[0001] The present invention relates to a silicon-based negative electrode and a lithium secondary battery including the same.
[0002] Lithium-ion batteries are used in various industries due to their high energy density and lightweight properties. However, the current graphite anode has reached its capacity limit, making it difficult to meet the demand for high-capacity batteries. To solve this problem, silicon-based anodes have been studied, but problems such as instability in electrode bonding due to volume expansion during charge and discharge and excessive decomposition of the electrolyte are causing rapid reduction in lifespan. A representative example is silicon oxide (SiO). x ) and silicon-carbon composites (Si-C composites) have been developed, but silicon oxide has a short lifespan despite its high energy density, and silicon-carbon composites have limitations in that they are stable due to controlled volume expansion but have low energy density. [0011] In one aspect, the carbon material matrix may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of graphene, graphite, and amorphous carbon.
[0012] In one embodiment, the carbon-based conductive material may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of carbon nanotubes (CNT), carbon black, acetylene black, and carbon nanofibers (CNF).
[0013] In one embodiment, the aqueous binder may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyacrylic acid (PAA), polyethylene glycol, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinylpyrrolidone, styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), and latex binder.

[0016] In one aspect, the lithium secondary battery may have a capacity of 70% or more maintained after 500 charge / discharge cycles.
[0017] According to one aspect of the present invention, a negative electrode composition is manufactured by mixing silicon oxide and a silicon-carbon composite at an appropriate mixing ratio, and the combination of the two materials is mutually complementary, so that a negative electrode for a lithium ion battery manufactured thereby can have excellent conductivity and durability.
[0018] Additionally, a lithium ion battery manufactured with the above negative electrode can have high energy density and long lifespan.
[0019] Figure 1 shows the measured cycle performance of a lithium secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention and a comparative example.
[0020] The present invention will be described in more detail below. However, the following specific examples or embodiments are merely references for describing the present invention in detail, and the present invention is not limited thereto, and may be implemented in various forms.

[0025] In addition, the terms “about,” “substantially,” etc. used in this specification are used in a meaning close to or at the numerical value when manufacturing and material tolerances inherent to the meanings mentioned are presented, and are used to prevent unscrupulous infringers from unfairly using the disclosure contents in which exact or absolute values are mentioned to aid in the understanding of the present invention.
[0026] To solve the above problems, the inventors of the present invention have produced a lithium-ion battery anode capable of simultaneously realizing high energy density and long life by mixing two anode materials, silicon oxide and silicon-carbon composite, in an appropriate ratio to complement the respective shortcomings.
[0027] The present invention will be described below.
[0028] The present invention relates to a silicon oxide (SiO x ), a silicon-carbon composite, a carbon-based conductive material and a binder are provided.
[0029] In one embodiment, the negative electrode composition for the lithium secondary battery may include silicon oxide and silicon-carbon composite in an amount of 70 to 95 wt%, 80 to 95 wt%, and the weight ratio of silicon oxide: silicon-carbon composite may be 40 to 80: 20 to 60, 50 to 70: 30 to 50. Mixing silicon oxide and silicon-carbon composite in the above weight ratio range is preferred because it allows for the production of a negative electrode having excellent energy density and durability, but is not limited thereto.
[0030] In one embodiment, the negative electrode composition for the lithium secondary battery may contain 10 to 100 parts by weight, 20 to 90 parts by weight, or 30 to 80 parts by weight of the silicon-carbon composite relative to 100 parts by weight of silicon oxide, and a lithium secondary battery including the negative electrode manufactured in the above content range may have excellent energy density and lifespan, which is preferred, but is not limited thereto.
[0031] In one embodiment, the specific capacity of the silicon oxide may be 1000 to 3000 mAh / g, 1500 to 2800 mAh / g, or 2000 to 2500 mAh / g, and a lithium secondary battery including a negative electrode manufactured with silicon oxide having the specific capacity range may have excellent energy density and lifespan, and is therefore preferred, but is not limited thereto.
[0032] In one aspect, the silicon oxide is SiO x (0.1≤x≤10), SiO x (1≤x≤5), SiO x (1≤x≤2) can be used.
[0033] In one embodiment, the specific capacity of the silicon-carbon composite may be 1500 to 2150 mAh / g, 1600 to 2000 mAh / g, or 1800 to 2000 mAh / g. A lithium secondary battery including an anode manufactured from a silicon-carbon composite having the specific capacity range is preferred because it can have excellent energy density and lifespan, but is not limited thereto.
[0034] In one embodiment, the silicon-carbon composite may have a structure in which silicon particles are dispersed within a carbon matrix. The silicon-carbon composite having the above structure may minimize damage to the carbon matrix even when the volume of the silicon particles changes, so that the electrode structure may respond flexibly without being broken. In addition, the carbon matrix may prevent the silicon particles and the electrolyte from directly contacting each other to form a solid electrolyte interface (SEI) and prevent the electrolyte from being excessively decomposed. Therefore, in a lithium ion battery negative electrode, SiO- x It can provide long life and stable cycle performance.
[0035] In one embodiment, the average particle diameter of the silicon particles may be 30 to 600 nm, 80 to 500 nm, or 100 to 400 nm. The silicon particles within the above average particle diameter range can be uniformly distributed within the carbon material of the silicon-carbon composite, thereby providing a leading effect. In addition, the silicon-carbon composite including the silicon particles within the above average particle diameter range may alleviate volume expansion of the negative electrode and increase reactivity with lithium ions, thereby providing excellent conductivity, but is not limited thereto.
[0036] In one embodiment, the silicon-carbon composite may contain silicon particles in an amount of 100 to 200 parts by weight, 110 to 180 parts by weight, or 120 to 150 parts by weight, based on 100 parts by weight of the carbon material. Including silicon particles in the above content range is preferred because it enables the manufacture of a negative electrode for a lithium battery having excellent conductivity, mechanical stability, and durability, but is not limited thereto.
[0037] In one embodiment, the carbon material may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of graphene, graphite, and amorphous carbon, but any carbon material capable of uniformly dispersing silicon particles or forming a core-shell structure, etc., thereby controlling volume expansion of silicon and maintaining mechanical strength of the electrode may be used without limitation.
[0038] In one embodiment, the carbon-based conductive material may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of carbon nanotubes (CNT), carbon black, acetylene black, and carbon nanofibers (CNF), but is not limited to a carbon-based conductive material that is used together with silicon to increase conductivity and effectively alleviate volume expansion of silicon.
[0039] The above carbon black may be a subtype of carbon black such as Ketjen black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black, summer black, etc., but is not limited thereto.
[0040] In one embodiment, the aqueous binder may be one or a mixture of two or more selected from carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyacrylic acid (PAA), polyethylene glycol, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinylpyrrolidone, styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), and latex binders, but any aqueous binder used in a negative electrode for a lithium ion battery may be used without limitation thereto.

[0065] [Example 1]
[0066] 1) Cathode
[0067] 2300 mAH / g of silicon oxide (average particle size D 50 This 50 ㎛) 70.2 wt%, 1855 mAH / g silicon-carbon composite (average particle size D 50 24 wt% of 50 ㎛), 1 wt% of carbon nanotubes, 1.5 wt% of carbon black, 3.3 wt% of an aqueous binder containing styrene-butadiene rubber and carboxymethyl cellulose at a weight ratio of 1:0.5 were mixed. 60 parts by weight of water was added to 100 parts by weight of the prepared mixture to prepare an anode slurry.
