AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

There is a growing need to develop acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resins that have properties equivalent to or better than conventional resins while using biomass raw materials to reduce environmental impact, particularly in emulsion polymerization processes where beef tallow fatty acids are traditionally used as emulsifiers.

Method used

A resin composition containing an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS resin) with specific higher fatty acids or their salts, such as lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, and linoleic acid, is formulated to improve fluidity, heat resistance, and moldability, using plant-derived higher fatty acids or their salts to reduce environmental impact.

Benefits of technology

The resin composition achieves improved fluidity, heat resistance, and moldability while reducing carbon dioxide emissions, with enhanced impact resistance and chemical resistance, suitable for various applications.

Abstract

[Problem] To provide a resin composition containing an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)-based resin having characteristics equal to or higher than those of conventional resins. [Solution] One aspect of the present invention provides a resin composition containing an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene-based copolymer (ABS-based resin), a first higher fatty acid having 12 to 14 carbon atoms, or a salt thereof, and a second higher fatty acid having 16 to 18 carbon atoms, or a salt thereof. The content of the first higher fatty acid or a salt thereof is less than 5,000 ppm and the content of the second higher fatty acid or a salt thereof is less than 12,000 ppm.
