REACTIVE POLYURETHANE HOT MELT ADHESIVE COMPOSITION, PROCESS FOR PREPARING THESAME, ARTICLE AND USETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of adhesives. In particular, the present invention relates to a reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition, a process for preparing the same, an article comprising an adhesive layer formed by the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition, and use of an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer as defined in a reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition for improving creep resistance of an adhesive layer formed by the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition.BACKGROUND

[0002] Reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesives (HMPUR) are widely used in the field of electronic component assembly, especially in the field of acoustic electronic component assembly. In these applications, electronic components are often subjected to a high- temperature and high-humidity (85°C / 85% RH) environment. Long-term exposure to such an environment can lead to de-bonding of the adhesives that is used for bonding the electronic components or for sealing and air leakage, which in turn can lead to performance degradation of the product, or even product damage. Therefore, the properties of the adhesive needs to be further improved. In practice, the properties of the adhesive in this regard is often reflected by the ability of the bonded area formed by the adhesive to withstand shear forces continuously under a high-temperature and high-humidity (85°C / 85% RH) environment (called as creep resistance) by researchers. The creep resistance of the hot melt polyurethane adhesives is generally improved by adopting the following two ways in the prior art: one is to increase the content of isocyanates such as diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MD I ), but this way easily causes a large number of bubbles to be generated after the adhesive is cured, and thus increases the possibility of air leakage, and affects the appearance; and another is to increase the content of raw materials with a high melting point, but this way tends to cause a decrease in wettability oran increase in viscosity of the adhesive. They may lead to a reduction in assembly time (also known as open time), and thus affects the processing properties of the adhesive, or affecting the coating process performance of the adhesive.

[0003] In view of the deficiencies of the prior art, there still needs to find a new reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive that at least partially addresses at least one of the above- mentioned deficiencies. In particular, there still needs to provide a new reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive that is able to impart excellent creep resistance.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present disclosure is made in view of the problems existing in the prior art.

[0005] In a first aspect, the present invention relates to a reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition prepared by a first raw material comprising: component (1): an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El comprising a first reaction product of a polyol comprising a polyether polyol Al, a polyester polyol Bl, or a combination thereof, with a polyisocyanate DI; and component (2): which is either component (2-1): a polyether polyol A2; a polyester polyol B2; a thermoplastic resin C2; and a polyisocyanate D2, in an amount such that the NCO / OH molar ratio R2-1 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the component (2-1) to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the component (2-1) is strictly greater than 1, preferably greater than or equals to 1.5; or component (2-2):an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer E2, which is different from the isocyanate- terminated prepolymer El, and is prepared by a second raw material comprising a polyether polyol A2, a polyester polyol B2, a thermoplastic resin C2, and a polyisocyanate D2.

[0009] In addition, the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition of the present invention also exhibits at least one of the following advantages: an excellent bonding strength, preferably a bonding strength of at least 5 MPa, at least 6 MPa, or at least 6.5 MPa on a polycarbonate substrate; very little bubble generation; excellent aging resistance; a suitable viscosity, preferably a viscosity of 1500-3800 mPa.s, preferably 2000-3500 mPa.s at 110°C; a suitable assembly time; anda bio-content of more than 60% by weight, preferably more than 70% by weight, based on the total weight of the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition.

[0010] In a second aspect, the invention relates to a process for preparing the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition as defined herein, comprising:

[0012] In a third aspect, the invention relates to an article comprising: a first substrate; a second substrate; and an adhesive layer formed on the interface between the first substrate and the second substrate by curing the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition as defined herein.

In addition, the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition of the present invention exhibits an excellent aging resistance, suitable viscosity and suitable assembly time, and has a high bio-content.

On the other hand, the obtained reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition does not contain too many isocyanate monomers, thereby reducing or even avoiding harm to the environment and health of the workers due to excessive volatility of the isocyanate monomers.

Once the two substrates became detached, the weight fell off. The duration of time before the weight fell off was recorded.(iv) Each sample was tested in duplicate for 5 times and averaged.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition prepared by a first raw material comprising: component (1): an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El comprising a first reaction product of a polyol comprising a polyether polyol Al, a polyester polyol Bl, or a combination thereof, with a polyisocyanate DI; and component (2): which is either component (2-1): a polyether polyol A2; a polyester polyol B2; a thermoplastic resin C2; and a polyisocyanate D2, in an amount such that the NCO / OH molar ratio R2-1 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the component (2-1) to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the component (2-1) is strictly greater than 1, preferably greater than or equals to 1.5; or component (2-2): an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer E2, which is different from the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El, and is prepared by a second raw material comprising a polyether polyol A2, a polyester polyol B2, a thermoplastic resin C2, and a polyisocyanate D2.

2. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to claim 1, wherein the first raw material comprises: the polyether polyol A2; the polyester polyol B2; the thermoplastic resin C2;the polyisocyanate D2, in an amount such that the NCO / OH molar ratio R2-1 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the component (2-1) to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the component (2-1) is strictly greater than 1, preferably greater than or equals to 1.5; and the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El.

3. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to claim 1, wherein the first raw material comprises: the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El; and the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer E2.

4. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the first raw material comprises, based on the total weight of the first raw material:2-40 wt %, preferably 5-30 wt %, more preferably 8-25 wt %, more preferably 10-20 wt %, of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El; and10-70 wt %, preferably 10-60 wt %, more preferably 15-50 wt %, of the polyether polyol A2;10-60 wt %, preferably 10-50 wt %, more preferably 15-45 wt %, of the polyester polyol B2;2-20 wt %, preferably 2-15 wt %, more preferably 5-10 wt %, of the thermoplastic resin C2;8-50 wt %, preferably 10-40 wt %, more preferably 10-20 wt %, of the polyisocyanate D2; or, based on the total weight of the first raw material:2-40 wt %, preferably 5-30 wt %, more preferably 8-25 wt %, more preferably 10-20 wt %, of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El; and60-98 wt %, preferably 70-95 wt %, more preferably 75-92 wt %, of the isocyanate- terminated prepolymer E2.

5. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein one, two, three, four, five, or six of the following conditions is / are satisfied:(1) the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition is in the range of 2.5-6.0 wt %, preferably in the range of 3.0-5.0 wt %, based on the total weight of the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition;(2) the NCO / OH molar ratio R1 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the polyisocyanate DI used to form the prepolymer El to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the polyol(s) used to form the prepolymer El is in the range of 2.0 to 4.0;(3) the NCO / OH molar ratio R2-2 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the second raw material to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the second raw material is in the range of 1.5 to 4.5, preferably in the range of 2.0 to 4.0;(4) the NCO / OH molar ratio R2-1 of the total amount of isocyanate groups contained in the component (2-1) to the total amount of hydroxyl groups contained in the component (2-1) is in the range of 1.5 to 4.5, preferably in the range of 2.0 to 4.0;(5) at least one of the polyether polyol Al, the polyester polyol Bl, the polyether polyol A2, and the polyester polyol B2 is at least partially bio-based, preferably entirely bio-based; and(6) the bio-content of the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition is higher than 60 wt %, preferably higher than 70 wt %, based on the total weight of the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition.

6. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-5, wherein the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El comprises a first reaction product of:0-70 wt %, preferably 0-60 wt %, of the polyether polyol Al;10-90 wt %, preferably 20-80 wt %, of the polyester polyol Bl; and5-40 wt %, preferably 10-30 wt %, of the polyisocyanate DI, based on the total weight of the polyether polyol Al, the polyester polyol Bl, and the polyisocyanate DI.

7. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-6, wherein the second raw material comprises:5-60 wt %, preferably 10-35 wt %, of the polyether polyol A2;10-60 wt %, preferably 20-55 wt %, of the polyester polyol B2;2-20 wt %, preferably 5-15 wt %, of the thermoplastic resin C2; and5-35 wt %, preferably 10-25 wt %, of the polyisocyanate D2, based on the total weight of the polyether polyol A2, the polyester polyol B2, the thermoplastic resin C2, and the polyisocyanate D2.

8. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-7, wherein one, two, or three of the following conditions is / are satisfied:(7) the thermoplastic resin C2 is selected from one or more of polyesters such as polycaprolactone, thermoplastic polyurethanes, vinyl compounds such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene (meth)acrylate copolymers, (meth)acrylate polymers, preferably (meth)acrylate polymers which preferably contain a hydroxyl group;(8) the thermoplastic resin C2 has a hydroxyl number in the range of 0-10 mg KOH / g, preferably 2-10 mg KOH / g, more preferably 4-10 mg KOH / g; and(9) the thermoplastic resin C2 has a weight average molecular weight of 20,000 to 120,000 g / mol, preferably 25,000 to 100,000 g / mol.

9. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-8, wherein one, two, three, four, or five of the following conditions is / are satisfied:(10) the polyether polyol Al and the polyether polyol A2 are the same as or different from each other;(11) the polyether polyol Al and the polyether polyol A2 are each independently linear or branched;(12) each of the polyether polyol Al and the polyether polyol A2 is independently selected from polyalkylene glycols, for example polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol such as poly(l,2-propylene glycol) and poly(l,3-propylene glycol), polybutylene glycol, polytetramethylene glycol, or a mixture thereof; an adduct of at least one compound selected from ethylene glycol, 1,2- propylene glycol, 1,3-propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, triethylene glycol, 2-ethyl-l,3-hexanediol, 1,2,6-hexanetriol, trimethylolpropane, trimethylolethane, tris(hydroxyphenyl)propane, triethanolamine, and triisopropanolamine with at least one compound selected from ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and butylene oxide; or a mixture thereof;(13) each of the polyether polyol Al and the polyether polyol A2 independently has a hydroxyl number in the range of 10-90 mg KOH / g, preferably 40-70 mg KOH / g; and(14) each of the polyether polyol Al and the polyether polyol A2 independently has a number average molecular weight of 1,500 to 5,000 g / mol, preferably 2,000 to 3,000 g / mol.

10. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1- 9, wherein one, two, three, four, or five of the following conditions is / are satisfied:(15) the polyester polyol Bl and the polyester polyol B2 are the same as or different from each other;(16) each of the polyester polyol Bl and the polyester polyol B2 independently comprises at least one solid polyester polyol Bll, at least one liquid polyester polyol B12, or a mixture of at least one solid polyester polyol Bll and at least one liquid polyester polyol B12, preferably a mixture of the at least one solid polyester polyol Bll and the at least one liquid polyester polyol B12 in a weight ratio of 0.8-4.0, preferably 1.0-2.0, preferably, more than 60 wt % of the polyester polyol Bll is a crystalline polyester polyol, which preferably has a melting point higher than 45°C, preferably higher than 50°C;(17) the polyester polyol Bl is prepared by condensation reaction of at least one first polybasic acid such as a first dibasic acid, with at least one first polyol such as a first diol, or by reaction of at least one first polyol such as a first diol with at least one first lactone or first hydroxy carboxylic acid compound;the polyester polyol B2 is prepared by condensation reaction of at least one second polybasic acid such as a second dibasic acid, with at least one second polyol such as a second diol, or by reaction of at least one second polyol such as a second diol with at least one second lactone or second hydroxy carboxylic acid compound; the polyester polyol Bll is prepared by condensation reaction of at least one third polybasic acid such as a third dibasic acid, with at least one third polyol such as a third diol, or by reaction of at least one third polyol such as a third diol with at least one third lactone or third hydroxy carboxylic acid compound; or the polyester polyol B12 is prepared by condensation reaction of at least one fourth polybasic acid such as a fourth dibasic acid, with at least one fourth polyol such as a fourth diol, or by reaction of at least one fourth polyol such as a fourth diol with at least one fourth lactone or fourth hydroxy carboxylic acid compound; wherein: the first to fourth polybasic acids are the same as or different from each other, and are each independently selected from the group consisting of linear or cyclic C2-C40 polybasic acids such as dibasic acids, for example linear C2-C20 such as C2-C12 polybasic acids for example dibasic acids such as oxalic acid, malonic acid, succinic acid such as 1,4-succinic acid, pentanedioic acid, adipic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid, dodecanedioic acid, tetradecanedioic acid, octadecanedioic acid; cyclic polybasic acids for example dibasic acids such as terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, phthalic acid, and cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid; branched polybasic acids for example dibasic acids such as dimerized or trimerized C10-C36, preferably C12-C24 fatty acids for example dimerized or trimerized products of oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, or palmitoleic acid; or a mixture thereof; the first to fourth polyols are the same as or different from each other, and are each independently selected from the group consisting of C2-C12 polyols for example diols such as ethylene glycol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,5-pentanediol, 1,6- hexanediol, 1,8-octanediol, 1,10-decanediol, 1,12-dodecanediol, or a mixture thereof;the first to fourth lactones are the same as or different from each other, and are each independently selected from the group consisting of C4-C10 lactone for example butyrolactone, valerolactone, caprolactone, heptalactone, decanolactone, or a mixture thereof; and the first to fourth hydroxy carboxylic acids are the same as or different from each other, and are each independently selected from the group consisting of C2-C10 hydroxy carboxylic acids for example hydroxyacetic acids such as 2-hydroxyacetic acid, hydroxypropionic acids such as 3- hydroxypropionic acid, hydroxybutanoic acids such as 4-hydroxybutanoic acid, hydroxypentanoic acids such as 5-hydroxypentanoic acid, hydroxyhexanoic acids such as 6-hydroxyhexanoic acid, hydroxyheptanoic acids such as 7-hydroxyheptanoic acid, hydroxydecanoic acids such as 10- hydroxydecanoic acid, or a mixture thereof;(18) each of the polyester polyol Bl, the polyester polyol B2, the polyester polyol Bll, and the polyester polyol B12 independently has a hydroxyl number in the range of 20-90 mg KOH / g, preferably 25-70 mg KOH / g; or(19) each of the polyester polyol Bl, the polyester polyol B2, the polyester polyol Bll, and the polyester polyol B12 independently has a number average molecular weight of 1,000-5,000 g / mol, preferably 1,500-4,000 g / mol.

11. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1- 10, wherein the polyisocyanate DI and the polyisocyanate D2 are the same or different from each other, and are each independently selected from aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic polyisocyanates for example diisocyanates, such as diphenylmethane diisocyanate MDI and isomers thereof such as diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate, diphenylmethane-2,2'- diisocyanate, and diphenylmethane-2,4'-diisocyanate; toluene diisocyanate and isomers thereof such as toluene-2,4-diisocyanate and toluene-2,6-diisocyanate; isophorone diisocyanate; and hydrogenated aromatic diisocyanates such as hydrogenated MDI; or a mixture thereof.

12. The reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-11, wherein one, two or three of the following conditions is / are satisfied:(20) the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El has a number average molecular weight of 4000- 7000 g / mol;(21) the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer E2 has a number average molecular weight of 4000- 7000 g / mol; and(22) the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition has a number average molecular weight of 4000-7000 g / mol.

13. A reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition, prepared by a process comprising the following: i) mixing a polyether polyol A2, a polyester polyol B2 and a thermoplastic resin C2 to obtain a mixture; and ii) adding a polyisocyanate D2 and an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El to the mixture, preferably, adding the polyisocyanate D2 first and then the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El, wherein the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El comprises the reaction product of a polyol comprising a polyether polyol Al, a polyester polyol Bl, or a combination thereof, with a polyisocyanate DI.

14. A process for preparing the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-12, comprising: mixing an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El and an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer E2; or i) mixing a polyether polyol A2, a polyester polyol B2 and a thermoplastic resin C2 to obtain a mixture; and ii) adding a polyisocyanate D2 and an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El to the mixture, preferably, adding the polyisocyanate D2 first and then the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El,wherein the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El comprises the reaction product of a polyol comprising a polyether polyol Al, a polyester polyol Bl, or a combination thereof, with a polyisocyanate DI.

15. An article comprising: a first substrate; a second substrate; and an adhesive layer formed on the interface between the first substrate and the second substrate by curing the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition according to any one of claims 1-13.

16. Use of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer El as defined in any one of claims 1-13 in a reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition for improving creep resistance of an adhesive layer formed by the reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesive composition.
