Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a device for repairing passenger cars with a spare wheel well that are damaged in the area of their rear by indentation.
[0002] In the case of a car, damage to the rear of the vehicle, in particular to the rear wall, the spare wheel well or the trunk floor of the vehicle's rear, can occur, for example, due to the fault of the owner or another party (rear-end collision).
[0003] According to current technology, there are ways to repair a car with rear-end damage by replacing the damaged parts, such as the rear panel, trunk floor, or spare tire well. Alternatively, one can attempt to repair the damaged parts, for example, on a frame straightening bench. However, frame straightening on a frame straightening bench is an expensive process. Furthermore, very few workshops even have a frame straightening bench these days. Another approach is to try to push the damaged parts outwards using a hydraulic cylinder. However, this method presents a significant problem. To apply pressure with a hydraulic cylinder, two pressure points are needed: a first pressure point that pushes on the side being straightened, and a second pressure point that is required to transfer the counter-pressure generated during the straightening process to, for example, the spare tire well. The problem is that this high counter-pressure would severely damage the spare wheel well or the spare wheel well wall.
[0004] DE 20 2016 000 691 A1 relates to a spare wheel mounting for securing a spare wheel of a motor vehicle. The spare wheel is received in a spare wheel recess by means of a spare wheel adapter with a circumferentially circular centering projection that is at least partially circular on its outer surface.
[0005] From DE 11 50 349 A, a tool for straightening the sheet metal of hollow bodies is known, consisting of a head serving as a hammer or anvil and a shaft. The head and the shaft can be inserted separately into the interior of the hollow body and reassembled there to then serve as a tool.
[0006] A device for hydraulically straightening sheet metal is known from GB 350,966 A. US 2,185,550 A discloses another device with a repair tool intended for use in combination with a jack for repairing dents in sheet metal of motor vehicles. US 1,850,073 A relates to a repair tool for motor vehicles comprising a non-rotating screw and a housing for a gripper that is longitudinally displaceable thereon.
[0007] The invention is based on the objective of providing a device for repairing a dented vehicle rear end, with which the dent removal of the vehicle rear end is safely possible without damaging the spare wheel well.
[0008] This problem is solved by the combination of features according to claim 1.
[0009] This offers the advantage that the hydraulic cylinder does not press against the spare wheel well wall, but against the stable mounting bracket. It can then find its own pressure point within the bracket, ensuring that the pressure is always applied precisely where needed to repair the rear of the vehicle, the floor panel, or the spare wheel well. The mounting bracket, therefore, has no fixed point where it receives the pressure from the hydraulic cylinder. Due to the bracket's rounded shape, the hydraulic cylinder automatically finds its own pressure point (floating bearing) within the bracket.
[0010] Since spare wheel wells in different vehicles have varying diameters, it's important that the rounded mounting bracket used is adjustable in diameter. Because the spare wheel well wall can have different heights, the mounting bracket may also have different heights. If the damage is severe, the mounting bracket can be made of a thicker material to prevent it from deforming under pressure and damaging the spare wheel well wall. The mounting bracket material is typically rolled to conform to the round shape of the spare wheel well.
[0011] To allow the radius of the mounting bracket to match the radius of the spare wheel well, one or more clamping screws can be used to adjust the bracket's radius. To prevent the mounting bracket from deforming or twisting under high pressure, it can be reinforced to increase its strength.
[0012] In some cars, the spare wheel well is not aligned at a perpendicular angle to the spare wheel base (approximately 90 degrees), but rather at a much larger angle. In this case, the mounting bracket does not have a secure hold against the spare wheel well wall and, if pressure were applied, would be pushed upwards out of the spare wheel well by the hydraulic cylinder. To solve this problem, a second bracket is used, which is leaned against the angled wall of the spare wheel well. Wedges are placed between the mounting bracket and the second bracket to ensure a right angle for the mounting bracket.
[0013] Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described with reference to the drawing. Fig. Figure 1 shows a top view of a vehicle with a mounting bracket 1 attached to a spare wheel well wall 7, with a hydraulic cylinder 5, with a pressure point 14 and with a depressed rear wall 13, in particular a depressed rear panel, at the rear of a vehicle; Fig. 2: schematically shows in side view the rear of the car 6 with the rear wall 13 and the retaining console 1, which is inserted into a spare wheel well 11 with vertical spare wheel well wall 8; Fig. Figure 3: schematically shows in side view the rear with the rear wall 13 of a car 6 together with the holding console 1 and with a second console 10, both of which are inserted in the spare wheel well 11 with sloping spare wheel well wall 9, wherein wedges 12 are arranged between the holding console 1 and the second console 10 to ensure that the holding console 1 stands vertically in the spare wheel well 11; Fig. 4: shows the mounting bracket 1 and the second bracket 10 leaning against a sloping spare wheel well wall 9 according to Fig. 3 with wedges 12 arranged between them, forming an acute angle from top to bottom; Fig. 5: shows Fig. 4 from below, where the lower areas of the holding bracket 1 and the second bracket 10 are adjacent; Fig. 6: shows the semi-circular curved second console 10 without attachments, seen from above; Fig. Figure 7 shows in side view the mounting bracket 1 with mounting tabs 2 for attaching a clamping screw 4 according to Fig. 8 and a reinforcement 3 to limit the twisting of the mounting bracket 1; and Fig. 8: shows the holding console 1 according to Fig. 7 with built-in tensioning screw 4.
[0014] In order to use a car (6) with a sloping spare wheel well wall (9) according to Fig.To ensure that the retaining bracket (1) is vertically positioned in the spare wheel well (11), wedges (12) are used, which are mounted vertically between the retaining bracket (1) and the second bracket (10). These can be loose or connected to each other. This ensures that when pressure is applied with the hydraulic cylinder (5), the retaining bracket (1) is not forced out of the spare wheel well (11). To achieve a wedge shape between the retaining bracket (1) and the second bracket (10), curved rods made of iron or other materials with varying diameters can be used instead of the wedges (12). These are arranged horizontally between the retaining bracket (1) and the second bracket (10) and can be connected to each other.
