link (e.g., the communication link (s) 125, a D2D communication link 135) . HARQ may include a combination of error detection (e.g., using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) ) , forward error correction (FEC) , and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ) ) . HARQ may improve throughput at the MAC layer in relatively poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise conditions) . In some examples, a device may support same-slot HARQ feedback, in which case the device may provide HARQ feedback in a specific slot for data received via a previous symbol in the slot. In some other examples, the device may provide HARQ feedback in a subsequent slot, or according to some other time interval.

[0117] Certain aspects and techniques as described herein may be implemented, at least in part, using an artificial intelligence (AI) program, such as a program that includes a ML or artificial neural network (ANN) model. An example ML model may include mathematical representations or define computing capabilities for making inferences from input data based on patterns or relationships identified in the input data. As used herein, the term “inferences” can include one or more of decisions, predictions, determinations, or values, which may represent outputs of the ML model. The computing capabilities may be defined in terms of certain parameters of the ML model, such as weights and biases. Weights may indicate relationships between certain input data and certain outputs of the ML model, and biases are offsets which may indicate a starting point for outputs of the ML model. An example ML model operating on input data may start at an initial output based on the biases and then update its output based on a combination of the input data and the weights.

[0118] In some aspects, an ML model may be configured to provide computing capabilities for wireless communications. Such an ML model may be configured with weights and biases to perform measurement prediction based on measured training data as described herein. Thus, during operation of a device, the ML model may receive input data (such as training data measured according to a training data collection configuration) and make inferences (such as predicted measurements, predicted channel characteristics) based on the weights and biases.

[0119] ML models may be deployed in one or more devices (such as network entities 105 and UEs 115) and may be configured to enhance various aspects of a wireless communication system. For example, an ML model may be trained to identify patterns or relationships in data corresponding to a network, a device, an air interface, or the like. An ML model may support operational decisions relating to one or more aspects associated with wireless communications devices, networks, or services. For example, an ML model may be utilized for supporting or improving aspects such as signal coding / decoding, network routing, energy conservation, transceiver circuitry controls, frequency synchronization, timing synchronization channel state estimation, channel equalization, channel state feedback, modulation, demodulation, device positioning, beamforming, load balancing, operations and management functions, security, etc.

[0120] ML models may be characterized in terms of types of learning that generate specific types of learned models that perform specific types of tasks. For example, different types of machine learning include supervised learning, unsupervised learning, semi-supervised learning, reinforcement learning, etc. ML models may be used to perform different tasks such as classification or regression, where classification refers to determining one or more discrete output values from a set of predefined output values, and regression refers to determining continuous values which are not bounded by predefined output values. Some example ML models configured for performing such tasks include ANNs such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs) , transformers, diffusion models, regression analysis models (such as statistical models) , large language models (LLMs) , decision tree learning (such as predictive models) , support vector networks (SVMs) , and probabilistic graphical models (such as a Bayesian network) , etc.

[0121] The description herein illustrates, by way of some examples, how one or more tasks or problems in wireless communications may benefit from the application of one or more ML models to predict measurements (e.g., predict channel characteristics, such as predicted RSRP / RSRQ measurements, predicted SNR / SINR measurements, predicted CQI, etc. ) . To facilitate the discussion, an ML model configured using an ANN is used, but it should be understood, that other types of ML models may be used instead of an ANN. Hence, unless expressly recited, subject matter regarding an ML model is not necessarily intended to be limited to an ANN solution. Further, it should be understood that, unless otherwise specifically stated, terms such “AI / ML model, ” “ML model, ” “trained ML model, ” “ANN, ” “model, ” “algorithm, ” or the like are intended to be interchangeable.

[0122] In example aspects, an ML model may be trained prior to, or at some point following, operation of the ML model on input data. When training the ML model, information in the form of applicable training data may be gathered or otherwise created for use in training an ANN accordingly. For example, training data may be gathered or otherwise created regarding information associated with received / transmitted signal strengths, interference, and resource usage data, as well as any other relevant data that might be useful for training a model to address one or more problems or issues in a communication system. In certain instances, all or part of the training data may originate in a UE 115 or other device in a wireless communication system, or one or more network entities, or aggregated from multiple sources (such as a UE 115 and a network entity / entities 105, one or more other UEs 115, the Internet, or the like) . For example, wireless network architectures, such as self-organizing networks (SONs) or mobile drive test (MDT) networks, may be adapted to support collection of data for ML model applications. In another example, training data may be generated or collected online, offline, or both online and offline by a UE, network entity, or other device (s) , and all or part of such training data may be transferred or shared (in real or near-real time) , such as through store and forward functions or the like.

[0123] Once an ANN has been configured by setting parameters, including weights and biases, from training data, the ANN’s performance may be evaluated. In some scenarios, evaluation / verification tests may use a validation dataset, which may include data not in the training data, to compare the model’s performance to baseline or other benchmark information. The ANN configuration may be further refined, for example, by changing the ANN configuration architecture, re-training the ANN configuration on the data, or using different optimization techniques, etc.

[0124] In some implementations, one or more devices or services may support processes relating to a ML model’s usage, maintenance, activation, reporting, or the like. In certain instances, all or part of a dataset or model may be shared across multiple devices, to provide or otherwise augment or improve processing. In some examples, signaling mechanisms may be utilized at various nodes of wireless network to signal the capabilities for performing specific functions related to ML model, support for specific ML models, capabilities for gathering, creating, transmitting training data, or other ML related capabilities. ML models in wireless communication systems may, for example, be employed to support decisions or improve performance relating to wireless resource allocation or selection, wireless channel condition estimation, interference mitigation, beam management, positioning accuracy, energy savings, modulation or coding schemes, etc. In some implementations, model deployment may occur jointly or separately at various network levels, such as, a UE, a network entity such as a base station, or a disaggregated network entity such as a CU 160, a DU 165, a RU 170, or the like.

[0125] The various devices of the wireless communications system 100 may support various signaling mechanisms for configuring UEs 115 with CMRs, prediction target occasions (e.g., CPTs) , and “performance monitoring resources” that may be used to evaluate the performance of ML models used to perform beam management. In particular, a UE 115 of the wireless communications system 100 may perform measurements on configured “performance monitoring resources, ” where the measurements may be compared to predictions made for the CPTs in order to monitor / evaluate the performance of the ML model used to make the predictions for the CPTs. In some cases, the performance monitoring resources may be the same as the CPTs, or may be different from the CPTs. For example, in some cases, the performance monitoring resources may include a subset of the CPTs. In some implementations, the CMRs, CPTs, and performance monitoring resources may be configured via the same CSI reporting configuration or setting (e.g., via a single CSI-ReportConfig, or single CSI reporting setting) .

[0126] Techniques described herein may enable UEs 115 to be configured with performance monitoring resources that may be used to receive reference signals that are used to evaluate / monitor the performance of ML models used to make beam management predictions. Accordingly, aspects of the present disclosure may be used to monitor and improve the accuracy and precision of ML / AI models that are used to make beam management predictions, which may thereby improve the efficiency and reliability of wireless communications. Further, by improving the efficiency / reliability of wireless communications, aspects of the present disclosure may reduce the quantity of retransmissions performed within the network, thereby reducing control signaling overhead, network congestion, and leading to reduced power consumption and improved battery performance.

[0127] FIG. 2 shows an example of a wireless communications system 200 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the wireless communications system 200 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100.

[0128] The wireless communications system 200 may include a network entity 105-a and a UE 115-a, which may be examples of wireless devices as described herein. In some aspects, the network entity 105-a and the UE 115-a may communicate with one another using a communication link 205, which may be an example of an NR or LTE link, sidelink (e.g., PC5 link) , and the like, between the respective devices. In some cases, the communication link 205 may include an example of an access link (e.g., Uu link) which may include a bi-directional link that enables both uplink and downlink communication. For example, the UE 115-a may transmit uplink signals, such as uplink control signals or uplink data signals, to one or more components of the network entity 105-a using the communication link 205, and one or more components of the network entity 105-a may transmit downlink signals, such as downlink control signals or downlink data signals, to the UE 115-a using the communication link 205.

[0129] As noted previously herein, in some wireless communications systems, the network entity 105-a and the UE 115-a may use ML and / or AI models 201 for beam management to perform predictions 225 regarding the quality / performance of beams and other resources (e.g., predicted channel characteristics, such as predicted RSRP / RSRQ measurements, predicted SNR / SINR measurements, predicted CQI measurements, etc. ) . Predictions 225 may be made for resources in the future (e.g., temporal predictions) , and / or for other spatial resources (e.g., first measurements for a first set of spatial beams used to predict performance of second set of spatial beams) . To enable the UE 115-a to use such models 201, the network entity 105-a may configure the UE 115-a with CMRs 215 (e.g., “Set B beams” ) and prediction target occasions (e.g., CPTs 230, “Set A beams” ) , where the UE 115-a is configured to perform measurements 220 on reference signals received via the CMRs 215 (e.g., Set B beams” ) to make predictions 225 regarding the CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) .

[0130] For the purposes of the present disclosure, the terms CMRs 215 and “Set B beams” may be used interchangeably to refer to time / frequency resources and / or beams (e.g., spatial resources) that are measured for inputting into a model 201 to make predictions 225. Similarly, for the purposes of the present disclosure, the terms “prediction target occasions, ” “CPT 230 occasions, ” CPTs 230, ” “Set A beams, ” and like terms, may be used interchangeably to refer to occasions / instances and / or resources (e.g., time resources, frequency resources, spatial resources) for which predictions 225 are made. That is, the model 201 may be used to make channel performance predictions 225 for communications that may be transmitted / received by the UE 115-a via a set of time / frequency resources and via a set of beams / spatial resources (e.g., Set A beams) , where the time / frequency / spatial resources for which the predictions 225 are made may collectively be referred to as “prediction target occasions” and / or “CPTs 230. ”

[0131] Some frameworks, signaling, and other parameters may be defined for an artificial intelligence (AI) or ML air interface (AI / ML interface) . The AI / ML general framework for one-sided AI / ML models may include several aspects. This may include signaling and protocol aspects of Life Cycle Management (LCM) , which may enable functionality and model selection, activation, deactivation, switching, and fallback, as appropriate. This may include identification related signaling, The AI / ML general framework may also include signaling or other mechanisms for LCM to facilitate model 201 training, inference, performance monitoring, and data collection (except for the purpose of core network (CN) , operations, administration, and management (OAM) , and over-the-top (OTT) collection of UE-sided model training data) for both UE-sided and network-sided models 201. The AI / ML general framework may also include a signaling mechanism of applicable functionalities or models 201. These models 201 may be leveraged for beam management and prediction (e.g., to make predictions 225 for CPTs 230 / Set A beams) .

[0132] Beam management for downlink transmission beam predictions 225 for both a UE-sided model 201 and a network-sided model 201 may be related to several aspects. These aspects may include a spatial-domain downlink transmission beam prediction for a Set A of beams (e.g., performance target occasions, CPTs 230) based on measurements 220 of a Set B of beams / CMRs 215 ( “BM-Case1” ) . The aspects may also include temporal downlink transmission beam prediction for the Set A of beams based on historic measurements 220 of the Set B of beams ( “BM-Case2” ) . Beam management may specify necessary signaling or other mechanisms to facilitate LCM operations specific to the beam management use cases, if any. Beam management may enable methods to ensure consistency between training and inference regarding NW-side additional conditions (if identified) for inference at the UE 115-a.

[0133] There may be a common framework design to support both the BM-Case1 and the BM-Case2. Example beam management configurations for BM-Case1 and BM-Case2 are further shown and described with reference to FIGs. 4–8.

[0134] Positioning accuracy enhancements may include direct AI / ML positioning or AI / ML assisted positioning. Direct AI / ML positioning may be used in several situations, including a UE-based positioning with UE-side model 201, UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with LMF-side model 201, and NG-RAN node assisted positioning with LMF-side model 201. AI / ML assisted positioning may be used in UE-assisted / LMF-based positioning with UE-side model and NG-RAN node assisted positioning with gNB-side model. The positioning accuracy enhancements may further include specify measurements, signaling, or mechanisms to facilitate LCM operations specific to the Positioning accuracy enhancements use cases, if any. The positioning accuracy enhancements may further include determining and specifying signaling of some measurement enhancements, if any. The positioning accuracy enhancements may further enable methods to ensure consistency between training and inference regarding NW-side additional conditions (e.g., if identified) for inference at the UE for any relevant positioning sub use cases.

[0135] An example may prove to be illustrative. Referring to FIG. 2, the UE 115-amay be configured with one or more CSI reporting configurations 210. The one or more CSI reporting configurations 210 may include or otherwise indicate the CMRs 215 (e.g., Set B) , the channel prediction targets (e.g., CPTs 230, Set A) , and a set of performance monitoring resources 235. In such cases, the UE 115-a may perform measurements 220 on reference signals 255 received within the set of CMRs 215 (e.g., measurements of Set B) . The measurements 220 may be input into a model 201 (e.g., AI / ML model 201) , where the model 201 is used to make predictions 225 (e.g., predictions regarding channel / beam performance or quality, such as predicted RSRP, RSRQ, SNR, SINR, CQI, etc. ) for the set of CPTs 230 (e.g., predictions for Set A) .

[0136] In some cases, in order to monitor / evaluate the performance / accuracy of the predictions 225 / model 201, the UE 115-a may additionally perform measurements 240 on reference signals 255 received within the set of performance monitoring resources 235. As shown in FIG. 2, the set of performance monitoring resources 235 may be included within (e.g., may include a subset of) the channel prediction targets / CPTs 230. In other cases, the performance monitoring resources 235 may be separate from (e.g., not included within) the set of CPTs 230. In this regard, the set of prediction target occasions / CPTs 230 may be configured as “transmitted” or “non-transmitted” occasions based on whether or not the performance monitoring resources 235 are configured within the CPTs 230 for reference signal 255 monitoring.

[0137] Continuing with the same example, the UE 115-a may transmit one or more CSI reports 245 to the network entity 105-a, where the CSI reports 245 are based on the measurements 220 performed for the set of CMRs 215, the predictions 225, and / or the measurements 240 performed for the set of performance monitoring resources 235. In such cases, the UE 115-a (and / or the network entity 105-b) may be configured to compare the predictions 225 output from the model with the measurements 240 made for the set of performance monitoring resources 235, where the comparison may be used to perform a model analysis 250 of the model 201. Stated differently, the devices may compare the measurements 240 with the predictions 225 to evaluate the accuracy / reliability of the predictions 225 and / or model 201.

[0138] The model analysis 250 for evaluating the accuracy / reliability of the predictions 225 / model 201 may be used to refine the model 201, switch to a new model 201, and the like. Example mechanisms for performing the model analysis 250 are further shown and described with reference to FIG. 3.

[0139] There are several mechanisms or configurations that may be used to configure the CMRs 215 (e.g., Set B) and the channel prediction targets (e.g., CPTs 230, Set A) . For a UE-sided model 201 at least for BM Case-1, a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) is used for the configuration of inference results reporting (e.g., reporting the measurements 240 for performance monitoring) . For example, in some cases, one CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., one single CSI-ResourceConfigId) is configured for both Set A and Set B. That is, a single CSI reporting configuration 210 may be used to configure both the CMRs 215 and the CPTs 230. In other cases, two separate CSI reporting configurations 210 (e.g., two separate CSI-ResourceConfigIds) may be configured for Set A and Set B separately. That is, a first CSI reporting configuration 210 may be used to configure the CMRs 215, and a second CSI reporting configuration 210 may be used to configure the CPTs 230.

[0140] However, conventional techniques for using ML models 201 for beam management do not provide mechanisms for configuring the performance monitoring resources 235, and therefore do not provide mechanisms that enable the performance of the models 201 to be easily monitored or evaluated. In other words, there is a need for mechanisms to configure the performance monitoring resources 235 to enable the UE 115-a and the network entity 105-a to perform subsequent measurements that may be used to monitor or otherwise evaluate the performance of the ML models 201 making the predictions 225 so that the models 201 may be updated and refined.

[0141] Accordingly, aspects of the present disclosure are directed to various signaling mechanisms for configuring UEs 115 with CMRs 215, CPTs 230 (e.g., prediction target occasions) , and performance monitoring resources 235 that may be used to evaluate the performance of ML models 201 used to perform beam management.

[0142] In accordance with a first implementation, which may be referred to as “Proposal #1, ” the CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235 may be configured via the same CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., via a single CSI-ReportConfig) and / or same CSI reporting setting. That is, monitoring RSs may be configured also by a CSI-ReportConfig (and / or CSI reporting setting) that configures Set A and Set B beams and schedules beam prediction reports. Examples of Proposal #1 that use a single CSI reporting configuration 210 (and / or single CSI reporting setting) to configure the CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235, as well as impacts to identification of connections between Set A beams and monitoring RSs, and CPU occupation rules and impacts to priority rules, are shown and described via the beam management configurations 900-1200 in FIGs. 9–12.

[0143] In other cases (e.g., “Proposal #2” ) , the performance monitoring resources 235 may be configured via a different CSI reporting configuration 210 and / or different CSI reporting setting (e.g., first CSI-ReportConfig used to configure CMRs 215 and CPTs 230, and second CSI-ReportConfig used to configure performance monitoring resources 235) . That is, monitoring RSs may be configured by a second CSI-ReportConfig (and / or second CSI reporting setting) different from the first CSI-ReportConfig or first CSI reporting setting that configures Set A / B beams and schedules beam prediction reports. Examples of Proposal #2 that use separate CSI reporting configurations 210 to configure the CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235, as well as impacts to linkage between the CSI-ReportConfigs (e.g., between CSI reporting settings) , identification of connections between Set A beams and monitoring RSs, and impacts to priority rules are shown and described via the beam management configuration 1600 in FIG. 16.

[0144] In some examples, the UE 115-a may be associated with one or more capabilities related to processing CSI calculations (e.g., calculations based on measurements of reference signals 255) . For example, the network entity 105-a may configure the UE 115-a with a parameter (e.g., SimultaneousCIS-ReportsPerCC, NCPU) indicating a quantity of supported simultaneous CSI calculations (e.g., a quantity of CSI processing units available for use by the UE) per each component carrier, and / or a parameter (SimultaneousCSI-ReportsAllCC, NCPU) indicating a total quantity of supported simultaneous CSI calculations (e.g., a quantity of CSI processing units available for use by the UE) across all component carriers. That is, if the UE 115-a uses a quantity L of CSI processing units available at the UE 115-a in a given OFDM symbol, a quantity NCPU - L CSI processing units of the UE 115-a may be unoccupied. The UE 115-a may refrain from updating a quantity of N-M CSI reports (e.g., CSI reports with a lowest priority) , where N CSI reports may occupy the CSI processing units of the UE 115-a on a same OFDM symbol on which the NCPU - L CSI processing units of the UE 115-a are unoccupied. Each CSI report may be associated with n = 0. N may occupy CSI processing units, and 0≤M≤N may be a largest value such that a relationship

[0145] In some examples, a quantity of specific occupied CSI processing units of the UE 115-a (e.g., OCPU) may be OCPU=0 (e.g., if reportQuantity of a corresponding CSI report setting is set to none while the CSI Resource Set associated with the CSI report setting is configured with parameter trs-Info) , OCPU=1 (e.g., if reportQuantity of the corresponding CSI report setting is set to cri-RSRP or ssb-Index-RSRP or cri-SINR or ssb-Index-SINR, or none while the CSI Resource Set associated with the CSI report setting is not configured with trs-Info) , or OCPU=Ks (e.g., if reportQuantity of the corresponding CSI report setting is set to cri-RI-PMI-CQI or cri-RI-i1 or cri-RI-i1-CQI or cri-RI-CQI or cri-RI-LI-PMI-CQI, where Ks is a quantity of CSI-RS resources in the associated CMR Set) .

[0146] As described herein, a CSI processing unit of the UE 115-a may be occupied from a first symbol until a last symbol of a PUSCH or PUCCH message carrying the CSI report. For periodic or semi-persistent CSI reports, the first symbol may be a first symbol of the earliest one of each CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB resource associated with a CSI-ReportConfig, on the latest CSI-RS / CSI-IM / SSB occasion no later than the corresponding CSI reference resource. For periodic CSI reports or an initial semi-persistent CSI report on a PUSCH triggered by DCI, the first symbol may be a first symbol after the PDCCH triggering the CSI report. For some other semi-persistent CSI reports, the first symbol may be a first symbol of Kp-th latest consecutive P / SP CSI-RS occasions no later than CSI reference resource, where the value of Kp∈ {1, 2, 4} may be indicated by UE capability.

[0147] In some examples, CSI reports 245 may be associated with one or more priority rules. For example, a priority of a CSI report may be defined as PriiCSI (y, k, c, s) =2NCells Msy+Ncells Msk+Msc+s, where y= {0, 1, 2, 3} for {aperiodic (AP) reporting via PUSCH, semi-persistent (SP) reporting via PUSCH, SP reporting via PUCCH, periodic (P) reporting via PUCCH} CSI reports, k=0 for CSI reports carrying L1-RSRP or L1-SINR and k=1 for CSI reports not carrying L1-RSRP or L1-SINR, c is a ServCell ID and Ncells is the value of the RRC parameter maxNrofServingCells, and s is the reportConfigID associated with the CSI report setting and Ms is the RRC parameter maxNrofCSI-ReportConfigurations. In some examples, one or more omission rules (e.g., intra-CSI omission rules) may be used by the UE 115-a to determine which CSI reports and / or which components of a CSI report may be dropped or omitted (e.g., due to a PUSCH or PUCCH payload size threshold) and / or which CSI report the UE 115-a may stop from updating (e.g., due to overbooking) . In some examples, the omission rules may apply for one or more sub-groups of a 2-part CSI multiplexed on PUSCH or PUCCH (e.g., provided the PUSCH or PUCCH payload may not compromise the 2-part CSI.

[0148] FIG. 3 shows an example of a performance monitoring configuration 300 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the performance monitoring configuration 300 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, or both.

[0149] The performance monitoring configuration 300 in FIG. 3 illustrates example process flows 305 for performing the model analysis 250 shown and described in FIG. 2. As described previously herein, the network may configure the UE 115 with a set of CPTs 230 (e.g., prediction target occasions) for which a model 201 is to be used to make predictions. The UE 115 may be further configured with a set of performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring reference signals) . As shown in FIG. 3, in some cases, the performance monitoring resources 235 may correspond to sparsely selective prediction occasions from the CPTs 230. In other words, a subset of the CPTs 230 may correspond to the performance monitoring resources 235.

[0150] As described previously herein, the UE 115 may be configured to perform measurements 220 on reference signals 255 received within a set of CMRs 215, and use the measurements 220 to make predictions 225 for the set of CPTs 230. Subsequently, the UE 115 may perform measurements 240 on reference signals 255 received within the set of performance monitoring resources 235. The measurements 240 performed for the set of performance monitoring resources 235 may be compared with the predictions 225 in order to evaluate / monitor the performance of the model 201.

[0151] In accordance with a Type 1 model analysis 250, the network may be configured to monitor / evaluate the performance of the model 201 and make LCM decisions, as shown in the first process flow 305-a and the second process flow 305-b. Type 1 model analysis may include network-side performance monitoring (first process flow 305-a) , and / or UE-assisted performance monitoring (second process flow 305-b) .

[0152] For example, as shown in the first process flow 305-a for network-side performance monitoring, the UE 115 may report the measurement results of the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., report measurements 240) to the network, where the network is configured to evaluate performance of the AI / ML model 201, and provide an AI / ML LCM command to the UE 115 (e.g., to activate / deactivate the model 201, switch to a different model 201, etc. ) . Comparatively, as shown in the second process flow 305-b for UE-assisted performance monitoring, the network may transmit methods, parameters, or other conditions usable by the UE 115 to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) or other events / characteristics associated with the model 201. The UE 115 may use this information from the network to evaluate the measurements 240 performed on reference signals received within the performance monitoring resources 235 and identify KPIs / events. The UE 115 may then report such KPIs / events (and / or report the measurements 240) to the network, where the network is configured to evaluate performance of the AI / ML model 201, and provide an AI / ML LCM command to the UE 115 (e.g., to activate / deactivate the model 201, switch to a different model 201, etc. ) .

[0153] In accordance with a Type 2 model analysis 250, the UE 115 may be configured to monitor / evaluate the performance of the model 201 and make LCM decisions, as shown in the third process flow 305-c for UE-side performance monitoring. As shown in the third process flow 305-c for UE-side performance monitoring, the network may transmit information associated with the AI / ML model 201 to the UE 115 for performing LCM. The information may include methods, parameters, or other conditions usable by the UE 115 to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) or other events / characteristics associated with the model 201. The UE 115 may use this information from the network to evaluate the measurements 240 performed on reference signals received within the performance monitoring resources 235 and identify KPIs / events. The UE 115 may then evaluate performance of the AI / ML model 201, and transmit information to the network with respect to UE-executed LCM operations implemented by the UE 115 (e.g., information to activate / deactivate the model 201, switch to a different model 201, etc. ) .

[0154] FIGs. 4–16 illustrate different signaling mechanisms (e.g., different beam management configurations) that may be used to configure UEs 115 with the CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235 that are to be used for predicting channel characteristics using models 201, and for evaluating / monitoring the performance of the predictions / models 201.

[0155] FIG. 4 shows an example of a beam management configuration 400 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 400 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, or any combination thereof.

[0156] In some examples of wireless communications systems, as described with reference to FIG. 2, a UE 115 may receive a configuration message (e.g., an RRC configuration) from a network entity 105 indicating a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a first information element (IE) such as CSI-ReportConfig or CSI-ReportConfigId) . In some examples, as illustrated with reference to FIG. 4, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may indicate both CMRs 215 and CPTs 230 (e.g., via a single CSI-ResourceConfig IE) .

[0157] In some examples, the UE 115 may use the CSI reporting configuration 210 for pure temporal beam prediction (e.g., BM-Case2. For example, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may indicate a first quantity of resources (e.g., via a parameter CSI-SSB-Resource or a parameter NZP-CSI-RS-Resource) that are configured for the UE 115 as CMRs 215. In such examples, Set A beams may be a same set of beams as Set B beams (e.g., with a same spatial configuration but associated with occasions that are later in time) . For example, a quantity of reported resources associated with the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig or CSI-ReportConfigID) may be with respect to channel characteristics predicted using such CMRs 215 towards temporal occasion (s) (e.g., CPTs 230) later than the slot carrying a CSI report and / or later than the slot with respect to a CSI reference resource of the CSI report.

[0158] In some examples, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfig) may incorporate such CMRs 215 as one or multiple SSB / CSI-RS resource sets. In such examples, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig or CSI-ReportConfigID) may refer to a parameter CSI-ResourceConfigId of the CSI-ResourceConfig IE when configuring CMRs 215.

[0159] In some examples, the parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding CSI reference resources that are no later than a slot carrying the CSI report, or regarding temporal occasion (s) that are later than a slot carrying the CSI report or later than the CSI reference resource.

[0160] FIG. 5 shows an example of a beam management configuration 500 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 500 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configuration 400, or any combination thereof.

[0161] In some examples of wireless communications systems, as described with reference to FIG. 2, a UE 115 may receive a configuration message (e.g., an RRC configuration) from a network entity 105 indicating a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a first IE such as CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, as illustrated with reference to FIG. 5, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may indicate both CMRs 215 (e.g., a first quantity of CMRs 215) and CPTs 230 (e.g., a second quantity of CPTs 230) via a single CSI-ResourceConfig IE.

[0162] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a wide-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1A) in which Set A beams are not the same as Set B beams. In such examples, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may indicate the first quantity of CMRs 215 (e.g., the Set B beams) , and a parameter (e.g., reportQuantity) of the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., an IE CSI-ReportConfig) may not be associated with the CMRs 215. That is, the UE 115 may receive an indication of the second quantity of CPTs 230 (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-Resources that are different from the resources configured as CMRs 215 or PredictionTargets that are non-transmitted) . The CPTs 230 may be configured as Set A beams associated with the CSI-ReportConfig, such that the parameter (e.g., reportQuantity) of the CSI reporting configuration (e.g., the IE CSI-ReportConfig) is with respect to channel characteristics predicted for the CPTs 230. In some examples (e.g., for NZP-CSI-RS-Resource’s configured as CPTs 230) , such prediction may be with respect to occasions in which the NZP-CSI-RS-Resources are not transmitted.

[0163] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a narrow-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1B) . In such examples, the Set B beams may be a subset of the Set A beams. In some examples, for a temporal fixed Set B beam pattern (e.g., BM-Case1B. 1) , the UE 115 may receive a same configuration as for the wide-to-narrow configuration (e.g., from BM-Case1A) in which non-transmitted PredictionTargets are configured as CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) .

[0164] In some examples, the parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding CSI reference resources that are no later than a slot carrying the CSI report, or regarding temporal occasion (s) that are later than a slot carrying the CSI report or later than the CSI reference resource.

[0165] FIG. 6 shows an example of a beam management configuration 600 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 600 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-500, or any combination thereof.

[0166] In some examples of wireless communications systems, as described with reference to FIG. 2, a UE 115 may receive a configuration message (e.g., an RRC configuration) from a network entity 105 indicating a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a first IE such as CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, as illustrated with reference to FIG. 6, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may separately indicate both CMRs 215 (e.g., a first quantity of CMRs 215) and CPTs 230 (e.g., a second quantity of CPTs 230) . That is, the Set A beams and the B beams may be configured via separate IEs (e.g., separate CSI-ResourceConfigs) .

[0167] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a wide-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1A) in which Set A beams are not the same as Set B beams.

[0168] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a narrow-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1B) .

[0169] In some examples, the parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding CSI reference resources that are no later than a slot carrying the CSI report, or regarding temporal occasion (s) that are later than a slot carrying the CSI report or later than the CSI reference resource.

[0170] FIG. 7 shows an example of a beam management configuration 700 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 700 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-600, or any combination thereof.

[0171] In some examples of wireless communications systems, as described with reference to FIG. 2, a UE 115 may receive a configuration message (e.g., an RRC configuration) from a network entity 105 indicating a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a first IE such as CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, as illustrated with reference to FIG. 7, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may separately indicate both CMRs 215 (e.g., a first quantity of CMRs 215) and CPTs 230 (e.g., a second quantity of CPTs 230) . That is, the Set A beams and the B beams may be configured via separate IEs (e.g., channelPredictionTargets and CSI-ResourceConfigs, respectively) .

[0172] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a wide-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1A) in which Set A beams are not the same as Set B beams.

[0173] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a narrow-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1B) .

[0174] In some examples, the parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding CSI reference resources that are no later than a slot carrying the CSI report, or regarding temporal occasion (s) that are later than a slot carrying the CSI report or later than the CSI reference resource.

[0175] FIG. 8 shows an example of a beam management configuration 800 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 800 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-700, or any combination thereof.

[0176] In some examples of wireless communications systems, as described with reference to FIG. 2, a UE 115 may receive a configuration message (e.g., an RRC configuration) from a network entity 105 indicating a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a first IE such as CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, as illustrated with reference to FIG. 8, the CSI reporting configuration 210 may indicate both CMRs 215 and CPTs 230 (e.g., via a single CSI-ResourceConfig IE) .

[0177] In some examples, for a spatial prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1) , the UE 115 may be configured with a narrow-to-narrow prediction configuration (e.g., BM-Case1B) . In such examples, for a temporal variable Set B beam pattern or a temporal fixed Set B beam pattern in which full Set A beams are transmitted sparsely in the time-domain (e.g., BM-Case1B. 2) , the UE 115 may use a configuration similar to that of BM-Case2. In such examples, however, a parameter reportQuantity of the CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding predicted channel characteristics on some CMRs 215 for occasions where such CMRs 215 are non-transmitted. That is, on occasions in which CMRs 215 are not transmitted, such CMRs 215 may be considered as CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) . The UE 115 may accordingly estimate L1 reference signal received power (RSRP) for occasions in which CMRs 215 are non-transmitted.

[0178] In some examples, the parameter reportQuantity of the IE CSI-ReportConfig may be regarding CSI reference resources that are no later than a slot carrying the CSI report, or regarding temporal occasion (s) that are later than a slot carrying the CSI report or later than the CSI reference resource.

[0179] FIG. 9 shows an example of a beam management configuration 900-a and a beam management configuration 900-b that support techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configurations 900 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-800, or any combination thereof.

[0180] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) and that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) . That is, as described with reference to FIG. 17, the performance monitoring resources 235 may be configured at the UE 115 (e.g., using an RRC configured framework) via a same CSI reporting configuration 210 that configures the UE 115 with the CMRs 215 (e.g., Proposal #1) . That is, the UE 115 may use measurements of the CMRs 215 to predict measurements (e.g., predict RSRPs via a ML or AI model) associated with one or more CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) , and the UE 115 or a network entity 105 may use measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235 to monitor a quality of the measurements (e.g., a quality of the ML or AI model) .

[0181] In some examples, the UE 115 may identify one or more inter-or intra-CSI priorities for one or more monitoring reference signals associated with the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., for CSI-ReportConfigs that are associated with monitoring RSs) . For example, if a CSI report scheduled by the CSI reporting configuration 210 carries monitoring results with respect to one or more monitoring RSs (e.g., the performance monitoring resources 235) together with prediction results of the CPTs 230, an inter-CSI priority of the CSI report should be the same as one or more other CSI report (s) (e.g., reports carrying the same type of beam prediction results on CPTs 230) . Additionally, or alternatively, if a CSI report scheduled by the CSI reporting configuration 210 carries monitoring results with respect to the monitoring RSs in selective reporting occasions, an inter-CSI priority of the CSI report should be the same as one or more other CSI report occasions with respect to the same CSI-ReportConfig that does not carry the monitoring results. For inter-CSI priority, the described priority rules may be further conditioned on whether a reporting type (e.g., aperiodic (AP) reporting via PUSCH, semi-persistent (SP) reporting via PUSCH, SP reporting via PUCCH, periodic (P) reporting via PUCCH) , a serving cell identifier (e.g., ServCell-ID) , and a CSI report configuration identifier (e.g. CSI-ReportConfigId) are identical for the involved CSI reports.

[0182] In some examples, for intra-CSI Priority Rules (e.g., conditioned on whether a CSI payload size of the CSI report is variable and monitoring results are carried in a CSI Part-2) , a priority of the monitoring results may be lower than a priority of prediction results of the CPTs 230 (e.g., if the monitoring results and the prediction results are both carried in CSI Part-2) .

[0183] In some aspects, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 900-a (e.g., Method 1.1) , the UE 115 may identify the performance monitoring resources 235 based on whether each future occasion to be predicted (e.g., each CPT 230) is also scheduled with a same quantity n of CMRs 215 as the occasions to be measured. For example, if each future occasion to be predicted is also scheduled with a same quantity n of CMRs 215, the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) may be the quantity n of CMRs 215 (e.g., as considered in BM-Case2’s Set A and Set B beam configurations, as described with reference to FIG. 4) .

[0184] For example, when such conditions are met (e.g., if each future occasion to be predicted is also scheduled with a same quantity n of CMRs 215) , the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) may implicitly (e.g., and not explicitly) configure the monitoring RSs. In such examples, the UE 115 may identify that the monitoring RSs are the same as the n CMRs 215.

[0185] In some examples, regardless of whether such conditions are met (e.g., regardless of whether each future occasion to be predicted is also scheduled with a same quantity n of CMRs 215) , the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) that may point to an ID for resources associated with performance monitoring (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfigId) . For example, a network entity 105 may explicitly configure the performance monitoring resources 235 by pointing to a same CSI-ResourceConfigId whose associated CSI-ResourceConfig configures the n CMRs 215.

[0186] In some aspects, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 900-b (e.g., Method 1.2) , if the conditions are not met (e.g., if each future occasion to be predicted is not scheduled with a same quantity n of CMRs 215) , the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) that may point to a different CSI-ResourceConfigId. For example, a network entity 105 may explicitly configure the performance monitoring resources 235 by pointing to a CSI-ResourceConfigId that is different from the one referred by the n CMRs 215. The CSI-ResourceConfigId may be associated with a CSI-ResourceConfig that may configure a quantity of non-zero power (NZP) -CSI-RS resources scheduled at one or more of the occasions to be predicted.

[0187] FIG. 10 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1000 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 1000 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-900, or any combination thereof.

[0188] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) and that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) .

[0189] In some examples, the UE 115 may be configured with the performance monitoring resources 235 based on a condition. For example, the condition may be whether CPTs 230 are configured as transmitted CSI-RS resources. In some examples, when such conditions are met, a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., a 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may not explicitly configure monitoring RSs. The UE 115 may accordingly identify (e.g., implicitly) that the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) may be the same as CSI-RSs configured as CPTs 230. For example, the UE 115 may not receive an explicit parameter resourcesForPerformanceMonitoring indicating the performance monitoring resources 235.

[0190] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to a configuration 1005-a, a configuration 1005-b, and a configuration 1005-c, regardless of whether the conditions are met (e.g., regardless of whether CPTs 230 are configured as transmitted CSI-RS resources) , the UE 115 may receive an explicit configuration indicating the performance monitoring resources 235. As described herein, the configuration 1005-aand the configuration 1005-b may correspond to examples in which the CMRs 215 and the CPTs 230 are configured via a same CSI resource configuration (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIGs. 4, 5, and 8) , and the configuration 1005-c may correspond to an example in which the CMRs 215 and the CPTs 230 are configured via a separate CSI resource configurations (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIG. 6) .

[0191] For example, as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1005-a, an IE (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfig) associated with the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., associated with the 1st CSI-ReportConfig that configures both the CMRs 215 or Set B beams and the CPTs 230 or Set A beams) may include an additional sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) . The sub-feature may point to one or more NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId. For example, a network entity 105 may configure the UE 115 with a same resource ID (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) for the performance monitoring resources 235 as a resource ID configured by an IE configuring the CMRs 215 and CPTs 230 (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfig) whose associated NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet configures the CPTs 230.

[0192] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1005-b, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) that may point to a resource ID (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) .

[0193] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1005-c, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) , that may point to a resource ID (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) . For example, a network entity 105 may configure the UE 115 with a same resource ID (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfigId) for the performance monitoring resources 235 as a resource ID configured by an IE configuring the CPTs 230 (e.g., a CSI-ResourceConfig that configures the CPTs 230) .

[0194] FIG. 11 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1100 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 1100 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1000, or any combination thereof.

[0195] In some examples, the beam management configuration 1100 may illustrate an example of CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235 in examples in which CPTs 230 are configured as transmitted CSI-RS resources (e.g., as described with reference to FIG. 10) . In such examples, a UE 115 may identify that the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) are the same as CSI-RSs configured as CPTs 230. As illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1100, CPTs 230 (i.e., Set A beams) may be configured as transmitted reference signals, but may be transmitted relatively less frequently than the CMRs 215 (e.g., Set B beams) .

[0196] In examples in which the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) are the same as CSI-RSs configured as CPTs 230, the UE 115 may perform both prediction and measurements (e.g., measurements for performance monitoring) on such CPTs 230 with respect to the actually transmitted occasions.

[0197] FIG. 12 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1200 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 1200 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1100, or any combination thereof.

[0198] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) and that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) .

[0199] In some examples, the UE 115 may be configured with the performance monitoring resources 235 based on a condition. For example, the condition may be whether CPTs 230 are configured as non-transmitted prediction targets. As described herein, a configuration 1205-a and a configuration 1205-b may correspond to examples in which the CMRs 215 and the CPTs 230 are configured via a same CSI resource configuration (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIGs. 4, 5, and 8) , and a configuration 1205-c may correspond to an example in which the CMRs 215 and the CPTs 230 are configured via a separate CSI resource configurations (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIG. 6) .

[0200] In some examples, which such conditions are met (e.g., if the CPTs 230 are configured as non-transmitted prediction targets) , as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1205-a, a CSI resource configuration (e.g., a CSI-ResourceConfig) associated with the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig that configures both the CMRs 215 or Set B beams and the CPTs 230 or Set A beams) may include an additional sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) . The additional sub-feature may point to one or more resource IDs (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetIds) . For example, a network entity 105 may configure the UE 115 with performance monitoring resources 235 with a resource ID (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) that is different from a resource ID configured by a CSI resource configuration (e.g., the CSI-ResourceConfig) configuring both the CMRs 215 and CPTs 230 whose associated NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet configures the CMRs 215.

[0201] Additionally, or alternatively, if such conditions are met, as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1205-b, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) that may point to one or more resource IDs (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) .

[0202] Additionally, or alternatively, if such conditions are met, as illustrated with reference to the configuration 1205-c, the CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may include a sub-feature (e.g., resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring) that may point to one or more resource IDs (e.g., NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSetId) . For example, a network entity 105 may configure the UE 115 with performance monitoring resources 235 with a resource ID (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfigId) with an associated parameter (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfig) that configures the CSI-RSs as monitoring RSs. In such examples, the resource ID (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfigId) indicated by resourcesForPeformanceMonitoring may be different from a resource ID pointed by a resource configuration (e.g., CSI-ResourceConfig) whose associated NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet configures the CMRs 215.

[0203] FIG. 13 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1300 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 1300 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1200, or any combination thereof.

[0204] In some examples, the beam management configuration 1300 may illustrate an example of CMRs 215, CPTs 230, and performance monitoring resources 235 in examples in which CPTs 230 are configured as non-transmitted prediction targets or RSs (e.g., as described with reference to FIG. 12) . As illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1300, CPTs 230 (i.e., Set A beams) may be configured as non-transmitted reference signals. In such examples, a total quantity of the monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) may be equal to or smaller than a total quantity of CPTs 230 with respect to a monitoring occasion.

[0205] In some examples, to perform monitoring at the monitoring occasions (e.g., a monitoring RS transmission occasion) , the UE 115 may perform both prediction (e.g., prediction of the CPTs 230) and measurements (e.g., measurements for performance monitoring, such as measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235) on the non-transmitted CPTs 230 associated with the monitoring RSs.

[0206] FIG. 14 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1400-a and a beam management configuration 1400-b that support techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configurations 1400 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1300, or any combination thereof.

[0207] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) and that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) .

[0208] In some examples, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1400-a and the beam management configuration 1400-b, the UE 115 may identify one or more connections between the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) and the CPTs 230 (e.g., the Set A beams) .

[0209] In some examples, the connection between the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) and the CPTs 230 (e.g., the Set A beams) may be straightforward. For example, the UE 115 may identify that the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., the monitoring RSs) are the same as RSs configured as CPTs 230. For example, the connection may be based on whether the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., the monitoring RSs) are the same as the RSs configured as CMRs 215 (e.g., Set B beams) and / or CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) , as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 900-a and the beam management configuration 1000.

[0210] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1400-a, the UE 115 may identify an implicit connection between the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) and the CPTs 230 (e.g., the Set A beams) , such as via Resource / Target Set IDs and / or Resource / Target IDs. For example, based on a condition of whether a total quantity of monitoring RSs and a total quantity CPTs 230 (e.g., RSs or non-transmitted PredictionTargets) is the same, the UE 115 may identify a 1-to-1 mapping between the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) and the CPTs 230 (e.g., the Set A beams) .

[0211] In such examples, the UE 115 may identify CPT identifiers (IDs) with respect to the respective CPTs 230. The UE 115 may accordingly perform a 1-to-2 mapping between the CPTs 230 and the monitoring RSs based on a descending or ascending order of respective set-IDs and resource or target-entry IDs identified within respective resource sets. In some examples, if the resource or target sets of the CPTs 230 and the performance monitoring resources 235 are signaled by a list, the UE 115 may determine that the IDs are based on a respective entry-IDs within the list. The UE 115 may expect that a same pair of CPT resources and monitoring RSs (e.g., {monitoring RS, CPT} ) identified based on the 1-to-1 mapping is associated with a same spatial transmission filter. Such solutions may be applicable to configurations such as the beam management configuration 900-b and the beam management configuration 1200.

[0212] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1400-b, the UE 115 may identify an explicit connection between the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) and the CPTs 230 (e.g., the Set A beams) , such as via explicit connection signaling via CPT IDs. For example, based on a condition of whether the performance monitoring resources 235 are configured at the UE 115 via a same CSI reporting configuration 210 that configures the UE 115 with the CMRs 215 (e.g., especially when a total quantity of monitoring RSs of the performance monitoring resources 235 is smaller than a total quantity of CPTs 230 in a single monitoring occasion) , the UE 115 may determine that the CPTs 230 may be mapped to monitoring RSs based on IDs of the CPTs 230 corresponding to (e.g., being the same as) the IDs associated with the corresponding monitoring RSs.

[0213] For example, the network entity 105 may signal, for each monitoring RS, an ID of a corresponding CPT 230. In some examples, if CPTs 230 are non-transmitted PredictionTargets (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIG. 13) , where each PredictionTarget is associated with a corresponding ID, the ID may be indicated based on indicating a respective PredictionTargetIds. Additionally, or alternatively, if CPTs 230 are also configured as transmitted RSs (e.g., as illustrated with reference to FIG. 11) , and each RS is further indicated by a PredictionTargetId, the ID may be indicated based on indicating a respective PredictionTargetIds, or based on indicating a RS set ID (e.g., if multiple RS sets are configured as CPTs 230) and a RS entry ID with respect to the RS set. In some examples, if the resource or target sets are signaled by a list, the UE 115 may determine their respective IDs based on an entry-IDs within the list. The UE 115 may expect a same pair of linked CPT resources and monitoring RSs (e.g., {monitoring RS, CPT} ) identified herein may be associated with a same spatial transmission filter.

[0214] FIG. 15 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1500 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configuration 1500 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1400, or any combination thereof.

[0215] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210 (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) and that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) .

[0216] In some examples, an occupation of CSI processing units of the UE 115 may be based on measurements of reference signals (e.g., measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235) . For example, the UE 115 may use (e.g., occupy) a larger quantity of CSI processing units for monitoring RS measurements (e.g., during a Duration 1) and monitoring results calculation (e.g., during a Duration 2) as compared to some other durations, such as when the UE 115 transmits a CSI report (e.g., Other Durations) . That is, when the UE 115 performs measurements on monitoring RSs and / or when the UE 115 calculates or identifies monitoring results, the UE 115 may have a relatively higher quantity of occupied CSI processing units for the CSI report (e.g., a CSI report configured by a 1st CSI-ReportConfig) , as compared to the other durations.

[0217] Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 115 may not increase a quantity of occupied CSI processing units while performing measurements of monitoring RS and calculating monitoring results. For example, the UE 115 may use (e.g., occupy) a same quantity of CSI processing units for monitoring RS measurements (e.g., during a Duration 1) and monitoring results calculation (e.g., during a Duration 2) as compared to some other durations, such as when the UE 115 transmits a CSI report (e.g., Other Durations, durations during which the CSI processing units of the UE 115 may be occupied with transmitting the CSI report) .

[0218] In some examples, the duration during which the UE 115 performs measurements on monitoring RSs (e.g., Duration 1) may be a duration starting from a sequentially first symbol of an earliest RS of the monitoring RSs and may last until a sequentially last symbol of a latest RS of the monitoring RSs. In such examples, the monitoring RSs that the UE 115 may measure during Duration 1 may be associated with a single temporal instance during which the UE 115 may derive predicted channel characteristics on CPTs 230.

[0219] In some examples, the duration during which the UE 115 performs calculations of the monitoring results and packages the monitoring results into uplink control information (UCIs) (e.g., Duration 2) may be a duration starting from a symbol after the last symbol of the latest RS of the monitoring RSs and may last until a last symbol of the PUCCH or PUSCH carrying the CSI report (e.g., the CSI report configured by the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, a length of Duration 2 may be based on whether the UE 115 expects to feedback monitoring results for a corresponding CSI reporting instance.

[0220] FIG. 16 shows an example of a beam management configuration 1600-a and a beam management configuration 1600-b that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the beam management configurations 1600 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1500, or any combination thereof.

[0221] In some examples, a UE 115 may receive a CSI reporting configuration 210-a (e.g., a first CSI-ReportConfig) that indicates one or more resources for channel measurement (e.g., CMRs 215, Set B beams) . The UE 115 may receive an additional CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., a second e CSI-ReportConfig) that explicitly or implicitly indicates one or more resources for performance monitoring (e.g., performance monitoring resources 235) . That is, as described with reference to FIG. 16, the performance monitoring resources 235 may be configured at the UE 115 (e.g., using an RRC configured framework) via a different CSI reporting configuration 210-b than a CSI reporting configuration 210-a that configures the UE 115 with the CMRs 215 (e.g., Proposal #2) . The UE 115 may use measurements of the CMRs 215 to predict measurements (e.g., predict RSRPs via a ML or AI model) associated with one or more CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) , and the UE 115 or a network entity 105 may use measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235 to monitor a quality of the measurements (e.g., a quality of the ML or AI model) .

[0222] In some examples, the UE 115 may expect the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., monitoring RSs) to be configured via the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) if future temporal prediction occasions (e.g., CPTs 230) are not scheduled with RSs configured as CPTs 230 (e.g., as described with reference to the beam management configuration 900-b) , or if non-transmitted PredictionTargets are configured as CPTs 230 (e.g., as described with reference to the beam management configuration 1200) .

[0223] In such examples, the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) may be relatively similar to another L1-RSRP or signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) measurement-and report-associated CSI reporting configuration (e.g., another CSI-ReportConfig) . In some examples, if UE-assisted or UE-based monitoring occurs, the CSI reporting configurations 210-a and 210-b may include one or more differences with respect to the other L1-RSRP / SINR measurement-and report-associated CSI reporting configuration.

[0224] For example, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1600-a, the CSI reporting configuration 210-b may be linked with the CSI reporting configuration 210-a. That is, the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) may indicate the CSI reporting configuration 210-a (e.g., may indicate a CSI-ReportConfigId associated with the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) , and / or the CSI reporting configuration 210-a (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig) may indicate the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., may indicate a CSI-ReportConfigId associated with the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) .

[0225] Additionally, or alternatively, as illustrated with reference to the beam management configuration 1600-b, the CPTs 230 (e.g., Set A beams) may be mapped to the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., the monitoring RSs) as described with reference to FIG. 14. In some examples, the performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., the monitoring RSs) may be identifiable via the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., and not via the CSI reporting configuration 210-a) . Any signaling or mapping described with reference to FIG. 14 may be with respect to the separate CSI reporting configurations 210 (e.g., the 1st CSI-ReportConfig and the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) .

[0226] Additionally, or alternatively, a report indicating measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235 may be event triggered. For example, a CSI report configured by the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) may be event-triggered reported, and the UE 115 may use a scheduling request (SR) or medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) to request an applicable uplink grant (e.g., a grant for uplink resources over which the UE 115 may transmit the CSI report) . In some examples, a parameter reportQuantity of the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., the 2nd CSI-ReportConfig) may be set to none (e.g., if the UE 115 expects to use MAC-CE or RRC to report the monitoring results) .

[0227] In some examples, the UE 115 may occupy one or more CSI processing units of the UE 115 based on CSI processing unit occupation rules, as described herein with reference to FIGs. 2 and 15. For example, such CSI processing unit occupation rules may be the same as CSI processing unit occupation rules defined for other L1-RSRP reports and / or for examples in which reportQuantity=none.

[0228] In some examples, the UE 115 may identify one or more inter-or intra-CSI priorities for the CSI reporting configuration 210-b (e.g., for CSI-ReportConfigs associated with performance monitoring resources 235 such as monitoring RSs) . For example, the UE 115 may use one or more CSI priority rules associated with other CSI reports, such as those described with reference to FIG. 2. In some examples, for inter-CSI priority, the CSI priority rules may conditioned on whether a reporting type of the CSI report (e.g., AP reporting via PUSCH, SP reporting via PUSCH, SP reporting via PUCCH, P reporting via PUCCH) , a ServCell-ID, and a CSI-ReportConfigId are the same for the CSI report indicating measurements of the performance monitoring resources 235 and one or more other involved CSI reports.

[0229] FIG. 17 shows an example of a process flow 1700 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the process flow 1700 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1600, or any combination thereof.

[0230] The process flow 1700 includes a network entity 105-b and a UE 115-b, which may be examples of wireless devices as described herein. For example, the network entity 105-b and the UE 115-b illustrated in FIG. 17 may include examples of the network entity 105-a and the UE 115-a, respectively, as illustrated in FIG. 2.

[0231] In some examples, the operations illustrated in process flow 1700 may be performed by hardware (e.g., including circuitry, processing blocks, logic components, and other components) , code (e.g., software or firmware) executed by a processor, or any combination thereof. Alternative examples of the following may be implemented, where some steps are performed in a different order than described or are not performed at all. In some cases, steps may include additional features not mentioned below, or further steps may be added.

[0232] At 1705, the UE 115-b may receive control signaling indicating a CSI reporting configuration (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) that includes or otherwise indicates a set of CMRs 215 and a set of channel prediction target occasions (e.g., CPTs 230) , where the CMRs 215 are usable for determining predicted channel characteristics for the set of CPTs 230. Stated differently, the control signaling may indicate CMRs 215 that are to be measured and input into a model (e.g., ML / AI model) in order to make predictions for the set of CPTs 230. As noted previously herein, in some cases, the control signaling may indicate a model ID associated with the model that is to be used. The control signaling may include RRC signaling, DCI signaling, MAC-CE signaling, or any combination thereof.

[0233] The CSI reporting configuration at 1705 may further include or indicate a set of performance monitoring resources 235 for monitoring performance of the predicted channel characteristics. The performance monitoring resources 235 may be indicated by the CSI reporting configuration (CSI-ReportConfig) , in various manners or using various mechanisms within the CSI reporting configuration. In particular, the indication of the performance monitoring resources 235 may be based on whether the performance monitoring resources 235 are the same as, or included within, the set of CMRs 215, the set of prediction target occasions (e.g., CPTs 230) , or both.

[0234] Examples of a single CSI reporting configuration being used to configure CMRs 215, prediction target occasions (e.g., CPTs 230) , and performance monitoring resources 235 (e.g., Proposal #1) are shown and described via the beam management configurations 900-1200 in FIGs. 9–12.

[0235] At 1710, the UE 115-b may identify a set of associations (e.g., relationships) between the respective CPTs 230 and the performance monitoring resources 235 configured via the CSI reporting configuration. Stated differently, the UE 115-b may identify subsets of the CPTs 230 and subsets of the performance monitoring resources 235 that are associated with a same spatial filter. The associations may be implicitly determined / indicated as a connection between the CPTs 230 and performance monitoring resources 235, or via explicit indications of such connections / associations (e.g., via CPT IDs) . The UE 115-b may identify the associations between CPTs 230 and performance monitoring resources 235 as described previously herein with respect to the beam management configuration 1400 shown and described in FIG. 14.

[0236] At 1715, the network entity 105-b may output (e.g., transmit) a first set of reference signals within the set of CMRs 215. In some implementations, the reference signals may include CSI-RSs. In some aspects, the network entity 105-b may transmit the first set of reference signals in accordance with the CSI reporting configuration. As such, the network entity 105-b may output the first set of reference signals based on transmitting the control signaling including the CSI reporting configuration at 1705.

[0238] At 1725, the UE 115-b may determine predicted channel characteristics for the set of channel prediction targets (e.g., CPTs 230) based on the first set of measurements performed for the CMRs 215 at 1720. The predicted channel characteristics may include, but are not limited to, predicted RSRP, predicted RSRQ, predicted SNR, predicted SINR, predicted CQI, etc. In particular, in some cases, the UE 115-b may input the first set of measurements into a model (e.g., AI / ML model) , where the model is configured to output the predicted channel characteristics for the CPTs 230. In such cases, the UE 115-b may perform the predictions at 1725 based on (e.g., using) a model ID indicated by the network at 1705. As noted previously herein, predictions may be made for beam / resources in the future (e.g., temporal predictions) , and / or for other spatial resources (e.g., first measurements for a first set of spatial beams defined by CMRs 215 used to predict performance of second set of spatial beams associated with CPTs 230) .

[0239] At 1730, the network entity 105-b may output (e.g., transmit) a second set of reference signals within the set of performance monitoring resources 235. In some implementations, the reference signals may include CSI-RSs. In some aspects, the network entity 105-b may transmit the second set of reference signals in accordance with the CSI reporting configuration. As such, the network entity 105-b may output the second set of reference signals based on transmitting the control signaling including the CSI reporting configuration at 1705, outputting the first set of reference signals within the CMRs 215 at 1715, or both.

[0240] At 1735, the UE 115-b may perform a second set of measurements (e.g., CSI measurements, RSRP / RSRQ measurements, SNR / SINR measurements, CQI measurements) for the second set of reference signals received via (e.g., within) the set of performance monitoring resources 235 at 1730. In some aspects, the UE 115-b may perform the second set of measurements at 1735 in accordance with the CSI reporting configuration indicated at 1705.

[0241] At 1740, the UE 115-b may transmit one or more CSIs report to the network entity 105-b. The UE 115-b may transmit the CSI report (s) in accordance with the CSI reporting configuration (CSI-ReportConfig) indicated at 1705. In some aspects, the CSI report (s) may include (or otherwise be based on) the first set of measurements performed for the set of CMRs 215, the second set of measurements performed for the set of performance monitoring resources 235, or both. As noted previously herein, the relative priority of the CSI report (s) at 1740 may be based on whether or not the CSI report (s) includes the first set of measurements, the second set of measurements, or both.

[0242] At 1745 the UE 115-b, the network entity 105-b, or both, may evaluate an accuracy of the predictions made at 1725. Stated differently, the UE 115-b, the network entity 105-b, or both, may evaluate (e.g., monitor) the performance of the AI / ML model used to make the predictions. The UE 115-b and / or the network entity 105-b may evaluate the accuracy / performance of the predictions / model by comparing the predictions made for the CPTs 230 at 1725 with the second set of measurements made for the performance monitoring resources 235 at 1735.

[0243] As described previously herein with respect to FIG. 3, the accuracy / performance of models may be evaluated / monitored using network-side performance monitoring (e.g., first process flow 305-a in FIG. 3) , UE-assisted performance monitoring (e.g., second process flow 305-b in FIG. 3) , and / or UE-side performance monitoring (e.g., third process flow 305-c in FIG. 3) . Based on the evaluations / comparisons made at 1745, the UE 115-b and / or the network entity 105-b may be configured to update the model used to make predictions, switch to a different model, etc.

[0244] FIG. 18 shows an example of a process flow 1800 that supports techniques for configuration of performance monitoring of reference signals and reports in accordance with one or more aspects of the present disclosure. Aspects of the process flow 1800 may implement, or be implemented by, aspects of the wireless communications system 100, the wireless communications system 200, the performance monitoring configuration 300, the beam management configurations 400-1600, the process flow 1700, or any combination thereof.
