[0001] INSECTICIDAL COMPOSITION

[0002] ******

[0003] DESCRIPTION

[0004] TECHNICAL HELD

[0005] The present invention pertains to the field of pesticide formulations for use in plant, crops, specifically to the field of micro- and nanoemulsions with properties of high efficiency and environmental preservation in their pesticidal action.

[0006] BACKGROUND

[0007] Two widely used pesticides in plant crops are profenofos and lufenuron. Profenofos, 4- bromo-2-chloro-l'[ethoxy(propylsulfanyl)phosphoryl]oxybenzene, is an organophosphorus compound with insecticidal-acaricidal activity, exhibiting high knockdown power and rapid penetration into the leaf mesophyll, while being relatively harmless to beneficial fauna. Profenofos acts by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Lufenuron, l-[2,5-Dichloro-4-(l, 1,2,3, 3,3- hexafluoropropoxy)phenyl]-3-(2,6"dlfluorobenzoyl)urea, is a systemic insecticide belonging to the benzoylurea group. It acts as an insect growth regulator (IGR) by interfering with chitin synthesis, thereby inhibiting larva! growth (particularly for Lepidoptera and Coleoptera). Additionally, it has a tow impact on beneficial insects, as it does not affect adults and has weak contact action. It is also an effective antifungal agent in plants.

[0008] These compounds are used as pest control agents in various Crops, either individually, combined with each other or in combination with other insecticidal compounds. They are frequently applied in crops such as maize, sweet potato, soybean, beet, cotton, artichoke, among others. These compounds are generally supplied in the form of emulsifiable concentrates.

[0009] The combined use of these two pesticides is described in various documents. Patent ES2250970T3 (Syngenta), for example, discloses the synergistic use of lufenuron and profenofos in a weight ratio of 1:10 in pesticidal compositions such as emulsifiable concentrates, suspension concentrates, sprayable or dilutable solutions, spreadable pastes, diluted emulsions, wettable powders, soluble powders, dispersible powders, granules, or encapsulations in polymeric substances. It highlights its effectiveness against Anticarsiagemmatalis, as well as against other pests of the Homoptera, Lepidoptera (including Anticarsiagemmatalis and Rachiplusia nu), Thysanoptera, mites, and Coleoptera, among others, It lists a variety of crops suitable for its application, including soybeans. Suitable solvents include water, vegetable oils, or epoxidized vegetable oils such as castor oil and soybean oil. It also discloses the use of nonionic, cationic, and / or anionic surfactants or surfactant mixtures with emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties, Finally, the document discloses the use of additional solid or liquid adjuvants in the formulation, such as stabilizers, e.g., vegetable oils or epoxidized vegetable oils (e.g„ epoxidized coconut oil, rapeseed oil, or soybean oil), antifoam agents (e,g.zsilicone oil), preservatives, viscosity regulators, binders and / or adhesives, as well as fertilizers or other chemical agents to achieve special effects, typically including bactericides, fungicides, nematicides, molluscicides, or herbicides. On the other hand, application US2010 / 0144888A1 (Ecosmart Technologies, INC.) discloses the use of' different compounds with pesticidal activity, including lufenuron, profenofos along with methyl salicylate, as well as various surfactants. However, it does not show or propose the combination of all three compounds in a specific composition.

[0010] Additionally, patent US8980294B2 (BASF) discloses the use of lufenuron or profenofos with methyl salicylate and xanthan gum, with a pH between 7 and 7.5 regulated by the addition of citric acid, forming a ready-to-use suspension, but it does not suggest the combined use of lufenuron and profenofos. Known formulations, however, require relatively high doses of active compounds to ensure their effectiveness, thereby increasing not only the costs but also their environmental impact.

[0011] The present invention addresses these issues by providing a synergistic Insecticidal composition with similar effectiveness to known formulations but with lower doses of active compounds and using components with low environmental impact, and by providing a process to achieve a stable nanoemulsion over time.

[0023] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0024] For the purposes of the present invention, a "microemulsion" is defined as a biphasic dispersion of two immiscible liquids, where the droplets of the dispersed phase have a size, smaller than 500 nm.

[0025] For the purposes of the present invention, a ‘'nanoemulsion" is defined as a microemulsion where the droplets of the dispersed phase have a size smaller than 200 nm.

[0026] For the purposes of the present invention, "% w / v" indicates a concentration expressed as grams of the compound of interest per 100 milliliters of solution.

[0027] An object of the present invention is an insecticidal composition that is environmentally friendly both in its components and in its ability to achieve the same effectiveness as other similar formulations with a lower load of active components per square meter of application.

[0028] The insecticidal composition of the present invention is particularly suitable for application on crops, The insecticidal composition of the present invention comprises at least, but is not limited to: an active ingredient, a protective agent for the active ingredient, an oily solvent, an aqueous solvent, a surfactant, a dispersant, an emulsifier, a stabilizer, a rheological agent, a biocidal agent, and an antifoam agent.

[0029] The active ingredient of the Insecticidal composition of the present invention is selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, profenofos, lufenuron, and their mixtures. in one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said active ingredient comprises profenofos in a concentration selected from the range comprising 18 to 31% w / v and lufenuron in a concentration selected from the range comprising 2 to 3% w / v. In the preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said active ingredient comprises profenofos at a concentration of 25% w / v and lufenuron at a concentration of 2.5% w / v.

[0030] Another preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention comprises at least two protective agents for the active ingredient: a protective agent for lufenuron and a protective agent for profenofos.

[0031] In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention., said protective agent for lufenuron is selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, salicylic acid esters, cyclohexanone, ethyl acetate, xylene, acetone, methyl-ethyl ketone, and their mixtures.

[0032] In another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said protective agent for lufenuron is a salicylic acid ester selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, butyl salicylate, methyl salicylate, and their mixtures. In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said protective agent for lufenuron is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 9 to 11% w / v.

[0033] In another preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said protective agent for iufenuron comprises butyl salicylate or methyl salicylate, or their mixtures, in a concentration of approximately 10% w / v. in another preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said protective agent also acts as a solvent. The use of butyl salicylate is environmentally friendly, as opposed to the use of other known solvents, such as, but not limited to, petroleum derivatives. This constitutes an advantage of the present invention.

[0034] Moreover, the use of other solvents such as ethanol, cyclohexanone, etc., leads to a loss of stability in the nanoemulsion. in one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the protective agent for profenofos is selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, epoxidized soybean oil, acetic anhydride, maleic anhydride, and their mixtures. In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the protective agent for profenofos is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 0.4 to 0.7% w. / v. In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the protective agent for profenofos comprises epoxidized soybean oil at a concentration of 0.5% w / v.

[0035] Profenofos must not come into contact with water within the micelle to avoid hydrolysis and the subsequent breakdown of the nanoemulsion, in the present invention, epoxidized soybean ail acts as a protective agent for profenofos by sequestering water from the refined oil and the emulsifiers that are part of the oil phase of the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0036] In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the oily solvent comprises, but is not limited to, refined soybean oil. In a preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the oily solvent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 24 to 34% w / v. [0037] The use of refined soybean oil as the oily solvent in the preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention improves the stability of the nanoemulsion compared to the stability achieved with other known oily solvents in the state of the art, such as fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) or sunflower oil. In these latter cases, the result is an emulsion that breaks or separates into two phases, and at low temperatures., vesicle formation is observed, both of which are undesirable effects in this type of product.

[0038] In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the aqueous solvent comprises, but is not. limited to, buffered water. In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said buffered water is an aqueous solution comprising, but not limited to, 9.5 g of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) per liter of solution; 17.32 g of disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4) per liter of solution, and water. Example 1 describes the preferred procedure for obtaining the buffered water used in the present invention. in another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the aqueous solvent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 23 to 30% w / v. In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the aqueous solvent comprises buffered water at a concentration of 26.5% w / v.

[0039] The use of buffered water is a novel feature of the present invention, as it ensures the stability of the insecticidal composition of the present invention in a temperature range comprising 0°C to 54"C, while also preventing profenofos from degrading due to exposure to highly acidic or highly alkaline pH levels. In accelerated stability tests where buffered water was not used, degradation of profenofos was observed despite the presence of epoxidized oil. The use of the buffered water in the present invention maintains the pH of the insecticidal composition of the present invention in the range comprising 6.6 to 7.4. in one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the surfactant is selected from ths group comprising, but not limited to, isotridecyl alcohol polyglycolether with 6 moles of ethylene oxide, lauric alcohol ethoxylated with 6 moles of ethoxylation, lauryl ether ethoxylated with 7 moles of ethoxylation, and their mixtures. [0040] In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, the surfactant comprises isotridecyl alcohol polyglycolether with 6 moles of ethylene oxide at a concentration of 4.6% w / v.

[0041] In another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said dispersing agent is selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, acrylic copolymers, neutralized phosphoric acid ester of tristyrylphenolpolyethoxylate, sodium lignosulfOnate, and their mixtures. Commercial examples of such dispersing agents include, but are not limited to, those sold under the names Atlox 4913* and Emulsogen 3475®. In another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said dispersing agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 1.5 to 2% w / v. In a more preferred embodiment, of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said dispersing agent comprises acrylic copolymers at a concentration of 1.7% w / v. In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said emulsifying agent comprises, but. is not limited to, castor oil ethoxylated with 36 moles of ethylene oxide. A commercial example of such an emulsifying agent includes, but is not limited to, the product sold under the name Emulsogen EL360®.

[0042] In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said emulsifying agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 1.2 to 1.75% w / v. In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said emulsifying agent comprises castor oil ethoxylated with 36 moles of ethylene oxide at a concentration of 1.4% w / v.

[0043] In another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said stabilizing agent Is selected from the group comprising, but not limited to, polyalkylene oxide block copolymer, n-butanol alkoxylate, and their mixtures. [0044] In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said stabilizing agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 2.25 to 3.5% w / v In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the presentinvention, said stabilizing agent comprises polyalkylene oxide block copolymer at a concentration of 2.5% w / v.

[0045] The addition of the stabilizing agent to the insecticidal composition of the present invention extends its stability to 2 years, as it has been observed that the addition of the emulsifying agent and surfactant alone is insufficient to extend stability beyond two weeks. in another embodiment, the insecticidal composition of the present invention includes a rheological agent comprising, but not limited to, xanthan gum at 2% in water. In a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said rheological agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 4.3 to 7% w / v. In an even more preferred embodiment, said rheological agent comprises xanthan gum at 2% in water at a concentration of 5% w / v.

[0046] In another embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said biocidal agent comprises, but is not limited to, formaldehyde, l,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)- one (nipacide), among others. In a preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said biocidal agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 0.1% w / v to 0.3% w / v. In an even more preferred embodiment, said biocidal agent comprises formaldehyde at a concentration of 0.2% w / v.

[0047] The use of a biocidal agent contributes to ensuring microbiological stability, as the continuous aqueous phase could become a suitable medium for microbial growth that compromises the stability of the nanoemulsion. This constitutes an innovative feature of the present invention.

[0048] In one embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said antifoaming agent comprises, but is not limited to, silicone and silicates. A commercial example of such an emulsifying agent includes, but is not limited to, the product sold under the name AP AGRO 20®. in a more preferred embodiment of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, said antifoaming agent is present in a concentration selected from the range comprising 0.2% w / v to 0.5% w / v. [0049] In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, an insecticidal composition is provided that includes the active ingredients lufenuron and profenofos, and further includes erriamectin benzoate, This expands the insecticidal spectrum of the composition of the present invention.

[0050] EXAMPLE 2 demonstrates a preferred form of the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0051] EXAMPLES 3f4, S, and 6 shows alternative embodiments of the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0052] EXAMPLE 8 discusses a trial that proves the efficacy of the insecticidal composition of the present, invention against insects, Including but not limited to Anticarsiagemmatafis, showing similar effectiveness to known formulations but using active ingredient doses per unit area that are approximately 30% of the doses required by those known formulations. Therefore, the insecticidal composition of the present invention is far more effective and environmentally friendly compared to known commercial formulations. This represents a unique novel effect of the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0053] EXAMPLE 9 presents a trial demonstrating the synergistic effect of using butyl salicylate (a protective agent for lufenuron) with active ingredients at the concentrations of the insecticidal composition of the present invention. This unexpected synergistic effect allows the insecticidal composition of the present invention to achieve higher efficacy than known formulations, with active ingredient doses applied per unit area significantly lower than those required by said known formulations.

[0054] Another object of the present invention is to provide an insecticidal formulation comprising an aqueous dilution of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, which can be applied at a dose of 62,5 ml to 450 ml of the insecticidal composition per hectare, achieving an amount of active ingredients applied per hectare ranging from 15.5 g to 112.5 g for profenofos and from 1.5 g to 11.25 g for lufenuron. This is lower than the current applied doses, where the amount of active ingredients applied per hectare ranges from 100 g to 150 g for profenofos and from 10 g to 100 g for lufenuron. This represents an approximately 70% reduction in the range of applied active ingredient amounts without loss of effectiveness, as demonstrated in Examples 5 and 6. One method to achieve this aqueous dilution involves taking a volume between 62.5 ml and 450 ml of the insecticidal composition of the present invention per hectare to be treated, adding water until the volume of liquid set in the application equipment is reached, and mixing until homogeneous.

[0055] Another object of the present invention is a process for obtaining the insecticidal composition in the form of a time-stable nanoemulsion.

[0056] To achieve a nanoemulsion, it is necessary to apply external energy for its formation, as these thermodynamically unstable systems require energy to convert the separate components into a colloidal dispersion, as well known in the state of the art. Therefore, to obtain the insecticidal composition of the present invention, equipment designed to generate nanoemulsions must be used, such as, but not limited to, a stirred tank with a high-shear disperser (dissolver type) operating at 3,000 rpm.

[0057] In the preferred embodiment, the process comprises the steps of:

[0058] (a) loading the protective agent for iufenuron, lufenuron, and the oil solvent into a stirred tank;

[0059] (b) adding profenofos with at least 95% purity to the stirred tank and mixing until a homogeneous, crystalline solution Is obtained;

[0060] (c) adding the protective agent 'for profenofos to the stirred tank and mixing until homogenized;

[0061] (d) while stirring, adding the surfactant to the stirred tank;

[0062] (e) while stirring, adding the emulsifying agent to the stirred tank;

[0063] (f) while stirring, adding the dispersing agent to the stirred tank;

[0064] (g) While stirring, adding the stabilizing agent to the stirred tank;

[0065] (h) mixing the solution until homogenized;

[0066] (i) while stirring, adding the aqueous solvent to the stirred tank;

[0067] (j) mixing the solution until it takes on a milky white color;

[0068] (k) while stirring, adding the rheological agent, biocidal agent, and antifoaming agent to the stirred tank, in a preferred embodiment, said step (a) of loading the protective agent, for lufenuron, iufenuron, and oil solvent into a stirred tank comprises the steps of: al. loading the protective agent for lufenuron into 3 stirred tank; a2. loading lufenuron with at least 96% purity into the stirred tank and stirring until completely dissolved; aS. loading the oil solvent into the stirred tank.

[0069] This preferred embodiment is used in Example 7 to prepare the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0070] Example 9 demonstrates that the process for obtaining the insecticidal composition of the present invention results in a dispersion of particles at the nanometric scale.

[0071] Examples

[0072] To illustrate various details and aspects of the present invention, the following examples are provided without limiting the scope of the present invention. [0093] Example 8: Efficacy Test of the Insecticidal Composition of th® Present Invention A test was conducted to determine the efficacy of different insecticides and doses for the control of defoliating caterpillars in soybean cultivation, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 replicates. The test was carried out on a lot of STS Soybeans sown in early December (DM4615). Five days before planting, the herbicides Flumioxacin (150 cm3 / ha), Acetochlor (1.5 l. / ha), glyphosate (2.5 L / ha), 2-4 D (700 cm3 / ha), and ligate (100 cm3 / ha) were applied. Two days after planting, glyphosate (2.5 L / ha) and Heat (35 g / ha) were applied. The trial was conducted on a plot located at 32“ 43' 20" South, 62" 06' 26" West, known as the "Marcos Juarez series," The Marcos Juarez series is a typical Argiudol, dark, deep, and well-drained soil of nearly flat mounds (high plains of the first step), developed on loess sediment of silty loam texture, constituting a typical representative of good soils in the area, suitable for craps, fodder, and pastures. The arable layer up to a depth of 20 or 23 cm is very dark grayish-brown, with a silty loam texture and blocky and granular structure. At the base of this horizon, the presence of a plow pan is very common in the area. Below it, it gradually transitions to a more clayey horizon extending from approximately 26 to 30 cm down to around 66 cm. Its color is brawn to dark brown, with a prismatic structure and abundant varnishes on the faces of the aggregates. The transition between this horizon and the loess substrate is very gradual. This substrate is found at an average depth of 95 cm to 1 m; it is a loose, silty loam material with dispersed limestone and concretions from 1.40 to 1-50 m deep. The soils of the Marcos Juarez series are fertile and productive, with good moisture retention capacity, and are used for both intensive or extensive agriculture and livestock. The experimental unit consisted of plots with 8 rows spaced 0.52 cm apart by 10 m in length, A 1-meter buffer area was left between plots, which were marked 2 days prior to application. Mo phytotoxicity was observed in any treatment during the test.

[0094] The application was carried out with a CO2-powered backpack sprayer regulated to 70 L / ha. Hollow cone nozzles 800067 were used. The temperature was 27 *C with 65% relative humidity. Evaluations were conducted at 2, 5, 11, and 18 days after application, counting larvae present, categorized by species and size. The sampling involved tapping 1 meter of row and conducting 3 measurements per plot. At the start of the test, the soybeans were at the R5 stage. The species representing more than 90% of the population in the trial was Anticarsiagemmatalis. The treatment identified as "Control" was an untreated absolute control. The treatment identified as "125ME" was performed with the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose of 125 cm3 / ha, equating to active ingredient doses of 31.25 g / ha of profenofos and 3,125 g / ha of lufenuron. The treatment identified as "250ME" was performed with the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose of 250 cm3 / ha, equating to active ingredient doses of

[0095] 62.5 g / ha of profenofos and 6.25 g / ha of lufenuron. The treatment identified as "350ME" was performed with the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose of 350 cm3 / ha, equating to active ingredient doses of 87.5 g / ha of profenofos and 8.75 g / ha of lufenuron, The treatment identified as "450ME" was conducted with the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron), at a close of 450 cm3 / ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 112.5 g / ha of profenofos and 11.25 g / ha of lufenuron.

[0096] The treatment identified as "250EC" was conducted with a commercial pesticide (Curyom®, from Syngenta) containing the same active ingredients (50% w / v profenofos and 5% w / v lufenuron), at a dose of 250 cm3 / ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 125 g / ha of profenofos and 12.5 g / ha of lufenuron. According to the product label of said commercial pesticide, the recommended dose is between 200 cm3 / ha and 300 crn / ha, with the chosen dose being the midpoint of the recommended range.

[0097] Table 6 shows the results obtained by analyzing larvae larger than 1.5 cm at 2, 5, and 11 days after application (DAA) of the various treatments. In this table, "No. larvae" refers to the statistical mean of surviving larvae larger than 1.5 cm, the letters (A, B, C) indicate values that are not significantly different, and "Effectiveness" is calculated for each treatment based on the number of surviving larvae larger than 1.5 cm in the control treatment using the following formula:

[0098] Effectiveness (%)-100xNo. larvae > 1.5 cm in Control-No. larvae > 1-5 cmNo. larva e > 1.5 cm in Control\text(Effectiveness (\%)} - 100 \times \frac{\text{No. larvae > 1.5 cm in Control} ■ \text{No. larvae > 1.5 cm}|{\text{No. larvae > 1.5 cm in

[0100] The results corresponding to 18 days after application (DAA) were omitted due to lack of convergence In the results., as values were close to zero. Figure 1 illustrates the number of surviving larvae larger than 1,5 cm for each treatment at 2, 5, and 11 days after application (DAA).

[0101] Figure 2 displays the number of surviving larvae larger than 1.5 cm for each treatment at 2, 5, and 11 days after application (DAA),

[0102] Table 7 shows the results obtained by analyzing larvae of any size at 2, 5, and 11 days after application (DAA) of the various treatments. In this table, "No, larvae" is the statistical mean of surviving larvae of any size, the letters (A, B, C, D) indicate values that. are not significantly different, and "Effectiveness" is calculated for each treatment based on the number of surviving larvae in the control treatment using the following formula:

[0103] Effectiveness (%)--10QxNo. larvae in Control~No, larvaeNo. larvae in Control\text{Effe ctiveness (\%)} ~ 100 \times \frac{\text{No. larvae in Control} - \text{No. !arvae}}{\text{No. larvae in

[0104] Control ^Effectiveness (%)~100xNo. larvae in ControlNo. larvae in Control™No. larvae

[0105] The results corresponding to 18 days after application (DA A} were omitted due to lack of convergence in the results, as values were close to zero.

[0106] Figure 4 shows the number of surviving larvae for each treatment at 2, 5, and 11 days after application (DAA).

[0107] Figure 5 displays the percentage effectiveness for each treatment at 2, 5, and 1'1 days after application (DAA).

[0108] From the analysis of the results, it can be concluded that from 11 days after application (DAA) onwards, the insecticidal composition of the present invention, identified as "12.5ME," shows a slightly higher effectiveness than the treatment identified as "250EC" (corresponding to the commercial pesticide), but with an active ingredient dose four times lower than that of said commercial pesticide. Moreover, the minimum recommended dose of 200 cm3 / ha on the label of the commercial pesticide implies an active ingredient dose of 10 g / ha of lufenuron end 100 g / ha of profenofos. Therefore, the insecticidal composition of the present invention, identified as "125ME,ridemonstrates maintaining control efficacy with an active ingredient dose approximately 70% lower than the minimum recorded dose for this combination of active ingredients.

[0109] Example 9: Synergistic Effect Test of the Insecticidal Composition of the Present Invention

[0110] A test was conducted to verify the synergistic effect resulting from the use of methyl salicylate in the insecticidal composition of the present invention,

[0111] Rachiplusia nu iarvae, a common defoliating species often found alongside Anticarsiagemmatalis but with higher insecticide tolerance, were raised. Sixteen iarvae were placed in each ceil and fed with soybean leaf discs treated with the compositions. Two counts of live larvae were performed, one at 48 hours postapplication and another at 96 hours post-application. The test was conducted with five replicates.

[0112] The treatment labeled as "Control" was the absolute control, without any substances added.

[0113] The treatment labeled as "125ME" was performed using the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2,5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose equivalent to 125 cm?7'ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 31.25 g / ha of profenofos and 3.125 g / ha of lufenuron.

[0114] The treatment labeled as "125ME.SIA" was conducted with a variation of the insecticidal composition of the present invention that did not contain active ingredients (0% w / v profenofos and 0% w / v lufenuron) at a dose equivalent to 125 cm3 / ha.

[0115] The treatment labeled as "125ME.SAPL" was performed with a variation of the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose equivalent to 125 cm3 / ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 31.25 g / ha of profenofos and 3.125 g / ha of lufenuron. This variation did not contain butyl salicylate (the protective agent for lufenuron).

[0116] The treatment labeled as "62.5ME" was conducted with the insecticidal composition of the present invention (25% w / v profenofos and 2.5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose equivalent to 62.5 cm3 / ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 15,625 g / ha of profenofos and 1.5625 g / ha of lufenuron. The treatment labeled as "62.5EC" was performed with a commercial insecticide (Curyom® by Syngenta) with the same active ingredients (50% w / v profenofos and 5% w / v lufenuron) at a dose equivalent to 62.5 cm5 / ha, implying an active ingredient dose of 31,25 g / ha of profenofos and 3.125 g / ha of lufenuron. This dose was used for comparison purposes, given that the minimum recommended dose for this commercial insecticide, according to the label, is 200 cm3 / ha, which implies an active ingredient dose of 100 g / ha of profenofos and 10 g / ha of lufenuron.

[0117] Table 8 summarizes the results of the different treatments.

[0118] Figure 6 shows the number of surviving larvae for each treatment at 48 and 96 hours.

[0119] Both the "Control” treatment and the "125ME.SIA" treatment, which lack active ingredients, show complete larva! survival, confirming that the active ingredients are essential for achieving the insecticidal effect.

[0120] The treatments "125ME,” "125ME.SAPL," and "62.5EC” involve the same dose of active ingredients per unit area (31.25 g / ha of profenofos and 3.125 g / ha of lufenuron). The ”125ME" treatment, corresponding to the insecticidal composition of the present invention, shows slightly higher effectiveness than the "62.5EC" treatment corresponding to the commercial insecticide. When comparing the "125ME" treatment, representing the insecticidal composition of the present invention, with the "125ME.SAPL" treatment, which is a variation of the composition without butyl salicylate, the synergistic effect of butyl salicylate with the active ingredients is evident. The,i62.5ME” treatment, which represents the insecticidal composition of the present invention, has the same effectiveness as the ’’52.5EC" commercial insecticide treatment, but with half the dose of active ingredients per unit area, demonstrating the superior effectiveness achieved through the synergistic effect of the insecticidal composition of the present invention.

[0121] Example 10: Efficacy Test of the Insecticidal Composition of the Present Invention

[0122] The experimental design consisted of microplots, typically 3 m x ID m, arranged in completely randomized blocks with four replications.

[0123] Evaluations were performed using a vertical cloth one meter wide, shaking the foliage against the cloth and collecting the larvae for counting. Larvae were classified by size (<: or > 1,5 cm). Three samples were taken per plot.

[0124] During the 2020-2021 season, in the localities of Balcarce, Ferre, and Margarita, artificial infestation was conducted due to the low natural pressure of Rachipkisia nu. Larvae under the third instar (<1.5 cm) were artificially infested on soybean crops at the R4 stage. Five linear meters within each plot were infested, selecting the central rows and placing 50 larvae per meter. The larvae were carefully placed with a brush on the crop leaves, distributing them evenly throughout the plant canopy. Sufficient time was allowed for the larvae to move naturally before the application of the treatments. The larvae of Rachiplusia nu used for infestation originated from a laboratory population, reared on an artificial diet under controlled conditions (25 ± 2°C, 70 ± 10% relative humidity, and a 14-hour photophase) in the entomology laboratory of Agidea SRL, located in Pergamino, Buenos Aires, The mortality rate of the population under controlled breeding conditions was 10%. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted using the treatments and trial replicates (locations) as classification variables, with the pest population density as the dependent variable. Treatments with doses of 65 cc / ha and 450 cc / ha were not considered in the overall analysis, as they were only tested in certain locations. The average larval count data were transformed using the square root method to homogenize variances. The means were compared using the Tukey test with significance thresholds of a-0.05 and a-0.10. The statistical program used was InfoStat®.

[0135] The trials conducted over multiple agricultural seasons and in different agroecological zones show an infestation level of Antfcarsiagemmatafls and Raahipfesib nu in accordance with economic damage thresholds where the insecticide composition of the present invention, at. a dose of 250 cc / ha, exhibited good performance, similar to the commercial control. It demonstrated control efficacy equivalent to that of a known effective commercial product but using 50% less active ingredients. The microemulsion formulation technology enhances the activity of the active ingredients, aiding in the reduction of their concentration and decreasing environmental impact.

[0136] Example 10: Particle size determination of the nanoemulsion of the insecticidal composition of the present invention A sample of the insecticidal composition of the present invention, as described In Example 2 and obtained following the procedure in Example 7, was characterized to determine the average size of the particles present in it. Micrographs were taken, showing the corresponding scale. The observation was conducted using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with a Philips CM 200 transmission electron microscope, operated at 1.60 kV.

[0137] The sample of the insecticidal composition of the present invention was prepared within the hour before observation in the TEM. Five pL of uranyl acetate was added to 100 pl of the sample and stirred . A drop of the sample was placed on a 3 mm diameter- grid, with the excess removed using filter paper, and dried under an infrared lamp before placing the grid in the TEM sample holder.

[0138] As shown in Figure 6, the particle sizes in the sample were observed to range between 40 nm and 200 nm in diameter, qualifying it as a nanoemulsion.
