AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing circuit breakers struggle with high currents and inductances in the expanding charging infrastructure, requiring larger dimensions that are economically unviable, and existing solutions like fusible links and pyrotechnic disconnectors face issues with space requirements and arc detection complexity.

Method used

A compact current separator design with a safety conductor arranged around a central cavity, featuring multiple radially movable separating elements within extinguishing agent beds, allowing for efficient disconnection of the fuse conductor without increasing overall height, and incorporating extinguishing agent beds to manage arcs.

Benefits of technology

The design effectively manages high currents and arcs while maintaining compactness, ensuring efficient disconnection and arc extinction without significant space increase, supporting cost-effective manufacturing and scalability.

Abstract

The current breaker has a central cavity (2), wherein a main conductor passes through this central cavity (2) and a separating piston can be moved in this central cavity by triggering a detonator, with the result that the main conductor is severed by the separating piston after the detonator has been triggered. The current breaker also has a fuse conductor (5) connected electrically in parallel with the main conductor. According to the invention, the fuse conductor (5) is fitted around the central cavity (2) of the current breaker, and at least one separating element (4) is provided for separating the fuse conductor (5) after the main conductor has been separated, with preferably two, four or eight separating elements (4) being provided, which are uniformly distributed over a periphery around the central cavity (2). The separating points of the fuse conductor (5) can be located in an extinguishing agent bed (8) and / or at the edge of an extinguishing agent bed (8'). According to one embodiment, the separating elements (4) can be moved radially in relation to the central cavity (2) and are driven by the movement of the separating piston. For this purpose, the separating elements (4) project into the central cavity (2) and have an oblique surface (3) there.
