Description

Cosmetic composition containing oil capsules

[0001] This patent application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2024-0174295 filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office on November 29, 2024, the disclosures of said patent application are incorporated herein by reference.

[0002] The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising gellan gum, metal ions, and oil capsules.

[0003] Unlike in the past when rich and nourishing toners were preferred, there is now a rising preference for toners that offer moderate hydration and nourishment while providing a refreshing feel and convenient application. Consequently, there is an increasing trend of product lines that utilize convenient spraying methods, such as mist or aerosol types.

[0004] However, since this spray type is not easy to use when the viscosity of the contents is high, as the spray angle narrows, the formulation is generally limited to liquid contents with almost no viscosity.

[0005] Recently, research on sprayable gel-type cosmetics has been actively conducted. However, general gel-type compositions have a characteristic of not easily changing shape even when pressure and shear force are applied, making it difficult to spread evenly in the form of small particles when sprayed. As a result, most gel-type sprayable compositions have limitations in providing uniform moisture to the skin.

[0006] Meanwhile, along with the recent rise of functional cosmetics in the market, there is an increasing demand for visual aesthetics and differentiated user experiences. Reflecting this emotional demand, there are ongoing attempts to provide users with visual pleasure, aesthetic sensibility, and the joy of makeup by modifying the unique shapes, colors, or textures of bead formulations.

[0007] However, conventional cosmetic compositions using capsules can only be implemented as high-viscosity cosmetic compositions such as creams, gels, pastes, and balms, and there were limitations in implementing them as low-viscosity cosmetic compositions such as toners and lotions.

[0008] Accordingly, various studies have been attempted regarding low-viscosity cosmetic compositions incorporating capsules; however, when capsules are applied to low-viscosity cosmetic compositions, problems have arisen where the capsules are not stably supported within the formulation and tend to sink or float. Furthermore, even if the capsules are temporarily dispersed within the cosmetic composition, there have been issues where they are not uniformly dispersed or fail to maintain their dispersed state for an extended period, instead sinking or floating.

[0009] Accordingly, there is a need for the development of cosmetic compositions that can be formed with low viscosity, enabling the realization of various formulations, while also possessing excellent capsule dispersibility and dispersion stability.

[0010] The inventors have completed the present invention regarding a cosmetic composition in which oil capsules are stably dispersed for a long period even in a low-viscosity liquid phase using gellan gum, and by utilizing this, it is possible to provide a cosmetic composition comprising capsules containing active ingredients such as moisturizing ingredients, and visual differentiation is possible through the capsules within the composition.

[0011] Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to provide a cosmetic composition comprising gellan gum, metal ions, and oil capsules.

[0057]

[0058] Experimental Example 1. Comparison of Capsule Dispersion and Stability in Cosmetics According to Thickener

[0059] To confirm the differences in capsule dispersion and stability within the cosmetic according to the type of thickener, cosmetic compositions containing oil capsules were prepared with different types of thickeners as shown in Table 1.

[0060] Ingredient Name Example 1 Comparative Example 1 Comparative Example 2 Comparative Example 3 Comparative Example 4 Comparative Example 5 Comparative Example 6 Purified Water To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 Gellan Gum 0.1------Xanthan Gum-0.1-----Hydroxyethyl Cellulose--0.1----Cellulose Gum---0.1---Acrylate / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer----0.1--Carbomer-----0.1-Ammonium Acryloyl Dimethyl Taurate / VP Copolymer------0.1 Calcium Chloride 0.1------Disodium EDTA 0.020.020.020.020.020.020.02 Citric Acid 0.010 .010.010.01--0.01 Sodium Citrate 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05--0.05 Tromethamine ----0.08 0.08-Glycerin 3333333 Butylene Glycol 44444441,2-Hexanediol 2222222 Ethylhexylglycerin 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 Octyldodeces-16 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.30.3 Fragrance 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 0.05 Capsule (Acrylate 0.8~1.2mm) 2222222

[0061] The raw materials of the thickeners and water-soluble components in Table 1 were uniformly mixed using a homomixer at 5,000 rpm for 5 minutes at 80–85°C. Then, after cooling to room temperature, the pre-mixed surfactant and fragrance were added, followed by additional mixing at 5,000 rpm for 5 minutes. After undergoing a degassing process, capsules were added to prepare each composition.

[0062] Each thickening agent was added at a content of 0.1 wt%, and the capsule was prepared by including caprylic / capric triglyceride as an oil-soluble component in the inner phase of a capsule made of an acrylate / C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer outer membrane, and the capsule size used was 0.8 to 1.2 mm in diameter.

[0063] In the case of Comparative Examples 4 and 5, tromethamine was used as a pH adjuster for viscosity formation due to the characteristics of the thickener used.

[0064] The capsule dispersion of the prepared compositions was checked, and compositions with good dispersion were selected. The viscosity and spray angle of the selected compositions were measured, and the results of comparing long-term stability by storing them at 50°C for one week or in a south-facing location with sunlight for two weeks are shown in Table 2.

[0065] Example 1 Comparative Example 1 Comparative Example 2 Comparative Example 3 Comparative Example 4 Comparative Example 5 Comparative Example 6 Capsule Dispersibility Possible Impossible Impossible Possible Impossible Viscosity (cps) 520---440 530- Dispensing Angle (°) 79---42 62- Capsule Dispersion Stability (50℃, 1 week) Stable---Separable- Sunlight Stability (South-facing, 2 weeks) Stable---Separable-

[0066] The compositions of Comparative Examples 1, 2, 3, and 6 were unsuitable for containing capsules in the composition because the dispersion of the capsules did not occur uniformly. Although the compositions of Comparative Examples 4 and 5 showed good dispersion of capsules immediately after preparation, separation of the capsules and the composition occurred when stored at 50°C for one week and when stored under sunlight exposure conditions for two weeks, making it impossible to ensure stability during long-term storage.

[0067] On the other hand, the composition of Example 1 using gellan gum had capsules uniformly dispersed throughout the composition, and the spray angle was also excellent compared to Comparative Examples 1 to 6. It was confirmed that the capsules did not separate when stored at 50°C for one week and when stored under sunlight exposure conditions for two weeks, making it suitable for long-term storage.

[0068]

[0069] Experimental Example 2. Comparison of Capsule Dispersion and User Sensibility in Cosmetics According to Gellan Gum Content

[0070] To compare capsule dispersion and feel according to gellan gum content, cosmetic compositions were prepared as shown in Table 3.

[0074] The composition of Comparative Example 7 showed good dispersion of the capsule immediately after preparation, but when stored at 50°C for one month, separation of the capsule and the composition occurred, making it unsuitable for use as a spray composition.

[0075] Sensory evaluations regarding the overall user experience, including spray power, moisture sensation, and moisturizing sensation, were conducted on 10 people for compositions excluding Comparative Example 7 and are shown in Table 5. At this time, the sensory evaluation was evaluated on a maximum of 5 points, and a score of 3 points or higher was judged to indicate excellent user experience.

[0076] Ingredient Name Example 2 Example 1 Example 3 Example 4 Comparative Example 8 Comparative Example 9 Spray Power (Comprehensive evaluation of spray angle, spray particle size, and adhesion) 4.5 4.6 3.1 2.4 1.9 1.6 Moisture Sense 4.3 4.2 3.3 3.1 2.5 2.2 Hydrating Sense 3.5 3.8 3.5 3.6 3.5 3.4 Overall User Experience 4.2 4.5 4.1 3.2 2.9 2.2

[0077] The compositions of Comparative Examples 8 and 9 had excessively high viscosity, resulting in relatively poor spraying power and moisture sensation. On the other hand, the compositions of Examples 1 to 4, containing 0.05 to 0.4 weight% of gellan gum, were produced with a viscosity suitable for spraying, and it was confirmed that the moisture sensation and moisturizing sensation were also excellent.

[0082] A cosmetic composition was prepared in the same manner as in Experimental Example 1, except for the type and size of the capsules. Two types of capsules were used: an acrylate / C30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer capsule and a hydrolyzed collagen capsule. The capsule dispersion and spray angles were compared according to the capsule diameter ranges of 0.2–0.6 mm, 0.8–1.2 mm, and 1.5–2.0 mm, and are shown in Table 7.

[0084] It was confirmed that the capsules were well dispersed in all compositions of Example 1 and Examples 5 to 9, and through a spray test, it was confirmed that a sufficient spray angle of about 70° or more was obtained.

[0085] However, the compositions of Examples 8 and 9 had relatively large capsule sizes, so nozzle jamming occurred during spraying.

[0086]

[0087] Experimental Example 4. Comparison of Capsule Dispersion and Spray Angle in Cosmetics According to Capsule Content

[0088] To compare capsule dispersion and spray angle of the cosmetic according to the oil capsule content, cosmetic compositions were prepared with different capsule contents as shown in Table 8.

[0089] Ingredient Name Example 10 Example 5 Example 11 Example 12 Example 13 Purified Water To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 To 100 Gellan Gum 0.10.10.10.10.1 Calcium Chloride 0.10.10.10.10.1 Disodium EDTA 0.020.020.020.020.02 Citric Acid 0.010.010.010.010.01 Sodium Citrate 0.050.050.050.050.05 Glycerin 33333 Butylene Glycol 44444 1,2-Hexanediol 22222 Ethylhexylglycerin 0.050.050.050.050.05 Octyldodeceth-16 0.30.30.30.30.3 Fragrance 0.050.050.050.050.05 Capsule (Acrylate, 0.2~0.6mm) 12345

[0090] A cosmetic composition was prepared using the same method as in Experimental Example 1, except for the capsule content. The capsule used was an acrylate / C30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer capsule with a diameter of 0.2–0.6 mm, which showed the best efficacy in Experimental Example 3. The capsule dispersion and spray angle were compared by adding different amounts ranging from 1 to 5 weight%. Additionally, a sensory evaluation of the user experience was conducted on 10 subjects, and the comparison results are shown in Table 9. The sensory evaluation was performed on a scale of 10 points.

[0091] Ingredient Name Example 10 Example 5 Example 11 Example 12 Example 13 Capsule Dispersible Possible Possible Possible Spray Angle (°) 8 1 8 0 7 5 7 1 6 9 Specifics ---- Nozzle jamming User Experience Satisfaction 9.0 9.2 8.2 7.5 6.8

[0092] It was confirmed that the capsules were well dispersed in all compositions of Example 5 and Examples 10 to 13, which contained 1 to 5 weight percent of capsules, and through a spray test, it was confirmed that a sufficient spray angle of about 70° or more was obtained.

[0093] The composition of Example 13, containing 5% by weight of capsules, had a relatively high capsule content, which caused nozzle jamming during spraying, whereas the composition of Example 5, containing 2% by weight of capsules, had a superior spray angle and feel compared to other compositions.

[0094]

[0095] Experimental Example 5. Evaluation of Stability and Spray Power

[0096] Stability and spray power were further evaluated using the composition of Example 5 (0.1 wt% gellan gum, 0.2-0.6 mm acrylate / C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer capsule 2 wt%), which had the best spray angle and feel of use through Experimental Examples 1 to 4 above.

[0097] As can be seen in Fig. 1a, the composition of Example 5 had oil capsules very uniformly dispersed within the composition, and the spraying power was also excellent.

[0098] In addition, to confirm stability when stored for a long period, the composition of Example 5 was stored in a constant temperature bath at 4°C, 25°C, and 50°C under sunlight conditions, and after 3 months, it was confirmed whether the capsules were uniformly dispersed.

[0099] As can be seen in Fig. 1b, it was confirmed that the oil capsules of the composition of Example 5 were very uniformly dispersed under all conditions even after 3 months.

[0100]

[0101] Experimental Example 6. Evaluation of moisturizing ability

[0102] To confirm the moisturizing power of the oil capsule, the cosmetic composition of Example 5 and the composition of Comparative Example 10, which does not contain oil capsules, were prepared as shown in Table 10, and the moisturizing effects of the two compositions were compared.

[0103] Ingredient Name Example 5 Comparative Example 10 Purified Water To 100 To 100 Gellan Gum 0.1 0.1 Calcium Chloride 0.1 0.1 Disodium EDTA 0.02 0.02 Citric Acid 0.01 0.01 Sodium Citrate 0.05 0.05 Glycerin 3 3 Butylene Glycol 4 4 1,2-Hexanediol 2 2 Ethylhexylglycerin 0.05 0.05 Octyldodeceth-16 0.3 0.3 Fragrance 0.05 0.05 Capsule (Acrylate, 0.2~0.6 mm) 2-

[0104] Specifically, the test area was washed with soap and then left in a constant temperature and humidity room (22±2℃, 40–60 RH) for 10 minutes. Afterward, each composition was sprayed onto the test area 5 times, and after 10 minutes, the skin moisture level of the test area was compared to before use. The above process was repeated 3 times for each, and the average of the measured values was calculated and is shown in Table 11.

[0105] Before Use (AU) After Use (AU) Increase Example 55.60 38.536 88% Comparative Example 105.56 19.283 46%

[0106] As can be seen in Figure 2, when the composition of Example 5 was applied to the test site, the skin moisture level increased significantly, whereas in the case of the composition of Comparative Example 10, the skin moisture level increased, but did not reach the amount of increase of Example 5.

[0107] The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising gellan gum, metal ions, and oil capsules. By including oil capsules, active ingredients such as moisturizing ingredients can be contained within the composition, and a cosmetic composition capable of visual differentiation by means of capsules can be provided.
