In use, positioning the plug into the combination slot formed in the alignment guide transforms the combination slot into a generally circular hole or opening having a predetermined trajectory that is aligned with one of the variable angle openings formed in the perimeter of the periprosthetic bone plate, thereby defining a trajectory from the alignment guide to the variable angle opening.
