Abstract

Provided herein are compositions and methods for treating keratinous materials, such as hair or skin. The compositions may include one or more dairy milks, plant-based milks, or grains; one or more hair agents; one or more powdered carbohydrates; one or more amino acids; one or more carrier materials; and one or more additives. The methods may comprise preparing the compositions by mixing the components with a liquid to form a paste, gel, or viscous liquid. Methods of treatment may include applying the composition to keratinous material, such as hair or skin.

[0003] Compositions are often used in the hair and beauty industries. In some applications, compositions may be used to treat, protect, or otherwise enhance keratinous tissue, such as, e.g., hair or skin. To treat hair, compositions including various components may be applied in various formulations. Such compositions are used to strengthen and / or fortify hair, e.g., by hydrating and / or softening the hair, improving length retention of the hair, reducing breakage of the hair, reducing shedding of the hair, protecting hair from environmental aggressors and / or stress caused by brushing or styling, and / or delivering nutrients to support optimal hair follicle and scalp health, as well as to facilitate styling and / or hair appearance. However, providing a composition in a convenient formulation that may deliver one or more of the above-listed benefits can present challenges such as, e.g., maintaining a desired shelf life; excessive consumption or use when the composition is provided or stored in a liquid, gel, or paste form; and / or undesired or untimely drying out of the composition when provided or stored as a liquid, gel, or paste. [0004] The present disclosure includes compositions and related methods useful for treating keratinous materials, such as hair and / or skin.

[0005] In some aspects, the composition comprises one or more dairy milks, plant-based milks, or grains; one or more hair agents; one or more powdered carbohydrates; one or more amino acids; one or more carrier materials; and one or more additives. In some aspects, the one or more dairy milks, plant-based milks, or grains is present in an amount ranging from about 1% to about 70% by weight, relative to a total weight of the composition. Additionally or alternatively, the one or more hair agents may be present in an amount ranging from about 0.01% to about 20% by weight, relative to a total weight of the composition. For example, the composition may be a dry powder including a plurality of particles, e.g., wherein the particles do not stick to one another. The composition may be formulated for mixing with a liquid (e.g., a liquid such as water, an aqueous solution, a solvent such as alcohol, or a combination thereof) prior to application to hair. According to some aspects of the present disclosure, the composition is in the form of a free-flowing powder that is at least partially soluble, e.g., completely soluble, in water at a temperature ranging from about 20°C to about 45°C, such as from about 25°C to about 40°C. In some aspects, the composition may comprise, by weight relative to a total weight of the composition: about 1% to about 70% of the one or more dairy milks, plant-based milks, or grains; about 0.01% to about 20% of the one or more hair agents; about 1% to about 20% of the one or more powdered carbohydrates; about 0.01% to about 40% of the one or more amino acids; about 20% to about 80% of the one or more carrier materials; and about 0.01% to about 20% of the one or more additives, wherein the one or more additives comprises a chelating agent, a pH adjustor, a preservative, a colorant, a fragrance, or a combination thereof.

[0006] In some examples, the one or more amino acids of the composition may include alanine, beta-alanine, arginine, asparagine, aspartic acid, citrulline, cysteine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, histidine, hydroxyproline, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, nitroarginine, 3-nitrotyrosine, norleucine, ornithine, phenylalanine, proline, pyroglutamatic acid, pyrrolysine, selenocysteine, serine, threonine, tryptophan, tyrosine, valine, an L-enantiomer thereof, or a combination thereof. In some examples, the one or more plant-based milks of the composition may include oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, soy milk, pea milk, and / or rice milk, or a combination thereof. In some examples, the one or more grains of the composition may include rice, wheat, oat, sorghum, almond, coconut, rice flour, wheat flour, oat flour, sorghum flour, almond flour, coconut flour, hydrolyzed rice milk protein, hydrolyzed wheat milk protein, hydrolyzed oat milk protein, hydrolyzed sorghum milk protein, hydrolyzed almond milk protein, hydrolyzed coconut milk protein, or a combination thereof. In some examples, the liquid may have a temperature ranging from about 20°C to about 45°C, such as about 25°C to about 40°C. In some examples, the composition may completely dissolve in the liquid. In some examples, a weight ratio of the composition to the liquid is about 0.05. The method may further comprise rinsing the paste, gel, or viscous liquid from the hair after the application. For example, the paste, gel, or viscous liquid may be applied to the hair for about 1 minute to about 10 minutes, such as about 5 minutes, before the rinsing. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
