[0030] Useful flavoring components can include raw materials of both natural and synthetic origin. They include single compounds and mixtures. Specific examples of such components can be found in current literature, such as Fenaroli's Handbook of Flavor Ingredients, 1975, CRC Press; edited by Van Nostrand, MB Jacobs' Synthetic Food Adjuncts, 1947; or S. Arctander's Perfume and Flavor Chemicals, 1969, Montclair, NJ (USA). These substances are well known to those skilled in the art of flavoring, flavoring, and / or aromatizing consumer products.
[0031] A variety of chemicals are known to be used for fragrance applications, including materials such as aldehydes, ketones, and esters. More commonly, naturally occurring plant and animal oils, as well as exudates, including complex mixtures of various chemical components, are known to be used as fragrances, and such materials may be used herein. Typical fragrances may include, for example, woody / earthy matrices containing exotic materials such as sandalwood oil, civet, and patchouli oil. Fragrances may also have a light floral scent, such as rose or violet extract. Furthermore, fragrances can be formulated to provide a desired fruity aroma, such as lime, lemon, or orange.
[0032] Particularly preferred fragrance components are blooming fragrance components and substantive fragrance components. Blooming fragrance components are defined by a boiling point below 250°C and a LogP greater than 2.5. [0034] The free fragrance of the present invention is preferably in emulsion form. The particle size of the emulsion can be in the range of about 1 nm to 30 micrometers, preferably about 100 nm to about 20 micrometers. The particle size is measured as the volume average diameter D[4,3], which can be measured using a Malvern Mastersizer 2000 from Malverninstruments.
[0035] Not wanting to be bound by theory, it is believed that free fragrances with this emulsion particle size can interact with silicone emulsions to provide improved fragrance lifespan for sprayed items.
[0036] The free oil fragrance forms an emulsion in the composition of the present invention. The emulsion may be formed outside the composition or in situ. When formed in situ, it is preferable to add at least one emulsifier together with the free oil fragrance to stabilize the emulsion. Preferably, the emulsifier is anionic or nonionic. Examples of suitable anionic emulsifiers for the free oil fragrance are alkyl aryl sulfonates (e.g., sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate), alkyl sulfates (e.g., sodium dodecyl sulfate), alkyl ether sulfates (e.g., sodium dodecyl ether sulfate nEO, where n is 1 to 20), alkylphenol ether sulfates (e.g., octylphenol ether sulfate nEO, where n is 1 to 20), and sulfosuccinates (e.g., sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate). Examples of suitable nonionic surfactants used as emulsifiers for free oil fragrances are alkylphenol ethoxylates (e.g., nonylphenol ethoxide nEO, where n is 1 to 50), alcohol ethoxylates (e.g., lauryl alcohol nEO, where n is 1 to 50), ester ethoxylates (e.g., polyoxyethylene monostearate, where the number of oxyethylene units is 1 to 30), and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil.
[0037] The compositions of the present invention may comprise one or more fragrance compositions. The fragrance composition may be in the form of a mixture of free fragrance compositions, or in the form of a mixture of encapsulated fragrance compositions and free oil fragrance compositions.

[0039] The fragrance components contained in the microcapsules may include fragrance materials and / or fragrance precursor materials.
[0040] The particularly preferred fragrance components contained in the microcapsules are aroma-releasing fragrance components and substantial fragrance components. The aroma-releasing fragrance components are defined by a boiling point below 250°C and a LogP greater than 2.5. The substantial fragrance components are defined by a boiling point above 250°C and a LogP greater than 2.5. Preferably, the fragrance composition may comprise a mixture of aroma-releasing fragrance components and substantial fragrance components. The fragrance composition may comprise other fragrance components.
[0041] It is common for microcapsules to contain multiple fragrance components. In the compositions used in this invention, it is envisioned that three or more, preferably four or more, more preferably five or more, and most preferably six or more different fragrance components are present in the microcapsules. The correct amount of nonionic surfactant is important, as it may be crucial for achieving the desired fragrance delivery. The spray may require sufficient surfactant to carry the surfactant, but excessive surface activity can interfere with the spray's action.
[0045] The nonionic surfactant preferably has an HLB value of 12 to 20, more preferably 14 to 18.
[0046] Examples of nonionic surfactant materials include: ethoxylated materials, polyols such as polyhydroxy alcohols and polyol esters (including glycerol esters), alkyl polyglucosides, and EO-PO block copolymers (poloxamers). [0057] Malodour ingredient
[0058] The compositions used in this invention preferably contain an odor-deterrent ingredient. In addition to conventional free fragrance ingredients, an odor-deterrent ingredient may also be present.
[0059] The deodorant may be present in amounts selected from the following: less than 20%, less than 10%, and less than 5% by weight of the spray composition. Suitable deodorants are present in the spray composition in amounts selected from about 0.01% to about 5%, preferably about 0.1% to about 3%, more preferably about 0.5% to about 2% by weight of the spray composition.
[0060] Any suitable deodorant can be used. In fact, any compound or product that effectively “captures,” “absorbs,” or “destroys” odor molecules to separate or remove odors from clothing, or acts as an “odor counteractor,” can achieve a deodorizing effect. Odor control agents can be selected from: uncomplexed cyclodextrins; odor blockers; reactive aldehydes; flavonoids; zeolites; activated charcoal; zinc ricinoleate or a solution thereof mixed with a substituted monocyclic organic compound; and mixtures thereof.
[0061] As mentioned above, a suitable deodorant is cyclodextrin, preferably a water-soluble, non-complexed cyclodextrin. Suitably, the cyclodextrin is present in an amount selected from 0.01% to 5%, 0.1% to 4%, and 0.5% to 2% by weight of the spray composition.
[0062] As used herein, the term "cyclodextrin" includes any known cyclodextrin, such as unsubstituted cyclodextrins containing six to twelve glucose units, especially α-cyclodextrin, β-cyclodextrin, γ-cyclodextrin and / or their derivatives and / or mixtures thereof. α-Cyclodextrin consists of six glucose units, β-cyclodextrin consists of seven glucose units, and γ-cyclodextrin consists of eight glucose units arranged in a donut-shaped ring.
[0063] Preferably, the cyclodextrin is highly water-soluble, such as α-cyclodextrin and / or its derivatives, γ-cyclodextrin and / or its derivatives, derivatized β-cyclodextrin, and / or mixtures thereof. The derivatives of cyclodextrin are primarily composed of molecules in which some of their OH groups have been converted to OR groups. Cyclodextrin derivatives include, for example, those having short-chain alkyl groups, such as methylated cyclodextrins and ethylated cyclodextrins, wherein R is methyl or ethyl; those having hydroxyalkyl substituent groups, such as hydroxypropyl cyclodextrins and / or hydroxyethyl cyclodextrins, wherein R is a -CH2-CH(OH)-CH3 or -CH2CH2-OH group; branched cyclodextrins, such as maltose-bonded cyclodextrins; cationic cyclodextrins, such as those containing 2-hydroxy-3-(dimethylamino)propyl ether, wherein R is CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-N(CH3)2, which is cationic at low pH; and quaternary ammonium groups, such as 2-hydroxy-3-(trimethylamino)propyl ether chloride groups, wherein R is CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-N + (CH3)3Cl - Anionic cyclodextrins, such as carboxymethyl cyclodextrin, cyclodextrin sulfate, and cyclodextrin succinate; amphoteric cyclodextrins, such as carboxymethyl / quaternary ammonium cyclodextrin; cyclodextrins in which at least one pyranose unit has a 3-6-dehydro-cyclomaltose structure, such as mono-3-6-dehydro-cyclodextrin.
[0064] Highly water-soluble cyclodextrins are those that have a water solubility of at least about 10 g in 100 ml of water at room temperature, preferably at least about 20 g in 100 ml of water, and more preferably at least about 25 g in 100 ml of water at room temperature. The availability of dissolved, non-complexed cyclodextrins is crucial for effective and efficient odor control performance. When deposited on surfaces, especially fabrics, dissolved water-soluble cyclodextrins can exhibit more effective odor control performance than insoluble cyclodextrins.
[0065] Examples of preferred water-soluble cyclodextrin derivatives suitable for this application are hydroxypropyl α-cyclodextrin, methylated α-cyclodextrin, methylated β-cyclodextrin, hydroxyethyl β-cyclodextrin, and hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin. Hydroxyalkyl cyclodextrin derivatives preferably have a degree of substitution of about 1 to about 14, more preferably about 1.5 to about 7, wherein the total number of OR groups per cyclodextrin is defined as the degree of substitution. Methylated cyclodextrin derivatives typically have a degree of substitution of about 1 to about 18, preferably about 3 to about 16. A known methylated β-cyclodextrin is heptyl-2,6-di-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin, commonly referred to as DIMEB, wherein each glucose unit has about 2 methyl groups and a degree of substitution of about 14. A preferred, more commercially available methylated β-cyclodextrin is atactic methylated β-cyclodextrin, commonly referred to as RAMEB, which has a different degree of substitution, typically about 12.6. RAMEB is preferred over DIMEB because DIMEB has a greater impact on the surface activity of the preferred surfactant. Preferred cyclodextrins can be obtained, for example, from Cerestar USA, Inc. and Wacker Chemicals (USA), Inc.
[0066] In several implementations, a mixture of cyclodextrins is used.
[0067] Odor blockers can be used as deodorants to mitigate the effects of foul odors. Non-limiting examples of odor blockers include 4-cyclohexyl-4-methyl-2-pentanone, 4-ethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 4-isopropylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, cyclohexylmethyl ketone, 3-methylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 4-tert-butylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 2-methyl-4-tert-butylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 2-methyl-5-isopropylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 4-methylcyclohexylisopropyl ketone, 4-methylcyclohexylsec-butyl ketone, 4- Methylcyclohexyl isobutyl ketone, 2,4-dimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 2,3-dimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 2,2-dimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 3,3-dimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 4,4-dimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 2,2,6-trimethylcyclohexylmethyl ketone, 1-cyclohexyl-1-ethylcarboxylate, 1-cyclohexyl-1-ethylacetate, 1-cyclohexyl... 1-Cyclohexyl-1-ethylpropionate, 1-cyclohexyl-1-ethyl isobutyrate, 1-cyclohexyl-1-ethyl n-butyrate, 1-cyclohexyl-1-propylacetate, 1-cyclohexyl-1-propyl n-butyrate, 1-cyclohexyl-2-methyl-1-propylacetate, 2-cyclohexyl-2-propylacetate, 2-cyclohexyl-2-propylpropionate, 2-cyclohexyl-2-propyl isobutyrate, 2-cyclohexyl-2-propyl n-butyrate Odor blockers are disclosed in more detail in US 4,009,253; US 4,187,251; US 4,719,105; US 5,441,727; and US 5,861,371, which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0068] Reactive aldehydes can be used as deodorants to mitigate the effects of malodors. Examples of suitable reactive aldehydes include Class I and Class II aldehydes. Examples of Class I aldehydes include anisaldehyde, o-allyl-vanillin, benzaldehyde, cuminaldehyde, ethyl anisaldehyde, ethyl-vanillin, piperaldehyde, tolualdehyde, and vanillin. Such combinations of at least two aldehydes are described in more detail in WO 00 / 49120. As used herein, the term “reactive aldehyde” further includes deodorizing materials as the product of (i) the reaction of an aldehyde with an alcohol, (ii) a ketone with an alcohol, or (iii) an aldehyde with the same or different aldehydes. Such deodorizing materials may be: (a) acetals or hemiacetals produced by the reaction of an aldehyde with methanol; (b) ketals or hemiacetals produced by the reaction of a ketone with methanol; (c) cyclic triacetals or mixtures of cyclic triacetals of at least two aldehydes, or any mixture of such acetals, hemiacetals, ketals, hemiacetals, or cyclic triacetals. These deodorizing fragrance materials are described in more detail in WO 01 / 07095, which is incorporated herein by reference.
[0069] Flavonoids can also be used as deodorants. Flavonoids are compounds based on the C6-C3-C6 flavane skeleton. Flavonoids can be found in typical essential oils. These oils include essential oils extracted by dry distillation from coniferous and herbaceous plants such as cedar, Japanese cypress, eucalyptus, Japanese red pine, dandelion, low-striped bamboo, and geranium, and may contain terpenoid materials such as α-pinene, β-pinene, myrcene, phencone, and camphene. Zinc salts are preferred metal salts. Zinc salts of ricinoleic acid are particularly preferred. A commercially available product is TEGO Sorb A30 from Evonik. More details on suitable metal salts are provided below.
[0071] Zeolites can be used as deodorants. A class of useful zeolites is characterized as "intermediate" silicate / aluminate zeolites. Intermediate zeolites are characterized by a SiO2 / AlO2 molar ratio of less than about 10. Preferably, the SiO2 / AlO2 molar ratio ranges from about 2 to about 10. Intermediate zeolites can have advantages over "high" zeolites. Intermediate zeolites have a higher affinity for amine odors, are more gravimetrically efficient at odor absorption due to their larger surface area, and are more moisture-resistant and retain more odor-absorbing capacity in water compared to high zeolites. Several intermediate zeolites suitable for this purpose can be... CP301-68 300-63 CP300-35 and The CP300-56 was purchased from PQ Corporation, and... The series of zeolites were obtained from Conteka. Suitably, the zeolite material has a particle size of less than about 10 micrometers and is present in the spray composition at a content of less than about 1% by weight of the spray composition.
[0072] Activated carbon is another suitable deodorizer. Suitable carbon materials are known absorbents for organic molecules and / or for air purification purposes. Typically, such carbon materials are referred to as "activated" carbon or "activated charcoal." Calgon-Type is an example. Type Type Type and Type This trade name refers to carbon obtained from commercial sources. The terms "end position" and "at the end of the silicone chain" are used to refer to the ends of the silicone chain.
[0137] When silicone is linear in nature, the silicone chain has two ends. In this case, anionic silicone preferably does not contain functional groups located at the ends of the silicone chain. When silicone is branched in nature, the ends are considered to be the two ends of the longest linear silicone chain. Preferably, no functional groups are located at the ends of the longest linear silicone chain.
[0138] Preferred functionalized silicones are those containing anionic groups at positions on the silicone chain. Preferably, the functional groups of the functionalized silicone are located at least five Si atoms from the end position of the silicone. [0142] The molecular weight of the silicone polymer is preferably from 1,000 to 500,000, more preferably from 2,000 to 250,000, and even more preferably from 5,000 to 200,000.
[0143] The silicone of the present invention is in emulsion form. The silicone is preferably emulsified prior to addition to the composition of the present invention. Silicone compositions are typically supplied by the manufacturer in emulsion form. The average particle size of the emulsion is in the range of about 1 nm to 150 nm, preferably 1 nm to 100 nm. This may be referred to as a microemulsion. Particle size is measured as the volume average diameter D [4,3], which can be measured using a Malvern Mastersizer 2000 from Malverninstruments.

[0157] spray bottle
[0158] The compositions used in this invention are fabric spray compositions. This means that the compositions are suitable for spraying onto fabrics. They can be sprayed using any suitable spraying device.
[0159] Preferably, a spraying device is a manually operable spraying device in the sense that the spraying mechanism can be manually operated to dispense a dose of the composition from a nozzle. The spraying mechanism can be operated by an actuator. The actuator can be a push actuator or a pull actuator. The actuator may include a trigger. The spraying mechanism may include a manually operable pump. Optionally, the pump is one of the following: a positive displacement pump; a self-priming pump; a reciprocating pump. Suitable spraying devices include trigger sprayers, continuous / semi-continuous sprayers, finger pump sprayers, and vibrating mesh output sprayers.
[0160] Preferably, the spraying device is operable without the use of propellant. In fact, propellant-free spraying devices are preferred. This allows the spray to maintain the integrity and purity of the product, free from propellant contamination, and is preferably environmentally friendly.
[0161] Preferably, the spraying device is pressurized. This can increase the spray duration and rate. Preferably, the spraying device is pressurized via a separate gas chamber from the reservoir containing the composition. The gas is preferably air or nitrogen. The spraying device may include an external container containing the composition and pressurizing agent, wherein the composition is isolated from the pressurizing agent by being sealed in a soft pouch (preferably airtight). This maintains complete formulation integrity so that only the pure (i.e., composition without pressurizing agent) composition is dispensed. A preferred system is the so-called "bag-in-can" (or BOV, bag-on-valve technology). Alternatively, the spraying device may include a piston barrier mechanism, such as Crown Holdings' EarthSafe.
[0162] Preferably, the spraying device comprises a biodegradable plastic material.
[0163] The spray apparatus may further include an atomizer configured to break down the liquid dose into droplets, thereby facilitating the generation of the fine aerosol in the form of a mist. Conveniently, the atomizer may include at least one of a vortex chamber and a lateral distribution chamber. Suitably, the atomizer is used to mix air with the aqueous fabric spray composition.
[0164] The particle size of the formulation during spraying is preferably no more than 300 μm, preferably no more than 250 μm, preferably no more than 150 μm, preferably no more than 125 μm, and preferably no more than 100 μm. The particle size of the formulation during spraying is preferably at least 5 μm, preferably at least 10 μm, preferably at least 15 μm, preferably at least 20 μm, preferably at least 30 μm, and preferably at least 40 μm. Suitably, the spray contains droplets with an average diameter preferably in the range of 5 to 300 μm, more preferably 10 to 250 μm, and most preferably 15 to 150 μm. This size allows for a balance between uniform distribution and sufficient wetting of the fabric without potential fabric damage due to excessive addition of certain components. The droplet size can be measured on a Malvern Spraytec instrument, with the peak value corresponding to the average droplet size. The parameter droplet size is the volume average diameter D [4,3].
[0165] Suitablely, the spray has a duration of at least 0.4 seconds after actuation. Preferably, the spray has a duration of at least 0.8 seconds. A longer duration minimizes workload by maximizing the coverage area of the spray device with each actuation. This is an important factor for products designed for use over the entire area of clothing.
[0166] Preferably, the spray duration is directly related to the actuation, such that the spray output is continuous as long as the actuator is activated (e.g., by pressing a button or trigger). The spray reservoir can be an unpressurized, manually or mechanically pre-pressurized device. This also refers to removable / refillable reservoirs.
[0167] According to another aspect of the invention, a replacement reservoir for a garment freshening product according to the above aspects is provided, the replacement reservoir being pre-filled with a certain volume of the spray composition to replenish the product. A suitable "refill kit" comprises one or more reservoirs. In the case of more than one reservoir, for example, two, three, four, five or more reservoirs, the contents (aqueous fabric spray composition) of each reservoir may be the same as or different from those in the other reservoirs.
[0168] In use
[0169] Conveniently, the spray composition is provided in liquid form, and the spray device is operable to dispense a dose of at least 0.1 ml, preferably at least 0.2 ml, more preferably at least 0.25 ml, more preferably at least 0.3 ml, more preferably at least 0.35 ml, more preferably at least 0.35 ml, more preferably at least 0.4 ml, more preferably at least 0.45 ml, and most preferably at least 0.5 ml.
[0170] Suitablely, the dose is no more than 2 ml, preferably no more than 1.8 ml, preferably no more than 1.6 ml, more preferably no more than 1.5 ml, more preferably no more than 1.4 ml, more preferably no more than 1.3 ml, and most preferably no more than 1.2 ml.
[0171] Suitablely, the liquid spray composition is prepared in a dose of 0.1 to 2 ml, preferably 0.2 to 1.8 ml, more preferably 0.25 to 1.6 ml, even more preferably 0.25 to 1.5 ml, and most preferably 0.25 to 1.2 ml.
[0172] These dosages have been found to be particularly effective in achieving the desired freshness in clothing without the formation of unsightly and wasteful large droplets.
[0173] The dose can alternatively be defined as per m 2 The amount of fabric in milliliters. Preferably, the spray composition of the present invention is used at a concentration of 0.1 to 20 ml / m³. 2 Administered at a dose preferred, 0.5 to 15 ml / m. 2 The optimal concentration is 1 to 10 ml / m 2 .
[0174] In one aspect of the invention, a method is provided for spraying the composition described herein onto a fabric. More specifically, a method for preventing fading within 10 washing cycles, preferably 5 washing cycles, wherein the fabric is sprayed with the composition described herein before washing. Preferably, the spray application is repeated before each wash. Preferably, the dosage is as described herein. A single washing cycle is defined as washing, rinsing, drying, and wearing / using the fabric such as sheets or towels. The composition described herein can be sprayed onto the fabric before or after wearing / using it.
[0175] In one aspect of the invention, the use of the compositions described herein for providing improved color care or color maintenance for fabrics is provided. In other words, when a fabric is sprayed with the compositions described herein prior to washing, the compositions reduce fading over multiple wash cycles. Preferably, this benefit is observable within 10 wash cycles, more preferably within 5 wash cycles.
[0176] The color benefits described herein can be observed on any fabric containing the dye. However, the color care benefits are particularly pronounced for black and green dyes, and in particular, the methods described herein are especially effective for reactive black dye 5. Fading can be measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (e.g., the Color i7 Benchtop spectrophotometer from X-rite) and reported using units ΔE. Detailed Implementation
