Abstract

The invention relates to a device (1) and a method for producing hydrogen (16) and oxygen (9) comprising the steps of: a) producing an electrolysis gas (3) containing hydrogen (16) and oxygen (9) by electrolysis of water using an electrolyte medium (4); b) diluting the electrolysis gas (3) with a dilution fluid (6) to obtain a diluted mixture (7) whose composition is outside an explosive range; c) separating at least some of the oxygen (9) or at least some of the hydrogen (16) from the diluted mixture (7).
