Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a personal care composition comprising: (a) a volatile alkane mixture comprising about 10% to about 90% by weight of linear alkanes having 9 to 18 carbon atoms and about 10% to about 90% by weight of branched alkanes having 10 to 14 hydrocarbon atoms, based on the total weight of the alkane mixture; and (b) one or more non-volatile resins selected from the group consisting of silicone resins, hydrocarbon resins, organic resins, fluorinated resins, and combinations thereof. The present disclosure also relates to the linear alkanes described above, comprising about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-decane, about 50% to about 80% by weight of n-dodecane, about 1% to about 5% by weight of n-tetradecane, and about 0% to about 5% by weight of n-hexadecane or n-octadecane, based on the total weight of the alkane mixture. [Background technology]

[0002] Resins, alone or in combination with plasticizers, are commonly used in skin care, color cosmetic, and sun care applications as film-forming agents for water resistance and long-wear. However, processability of resins in cosmetically acceptable carriers such as cyclomethicone is difficult, and dissolving resin powders in silicone-based solvents requires a long time. However, hydrocarbon-based solvents such as isododecane can easily dissolve resin powders. However, the feel of personal care formulations is not pleasant because isododecane dries very quickly. Therefore, there is a need to develop personal care compositions containing alkane mixtures that can easily dissolve resin powders while also providing excellent sensory benefits. Summary of the Invention

Example 1 Preparation of Alkane Mixture Examples 1-3

[0069] The mixture of linear alkanes of the present invention is prepared as described in EP 2417199 A1. 10 ~C 12The alkanes were combined and stirred until a homogeneous solution was formed. Table 1 lists the components of Alkane Mixture Examples 1-3. [Table 1] Example 2 Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 1

[0070] 1 g of trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) and 4 g of Alkane Mixture Example 2 were mixed for 1 minute at room temperature and 3000 rpm using a vortex mixer. After allowing to stand for an additional minute at room temperature, the photograph shown in Figure 1 was taken.

[0071] 1 g of trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) and 4 g of cyclopentasiloxane were mixed for 1 minute at room temperature and 3000 rpm using a vortex mixer. After allowing to stand for another minute at room temperature, the photograph shown in Figure 2 was taken.

[0072] Comparing the photographs in Figures 1 and 2, it is clear that all of the silicone resin is completely dissolved in the alkane mixture, whereas whitish clumps of silicone resin residue are still clearly visible in the cyclopentasiloxane and do not readily dissolve.

[0073] The surprising specificity of the alkane mixture as a solvent for resins such as trimethylsiloxysilicate can be demonstrated when compared to typical alkane solvents such as isododecane, which are often used in the cosmetic industry, especially in make-up.

[0074] The graph in Figure 3 shows the weight loss of a trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) solution in Alkane Mixture Example 2, along with the weight loss of a trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) solution in Isododecane. The graph in Figure 3 shows that the Isododecane solution has a greater weight loss because the Isododecane evaporates significantly faster than Alkane Mixture Example 2. This resulted in two distinct coatings after an additional 24 hours of evaporation, as shown in the photographs in Figure 4.

[0075] The film shown in Figure 4A (trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) in isododecane) is brittle and hard, exhibiting visible cracks. In contrast, the film shown in Figure 4B (trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ resin) in alkane mixture example 2) is smooth and soft, exhibiting no visible cracks. It is widely recognized by those skilled in the art that a hard and brittle film is detrimental to cosmetic comfort.

[0076] These results demonstrate that Alkane Blend Example 2 offers significant benefits to consumers as well as cosmetic formulators, such as good makeup wear and makeup comfort. Example 3 Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 2

[0077] Table 2 lists the ingredients for Personal Care Formula 2 (Shimmering Coral Lip Gloss). The procedure for preparing Personal Care Formula 2 is described as follows: Combine the ingredients of Phase A, heat to 50° C., and stir until a homogeneous solution is formed. Then, add Phase B and mix thoroughly. [Table 2] Example 4 Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 3

[0078] Table 3 lists the ingredients for Personal Care Formula 3 (Long-Wear Lip Color). The procedure for preparing Personal Care Formula 3 is described as follows: Combine the ingredients of Phase A, heat to 60° C., and stir until a homogeneous solution is formed. Then, add Phase B and mix thoroughly. [Table 3] Example 5 Preparation of Personal Care Formulation 4

[0079] Table 4 lists the ingredients for Personal Care Formulation 4 (Longwear Eyeliner). The procedure for preparing Personal Care Formulation 4 is described as follows: Combine the ingredients of Phase A and stir until a uniform solution is formed. Then add Phase B and mix thoroughly. Then add Phase B, heat to 50°C and mix thoroughly. Add Phase C and mix thoroughly. [Table 4]
