System and method for multiplexing tracking reference signal and synchronization signal blocks

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for multiplexing tracking reference signals and synchronization signal blocks. A base station is described, comprising: a transceiver configured to enable communication with a user equipment (UE) in a wireless network; and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the transceiver and configured to: receive an uplink (UL) transmission carrying a tracking reference signal (TRS) request from the UE to trigger a TRS transmission from the base station; and generate a downlink (DL) transmission based on the TRS request, wherein the DL transmission carries a TRS transmission and a synchronization signal (SS) block transmission within a time slot, wherein the TRS transmission is allocated to one or more subcarriers in a symbol within the time slot and is outside a resource block used for SS block transmission in the same symbol to which the TRS transmission is allocated, and wherein the one or more subcarriers used for the TRS transmission are adjacent to the one or more subcarriers used for the SS block transmission.
