Targeting system for periprosthetic bone plates
By using the alignment guide and plug design of the targeting system, the problem of positioning and fixing the bone fixation plate in periprosthetic fractures has been solved. It has enabled precise positioning of a small-diameter variable-angle opening in the periprosthetic bone plate and free adjustment of surgical instruments, reducing trauma and improving treatment efficiency.

Abstract
A targeting system is disclosed. In use, the targeting system is configured to target (e.g., aim, locate, etc.) a fastener opening in a bone plate, and more particularly, a variable angle fastener opening formed in a perimeter of a periprosthetic bone plate. In one embodiment, the targeting system includes an alignment guide that includes a plurality of combination slots for targeting a plurality of openings formed in a periprosthetic bone plate. Additionally, the targeting system includes a plug that is configured to be positioned within a combination slot formed in the alignment guide. In use, positioning the plug into the combination slot formed in the alignment guide transforms the combination slot into a generally circular hole or opening having a predetermined trajectory that is aligned with one of the variable angle openings formed in the perimeter of the periprosthetic bone plate, thereby defining a trajectory from the alignment guide to the variable angle opening.
