Abstract
Description
Background Art
[0001] Electronic devices such as computers, networking devices, etc. may include a system motherboard (e.g., a motherboard) having hardware components such as a central processing unit, resistors, capacitors, etc., to provide some basic functions. In order to pursue higher performance and / or expand the functionality of the electronic device, additional hardware components such as expansion cards may be removably connected to the system motherboard. Expansion cards may have a variety of sizes and form factors, including, for example, full-height expansion cards and low-profile expansion cards.
[0002] In some electronic devices, the system motherboard may include electrical connectors that can directly receive expansion cards. However, in other electronic devices, the system motherboard may lack the appropriate number or type of electrical connectors required to receive the desired expansion cards, or the electrical connectors may be present but in an inconvenient location or orientation, so in such electronic devices, another card (or mezzanine card) carrying an electrical connector suitable for the expansion card may be removably coupled to the system motherboard to provide the required connection points for the expansion card. Such mezzanine cards are often referred to as riser cards.
[0003] Additionally, a riser card bracket bracket may be provided to support the riser card. The riser card bracket bracket may additionally secure and support the expansion card when the expansion card is disposed in the riser card bracket bracket and removably coupled to the riser card. There are a variety of different types of riser card bracket brackets, each having a different size to support expansion cards of various form factors, such as a full-height riser card bracket bracket for securing and supporting a full-height expansion card and a low-profile riser card bracket bracket for securing and supporting a low-profile expansion card. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0021] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. For the purpose of explanation, reference is made to Figures 1 to Fig.14 The components illustrated in the drawings describe certain examples. However, the functions of the illustrated components may overlap and may be present in a smaller or larger number of elements and components. In addition, the disclosed examples can be implemented in various environments and are not limited to the illustrated examples. Whenever possible, the same reference numerals are used in the drawings and the following description to refer to the same or similar components. However, it should be clearly understood that these drawings are for illustration and description purposes only. Although several examples are described in this document, modifications, adaptations and other implementations are possible. Therefore, the following detailed description does not limit the disclosed examples. On the contrary, the appropriate scope of the disclosed examples may be defined by the appended claims.
[0022] As used herein, "riser card" refers to an electronic card having a circuit board and a connector, the circuit board being configured to be connected to a system motherboard (e.g., a motherboard) of an electronic device, and the connector being configured to removably receive a corresponding connector of an expansion card, so that the expansion card is electrically connected to the system motherboard via the riser card. As used herein, "expansion card" refers to another electronic card having a circuit board and an electrical connector (e.g., an electrical plug or socket), which can be engaged with a connector (e.g., an electrical connector) of a riser card (e.g., inserted into a connector of a riser card), or with a connector (e.g., an expansion slot) on a system motherboard of an electronic device to add and / or expand the functionality of the electronic device. As used herein, "riser card bracket bracket" refers to a support element that can be configured to support a riser card and installed in an electronic device.
[0023] An adapter bracket assembly including an adapter bracket bracket and an adapter card can allow the inclusion of additional hardware components, such as an expansion card (e.g., a display card, a graphics processing unit (GPU), an accelerator module, a network interface module (NIC), etc.) in an electronic device to improve the performance of the electronic device or expand the functionality of the electronic device. For example, the adapter card is first connected to the adapter bracket bracket to form an adapter bracket assembly, and then such an adapter bracket assembly is installed in the electronic device (e.g., the adapter bracket bracket can be connected to the housing of the electronic device) so that the adapter card is detachably connected to the system motherboard of the electronic device. The expansion card is then installed in the adapter bracket bracket, which can further fix and support the expansion card. When the expansion card is installed in the adapter bracket bracket, the electrical connector of the expansion card is detachably connected to the connector (e.g., electrical connector) of the adapter card, and thus the expansion card is electrically connected to the system motherboard via the adapter card. Therefore, when the expansion card is detachably connected to the adapter card, the electrical signal from the expansion card can be transmitted to the system motherboard via the adapter card. This may allow for the addition of a connector of a type that the system motherboard lacks, or for the expansion of the number of such connectors, or for the relocation of such connectors to someplace more convenient.
[0024] Expansion cards generally have different form factors, for example, full-height full-length ("FHFL") or half-height full-length ("HHFL"). It should be noted that an expansion card having an "FHFL" form factor may be referred to as a full-height expansion card, and an expansion card having an "HHFL" form factor may be referred to as a low-profile expansion card. Therefore, a riser card bracket assembly provided for securing and supporting an expansion card may also need to have different configurations, for example, a full-height configuration associated with a full-height expansion card or a low-profile configuration associated with a low-profile expansion card, to properly secure and support expansion cards having corresponding form factors. In other words, a first riser card bracket assembly having a full-height configuration may be required to secure and support a full-height expansion card, and a second riser card bracket assembly having a low-profile configuration may be required to secure and support a low-profile expansion card. Therefore, when an electronic device including an expansion card having a first form factor needs to be switched to a new expansion card having a second form factor, the pre-installed riser bracket assembly configured to fix and support the expansion card having the first form factor must be replaced with a new riser bracket assembly for fixing and supporting the new expansion card having the second form factor. For example, if a pre-installed riser bracket assembly having a full-height configuration is installed in an electronic device to fix and support a full-height expansion card and the full-height expansion card subsequently needs to be replaced with a low-profile expansion card, the pre-installed riser bracket assembly may also have to be replaced with a new riser bracket assembly having a low-profile configuration to fix and support the low-profile expansion card. Therefore, replacing the expansion card with the new expansion card may be cumbersome, time-consuming, expensive and dependent on the inventory availability of such new compatible riser bracket brackets. In addition, it may be necessary to produce multiple different types of riser bracket brackets, and this may result in the need for additional SKUs and maintenance of different inventories, which in turn may increase costs.
[0025] Additionally, when removing a riser card bracket assembly (e.g., for replacement), it may be necessary to disconnect its riser card from the system motherboard, and similarly, when installing a new riser card bracket assembly, it may be necessary to connect its riser card to the system motherboard. However, each such action of disconnecting or connecting the riser card from the system motherboard has the potential to cause damage to the electrical connectors of the riser card or the system motherboard. Therefore, changing the riser card bracket assembly (e.g., to change the form factor of the expansion card) may present a risk of causing damage.
[0026] Furthermore, in some cases, replacing the riser card assembly with a new riser card assembly may include reusing the same riser card from the old riser card assembly in the new riser card assembly. In other words, in such examples, when removing the pre-installed riser card bracket assembly (e.g., to replace it with a new riser card bracket assembly), the riser card of the pre-installed riser card bracket bracket coupled to the pre-installed riser card bracket assembly may be detached from the pre-installed riser card bracket bracket (after the assembly has been removed from the system motherboard), and then the removed riser card may be attached to the new riser card bracket bracket to form a new riser card bracket assembly, which is then installed in the electronic device. Disassembling the riser card from the previous riser card bracket bracket and then attaching the riser card to the new riser card bracket bracket requires additional time and effort, and therefore, in these examples, the entire process of replacing the pre-installed riser card bracket assembly may be even more cumbersome and time-consuming. Additionally, removing and attaching the riser card from the riser-card bracket bracket may cause damage to the riser card (eg, the card may break due to over-torquing of the screws).
[0027] A technical solution to the aforementioned problem may include providing a riser card bracket assembly that is reconfigurable into a plurality of configurations that are compatible with a plurality of expansion cards of different form factors and that is additionally capable of remaining (at least partially) connected to a system mainboard when reconfigured. More specifically, the reconfigurable riser card bracket assembly includes a reconfigurable riser card bracket bracket having a riser card bracket body (to which the riser card is attached) and a riser card bracket window that is removably connected to the riser card bracket body, wherein the riser card bracket window is one of a set of a plurality of different windows that are interchangeably connected to the riser card bracket body. Thus, the riser card bracket bracket can be reconfigured to have a different size (e.g., to accommodate a different expansion card) by disconnecting a currently connected riser card bracket window from the riser card bracket body and then connecting another of the interchangeable riser card bracket windows to the riser card bracket body. Thus, reconfiguring the riser card bracket assembly does not require replacing the riser card bracket body (which is common to all configurations of the riser card bracket assembly), and thus, during the process of reconfiguring the riser card bracket assembly, the riser card bracket body can remain connected to the system mainboard, and thus, the riser card attached to the riser card bracket body can also remain connected to the system mainboard. As a result, expansion cards can be more easily replaced in a system utilizing the example riser card bracket assembly disclosed herein and with less risk of damage from such replacement than in other approaches described above utilizing an integral riser card bracket bracket, at least because in the examples disclosed herein, there is no need to disconnect and reconnect the riser card from the system mainboard, or to remove and reattach the riser card to a different riser card bracket bracket.
[0028] In the examples disclosed herein, a given configuration of a riser bracket bracket compatible with an expansion card of a given form factor can be formed by the following operations: i) selecting a riser bracket window corresponding to (e.g., having a size commensurate with) an expansion card of the given form factor from a plurality of interchangeable riser bracket windows, and ii) assembling the riser bracket window so selected to a common riser bracket body. In addition, the riser bracket assembly can be changed to accommodate expansion cards of different form factors by changing which riser bracket window is used without replacing the entire pre-installed riser bracket bracket. For example, a first riser bracket window with full height can be selected for a full-height expansion card, and it can be detachably connected to the riser bracket body to form a first riser bracket bracket with a full-height configuration to support and fix the full-height expansion card. Similarly, a second riser bracket window with half height can be selected for a low-profile expansion card, and it can be detachably connected to the riser bracket body to form a second riser bracket bracket with a low-profile configuration to support and fix the low-profile expansion card. In particular, the riser bracket body can be retained as is, and the first riser bracket window and the second riser bracket window can be interchangeably selected and removably connected to the riser bracket body to form a first riser bracket bracket or a second riser bracket bracket according to compatibility with the expansion card. Since the riser bracket body is retained and only the riser bracket window is interchanged to assemble a new riser bracket bracket compatible with the expansion card, this new riser bracket bracket provides flexibility, upgradeability, maintainability and benefits from the supply chain in terms of reducing the number of ready-made riser bracket brackets required for inventory. In addition, since the riser card and the riser bracket body are retained when assembling the new riser bracket bracket from the selected riser bracket window, the need to remove and reinstall the riser card as in the pre-installed riser bracket bracket to form a new riser bracket bracket can be avoided. Therefore, the cumbersome and time-consuming process associated with removing and reinstalling the riser card is overcome, and damage or breakage caused to the riser card during such removal and reinstallation process is also prevented.
[0029] In some examples, when the first riser card bracket window is connected to the riser card bracket body, the length dimension of the first riser card bracket window and the length dimension of the riser card bracket body extend perpendicular to each other, thereby forming a generally L-shaped structure that defines a space in which the first expansion card can be accommodated. Similarly, when the second riser card bracket window is connected to the riser card bracket body, the length dimension of the second riser card bracket window and the length dimension of the riser card bracket body extend perpendicular to each other, thereby also forming a generally L-shaped structure that defines a space in which the second expansion card can be accommodated. In some examples, the riser card bracket body may include a coupling portion that can be engaged with one or more fasteners to interchangeably connect with the first riser card bracket window and the second riser card bracket window. In addition, each of the first riser card bracket window and the second riser card bracket window can have a different length along its corresponding length (longitudinal) dimension.
[0030] In some examples, a system (or kit) for assembling a riser bracket bracket is disclosed. In such an example, the system includes a riser bracket body, a first riser bracket window, and a second riser bracket window. The first riser bracket window and the second riser bracket window are configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser bracket body to assemble the riser bracket bracket. For example, the first riser bracket window is configured to define a first space between the riser bracket body and the first riser bracket window when connected to the riser bracket body to receive a full-height expansion card that is detachably connected to the riser bracket bracket. Similarly, the second riser bracket window is configured to define a second space between the riser bracket body and the second riser bracket window when connected to the riser bracket body to receive a low-profile expansion card that is detachably connected to the riser bracket bracket. In such an example, each of the first space and the second space has a size defined by the riser bracket body and the corresponding riser bracket window in the first riser bracket window and the second riser bracket window. Specifically, the corresponding length dimensions of the first space and the second space can be defined by the length of the riser bracket body, the corresponding width dimensions of the first space and the second space can be defined by the width of the riser bracket body and / or the width of the first riser bracket window and the second riser bracket window, and the corresponding height dimensions of the first space and the second space can define the corresponding lengths of the first riser bracket window and the second riser bracket window. Therefore, the first space and the second space can have equal lengths, equal widths, and different heights.
[0031] In some examples, the riser card is coupled to the riser card bracket body. The riser card is further detachably coupled to the electronic device and interchangeably detachably coupled to the full-height expansion card and the low-profile expansion card. In particular, the riser card includes a first electrical connector that is interchangeably detachably coupled to the full-height expansion card and the low-profile expansion card. The riser card further includes a second electrical connector that is detachably coupled to the system motherboard of the electronic device to establish an electrical connection between the system motherboard and the full-height expansion card or the low-profile expansion card through the riser card. In some examples, the riser card is a peripheral component interconnect high-speed (PCI-e) card. Similarly, each of the full-height expansion card and the low-profile expansion card is a PCI-e expansion card.
[0032] Since a new riser bracket bracket can be easily assembled by interchangeably and removably connecting one of multiple types of riser bracket windows to a common riser bracket body to form a new riser bracket bracket compatible with a specific type of expansion card, the new riser bracket bracket provides flexibility, maintainability, and benefits from the supply chain in terms of reducing the number of off-the-shelf riser bracket brackets required for inventory. In addition, the assembly, maintenance, and replacement of the new riser bracket bracket are inexpensive because the riser bracket body and riser card board of the pre-installed riser bracket bracket are retained, and only the riser bracket window that is not compatible with the expansion card is replaced with the riser bracket window that is compatible with the expansion card to assemble the new riser bracket bracket.
[0033] With reference to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1A A block diagram of a system 100 for assembling a riser card bracket bracket 150 and / or a riser card bracket assembly 2000 including the riser card bracket bracket 150 is depicted. Figure 1B and Figure 1C Two exemplary riser bracket assemblies 2000 including two exemplary riser bracket brackets 150 assembled by the system 100 are shown. It should be understood that Figures 1A to 1C The specific shapes, sizes, or other structural details are not intended to be accurately or to scale, and embodiments of the system 100, riser bracket bracket 150, and riser bracket assembly 2000 may have different numbers and arrangements of the illustrated components, and may also include other parts not illustrated. The system 100 may serve as a stock of parts that may be needed to assemble the riser bracket bracket 150.
[0034] In some examples, the system 100 includes components such as a riser card holder body 102 and a set of mutually distinct riser card holder windows 103 that are interchangeably and removably connected to the riser card holder body 102. The set of riser card holder windows 103 can include at least a first riser card holder window 104 and a second riser card holder window 106. The riser card holder body 102 can be removably coupled to one of the riser card holder windows 103 to form a riser card holder bracket 150, wherein the riser card holder bracket 150 can adopt a variety of different configurations depending on which of the riser card holder windows 103 is coupled to the riser card holder body 102. For example, Figure 1B and Figure 1C Two exemplary configurations of the riser card bracket bracket 150 are shown, namely, a first configuration in the form of a first riser card bracket bracket 150-1, the first riser card bracket bracket including a first riser card bracket window 104 removably coupled to the riser card bracket body 102; and a second configuration in the form of a second riser card bracket bracket 150-2, the second riser card bracket bracket including a second riser card bracket window 106 removably coupled to the riser card bracket body 102. The riser card bracket bracket 150 is also capable of being reconfigured between these different configurations. For example, the riser card bracket 150 can be reconfigured from the configuration of the first riser card bracket bracket 150-1 to the configuration of the second riser card bracket bracket 150-2 by removing the first riser card bracket window 104 and replacing it with the second riser card bracket window 106. In the following, the description will focus on the first riser bracket 150-1 and the second riser bracket 150-2 as two illustrative examples, but it should be understood that the riser bracket 150 may be capable of having additional configurations, such as those formed by using other riser bracket windows 103. Additional details of these components are described in more detail below.
[0035] Additionally, in some examples, the system 100 includes a riser card 108 that can be coupled to a riser card bracket bracket 150 (specifically, coupled to a riser card bracket body 102). When assembled together, the combination of the riser card bracket bracket 150 and the riser card 108 forms a riser card bracket assembly 2000. For example, Figure 1B and Figure 1CTwo exemplary configurations of riser card bracket assembly 2000 are shown, namely, a first configuration in the form of first riser card bracket assembly 1500, the first riser card bracket assembly including first riser card bracket bracket 150-1 coupled to riser card 108; and a second configuration in the form of second riser card bracket assembly 1900, the second riser card bracket assembly including second riser card bracket bracket 150-2 coupled to riser card 108. Riser card bracket assembly 2000 is also capable of being reconfigured between these different configurations. For example, riser card bracket assembly 2000 can be reconfigured from the configuration of first riser card bracket assembly 1500 to the configuration of second riser card bracket assembly 1900 by removing first riser card bracket window 104 and replacing it with second riser card bracket window 106. Additional details of these components are described in more detail below.
[0036] In some examples, the system also includes an expansion card 175 that can be removably mounted in the riser card bracket assembly 2000 via removable coupling to the riser card 108 .
[0037] The riser bracket body 102 is the main structural support component of the riser bracket bracket 150. The riser bracket body 102 has a length dimension “L” extending along the first direction 10. B The length dimension “L” of the riser card bracket body 102 is B ” can be associated with a full-length configuration or full-length of an expansion card 175, such as a first expansion card 175-1 or a second expansion card 175-2. The riser card bracket body 102 includes a coupling portion (e.g., a first coupling portion 110) to enable the riser card bracket body 102 to be interchangeably connected with the first riser card bracket window 104 and the second riser card bracket window 106. In some examples, the riser card bracket body 102 is configured to provide support to the riser card 108. For example, the riser card bracket body 102 includes a second coupling portion 112 to enable the riser card bracket body 102 to be connected to the riser card 108.
[0038] As described above, the system includes a set of multiple riser card bracket windows 103. Each of the riser card bracket windows 103 is an auxiliary structural support component of the riser card bracket bracket 150. For ease of description, two exemplary riser card bracket windows are described below, namely, a first riser card bracket window 104 and a second riser card bracket window 106, but in examples, additional riser card bracket windows 103 may be included in the set of riser card bracket windows 103. In some examples, each riser card bracket window in the set of riser card bracket windows 103 has a different length along at least one dimension thereof (e.g., its length or longitudinal dimension), and may correspond to expansion cards 175 of different form factors.
[0039] For example, the first riser bracket window 104 has a length dimension “L” extending along the second direction 20. W1 The length dimension “L” of the first riser card bracket window 104 is W1 ” can be associated with a full-height configuration or full-height of an expansion card 175, such as the first expansion card 175-1. The first riser card bracket window 104 is configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser card bracket body 102 to assemble a riser card bracket bracket 150, such as the first riser card bracket bracket 150-1. For example, the first riser card bracket window 104 includes a third connecting portion 114 to enable the first riser card bracket window 104 to be removably connected to the riser card bracket body 102. In some examples, the length dimension “L” of the first riser card bracket window 104 W1 ” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 102 “L B ” is arranged so that the third coupling portion 114 of the first riser bracket window 104 is aligned with the first coupling portion 110 of the riser bracket body 102. In such an example, the system 100 includes one or more fasteners (e.g., a first fastener 116 that can interchangeably extend through the first coupling portion 110 of the riser bracket body 102 and the third coupling portion 114 in the first riser bracket window 104 to removably connect the first riser bracket window 104 to the riser bracket body 102 and assemble the first Riser bracket bracket 150-1. In some examples, first riser bracket bracket 150-1 is configured to support an expansion card 175 having a full-height form factor, such as first expansion card 175-1. It should be noted herein that "first expansion card" may also be referred to as a "full-height expansion card". In such an example, first riser bracket window 104 further includes a fourth coupling portion 118 to enable first riser bracket window 104 to couple to first expansion card 175-1, and thereby secure and support first expansion card 175-1.
[0040] The second riser bracket window 106 is another auxiliary structural support component of the riser bracket bracket 150. The second riser bracket window 106 has a length dimension “L” extending along the second direction 20. W2 The length dimension “L” of the second riser card bracket window 106 is W2 ” can be associated with a low-profile configuration or low-profile of an expansion card 175, such as a second expansion card 175-2. The second riser card bracket window 106 is configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser card bracket body 102 to assemble a riser card bracket 150, such as a second riser card bracket bracket 150-2. For example, the second riser card bracket window 106 includes a fifth connecting portion 120 to enable the second riser card bracket window 106 to be removably connected to the riser card bracket body 102. In some examples, the length dimension “L” of the second riser card bracket window 106 isW2 ” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 102 “L B ” is arranged so that the fifth coupling portion 120 of the second riser card bracket window 106 is aligned with the first coupling portion 110 of the riser card bracket body 102. In such an example, the first fastener 116 can interchangeably extend through the first coupling portion 110 of the riser card bracket body 102 and the fifth coupling portion 120 of the second riser card bracket window 106 to removably connect the second riser card bracket window 106 to the riser card bracket body 102 and assemble the second riser card bracket bracket 150-2. In some examples, the second riser card bracket window 106 is configured to support an expansion card with a low-profile form factor, such as the second expansion card 175-2. It should be noted herein that the “second expansion card” may also be referred to as a “low-profile expansion card”. In some examples, the second riser card bracket window 106 further includes a sixth coupling portion 122 to enable the second riser card bracket window 106 to be coupled to the second expansion card 175-2, and thereby fix and support the second expansion card 175-2.
[0041] The adapter card 108 may be an electronic card of an electronic device ( Figures 1A to 1C 102). The riser card 108 may be first coupled to the riser card bracket body 102 to obtain support from the riser card bracket body 102, and then detachably coupled to the electronic device to provide for adding one or more additional hardware components such as the expansion card 175 to the electronic device so as to meet / expand further requirements or functions of the electronic device. The riser card 108 includes a seventh coupling portion 124 to enable the riser card 108 to be coupled to the riser card bracket body 102. In some examples, the length dimension (not labeled) of the riser card 108 is parallel to the length dimension “L” of the riser card bracket body 102. B” is arranged so that the seventh coupling portion 124 of the riser card 108 is aligned with the second coupling portion 112 of the riser card bracket body 102. In such an example, the system 100 includes a second fastener 126 that extends through the seventh coupling portion 124 in the riser card 108 and the second coupling portion 112 in the riser card bracket body 102 to couple the riser card 108 to the riser card bracket body 102. In some examples, the riser card 108 includes a circuit board 128, a first electrical connector 130, and a second electrical connector 174. The circuit board 128 is configured to be coupled to a system main board (e.g., a motherboard, not shown) of the electronic device via a second electrical connector 174, which can be removably coupled to the system main board or a main connector of a communication cable that is in turn coupled to the system main board. The first electrical connector 130 is configured to be removably coupled to a corresponding electrical connector 132 of an expansion card 175, such that the expansion card 175 is electrically connected to the system main board via the riser card 108. In some examples, the riser card 108 is a peripheral component interconnect express (PCI-e) card.
[0042] The expansion card 175 may be another electronic card (e.g., a display card, a graphics processing unit (GPU), an accelerator module, a network interface module (NIC), etc.) that may be removably coupled to the electronic device. The expansion card 175 includes another circuit board 134 and an electrical connector 132 (e.g., an electrical plug or socket) that may be engaged with (e.g., inserted into) the first electrical connector 130 of the riser card 108 to add and / or expand the functionality of the electronic device. The expansion card 175 may be coupled to and supported by one of the riser card bracket windows 103. In some examples, the expansion card 175 may include a first expansion card 175-1 having a full-height form factor and a second expansion card 175-2 having a low-profile form factor. In some examples, the first expansion card 175-1 includes an eighth coupling portion 136 to enable the first expansion card 175-1 to be coupled to the first riser card bracket bracket 150-1. Similarly, the second expansion card 175-2 includes a ninth coupling portion 138 to enable the second expansion card 175-2 to be coupled to the second riser bracket bracket 150-2. In some examples, each of the full-height expansion card and the low-profile expansion card is a PCI-e expansion card.
[0043] As discussed herein, in some examples, the first riser bracket window 104 and the second riser bracket window 106 are configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser bracket body 102 to assemble the riser bracket bracket 150. In some examples, the first riser bracket window 104 is selected from the system 100 to secure and provide support for the full-height expansion card 175-1. In such an example, the length dimension "L" of the first riser bracket window 104 is W1” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 102 “L B ” is arranged so that the third coupling portion 114 of the first riser card holder window 104 is aligned with the first coupling portion 110 of the riser card holder body 102. In addition, the first fastener 116 can be interchangeably extended through the first coupling portion 110 and the third coupling portion 114 to removably connect the first riser card holder window 104 to the riser card holder body 102 and assemble the first riser card holder bracket 150-1. As discussed herein, the riser card 108 is arranged in the riser card holder body 102 of the first riser card holder bracket 150-1 so that the seventh coupling portion 124 of the riser card 108 is aligned with the second coupling portion 112 of the riser card holder body 102. In addition, the second fastener 126 extends through the seventh coupling portion 124 and the second coupling portion 112 to The riser card 108 is coupled to the riser card holder body 102 and forms a riser card holder assembly 2000, such as the first riser card holder assembly 1500. In other words, the first riser card holder bracket 150-1 and the riser card 108 together define the first riser card holder assembly 1500. In one or more examples, when the first riser card holder window 104 is removably connected to the riser card holder body 102, a first space 2140 is defined between the riser card holder body 102 and the first riser card holder window 104. In some examples, the first space 2140 has dimensions defined by the riser card holder body 102 and the first riser card holder window 104. These dimensions include a length or longitudinal dimension extending along the first direction 10 (also referred to herein as a first length "L1"), Figure 1B, a height or lateral dimension (also referred to herein as a first height “H1”) extending in the first direction 20 and along the second direction 20, and a first width or radial dimension (not shown) extending along the third direction 30. These dimensions may be collectively referred to herein as the first dimension. In addition, the first dimension of the first space 2140 may be compatible with the form factor (e.g., a full-height form factor) of the first expansion card 175-1 to allow the first expansion card 175-1 to be received in the first space 2140 by the first riser card bracket assembly 1500. In other words, the first expansion card 175-1 having the full-height form factor may have a dimension that is similar to (i.e., equal to or slightly smaller than) the corresponding first dimension of the first space 2140, thereby allowing the first riser card bracket bracket 150-1 of the first riser card bracket assembly 1500 to receive the first expansion card 175-1 in the first space 2140 (e.g., the length of the first expansion card 175-1 is equal to or less than “L1”, the width of the first expansion card 175-1 is equal to or less than “H1”, and so on). In some examples, when the first expansion card 175-1 is disposed in the first space 2140, the eighth coupling portion 136 in the first expansion card 175-1 is aligned with the fourth coupling portion 118 in the first riser-card holder window 104. In such examples, the system 100 further includes a third fastener 142 that engages with the fourth coupling portion 118 of the first riser-card holder window 104 and the eighth coupling portion 136 of the first expansion card 175-1 to couple the first expansion card 175-1 to the first riser-card holder assembly 1500. In some examples, when the first expansion card 175-1 is disposed in the first space 2140 and coupled to the first riser-card holder bracket 150-1, the first electrical connector 130 of the riser card 108 is interchangeably and detachably coupled to the electrical connector 132-1 of the first expansion card 175-1, thereby establishing an electrical connection between the system motherboard of the electronic device and the first expansion card 175-1 through the riser card 108. In addition, the system 100 may include a first fixing device 144 and one or more second fixing devices 146 to enable the first riser card bracket assembly 1500 to be mounted to a housing (not shown) of an electronic device. In particular, the first fixing device 144 is disposed in the riser card bracket body 102 and the one or more second fixing devices 146 are disposed in the first riser card bracket window 104, which extend into the housing of the electronic device to mount the first riser card bracket bracket 150-1 of the first riser card bracket assembly 1500 to the electronic device.
[0044] In some other examples, the second riser bracket window 106 is selected from the system 100 to secure and provide support for the low-profile expansion card 175-2. In such an example, the length dimension "L" of the second riser bracket window 106 is W2 ” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 102 “L B” is arranged so that the fifth coupling portion 120 of the second riser card holder window 106 is aligned with the first coupling portion 110 of the riser card holder body 102. In addition, the first fastener 116 can interchangeably extend through the first coupling portion 110 and the fifth coupling portion 120 to removably connect the second riser card holder window 106 to the riser card holder body 102 and assemble the second riser card holder bracket 150-2. As discussed herein, the riser card 108 is arranged in the riser card holder body 102 of the second riser card holder bracket 150-2 so that the seventh coupling portion 124 of the riser card 108 is aligned with the second coupling portion 112 of the riser card holder body 102. In addition, the second fastener The second riser card holder window 106 is provided between the riser card holder body 102 and the second riser card holder window 106. The second riser card holder window 106 is provided between the riser card holder body 102 and the second riser card holder window 106. The second riser card holder window 106 is provided between the riser card holder body 102 and the second riser card holder window 106. The second riser card holder window 106 is provided between the riser card holder body 102 and the second riser card holder window 106. The second riser card holder window 106 is provided between the riser card holder body 102 and the second riser card holder window 106. These dimensions include a length or longitudinal dimension extending along the first direction 10 (also referred to herein as a second length "L2"), a height or lateral dimension extending along the second direction 20 (also referred to herein as a second height "H2"), and a second width or radial dimension extending along the third direction 30 (not shown). These dimensions may be collectively referred to herein as second dimensions. In addition, the second dimensions of the second space 3140 may be compatible with the form factor (e.g., a low-profile form factor) of the second expansion card 175-2 to allow the second expansion card 175-2 to be received in the second space 3140 by the second riser bracket assembly 1900. In other words, the second expansion card 175-2 having a full-height form factor may be compatible with the second expansion card 175-2. 75-2 can have a size similar to (i.e., equal to, slightly smaller than) the corresponding second size of the second space 3140, thereby allowing the second riser card holder bracket 150-2 of the second riser card holder assembly 1900 to receive the second expansion card 175-2 in the second space 3140 (e.g., the length of the first expansion card 175-2 is equal to or less than "L2", the width of the first expansion card 175-2 is equal to or less than "H2", and so on). In some examples, when the second expansion card 175-2 is disposed in the second space 3140, the ninth connecting portion 138 in the second expansion card 175-2 is aligned with the sixth connecting portion 122 in the second riser card holder window 106.In such an example, the system 100 further includes a fourth fastener 152 that engages with the sixth coupling portion 122 of the second riser card holder window 106 and the ninth coupling portion 138 of the second expansion card 175-2 to couple the second expansion card 175-2 to the second riser card holder assembly 1900. In some examples, when the second expansion card 175-2 is disposed in the second space 3140 and coupled to the second riser card holder bracket 150-2, the first electrical connector 130 of the riser card 108 is interchangeably and detachably coupled to the electrical connector 132-2 of the second expansion card 175-2, thereby establishing an electrical connection between the system motherboard of the electronic device and the second expansion card 175-2 through the riser card 108. In addition, the system 100 includes a first fixing device 144 and one or more third fixing devices 154 to enable the second riser card holder bracket 150-2 to be mounted to the chassis of the electronic device. In particular, a first fixing device 144 is disposed in the riser bracket body 102 and one or more third fixing devices 154 are disposed in the second riser bracket window 106, which extend into the chassis of the electronic device to mount the second riser bracket assembly 1900 to the electronic device.
[0045] In some examples, each of the first riser card bracket window 104 and the second riser card bracket window 106 has a different length along its respective longitudinal dimension (eg, the length dimension “L” of the first riser card bracket window 104 is different from the length dimension “L” of the second riser card bracket window 106). W1 ” and the length dimension “L” of the second riser card bracket window 106 W2 ”). For example, in Figures 1A to 1C , the longitudinal dimension of each of the first riser card holder window 104 and the second riser card holder window 106 extends along the second direction 20, respectively. Specifically, the corresponding length dimension of the first space 2140 and the second space 3140 can be defined by the length of the riser card holder body 102, the corresponding width dimension of the first space 2140 and the second space 3140 can be defined by the width of the riser card holder body 102 and / or the width of the first riser card holder window 104 and the second riser card holder window 106, and the corresponding height dimension of the first space 2104 and the second space 3140 can define the corresponding length of the first riser card holder window 104 and the second riser card holder window 106. Therefore, each of the first space 2140 and the second space 3140 has equal length, equal width and different height. For example, the first length "L1" and the second length "L2" are equal, the first width and the second width can be equal, and the first height "H1" and the second height "H2" are different. In particular, the first height “ H1 ” is greater than the second height “ H2 ”.
[0046] Figure 2A perspective view of the riser bracket body 202 is depicted. In some examples, the riser bracket body 202 is a riser bracket bracket 450 (see Figure 4 ). The riser bracket body 202 includes a first arm 256 and a second arm 258, the second arm being disposed perpendicular to the first arm 256 and coupled to the first arm 256 to define an "L" shaped structure. In some examples, the riser bracket body 202 includes a length dimension "L" extending along the first direction 10. B ”, a height dimension “H” extending along the second direction 20 B ” and a width dimension “W” extending along the third direction 30 B One end (not labeled) of the first arm 256 includes a first fixing device 244, which can enable the riser bracket body 202 to be mounted on the electronic device 1100 (see Fig.11 ) of the housing 1102 (see Fig.11 ) or installed in the electronic device 1200 (see Fig.12 ) of the housing 1202 (see Fig.12 ). In addition, the other end of the first arm 256 includes a first coupling portion 210, such as an aperture. Similarly, the corresponding other end of the second arm 258 also includes a first coupling portion 210, such as an aperture. In one or more examples, the first coupling portion 210 can enable the riser bracket body 202 to be interchangeably and removably connected to the first riser bracket window 304 (see Figure 3 ) or the second riser card bracket window 804 (see Figure 8 ). In addition, the end portion of the second arm 258 further includes a second coupling portion 212, such as an aperture. In one or more examples, the second coupling portion 212 can enable the riser bracket body 102 to be coupled to the riser card 508 (see Figure 5 ).
[0047] Figure 3 A perspective view of the first riser bracket window 304 is depicted. In some examples, the first riser bracket window 304 is a riser bracket bracket 450 (see Figure 4 ). The first riser bracket window 304 includes a first attachment component 360 and a second attachment component 362. The second attachment component 362 is arranged parallel to the first attachment component 360 and is connected to one end of the first attachment component 360.
[0048] In some examples, the first attachment member 360 has a first support wall 364, a second support wall 366, a third support wall 368, and a fourth support wall 370. The first support wall 364 and the second support wall 366 are arranged parallel to each other, and the third support wall 368 and the fourth support wall 370 are arranged perpendicular to each other, and the lateral sides of the third side wall 367 and the fourth support wall 370 are coupled to each other. In addition, one longitudinal side and one radial side of the first support wall 364 are respectively coupled to the corresponding longitudinal side of the third support wall 365 and the corresponding radial side of the fourth support wall 370. Similarly, one longitudinal side and one radial side of the second support wall 366 are respectively coupled to the other corresponding longitudinal side of the third support wall 368 and the other corresponding radial side of the fourth support wall 370. Therefore, the first support wall 364, the second support wall 366, the third support wall 368, and the fourth support wall 370 are coupled so that the first attachment member 360 defines a hollow section therebetween. The second attachment member 362 includes a first wall 374 and a second wall 376, the second wall being disposed perpendicular to the first wall 374 and coupled to the first wall 374 to define an "L" shaped structure. In some examples, the first wall 374 is further coupled to an end portion of another longitudinal side of the first support wall 364. Similarly, the second wall 376 is further coupled to another lateral side of the fourth support wall 370. In one or more examples, the first attachment member 360 can be configured to receive the first expansion card 575-1 (see Figure 5 ), and the second attachment member 362 can be configured to be mounted within a portion of the riser-card bracket body 202 having the first coupling portion 210. In such an example, the third support wall 368 includes a first opening 372-1 that allows the portion of the first expansion card 575-1 to extend beyond the first attachment member 360. Similarly, the fourth support wall 370 includes a second opening 372-2 that allows another portion of the first expansion card 575-1 to extend beyond the first attachment member 360. The second attachment member 362 can be mounted within a portion of the riser-card bracket body 202 having the first coupling portion 210 to enable the first riser-card bracket window 304 to be coupled to the riser-card bracket body 202. For example, the first wall 374 and the second wall 376 of the second attachment member 362 include a third coupling portion 314 (e.g., an aperture) to enable the first riser-card bracket window 304 to be removably connected to the riser-card bracket body 202. It should be noted that the longitudinal sides may extend along a first direction 10 , the lateral sides may extend along a second direction 20 , and the radial sides may extend along a third direction 30 .
[0049] In some examples, a free end of the third support wall 368 of the first attachment member 360 includes one of the second fixing devices 346, and the fourth support wall 368 includes the other of the second fixing devices 346. The third support wall 368 further includes a fourth coupling portion 318 (e.g., an orifice) to enable the first riser card bracket window 304 to be coupled to the first expansion card 575-1, and thereby to fix and support the first expansion card 575-1. In one or more examples, the second fixing device 346 can enable the first riser card bracket window 304 to be mounted to the chassis 1102. In one or more examples, the first riser card bracket window 304 has a length dimension “L” extending along the first direction 10 W1 In particular, the length dimension "L W1 ” may be defined by the first attachment member 360. The first riser card bracket window 304 further has a height dimension “H” extending along the second direction 20 W1 In particular, the height dimension "H W1 ” may be defined by each of the first attachment member 360 and the second attachment member 362. In addition, the first riser bracket window 304 has a width dimension “W” extending along the third direction 30. W1 In particular, the width dimension "W W1 ” can be defined by the first attachment member 360 and the second attachment member 362. In some examples, the length dimension “L W1 ” may be associated with a full-height configuration or full-height of the first expansion card 575 - 1 .
[0050] Figure 4 A perspective view of a riser card bracket bracket 450, such as a first riser card bracket bracket 450-1, is depicted. In one or more examples, the first riser card bracket bracket 450-1 includes a riser card bracket body 202 and a first riser card bracket window 304. The first riser card bracket window 304 is configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser card bracket body 202 to assemble the riser card bracket bracket 450-1. In some examples, the length dimension “L” of the first riser card bracket window 304 is W1 ” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 202 “L B” is arranged so that the third coupling portion 314 of the first riser card holder window 304 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202. In particular, the third coupling portion 314 in the first wall 374 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 in the first arm 256. Similarly, the third coupling portion 314 in the second wall 376 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 in the second arm 258. In such an example, each of the one or more first fasteners 416 can interchangeably extend through the corresponding first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202 and the corresponding third coupling portion 314 in the first riser card holder window 304 to removably connect the first riser card holder window 304 to the riser card holder body 202 and assemble the first riser card holder bracket 450-1.
[0051] In one or more examples, when the first riser card holder window 304 is removably connected to the riser card holder body 202, a first space 440 is defined between the riser card holder body 202 and the first riser card holder window 304. In some examples, the first space 440 has dimensions defined by the riser card holder body 202 and the first riser card holder window 304. These dimensions include a length or longitudinal dimension extending along the first direction 10 (also referred to herein as a first length "L1"), a height or lateral dimension extending along the second direction 20 (also referred to herein as a first height "H1"), and a width or radial dimension extending along the third direction 30 (also referred to herein as a first width "W1"). These dimensions may be collectively referred to herein as first dimensions. In addition, the first dimensions of the first space 440 may be compatible with the form factor (e.g., a full-height form factor) of the first expansion card 575-1 to allow the first expansion card 575-1 to be received by the first riser card holder assembly 500 (see Figures 5 and 6 ) is received in the first space 440. In other words, the first expansion card 575-1 having a full-height form factor can have a size similar to (i.e., equal to or slightly smaller than) the corresponding first size of the first space 440, thereby allowing the first riser-card holder bracket 450-1 of the first riser-card holder assembly 500 to receive the first expansion card 575-1 in the first space 440 (e.g., the length of the first expansion card 575-1 is equal to or less than "L1", the width of the first expansion card 575-1 is equal to or less than "H1", and so on).
[0052] Figure 5 An exploded perspective view of a first riser-card bracket assembly 500 is depicted having a riser-card bracket bracket 450 , a riser card 508 , and a first expansion card 575 - 1 . Figure 6 Depicted Figure 5 The assembled three-dimensional diagram of the first riser card bracket assembly 500 is shown in FIG. Figures 5 and 6 Described.
[0053] As discussed above, a riser bracket bracket 450, such as the first bracket 450-1, includes a riser bracket body 202 and a first riser bracket window 304. In some examples, the riser bracket body 202 has a first coupling portion 210, a second coupling portion 212, and a first securing device 244. Similarly, the first riser bracket window 304 has a third coupling portion 314, a fourth coupling portion 318, and a second securing device 346. The first riser bracket bracket 450-1 further includes one or more first fasteners 416.
[0054] The adapter card 508 may be an electronic device 1100 (see Fig.11 ) electronic card. The riser card 508 includes a seventh coupling portion 524 (e.g., an aperture) to enable the riser card 508 to be coupled to the riser card bracket body 502. In some examples, the length dimension (not labeled) of the riser card 508 is parallel to the length dimension “L” of the riser card bracket body 202. B ” is arranged so that the seventh coupling portion 524 of the riser card 508 is aligned with the second coupling portion 212 of the riser card bracket body 202. In some examples, the riser card 508 includes a circuit board 528, a first electrical connector 530, and a second electrical connector 574 (e.g., a gold finger). In one or more examples, the first electrical connector 530 and the second electrical connector 574 are arranged perpendicular to each other and connected to the circuit board 528. In some examples, the second electrical connector 574 is configured to be connected to the system mainboard 1104 (e.g., motherboard, see Fig.11 ). In particular, the first electrical connector 530 is configured to align with the electrical connector 532 of the expansion card 575 and can be removably coupled to the electrical connector 532, so that the expansion card 575 is electrically connected to the system motherboard 1104 via the riser card 508. In some examples, the riser card 508 is a peripheral component interconnect express (PCI-e) card. The first riser card bracket bracket 450-1 further includes one or more second fasteners 516.
[0055] The expansion card 575 can be another electronic card (e.g., a display card, a graphics processing unit (GPU), an accelerator module, a network interface module (NIC), etc.) that can be removably connected to the electronic device 1100. In some examples, the expansion card 575 can be a first expansion card 575-1 having a full-height form factor. In some examples, the first expansion card 575-1 includes an eighth connection portion 536 (e.g., an orifice) to enable the first expansion card 575-1 to be connected to the first riser bracket bracket 450-1. The first expansion card 575-1 includes another circuit board 534 and an electrical connector 532 (e.g., an electrical plug or socket), which can be engaged with the first electrical connector 530 of the riser card 508 (e.g., inserted into the first electrical connector) to add and / or expand the functionality of the electronic device 1100. In some examples, the full-height expansion card 575-1 is a PCI-e expansion card. The first riser bracket bracket 450-1 further includes one or more third fasteners 542.
[0056] In some examples, the first riser bracket window 304 is selected to secure and provide support for the full-height expansion card 575-1. In such an example, the length dimension "L" of the first riser bracket window 304 is W1 ” (See Figure 3 ) is perpendicular to the length dimension “L” of the riser bracket body 202 B ” (See Figure 2 ) is arranged such that the third coupling portion 314 of the first riser card holder window 304 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202. In addition, the first fastener 416 is interchangeably extended through the first coupling portion 210 and the third coupling portion 314 to removably connect the first riser card holder window 304 to the riser card holder body 202 and assemble the first riser card holder bracket 450-1. The riser card 508 is arranged in the riser card holder body 202 of the riser card holder bracket 450-1 such that the seventh coupling portion 524 of the riser card 508 is aligned with the second coupling portion 212 of the riser card holder body 202. In addition, the second fastener 526 extends through the seventh coupling portion 524 and the second coupling portion 212 to couple the riser card 508 to the riser card holder body 202 and form the first riser card holder assembly 500. In other words, the first riser bracket bracket 450-1 and the riser card 508 together define the first riser bracket assembly 500. In such an example, the riser card 508 coupled to the riser bracket body 202 is supported by the first riser bracket bracket 450-1. In one or more examples, when the first riser bracket window 304 is removably connected to the riser bracket body 202, a first space 440 is defined between the riser bracket body 202 and the first riser bracket window 304 (see Figure 4). In some examples, the first space 440 has a first dimension defined by the riser bracket body 202 and the first riser bracket window 304. In particular, the first dimension of the first space 440 can be compatible with the form factor (e.g., full-height form factor) of the first expansion card 575-1 to allow the first expansion card 575-1 to be received by the first riser bracket assembly 500. In other words, the first expansion card 575-1 having the full-height form factor can have a dimension equal to the first dimension of the first space 440, thereby allowing the first riser bracket assembly 500 to receive the first expansion card 575-1 in the first space 440. In some examples, when the first expansion card 575-1 is disposed in the first space 440, a portion 576-1 of the first expansion card 575-1 protrudes through the first opening 372-1 in the first riser bracket window 304 and extends beyond the first riser bracket bracket 450-1. Similarly, another portion 576-1 of the first expansion card 575-2 protrudes through the second opening 372-2 in the first riser bracket window 304 and extends beyond the first riser bracket bracket 450-1. In addition, when the first expansion card 575-1 is disposed in the first space 540, the eighth coupling portion 536 in the first expansion card 575-1 is aligned with the fourth coupling portion 318 in the first riser bracket window 304. In such an example, the third fastener 542 engages with the fourth coupling portion 318 of the first riser bracket window 304 and the eighth coupling portion 536 of the first expansion card 575-1 to couple the first expansion card 575-1 to the first riser bracket assembly 500. In some examples, when the first expansion card 575-1 is disposed in the first space 440 and coupled to the first riser card bracket bracket 450-1, the first electrical connector 530 of the riser card 508 is interchangeably and detachably coupled to the electrical connector 532-1 of the first expansion card 575-1, and the second electrical connector 574 of the riser card 508 is detachably coupled to the main electrical connector 1106 of the system motherboard 1104 of the electronic device 1100 (see Fig.11 ), thereby establishing an electrical connection between the system mainboard 1104 and the first expansion card 575 - 1 through the adapter card 508.
[0057] Since the first riser bracket bracket 450-1 can be easily assembled by interchangeably and removably connecting the first riser bracket window 304 to the common riser bracket body 202 to form a new riser bracket bracket 450-1 compatible with the first expansion card 575-1, the new riser bracket bracket 450-1 provides flexibility, maintainability, and benefits from the supply chain in terms of reducing the number of off-the-shelf riser bracket brackets required for inventory. In addition, the assembly, maintenance, and replacement of the first riser bracket bracket 450-1 are inexpensive because the riser bracket body 202 and the riser card 508 are retained, and only the pre-installed riser bracket window that is not compatible with the first expansion card 575-1 is replaced with the first riser bracket window 304 that is compatible with the first expansion card 575-1 to assemble the first riser bracket bracket 450-1 of the first riser bracket assembly 500.
[0058] Figure 7 A perspective view of the second riser bracket window 704 is depicted. In some examples, the second riser bracket window 704 is a riser bracket bracket 850 (see Figure 8 ). The second riser bracket window 704 includes a first attachment component 760 and a second attachment component 762. The second attachment component 762 is arranged parallel to the first attachment component 760 and is connected to one end of the first attachment component 760.
[0059] In some examples, the first attachment member 760 has a first support wall 764, a second support wall 766, a third support wall 768, and a fourth support wall 770. The first support wall 764 and the second support wall 766 are arranged parallel to each other, and the third support wall 768 and the fourth support wall 770 are arranged perpendicular to each other, and the lateral sides of the third side wall 767 and the fourth support wall 770 are coupled to each other. In addition, one longitudinal side and one radial side of the first support wall 764 are respectively coupled to the corresponding longitudinal side of the third support wall 768 and the corresponding radial side of the fourth support wall 770. Similarly, one longitudinal side and one radial side of the second support wall 766 are respectively coupled to the other corresponding longitudinal side of the third support wall 768 and the other corresponding radial side of the fourth support wall 770. Therefore, the first support wall 764, the second support wall 766, the third support wall 768, and the fourth support wall 770 are coupled so that the first attachment member 760 defines a hollow section therebetween. The second attachment member 762 includes a first wall 774 and a second wall 776, the second wall being disposed perpendicular to the first wall 774 and coupled to the first wall 774 to define an "L" shaped structure. In some examples, the first wall 774 is further coupled to an end portion of another longitudinal side of the first support wall 764. Similarly, the second wall 776 is further coupled to another lateral side of the fourth support wall 770. In one or more examples, the first attachment member 760 can be configured to receive an expansion card 975 such as a second expansion card 975-1 (see Fig. 9 ), and the second attachment member 762 may be configured to be mounted on the riser bracket body 202 having the first coupling portion 210 (see Figure 2 ). In such an example, the third support wall 768 includes a first opening 772-1 that allows the portion of the second expansion card 975-1 to extend beyond the first attachment member 760. Similarly, the fourth support wall 770 includes a second opening 772-2 that allows another portion of the second expansion card 975-1 to extend beyond the first attachment member 760. The second attachment member 762 can be installed within a portion of the riser bracket body 202 having the first coupling portion 210 to enable the second riser bracket window 704 to be coupled to the riser bracket body 202. For example, the first wall 774 and the second wall 776 of the second attachment member 762 include a third coupling portion 714 (e.g., an aperture) to enable the second riser bracket window 704 to be removably connected to the riser bracket body 202. It should be noted that the longitudinal side can extend along the first direction 10, the lateral side can extend along the second direction 20, and the radial side can extend along the third direction 30.
[0060] In some examples, the free end of the third support wall 768 of the first attachment member 760 includes one of the third fixing devices 754, and the fourth support wall 770 includes the other of the third fixing devices 754. The third support wall 768 further includes a sixth coupling portion 722 (e.g., an orifice) to enable the second riser card bracket window 704 to be coupled to the second expansion card 975-1, and thereby to fix and support the second expansion card 975-1. In one or more examples, the third fixing device 754 can enable the second riser card bracket window 704 to be mounted to the chassis 1202. In one or more examples, the second riser card bracket window 704 has a length dimension “L” extending along the first direction 10 W2 In particular, the length dimension "L W2 ” may be defined by the first attachment member 760. The second riser card bracket window 704 further has a height dimension “H” extending along the second direction 20 W2 In particular, the height dimension "H W2 ” may be defined by each of the first attachment member 760 and the second attachment member 762. In addition, the second riser bracket window 704 has a width dimension “W” extending along the third direction 30. W2 In particular, the width dimension "W W2 ” can be defined by the first attachment member 760 and the second attachment member 762. In some examples, the length dimension “L W2 ” may be associated with a low profile configuration or low profile of the second expansion card 975-1.
[0061] Figure 8 A perspective view of a riser bracket bracket 850, such as a second riser bracket bracket 850-1, is depicted. In one or more examples, the second riser bracket bracket 850-1 includes a riser bracket body 202 and a second riser bracket window 704. The second riser bracket window 704 is configured to be interchangeably and removably connected to the riser bracket body 202 to assemble the riser bracket bracket 850-1. In some examples, the length dimension "L" of the second riser bracket window 704 is W2 ” is perpendicular to the length dimension of the riser bracket body 202 “L B” is arranged so that the third coupling portion 714 of the second riser card holder window 704 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202. In particular, the third coupling portion 714 in the first wall 774 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 in the first arm 256. Similarly, the third coupling portion 714 in the second wall 776 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 in the second arm 258. In such an example, each of the one or more first fasteners 816 can interchangeably extend through the corresponding first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202 and the corresponding third coupling portion 714 in the second riser card holder window 704 to removably connect the second riser card holder window 704 to the riser card holder body 202 and assemble the second riser card holder bracket 850-1.
[0062] In one or more examples, when the second riser card holder window 704 is removably connected to the riser card holder body 202, a second space 840 is defined between the riser card holder body 202 and the second riser card holder window 704. In some examples, the first space 840 has dimensions defined by the riser card holder body 202 and the second riser card holder window 704. These dimensions include a length or longitudinal dimension extending along the first direction 10 (also referred to herein as the second length "L2"), a height or lateral dimension extending along the second direction 20 (also referred to herein as the second height "H2"), and a width or radial dimension extending along the third direction 30 (also referred to herein as the second width "W2"). These dimensions may be collectively referred to herein as second dimensions. In addition, the second dimensions of the second space 840 may be compatible with the form factor (e.g., a low profile form factor) of the second expansion card 975-1 to allow the second expansion card 975-1 to be received by the second riser card holder assembly 900 (see Figures 9 and 10 ) is received in the second space 840. In other words, the second expansion card 975-1 having a low-profile form factor can have a size similar to (i.e., equal to or slightly smaller than) the second size of the second space 840, thereby allowing the second riser-card holder bracket 850-1 of the second riser-card holder assembly 900 to receive the second expansion card 975-1 in the second space 840 (e.g., the length of the second expansion card 975-1 is equal to or less than "L2", the width of the second expansion card 975-1 is equal to or less than "H2", and so on).
[0063] Fig. 9 An exploded perspective view of a second riser card bracket assembly 900 having a riser card bracket bracket 850 , a riser card 508 , and a second expansion card 975 - 1 is depicted. Fig.10 Depicted Fig. 9 The assembled three-dimensional diagram of the second riser card bracket assembly 900 is shown in FIG. Figures 5 and 6 Described.
[0064] As discussed above, a riser bracket bracket 850, such as the second bracket bracket 850-1, includes a riser bracket body 202 and a second riser bracket window 704. In some examples, the riser bracket body 202 has a first coupling portion 210, a second coupling portion 212, and a first fixing device 244. Similarly, the second riser bracket window 704 has a third coupling portion 714, a sixth coupling portion 722, and a third fixing device 754. The second riser bracket bracket 850-1 further includes one or more first fasteners 816.
[0065] The adapter card 508 may be an electronic device 1200 (see Fig.12 ) electronic card. Figures 9 and 10 The riser card 508 depicted in the example of Figures 5 and 6 The riser card 508 includes a seventh coupling portion 524 (e.g., an aperture) to enable the riser card 508 to couple to the riser card bracket body 502. In some examples, the second electrical connector 574 is configured to be connected to the system mainboard 1204 (e.g., motherboard, see Fig.12 ). In particular, the first electrical connector 530 is configured to align with and removably couple to the electrical connector 932 of the expansion card 975, such that the expansion card 975 is electrically connected to the system motherboard 1204 via the riser card 508. In some examples, the riser card 508 is a peripheral component interconnect express (PCI-e) card. The first riser card bracket bracket 850-1 further includes one or more second fasteners 916.
[0066] The expansion card 975 can be another electronic card (e.g., a display card, a graphics processing unit (GPU), an accelerator module, a network interface module (NIC), etc.) that can be removably connected to the electronic device 1200. In some examples, the expansion card 975 can be a second expansion card 975-1 having a low-profile form factor. In some examples, the second expansion card 975-1 includes a ninth connection portion 938 (e.g., an orifice) to enable the second expansion card 975-1 to be connected to the second riser bracket bracket 850-1. The second expansion card 975-1 includes another circuit board 934 and an electrical connector 932-1 (e.g., an electrical plug or socket), which can be engaged with the first electrical connector 530 of the riser card 508 (e.g., inserted into the first electrical connector) to add and / or expand the functionality of the electronic device 1200. In some examples, the low-profile expansion card 975-1 is a PCI-e expansion card. The second riser bracket bracket 850-1 further includes one or more third fasteners 942.
[0067] In some examples, the second riser card bracket window 704 is selected to secure and provide support for the low-profile expansion card 975-1. In such an example, the length dimension "L" of the second riser card bracket window 704 is W2 ” (See Figure 7 ) is perpendicular to the length dimension “L” of the riser bracket body 202 B ” (See Figure 2 ) is arranged so that the third coupling portion 714 of the second riser card holder window 704 is aligned with the first coupling portion 210 of the riser card holder body 202. In addition, the first fastener 816 is interchangeably extended through the first coupling portion 210 and the third coupling portion 714 to removably connect the second riser card holder window 704 to the riser card holder body 202 and assemble the second riser card holder bracket 850-1. The riser card 508 is arranged in the riser card holder body 202 of the riser card holder bracket 850-1 so that the seventh coupling portion 524 of the riser card 508 is aligned with the second coupling portion 212 of the riser card holder body 202. In addition, the second fastener 526 extends through the seventh coupling portion 524 and the second coupling portion 212 to connect the riser card 508 to the riser card holder body 202 and form the second riser card holder assembly 900. In other words, the second riser bracket bracket 850-1 and the riser card 508 together define the second riser bracket assembly 900. In such an example, the riser card 508 coupled to the riser bracket body 202 is supported by the second riser bracket bracket 850-1. In one or more examples, when the second riser bracket window 704 is removably connected to the riser bracket body 202, a second space 840 is defined between the riser bracket body 202 and the second riser bracket window 804 (see Figure 8). In some examples, the second space 840 has a second dimension defined by the riser bracket body 202 and the second riser bracket window 704. In particular, the second dimension of the second space 840 can be compatible with the form factor (e.g., a low-profile form factor) of the second expansion card 975-1 to allow the second expansion card 975-1 to be received by the second riser bracket assembly 900. In other words, the second expansion card 975-1 having the low-profile form factor can have a dimension equal to the second dimension of the second space 840, thereby allowing the second riser bracket assembly 900 to receive the second expansion card 975-1 in the second space 840. In some examples, when the second expansion card 975-1 is disposed in the second space 840, a portion 976-1 of the second expansion card 975-1 protrudes through the second opening 772-1 in the second riser bracket window 704 and extends beyond the second riser bracket bracket 850-1. Similarly, another portion 776-1 of the second expansion card 975-2 protrudes through the second opening 772-2 in the second riser bracket window 704 and extends beyond the second riser bracket bracket 850-1. In addition, when the second expansion card 975-1 is disposed in the second space 840, the ninth coupling portion 938 in the second expansion card 975-1 is aligned with the sixth coupling portion 722 in the second riser bracket window 704. In such an example, the third fastener 942 engages with the sixth coupling portion 722 of the second riser bracket window 704 and the ninth coupling portion 938 of the second expansion card 975-1 to couple the second expansion card 975-1 to the second riser bracket assembly 900. In some examples, when the second expansion card 975-1 is disposed in the second space 840 and coupled to the second riser card bracket bracket 850-1, the first electrical connector 530 of the riser card 508 is interchangeably and detachably coupled to the electrical connector 932-1 of the second expansion card 975-1, and the second electrical connector 574 of the riser card 508 is detachably coupled to the main electrical connector 1206 of the system motherboard 1204 of the electronic device 1200 (see Fig.12 ), thereby establishing an electrical connection between the system mainboard 1204 and the second expansion card 975-1 through the adapter card 508.
[0068] Since the second riser bracket bracket 850-1 can be easily assembled by interchangeably and removably connecting the second riser bracket window 704 to the common riser bracket body 202 to form a new riser bracket bracket 850-1 compatible with the second expansion card 975-1, the new riser bracket bracket 850-1 provides flexibility, maintainability, and benefits from the supply chain in terms of reducing the number of off-the-shelf riser bracket brackets required for inventory. In addition, the assembly, maintenance, and replacement of the second riser bracket bracket 850-1 are inexpensive because the riser bracket body 202 and the riser card 508 are retained, and only the pre-installed riser bracket window that is not compatible with the second expansion card 975-1 is replaced with the second riser bracket window 704 that is compatible with the second expansion card 975-1 to assemble the second riser bracket bracket 850-1 of the second riser bracket assembly 900.
[0069] Fig.11 Describes the Figure 6 The electronic device 1100 of the first riser card bracket assembly 500 is an exploded perspective view. In some examples, the electronic device 1100 can be a computer (e.g., a server, a storage device, etc.), a networking device (e.g., a transceiver, a wireless access point, a router, a switch, etc.), etc. Fig.11 In some examples, the electronic device 1100 is a server. In some examples, the electronic device 1100 includes a housing 1102 and electronic components such as a system mainboard 1104 (eg, a motherboard) and a first riser bracket assembly 500 .
[0070] The housing 1102 includes a plurality of channels 1180 defined by a bracket 1182 coupled to a base 1184 of the housing 1102. For example, the housing 1102 includes two channels 1180, namely, a first channel 1180-1 and a second channel 1180-2, wherein each channel is configured to receive a first riser card bracket assembly 500 and another first riser card bracket assembly 500-2. The system mainboard 1104 may be a printed circuit board of the electronic device 1100 in which circuits (such as conductive strips disposed on or in a dielectric sheet) are integrated, and one or more integrated circuits (ICs), one or more input / output ports, power ports, electronic components, etc. are attached to the printed circuit board. In some examples, the system mainboard 1104 includes a main electrical connector 1106.
[0071] In some examples, the first riser card bracket assembly 500 is disposed in the first channel 1180-1 of the chassis 1102. In such an example, when the first riser card bracket assembly 500 is disposed in the first channel 1108-1, the second electrical connector 574 (see Figure 5) is interchangeably and removably connected to the main electrical connector 1106 of the system main board 1104 to establish an electrical connection between the system main board 1104 and the first expansion card 575-1 through the riser card 508, thereby allowing the first expansion card 575-1 to be added to the electronic device 1100 to meet / expand further requirements or functions of the electronic device 1100. In addition, in some examples, the first fixture 244 and one or more second fixtures 346 of the first riser card bracket assembly 500 are connected to the housing 1120 (e.g., the bracket 1182 and the base 1184 of the housing 1102) to enable the first riser card bracket assembly 500 to be installed to the electronic device 1100. Fig.11 In the example, another first riser card bracket assembly 500-2 is shown to be pre-set in the second narrow slot 1180-2, so that the riser card (not shown) of the other first riser card bracket assembly 500-2 is connected to the second main connector (not shown) of the system mainboard 1104.
[0072] Fig.12 Describes the Fig. 9 The electronic device 1200 of the second riser card bracket assembly 900 is an exploded perspective view. In some examples, the electronic device 1200 can be a computer (e.g., a server, a storage device, etc.), a networking device (e.g., a transceiver, a wireless access point, a router, a switch, etc.), etc. Fig.12 In some examples, the electronic device 1200 is a server. In some examples, the electronic device 1200 includes a housing 1202 and electronic components such as a system mainboard 1204 (eg, a motherboard) and a second riser bracket assembly 900.
[0073] The housing 1202 includes a plurality of channels 1280 defined by a bracket 1282 coupled to a base 1284 of the housing 1202. For example, the housing 1202 includes three channels 1280, namely, a first channel 1280-1, a second channel 1180-2, and a third channel 1180-3, wherein each channel is configured to receive a second riser card bracket assembly 900 and another second riser card bracket assembly 900-2 and yet another second riser card bracket assembly 900-3. The system mainboard 1204 may be a printed circuit board of the electronic device 1200 in which circuits (such as conductive strips disposed on or in a dielectric sheet) are integrated, and one or more integrated circuits (ICs), one or more input / output ports, power ports, electronic components, etc. are attached to the printed circuit board. In some examples, the system mainboard 1204 includes a main electrical connector 1206.
[0074] In some examples, the second riser card bracket assembly 900 is disposed in the first channel 1280-1 of the housing 1202. In such an example, when the second riser card bracket assembly 900 is disposed in the first channel 1208-1, the second electrical connector 574 (see Figure 5 ) is interchangeably and removably connected to the main electrical connector 1206 of the system main board 1204 to establish an electrical connection between the system main board 1204 and the first expansion card 975-1 through the riser card 508, thereby allowing the first expansion card 975-1 to be added to the electronic device 1200 to meet / expand further requirements or functions of the electronic device 1200. In addition, in some examples, the first fixture 244 and one or more third fixtures 754 of the second riser card bracket assembly 900 are connected to the housing 1220 (e.g., the bracket 1282 and the base 1284 of the housing 1202) to enable the second riser card bracket assembly 900 to be installed to the electronic device 1200. Fig.12 In the example of FIG. 1200 , another second riser card bracket assembly 900-2 is shown as being pre-set in the second slot 1280-2, so that the riser card (not shown) of the second riser card bracket assembly 900-2 is connected to the second main connector (not shown) of the system mainboard 1204. Similarly, yet another second riser card bracket assembly 900-3 is not shown as being pre-set in the third slot 1280-3, so that the riser card (not shown) of yet another second riser card bracket assembly 900-3 is connected to the second main connector (not shown) of the system mainboard 1204.
[0075] Fig.13 A flow chart showing a method 1300 of assembling a riser bracket bracket is depicted. It should be noted herein that, for example, in conjunction with Figures 1A to 1C and Figures 2 to 12 The method 1300 is described. The method 1300 starts at block 1302 and continues to block 1304.
[0076] At block 1304 , method 1300 includes determining a desired configuration of the riser bracket bracket, the desired configuration being one of a full-height configuration in which the riser bracket bracket is configured to support a full-height expansion card or a low-profile configuration in which the riser bracket bracket is configured to support a low-profile expansion card. Method 1300 continues to block 1306 .
[0077] At block 1306, method 1300 includes selecting a riser card bracket window from a group including: a first riser card bracket window associated with a full-height configuration, and a second riser card bracket window associated with a low-profile configuration based on a desired configuration of the riser card bracket bracket. In some examples, when the first riser card bracket window is selected to assemble the riser card bracket bracket, a first space is defined between the riser card bracket body and the first riser card bracket window to receive a full-height expansion card that is removably coupled to the riser card bracket bracket. However, when the second riser card bracket window is selected to assemble the riser card bracket bracket, a second space is defined between the riser card bracket body and the second riser card bracket window to receive a low-profile expansion card that is removably coupled to the riser card bracket bracket. Method 1300 continues to block 1308.
[0078] At block 1308, method 1300 also includes removably connecting the selected riser card bracket window to the riser card bracket body to assemble the riser card bracket bracket. In some examples, removably connecting the selected riser card bracket window to the riser card bracket body includes arranging a length dimension of the selected riser card bracket window perpendicular to a length dimension of the riser card bracket body and engaging one or more fasteners with coupling portions of the selected riser card bracket window and the riser card bracket body to removably connect the selected riser card bracket window to the riser card bracket body.
[0079] In some examples, method 1300 also includes coupling a riser card to a riser card bracket body, wherein the riser card is configured to be removably coupled to an electronic device and to be interchangeably removably coupled to a full-height expansion card and a low-profile expansion card. Method 1300 also includes removably coupling one of the full-height expansion card or the low-profile expansion card to a first electrical connector of the riser card. In addition, the method includes disposing a riser card bracket bracket in the electronic device so that a second electrical connector of the riser card is removably coupled to a system motherboard of the electronic device to establish an electrical connection between the system motherboard and one of the full-height expansion card or the low-profile expansion card through the riser card.
[0080] In some examples, when the desired configuration is a full-height configuration, selecting includes selecting a first riser bracket window, and removably connecting includes removably connecting the first riser bracket window to the riser bracket body. In such an example, method 1300 further includes inserting a full-height expansion card into a first space defined between the riser bracket body and the first riser bracket window, and removably connecting the full-height expansion card to the riser bracket bracket. Similarly, when the desired configuration is a low-profile configuration, selecting includes selecting a second riser bracket window, and removably connecting includes removably connecting the second riser bracket window to the riser bracket body. In such an example, method 1300 further includes inserting a low-profile expansion card into a second space defined between the riser bracket body and the second riser bracket window, and removably connecting the low-profile expansion card to the riser bracket bracket. In one or more examples, the riser card is a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI-e) card, and wherein each of the full-height expansion card and the low-profile expansion card is a PCI-e expansion card. The method 1300 ends at block 1310.
[0081] Fig.14 A flow chart illustrating a method 1400 of uninstalling a riser card bracket assembly in a first configuration from an electronic device, reconfiguring the riser card bracket assembly from the first configuration to a second configuration, and installing the riser card bracket assembly in the second configuration to an electronic device is depicted. Figures 1A to 1C and Figures 2 to 12 Method 1400 is described. Method 1400 begins at block 1402 and continues to block 1404.
[0082] At block 1404, method 1400 includes uninstalling the riser bracket assembly in the first configuration from the electronic device. In some examples, the riser bracket assembly in the first configuration includes: i) a riser bracket bracket having a riser bracket body and a first riser bracket window, the first riser bracket window removably connected to the riser bracket body and defining a first space; ii) a riser card coupled to the riser bracket body; and iii) a first expansion card having a first form factor disposed in the first space and removably coupled to the riser card. Method 1400 continues to block 1406.
[0083] At block 1406, method 1400 includes reconfiguring the riser bracket assembly from the first configuration to the second configuration. In some examples, reconfiguring the riser bracket assembly includes: i) disengaging the first expansion card from the riser card, ii) disconnecting the first riser bracket window from the riser bracket body, iii) removably connecting the second riser bracket window to the riser bracket body to define a second space, the second space being different in size from the first space, and iv) coupling a second expansion card having a second form factor to the riser card. In some examples, removably connecting the second riser bracket window to the riser bracket body to define the second space includes: a) setting a length dimension of the second riser bracket window perpendicular to a length dimension of the riser bracket body, and b) engaging one or more fasteners with a coupling portion of the second riser bracket window and the riser bracket body to removably connect the second riser bracket window to the riser bracket body. Method 1400 continues to block 1408.
[0084] At block 1408 , method 1400 includes installing the riser card bracket assembly in the second configuration to an electronic device. Method 1400 ends at block 1410 .
[0085] Since a new riser bracket bracket can be easily assembled by interchangeably and removably connecting one of multiple types of riser bracket windows to a common riser bracket body to form a new riser bracket bracket compatible with a specific type of expansion card, the new riser bracket bracket provides flexibility, maintainability, and benefits from the supply chain in terms of reducing the number of off-the-shelf riser bracket brackets required for inventory.
[0086] In the foregoing description, many details are set forth to provide an understanding of the subject matter disclosed herein. However, embodiments may be practiced without some or all of these details. Other embodiments may include modifications, combinations, and variations of the details discussed above. The appended claims are intended to cover such modifications and variations.
