[0069] The term "discrete" with respect to discrete illuminators may refer to an illumination source that generates light internally - this is in contrast to a non-discrete illuminator which may be, for example, an optical fiber that transmits only remotely generated light.

[0070] Reference now Figure 1 as well as Figure 2A and Figure 2B , which shows a perspective view of the tip portion 200 of the endoscope assembly 100 according to one embodiment.

[0071] The top cover 300 may be configured to fit over the interior of the top end portion including the electronic circuit board assembly 400 and the fluid directing assembly 600 and provide protection for the internal components therein.

[0072] The top cover 300 may include a front panel 320 having a transparent surface, window or opening for a front optical lens assembly 256 of a forward looking camera or viewing element 116. The front optical lens assembly 256 may include a plurality of static or movable lenses that may provide a field of view of greater than 90 degrees, greater than 120 degrees, or up to substantially 180 degrees. The front optical lens assembly 256 may provide a focal length in the range of approximately 3 to 100 millimeters.

[0073] The optical axis of the forward viewing camera or viewing element 116 can be directed substantially along the long dimension of the endoscope. However, since the front viewing element 116 is typically a wide angle viewing element, its field of view can include viewing directions at large angles to its optical axis. Additionally, the front panel 320 can include optical windows 242a, 242b, and 242c for illuminators 240a, 240b, and 240c, respectively. It should be noted that the number of illumination sources used to illuminate the field of view can vary.

[0074] Additionally, the front panel 320 may include a working channel opening 340 for a working channel 640. In alternative embodiments, the front panel may include more than one working channel opening.

[0075] The jet channel opening 344 of the jet channel 644 may also be located on the front panel 320 of the top cover 300. The jet channel 644 may be configured to provide a high pressure jet of fluid, such as water or saline, to clean the body cavity wall.

[0076] The syringe opening 346 of the syringe channel 646 can also be located on the front panel 320 of the top cover 300, and the syringe opening 346 has a nozzle 348 aimed at the front optical lens assembly 256. The syringe channel 646 can be configured to inject fluid (liquid and / or gas) to wash away contaminants such as blood, feces and other debris from the surface of the front optical lens assembly 256 of the front viewing element 116. Optionally, the syringe channel 646 can be configured to clean one, two or all of the front optical lens assembly 256 and the optical windows 242a, 242b and 242c. The syringe channel 646 can be supplied with fluid, such as water and / or gas that can be used to clean and / or inflate the body cavity.

[0077] Visible on the side wall 362 of the top cover 300 is a side optical lens assembly 256b for the side viewing element 116b, which can be similar to the front optical lens assembly 256 and optical windows 252a and 252b of the illuminators 250a and 250b for the side viewing element 116b. Also on the side wall 362 of the top cover 300 on the opposite side of the first side optical lens assembly 256b is a second optical lens assembly for a second side viewing element, which can be similar to the side optical lens assembly 256b and optical windows 252a and 252b of the illuminators 250a and 250b for the side viewing element 116b. The first side optical lens assembly 256b can provide a focal length in the range of about 3 to 100 millimeters.

[0078] The optical axis of the first side viewing element 116b can be directed substantially perpendicular to the long dimension of the endoscope. The optical axis of the second side viewing element can be directed substantially perpendicular to the long dimension of the endoscope. However, because each side viewing element typically includes a wide angle camera, its field of view can include viewing directions at large angles to its optical axis. According to some embodiments, each side viewing element has a field of view of greater than 90 degrees, greater than 120 degrees, or up to substantially 180 degrees.

[0079] Additionally, the side syringe opening 266 of the side syringe channel 666 can be located at the distal end of the side wall 362. The spout cover 267 can be configured to fit the side syringe opening 266.

[0080] Additionally, the nozzle cover 267 may include a nozzle 268 that can be aimed at the side optical lens assembly 256b and configured to inject fluid to wash away contaminants, such as blood, feces, and other debris, from the surface of the side optical assembly 256b of the side viewing element 116b. The fluid may include a gas that can be used to inflate the body cavity. Optionally, the nozzle 268 can be configured to clean the side optical lens assembly 256b and the optical windows 252a and / or 252b.

[0081] According to some embodiments, the side syringe channel 666 can be configured to supply fluid to clean any of the top elements (such as any optical components, optical lens assemblies, windows, illuminators, and other components).

[0082] Optionally, syringe channel 646 and side syringe channel 666 may be supplied from the same channel.

[0083] It should be noted that according to some embodiments, although the top portion 200 is presented herein as shown with one side thereof, the opposite side may include elements similar to the side elements described herein (e.g., side viewing elements, side optical lens assemblies, syringes, nozzles, illuminators, windows, openings, and other elements).

[0084] The side wall 362 may be in the form of a substantially flat surface that helps direct the cleaning fluid injected from the syringe channel 666 toward the side optical lens assembly 256b and the optical windows 252a and / or 252b. The lack of such a flat surface may cause the cleaning fluid to drip along the curved surface of the tip portion 200 of the endoscope without performing the desired cleaning action.

[0085] According to one embodiment, the side wall 362 is located in a recess / depression in the top cover 300. In this way, the side syringe opening 266 and the corresponding side spout 268 can be raised from the recessed side wall 362, but still not protrude significantly from the level of the cylindrical surface of the top cover 300. According to one aspect of one embodiment, as in Figure 5C As shown in FIG, the side wall 362 is located in a sufficiently well-defined or deep notch / recess 5963 of the top cover 300 so that the lens assembly of the side optical lens assembly 256b remains fully embedded in the notch / recess 363 and well below the level 5900 of the cylindrical surface of the top cover 300. The notch / recess 5963 protects the side wall 362 and components thereof (side optical lens assembly 256b, side illuminators 250a, 250b and side nozzle 268) from longitudinal and lateral mechanical impacts.

[0086] It should be noted that according to some embodiments, the top portion 200 may include more than one side-viewing camera. In this case, the side-viewing cameras may be mounted so that their fields of view are substantially relative. However, within the general scope of the current specification, different configurations and quantities of the side-viewing cameras are also possible.

[0087] The fluid directing assembly 600 includes a side service channel 650 having a side service channel opening 350 .

[0088] Reference now Figure 1 as well as Figure 3A , 3B, 3C and 3D, which show stereoscopic views of the top portion 200 of a multi-nozzle endoscope assembly 6501 that includes multiple side nozzles in addition to a front nozzle to enable improved flushing according to an embodiment of the present specification.

[0089] The top cover 300 includes an electronic circuit board assembly 400 (in Figure 1 ) and the fluid guiding assembly 600 ( Figure 3D 200 and provide protection for the internal components therein. Figure 3D As shown in FIG. 6 , the fluid guide assembly 600 is provided with a hole 670 for the pin of the top cover 300. In addition, Figure 3D A groove 6572 for cables is shown. Top cover 300 includes a front panel 320 having a transparent surface, window or opening for front optical lens assembly 256 for forward looking camera or viewing element 116, and optical windows 242a, 242b and 242c for illuminators 240a, 240b and 240c, respectively.

[0090] The front panel 320 includes a working channel opening 340 of a working channel 640 and a jet channel opening 344 of a jet channel 644. The jet channel 644 is configured to provide a fluid, such as a high pressure jet of water or saline, to clean the body cavity wall. The syringe opening 346 of a syringe channel 646 is also located on the front panel 320 of the top cover 300, and the syringe opening 346 has a nozzle 348 aimed at the front optical lens assembly 256. In one embodiment, the optical axis of the forward looking camera or viewing element 116 is directed substantially along a central longitudinal axis 6503 that runs through the long dimension of the tip of the endoscope 6501 .

[0091] Figure 3B The side wall 362 of the top cover 300 is shown to include a transparent surface, window or opening for the side optical lens assembly 256a of the side viewing viewing element, which can be similar to the front optical lens assembly 256 and the optical windows 252a and 252b of the illuminator for the side viewing viewing element. Figure 3C, the side wall 362 of the top cover 300 on the opposite side from the side optical lens assembly 256a is an optical lens assembly 256b for the side viewing viewing element 116b, and optical windows 252a and 252b for the corresponding illuminators of the side viewing viewing element 116b. In one embodiment, the optical axis of one or both of the side viewing viewing elements or cameras is substantially perpendicular to the optical axis of the front viewing element 116 (which is along the central longitudinal axis 6503 of the endoscope). In one embodiment, the optical axis of one or both of the side viewing viewing elements forms an obtuse angle with the optical axis of the front viewing element 116, while in an alternative embodiment, the optical axis of one or both of the side viewing elements forms an acute angle with the optical axis of the front viewing element 116.

[0092] Additionally, the side syringe openings 266 of the corresponding side syringe channels 666 are located at the respective distal ends of the opposing side walls 362, such as at Figure 3B and 3C . The nozzle cover 267 can be configured to fit the corresponding side syringe opening 266. The nozzle cover includes a nozzle 268, which is aimed at the side optical lens assembly 256a, 256b and is configured to inject fluid to wash away contaminants such as blood, feces and other debris from at least one surface of the side optical lens assembly 256a, 256b of the side viewing observation element. The fluid can include gas, which can be used to inflate the body cavity. Optionally, the nozzle 268 can be configured to clean the side optical lens assembly and two optical windows on the opposite side of the top 200.

[0093] According to some embodiments, the side syringe channel 666 can be configured to supply fluid to clean any of the top elements (such as any optical components, optical lens components, windows, illuminators and other components). Optionally, the syringe channel 646 and the side syringe channel 666 can be supplied from the same channel.

[0094] As in Figures 3A to 3D As shown in , according to an embodiment, two side injection openings 605a, 610a supplied by a common side injection channel 6506 are provided around the side periphery located at the proximal end of the top end 200. Therefore, the two side injection openings 605a, 610a supplied by the common side injection channel 6506 form a Y-shaped fluid conduit, which will be described in more detail below. Figure 3DThe manifold shown in comprises a housing having a partially cylindrical shape having a curved top surface, a partially curved first side, and a partially curved second side, wherein the manifold housing is formed by a base having a first width, a first length, and a proximal surface, and an elongated portion having a second width, a second length, and a distal surface attached to the base, wherein the first width is greater than the second width, and the first length is less than the second length. A first channel 640 extends from the base through the elongated portion, wherein the first channel 640 has an inlet located on the proximal surface of the base and an outlet located on the distal surface of the elongated portion. A second channel 644 extends from the base through the elongated portion, wherein the second channel 644 has an inlet located on the proximal surface of the base and an outlet located on the distal surface of the elongated portion.

[0095] The Y-shaped fluid conduit includes a central stem portion or common side jet channel 6506, a first prong portion 6525, and a second prong portion 6526, wherein the central stem portion 6506 extends through the base from an inlet 607 on a proximal surface of the base, wherein the first prong portion 6525 extends through the base from one end of the central portion to an outlet on a first side of the partial bend; and wherein the second prong portion 6526 extends through the base from one end of the central portion to an outlet on a second side of the partial bend. In one embodiment, the outlet extending from the first prong portion 6525 forms the side jet opening 605a, and the outlet extending from the second prong portion 6526 forms the side jet opening 610a.

[0096] The third channel 646 extends from an inlet on the proximal surface of the base to an outlet on the first side of the partial curve. The fourth channel 6516 extends from an inlet on the proximal surface of the base to an outlet on the second side of the partial curve. Each of the first, second, third and fourth channels is fluidly isolated and separated from each other.

[0097] A common side jet channel 6506 has an inlet port 607 at the proximal end of the fluid directing assembly 600. Similarly, two side jet openings 605b, 610b are provided on opposite sides of the side jet openings 605a and 610a, fed by another common side jet channel. In one embodiment, the two side jet openings 605a, 605b, 610a, 610b on either side of the top are positioned so that the side syringe opening 266 (one on each side of the top) is located between them. Additionally, in one embodiment, the two side jet openings 605a, 605b, 610a, 610b on either side of the top are positioned near the side optical lens assemblies 256a, 256b of the side-viewing cameras (on both sides of the top) so that when fluid is ejected from the side jet openings, the fluid is propelled at an angle of about 45 degrees and passed through the camera so that the physician can see the discharged fluid. The fluid can be water or saline.

[0098] It should be noted that in alternative embodiments, the side jet openings can be configured around the side periphery in any suitable number, including 2, 4, 6 or 8. In addition, the side jet openings can have multiple angle configurations so that the fluid is ejected at different angles relative to the lateral plane of the side optical lens assembly including the side viewing element and the optical window of the corresponding illuminator, but not including the front optical lens assembly of the front viewing element. In one embodiment, the optical axis of the side viewing element is perpendicular to the lateral plane, and the optical axis of the front viewing element along the central longitudinal axis 6503 of the endoscope. These angles of fluid ejection relative to the lateral plane can be in the range of 45 to 60 degrees or 120 to 135 degrees. The acute ejection angle of 45 to 60 degrees enables the fluid to be discharged in the direction of movement of the endoscope, while the obtuse ejection angle of 120 to 135 degrees enables the fluid to be discharged in the direction opposite to the direction of movement of the endoscope, thereby facilitating the movement of the endoscope in the body cavity. This is because if the jet is directed in the direction opposite to the movement of the endoscope, the resistance of the colon wall can push the scope forward like a jet engine.

[0099] According to one embodiment, the side jet opening is located at a distance ranging from 5 to 10 mm, preferably 8.5 to 9.5 mm, from the side optical lens assembly on the circumference of the endoscope so that the fluid ejected from the opening forms an angle in the range of 50 to 60 degrees relative to a lateral plane containing the side optical lens assembly and the corresponding side optical window (but also not containing the front optical lens assembly of the front viewing element). In addition, in one embodiment, the side jet opening has a diameter of about 1.4 to 1.7 mm.

[0100] Reference now Figure 1 and Figures 3A to 3D In one embodiment, a nozzle distributor is provided to supply fluid to each of the side injection openings, such as in Figures 3A to 3D 605a, 605b, 610a, 610b and the front nozzle 344 of the multi-nozzle endoscope tip 6501. The nozzle distributor generally includes three fluid channels to provide fluid to the front nozzle 344, the right nozzles 605a, 610a and the left nozzles 605b, 610b in the endoscope tip.

[0101] FIG. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment of a main connector 4000 known in the prior art. The nozzle connector port 4002 is suitable for use with an endoscope including multiple nozzles. In an embodiment, the nozzle connector port (also referred to as the auxiliary water supply port) 4002 has more than one channel opening to enable the jet to flow to the front nozzle and at least one side nozzle of the multi-nozzle endoscope. The jet channel is located in the utility cable 4004 and is used to guide the fluid through it and travel toward the various front and side jet openings in the distal tip of the multi-nozzle endoscope. In an embodiment, the water bottle port (water connector) 4006 is attached to a water source, such as a water bottle or hospital facilities, to provide fluid to the injection and / or flushing system placed in the endoscope tip. FIG. 4 shows other standard components of the main connector 4000 provided, including an electrical connector 4008 for connecting the system to a power source and thus supplying power to operate the electrical and electronic components of the main connector 4000. The gas channel 4010 can provide gas flow to the endoscope tip. Also shown is an elongate protruding member 4012 which may be adapted to fit into a receiving structure present on a surface of the main control unit.

[0102] refer to Figure 5A and 5B In an embodiment, a bi-directional jet pump 5002 is located outside of the endoscope 5040 and is connected to the main control unit 5032 of the endoscope 5040. In an embodiment, the pump 5002 is connected to the main connector 5030 at a nozzle connector port 5058. In an embodiment, the nozzle connector port 5058 is similar to the nozzle connector port 4002 described in the context of FIG. 4 . Figure 5A An embodiment is shown in which a bidirectional jet pump 5002 enables control of fluid flow through a tube 5050 to a main connector 5030. In an embodiment, a single fluid flow path enables fluid to travel through multiple fluid channels including a front jet channel and / or a side jet channel to be dispersed through a front jet opening and / or a side jet opening located on a front panel and a side panel, respectively, of a distal tip 5020 of an endoscope 5040. In an embodiment, a first combination of fluid channels and a second combination of fluid channels are placed co-linearly within the tube 5050. In an embodiment, the first combination of fluid channels is connected to a front jet channel within the endoscope, which leads to a front jet opening. Similarly, a second combination of fluid channels is connected to a front jet channel and a side jet channel within the endoscope, which leads to a front jet opening and one or more side jet openings.

[0103] As shown, in an embodiment, a bidirectional jet pump 5002 supplies fluid to three jet openings in a nozzle connector port 5058 of an endoscope 5040 via at least three ejection lines 5022, 5024, and 5026, which are connected to side jet channels for fluid dispersion through two side jet openings located on the side wall of the distal tip 5020. Line 5022 is connected to the front jet channel for fluid dispersion through the front jet opening on the front face of the distal tip 5020. Thus, in Figure 5A In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5 , a single pump 5002 enables controlled flow of fluid through the front nozzle or the front and side nozzles.

[0104] The bi-directional jet pump 5002 may be connected to the main control unit 5032 at port 5058 by using a coupling system. Figure 5B An exemplary coupling system 5500 according to an embodiment of the present specification is shown. According to one embodiment of the present specification, the coupling system 5500 includes a water jet connector 5052, which provides a coupling mechanism between a port 5058 and a tube 5050. The tube 5050 is connected to the water jet connector 5052 and the two-way jet pump 5002. In one embodiment, the connector 5052 is a Luer connector or any other type of connector that enables a system of connecting small fluid fittings for leak-free connection between a male cone fitting on a medical device and a female component that mates therewith.

[0105] Figure 5C 5040 . A block diagram is shown of a connection between a bidirectional nozzle pump and an endoscope 5040 according to an embodiment of the present specification. In an embodiment, a bidirectional jet pump comprises a pump, such as a jet pump 5002. The jet pump 5002 pumps fluid from a fluid source, such as a reservoir 5004, via at least two fluid lines 5006 and 5008. In an embodiment, the lines 5006 and 5008 are placed adjacently within a single tube, conduit or line 5050. In an embodiment, the line 5006 forms part of a first combination of fluid passages that supply fluid to the front jet opening 5010, and the line 5008 forms part of a second combination of fluid passages that supply fluid to the front jet opening 5010 and the side jet opening 5018.

[0106] In an embodiment, the first fluid line 5006 provides a path for pumping water for the front jet through the front jet channel 5014 and via the front jet opening 5010 on the front panel 5012 of the distal tip 5020 of the endoscope 5040. Water pumped by the pump 5002 through the first fluid line 5006 can be directed through the front jet channel 5014 to be dispersed from the front jet opening 5010. Figure 5CA fluid path 5032 is shown corresponding to a first combination of fluid channels for fluid to flow toward the front jet opening 5010. Path 5032 is shown in bold through line 5006, via pump 5002, through channel 5014 and toward the front jet opening 5010 of the distal tip.

[0107] In an embodiment, a second fluid line 5008 provides a path for pumping water to the front and one or more side nozzles of the endoscope. Figure 5C A fluid path 5034 corresponding to a second combination of fluid channels is shown for fluid to flow toward a front jet opening 5010 and one or more side jet openings 5018 of an endoscope 5040. Path 5034 is shown in bold dashed lines through line 5008, via pump 5002, and toward the front jet opening 5010 and side jet openings 5018 of the distal tip. Water pumped through the second fluid line 5008 can travel through the front jet channel 5014 and the side jet channel 5016 to be dispersed through the front jet opening 5010 and one or more side jet openings 5018 of the distal tip. The jet openings 5010 and 5018 are located within the distal tip 5020 of the endoscope.

[0108] Pump 5002 is a bidirectional pump suitable for directing fluid jet flow to the front nozzle, to one or more of the side nozzles, or to both the front and side nozzles. Fluid is supplied to three jet openings in the tip 5020 of the endoscope 5040 by pump 5002 via three fluid lines 5022, 5024, and 5026. In an embodiment, each of the three ejection fluid lines 5022, 5024, and 5026 supplies fluid to a fluid channel located within the tip 5020. In an embodiment, lines 5024 and 5026 supply fluid to the side jet channel 5016; and line 5022 supplies fluid to the front jet channel 5014.

[0109] In an embodiment, three ejection fluid pipelines 5022, 5024 and 5026 are located within a tube 5050 including pipelines 5006 and 5008. In an embodiment, a pipeline 5008 is provided for fluid to travel to the front and side injection openings 5010 and 5018 and is connected to at least two or more pipelines branching from the pipeline 5008. In the figure, the pipeline 5008 is shown as branching into pipelines 5022, 5024 and 5026. In an embodiment, the pipelines 5022, 5024 and 5026 are parallel pipelines. The pipeline 5022 is connected to the front injection channel 5014, and the pipelines 5024 and 5026 are connected to the side injection openings 5016. In an embodiment, the pipeline 5006 also merges with the pipeline 5022 for the purpose of subsequently connecting with the front injection channel 5014. In an embodiment, the pipelines 5022, 5024 and 5026 are connected to the front injection channel 5014 through the main connector (at Figure 5BThe three pipelines 5022, 5024 and 5026 are connected to their corresponding channels along the connector 5052 (shown in FIG. Figure 5A and 5B ) is embedded in tube 5050 (in Figure 5A and 5B The lines 5022, 5024 and 5026 are aligned to the connector port 5058 (shown in Figure 5A and 5B The main connector is also connected to a controller unit, which acts as a main control unit for the endoscope.

[0110] In various embodiments, to activate the nozzle and clean the patient's body cavity, the user / physician operating the endoscope 5040 can use an activation system, such as but not limited to a button located on the handle of the endoscope, on the main control unit, or on the control panel of the endoscope, which, when pressed, causes the controller to activate the pump, thereby causing water to flow or shut off in one of two directions. For example, once the button on the endoscope is pressed, the controller in data communication with the button causes the bidirectional jet pump 5002 to begin providing fluid to one, two, or each of the three fluid channels 5022, 5024, and 5026 of the endoscope at a predetermined rate. In another embodiment, pressing the button once can activate the pump so as to apply pressure to the fluid through the pipeline 5006 and supply the fluid to the front nozzle. In this embodiment, pressing the button twice can cause the controller to activate the pump so as to apply pressure to the fluid through the pipeline 5008 and supply the fluid to the front nozzle and the side nozzle. In another embodiment, the user / physician may need to step on the foot pedal to cause the controller to activate the jet pump 5002. Thus, in an embodiment, the two-directional motor / pump 5002 is operated by a depressed button, lever, or any other known trigger or activation mechanism to cause fluid to flow through one, two, and / or all three fluid channels, and pressing the activation mechanism a predetermined number of times corresponds to causing fluid to flow through a particular one or combination of the fluid channels. During operation of an embodiment of the present specification, the user selects the option of supplying fluid through the front jet opening 5010 or through the front jet opening 5010 and the side jet opening 5018.

[0111] If the user selects that fluid is only supplied to the front injection opening 5010, then start pump 5002 to apply pressure to fluid through pipeline 5006. In an embodiment, a series of check valves 5028 are placed along path 5032, and they are also started to control this operation. Each check valve 5028 ensures that fluid flows through the pipeline only in one direction. Pump 5002 pumps fluid in the direction indicated by path 5032, so that fluid is supplied to the front injection opening 5010. The first valve 5028 can be located in the pipeline 5006 between reservoir 5004 and pump 5002, which ensures that fluid flows in the desired direction of path 5032. The second check valve 5028 can be located between pump 5002 and the pipeline 5022 connected to the front injection passage 5014. The second valve 508 also ensures that fluid flows in the direction of path 5032, and pump 5002 then pumps fluid from pipeline 5006 in the same direction.

[0112] Alternatively, if the user chooses to supply fluid to both the front jet opening 5010 and the side jet opening 5018, the pump 5002 is activated to pump fluid through the line 5008 in the opposite direction to the direction for the line 5006. A series of check valves 5029 ensure that the fluid flows in the direction of the path 5034 to supply fluid to the front and side jet openings 5010, 5018. In some embodiments, the first check valve 5029 is positioned along the line 5008 between the reservoir 5004 and the pump 5002. The second check valve 5029 can be positioned along the line 5008 between the pump 5002 and a location before the point where the line 5008 branches into the lines 5022, 5024, and 5026.

[0113] Figure 5DAn exemplary operation of a bidirectional pump 5002 according to an embodiment of the present specification is shown. In an embodiment, the pump 5002 is a peristaltic pump that operates based on alternating compression and relaxation of a tube. The lines 5006 and 5008 can form a single continuous tube that is wound around a rotating tube head or roller 5030. The rotating tube head or roller 5030 forms the pump 5002. The roller 5030 passes along the length of the tube, which creates two ends of the tube on both sides of the roller 5030. These two ends can form two paths 5032 (corresponding to the line 5006) and 5034 (corresponding to the line 5008). During operation, the roller 5030 compresses the tube and creates a seal between the two sides of the tube so that fluid is sucked through a selected one of the two paths 5006 and 5008. The rotation of the roller 5030 in one direction can pull the fluid through one path, while the rotation of the roller 5030 in the opposite direction can pull the fluid through another path. Thus, operation in one direction may supply fluid to the front and side nozzles, while operation in the other direction may supply fluid only to the front nozzle. In an embodiment, a single trigger mechanism (a single button, lever, pedal, or any other) may be switched to change the direction of the pump 5002.

[0114] Figure 6 A flow chart illustrating an exemplary method for controlling the flow direction of a fluid from a source external to an endoscope to a plurality of fluid channels located within the endoscope. Figure 5A , 5B At step 602, the user activates the pump 5002 connected to the tube 5050. In an embodiment, the tube 5050 includes a first and a second combination of fluid channels that are co-linearly disposed within the tube 5050. The first combination of fluid channels corresponding to the path 5032 directs the fluid to the front jet opening 5010; while the second combination of fluid channels corresponding to the path 5034 directs the fluid to the front jet opening 5010 and the side jet opening 5018. Therefore, at step 604, the system determines whether the user has activated the pump to direct the fluid only to the front jet opening 5010 or to both the front jet opening 5010 and the side jet opening 5018. If the user has activated the first option, at 606, the fluid is directed to the front jet channel 5014 by the pump 5002 via the path 5032 including the first combination of fluid channels. Alternatively, if the user has activated the second option, at 608, fluid is directed by pump 5002 to front jet channel 5014 and side jet channel 5016 via path 5034 that includes a second combination of fluid channels.
