Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a configuration method, apparatus and system for sensing indication. The method includes monitoring a first indication. The first indication indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, and the sensing signaling indicates sensing information. By monitoring the first indication, the terminal device can wake up for monitoring the sensing signaling when it is expected to be present, allowing for an efficient execution of sensing tasks instead of monitoring during every possible occasion.

Description

CONFIGURATION METHOD AND RELATED APPARATUSES FOR SENSING INDICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of communication technologies, and in particular, to a configuration method and related apparatuses for sensing indication.BACKGROUND

[0002] With the large-scale popularization of Internet applications and wireless network devices, people’s demand for wireless communication further increases. Communications technologies are also evolving, from 4G to 5G to next-generation communications. The communication spectrum ranges from low to high frequency bands such as decimeter wave, centimeter wave, millimeter wave, terahertz. With increased frequency, a higher number of antennas and larger bandwidth can be used for wireless transmission and reception. These are not only beneficial for communication, but also for sensing. Wireless sensing as a new technology including a wide range of applications such as object detection, ranging, positioning, tracking, imaging, etc., is gaining popularity.

[0003] 5G supports large bandwidth spectrum for throughput enhancement. However, the higher throughput also increases energy consumption for user equipment (UE) , potentially shortening battery life. In order to reduce power consumption, 5G supports both downlink control information (DCI) based wake-up signal (WUS) and sequence-based WUS for UE power saving. The WUS can be transmitted before a time offset of discontinuous reception (DRX) ON time duration. If a WUS is received, the UE will monitor the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) in the following DRX ON duration. Otherwise, the UE will skip the entire DRX ON duration and continue in a sleep state, thus minimizing the energy consumption. The WUS can also be transmitted before a paging occasion (PO) . For this case, the WUS can be a kind of paging early indication (PEI) DCI. If the WUS indicates a valid PO for a UE, the UE will monitor the PDCCH in the PO. Otherwise, the UE will remain in the sleep state with a reduced power consumption. To further reduce power consumption, 5G has also introduced a separate wake-up receiver (WUR) . When the UE monitors a low power (LP) WUS using a WUR, the main radio (MR) is in the sleep state, and therefore the power consumption is reduced. Once the WUS is received with the WUR, the UE can wake up the MR for PDCCH monitoring.

[0004] This background information is provided to reveal information believed by the applicant to be of possible relevance to the present disclosure. No admission is necessarily intended, nor should be construed, that any one of the preceding information constitutes prior art against the present disclosure.SUMMARY

[0005] In a first aspect, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a method is provided. The method can be a configuration method. The method includes: monitoring a first indication, wherein the first indication indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, where the sensing signaling indicates sensing information.

[0006] By monitoring the first indication, the terminal device can wake up for monitoring the sensing signaling when it is expected to be present, allowing for more efficient execution of sensing tasks instead of monitoring in every possible occasion. In this way, the terminal device simply needs to detect sensing signaling in sensing occasion (s) , therefore power consumption is reduced. The first indication can guide the terminal device to detect sensing signaling in a sensing occasion, and power consumption is reduced.

[0007] In an implementation of the first aspect, when the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the method includes detecting the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions.

[0008] In an implementation of the first aspect, when the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is not present in the one or more first occasions, the method includes skipping a detection of the sensing signaling.

[0009] In an implementation of the first aspect, at least one of a starting time of a second occasion, a period of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time is configured. The second occasion is an occasion during which the first indication is monitored. Configurations of the starting time, period, or time offset of the second occasion can ensure that the terminal device’s sensing operations are synchronized with the network’s timing, which is beneficial for effective sensing and data collection.

[0010] In an implementation of the first aspect, at least one of a starting time of the one or more first occasions, a period of the one or more first occasions or a first time offset of the one or more first occasions relative to a reference time is configured.

[0011] In an implementation of the first aspect, the first time offset is an offset between a second occasion during which the first indication is monitored and each of the one or more first occasions. By configuring the time offset between a first indication and the corresponding first occasion, the network device can precisely indicate the timing of one or more first occasions.

[0012] In an implementation of the first aspect, the first time offset is indicated by the first indication. In this way, these configurations can be allowed to be configured flexibility, and the sensing operations can be managed dynamically based on current conditions and requirements.

[0013] In an implementation of the first aspect, the first indication is one of: sensing early indication (SEI) ; sensing paging early indication (S-PEI) , where the S-PEI further indicates whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions, and an offset between a respective paging occasion of the one or more paging occasions and a corresponding first occasion; or a wake-up signal (WUS) . Different types of indications (SEI, S-PEI, WUS) can be used to provide flexibility in network management, which can allow the network to adapt to different scenarios and requirements.

[0014] In an implementation of the first aspect, a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the SEI is scrambled with a sensing radio network temporary identification (SE-RNTI) . Scrambling the CRC with SE-RNTI can ensure that the SEI message is uniquely identified and secure. The terminal device can use the SE-RNTI to descramble the CRC of the SEI and verify the integrity of the SEI message, which can enhance the reliability of SEI message transmission.

[0015] In an implementation of the first aspect, a payload size of the SEI aligns with a payload size of a paging early indication (PEI) , where the PEI indicates whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions. When the payload size of SEI aligns with that of the PEI, the terminal device can perform a single blind detection attempt at a location where either or both indications may be present, and the terminal device can differentiate between the SEI and the PEI based on their respective RNTIs. Therefore, the blind detection can be reduced when the SEI and the PEI coexist.

[0016] In an implementation of the first aspect, the WUS is a low power wake-up signal (LP-WUS) . The power consumption can be reduced with LP-WUS indicating whether sensing signaling is present in one or more sensing occasions.

[0017] In an implementation of the first aspect, the method further includes monitoring a second indication, where the second indication indicates whether the first indication is present in a second occasion.

[0018] In an implementation of the first aspect, the method further includes when the second indication indicates that the first indication is present in the second occasion, monitoring the first indication in the second occasion.

[0019] In an implementation of the first aspect, the first indication is SEI and the second indication is a wake-up signal (WUS) , or S-PEI, where the S-PEI further indicates whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions.

[0025] In an implementation of the first aspect, the method further includes when the qualification requirement is not met, skipping monitoring the first indication. If the terminal device does not meet the qualification requirement, the terminal device may not participate in the sensing task, which can prevent the terminal device from wasting resources on processing sensing tasks for which it is not qualified.

[0026] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing signaling includes a first downlink control information (DCI) part and a second DCI part, the first DCI part indicates scheduling information of the second DCI part, and the second DCI part indicates the sensing information. If the terminal device does not meet the qualification requirement, the terminal device may not decode the second DCI part, which can prevent the terminal device from wasting resources on processing sensing tasks for which it is not qualified.

[0027] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing information includes first configuration information required for sensing measurement and / or second configuration information for sensing reporting.

[0029] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing method includes at least one of a sensing mode, an angle-based measurement method, a time-based measurement method, a velocity-based measurement method or a phase-based measurement method.

[0030] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing mode includes at least one of a bistatic mode, a monostatic mode or a combination of a bistatic mode and a monostatic mode.

[0031] In an implementation of the first aspect, a qualification requirement is indicated by the sensing signaling.

[0032] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing signaling includes a first DCI part and a second DCI part, the first DCI part indicates scheduling information of the second DCI part and the qualification requirement, and the second part indicates the sensing information.

[0033] In an implementation of the first aspect, the method further includes: when the qualification requirement is met, obtaining the second DCI part based on the scheduling information of the second DCI part; when the qualification requirement is not met, skipping obtaining the second DCI part. If the terminal device does not meet the qualification requirement, the terminal device may not decode the second DCI part, which can prevent the terminal device from wasting resources on processing sensing tasks for which it is not qualified.

[0034] In an implementation of the first aspect, a qualification requirement is indicated by the first indication.

[0035] In an implementation of the first aspect, the method further includes: when the qualification requirement is not met, skipping a detection of the sensing signaling.

[0036] In an implementation of the first aspect, the qualification requirement includes at least one of: reference signal received power of the first indication being higher than a threshold; or a supported bandwidth being higher than a threshold.

[0040] In an implementation of the first aspect, the sensing signaling is DCI carried on a sensing physical downlink control channel (SePDCCH) .

[0041] In a second aspect, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a method is provided. The method includes: transmitting a first indication, where the first indication indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, where the sensing signaling indicates sensing information.

[0042] The network device transmits the first indication during the second occasion, and the terminal device can wake up for monitoring the sensing signaling when it is expected to be present, allowing for more efficient execution of sensing tasks instead of monitoring in every possible occasion. In this way, the terminal device simply needs to detect sensing signaling in sensing occasion (s) , therefore power consumption is reduced. The first indication can guide the terminal device to detect sensing signaling in a sensing occasion, and power consumption is reduced.

[0043] In an implementation of the second aspect, when the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the method includes transmitting the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions.

[0044] In an implementation of the second aspect, at least one of a starting time of a second occasion, a period of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time is configured. Configurations of the starting time, period, or time offset of the second occasion can ensure that the terminal device’s sensing operations are synchronized with the network’s timing, which is beneficial for effective sensing and data collection.

[0055] In an implementation of the second aspect, where the WUS is a low power wake-up signal (LP-WUS) .

[0056] In an implementation of the second aspect, at least one of a starting time of a third occasion, a period of the third occasion or a third time offset of the third occasion relative to a reference time is configured. The third occasion is an occasion in which the second indication is detected. Configurations of the starting time, period, or time offset of the third occasion can ensure that the terminal device’s sensing operations are synchronized with the network’s timing, which is beneficial for effective sensing and data collection.

[0057] In an implementation of the second aspect, the third time offset is an offset between the second occasion and a third occasion in which the second indication is detected.

[0116] In addition, the communication system 100 may comprise a sensing agent (not shown) to manage the sensed data from ED 110 and / or any one of TRPs 170 a-170b, 172. In one implementation, the sensing agent may be part of any one of TRPs 170 a-b, 172. In another implementation, the sensing agent is a separate node that can communicate with the CN 130 and / or the RAN 120 (e.g., any one of TRPs 170 a-b, 172) .

[0117] The RAN can be a 3GPP-related cellular system, such as the 5G mobile communication system or future evolution systems (e.g., 6G mobile communication systems) . RAN can also be an open radio access network (O-RAN) , cloud radio access network (CRAN) , or Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) , etc. Additionally, RAN can be a communication system that integrates two or more of the aforementioned systems. The RAN devices can also be referred to as RAN node, RAN entity, or access node, etc.

[0118] In a possible scenario, the RAN node can be a base station, an evolved NodeB (eNodeB) , an access point (AP) , transmission reception point (TRP) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , a next-generation base station in the 6G mobile communication system, a base station in a future mobile communication system, and so on. The RAN node can be a macrocell, microcell, an indoor station, a relay node, a donor / host node, or a wireless controller, etc. The RAN node can also be server, wearable device, vehicle, or vehicular device, etc. For example, in V2X technology, a RAN node can be a roadside unit (RSU) .

[0119] In another possible scenario, the RAN node can be a module or unit that performs part of the base station’s functions; or multiple RAN nodes can collaborate to assist terminal devices in achieving wireless access, with different RAN nodes implementing part of the base station’s functions. For example, the RAN node can be a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , or a radio unit (RU) , etc. The functions of the CU can be implemented by a single entity or by different entities. For instance, the functions of the CU can be further divided, that is, separating the control plane and user plane to be implemented by different entities, namely the control plane CU entity (i.e., CU-Control Plane (CP) entity) and the user plane CU entity (i.e., CU-user plane (UP) entity) . The CU-CP entity and CU-UP entity can be coupled with the DU to jointly complete the functions of the RAN node. The CU and DU can be set up separately or can also be included in the same network element, such as a baseband unit (BBU) .

[0120] In different systems, CU (or CU-CP and CU-UP) , DU, or RU may also have different names, but those skilled in the field can understand their meanings. For example, in an O-RAN system, CU can also be referred to as O-CU (Open CU) , DU can also be referred to as O-DU, CU-CP can also be referred to as O-CU-CP, CU-UP can also be referred to as O-CU-UP, and RU can also be referred to as O-RU. For convenience of description, CU, CU-CP, CU-UP, DU, and RU are used in the present disclosure as examples. Any unit of the CU (or CU-CP, CU-UP) , DU, and RU in the present disclosure can be implemented through software modules, hardware modules, or a combination of software and hardware modules.

[0121] CU and DU can be configured based on protocol layer functions they implement in the wireless network. For example, CU is configured to implement functions of a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer and aforementioned protocol layers (such as a radio resource control (RRC) layer and / or service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) layer, etc. ) . DU is configured to implement the functions of the protocol layers below the PDCP layer (such as the radio link control (RLC) , media access control (MAC) layer, and / or physical (PHY) layer, etc. ) . Alternatively, CU is configured to implement the functions of the protocol layers above the PDCP layer (such as the RRC layer and / or SDAP layer) , and DU is configured to implement the functions of the protocol layers below the PDCP layer (such as the RLC layer, MAC layer, and / or PHY layer, etc. ) . For specific descriptions of the aforementioned protocol layers, reference can be made to the relevant technical specifications of 3GPP or other applicable technical specifications of communication protocols. The division of CU and DU functions according to protocol layers is just an example, and other methods of division are also possible, and this application does not limit it. For example, in one design, CU or DU can also be divided into having partial processing functions of the protocol layer. In one design, part of the functions of the RLC layer and the functions of the protocol layers above the RLC layer are set in the CU, and the remaining functions of the RLC layer and the functions of the protocol layers below the RLC layer are set in the DU.

[0122] FIG. 3 illustrates an example of an apparatus 320 in a communication system (e.g., a future generation network architecture illustrated in FIG. 2) according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The apparatus 320 may be a UE, a network node such as the AN, any components in the AN, the CN or any Network Function of the CN (AMF+, SMF+or any other network functions illustrated in FIG. 2) . As shown in FIG. 3, the apparatus 320 may include at least one processor 260. Only one processor 260 is illustrated to avoid congestion in the drawing. The processor 260 may perform (or control the apparatus 320 to perform) operations (or methods) described herein as being performed by the apparatus 320.

[0123] When the apparatus is the AN, components of the AN or the apparatus is the UE, the apparatus 320 may further include a transmitter 252 and a receiver 254 coupled to one or more antennas. One, some, or all of the antennas may alternatively be panels. The transmitter 252 and the receiver 254 may be integrated, e.g. as a transceiver. The transceiver is configured to modulate data or other content for transmission by at least one antenna or a network interface controller (NIC) . The transceiver is also configured to demodulate data or other content received by the at least one antenna. Each transceiver includes any suitable structure for generating signals for wireless or wired transmission and / or processing signals received wirelessly or by wire. Each antenna includes any suitable structure for transmitting and / or receiving wireless or wired signals. In present disclosure, the transceiver (or transmitter 252 and / or receiver 254) may be viewed as an interface circuit.

[0124] The apparatus 320 may include at least one memory 258. The memory 258 stores instructions used to perform operations described herein. The memory 258 may also store data used, generated, or collected by the apparatus 320. For example, the memory 258 could store software instructions or modules configured to implement some or all of the functionality and / or embodiments described herein and that are executed by the one or more processors 260.

[0125] It should be noted that in present application, “information” , when different from “message” , may be carried in one single message, or be carried in more than one separate message.

[0126] FIG. 4 is a schematic illustration an apparatus in a communication system according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 4 illustrates an example of an apparatus 410. The apparatus 410 may be a communication device or an apparatus implemented in a communication device such as ED 110 or TRPs 170a-170b, 172. For example, the apparatus implemented in a communication device may be an integrated circuit, which in some contexts may be known by other colloquial names, such as chip, modem, modem chip, baseband chip, or baseband processor. In some implementations, one or more integrated circuits can be packaged into a system-on-chip, a system-in-package, or a multi-chip module. The apparatus may comprise one or more integrated circuits or comprise one or more integrated circuits and other discrete components. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module in ED 110, or apparatus 320. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module in one of TRPs 170a-170b, 172, or apparatus 320.

[0127] In an example, the apparatus 410 may include one or more processors / processor cores 411, and an interface circuit 412. The apparatus 410 may further include a memory 413. The one or more processors / processor cores 411 are configured to process signals and execute one or more communication protocols. The memory 413 is configured to store at least a part of corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. In an example, the one or more processors (or processor cores) 411 execute the computer program instructions stored in the memory 413 to implement related operations (for example, inputting, outputting, receiving, and transmitting) in the foregoing method embodiments. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store all of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data for execution by the one or more processors / processor cores 411. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store a part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. For example, the part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data include computer program instructions and / or data that need to be currently executed by the one or more processors / processor cores 411. Thus, the memory 413 may store different parts of computer program instructions and / or data for a plurality times for the one or more processors (or processor cores) 411 to perform related operations in the foregoing method embodiments. As a communication interface, the interface circuit 412 is configured to implement communication with another component. For example, the interface circuit 412 may communicate a signal with other apparatus / system such as a radio frequency processing apparatus, or processor system. Optionally, to reduce a load of the processor core, a baseband signal processing circuit 414 may be also disposed to implement processing of at least a part of baseband signals, including signal demodulation, modulation, encoding, decoding, or the like.

[0128] Apparatus 410 may be processor 260 in apparatus 320, in some scenario, or included in processor 260 in apparatus 320 in some scenario. Apparatus 410 may be or include a baseband chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be independently packaged into a chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 320 includes different types of chips. The apparatus 410 may be packaged into a processor chip (for example, a SoC chip or an SIP chip) with the different types of chips. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be packaged into a chip with some or all of circuits of a radio frequency processing system that may further included in the apparatus 320.

[0129] FIG. 5 is a schematic illustration an apparatus in a communication system according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 5 illustrates example of apparatus 510. Apparatus 510 may include corresponding modules or units configured to implement methods and / or embodiments described herein. In some implementations, the apparatus 510 includes a processing unit 512 and a communication unit 513. Optionally, the apparatus 510 may further include a storage unit 514 configured to store apparatus program code (or instructions) and / or data.

[0130] The apparatus 510 may be an ED side apparatus, for example, an ED or a module in an ED, or a circuit or a chip responsible for a communication function in an ED. In some implementations, apparatus 510 may be implemented as apparatus 320, accordingly, the processing unit 512 is implemented as processor 260, the communication unit 513 is implemented as transmitter 252 and / or receiver 203, and the storage unit 514 is implemented as memory 208.

[0131] The apparatus 510 may be a CN side apparatus or a base station side apparatus, for example, a base station or a module in a base station, or a circuit or a chip responsible for a communication function in a base station. In some implementations, apparatus 510 may be implemented as apparatus 320, accordingly, the processing unit 512 is implemented as processor 260 (the scheduler 253 may also be included) , the communication unit 513 is implemented as transmitter 252 and / or receiver 254, and the storage unit 514 is implemented as memory 258.

[0132] In some implementations, when the apparatus 510 is an ED 110 or a module in an ED 110, a function of the apparatus 510 may be implemented by one or more processors. Specifically, the processor may include a modem chip, or a system on chip SoC chip or an SIP chip that includes a modem core. A function of the communication unit 513 may be implemented by a transceiver circuit.

[0133] In some implementations, when the apparatus 510 is a circuit or a chip that is responsible for a communication function in a ED 110, for example, a modem chip, a system on chip SoC chip or an SIP chip that includes a modem core, a function of the processing unit 512 may be implemented by a circuit system that is in the chip and that includes one or more processors or processor cores. A function of the communication unit 513 may be implemented by an interface circuit or a data transceiver circuit on the foregoing chip.

[0134] It may be understood that division into the units in the foregoing apparatus is merely logical function division. Each function may correspond to one functional unit, or two or more functions may be integrated into one functional unit. In actual implementation, all or some of the units may be integrated into one physical entity, or may be distributed in different physical entities. In addition, the foregoing functional units may be implemented in a form of hardware, may be implemented in a form of software, or may be implemented in a form of a combination of hardware and software. Whether a function is performed in a form of hardware or software depends on particular applications and design constraint conditions of the technical solutions. A person skilled in the art may use different methods to implement the described functions for each particular application, but it should not be considered that the implementation goes beyond the scope of this application.

[0135] In an example, a functional unit in any one of the foregoing apparatuses may be configured as one or more integrated circuits for implementing the foregoing methods, for example, one or more application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) , one or more central processing units (CPUs) , one or more microprocessors (microcontroller units, MCUs) , one or more digital signal processors (DSP) , one or more field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) , or a combination of at least two of these integrated circuit forms.

[0136] In an example, the storage unit 514 may include a random access memory, a flash memory, a read-only memory, a programmable read-only memory, an electrically erasable programmable memory, and / or a register.

[0137] A processor, a processor system, an application processor, a baseband processor, a processor circuit, or a processor core may be collectively referred to as a processor. The processor may include one or a combination of a central processing unit (CPU) , a digital signal processor (DSP) , a microprocessor (microprocessor unit, MPU) , a microcontroller (microcontroller unit, MCU) , a graphics processing unit (GPU) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) , an artificial intelligence processor (AI processor) , or a neural network processing unit (NPU) .

[0138] The memory may include one or more of the following storage medium: a random access memory (RAM) , a static random access memory (static RAM, SRAM) , a dynamic random access memory (dynamic RAM, DRAM) , a phase-change memory (PCM) , a resistive random access memory (resistive RAM, ReRAM) , a magneto-resistive random access memory (magneto-resistive RAM, MRAM) , a ferroelectric random access memory (ferroelectric RAM, FRAM) , a cache, a register, a read-only memory (ROM) , a flash memory, an erasable programmable read-only memory (erasable programmable ROM, EPROM) , a hard disk, and the like. In an example, the computer program instructions used to execute the foregoing embodiments may be stored in a non-volatile memory, for example, at least a part of the memory (for example, one or more of a ROM, a flash memory, an EPROM, or a hard disk) . When the terminal runs, a part or all of corresponding computer program instructions may be loaded to a memory that has a higher transmission speed with the processor, for example, at least a part of the memory 208 and / or the memory 258 (for example, one or more of a RAM, an SRAM, a DRAM, a PCM, a RERAM, an MRAM, a FRAM, a cache, or a register) , so that the processor executes the computer program instructions to perform the steps in the foregoing method embodiments.

[0139] The solution described in the present disclosure may be applicable to a next generation (e.g. sixth generation (6G) or later) network, or a legacy (e.g. 5G, 4G) network.

[0140] In Release 17 (R17) version of 5G, to save energy for UE in radio resource control RRC idle / inactive states, PEI WUS based on DCI format 2-7 was introduced. The UE monitors a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) before a time offset of a paging occasion (PO) , and the downlink control information (DCI) also indicates the subgroup for each PO.

[0141] In Release 18 / 19 (R18 / 19) versions of 5G, support for new WUS (wake-up signal) and WUR (wake-up receiver) was added. R18 / 19 supports new WUS and WUR. In idle / inactive state, WUS is received before an offset time of PO to decide whether to monitor PDCCH in the following PO. In connected state, WUS before an offset time of DRX (discontinuous reception) on duration to decide whether monitor PDCCH in the DRX on duration.

[0142] However, in 5G power saving modes, sensing capabilities are not considered. There is no clear approach to support sensing within the power-saving procedures of 5G networks.

[0143] In view of the above, the present disclosure provides a method, in which a first indication is introduced to indicate whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions. In some cases, sensing occasions, LP-WUS, sensing early indication, sensing DCI format are introduced for UE power saving state sensing operation. Sensing occasions are introduced for sensing signaling transmission occasion. The sensing signaling can be sensing PDCCH (SePDCCH) . In some cases, LP-WUS or a sensing paging early indication (S-PEI) can indicate a sensing early indication (SEI) ON / OFF, where the sensing early indication (SEI) can indicate sensing signaling ON / OFF in multiple sensing occasions. In some cases, Sensing DCI format 1 includes qualified sensing requirement, sensing occasion indication. Sensing DCI format 1 can be SEI. Sensing DCI format 2 includes sensing measurement and report configuration, which can be carried by a sensing PDCCH transmitted during a sensing occasion. Harmonized paging and sensing early indication are also provided. In some cases, it is also possible to use DCI or MAC CE or RRC to indicate all of the aforementioned information, including but not limited to, ON / OFF and the monitoring occasion of LP-WUS or SEI or S-PEI which indicates ON / OFF of sensing signaling, ON / OFF of LP-WUS or S-PEI which indicates ON / OFF of SEI, ON / OFF of sensing signaling, the sensing occasion (s) , the qualified sensing requirement, the sensing information etc.

[0144] Solutions provided by embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to a communication system including a sensing device. The sensing device is a device with sensing capabilities, for example, a terminal device with sensing capabilities. The sensing device can also be referred to as a sensing apparatus or a detector, etc. The sensing device can determine attribute information of a target to be sensed by transmitting a signal (which can also be referred to a sensing signal) and receiving the signal (also known as an echo signal) reflected by the target to be sensed. Alternatively, the sensing device can forward a measurement result of the echo signal to a further device, the further device then determines the attribute information of the target to be sensed. The attribute information of the target to be sensed includes information such as speed, distance, attitude, shape, size, and position of the target. The sensing signal, which is used to sense the target to be sensed, is also known as a detection signal, a radar signal, a radar sensing signal, a radar detection signal, an environmental sensing signal, a reference signal, etc. The sensing signal can be a pulse signal or a signal that may be present in a wireless communication system, such as a sounding reference signal (SRS) , a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) , a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) , a synchronization signal (SS) and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (synchronization signal / PBCH block, SSB) , or a SS.

[0145] The embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to sensing of surrounding environment. For example, the embodiments of the present disclosure can be applied to ground traffic detection, to detect vehicle speed, whether a vehicle is occupying an emergency lane, or whether a vehicle is changing lanes illegally. In this scenario, the sensing device can be installed on mobile devices, such as motor vehicles (e.g., autonomous vehicles, smart cars, electric vehicles, digital cars, etc. ) , drones, rail cars, bicycles, speed measurement devices, terminal devices, etc. The sensing device can also be installed on fixed devices, such as roadside devices or traffic lights, etc. Additionally, this application example can be applied to air traffic detection, meteorological detection, safety detection, electromagnetic imaging, etc. This application example is not limited to sensing application scenarios.

[0146] An exemplary scenario of the present disclosure will be described in the first place before elaborating the solution of the present disclosure. It should be noted that FIG. 6 simply shows an exemplary scenario to which the solution proposed by the present disclosure could be applied, and should not be construed as a limitation.

[0147] FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram of an application scenario according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram of a sensing entity deployment according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 6 and FIG. 7, the embodiment provides two network devices including a core network and a base station and at least one sensing device (UE) , the number of network devices and UEs shown in FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 are illustrative rather than restrictive. Sensing configurations are established by a sensing entity located either in the CN or the RAN node. The sensing entity is responsible for sensing task management, sensing resource allocation, and for sensing results calculation. The configuration of the sensing entity can be directed by the CN, the RAN, or both. Sensing entity in the RAN can be configured by the CN. A sensing report which may be generated based on measurement of a sensing signal is transmitted from the UE to the sensing entity in the CN or RAN node. The RAN node can process the sensing report locally or forward the sensing report to the CN which then processes the same. The transmission of sensing information between the CN-based sensing entity and the UE is facilitated by the LPP (LTE Positioning Protocol) , the sensing information may be information about how to perform sensing measurement by the UE. The RAN node can be a base station or another UE. In the case of direct communication between two UEs, the transmission of sensing information can occur over a sidelink connection. For sidelink sensing, the sensing entity may be located in CN or UE for sensing configuration establishment. Sensing entity in UE can be configured by CN. The communication between the UE and the CN node can be implemented via new radio (NR) positioning protocol ‘a’ (NRPPa) .

[0148] The transmission of sensing information between the base station and the UE is done over a Uu link (the direct radio link between the UE and the base station) . If sensing is configured by the CN, the transmission of sensing information between CN and the UE can be done over a CN and UE interface. Alternatively, the configuration can be transmitted to the RAN node, which then communicates with the UE.

[0149] As shown in FIG. 6 and FIG. 7, an object is to be sensed. The object could be the target to be sensed mentioned above. For example, the base station transmits radio signals that propagate through the environment. These signals can directly reach the UE and can also reflect off objects such as buildings. The UE may receive both the direct signal from the base station and the reflected signal from the object. The UE can measure various properties of these signals, such as phase, angle of arrival, time of arrival, and signal strength. The phase difference between the direct and reflected signals can provide information about the path length difference. This can be used to calculate the distance to the object. The time difference between the transmission of the signal and its reception can also be used to calculate the distance to the object. If the object is moving, the frequency of the reflected signal will be shifted due to the Doppler effect. The frequency can be used to determine the speed and direction of the object. The UE can process the measured data to extract relevant information about the object, such as its distance, speed, and direction. The UE generates a sensing report that includes these attributes and transmits it back to the base station.

[0150] The method provided in embodiments of the present disclosure can be executed by a first device and a second device, where the first device can perform functions of a terminal device, and the second device can perform the functions of a network device. For example, the first device can be the UE in FIG. 6 or FIG. 7, and the second communication device can be the network device shown in FIG. 6, or FIG. 7. Alternatively, the first device can perform functions of a terminal device, and the second device can also perform functions of a network device. For example, the first device can be the UE in FIG. 6 or FIG. 7, and the second communication device can also be the network device in FIG. 6 or FIG. 7.

[0151] For ease of description, in the following text, examples are taken where the embodiments are executed by a network device and a terminal device, but the execution body should not be limited to a network device and a terminal device. For example, the embodiment can also involve interactions among one network device and multiple terminal devices. When involving multiple terminal devices, each of these terminal devices may follow the same process flow to participate in the same sensing task, or may take different actions to complete different sensing tasks.

[0152] In the communication method provided by the embodiment, steps executed by the network device can be realized by a RAN device or a CN itself or by components within the RAN device or the CN device (such as a baseband chip, or other processing units or processors, etc. ) . For example, the network device can be the network device in FIG. 6, or it can also be the chip (system) within the network device in FIG. 6. The steps executed by the terminal device can be realized by a terminal device itself or by components within the terminal device (such as a chip, a processing unit, or a processor, etc. ) . The terminal device can be the UE shown in FIG. 6, or it can also be the chip (system) within the UE in FIG. 6.

[0153] FIG. 8 is a schematic flowchart of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The method shown in FIG. 8 is implemented by a terminal device. It should be understood that the method shown in FIG. 8 can also be realized by other devices, such as chips or communication devices with communication capabilities. As shown in FIG. 8, the method can include the following step.

[0154] S801, the terminal device monitors a first indication, where the first indication indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, and the sensing signaling indicates sensing information.

[0155] In an implementation, the first indication may be a signal (e.g., a wake-up signal) or a message (a downlink control message carrying downlink control information) , the first indication may also be implemented as downlink control information, then different formats of the first indication represent the presence or absence. The form of the first indication is not limited in the embodiments of the present disclosure. The terminal device may monitor in a second occasion (predefined time instance or event or time window) during which the terminal device checks for the first indication. The second occasion is configured by the network for power saving and sensing operations.

[0156] In an implementation, the sensing signaling includes information related to a sensing task, such as object detection, ranging, positioning, tracking, or imaging, which is not limited here.

[0157] In an implementation, the first occasion can also be referred to as a sensing occasion.

[0158] In an implementation, the terminal device may be configured with information to locate the second occasion, so as to ensure the monitoring of the first indication. For example, the information may be a starting time of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time (e.g., a predefined system frame and slot) . Sometimes multiple second occasions may appear periodically, a period of the multiple second occasions may also be configured in advance (e.g., via higher layer signaling) , the terminal device may perform the monitoring in each of the multiple second occasions.

[0159] In an implementation, the terminal device may be also configured with information to locate the one or multiple first occasions, so as to ensure that the terminal device can correctly identify which occasion the first indication is referring to. For example, the information may be a starting time of the one or multiple first occasions or a time offset of the one or multiple first occasions relative to a reference time (e.g., a predefined system frame and slot or the second occasion) . Sometimes multiple first occasions may appear periodically, a period of the multiple first occasions may also be configured in advance (e.g., via higher layer signaling) . In another example, the information may also be indicated by the first indication.

[0160] In an implementation, the first indication informs the terminal device about the presence or absence of sensing signaling in one first occasion or in a plurality of first occasions. For example, each second occasion corresponds to or is associated with one first occasion, so the presence or absence indication may be effective for simply one first occasion. In another example, each second occasion corresponds to or is associated with multiple first occasions, the presence or absence indication may be effective for the multiple first occasions.

[0161] In an implementation, the indication of the presence or absence of the sensing signaling can be done in various ways. For example, the detection of the first indication in the second occasion directly indicates that the sensing signaling is present, if the first indication is not detected, it means that the sensing signaling is absent. In another example, the content of the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present, so upon detecting the first indication, the terminal device determines whether the sensing signaling is present based on the detected first indication, e.g., the first indication may be implemented as a sequence, then different states / sequences of the first indication represent the presence or absence of the sensing signaling. The first indication may also be implemented as downlink control information, then different bit states of the first indication represent the presence or absence of the sensing signaling.

[0162] In an implementation, when the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the terminal device may proceed with detection of the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions, and then perform the sensing task according to the sensing signaling.

[0163] In an implementation, when the first indication is not detected, or the first indication is detected and the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is not present in each of the one or more first occasions, which means the one or more first occasions associated with the second occasion has no sensing signaling, so the terminal device may skip a detection of the sensing signaling.

[0164] For example, the terminal device detects a first indication in the second occasion. A plurality of first occasions, for example occasion 1, occasion 2 and occasion 3 associated with the first indication have been configured. The received first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present in occasion 1 and occasion 3. The terminal device will monitor and detect the sensing signaling in occasion 1 and occasion 3, while skip the detection step in occasion 2.

[0165] By monitoring the first indication during the second occasion, the terminal device can wake up for monitoring the sensing signaling when it is expected to be present, allowing for more efficient execution of sensing tasks instead of monitoring in every possible occasion. In this way, the terminal device simply needs to detect sensing signaling in sensing occasion (s) , therefore power consumption is reduced. The first indication can guide the terminal device to detect sensing signaling in a sensing occasion, and power consumption is reduced.

[0166] In an implementation, the first indication may be one of: a sensing early indication (SEI) (or referred to as early sensing indication) , a sensing paging early indication (S-PEI) , or a wake-up signal (WUS) .

[0167] In an implementation, the S-PEI is a fusion of sensing indication and paging indication. The S-PEI not only indicates whether sensing signaling is present in the one or more first occasions, but also whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions (POs) , and for each of the one or more paging occasions, the S-PEI also indicates an offset between the paging occasion and a first occasion corresponding to this paging occasion. The paging occasion is an occasion during which a paging message may appear, and each paging occasion has its corresponding first occasion. The one or more paging occasions may be configured in advance (e.g., via higher layer signaling) , then the indication of the offset between the paging occasion and its corresponding first occasion enables the terminal device to easily locate the first occasion.

[0168] In an implementation, the WUS can be a low power WUS. For example, an LP-WUS may be configured with the function of indicating the presence or absence of the sensing signaling, the power consumption is thus low. The LP-WUS could be according to on off keying (OOK) or orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sequences. The number of sensing occasions that can be indicated by LP-WUS depends on the number of states that LP-WUS can support, which is not limited in the embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0169] Different types of indications (SEI, S-PEI, WUS) can be used to provide flexibility in network management, which can allow the network to adapt to different scenarios and requirements.

[0170] SEI can be conveyed as DCI in a compact format carried by PDCCH, so the SEI has a better indication capability and can be associated with more first occasions. SEI is also more reliable, which would be beneficial for the presence indication of the sensing signaling and reducing the false alarm rate or miss detection rate. The SEI can indicate information via sequence patterns, or it can use DCI bits directly to indicate information.

[0171] S-PEI can be introduced to indicate at least one paging occasion, and multiple sensing occasion sensing signaling existence (ON / OFF) , the time offset of sensing occasions relative to system paging occasions, the qualification requirement for a qualified UE, and search space configuration for the sensing signaling. That means the sensing related indication information can be added in the current PEI DCI format 2-7 or a new DCI format sensing paging early indication may be created for the sensing related indication information. When the first indication is S-PEI, S-PEI can indicate whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, and whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions at the same time, so minimal changes would be required. In this way, paging indication and sensing indication can be combined to indicate adjacent / corresponding paging and sensing occasion for power saving. By combining SEI with PEI, the network can reduce the frequency of terminal device wake-ups, thus conserving power. Instead of waking up the terminal device multiple times for separate tasks, the network can assign sensing tasks during or near the terminal device’s paging occasions, allowing the terminal device to complete multiple tasks in a single wake-up period.

[0172] In an implementation, at least one of a starting time of the second occasion, a period of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time may be configured. The configurations of the second occasion can be predefined or preconfigured, for example, configured by higher layer sensing information, e.g. radio resource control (RRC) signaling, or the configurations of the second occasion can be indicated by another indication. Configurations of the starting time, period, or time offset of the second occasion can ensure that the terminal device’s sensing operations are power consumption reduced and synchronized with the network’s timing, which is beneficial for effective sensing and data collection.

[0173] In an implementation, a starting time of the one or more first occasions, a period of the one or more first occasions or a first time offset of the one or more first occasions relative to a reference time is configured. When multiple first occasions are configured, the starting time of the first occasion can be configured. The second time offset which may be indicated by the first indication can be an offset between the second occasion and each of the multiple first occasions, or when the multiple first occasions are periodic, the second time offset can be an offset between the second occasion and the first one of the multiple first occasions, and once the first one of the multiple first occasions is located based on the offset, the terminal device can locate the multiple first occasions based on their periodicity.

[0174] In an implementation, these configurations of the first occasion can be preconfigured, for example, configured by a higher layer sensing signaling. In an implementation, these configurations can also be indicated by the first indication.

[0175] For example, both the first indication and first occasions are periodic. By configuring the time offset between a first indication and the first occasion among the first occasion (s) and their respective periodicities, the network device can precisely indicate the timing of one or more first occasions. In another example, a plurality of first indications may correspond to a plurality of first occasions, and each of the plurality of first indications may correspond to one or more first occasions of the plurality of first occasions. If the timing of each first occasion is at a regular interval, one first indication can indicate the first time offset of one first occasion relative to said first indication, and positions of the one or more corresponding first occasions can be thus determined based on the regular interval. If the plurality of first occasions are non-uniformly distributed, each first indication can independently indicate the timing of its corresponding one or more first occasions. In an implementation, the first time offset can be indicated by the first indication. In this way, these configurations can be allowed to be configured flexibility, and the sensing operations can be managed dynamically based on current conditions and requirements.

[0176] In the following, different examples of the first indication may be elaborated.

[0177] FIG. 9 is a schematic illustration of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 9, an LP-WUS is taken as an example of the first indication for illustration. The LP-WUS is used to indicate a sensing occasion signaling. In other words, the LP-WUS indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more sensing occasions (that is, first occasions mentioned above) . The sensing occasion is introduced for the terminal device in power saving state for sensing signaling transmission. The power saving state can be RRC idle state or RRC inactive state or RRC connected state. The periodicity and offset of sensing occasions can be configured by higher layer sensing signaling.

[0178] The terminal device in deep or ultra-deep sleep state can monitor a sensing LP-WUS signal before a time offset of a sensing occasion. The LP-WUS or WUS signal can be OOK, OFDM, or chirp low power receiver signal. The starting time, period and time offset of sensing LP-WUS occasions (specific examples of the aforementioned second occasion) can be preconfigured by higher layer sensing information, e.g. RRC. The start time can be predefined or preconfigured. As shown in FIG. 9, a plurality of LP-WUS occasions and sensing occasions have been configured.

[0179] When the LP-WUS indicates no sensing PDCCH (an example of the sensing signaling) during the corresponding sensing occasion, the UE will skip the sensing occasion and continue in ultra-deep sleep state. When the LP-WUS indicates sensing PDCCH is present in one or more sensing occasions, the terminal device may detect the sensing PDCCH in the corresponding sensing occasion. For example, in FIG. 9, an LP-WUS is detected in the second LP-WUS occasion (denoted in solid line) , and the LP-WUS indicates that a sensing PDCCH is present in a corresponding sensing occasion.

[0180] Sometimes a qualification requirement (a sensing qualification requirement) may be introduced. The qualification requirement acts as a filtering condition to identify terminal devices qualified for participating in the sensing task. A qualified terminal device which meets the qualification requirement can perform the sensing task, and the terminal device which does not meet the qualification requirement may not be qualified to participate in the sensing task.

[0181] In an implementation, the qualification requirement may include at least one of: reference signal received power (RSRP) of the first indication being higher than a threshold, or a supported bandwidth being higher than or equal to a threshold. For example, if the first indication received by the terminal device has a relatively low RSRP, that may indicate a poor channel condition, so this terminal device may not be able to accomplish the sensing task and is thus unqualified terminal device. In another example, sometimes the sensing task has a bandwidth requirement, and the bandwidth requirement indicates that the bandwidth supported by the terminal device should be higher than a threshold, so the terminal device whose supported bandwidth is lower than the threshold will be an unqualified terminal device.

[0182] In an implementation, the qualification requirement may be indicated by the sensing signaling. Based on the sensing signaling, the terminal devices that do not meet the qualification requirements can be aware of their incompetence quickly, thus power consumption is reduced and the saved power can be used for other operations, this may be helpful especially when the sensing signaling is transmitted via broadcast or multicast or groupcast.

[0183] In an implementation, the sensing signaling may be DCI carried on a sensing physical downlink control channel (SePDCCH) , and the SePDCCH carries the qualification requirement and the sensing information. SePDCCH may be a specialized physical channel used for transmitting control information related to a sensing task. The SePDCCH may be designed to carry DCI messages that are specific to sensing operations.

[0184] In an implementation, the sensing signaling may be DCI carrying the qualification requirement, and a medium access channel control element (MAC CE) or RRC message in a PDSCH (physical downlink shared channel) can indicate the sensing information including sensing measurement and / or report information, and scheduling information of the PDSCH can be carried in the sensing signaling.

[0185] In an implementation, the sensing signaling may be DCI which includes two parts, i.e., a first DCI part (which also refers to as stage 1 DCI) and a second DCI part (which also refers to as stage 2 DCI) , the first DCI part indicates scheduling information of the second DCI part and the qualification requirement, and the second part indicates the sensing information. The scheduling information may include time resource, frequency resource and other parameters necessary for the terminal device to correctly receive the second DCI part. The first DCI part is used to inform the qualified terminal about when and how to expect the second DCI part, and the second DCI part may include the sensing information that the terminal device needs to perform the sensing task. The first DCI part may be carried on a control channel (SePDCCH) , and the second DCI part may be carried on a data channel (aPDSCH) . The qualified terminal device may first decode the first DCI part to obtain the qualification requirement and the scheduling information, and if the terminal device is qualified, the terminal device may then locate the second DCI part based on the scheduling information, and perform further decoding of the second DCI part to obtain the sensing information. If the UE is unable to meet the requirement, the UE may skip the decoding of the second DCI part. Alternatively, the terminal device may also skip the decoding of the scheduling information if it is unqualified.

[0186] When the qualification requirement is met, the terminal device would detect the second DCI part based on the scheduling information of the second DCI part. When the qualification requirement is not met, the terminal device would skip a detection of the second DCI part. If the terminal device does not meet the qualification requirement, the terminal device may not decode the second DCI part or may not decode even the scheduling information, which can prevent the terminal device from wasting resources on processing sensing tasks for which it is not qualified.

[0187] In an implementation, the information related to a sensing task can be indicated by the sensing signaling or can be indicated by the sensing signaling and higher layer signaling together. The information related to the sensing task may be the aforementioned sensing information, or the aforementioned scheduling information and sensing information, or information related to the sensing task may also be the aforementioned scheduling information, sensing information and qualification requirement.

[0188] Referring to FIG. 9, the sensing signaling detected in the second sensing occasion includes a first DCI part and a second DCI part, the first DCI is carried within a SePDCCH, the second DCI part is carried by a data channel, e.g., a PDSCH. The first DCI part can indicate a qualified UE requirement, such as, RSRP of the first indication being higher than a threshold, received power of demodulation reference signal (DMRS) or synchronization signal (SS) being higher than a threshold, a supported bandwidth being higher than a threshold. The DMRS may be a DMRS over the SePDCCH, and the SS may be transmitted before the LP-WUS.

[0189] In an implementation, the qualification requirement can also be indicated by the first indication. When the qualification requirement is not met, the terminal device may skip a detection of the sensing signaling, regardless of whether the sensing signaling is present or not.

[0190] The sensing information may include first configuration information required for sensing measurement and / or second configuration information for sensing reporting. The first configuration information may include at least one of a sensing method or sensing reference signal (SERS) configuration. The sensing method may include at least one of a sensing mode, an angle-based measurement method, a time-based measurement method, a velocity-based measurement method or a phase-based measurement method. The sensing mode may include at least one of a bistatic mode, a monostatic mode or a combination of a bistatic mode and a monostatic mode. In the bistatic sensing mode, one node transmits the sensing signal, and another node receives the sensing signal. In the monostatic sensing mode, the node transmits the sensing signal and also receives the reflected sensing signal.

[0191] The indication of the sensing information can also be realized through the sensing signaling in a 2-stage DCI format. For example, the sensing signaling may be DCI which includes a first DCI part and a second DCI part, the first DCI part indicates scheduling information of the second DCI part, and the second DCI part indicates the sensing information. The scheduling information may include time resource, frequency resource and other parameters necessary for the terminal device to correctly receive the second DCI part. The first DCI part is used to inform the terminal device about when and how to expect the second DCI part, and the second DCI part may include the sensing information that the terminal device needs to perform sensing tasks. In an implementation, the first DCI part may be carried within a SePDDCH, and the second DCI part may be carried by a data channel, e.g., a PDSCH. The terminal device may first decode the first DCI part to obtain the scheduling information of the second DCI part, then locates the second DCI part based on the scheduling information, and performs further decoding of the second DCI part to obtain the sensing information. The two-stage approach can reduce UE blind detection effort by having relative fixed stage 1 DCI size. The two-stage approach can also allow flexible sensing configuration by using stage 2 DCI which is scheduled by stage 1 DCI. The network can adjust the scheduling of the second DCI part flexibly based on current network conditions.

[0192] FIG. 10 is a schematic illustration of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 10, an S-PEI is taken as an example of the first indication for illustration. Generally, paging may be trying to identify a specific terminal device for communication when there is a data transmission or an SI update notification. On the other hand, sensing facilitates sensing the environment, gesture detection, intruder detection etc. However, when considering power saving, combining SEI and PEI may be helpful for power consumption reduction. For example, the network can try to assign a sensing task to the terminal device after the terminal device wakes up from paging or close to a paging occasion to let the terminal device try to finish all the tasks during a single wake-up duration of the terminal device rather than frequently waking up the terminal device for different tasks.

[0193] As shown in FIG. 10, besides paging occasion indication, the S-PEI indicates one or multiple sensing occasion sensing signaling existence (ON / OFF) , the time offset relative to system paging occasions. The S-PEI (as a specific example of the first indication) may further indicate the qualification requirement for a qualified UE, and search space configuration for the sensing signaling. That means the sensing related indication information can be added in the current PEI DCI format 2-7 or a new DCI format sensing paging early indication may be created for the sensing related indication information. Qualification requirements can also be indicated by a sensing early indication or S-PEI and the contents are similar to the embodiments shown in FIG. 8 and FIG. 9.

[0194] Timing offset with reference is configured for each sensing occasion, and the associated reference time for each sensing occasion can be each system paging occasion. The system paging occasion can be indicated to the UE by signaling. There may be no paging transmitted in one PO, but still has associated sensing signaling after the PO. In this case, the 2-stage DCI format can also be used to indicate the sensing information. That is to say, the sensing signaling may include a first DCI part and a second DCI part, the first DCI part indicates scheduling information of the second DCI part, and the second DCI part indicates the sensing information. The scheduling information may include time resource, frequency resource and other parameters necessary for the terminal device to correctly receive the second DCI part. The first DCI part can further indicate the qualification requirement. The principle of the use of the 2-stage DCI format has been described above, which will not be repeated here.

[0195] In an implementation, an additional signal can be used to inform the terminal device whether it needs to monitor the first indication during the second occasion to further reduce the power consumption, especially when the first indication is SEI. The terminal device may monitor a second indication, the second indication indicates whether the first indication is present in the second occasion. The terminal device may monitor the second indication in a third occasion (predefined or preconfigured time instance or event or time window) .

[0196] In an implementation, the indication of the presence or absence of the first indication can be done in various ways. For example, the detection of the second indication in a third occasion directly indicates that the first indication is present, if the second indication is not detected, it means that the first indication is absent. In another example, the content of the second indication indicates that the first indication is present, so upon detecting the second indication, the terminal device determines whether the first indication is present based on the detected second indication, e.g., the second indication may be implemented as a sequence, then different states / locations of the first indication represent the presence or absence of the sensing signaling. The second indication may also be implemented as downlink control information, then different bit states of the second indication represent the presence or absence of the first indication.

[0197] In an implementation, when the second indication indicates that the first indication is present in the second occasion, the terminal device may monitor the first indication in the second occasion.

[0198] In an implementation, when the second indication is not detected, or the second indication is detected and the second indication indicates that the first indication is not present in the second occasion, the terminal device may skip detection in the second occasion. In an implementation, the first indication is SEI and the second indication may be a WUS or S-PEI. The WUS may be an LP-WUS. In an implementation, the S-PEI is a fusion of paging indication and first indication’s presence indication. The S-PEI further indicates whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions.

[0199] In an implementation, at least one of a starting time of the third occasion, a period of the third occasion or a third time offset of the third occasion relative to a reference time is configured. The configurations of the third occasion can be predefined or preconfigured, for example, configured by higher layer sensing information, e.g., radio resource control (RRC) signaling, or the configurations of the third occasion can be indicated by another indication. Configurations of the starting time, period, or time offset of the third occasion can ensure that the terminal device’s sensing operations are synchronized with the network’s timing, which is beneficial for effective sensing and data collection. In an implementation, the third time offset may be an offset between the second occasion and the third occasion. When the second occasion is preconfigured, the time position of the third occasion can be indicated by offset between the second occasion and the third occasion. Alternatively, when the third occasion is preconfigured, the time position of the second occasion can be indicated by offset between the second occasion and the third occasion. The third time offset may be indicated by the second indication or by higher layer signaling. In this way, these configurations can be allowed to be configured flexibility, and the sensing operations can be managed dynamically based on current conditions and requirements.

[0200] In an implementation, the second indication may further indicate a qualification requirement. When the qualification requirement is not met, the terminal device may skip monitoring the first indication. When the qualification requirement is met, the terminal device may monitor the first indication in the second occasion.

[0201] In an implementation, a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the SEI is scrambled with a sensing radio network temporary identification (SE-RNTI) . The SE-RNTI may be a unique identifier used in the network to distinguish between different instances or sessions of sensing tasks. Scrambling the CRC with SE-RNTI can ensure that the SEI message is uniquely identified and secure. The terminal device can use the SE-RNTI to descramble the CRC of the SEI and verify the integrity of the SEI message, which can enhance the reliability of SEI message transmission.

[0202] In an implementation, a payload size of the SEI aligns with a payload size of a paging early indication (PEI) , where the PEI indicates whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions. If the payload sizes are different, the terminal device might need to perform separate blind detections for each type of indication, assuming they cannot be distinguished based on size alone.

[0203] For example, when the first indication is SEI, the second indication is LP-WUS, the LP-WUS would indicate whether the SEI is present in the second occasion. The terminal device may detect the LP-WUS in a third occasion. At least one of a starting time of the third occasion, a period of the third occasion or a third time offset of the third occasion relative to a reference time is configured. The third time offset may be an offset between the second occasion and the third occasion. When the LP-WUS is detected and the LP-WUS indicates that the SEI is present in a second occasion, the terminal device may monitor SEI in the second occasion. At least one of a starting time of the second occasion, a period of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time is pre-configured or is indicated by the LP-WUS. The terminal device may monitor the SEI in the second occasion according to the LP-WUS, and the SEI would indicate whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions. When the SEI indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the terminal device may monitor and detect the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions. At least one of a starting time of the one or more first occasions, a period of the one or more first occasions or a first time offset of the one or more first occasions relative to a reference time is pre-configured or is indicated by the SEI or the LP-WUS. The first time offset may be an offset between the second occasion and each of the one or more first occasions. The terminal device would then perform the sensing task according to the sensing signaling. The LP-WUS, the SEI or the sensing signaling may further indicate a qualification requirement as described before.

[0204] In another example, when the first indication is SEI, the second indication is S-PEI, the S-PEI would indicate whether the SEI is present in the second occasion, and / or whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions. The terminal device may detect the S-PEI in a third occasion. At least one of a starting time of the third occasion, a period of the third occasion or a third time offset of the third occasion relative to a reference time is configured. The third time offset may be an offset between the second occasion and the third occasion. When the S-PEI indicates that the SEI is present in a second occasion, the terminal device may monitor SEI in the second occasion. At least one of a starting time of the second occasion, a period of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time is pre-configured or is indicated by the S-PEI. The terminal device may monitor the SEI in the second occasion according to the S-PEI, and the SEI would indicate whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions. When the SEI is detected in the second occasion, and the SEI indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the terminal device may monitor and detect the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions. At least one of a starting time of the one or more first occasions, a period of the one or more first occasions or a first time offset of the one or more first occasions relative to a reference time can be pre-configured or can be indicated by the SEI or the S-PEI. The first time offset may be an offset between the second occasion and each of the one or more first occasions. The terminal device would then perform the sensing task according to the sensing signaling. The S-PEI, the SEI or the sensing signaling may further indicate a qualification requirement as described before.

[0205] FIG. 11a is a schematic illustration of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 11b is a schematic illustration of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 11a, a SEI is taken as an example of the first indication, and an LP-WUS is taken as an example of the second indication for illustration. The SSB in FIG. 11b can be omitted if synchronization is not required.

[0206] Referring to FIG. 11a and FIG. 11b, LP-WUS is used to indicate the existence of sensing early indication (SEI) , sensing early indication is used to indicate the existence of sensing occasion signaling. In these examples, the LP-WUS is a specific example of the aforementioned second indication, and the SEI is a specific example of the aforementioned first indication.

[0207] As shown in FIG. 11a, the LP-WUS indicates ON / OFF of sensing early indication which is first sensing PDCCH after LP-WUS which is after LP-WUS a configured time offset (i.e., the third time offset) . Considering the limited indication capacity of the LP-WUS, the SEI can be used to indicate the existence of one or more sensing PDCCH ON / OFF during the following sensing occasions. Qualification requirements are also indicated by the SEI and the contents are similar to the embodiments shown in FIG. 8 and FIG. 9.

[0208] In each sensing occasion, at least the sensing PDCCH can be transmitted. PDSCH, SERS, PUCCH / PUSCH may also be transmitted following the transmission of the sensing PDCCH. The sensing PDCCH can carry sensing measurement and report configuration, for example sensing method, SERS configuration, and reporting resources. Alternatively, sensing PDCCH can carry a first DCI part which indicates the PDSCH resources carrying a second DCI part. The second DCI part indicates sensing measurement and / or report configuration.

[0209] When the sensing early indication indicates no sensing signaling in the sensing occasion, the UE will skip the indicated sensing occasions and continue in deep sleep state till to the next sensing signaling occasion or next sensing early indication occasion.

[0210] When the sensing early indication indicates a sensing signaling, the terminal device will perform sensing PDCCH detection in the corresponding sensing occasion. Sensing early indication can indicate sensing PDCCH ON / OFF in multiple sensing occasions. There may be multiple sensing early indication signaling, each corresponding to one transmission (Tx) beam. With beamforming the coverage can be enhanced especially in high frequency. Multiple beam sweeping can cover multiple directions. Same contents can be indicated by each beam for beam sweeping. SEI can also indicate the qualified terminal device requirement: DMRS / SS RSRP higher than threshold, largest BW higher than threshold. The qualified UE can then perform further detection of the sensing PDCCH in the sensing occasions. If the terminal device cannot meet the requirement, the UE will skip the detection in the configured sensing occasions.

[0211] Sensing PDCCH can carry sensing measurement and / or report configuration such as, for example, sensing method, SERS configuration, and reporting resources. The sensing method can be a sensing mode, an angle-based measurement method, a time-based measurement method, a velocity-based measurement method or a phase-based measurement method. Sensing mode may include a bistatic mode, a monostatic mode or a combination of a bistatic mode and a monostatic mode. Alternatively, sensing PDCCH can carry a stage 1 DCI which indicates the PDSCH resources carrying a stage 2 DCI. Stage 2 DCI indicates sensing measurement and report configuration. Alternatively, the MAC CE or RRC message in the PDSCH can indicate the sensing measurement and report configuration.

[0212] SE-RNTI can be used for SEI CRC scrambling. Optionally, sensing early indication can align a payload size with PEI to reduce blind detection when they coexist.

[0213] FIG. 12 is a schematic illustration of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 12, SEI is taken as an example of the first indication, and S-PEI is taken as an example of the second indication for illustration. S-PEI indicates SEI existence (ON / OFF) . One-bit indication can be used in DCI format 2-7. A time offset between S-PEI and sensing early indication can be preconfigured or dynamically configured by the S-PEI.

[0214] The SEI can indicate existence of the sensing signaling in the following multiple sensing occasions and qualification requirement. The description relevant to the SEI in FIG. 11a and FIG. 11b also apply here, and the description relevant to the sensing PDCCH in FIG. 8, FIG. 9, FIG. 10, FIG. 11a and FIG. 11b also apply here.

[0215] In an implementation, the terminal device may support both WUS and SEI to indicate whether sensing signaling is present in upcoming sensing occasions. The terminal device may monitor a third indication, the third indication indicates whether a sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions. Both the first indication and the third indication can be WUS or SEI. When the first indication and the third indication are both detected, the terminal device may determine for the at least one of the one or more first occasions, whether the sensing signaling is present according to an indication with a higher priority among the first indication and the third indication. That is to say, if the first indication and the third indication are both detected, but they indicate different situations of the presence of the sensing signaling in the same first occasion, the terminal device may determine whether to monitor the first occasion, based on the indication priority, e.g., an indication with a higher priority among the first indication and the third indication. The method for determining the priority can be preconfigured or predefined.

[0216] In an implementation, the indication with the higher priority is an indication among the first indication and the third indication which is closest to the at least one of the one or more first occasions. That is to say, the latter indication (the signal received most recently) overrides the previous indication.

[0217] FIG. 13 is a schematic illustration of an example of sensing occasion indication priority. As shown in FIG. 13, the terminal device detects two LP-WUSs, namely LP-WUS 1 and LP-WUS 2. Both the LP-WUS 1 and LP-WUS 2 indicate whether a sensing signaling is present in sensing occasion 1. In this case, LP-WUS 2, which is closest to sensing occasion 1, has a higher priority than LP-WUS 1. The terminal device may determine for sensing occasion 1, whether the sensing signaling is present according to LP-WUS 2.

[0218] In another implementation, the indication with the higher priority is SEI and the other indication among the first indication and the third indication is a WUS. Existence of sensing signaling in a sensing occasion is indicated by both the SEI and the WUS, the overriding can be pre-configured or pre-defined that SEI always overrides WUS indication in the sensing occasion. FIG. 14 is a schematic illustration of an example of sensing occasion indication priority. As shown in FIG. 14, the terminal device detects two LP-WUSs, namely LP-WUS 1 and LP-WUS 2. LP-WUS 1 indicate whether a sensing signaling is present in sensing occasion 1. LP-WUS 2 indicates an SEI is present during an occasion, and the SEI indicates whether a sensing signaling is present in sensing occasion 1. In this case, the SEI has a higher priority than LP-WUS 1. The terminal device may determine for sensing occasion 1, whether the sensing signaling is present according to the SEI. In an implementation, SEI may have a specific time window during which it is effective. This means that the SEI may be valid for a certain period after it is received by the terminal device. If the SEI is too far in time from the first occasion that it indicates, it may become invalid or less reliable. In this case, the terminal device may determine for the sensing occasion, whether the sensing signaling is present according to the WUS which is closest to the first occasion.

[0219] By setting the priority rules for a plurality of first indications, conflicts of indication contents indicated by the plurality of first indications can be addressed, and the reliability of sensing operations can be enhanced.

[0220] FIG. 15 is a schematic flowchart of a method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The method shown in FIG. 15 is implemented by a network device. It should be understood that the method shown in FIG. 15 can also be realized by other devices, such as chips or communication devices with communication capabilities. As shown in FIG. 15, the method can include the following steps.

[0221] S1501, the network device transmits a first indication in a second occasion, where the first indication indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, and the sensing signaling indicates sensing information.

[0222] In an implementation, the network device transmits a first indication in a second occasion (predefined time instance or event or time window) via broadcast multicast, groupcast, or unicast, etc. The second occasion is configured by the network for power saving and sensing operations. The first indication may be a signal (e.g., a wake-up signal) or a message (a downlink control message carrying downlink control information) , the form of the first indication is not limited in the embodiments of the present disclosure. The first indication can indicate whether sensing signaling is present in one first occasion or in a plurality of first occasions. The sensing signaling includes information related to a sensing task, such as object detection, ranging, positioning, tracking, or imaging, which is not limited here. The first occasion can also be referred to as a sensing occasion. For description about the indication of the presence or absence of the sensing signaling, reference may be made to the above description with reference to FIG. 8. When the terminal device detects the first indication and the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is present in at least one of the one or more first occasions, the terminal device may detect the sensing signaling in the at least one of the one or more first occasions. The terminal device can perform the sensing task according to the sensing signaling. When the terminal device does not detect the first indication, or when the first indication indicates that the sensing signaling is not present in the one or more first occasions, the terminal device may skip a detection of the sensing signaling.

[0223] In an implementation, the sensing signaling includes information related to a sensing task, such as object detection, ranging, positioning, tracking, or imaging, which is not limited here.

[0224] In an implementation, the first occasion can also be referred to as a sensing occasion.

[0225] In an implementation, the network device or other devices may configure the terminal device with information to locate the second occasion, so as to ensure the monitoring and detecting of the first indication. For example, the information may be a starting time of the second occasion or a second time offset of the second occasion relative to a reference time (e.g., a predefined system frame) . Sometimes multiple second occasions may appear periodically, the network device can configure a period of the multiple second occasions in advance (e.g., via higher layer signaling) , the terminal device may perform the monitoring in each of the multiple second occasions.

[0226] In an implementation, the first indication informs the terminal device about the presence or absence of sensing signaling in one first occasion or in a plurality of first occasions. For example, each second occasion corresponds to or is associated with one first occasion, so the presence or absence indication may be effective for simply one first occasion. In another example, each second occasion corresponds to or is associated with multiple first occasions, the presence or absence indication may be effective for the multiple first occasions.

[0227] The network device transmits the first indication during the second occasion, and the terminal device can wake up for monitoring the sensing signaling when it is expected to be present, allowing for more efficient execution of sensing tasks instead of monitoring in every possible occasion. In this way, the terminal device simply needs to detect sensing signaling in sensing occasion (s) , therefore power consumption is reduced. The first indication can guide the terminal device to detect sensing signaling in a sensing occasion, and power consumption is reduced.

[0228] In an implementation, the first indication may be one of: a sensing early indication (SEI) , a sensing paging early indication (S-PEI) , or a wake-up signal (WUS) . The S-PEI indicates whether sensing signaling is present in one or more first occasions, and whether a paging message is present in one or more paging occasions and an offset between a respective paging occasion of the one or more paging occasions and a corresponding first occasion. The WUS can be a low power WUS (LP-WUS) .

[0246] Although this disclosure refers to illustrative embodiments, this is not intended to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications and combinations of the illustrative embodiments, as well as other embodiments of the disclosure, will be apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description.

[0247] Features disclosed herein in the context of any particular embodiments may also or instead be implemented in other embodiments. Method embodiments, for example, may also or instead be implemented in apparatus, system, and / or computer program product embodiments. In addition, although embodiments are described primarily in the context of methods and apparatus, other implementations are also contemplated, as instructions stored on one or more computer-readable mediums (which could be non-transitory computer-readable mediums) , for example. Such medium could store programming or instructions to perform any of various methods consistent with the present disclosure.

[0248] In the embodiments of the present disclosure, sensing occasions are configured for sensing signaling transmission. Sensing occasion signaling existence is indicated by LP-WUS or sensing early indication. Sensing occasion signaling indicates sensing measurement and report configuration. The sensing occasion is introduced for potential sensing signaling transmission. UE only needs to detect sensing signaling in sensing occasions, therefore power consumption is reduced. LP-WUS or SEI for sensing signaling indication can guide the UE to detect sensing signaling in a sensing occasion, power consumption is reduced.

[0249] In some cases, LP-WUS indicates the sensing early indication ON / OFF. Sensing early indication indicates one or more than one sensing occasion sensing PDCCH on / off (sensing DCI format 1) . Sensing early indication carries sensing qualification requirement (sensing DCI format 1) . Sensing PDCCH or its associated stage 2 DCI carries sensing measurement and report configuration (sensing DCI format 2) Sensing early indication occasion is configured based on a time offset with LP-WUS. The configuration can be done through higher layer signaling. LP-WUS is more power saving than SEI, thus it is power consumption reduced with LP-WUS indicating SEI ON / OFF. SEI has a larger status indication and is more reliable than the LP-WUS, SEI can be used for sensing occasion sensing signaling ON / OFF indication, and with SEI indication of sensing requirement, the unqualified UE does not need to make further detection, which reduces both network and UE power consumption. The larger payload size of the sensing measurement and report placed in stage 2 is helpful for payload size reduction in stage 1 DCI. The stage 2 DCI can also be carried by PDSCH, which can still assure reliability.

[0250] In some cases, LP-WUS is configured for indication ON / OFF of sensing PDCCH in a sensing occasion. Sensing PDCCH carries stage 1 sensing DCI format 1 which include sensing qualification requirement, stage 1 DCI also includes resources for PDSCH carrying stage 2 sensing DCI. The start time, period and time offset of sensing LP-WUS occasions can be configured by higher layer signaling. The sensing occasions are configured by higher layer signaling with a time offset with LP-WUS occasion. When LP-WUS is used for sensing signaling on / off directly, power consumption can be reduced compared to directly detecting PDCCH. Sensing qualification in DCI stage 1 can indicate whether UE meeting the requirement, and unqualified UE can be avoided further detecting the following PDCCH, thus reducing power consumption.

[0251] In some cases, both LP-WUS and sensing early indication can be configured to indicate one or more sensing signaling ON / OFF in the following sensing occasions. For the same sensing occasion indication, the latter LP-WUS or sensing early indication overrides the previous LP-WUS or sensing PDCCH indications. Priority is given to the latter signaling which may have latest valid indication.

[0252] In some cases, S-PEI indicates both paging and sensing occasion signaling on / off, time offset between system paging occasion and sensing occasion, sensing qualification requirement. Sensing PDCCH carries sensing DCI format 2. Or PEI indicates sensing early indication ON / OFF. Paging and sensing indication are combined to indicate adjacent paging and sensing occasion for power saving.

[0253] Next, embodiments of products related to the communication methods will be described.
