[0035] In an embodiment, the specific weight ratio of the combined components B1 and B4 to the combined components B2 and B3 [ (B1 + B4) to (B2 + B3) ] ranges from 2: 1 to 8: 1.

[0036] Component A or Component B in the two-component polyurethane adhesive may comprise at least one catalyst selected from a variety of amines and organometallic compounds. These catalysts include triethylamine, tributylamine, dimethylbenzylamine, N-ethyl-, N-methyl-, N-cyclohexylmorpholine, dimethylcyclohexylamine, dimorpholinodiethylether, 2- (dimethylaminoethoxy) -ethanol, 1, 4-diazabicyclo [2, 2, 2] octane, 1-azabicyclo [3, 3, 0] octane, N, N, N’ , N’ -tetramethyl ethylenediamine, N, N, N’ , N’ -tetramethyl butanediamine, N, N, N’ , N’ -tetramethyl hexane-1, 6-diamine, pentamethyl diethylenetriamine, tetramethyl diaminoethylether, bis- (dimethylaminopropyl) -urea, N, N’ -dimethylpiperazine, 1, 2-dimethylimidazole, di- (4-N, N-dimethylaminocyclohexyl) methane, organometallic compounds, and combinations thereof.

[0038] The two-component polyurethane adhesive according to an embodiment of the present invention may include mixing Component A and Component B in a volume ratio in the range of 1: 0.8 to 1: 1.2, or in some embodiments the volume ratio is 1: 1. The components are combined in a clean mixing container and blended thoroughly using a mechanical mixer to ensure a homogeneous mixture. The adhesive is then applied to the substrates within the open time, ensuring an even application for a consistent bond line. The substrates are positioned and clamped as needed to maintain alignment during curing.

[0039] In one embodiment, the two-component polyurethane adhesive is specifically designed for bonding various dissimilar substrate materials suitable, which may be beneficial, for example, for display screen assemblies, particularly in automotive and IoT applications.

[0040] In some applications, the substrate herein includes ink-glass, magnesium / aluminum alloy (Mg / Al alloy, or 2024-T3 Al alloy) and a blend of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) (together PC / ABS) .

[0041] The adhesive typically cures at room temperature, developing its full mechanical properties over several hours to days, depending on the specific formulation and environmental conditions.

[0042] However, the preparation method of the two-component polyurethane adhesive is ideal for modules in automotive applications, such as display screens, due to its high bonding strength, low modulus across a wide temperature range, and excellent environmental resistance. As used herein, the term “low modulus” refers to less than or equal to 500MPa generally, and less than or equal to 450MPa, 400MPa, 375MPa, 350MPa, or even 300MPa in some applications.

[0043] It cures at room temperature, simplifying the assembly process and reducing costs. This new 2K PU adhesive is also suitable for IoT and other automotive applications requiring flexible bonding of dissimilar materials. Examples

[0044] Objects and advantages of this disclosure are further illustrated by the following non-limiting examples, but the particular materials and amounts thereof recited in these examples, as well as other conditions and details, should not be construed to unduly limit this disclosure.

[0045] Part I: Sample Preparation

[0046] The present invention submission is now illustrated by the following examples. Unless otherwise specified, all parts are on a weight basis. Table 1: Materials

[0047] Component A was prepared by reacting diisocyanate with polyol at 60-80℃and further adding other ingredients, or by mixing polyisocyanate with prepolymer and other ingredients. The mixture was further dispersed and degassed under vacuum to get a homogenous solution.

[0048] Component B was prepared by adding ingredients in sequence and dispersing with the planetary mixer under vacuum condition to get a homogenous solution.

[0049] Component A and Component B were filled into a 50ml 1: 1 dual-pack cartridge, thoroughly mixed and dispensed through a mixing nozzle for further testing.

[0050] Part II: Testing Procedure

[0051] Overlap Shear Strength:

[0052] Overlap Shear Strength (OLS) is a measure of the adhesive’s ability to resist shear forces, which are parallel to the bonded surfaces. It provides an indication of the adhesive’s performance under stress conditions that are typical in many practical applications.

[0053] OLS Test Procedure:

[0054] Standard: The OLS test was conducted following ASTM D1002, a standard test method for determining the shear strength of adhesives using a single lap joint.

[0055] Substrates: The substrates used in the test were 2024-T3 Al alloy (Al) and PC / ABS. Substrate surface could be pretreated accordingly.

[0056] Curing Conditions: The adhesive samples were cured at room temperature, allowing the adhesive to develop its full mechanical properties under ambient conditions.

[0057] Modulus:

[0058] Modulus, often referred to as the elastic modulus or Young’s modulus, is a measure of a material’s stiffness or rigidity. It quantifies the material’s resistance to deformation under an applied force.

[0059] After mixing the two-component polyurethane adhesive, the mixture was dispensed onto a release film to create a thin film sample and then cured at room temperature. The modulus of the cured adhesive was measured using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) at a ramp rate of 5℃ per minute.

[0060] As shown in Table 2, in general, experimental examples show low modulus (for example, less than 500MPa) at low temperature (-40℃ as tested) with good bonding performance on different substrates. For example, Ex. 3 shows relatively low modulus 278.5MPa at -40℃, and Ex. 4 shows good strength on aluminum, aluminum with PC / ABS, and PC / ABS. Relative to the comparative examples, experimental examples show balanced performance on bonding strength and modulus.
