Abstract
The present invention relates to a reducing agent, comprising: a sulfinate of formula I, wherein R1 is H or C1-C6 hydrocarbyl, R2 is C1-C6 hydrocarbyl or M', and M and M' are each independently at least one monovalent cation or a combination with at least one multivalent cation; and optionally, urea or a urea derivative. The reducing agent contains essentially no sulfonic acid or sulfonate. In addition, the present invention relates to a preparation method for the reducing agent. The reducing agent can effectively improve the properties of a polymerization product when used for emulsion polymerization and preparation of a water-soluble polymer.
