Abstract

A forward design method for a dual rotary head configuration of a five-axis machine tool, comprising: generating tool paths on the basis of a workpiece to be machined, and extracting a tool path orientation set; performing Gaussian mapping on the tool path orientation set, so that representation in a Gaussian sphere in discrete points is achieved; identifying boundary points in the discrete points and connecting the boundary points to form a continuous orientation region; determining whether a vertex of the Gaussian sphere is comprised in the continuous orientation region, using an included angle between a first rotating shaft member and a second rotating shaft member and an included angle between the second rotating shaft member and a cutter axis as inter-axis angles, and calculating a feasible region of the inter-axis angles by means of the continuous orientation region; and then setting the relationships between the inter-axis angles and two translation vectors, so as to achieve the zero turning radius design of a dual rotary head of a machine tool and elimination of nonlinear errors. Considering the machining requirements of complex curved surface workpieces, forward design is performed on a feasible region of inter-axis angles of a dual rotary head configuration of a five-axis machine tool and the relationship between translation vectors, and the present invention has the advantages of precise reachability of tool path orientation during curved surface machining, elimination of nonlinear errors, avoidance of translational axis compensation, and the like.
