Description

AEROSOL GENERATING ARTICLEThis application claims the benefit of priority to Chinese patent application No. 202411644054.1, filed on November 15, 2024, entitled “Aerosol Generating Article” , the entire disclosures of which are incorporated herein by reference.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of tobacco products, and more particularly to an aerosol generating article.BACKGROUND

[0002] Heat Not Burn (HNB) , also known as low temperature cigarette, is a novel type of tobacco product that incorporates a heating device and a stick, which is designed with an idea of “only heating but not burning" and is exemplified as “low temperature cigarettes” . The low temperature cigarettes can heat processed reconstituted tobacco (such as, a special stick) utilizing a special heating device (such as, a smoking device) to a certain temperature and to such an extent that the reconstituted tobacco is heated sufficiently to emit smoke for consumption. The HNB has advantages in that it is more harmless and can restore a pure taste and throat sensation of a cigarette, and thus can provide smokers with a nearest alternative to traditional cigarettes.

[0003] HNB product includes a heating device and a HNB stick. The HNB stick generally includes an aerosol generating substrate, a cooling segment and a filter segment. The aerosol generating substrate is an important part. The aerosol generating substrate is heated in a heating chamber and emits smoke similar to traditional cigarettes, and then the smoke passes through the cooling segment and the filter segment for the smokers to inhale.

[0004] In existing HNB stick product on the market, the aerosol generating substrate can generate smoke mainly using reconstituted tobacco sheets or tobacco shreds as a core material and glycerol or propylene glycol as an aerosol generating agent with addition of flavors and other components through a lower heating temperature (usually 300℃-350℃) to achieve a smoking effect. HNB product releases fewer harmful substances, and actual heating temperature is significantly lower than traditional tobacco, which results in less smoke release and reduced smoking sensation. To increase smoke amount of the product, the amount of glycerol and propylene glycol needs to be increased. However, glycerol itself has good hygroscopicity, which can result in high hygroscopicity of the product and cause great inconvenience for later processing and storage. Moreover, after opening the packaging, high hygroscopicity can cause uneven smoking of different cigarettes. In addition, the conduction of heat requires a time process, and the smoke amount of the same cigarette at different times is also inconsistent.

[0005] In order to increase the smoke amount, existing technologies have proposed using a capsule encapsulating propylene glycol / glycerol as an aerosol generating substrate, but most related technologies only use the capsule as a part of an aerosol generating material. Some patents also mention using a pure capsule directly as aerosol generating materials and placing the capsule in an aerosol generating substrate segment, where a single capsule is used and there is a need to address a problem of core material outflow after capsule rupture, for example, by absorbing the core material of the capsule using an absorbent pad. However, relevant technical literature has not clearly proposed how to directly use the capsule as an aerosol generating material, nor has solved a series of technical problems of directly using the capsule as the aerosol generating material. SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0006] Therefore, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a HNB product (also referred to as a heated tobacco product (HTP) , a low-temperature cigarette product, or generically as a heated product) , namely an aerosol generating article, which can not only reduce heating release temperature and thus reduce smoke hazards, but also increase smoke release continuity and enhance smoking experience of the smokers.

[0007] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating article includes an aerosol generating substrate segment. The aerosol generating substrate segment includes a plurality of aerosol generating capsules. The capsule is commonly known as seamless capsule and is typically spherical. When the smoke release amount is designed to be the same, a multi-capsule system can reduce the content of the aerosol generating agent (such as propylene glycol and glycerol) contained in each aerosol generating capsule. During a heating release process, the aerosol generating capsules near a heat source are first ruptured. Due to a small amount of core material in each aerosol generating capsule, the core material can adhere to a shell of the aerosol generating capsule. The aerosol generating agent in the core material continues to evaporate and release smoke and takes away some heat. As the aerosol generating agent evaporates, the heat continues to accumulate, and the aerosol generating capsules slightly away from the heat source will also be ruptured. The aerosol generating agent in the corresponding core material will continue to evaporate and take away some heat after release until the corresponding aerosol generating agent is consumed completely, and the heat continues to accumulate. The aerosol generating capsules far away from the heat source will also be ruptured later. Therefore, multiple aerosol generating capsules will continue to be ruptured sequentially during heating, and the core material will not flow out in large quantities at once, which can prevent a large amount of core material flowing out instantly after the aerosol generating capsules are ruptured, and also eliminate the need for the specific absorbent pad to absorb the core material. Furthermore, multiple aerosol generating capsules are ruptured sequentially, and the aerosol generating agent is gradually released, which can achieve better continuity and stability of the smoke and more even release of the smoke.

[0008] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment is devoid of absorbent material. By omitting the encapsulated liquid core absorption component, the structural complexity of the product is reduced, thereby lowering the manufacturing difficulty for aerosol generating articles.

[0009] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment does not include other aerosol generating materials. Since different aerosol generating materials have inconsistent heating release temperatures, the aerosol generating capsules can be released at a lower temperature, and the heating release temperature can be further reduced. Using a single type of aerosol generating material, such as, the aerosol generating capsule, can employ a lower heating release temperature while maintaining release efficiency, which can save energy consumption and reduce a potential hazardous component released at a high temperature.

[0010] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules are filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment in a random tight packing manner or a random loose packing manner. Random packing can ensure that the aerosol generating capsules have a higher void volume fraction, which can reduce draw resistance. Even if the aerosol generating capsules are ruptured after heating, the draw resistance will not significantly increase.

[0011] According to some embodiments, a void volume fraction of the aerosol generating capsules filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment is greater than 25%, and preferably greater than 36%. A lower void volume fraction will cause greater draw resistance, and after heating, the aerosol generating capsules may collapse and accumulate, which causes an increase of the draw resistance. Therefore, an appropriate void volume fraction can help to maintain a good smoking experience.

[0012] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment is filled with the aerosol generating capsules, but not fully filled with the aerosol generating capsules. In order to further increase the void volume fraction, the aerosol generating substrate segment is not fully filled with the aerosol generating capsules, which can further reduce the draw resistance. Moreover, during suction, the aerosol generating capsules will move upwards with the suction and become looser, which can further reduce the draw resistance. Moreover, a loose packaging or a non-full packaging can reduce resistance of a central heating device inserted into the aerosol generating substrate segment.

[0013] According to some embodiments, a vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is less than a length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. As the aerosol generating substrate segment is not fully filled with the aerosol generating capsules, the vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules is less than the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment, which can reduce the draw resistance.

[0014] According to some embodiments, the vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is less than 95%of the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. According to some embodiments, the vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is less than 80%of the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. According to some embodiments, the vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is less than 60%of the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. In fact, if necessary, further reducing the volume of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment can further reduce the draw resistance. However, lower filling amount and density can also reduce the smoke release effect and affect the smoking experience.

[0015] According to some embodiments, a length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10%to 60%of a total length of the aerosol generating article. As the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules can be adjusted, in order to adapt to different heating methods or release effects, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment filled with the aerosol generating capsules can be adjusted in a wide enough adjustment range.

[0016] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules have the same or different particle size. The combination of different particle sizes can also optimize the matching of heating methods or release effects.

[0017] According to some embodiments, the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules ranges from 0.2 mm to 8 mm, and preferably from 1 mm to 3 mm, and more preferably from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm. When the smoke release amount is designed to be the same, if the aerosol generating capsules have a too small particle size, then each aerosol generating capsules have a low amount of the core material, and thus, although uniformity of smoke release may be improved, a reduced carrying capacity of an aerosol generating agent may also be caused, and filling void volume fraction may also be reduced, which may both have an adverse effect on smoke release effect. Therefore, an appropriate particle size, especially a moderate particle size, can ensure a good smoking experience, and can also prevent the core material of the aerosol generating capsules with a large particle size flowing out from the aerosol generating article.

[0018] According to some embodiments, a core material in the aerosol generating capsules is a colloid, a paste or a solid-liquid mixture. The core material in form of liquid has good fluidity, and will not adhere to the shell of the aerosol generating capsules. If the core material is not pure liquid or has a certain viscosity, it will adhere to the shell after heating, which can effectively prevent the core material from flowing out of the aerosol generating article.

[0019] According to some embodiments, a mass ratio of an aerosol generating agent to a core material in the aerosol generating capsules is 4%to 60%, and preferably 40%to 60%. A higher content of the aerosol generating agent can increase carrying capacity of capsule smoke components, thereby ensuring good smoking effect.

[0020] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating agent in the aerosol generating capsules includes propylene glycol and / or glycerol. According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating agent includes propylene glycol and glycerol. Propylene glycol and glycerol are common aerosol generating agents, and the combination of propylene glycol and glycerol can achieve a balance between rapid release and smoking effect, and release sufficient smoke at low temperatures.

[0021] According to some embodiments, the core material further includes any one or more of flavor, extract, nicotine and nicotine salt. By adding above components, the aerosol generating article can provide different flavors and meet different needs of the smokers for flavor, health, taste and other aspects.

[0022] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating agent in the aerosol generating capsules has the same or different component and proportion. By using the aerosol generating capsules with different components and proportions, different levels of release effects can be achieved. For example, by providing the aerosol generating capsules with different components and proportions in different spatial segments, early and late release can produce completely different smoking effects.

[0023] According to some embodiments, a shell of the aerosol generating capsules is formed of a material including any one or more of plant gel, animal gel, microbial gel, starch and modified starch material. The above materials have good safety and are more prone to rapture compared with synthetic chemical polymers, and the prepared aerosol generating capsules have good strength.

[0024] According to some embodiments, a shell of the aerosol generating capsules has a thickness ranging from 50 μm to 150 μm. A greater thickness of the shell will increase the difficulty of capsule rupture by heating and reduce the release speed, and a less thickness of the shell will reduce capsule strength and make it difficult to prepare.

[0025] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment further includes one or more auxiliary material capsules, and the auxiliary material capsules include any one or more of flavor capsule, extract capsule, nicotine capsule and nicotine salt capsule. By adding auxiliary material capsules, different types and flavors of aerosol generating articles can be achieved, and the mixing of multiple types of capsules makes it easy to adjust the taste of the aerosol generating articles. Moreover, the preparation of single-component capsules is relatively easier than that of complex component capsules, which can reduce production difficulty.

[0026] According to some embodiments, a volume ratio of the auxiliary material capsules to the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10: 1 to 1: 10. By adjusting the volume ratio of the auxiliary material capsules to the aerosol generating capsules, the flavor and taste of the aerosol generating articles can be effectively adjusted.

[0027] According to some embodiments, a seal is provided at an end of the aerosol generating article adjacent to the aerosol generating substrate segment. When the aerosol generating capsules are not packaged as a whole, the aerosol generating article may be prepared by directly filling the aerosol generating capsules in a tube, and thus the seal is needed in this situation.

[0028] According to some embodiments, the seal is formed of paper, non-woven fabric, fabric and a thermally conductive material. The above seal can achieve effective sealing and meet various performance parameters required for aerosol release.

[0029] According to some embodiments, the thermally conductive material includes metal foil, and preferably aluminum foil. The sealing of the thermally conductive material can effectively absorb heat and quickly conduct the heat to the aerosol generating capsules, which can improve aerosol release speed.

[0030] According to some embodiments, the seal includes an acetate fiber rod or a cotton rod. When using the fiber rod for sealing, better effects can be achieved in certain heating methods, such as during central heating, the fiber rod can help to clean a central heating sheet or heating needle.

[0031] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating article further includes a filter segment. The filter segment can help to filter out odors in aerosols and improve smoke uniformity.

[0032] According to some embodiments, the filter segment includes one or more filter members. Various filter members can produce different filtering effects and achieve filtering goal on the whole.

[0033] According to some embodiments, the filter members are sequentially connected along an axial or radial direction of the filter segment. The filter members connected along the axial direction can achieve multiple filtering purposes, and the filter members connected along the radial direction can improve smoke uniformity.

[0034] According to some embodiments, the filter members include a solid porous filter rod or a hollow filter rod. The solid porous filter rod can ensure filtering effectiveness, and the hollow filter rod can reduce the draw resistance and decrease smoke absorption.

[0035] According to some embodiments, the filter members include a solid porous filter rod and a hollow filter rod connected along an axial direction of the filter segment. By combining two types of filter rods, effective filtering can be achieved while reducing the draw resistance and minimizing smoke loss.

[0036] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment and the filter segment are packaged in a same tube. By packaging the aerosol generating substrate segment and the filter segment in the same tube, production difficulty can be reduced and production efficiency can be improved.

[0037] According to some embodiments, the filter segment is adjacent to the aerosol generating substrate segment in an axial direction of the tube of the aerosol generating article, and the filter segment is configured to limit a length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. By limiting a space of the aerosol generating substrate segment through the filter segment, the structural complexity of the aerosol generating article can be reduced. Under a low-temperature release system of the present disclosure, conventional filter segment can be used to achieve filtering and limiting effects, and there will be no melting problem of the filter rod.

[0038] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating article further includes a limiting part configured to limit the aerosol generating capsule in a fixed area or a movable area. Fixing the aerosol generating capsules in the fixed area or the movable area through the limiting part can help to maintain the stability of the overall structure.

[0039] According to some embodiments, the limiting part is movable and configured to limit the movable area of the aerosol generating capsules. The movable limiting part can provide a more flexible aerosol generating substrate space and also facilitate production.

[0040] According to some embodiments, the limiting part has a cooling function. The cooling function of the limiting part can reduce the structural complexity of the aerosol generating articles while performing the cooling function when necessary.

[0041] According to some embodiments, the limiting part has a supporting function. The supporting function of the limiting part can reduce the structural complexity of the aerosol generating articles when necessary.

[0042] According to some embodiments, the limiting part is a prefabricated molded member or a rolled sheet member with an airflow channel. The prefabricated molded member has higher strength and is more suitable to provide higher strength support, and the rolled sheet member is more suitable to achieve cooling effect.

[0043] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules are packaged as a whole to be fixed in the tube to form the aerosol generating substrate segment. Prepackaging the aerosol generating capsules as a whole can help to improve the convenience and consistency of assembly.

[0044] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules are packaged as a whole by a thermally conductive material. Preassembling the aerosol generating capsules as a whole using the thermally conductive material can improve the efficiency of heat transfer and enhance the release effect.

[0045] According to some embodiments, a tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment is provided with one or more vent holes. Punching holes in the tube can increase airflow and effectively reduce the draw resistance. When the multi-capsule system releases heat, bottom capsules are ruptured and accumulated, and core liquid adheres, which may increase the draw resistance. Therefore, punching holes on a side can supplement the airflow and reduce the draw resistance in later heat release.

[0046] According to some embodiments, the vent holes are distributed on some or all sections of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. The distribution of the vent holes can further reduce the draw resistance.

[0047] According to some embodiments, a thermally conductive layer is provided on an inner surface of the tube of the aerosol generating article corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. The thermally conductive layer can facilitate absorption and rapid transfer of heat and effectively increase aerosol release speed.

[0048] According to some embodiments, the thermally conductive layer is formed of metal foil, and preferably aluminum foil. Metal generally has excellent thermal conductivity, and aluminum foil is a mature metal foil material. Choosing metal foil, especially aluminum foil, can ensure good thermal conductivity.

[0049] According to some embodiments, a length of the thermally conductive layer is greater than or equal to a length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. By covering the entire aerosol generating substrate segment with the thermally conductive layer, the comprehensive coverage of thermal conductivity can be ensured.

[0050] According to some embodiments, the length of the thermally conductive layer is less than the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. When the filling amount of the aerosol generating capsules is low, the length of the thermally conductive layer can be shorter. At the same time, in a system with higher release temperature, the shorter thermally conductive layer can avoid transferring heat to a section near mouth so as to avoid affecting the temperature of inlet smoke.

[0051] According to some embodiments, the tube of the aerosol generating article has a length ranging from 30 mm to 84 mm and a diameter ranging from 3.0 mm to 10.0 mm. The aerosol generating articles with a multi-capsule structure can adapt to diverse tube structure parameters, thereby meeting various application requirements.

[0052] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules have a filling amount of 0.05 g to 0.5 g. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules have a filling amount of 0.1 g to 0.3 g. At a certain smoke release amount, a higher filling amount may cause a waste of material, and a lower filling amount may reduce aerosol generating continuity, thus a moderate filling amount can ensure a good smoking sensation.

[0053] According to some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules have a filling amount of 5 capsules to 100 capsules. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules have a filling amount of 15 capsules to 30 capsules. When the smoke release amount is designed to be the same, a lower number of the aerosol generating capsules may lead to too much core material per capsule, which can easily cause the core material to flow out from the aerosol generating article, and a higher number of the aerosol generating capsules may lead to an increase in the draw resistance, which will affect smoking experience. Moreover, a moderate filling amount can also ensure a uniform aerosol release.

[0054] In the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the aerosol generating article includes an aerosol generating substrate segment. The aerosol generating substrate segment includes one or more aerosol generating capsules. Compared with existing products using reconstituted tobacco sheets or tobacco shreds as core materials, the aerosol generating article can achieve uniform and sufficient smoke release at lower heating temperatures, thereby effectively reducing energy consumption and harmful substance release while improving smoking experience. Moreover, through the packaging of the shell, good protection can be provided for the core material in the aerosol generating capsules, which can avoid quality changes caused by external environmental influences, ensure the stability of the core material in long-term storage of the product, and better guarantee the quality of the product. Compared with the products using a single aerosol generating capsule, a multi-capsule system can provide better continuity and uniformity of smoke during heating.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0067] It should be understood that in the description of the present disclosure, the orientation or position relationship indicated by the terms, such as “center” , “up” , “down” , “front” , “back” , “left” , “right” , “vertical” , “horizontal” , “top” , “bottom” , “inside” and “outside” , is based on the orientation or position relationship shown in the drawings, which is only intended to facilitate the description of the present disclosure and to simplify the description, but not to indicate or imply that the device or element referred to must have a particular orientation or must be constructed and operated in a specific orientation, and therefore cannot be regarded as a limitation of the present disclosure.

[0068] The following terms “first” and “second” mentioned below are only intended for the purpose of description, and shall not be understood as an indication or implication of relative importance or implicit indication of a quantity of indicated technical features. Therefore, the features limited by “first” and “second” may explicitly or implicitly include one or more features. In the descriptions of embodiments of the present disclosure, unless otherwise specified, “a plurality of” means two or more.

[0069] In the description of the present disclosure, it should be noted that the terms “connection” and “connected” should be understood in a broad sense unless explicitly stated and limited otherwise. For example, they may be fixed connections, removable connections, and integral connections. They can be connected directly, or connected indirectly through an intermediate medium, or can be the internal communication of two elements. For those skilled in the art, the specific meanings of the above terms in the present disclosure may be understood according to specific conditions.

[0070] In the description of the present disclosure, the described specific feature, structure, material or characteristic may be combined in a suitable manner in any one or more embodiments or examples.

[0071] In order to resolve the problem of low smoke amount and difficulty in preservation due to significant environmental impact caused by the use of reconstituted tobacco sheets or tobacco shreds as core materials in the aerosol generating substrate of existing HNB product, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides an aerosol generating article including an aerosol generating substrate segment. The aerosol generating substrate segment includes a plurality of aerosol generating capsules, which can not only achieve uniform and sufficient smoke release at lower heating temperatures, but also enhance user experience and ensure stability of product quality even when stored for a long time.

[0072] In some embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment may only contain the aforementioned aerosol generating capsules, and do not contain other aerosol generating materials.

[0073] In other embodiments, the aerosol generating substrate segment may simultaneously contain the aforementioned aerosol generating capsules and other aerosol generating materials.

[0074] In other embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules may be tightly or non-tightly filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment. A tight filling, for example, may refer to that a loose packing height of vertical natural filling of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is equal to the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment. A non-tight filling, that is, a loose filling, for example, may refer to that the loose packing height of vertical natural filling of the aerosol generating capsules in the aerosol generating substrate segment is less than the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment.

[0075] The aerosol generating capsules may be filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment in a random tight packing manner or a random loose packing manner. Regardless of the filling manner, the aerosol generating substrate segment may be fully or not fully filled with the aerosol generating capsules.

[0076] It should be noted that there will be a certain void volume fraction when the aerosol generating capsules are filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment. The void volume fraction refers to a ratio of a volume of the aerosol generating substrate segment minus a volume of the aerosol generating capsules to a total volume of the aerosol generating substrate segment. In some embodiments, the void volume fraction is greater than 25%. In some embodiments, the void volume fraction is greater than 36%.

[0077] In some embodiments, one end of the aerosol generating article near the aerosol generating substrate segment may be provided with a seal, and the other end may be provided with a limiting part and / or a filter segment. The aerosol generating substrate segment, the limiting part and / or the filter segment can be packaged in a same tube. The length of the tube may range from 30 mm to 84 mm, such as 40 mm, 45 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, 70 mm or 80 mm. The diameter of the tube may range from 3.0 mm to 10.0 mm, such as 5.0 mm, 6.0 mm, 7.0 mm, 8.0 mm or 9.0 mm.

[0078] In some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules may be packaged as a whole to be fixed in the tube to form the aerosol generating substrate segment. With this arrangement, the plurality of aerosol generating capsules can be prepackaged and inserted into the tube to form the aerosol generating substrate segment during manufacturing.

[0079] In some embodiments, the aerosol generating capsules are packaged as a whole by a thermally conductive material. The thermally conductive material can rapidly conduct heat, increase the smoke amount of the aerosol generating capsules and reduce the waiting time from heating to smoking.

[0080] In some embodiments, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment can be arbitrarily set, for example, the length may be 10%to 60%of a total length of the aerosol generating article.

[0081] The specific structure of the aerosol generating article of the present disclosure will be illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0082] Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0083] In some embodiments, the aerosol generating article 10 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 101. The aerosol generating substrate segment 101 includes a plurality of aerosol generating capsules 104. The aerosol generating article 10 also includes a seal 105, a limiting part 102 and a filter segment 103.

[0084] The seal 105 may be formed of paper, non-woven fabric, fabric, a thermally conductive material, etc. The seal 105 may be directly adhered to an end surface of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101. The thermally conductive material may be metal foil, such as aluminum foil, which can increase thermal conductivity and reduce heating waiting time during suction. Except for specific embodiments, the seal is generally permeable or has permeable holes to ensure that airflow can enter the aerosol generating article.

[0085] The limiting part 102 is adjacent to an end of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 away from an end of the aerosol generating article 10, and the filter segment 103 may be adjacent to or spaced a certain distance from the limiting part 102.

[0086] In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 or the filter segment 103 may not be provided. For example, the filter segment 103 may be directly adjacent to the end of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 away from the end of the aerosol generating article 10. In this structure design, the filter segment 103 serves both to filter smoke and to limit the aerosol generating capsules 104 to prevent leakage.

[0087] In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 is configured to limit the aerosol generating capsules 104 in a fixed area or a movable area. In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 may be movable and configured to limit the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the movable area. The movable area is defined relative to the fixed area, and the movable area refers to an area where the aerosol generating capsules are movable. For example, the aerosol generating capsules can move leftward and rightward along an axial direction or rotate about the axial direction between the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 and the filter segment 103. In other embodiments, the limiting part 102 may also be fixed to limit the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the fixed area.

[0088] The limiting part 102 not only serves to limit the aerosol generating capsules 104, but also has a cooling function. That is, the smoke generated by heating the aerosol generating article 10 will first pass through the limiting part 102 and then pass through the filter rod to reach the mouth of the smoker. Therefore, the limiting part 102 can also have a cooling effect to avoid smoke burning the mouth. Certainly, the limiting part 102 can also have a supporting function to enhance the strength of the aerosol generating article and avoid deformation or indentation of the tube.

[0089] In some embodiments, the limiting part 102 may be a prefabricated molded member or a rolled sheet member, which is not limited by the present disclosure. FIG. 4 illustrates some specific structural examples of the limiting part 102. In order to ensure smooth airflow, one or more airflow channels may also be provided on the limiting part 102. The material of the limiting part 102 may include, but is not limited to, any one of the following: plant fiber, resin, metal, etc. On the one hand, the airflow channel can reduce the draw resistance, and on the other hand, the airflow channel can also prevent the aerosol generating capsules 104 from passing through.

[0090] In some embodiments, the filter segment 103 may include one or more filter members. Various filter members can be sequentially connected along an axial or radial direction of the filter segment. The filter members may be a solid, hollow, or porous filter rod, which is not limited by the present disclosure. The filter rod may be formed by processing one or more fibers.

[0091] In some embodiments, the filter segment 103 may include a solid porous filter rods and a hollow filter rod connected along the axial direction of the filter segment.

[0092] Referring to FIG. 2, FIG. 2 illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 2, the aerosol generating substrate segment is not fully filled with the aerosol generating capsules.

[0093] The aerosol generating article in this embodiment differs from the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 in that the aerosol generating article in FIG. 2 does not include the filter segment 103 in FIG. 1. In some embodiments, the aerosol generating article in this embodiment can omit the filter segment, because the present disclosure uses aerosol generating capsules as the aerosol generating material, the composition of the aerosol generating capsules is relatively clear, and there are fewer impurities in low-temperature heating release. Moreover, the heating release temperature of the aerosol generating capsules is low, which can avoid the problem of smoke burning mouth of the filter segment.

[0094] As mentioned above, the aerosol generating capsules may be tightly or non-tightly filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment. As shown in FIG. 3, in the non-tightly filling of the embodiment in FIG. 2, the vertical loose packing height h of the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 is less than the length H of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101, that is, h<H. The aerosol generating capsules 104 can move in a range of the length H of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101.

[0095] In some embodiments, the vertical loose packing height of the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 may be less than 95%, 85%, 80%, 75%or 60%of the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101, etc., which is not limited by the present disclosure.

[0096] In some embodiments, the shape of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be circular, elliptical, etc., and the particle size may be the same or different, which is not limited by the present disclosure. For example, in some embodiments, the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may range from 0.2 mm to 8 mm, and preferably from 1 mm to 3 mm, and more preferably from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm. For example, the particle size may be 1.8 mm, 2.0 mm, and so on.

[0097] Depending on different particle size of the aerosol generating capsules 104 and different length of the aerosol generating substrate segment 101, the number or weight of the aerosol generating capsules 104 filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 may also vary. For example, in some embodiments, the filling amount of the aerosol generating capsules 104 is 5-100 capsules, and preferably 15-30 capsules. In some specific embodiments, 20 or more capsules may be preferred. For example, in some embodiments, the filling amount of the aerosol generating capsules 104 is 0.05 g -0.5 g, and preferably 0.1 g -0.3 g.

[0098] In some embodiments, the core material of the aerosol generating capsules 104 mainly includes an aerosol generating agent, and a mass ratio of the aerosol generating agent to the core material may be, for example, 4%to 60%, and preferably 40%to 60%.

[0099] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the main component of the aerosol generating agent may include Propylene Glycol (PG) and / or Vegetable Glycerol (VG) . For example, in some embodiments, the component of the aerosol generating agent includes propylene glycol and glycerol, with propylene glycol and glycerol accounting for 5-60 wt %of the weight of the core material. In some embodiments, propylene glycol and glycerol may account for 15 wt %-50 wt %of the weight of the core material. In other embodiments, propylene glycol and glycerol may account for 25 wt %-45 wt %of the weight of the core material, such as 25 wt %, 30 wt %, 35 wt %, 40 wt %, or 45 wt %.

[0100] By combining propylene glycol and glycerol, a lower aerosol release temperature can be achieved while having sufficient smoke release. Using the aerosol generating material encapsulated by a capsule can enable the aerosol generating article to achieve uniform and sufficient smoke release at lower heating temperatures, which can reduce the energy consumption required for heating during suction, reduce the release of harmful substances, and improve the smoking sensation of the smokers.

[0101] In some embodiments, in order to provide a rich mouthfeel, other components may also be added to the core material of the aerosol generating capsules 104, for example, the core material may also include, but is not limited to, any one or more of the following: flavor, extract, nicotine, nicotine salt, etc. For example, in some embodiments, the core material also includes flavor and / or extract accounting for 0.1 wt %to 20 wt %of the weight of the core material. In some embodiments, the core material further includes nicotine and / or nicotine salts accounting for 0.1 wt %-20 wt %of the weight of the core material. The extract may be animal extract or plant extract, such as musk, ambergris, tea extract and momordica grosvenorii extract. The taste may be adjusted as required.

[0102] It should be noted that the component and proportion of the aerosol generating agent in the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be the same or different, which is not limited by the present disclosure.

[0103] In some embodiments, the core material of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may further include a lipophilic formulation and a structuring agent. The structuring agent may include cellulose and / or cellulose derivative, low molecular weight lipid and surfactant. The core material may be a colloid, a paste or a solid-liquid mixture at room temperature. The combination of cellulose and / or cellulose derivative with low molecular weight lipid can facilitate the formation of a network structure that is conducive to the dispersion and fixation of propylene glycol and glycerol in the lipophilic formulation. The surfactant helps to form an oil film between the core material and the shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104, thereby facilitating the encapsulating of the core material by the shell. The core material formed by propylene glycol and glycerol, lipophilic formulation and structuring agent is in the form of a colloid, a paste or a solid-liquid mixture at room temperature (25℃) , which can facilitate the stable encapsulating of the core material by the shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104.

[0104] It should be noted that the lipophilic formulation and the structuring agent in the core material are used to encapsulate the aerosol generating agent and other components. In order to encapsulate the aerosol generating agent and other components in the core material, other encapsulation methods in existing technology can also be used, such as coating rounding method, frozen coating method and coagulation method.

[0105] In some embodiments, the material of the shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be a thermosetting resin, which is formed by curing epoxy resin under a photoinitiator.

[0106] In some embodiments, the material of the shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may include, but is not limited to, any one or more of following gelling agents: plant gel, animal gel, microbial gel, starch, modified starch materials, etc. The animal gel may be gelatin, fish gel, chitosan, etc., and the plant gel may be carrageenan, sodium alginate, gellan gum, tamarind gum, etc.

[0107] In order to facilitate the shaping during processing, the material of the shell may further include a curing agent. The curing agent may be a polyol, such as glycerol or sorbitol.

[0108] In some embodiments, the material of the shell may further include a reinforcing agent, such as a metal salt, specifically calcium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, or monocalcium phosphate.

[0109] The thickness of the shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be designed to be 50-150 μm, such as 60 μm, 80 μm, 100 μm, 120 μm, 140 μm or 150 μm.

[0110] In some embodiments of preparing the aerosol generating capsules 104, raw materials containing propylene glycol and glycerol, lipophilic formulation and structuring agent can be mixed to obtain the core material. Raw materials containing gelling agents, curing agents and water are used to prepare a shell liquid, and then the core material is encapsulated with the shell liquid to produce the aerosol generating capsules. The method of encapsulating the core material with the shell liquid to prepare the aerosol generating capsules can adopt some existing encapsulation methods, such as concentric tube dropping method.

[0111] The shell of the aerosol generating capsules 104 may be ruptured at a certain heating temperature, which causes the core material to release and generate aerosols.

[0112] The release temperature of the aerosol generating capsules 104 is usually lower than a smoke generating temperature of reconstituted tobacco sheets or tobacco shreds added with aerosol generating agents such as glycerol or propylene glycol. In some embodiments, the heating release temperature of the aerosol generating article may be 180-280℃. In some embodiments, the heating release temperature of the aerosol generating article may be 220-260℃, such as 220℃, 230℃, 240℃, 250℃ or 260℃. Compared with existing HNB products, the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure can reduce the waiting time from heating to smoking and reduce the energy consumption of the heating device. At different heating temperatures, the amount of aerosols released by the aerosol generating capsules 104 may vary.

[0113] In addition, as the heating temperature continues to rise, the amount of the aerosols released by the aerosol generating capsules 104 gradually increase. When reaching a certain temperature, such as 300℃, if there are other mixed aerosol generating materials, other mixed aerosol generating materials outside the aerosol generating capsules 104 also begin to generate smoke, which can further enhance the smoking experience of the smokers. In addition, some components such as flavors may also be added to the mixed aerosol generating materials to enrich the taste of aerosols and better meet the needs of different smokers for taste.

[0114] In some embodiments, in order to enhance different mouthfeels, one or more auxiliary material capsules may be added to the aerosol generating substrate segment 101. That is to say, the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 includes the aerosol generating capsules 104 mentioned above and the auxiliary material capsules. In specific implementation, the auxiliary material capsules may include any one or more of the following: flavor capsule, extract capsule, nicotine capsule, nicotine salt capsule, etc. In some embodiments, multiple components may also be mixed together and placed in a same auxiliary material capsule, which is not limited by the present disclosure.

[0115] In some embodiments, a volume ratio of the auxiliary material capsules to the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 may be 10: 1-1: 10, which can better meet personalized needs of different smokers for suction taste.

[0116] In specific implementation, the material of the shell, particle size and shape of the auxiliary material capsules may be the same or different from the material of the shell, particle size and shape of the aerosol generating capsules 104, which is not limited by the present disclosure. In addition, the distribution of the auxiliary material capsules and the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 may be uniform or non-uniform, which is not limited by the present disclosure.

[0117] The aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure has strong universality and can be adapted to various heating devices, such as needle heating devices, ceramic heating plate devices, air heating devices or microwave heating devices.

[0118] Referring to FIG. 5, FIG. 5 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article assembled into a central heating device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0119] This example takes a needle heating device and the aerosol generating article 10 shown in FIG. 1 as an example. The heating process will be briefly explained below in conjunction with FIG. 1.

[0120] When heating, the aerosol generating article 10 is inserted into a heating device QC, and a needle heating element QC1 in the heating device QC is inserted into the aerosol generating substrate segment 101. A power supply and control unit QC2 controls the needle heating element QC1 to start heating. When heated to a certain temperature, such as 180℃, the aerosol generating capsules 104 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 begins to release and produce smoke. The smoke passes through the airflow channel on the limiting part 102 and reaches the filter segment 103, and then the smoke is filtered by the filter segment 103 and reaches the mouth of the smokers.

[0121] In some embodiments, a susceptor may also be installed in the aerosol generating substrate segment to adapt to electromagnetic induction heating of the heating devices.

[0122] Referring to FIG. 6, FIG. 6 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article 20 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0123] In some embodiments, the aerosol generating article 20 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 201. The aerosol generating substrate segment 201 includes a plurality of aerosol generating capsules 204. The aerosol generating article 20 also includes a seal 205, a limiting part 202 and a filter segment 203.

[0124] Specifically, the aerosol generating substrate segment 201, the limiting part 202 and the filter segment 203 are similar to the aerosol generating substrate segment 101, the limiting part 102 and the filter segment 103 shown in FIG. 1, and thus will not be repeated here.

[0125] In some embodiments, the seal 205 is an acetate fiber rod or a cotton rod, which is sealed at one end of the aerosol generating substrate segment.

[0126] Similarly, the aerosol generating capsules in this embodiment may be tightly or non-tightly filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment. As shown in FIG. 7, in a non-tightly filling, the vertical loose packing height h of the aerosol generating capsules 204 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 201 is less than the length H of the aerosol generating substrate segment 201, that is, h<H.

[0127] Referring to FIG. 8, FIG. 8 schematically illustrates a structural view of an aerosol generating article 30 according to another embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0128] In this embodiment, the aerosol generating article 30 includes an aerosol generating substrate segment 301. The aerosol generating substrate segment 301 includes a plurality of aerosol generating capsules 304. The aerosol generating article 30 also includes a seal 305, a limiting part 302 and a filter segment 303.

[0129] The aerosol generating substrate segment 301 and the limiting part 302 are packaged in the same tube, and are packaged in the same tube or different tubes as the filter segment 303.

[0130] In this embodiment, there is a certain gap between the limiting part 302 and an inner wall of the tube, which can serve as an airflow channel and facilitate the movement of the limiting part 302 in the tube. That is, the limiting part 302 is not fixed, but can move in a certain spatial range. For example, the limiting part 302 can rotate about an axial direction or move leftward and rightward along the axial direction.

[0131] Two ends of the limiting part 302 in the axis direction are adjacent to the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 and the filter segment 303, respectively. In this embodiment, the limiting part 302 may be formed by rolling sheet materials, such as paper sheet or polylactic acid sheet material. There are gaps between a center and / or coils of the rolled sheet materials. The aerosols generated by the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 can reach the filter segment through the aforementioned gaps or a gap between the limiting part 302 and the inner wall of the tube. The aerosol generating capsules 304 cannot pass through the gaps of the limiting part 302 and the gap between the limiting part 302 and the inner wall of the tube.

[0132] Specifically, the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 and the filter segment 303 are similar to the aerosol generating substrate segment 101 and the filter segment 103 shown in FIG. 1, and thus will not be repeated here.

[0133] The aerosol generating capsules 304 may be tightly or non-tightly filled in the aerosol generating substrate segment 301. As shown in FIG. 9, in a non-tightly filling, the vertical loose packing height h of the aerosol generating capsules 304 in the aerosol generating substrate segment 301 is less than the length H of the aerosol generating substrate segment 301, that is, h<H.

[0134] In some embodiments, one or more vent holes may also be provided on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. The vent holes may be distributed on some or all sections of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. This design can effectively reduce the draw resistance and enhance suction effect.

[0135] In some embodiments, a thermally conductive layer may also be provided on an inner surface of the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment. The length of the thermally conductive layer may be greater than, less than or equal to the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment, which can enhance heat transfer efficiency and reduce heating waiting time during suction.

[0136] In some embodiments, for the convenience of production and to improve the flame retardant effect, the thermally conductive layer may also be provided on the entire surface of the tube.

[0137] The thermally conductive layer may be formed of a material such as metal foil, and preferably aluminum foil, which can not only provide thermal conductivity but also provide flame retardancy.

[0138] The aerosol generating capsules according to the embodiments of the present disclosure can be prepared by various methods, such as the following method, and the like.

[0139] 40 weight parts of sunflower seed oil was heated to 100℃, and then, 7.1 weight parts of ethyl cellulose, 1.4 weight parts of beeswax, and 2.1 weight parts of palm wax were added therein while stirring, dissolved, and mixed well. Thereafter, the mixture was cooled to 60℃, and 24 weight parts of propylene glycol, 16 weight parts of glycerol, 2.4 weight parts of surfactant (prepared by Tween 80 and glycerol monooleate in a weight ratio of 1: 9) , 5 weight parts of mango flavor, and 2 weight parts of nicotine salt were added therein and stirred well, to complete preparation of the core material.

[0140] 5 weight parts of carrageenan and 3 weight parts of gellan gum were put into 82 weight parts of purified water, and heated at a temperature of 60℃ to 90℃ while stirring, to form a uniform solution. And then, 10 weight parts of glycerol was added and stirred well, to prepare a shell liquid.

[0141] The core material (inner layer) and the shell liquid were dropped into a liquid coolant (Medium-Chain Triglycerides, MCT) through a concentric dropper at a temperature controlled at 10℃ to 25℃, to form a wet capsule. Then, the wet capsule was stored at -10℃to 10℃ for 10 hours, and dried at 20℃ to 30℃ and 20%to 50%humidity, to prepare a capsule article with a particle size of 2 mm and a shell thickness of 70 μm.

[0142] The aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure may have different manufacturing methods according to different structures.

[0143] For example, one manufacturing method is as follows: preparing a paper tube with an outer diameter of 9.0 mm and a length of 45 mm, and a bottom end is sealed. Vent holes are formed in an area 10mm away from the sealed end. Then, 0.2g aerosol generating capsule is filled from an open end, and 28mm hollow acetate fiber filter rod is filled.

[0144] For example, one manufacturing method is as follows: preparing a paper tube with an outer diameter of 9.0 mm and a length of 45 mm, and two ends are not sealed. Vent holes are formed in an area 10mm away from an end of the tube. Then, 7mm acetate fiber rod, 0.2g aerosol generating capsule, and 23mm hollow acetate fiber filter rod are filled in sequence.

[0145] When preparing the aerosol generating article according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, different tastes and suction effects can be achieved by adjusting parameters such as the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment, the void volume fraction and particle size of the aerosol generating capsules to meet the needs and experiences of different smoking populations.

[0146] In order to further verify the smoking experience of products with different design parameters, some related tests are conducted as follows.

[0147] (1) Comparison test of taste and draw resistance for the aerosol generating substrate segments having different lengths

[0148] The diameter of the aerosol generating capsules ranges from 1.5 mm to 2 mm, the total length of the aerosol generating substrate segment and the filter segment is 38 mm, the length of the limiting part is 7 mm, and the total length of the aerosol generating article is 45 mm. By adjusting the length of the aerosol generating article CA (filter segment) and the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment of the aerosol generating article, different aerosol generating articles are obtained. The experimental results of the draw resistance and suction taste of different aerosol generating articles corresponding to different parameters are shown in Table 1.

[0149] Table 1

[0150] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0151] (2) Comparison test of draw resistance and taste for the aerosol generating capsules having different filling height ratios

[0152] The filling height ratio refers to the ratio of the loose packing height of the stacked aerosol generating capsules to the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment when the aerosol generating article is placed in a vertical direction. The filling height ratio is determined by the filling amount of the aerosol generating capsules. The smaller the filling amount, the smaller the filling height ratio.

[0153] The length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10mm, and different amounts of aerosol generating capsules are filled to verify a relationship between the filling amount of the aerosol generating capsules and the draw resistance, smoke amount and sensory evaluation of the aerosol generating article. The experimental results are shown in Table 2 below.

[0154] Table 2

[0155] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0156] (3) Comparison test of taste for the aerosol generating capsules having different particle sizes

[0157] The filling height ratio is 80%, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10 mm, and the aerosol generating capsules having different particle sizes are filled. The experimental results of the draw resistance, smoke amount and sensory evaluation are shown in Table 3 below.

[0158] Table 3

[0159] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0160] (4) comparison test of taste for the aerosol generating substrate segments having different vent holes

[0161] Two groups of aerosol generating articles adopt the same structural design parameters, and the aerosol generating substrate segment is filled with the aerosol generating capsules of the same particle size and quantity. The filling height ratio is the same. The difference is that the first group of aerosol generating articles does not have vent holes on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment, while the second group of aerosol generating articles has 21 vent holes with a diameter of 0.08mm at a position 5mm away from the end on the tube corresponding to the aerosol generating substrate segment.

[0162] The above two groups of aerosol generating articles are tested regarding draw resistance testing and sensory evaluation. The test data are shown in Table 4:

[0163] Table 4

[0164] In above test, regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0165] (5) Comparison test for thermally conductive materials of the tube

[0166] Using the same heating device and heating temperature, the smoke amount and sensory evaluation of the tube with or without the thermally conductive material and different aerosol generating materials (capsules, tobacco granules) are shown below.

[0167] The length of the aerosol generating article is 45 mm, the length of the aerosol generating substrate segment is 10 mm, the particle size of the aerosol generating capsules and tobacco granules is 1.5 mm -2 mm, and the filling height ratio is 80%.

[0168] According to above sample parameters, the samples are heated and tested, and the experimental results of this experimental test are shown in Table 5 below:

[0169] Table 5

[0170] Score description: regarding smoke amount, aroma quality, stability, satisfaction, aftertaste and oral residue, the best score is 10 points, and the worst score is 0 points.

[0171] From the test data in Table 5, it can be seen that compared with using tobacco granules and the thermally conductive layer in the tube, using capsules and the thermally conductive layer in the tube can achieve better smoke emission and sensory experience.

[0172] The smoke concentration test is conducted using an electronic cigarette smoking machine, and the results are shown in Table 6 below.

[0173] Table 6

[0174] The above conclusion can be further verified through the test results of the experimental instruments mentioned above.
