[0021] Exemplary Devices

[0022] Embodiments of electronic devices, user interfaces for such devices, and associated processes for using such devices are described herein. In some embodiments, the device is a portable communication device, such as a mobile phone, that also includes other functions, such as a PDA and / or a music player function. Exemplary embodiments of portable multifunction devices include, but are not limited to, the Apple Watch from Apple Inc. (Cupertino, California). Devices, iPod Equipment, and Device. Other portable electronic devices are optionally used, such as laptops or tablet computers with touch-sensitive surfaces (e.g., touch screen displays and / or touch pads). It should also be understood that in some embodiments, the device is not a portable communication device, but a desktop computer or television with a touch-sensitive surface (e.g., touch screen displays and / or touch pads). In some embodiments, the device does not have a touch screen display and / or a touch pad, but is capable of outputting display information (such as a user interface of the present disclosure) for display on an independent display device, and is capable of receiving input information from an independent input device with one or more input mechanisms (such as one or more buttons, touch screen displays and / or touch pads). In some embodiments, the device has a display, but is capable of receiving input information from an independent input device with one or more input mechanisms (such as one or more buttons, touch screen displays and / or touch pads). In some embodiments, the electronic device is a computer system that communicates with a display generation component (e.g., via wireless communication, via wired communication). The display generation component is configured to provide a visual output, such as a display via a CRT display, a display via an LED display, or a display via image projection. In some embodiments, the display generation component is integrated with the computer system. In some embodiments, the display generation component is separate from the computer system. As used herein, "displaying" content includes displaying content (e.g., video data rendered or decoded by display controller 156) by transmitting data (e.g., image data or video data) to an integrated or external display generation component via a wired or wireless connection to visually generate the content.

[0023] In the following discussion, an electronic device including a display and a touch-sensitive surface is described. However, it should be understood that the electronic device optionally includes one or more other physical user interface devices, such as a physical keyboard, a mouse and / or a joystick. In addition, as described above, it should be understood that the described electronic device, display, and touch-sensitive surface are optionally distributed among two or more devices. Therefore, as used in the present disclosure, information displayed on or by an electronic device is optionally used to describe information output by the electronic device to be displayed on an independent display device (touch-sensitive or non-touch-sensitive). Similarly, as used in the present disclosure, input received on an electronic device (e.g., touch input received on a touch-sensitive surface of an electronic device) is optionally used to describe input received on an independent input device, and the electronic device receives input information from the independent input device.

[0024] The device typically supports a variety of applications, such as one or more of the following applications: a drawing application, a presentation application, a word processing application, a website creation application, a disk editing application, a spreadsheet application, a gaming application, a telephony application, a video conferencing application, an email application, an instant messaging application, a fitness support application, a photo management application, a digital camera application, a digital video camera application, a web browsing application, a digital music player application, a television channel browsing application, and / or a digital video player application.

[0025] Various applications executed on the device optionally use at least one common physical user interface device, such as a touch-sensitive surface. One or more functions of the touch-sensitive surface and corresponding information displayed on the device are optionally adjusted and / or varied for different applications, and / or adjusted and / or varied within the respective applications. In this way, the common physical architecture of the device (such as a touch-sensitive surface) optionally supports a variety of applications with a user interface that is intuitive and clear to the user.

[0026] Attention is now directed to embodiments of a portable or non-portable device having a touch-sensitive display, although the device need not include a touch-sensitive display or a general display as described above. Figure 1A 1 is a block diagram showing a portable or non-portable multifunction device 100 with a touch-sensitive display 112 according to some embodiments. The touch-sensitive display 112 is sometimes referred to as a "touch screen" for convenience, and is sometimes referred to as or referred to as a touch-sensitive display system. The device 100 includes a memory 102 (which optionally includes one or more computer-readable storage media), a memory controller 122, one or more processing units (CPUs) 120, a peripheral device interface 118, an RF circuit 108, an audio circuit 110, a speaker 111, a microphone 113, an input / output (I / O) subsystem 106, other input or control devices 116, and an external port 124. The device 100 optionally includes one or more optical sensors 164. The device 100 optionally includes one or more contact force sensors 165 for detecting the intensity of contact on the device 100 (e.g., a touch-sensitive surface, such as the touch-sensitive display system 112 of the device 100). Device 100 optionally includes one or more tactile output generators 167 for generating tactile output on device 100 (e.g., generating tactile output on a touch-sensitive surface such as touch-sensitive display system 112 of device 100 or touch pad 355 of device 300). These components optionally communicate via one or more communication buses or signal lines 103.

[0027] As used in this specification and claims, the term "intensity" of a contact on a touch-sensitive surface refers to the force or pressure (force per unit area) of a contact (e.g., a finger contact) on the touch-sensitive surface, or to a surrogate (surrogate) of the force or pressure of a contact on the touch-sensitive surface. The intensity of a contact has a range of values that includes at least four different values and more typically includes hundreds of different values (e.g., at least 256). The intensity of a contact is optionally determined (or measured) using various methods and various sensors or combinations of sensors. For example, one or more force sensors below or adjacent to the touch-sensitive surface are optionally used to measure the force at different points on the touch-sensitive surface. In some embodiments, force measurements from multiple force sensors are combined (e.g., weighted averaged) to determine an estimated contact force. Similarly, the pressure-sensitive tip of a stylus is optionally used to determine the pressure of the stylus on the touch-sensitive surface. Alternatively, the size of the contact area detected on the touch-sensitive surface and / or its change, the capacitance of the touch-sensitive surface near the contact and / or its change, and / or the resistance of the touch-sensitive surface near the contact and / or its change are optionally used as a substitute for the force or pressure of the contact on the touch-sensitive surface. In some embodiments, the substitute measurement of the contact force or pressure is used directly to determine whether the intensity threshold has been exceeded (e.g., the intensity threshold is described in units corresponding to the substitute measurement). In some embodiments, the substitute measurement of the contact force or pressure is converted to an estimated force or pressure, and the estimated force or pressure is used to determine whether the intensity threshold has been exceeded (e.g., the intensity threshold is a pressure threshold measured in pressure units). Using the intensity of the contact as an attribute of the user input allows the user to access additional device functions that would otherwise be inaccessible to the user on a smaller device with limited real estate, which is used to display an enable indication (e.g., on a touch-sensitive display) and / or receive user input (e.g., via a touch-sensitive display, a touch-sensitive surface, or a physical control / mechanical control, such as a knob or button).

[0028] As used in this specification and claims, the term "tactile output" refers to a physical displacement of a device relative to a previous position of the device, a physical displacement of a component of the device (e.g., a touch-sensitive surface) relative to another component of the device (e.g., a housing), or a displacement of a component relative to the center of mass of the device, which will be detected by a user using the user's sense of touch. For example, in the case where a device or a component of the device is in contact with a user's touch-sensitive surface (e.g., a finger, palm, or other part of the user's hand), the tactile output generated by the physical displacement will be interpreted by the user as a tactile sensation that corresponds to a perceived change in a physical characteristic of the device or component of the device. For example, movement of a touch-sensitive surface (e.g., a touch-sensitive display or trackpad) is optionally interpreted by the user as a "press click" or "release click" to a physical actuation button. In some cases, the user will feel a tactile sensation, such as a "press click" or "release click", even when the physical actuation button associated with the touch-sensitive surface that is physically pressed (e.g., displaced) by the user's movement does not move. As another example, movement of the touch-sensitive surface may optionally be interpreted or sensed by the user as "roughness" of the touch-sensitive surface even when there is no change in the smoothness of the touch-sensitive surface. While such a user's interpretation of touch will be limited by the user's individualized sensory perceptions, many sensory perceptions of touch are common to most users. Thus, when tactile outputs are described as corresponding to a particular sensory perception of a user (e.g., "release click," "press click," "roughness"), unless otherwise stated, the generated tactile outputs correspond to physical displacements of the device or a component thereof that would generate the described sensory perceptions for a typical (or average) user.

[0029] It should be understood that device 100 is only one example of a portable or non-portable multifunction device, and that device 100 optionally has more or fewer components than shown, optionally combines two or more components, or optionally has a different configuration or arrangement of the components. Figure 1A The various components shown in the embodiment are implemented in hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software, including one or more signal processing and / or application specific integrated circuits. Figure 1A The various components shown in are optionally implemented on two or more devices; for example, a display and audio circuitry on a display device, a touch-sensitive surface on an input device, and the remaining components on device 100. In such embodiments, device 100 optionally communicates with the display device and / or input device to facilitate operation of the system as described in the present disclosure, and the various display and / or input-related components described herein remain in device 100, or are optionally included in the display and / or input device as appropriate.

[0030] Memory 102 optionally includes high-speed random access memory, and optionally also includes non-volatile memory, such as one or more disk storage devices, flash memory devices, or other non-volatile solid-state memory devices. [0034] The audio circuit 110, speaker 111, and microphone 113 provide an audio interface between a user and the device 100. The audio circuit 110 receives audio data from the peripheral device interface 118, converts the audio data into electrical signals, and transmits the electrical signals to the speaker 111. The speaker 111 converts the electrical signals into sound waves audible to humans. The audio circuit 110 also receives electrical signals converted from sound waves by the microphone 113. The audio circuit 110 converts the electrical signals into audio data and transmits the audio data to the peripheral device interface 118 for processing. The audio data is optionally retrieved from and / or transmitted to the memory 102 and / or the RF circuit 108 by the peripheral device interface 118. In some embodiments, the audio circuit 110 also includes a headset jack (e.g., Figure 2 The headset jack provides an interface between the audio circuit 110 and a removable audio input / output peripheral device, such as an output-only headset or a headset having both output (e.g., a single or dual-ear headset) and input (e.g., a microphone).

[0035] The I / O subsystem 106 couples input / output peripherals on the device 100, such as a touch screen 112 and other input control devices 116, to a peripheral device interface 118. The I / O subsystem 106 optionally includes a display controller 156, an optical sensor controller 158, an intensity sensor controller 159, a tactile feedback controller 161, and one or more input controllers 160 for other input or control devices. [0053] The contact / motion module 130 optionally detects contact with the touch screen 112 (in conjunction with the display controller 156) and other touch-sensitive devices (e.g., a touchpad or physical click wheel). The contact / motion module 130 includes various software components for performing various operations related to contact detection, such as determining whether contact has occurred (e.g., detecting a finger press event), determining the contact strength (e.g., the force or pressure of the contact, or a substitute for the force or pressure of the contact), determining whether there is movement of the contact and tracking the movement on the touch-sensitive surface (e.g., detecting one or more finger drag events), and determining whether the contact has stopped (e.g., detecting a finger lift event or contact disconnection). The contact / motion module 130 receives contact data from the touch-sensitive surface. Determining the movement of a contact point optionally includes determining a rate (magnitude), velocity (magnitude and direction), and / or acceleration (change in magnitude and / or direction) of the contact point, the movement of which is represented by a series of contact data. In some embodiments, the contact / motion module 130 and display controller 156 detect contact on the touch pad.

[0054] In some embodiments, the contact / motion module 130 uses a set of one or more intensity thresholds to determine whether an action has been performed by a user (e.g., to determine whether a user has "clicked" an icon). In some embodiments, at least a subset of the intensity thresholds is determined based on software parameters (e.g., the intensity thresholds are not determined by the activation threshold of a particular physical actuator and can be adjusted without changing the physical hardware of the device 100). For example, without changing the touchpad or touchscreen display hardware, the mouse "click" threshold of a touchpad or touchscreen display can be set to any one of a large range of predefined thresholds. In addition, in some specific implementations, a software setting is provided to the user of the device for adjusting one or more intensity thresholds in a set of intensity thresholds (e.g., by adjusting individual intensity thresholds and / or by utilizing a system-level click on an "intensity" parameter to adjust multiple intensity thresholds at once).

[0055] The contact / motion module 130 optionally detects gesture input by the user. Different gestures on the touch-sensitive surface have different contact patterns (e.g., different motions, timings, and / or intensities of the detected contacts). Therefore, gestures are optionally detected by detecting specific contact patterns. For example, detecting a finger tap gesture includes detecting a finger press event, and then detecting a finger lift (lift-off) event at the same location (or substantially the same location) as the finger press event (e.g., at the location of an icon). As another example, detecting a finger swipe gesture on the touch-sensitive surface includes detecting a finger press event, then detecting one or more finger drag events, and then detecting a finger lift (lift-off) event.

[0100] In some embodiments, the device 100 is a device where the operation of a predefined set of functions on the device is performed exclusively through a touch screen and / or a touch pad. By using a touch screen and / or a touch pad as the primary input control device for operating the device 100, the number of physical input control devices (e.g., push buttons, dials, etc.) on the device 100 is optionally reduced.

[0101] A predefined set of functions that are performed exclusively through the touch screen and / or touchpad optionally includes navigation between user interfaces. In some embodiments, the touchpad, when touched by the user, navigates the device 100 to a main menu, a home menu, or a root menu from any user interface displayed on the device 100. In such embodiments, a "menu button" is implemented using the touchpad. In some other embodiments, the menu button is a physical push button or other physical input control device, rather than a touchpad.

[0102] Figure 1B 1 is a block diagram illustrating exemplary components for event processing according to some embodiments. In some embodiments, memory 102 ( Figure 1A ) or memory 370( Figure 3 ) includes an event classifier 170 (e.g., in the operating system 126) and a corresponding application 136-1 (e.g., any one of the aforementioned applications 137-151, 155, 380-390).

[0103] Event classifier 170 receives event information and determines the application 136-1 and the application view 191 of application 136-1 to which the event information is to be delivered. Event classifier 170 includes event monitor 171 and event distributor module 174. In some embodiments, application 136-1 includes application internal state 192, which indicates one or more current application views displayed on touch-sensitive display 112 when the application is active or executing. In some embodiments, device / global internal state 157 is used by event classifier 170 to determine which application(s) is currently active, and application internal state 192 is used by event classifier 170 to determine the application view 191 to which the event information is to be delivered.

[0104] In some embodiments, the application internal state 192 includes additional information, such as one or more of the following: resumption information to be used when the application 136-1 resumes execution, user interface state information indicating that information is being displayed or is ready to be displayed by the application 136-1, a state queue for enabling a user to return to a previous state or view of the application 136-1, and a repeat / undo queue of previous actions taken by the user.

[0105] Event monitor 171 receives event information from peripherals interface 118. Event information includes information about sub-events (e.g., user touches on touch-sensitive display 112 as part of a multi-touch gesture). Peripherals interface 118 transmits information it receives from I / O subsystem 106 or sensors such as proximity sensor 166, one or more accelerometers 168, and / or microphone 113 (through audio circuit 110). The information that peripherals interface 118 receives from I / O subsystem 106 includes information from touch-sensitive display 112 or a touch-sensitive surface.

[0106] In some embodiments, event monitor 171 sends requests to peripheral device interface 118 at predetermined intervals. In response, peripheral device interface 118 transmits event information. In other embodiments, peripheral device interface 118 transmits event information only when there is a significant event (e.g., receiving an input above a predetermined noise threshold and / or receiving an input for more than a predetermined duration).

[0107] In some embodiments, the event classifier 170 also includes a hit view determination module 172 and / or an active event identifier determination module 173.

[0108] When the touch-sensitive display 112 displays more than one view, the hit view determination module 172 provides software procedures for determining where within one or more views a sub-event has occurred. A view consists of controls and other elements that a user can see on the display.

[0109] Another aspect of the user interface associated with an application is a set of views, sometimes also referred to herein as application views or user interface windows, in which information is displayed and touch-based gestures occur. The application views (of the respective application) in which a touch is detected optionally correspond to a programmatic level within the programmatic or view hierarchy of the application. For example, the lowest level view in which a touch is detected is optionally referred to as a hit view, and the set of events that are recognized as correct input is optionally determined at least in part based on the hit view of the initial touch that started the touch-based gesture.

[0110] Hit view determination module 172 receives information related to sub-events of touch-based gestures. When an application has multiple views organized in a hierarchy, hit view determination module 172 identifies the hit view as the lowest view in the hierarchy where the sub-events should be processed. In most cases, the hit view is the lowest level view in which the initiating sub-event (e.g., the first sub-event in a sequence of sub-events that form an event or potential event) occurs. Once a hit view is identified by hit view determination module 172, the hit view typically receives all sub-events related to the same touch or input source for which it was identified as the hit view.

[0111] Active event recognizer determination module 173 determines which view or views within the view hierarchy should receive a particular sequence of sub-events. In some embodiments, active event recognizer determination module 173 determines that only the hit view should receive a particular sequence of sub-events. In other embodiments, active event recognizer determination module 173 determines that all views that include the physical location of the sub-event are actively participating views, and therefore determines that all actively participating views should receive a particular sequence of sub-events. In other embodiments, even if a touch sub-event is completely confined to an area associated with one particular view, higher views in the hierarchy will still remain as actively participating views.

[0112] Event distributor module 174 distributes event information to event recognizers (e.g., event recognizers 180). In embodiments including active event recognizer determination module 173, event distributor module 174 delivers the event information to the event recognizers determined by active event recognizer determination module 173. In some embodiments, event distributor module 174 stores the event information in an event queue, which is retrieved by corresponding event receivers 182.

[0113] In some embodiments, operating system 126 includes event classifier 170. Alternatively, application 136-1 includes event classifier 170. In yet another embodiment, event classifier 170 is a standalone module or is part of another module stored in memory 102, such as contact / motion module 130.

[0114] In some embodiments, application 136-1 includes multiple event handlers 190 and one or more application views 191, each of which includes instructions for handling touch events occurring in a corresponding view of the user interface of the application. Each application view 191 of application 136-1 includes one or more event recognizers 180. Typically, the corresponding application view 191 includes multiple event recognizers 180. In other embodiments, one or more event recognizers in event recognizers 180 are part of an independent module, which is a higher-level object such as a user interface toolkit (not shown) or application 136-1 from which methods and other properties are inherited. In some embodiments, the corresponding event handler 190 includes one or more of the following: data updater 176, object updater 177, GUI updater 178, and / or event data 179 received from event classifier 170. Event handler 190 optionally utilizes or calls data updater 176, object updater 177, or GUI updater 178 to update application internal state 192. Alternatively, one or more of the application views in application view 191 include one or more corresponding event handlers 190. In addition, in some embodiments, one or more of data updater 176, object updater 177, and GUI updater 178 are included in the corresponding application view 191.

[0115] The corresponding event identifier 180 receives event information (e.g., event data 179) from the event classifier 170 and identifies the event based on the event information. The event identifier 180 includes an event receiver 182 and an event comparator 184. In some embodiments, the event identifier 180 also includes metadata 183 and at least a subset of event delivery instructions 188 (which optionally include sub-event delivery instructions).

[0116] Event receiver 182 receives event information from event classifier 170. Event information includes information about sub-events such as touch or touch movement. Depending on the sub-event, the event information also includes additional information, such as the location of the sub-event. When the sub-event involves the movement of the touch, the event information optionally also includes the speed and direction of the sub-event. In some embodiments, the event includes the device rotating from one orientation to another orientation (for example, from a longitudinal orientation to a transverse orientation, or vice versa), and the event information includes corresponding information about the current orientation of the device (also referred to as the device posture).

[0117] Event comparator 184 compares event information with predefined event or sub-event definitions, and determines an event or sub-event based on the comparison, or determines or updates the state of an event or sub-event. In some embodiments, event comparator 184 includes event definition 186. Event definition 186 includes the definition of an event (e.g., a predefined sequence of sub-events), such as event 1 (187-1), event 2 (187-2), and others. In some embodiments, sub-events in event (187) include, for example, touch start, touch end, touch move, touch cancel, and multi-touch. In one example, the definition of event 1 (187-1) is a double-click on a displayed object. For example, a double-click includes a first touch (touch start) of a predetermined duration on a displayed object, a first lift-off (touch end) of a predetermined duration, a second touch (touch start) of a predetermined duration on a displayed object, and a second lift-off (touch end) of a predetermined duration. In another example, the definition of event 2 (187-2) is a drag on a displayed object. For example, dragging includes a touch (or contact) of a predetermined duration on a displayed object, movement of the touch on the touch-sensitive display 112, and lifting of the touch (touch end). In some embodiments, the event also includes information for one or more associated event handlers 190.

[0118] In some embodiments, event definition 187 includes definitions of events for corresponding user interface objects. In some embodiments, event comparator 184 performs a hit test to determine which user interface object is associated with a sub-event. For example, in an application view displaying three user interface objects on touch-sensitive display 112, when a touch is detected on touch-sensitive display 112, event comparator 184 performs a hit test to determine which of the three user interface objects is associated with the touch (sub-event). If each displayed object is associated with a corresponding event handler 190, the event comparator uses the result of the hit test to determine which event handler 190 should be activated. For example, event comparator 184 selects an event handler associated with a sub-event and the object that triggered the hit test.

[0119] In some embodiments, the definition of the corresponding event 187 also includes a delay action that delays the delivery of the event information until it has been determined that the sub-event sequence does or does not correspond to the event type of the event identifier.

[0120] When a corresponding event recognizer 180 determines that a sequence of sub-events does not match any event in event definition 186, the corresponding event recognizer 180 enters an event impossible, event failed, or event ended state, after which subsequent sub-events of the touch-based gesture are ignored. In this case, other event recognizers (if any) that remain active for the hit view continue to track and process sub-events of the ongoing touch-based gesture.

[0121] In some embodiments, the corresponding event recognizers 180 include metadata 183 with configurable properties, flags, and / or lists that indicate how the event delivery system should perform sub-event delivery to actively participating event recognizers. In some embodiments, metadata 183 includes configurable properties, flags, and / or lists that indicate how event recognizers interact or can interact with each other. In some embodiments, metadata 183 includes configurable properties, flags, and / or lists that indicate whether sub-events are delivered to different levels in a view or programmatic hierarchy.

[0122] In some embodiments, when one or more specific sub-events of an event are identified, the corresponding event recognizer 180 activates an event handler 190 associated with the event. In some embodiments, the corresponding event recognizer 180 delivers event information associated with the event to the event handler 190. Activating the event handler 190 is different from sending (and deferred sending) the sub-events to the corresponding hit view. In some embodiments, the event recognizer 180 throws a tag associated with the identified event, and the event handler 190 associated with the tag obtains the tag and executes a predefined process.

[0123] In some embodiments, the event delivery instructions 188 include a sub-event delivery instruction that delivers event information about a sub-event without activating an event handler. Instead, the sub-event delivery instruction delivers the event information to an event handler associated with a sub-event sequence or to an actively participating view. The event handler associated with the sub-event sequence or with an actively participating view receives the event information and executes a predetermined process.

[0124] In some embodiments, data updater 176 creates and updates data used in application 136-1. For example, data updater 176 updates phone numbers used in contact module 137 or stores video files used in video player module. In some embodiments, object updater 177 creates and updates objects used in application 136-1. For example, object updater 177 creates new user interface objects or updates the position of user interface objects. GUI updater 178 updates the GUI. For example, GUI updater 178 prepares display information and sends the display information to graphics module 132 for display on a touch-sensitive display.

[0125] In some embodiments, event handler 190 includes or has access to data updater 176, object updater 177, and GUI updater 178. In some embodiments, data updater 176, object updater 177, and GUI updater 178 are included in a single module of the corresponding application 136-1 or application view 191. In other embodiments, they are included in two or more software modules.

[0126] It should be understood that the above discussion of event processing for user touches on a touch-sensitive display also applies to other forms of user input that utilize input devices to operate the multifunction device 100, and not all user input is initiated on the touch screen. For example, mouse movement and mouse button presses, optionally in conjunction with single or multiple keyboard presses or hold; contact movement on a touch pad, such as tapping, dragging, scrolling, etc.; stylus input; movement of the device; verbal commands; detected eye movement; biometric input; and / or any combination thereof are optionally used as input corresponding to sub-events that define the event to be distinguished.

[0127] Figure 2 A portable or non-portable multifunction device 100 with a touch screen 112 according to some embodiments is shown. As described above, the multifunction device 100 is described as having various illustrated structures (such as a touch screen 112, a speaker 111, an accelerometer 168, a microphone 113, etc.); however, it should be understood that these structures optionally reside on separate devices. For example, display-related structures (e.g., a display, a speaker, etc.) and / or functions optionally reside on a separate display device, input-related structures (e.g., a touch-sensitive surface, a microphone, an accelerometer, etc.) and / or functions optionally reside on a separate input device, and the remaining structures and / or functions optionally reside on the multifunction device 100.

[0128] The touch screen 112 optionally displays one or more graphics within the user interface (UI) 200. In this embodiment and other embodiments described below, the user can select one or more of these graphics by, for example, making gestures on the graphics using one or more fingers 202 (not drawn to scale in the figure) or one or more styluses 203 (not drawn to scale in the figure). In some embodiments, when the user interrupts contact with one or more graphics, selection of one or more graphics will occur. In some embodiments, gestures optionally include one or more taps, one or more swipes (from left to right, from right to left, up and / or down) and / or rolling of fingers that have been in contact with the device 100 (from right to left, from left to right, up and / or down). In some specific implementations or in some cases, inadvertent contact with a graphic will not select the graphic. For example, when the gesture corresponding to the selection is a tap, a swipe gesture that sweeps over an application icon optionally does not select the corresponding application.

[0129] The device 100 optionally also includes one or more physical buttons, such as a "home" or menu button 204. As previously described, the menu button 204 is optionally used to navigate to any application 136 in a set of applications that are optionally executed on the device 100. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the menu button is implemented as a soft key in a GUI displayed on the touch screen 112.

[0130] In one embodiment, the device 100 includes a touch screen 112, a menu button 204, a push button 206 for turning the device on and off and locking the device, one or more volume adjustment buttons 208, a user identity module (SIM) card slot 210, a headset jack 212, and a docking / charging external port 124. The push button 206 is optionally used to turn the device on / off by pressing the button and keeping the button pressed for a predefined time interval; lock the device by pressing the button and releasing the button before the predefined time interval passes; and / or unlock the device or initiate an unlocking process. In an alternative embodiment, the device 100 also accepts voice input for activating or deactivating certain functions through the microphone 113. The device 100 also optionally includes one or more contact strength sensors 165 for detecting the strength of contact on the touch screen 112, and / or one or more tactile output generators 167 for generating tactile output for a user of the device 100.

[0131] Figure 3300 is a block diagram of an exemplary multifunctional device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface according to some embodiments. As described above, the device 300 does not have to include a display and a touch-sensitive surface, on the contrary, in some embodiments, it is optionally communicated with the display and the touch-sensitive surface on other devices. In addition, the device 300 does not have to be portable. In some embodiments, the device 300 is a laptop computer, a desktop computer, a tablet computer, a multimedia player device (such as a TV or a set-top box), a navigation device, an educational device (such as a children's learning toy), a game system or a control device (for example, a home or industrial controller). The device 300 typically includes one or more processing units (CPU) 310, one or more network or other communication interfaces 360, a memory 370 and one or more communication buses 320 for interconnecting these components. The communication bus 320 optionally includes a circuit (sometimes referred to as a chipset) that interconnects system components and controls the communication between system components. The device 300 includes an input / output (I / O) interface 330 with a display 340, which is typically a touch screen display. I / O interface 330 also optionally includes a keyboard and / or mouse (or other pointing device) 350 and a touch pad 355, a tactile output generator 357 for generating tactile output on device 300 (e.g., similar to the above referenced Figure 1A The tactile output generator 167 described above), a sensor 359 (e.g., an optical sensor, an acceleration sensor, a proximity sensor, a touch sensitive sensor, and / or a sensor similar to the above reference Figure 1A The memory 370 includes a high-speed random access memory, such as DRAM, SRAM, DDR RAM, or other random access solid-state memory devices; and optionally includes a non-volatile memory, such as one or more magnetic disk storage devices, optical disk storage devices, flash memory devices, or other non-volatile solid-state storage devices. The memory 370 optionally includes one or more storage devices located away from the CPU 310. In some embodiments, the memory 370 stores programs, modules, and data structures, or subsets thereof, similar to the portable or non-portable multifunction device 100 ( Figure 1A ) stored in the memory 102 of the portable or non-portable multifunction device 100. In addition, the memory 370 optionally stores additional programs, modules, and data structures that are not present in the memory 102 of the portable or non-portable multifunction device 100. For example, the memory 370 of the device 300 optionally stores a drawing module 380, a presentation module 382, a word processing module 384, a website creation module 386, a disk editing module 388, and / or a spreadsheet module 390, while the portable or non-portable multifunction device 100 ( Figure 1A )'s memory 102 optionally does not store these modules.

[0132] Figure 3 Each of the above-mentioned identified elements in is optionally stored in one or more of the previously mentioned memory devices. Each module in the above-mentioned identified modules corresponds to an instruction set for performing the above-mentioned functions. The above-mentioned identified modules or programs (that is, instruction sets) need not be implemented as independent software programs, processes or modules, so the various subsets of these modules are optionally combined or otherwise rearranged in various embodiments. In some embodiments, memory 370 optionally stores the subgroup of the above-mentioned modules and data structures. In addition, memory 370 optionally stores additional modules and data structures not described above.

[0133] Attention is now turned to an embodiment of a user interface that is optionally implemented on, for example, portable multifunction device 100.

[0134] Figure 4A An exemplary user interface of an application menu on portable multifunction device 100 according to some embodiments is shown. A similar user interface is optionally implemented on device 300. In some embodiments, user interface 400 includes the following elements, or a subset or superset thereof:

[0154] o an icon 442 labeled “Fitness Support” of the fitness support module 142;

[0155] o an icon 444 labeled "Notes" of the note module 153; and

[0156] o An icon 446 labeled “Settings” of a settings application or module that provides access to settings for the device 100 and its various applications 136.

[0157] It should be noted that Figure 4A The icon labels shown in are exemplary only. For example, icon 422 of video and music player module 152 is labeled "Music" or "Music Player". Other labels are optionally used for various application icons. In some embodiments, the label of a corresponding application icon includes the name of the application corresponding to the corresponding application icon. In some embodiments, the label of a particular application icon is different from the name of the application corresponding to the particular application icon.

[0158] Figure 4B A touch-sensitive surface 451 (eg, touch screen display 112) is shown having a touch-sensitive surface 451 (eg, Figure 3 tablet computer or touch pad 355) device (e.g., Figure 3Device 300 also optionally includes one or more contact intensity sensors (e.g., one or more of sensors 359) for detecting intensity of contacts on touch-sensitive surface 451 and / or one or more tactile output generators 357 for generating tactile output for a user of device 300.

[0159] Although some of the examples below are given with reference to input on a touch screen display 112 (where a touch-sensitive surface and a display are combined), in some embodiments, the device detects input on a touch-sensitive surface that is separate from the display, such as Figure 4B In some embodiments, the touch-sensitive surface (e.g., Figure 4B 451) has a main axis (e.g., Figure 4B 453) corresponding to the principal axis (for example, Figure 4B According to these embodiments, the device detects a position corresponding to a corresponding position on the display (e.g., Figure 4B 460 corresponds to 468 and 462 corresponds to 470) in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451 (e.g., Figure 4B Thus, when the touch-sensitive surface (e.g., Figure 4B 451) and a display of a multi-function device (e.g., Figure 4B When the user input detected by the device on the touch-sensitive surface (e.g., contacts 460 and 462 and their movement) is separated, the device is used to manipulate the user interface on the display. It should be understood that similar methods are optionally used for other user interfaces described herein.

[0160] In addition, although the following examples are primarily given with reference to finger inputs (e.g., finger contacts, single-finger tap gestures, finger swipe gestures), it should be understood that in some embodiments, one or more of these finger inputs are replaced by input from another input device (e.g., mouse-based input or stylus input). For example, a swipe gesture is optionally replaced by a mouse click (e.g., instead of contact), followed by movement of the cursor along the path of the swipe (e.g., instead of movement of the contact). As another example, a tap gesture is optionally replaced by a mouse click when the cursor is over the location of the tap gesture (e.g., instead of detecting contact, followed by ceasing to detect contact). Similarly, when multiple user inputs are detected simultaneously, it should be understood that multiple computer mice are optionally used simultaneously, or a mouse and finger contact are optionally used simultaneously.

[0161] In addition, although the following examples are primarily given with reference to finger inputs (e.g., finger contacts, single-finger tap gestures, finger swipe gestures), it should be understood that in some embodiments, one or more of these finger inputs are replaced by input from another input device (e.g., mouse-based input or stylus input).

[0162] As used herein, the term "focus selector" refers to an input element used to indicate the current portion of a user interface that a user is interacting with. In some implementations that include a cursor or other position marker, the cursor acts as a "focus selector" such that when the cursor is over a particular user interface element (e.g., a button, window, slider, or other user interface element), a focus selector is displayed on a touch-sensitive surface (e.g., Figure 3 Touchpad 355 or Figure 4B In the case where an input (e.g., a press input) is detected on the touch-sensitive surface 451 in the display, a particular user interface element is adjusted according to the detected input. In the case where a touch-sensitive surface 451 in the display is included that enables direct interaction with user interface elements on the touch-sensitive display (e.g., Figure 1AIn some implementations of a touch-sensitive display system 112 in a touchscreen, a contact detected on the touch screen acts as a "focus selector" such that when input (e.g., a press input by a contact) is detected at the location of a particular user interface element (e.g., a button, window, slider, or other user interface element) on the touchscreen display, the particular user interface element is adjusted in accordance with the detected input. In some implementations, the focus moves from one area of the user interface to another area of the user interface without corresponding movement of a cursor or movement of a contact on the touchscreen display (e.g., by using a tab key or arrow keys to move the focus from one button to another); in these implementations, the focus selector moves in accordance with the movement of the focus between different areas of the user interface. Regardless of the specific form the focus selector takes, the focus selector is typically a user interface element (or contact on the touchscreen display) that is controlled by the user to convey the user's intended interaction with the user interface (e.g., by indicating to the device the element of the user interface with which the user desires to interact). For example, when a press input is detected on a touch-sensitive surface (e.g., a touchpad or touchscreen), the position of a focus selector (e.g., a cursor, contact, or selection box) over a corresponding button will indicate that the user intends to activate the corresponding button (rather than other user interface elements shown on the device display).

[0163] As used in the specification and claims, the term "characteristic intensity" of a contact refers to a characteristic of a contact based on one or more intensities of the contact. In some embodiments, the characteristic intensity is based on multiple intensity samples. The characteristic intensity is optionally based on a predefined number of intensity samples or a set of intensity samples collected during a predetermined time period (e.g., 0.05 seconds, 0.1 seconds, 0.2 seconds, 0.5 seconds, 1 second, 2 seconds, 5 seconds, 10 seconds) relative to a predefined event (e.g., after contact is detected, before contact is detected to be lifted off, before or after contact starts to move, before contact ends, before or after contact intensity is detected to increase, and / or before or after contact intensity is detected to decrease). The characteristic intensity of a contact is optionally based on one or more of the following: the maximum value of the intensity of the contact, the mean value of the intensity of the contact, the average value of the intensity of the contact, the value at the top 10% of the intensity of the contact, the half-maximum value of the intensity of the contact, the 90% maximum value of the intensity of the contact, etc. In some embodiments, the duration of the contact is used when determining the characteristic intensity (e.g., when the characteristic intensity is the average value of the intensity of the contact over time). In some embodiments, the feature strength is compared to a set of one or more strength thresholds to determine whether the user has performed an operation. For example, the set of one or more strength thresholds optionally includes a first strength threshold and a second strength threshold. In this example, a contact whose feature strength does not exceed the first threshold results in a first operation, a contact whose feature strength exceeds the first strength threshold but does not exceed the second strength threshold results in a second operation, and a contact whose feature strength exceeds the second threshold results in a third operation. In some embodiments, a comparison between the feature strength and one or more thresholds is used to determine whether to perform one or more operations (e.g., whether to perform the corresponding operation or to abandon the corresponding operation) rather than to determine whether to perform the first operation or the second operation.

[0164] In some embodiments described herein, one or more operations are performed in response to detecting a gesture that includes a corresponding press input or in response to detecting a corresponding press input performed using a corresponding contact (or multiple contacts), wherein the corresponding press input is detected at least in part based on detecting that the strength of the contact (or multiple contacts) increases to above a press input strength threshold. In some embodiments, the corresponding operation is performed in response to detecting that the strength of the corresponding contact increases to above the press input strength threshold (e.g., a "down stroke" of the corresponding press input). In some embodiments, the press input includes an increase in the strength of the corresponding contact to above the press input strength threshold and the strength of the contact subsequently decreases to below the press input strength threshold, and the corresponding operation is performed in response to detecting that the strength of the corresponding contact subsequently decreases to below the press input threshold (e.g., an "up stroke" of the corresponding press input).

[0165] In some embodiments, the device employs intensity hysteresis to avoid unexpected inputs sometimes referred to as "jitter," where the device defines or selects a hysteresis intensity threshold that has a predefined relationship to a press input intensity threshold (e.g., the hysteresis intensity threshold is X intensity units lower than the press input intensity threshold, or the hysteresis intensity threshold is 75%, 90%, or some reasonable proportion of the press input intensity threshold). Thus, in some embodiments, a press input includes an increase in the intensity of the corresponding contact to above the press input intensity threshold and a subsequent decrease in the intensity of the contact to below the hysteresis intensity threshold corresponding to the press input intensity threshold, and a corresponding operation is performed in response to detecting that the intensity of the corresponding contact subsequently decreases to below the hysteresis intensity threshold (e.g., an "upward stroke" of the corresponding press input). Similarly, in some embodiments, a press input is detected only when the device detects that the contact intensity increases from an intensity equal to or below the hysteresis intensity threshold to an intensity equal to or above the press input intensity threshold and, optionally, that the contact intensity subsequently decreases to an intensity equal to or below the hysteresis intensity, and a corresponding operation is performed in response to detecting the press input (e.g., an increase in contact intensity or a decrease in contact intensity, depending on the circumstances).

[0166] For ease of explanation, optionally, a description of an operation performed in response to a press input associated with a press input intensity threshold or in response to a gesture including a press input is triggered in response to detecting any of the following: contact intensity increasing to above the press input intensity threshold, contact intensity increasing from an intensity below a hysteresis intensity threshold to an intensity above the press input intensity threshold, contact intensity decreasing to below the press input intensity threshold, and / or contact intensity decreasing to below a hysteresis intensity threshold corresponding to the press input intensity threshold. Additionally, in examples where an operation is described as being performed in response to detecting that the intensity of the contact decreases below the press input intensity threshold, the operation is optionally performed in response to detecting that the intensity of the contact decreases below a hysteresis intensity threshold that corresponds to and is less than the press input intensity threshold.

[0170] Figure 5C An exemplary personal electronic device 500 is depicted. In some embodiments, the device 500 may include a reference Figure 1A , Figure 1B and Figure 3 Some or all of the components described. Device 500 has a bus 512 that operatively couples an I / O portion 514 to one or more computer processors 516 and a memory 518. I / O portion 514 may be connected to a display 504, which may have a touch-sensitive component 522 and optionally a strength sensor 524 (e.g., a contact strength sensor). In addition, I / O portion 514 may be connected to a communication unit 530 for receiving application and operating system data using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, near field communication (NFC), cellular and / or other wireless communication technologies. Device 500 may include input mechanisms 506 and / or 508. For example, input mechanism 506 is optionally a rotatable input device or a depressible input device and a rotatable input device. In some examples, input mechanism 508 is optionally a button.

[0171] In some examples, input mechanism 508 is optionally a microphone. Personal electronic device 500 optionally includes various sensors, such as GPS sensor 532, accelerometer 534, orientation sensor 540 (e.g., compass), gyroscope 536, motion sensor 538, and / or combinations thereof, all of which are operably connected to I / O portion 514.

[0172] The memory 518 of the personal electronic device 500 may include one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media for storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more computer processors 516, may cause the computer processors to perform the techniques described below, including reference to Figure 7The process described. Computer-readable storage media can be any medium that can tangibly contain or store computer-executable instructions for use by or in conjunction with instruction execution systems, devices, and apparatuses. In some examples, the storage medium is a transient computer-readable storage medium. In some examples, the storage medium is a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. Non-transitory computer-readable storage media may include, but are not limited to, magnetic storage devices, optical storage devices, and / or semiconductor storage devices. Examples of such storage devices include magnetic disks, optical disks based on CD, DVD, or Blu-ray technology, and persistent solid-state memories such as flash memory, solid-state drives, and the like. Personal electronic device 500 is not limited to Figure 5C components and configurations, but may include other components or additional components in a variety of configurations.

[0173] In some embodiments, the electronic device 500 includes one or more tactile output generators, wherein the one or more tactile output generators generate different types of tactile output sequences. In some embodiments, the tactile output sequence of a specific type generated by the one or more tactile output generators of the device corresponds to a specific tactile output mode. For example, the tactile output mode specifies the characteristics of the tactile output, such as the amplitude of the tactile output, the shape of the motion waveform of the tactile output, the frequency of the tactile output and / or the duration of the tactile output. When a device (e.g., one or more tactile output generators that generate tactile output via a movable mass) generates a tactile output with different tactile output modes, the tactile output can produce different touches in a user holding or touching the device. Although the user's sense organs are based on the user's perception of the tactile output, most users will be able to recognize the changes in the waveform, frequency and amplitude of the tactile output generated by the device.

[0174] In addition, in the method described herein where one or more steps depend on one or more conditions being met, it should be understood that the method can be repeated in multiple repetitions so that in the process of repetition, all conditions for determining the steps in the method have been met in different repetitions of the method. For example, if the method needs to perform the first step (if the condition is met), and perform the second step (if the condition is not met), then the ordinary technician will know that the steps stated are repeated until both the condition is met and the condition is not met (in no particular order). Therefore, the method described as having one or more steps depending on one or more conditions being met can be rewritten as a method of repeating until each condition described in the method is met. However, this does not require the system or computer-readable medium to declare that the system or computer-readable medium contains instructions for performing a contingent operation based on the satisfaction of the corresponding one or more conditions, and is therefore able to determine whether the possible situation has been met without explicitly repeating the steps of the method until all conditions for determining the steps in the method have been met. It will also be understood by ordinary technicians in the art that, similar to the method with the contingent step, the system or computer-readable storage medium can repeat the steps of the method as many times as needed to ensure that all the contingent steps have been performed.

[0175] As used herein, the term "indicative representation" refers to an optional feature of the apparatus 100, 300, and / or 500 ( Figure 1A , Figure 3 and FIG. 5A to FIG. 5B ) is a user-interactive graphical user interface object displayed on a display screen of a computer. For example, an image (e.g., an icon), a button, and text (e.g., a hyperlink) optionally each constitute an affordance.

[0176] As used herein, an "installed application" refers to a software application that has been downloaded to an electronic device (e.g., device 100, 300, and / or 500) and is ready to be launched (e.g., become open) on the device. In some embodiments, a downloaded application becomes an installed application using an installer that extracts program portions from a downloaded software package and integrates the extracted portions with the operating system of a computer system.

[0177] As used herein, the term "open application" or "executing application" refers to a software application that has maintained state information (e.g., as part of device / global internal state 157 and / or application internal state 192). An open or executing application is optionally any of the following types of applications:

[0178] the active application currently displayed on the display of the device on which the application is being used;

[0179] Background applications (or background processes) that are not currently displayed but for which one or more processes are being processed by one or more processors; and

[0180] Not running but has data stored in memory (volatile and non-volatile respectively)

[0181] A suspended or dormant application is retrieved and can be used to retrieve status information about the application's execution.

[0182] As used herein, the term "closed application" refers to a software application that does not have retained state information (e.g., the state information of a closed application is not stored in the memory of a device). Thus, closing an application includes stopping and / or removing the application's application process and removing the application's state information from the memory of a device. Generally speaking, while in a first application, opening a second application does not close the first application. When the second application is displayed and the first application stops being displayed, the first application becomes a background application.

[0183] One or more of the embodiments disclosed herein may optionally include one or more of the features disclosed in the following patent applications: “User Interfaces For Interacting with Channels that Provide Content that Plays in a Media Browsing Application” (Agent Docket No. 106843171600 (P42089USP1), filed on March 24, 2019), “User Interfaces For a Media Browsing Application” (Agent Docket No. 106843171700 (P42090USP1), filed on March 24, 2019), and “User Interface Specific to Respective Content Items” (Agent Docket No. 106843171900 (P42092USP1), filed on March 24, 2019), each of which is hereby incorporated by reference.

[0185] User interface and associated processes

[0186] Display media content recommendations for a group of users

[0187] Users interact with electronic devices in a variety of different ways, including using electronic devices to browse user interfaces, such as media browsing user interfaces. The embodiments described below provide ways for electronic devices to display media content items and media content recommendations based on specified user accounts in media browsing user interfaces. Providing an effective way to specify a specific user account for inclusion in content recommendations provides an effective way for users to view media content recommendations based on specified user accounts, thereby reducing the power usage of electronic devices and extending the battery life of battery-powered devices. It should be understood that people use devices. When a person uses a device, this person is optionally referred to as a user of the device.

[0188] Figures 6A to 6FFF The following figure shows an exemplary manner in which an electronic device according to some embodiments of the present disclosure presents recommended content (e.g., movies, television programs, etc.) for a group of users. The embodiments in these figures are used to illustrate the process described below, including reference Figure 7 Although Figures 6A to 6FFF An electronic device is shown capable of executing the following reference Figure 7 Various exemplary embodiments of the process are provided, but it should be understood that these examples are not intended to be limiting and that the electronic device can be used with reference to Figures 6A to 6FFF The following reference is not explicitly described in the following manner Figure 7 One or more of the processes described.

[0189] Fig. 6A An exemplary display 514 is shown. Display 514 optionally displays one or more user interfaces including various content. Fig. 6A In the example shown, the display 514 presents a media browsing user interface 632 associated with Alice's user account (e.g., a user account configured on the device 500 and currently active / logged in). In the first corresponding row of the media user interface 632, the media user interface 632 includes: a representation 602 of movie A, which can be selected to cause the device 500 to start playing movie A; a representation 604 of movie B, which can be selected to cause the device 500 to start playing movie B; a representation 606 of TV show A, which can be selected to cause the device 500 to start playing TV show A; and a representation 608 of movie C, which can be selected to cause the device 500 to start playing movie C. Representations 602-608 correspond to currently popular media content (indicated by labels 626 displayed above the first corresponding row). In some embodiments, the media items corresponding to representations 602-608 are popular because a large number of users have recently viewed the media content corresponding to representations 602 to 608, such as in the past hour, day, week, month, etc.

[0190] In a second corresponding row of media user interface 632, media user interface 632 also includes: a representation 610 of movie D, which can be selected to cause device 500 to begin playing movie D; a representation 612 of television program B, which can be selected to cause device 500 to begin playing television program B; a representation 614 of television program C, which can be selected to cause device 500 to begin playing television program C; and a representation 616 of movie E, which can be selected to cause device 500 to begin playing movie E. Representations 610-616 correspond to media content that has been recommended based on a set of user accounts that have been selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by label 628 above the second corresponding row), as will be described in more detail later.

[0191] In some embodiments, the media user interface 632 displays user accounts that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. Fig. 6A As shown, media user interface 632 includes selectable user interface element 636, which indicates user accounts that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. Specifically, user interface 636 includes representation 638 of Alice's user account, which indicates that Alice's user account is currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations; includes representation 640 of Bob's user account, which indicates that Bob's user account is currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations; includes representation 642 of Chloe's user account, which indicates that Chloe's user account is currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations; and includes representation 644 of Dan's user account, which indicates that Dan's user account is currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations.

[0192] In some embodiments, the user account represented in selectable user interface element 636 corresponds to a user account configured on the electronic device. Fig. 6A , selectable user interface element 636 includes representations 638-644 because user accounts corresponding to representations 638-644 are configured on electronic device 500 (e.g., user accounts corresponding to users Alice, Bob, Chloe, and Dan are configured on electronic device 500). In some embodiments, if the corresponding user account has been selected or designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, the representation of the user account included in selectable user interface element 636 is displayed with a first visual appearance, and if the corresponding user account has not been selected or designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, the representation of the user account included in the selectable user interface element is displayed with a second visual appearance. Fig. 6AIn the example of , device 500a displays representations 638-644 of corresponding user accounts in a first visual appearance (e.g., displayed with a white background) because the user accounts corresponding to representations 638-644 have not been selected for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., these content recommendations are based on a set of selected or designated user accounts). In some embodiments, none of the user accounts corresponding to representations 638-644 have been selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations because device 500 is displaying content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts for the first time.

[0193] In some embodiments, when no user accounts have been selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the media user interface 632 includes general content recommendations (e.g., including general content recommendations that are not specific to any particular set of user accounts). Fig. 6A Because none of the user accounts corresponding to representations 638-644 have been selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts (indicated by device 500 displaying representations 638-644 with a white background), representations 610-616 displayed in a second corresponding row in media user interface 632 are general content recommendations (e.g., not specific to any particular group of user accounts and / or based on general aggregated data for many / all user accounts subscribing to a particular content delivery service).

[0194] In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface 632 includes an indication summarizing the content types recommended for a selected or specified user account. Fig. 6A , the media user interface includes an indication 634 indicating that the generally recommended content relates to the categories science fiction, 80's, and adventure.

[0195] In some embodiments, the media user interface 632 includes content recommendations that are not based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., includes content recommendations based only on user accounts currently active on the device 500a). Fig. 6A , in a third corresponding row of media user interface 632, media user interface 632 includes: a representation 618 of movie F, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie F; a representation 620 of movie G, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie G; a representation 622 of movie H, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie H; and a representation 624 of movie I, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie I. Representations 618-624 correspond to media items recommended to Alice (e.g., an active user account on device 500) because Alice recently watched "Movie A".

[0196] In some embodiments, user interface element 636 may be selected to edit the user accounts currently selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts (e.g., to add user accounts to include in content recommendations and / or to remove user accounts from being included in content recommendations). Fig. 6A , while device 500 is displaying representation 610 of movie D having focus (indicated by a dashed box at representation 610), device 500 detects a request to move the focus (indicated by touch contact 601a pressing on touch-sensitive surface 451). Figure 6B , device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601a has been swiped in a right direction (indicated by touch contact 601a moving to the right on touch-sensitive surface 451). In response to receiving this indication, device 500 moves focus from representation 610 of movie D to representation 616 of movie E (indicated by a dashed box now displayed at representation 616). Figure 6C , after device 500 moves focus to representation 616 of movie E, device 500 receives another indication that touch contact 601a has been swiped in an upward direction (indicated by the new position of touch contact 601a on touch-sensitive surface 451). In response to device 500 receiving the indication that touch contact 601a has been swiped in an upward direction, device 500 moves focus from representation 616 of movie E to selectable user interface element 636 (selectable user interface element 636 is updated by device 500 to include a text “Edit” indication, and a dashed box is displayed by device 500 at selectable user interface element 636). Fig.6D , while device 500 is displaying selectable user interface element 636 with focus, device 500 receives an indication (indicated by dashed touch contact 601a on touch-sensitive surface 451) that touch contact 601a is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451. In response to receiving the indication, device 500 continues to display selectable user interface element 636 with focus and stops moving the focus in accordance with the movement of touch contact 601a.

[0197] exist Fig. 6E , device 500 detects a request to edit a user account that is currently selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601e tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable user interface element 636 is being displayed as having focus). In some embodiments, before one or more user accounts can be designated or selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the user account that is the currently active account on device 500 must have previously opted in to be included in such content recommendations. For example, in Fig. 6F In response to device 500 receiving Fig. 6EUpon selection of selectable user interface element 636 in , device 500 displays a consent user interface 646 associated with Alice's user account because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that the user account associated with Alice (e.g., the user account currently active at device 500) has not opted in to be included in content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts.

[0198] The consent user interface 646 includes: a selectable option 648, which, when selected, causes Alice's user account to opt in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts; a selectable option 650, which, when selected, causes Alice's user account to opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., be excluded from any content recommendations); and a selectable option 652, which, when selected, causes Alice's user account to temporarily opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., opt out until the selectable user interface element 636 is selected again). The consent user interface 646 also includes a representation 638 of Alice's user account, which indicates that when the device 500a detects a selection of one of the selectable options 648-652, one or more settings of Alice's user account will be updated / modified.

[0199] exist Figure 6G , while device 500 is displaying consent user interface 646, device 500 receives a request to have Alice's user account opt out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts (indicated by touch contact 601g tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 650 is being displayed as having focus). In some embodiments, as will be described in more detail later, when a user account opts out of such content recommendations, the user account cannot be designated or selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts.

[0200] In some embodiments, if the user account that opts out corresponds to a user account that is currently active at device 500 (e.g., device 500 is displaying user interface / content based on that user account), device 500a stops displaying content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. Figure 6H In response to device 500 receiving a request to cause Alice's user account to opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 causes Alice's user account to opt out of such content recommendations and stops displaying content recommendations based on the selected or specified set of user accounts in media user interface 632 (e.g., stops displaying content recommendations related to the selected or specified set of user accounts). Fig. 6EIn addition, in response to Alice's user account opting out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 also ceases to display user interface elements / controls displayed in association with representations 610-616, including label 628, indication 634, and user interface element 636, as previously described in Fig. 6E as shown in .

[0201] In addition, Figure 6H , because device 500 causes Alice's user account to be opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include additional content recommendations that are not based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., content recommendations that are not based on any user account other than Alice's user account). Specifically, device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include: representation 675 of movie J, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie J; representation 673 of movie K, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie K; representation 671 of movie L, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie L; and representation 669 of movie M, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie M. Representations 669-675 correspond to media items recommended to Alice because Alice (e.g., the user account currently active at device 500) has watched "Movie B".

[0202] As previously mentioned, in some embodiments, the user account currently active at device 500 must opt-in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts before other user accounts can be selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations. Fig.6I , device 500 is displaying the Fig. 6F The consent user interface 646 shown in FIG. Figure 6J , while device 500 is displaying consent user interface 646 and while Alice's user account is currently opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 receives a request to opt Alice's user account into content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (indicated by touch contact 601j tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable object 648 is being displayed as having focus). In response to device 500 receiving the request at Figure 6J The input that enables Alice's user account to opt in is Figure 6K6, device 500 causes Alice's user account to opt-in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, and causes device 500 to display user interface 654. User interface 654 includes representations of user accounts that may be selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations, including representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 640 of Bob's user account, representation 642 of Chloe's user account, and representation 644 of Dan's user account. Figure 6K As shown, the device 500 is displaying the representation 638 of Alice's user account as having a check mark, thereby indicating that Alice's user account is currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts. The device 500 does not display the representations 640-644 of the corresponding user accounts as having check marks, thereby indicating that those corresponding user accounts are not currently selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts.

[0203] In some embodiments, the representation of the user account displayed in the user interface 654 can be selected to toggle the status of the corresponding user account included in the content recommendation (e.g., to toggle the user account from being included in the content recommendation to being excluded from the content recommendation). Figure 6L , device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 6011 has been pressed on touch-sensitive surface 451 while device 500 is displaying user interface 654 and while device 500 is currently displaying representation 638 that has focus. Figure 6M , after device 500 receives an indication of touch pressure on touch contact 6011, device 500 receives a request to move focus from representation 638 of Alice's user account to representation 642 of Chloe's user account (indicated by a right swipe of touch contact 6011 on touch-sensitive surface 451). In response to device 500 receiving a request to move focus in user interface 654, device 500 moves focus from the representation of Alice's user account 638 to representation 642 of Chloe's user account (indicated by a dashed circle displayed at representation 642). Figure 6N , while device 500 is displaying representation 642 with focus, device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 6011 is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451. In response to receiving the indication, device 500 continues to display focus at representation 642 of Choe's user account, and device 500 also stops moving focus in user interface 654 based on the movement of touch contact 6011. Fig.6O, while the device 500 is displaying a representation 642 of Chloe's user account and while Chloe's user account is not currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations, the device 500 detects a request to select Chloe's user account for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by a tap of touch contact 601o on touch-sensitive surface 451 while representation 642 of Choe's user account is being displayed as having focus).

[0204] As previously mentioned, in some embodiments, before a corresponding user account can be selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the corresponding user account must have previously opted in to such content recommendations. Figure 6P Because Chloe's user account has not previously opted in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 responds to the request in Fig.6O , and displays consent user interface 658 based on input detected in . Consent user interface 658 prompts Chloe (e.g., a user associated with Chloe's user account) to opt in or opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts. Specifically, control user interface 658 includes: selectable option 660, which, when selected, causes Chloe's user account to opt in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts; selectable option 662, which, when selected, causes Chloe's user account to opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., be excluded from any content recommendations); and selectable option 664, which, when selected, causes Chloe's user account to temporarily opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., opt out until selectable user interface element 636 is selected again). Consent user interface 658 also includes a representation 642 of Chloe's user account indicating that one or more settings of Chloe's user account will be updated / modified when device 500 detects a selection of one of selectable options 660-664. In some embodiments, Chloe (e.g., a user associated with Chloe's user account) is able to provide input to device 500 because an electronic device associated with Chloe is in communication with device 500 and / or because Chloe is in the same physical location as remote control 510.

[0205] exist Figure 6Q, while device 500 is displaying consent user interface 658 for Chloe's user account, device 500 receives a request to have Chloe's user account opt-in for content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (indicated by touch contact 601q tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable object 660 is being displayed as having focus). In response to device 500 receiving the request to have Chloe's user account opt-in for content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, Figure 6R , device 500 causes Chloe's user account to opt in to such content recommendations, and also selects Chloe's user account for inclusion in the content recommendations (representation 642 of Chloe's user account is displayed by device 500 as having a check mark indication). Figure 6S , after designating Chloe's user account for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts, device 500 receives a request to change focus in user interface 654 (indicated by touch contact 601s touching touch-sensitive surface 451). Figure 6T , after detecting a touch pressure of touch contact 601s on touch-sensitive surface 451, device 500 detects a request to move focus from representation 642 of Chloe's user account to selectable object 656 (indicated by a swipe in a downward direction of touch contact 601p). In response, device 500 moves focus from representation 642 of Chloe's user account to selectable object 656. Figure 6U , while device 500 is displaying selectable option 656 with focus, device 500 detects that touch contact 601p is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451 (indicated by dashed touch contact 601p). In response to detecting that touch contact 601p has been lifted off touch-sensitive surface 451, device 500 continues to display user interface element 656 with focus, and device 500 stops moving the focus in accordance with the movement of touch contact 601p.

[0206] exist Figure 6V , device 500 detects a selection of selectable option 656 (indicated by touch contact 601v tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 656 is being displayed as having focus) while Alice's user account and Chloe's user account are currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts. Figure 6W In response to device 500 detecting the Figure 6V , device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include characteristics based on Alice's user account and Chloe's user account (e.g., based on user accounts designated for inclusion in content recommendations, such as Figure 6V, rather than content recommendations based on user accounts that are not designated for inclusion in content recommendations).

[0207] Specifically, the device 500 updates the media user interface 632 to include in the second corresponding row of the media user interface 632: a representation 666 of movie N, which, when selected, causes the device 500 to play movie N; a representation 668 of movie O, which, when selected, causes the device 500 to play movie O; a representation 670 of movie P, which, when selected, causes the device 500 to play movie P; and a representation 672 of television program E, which, when selected, causes the device 500 to play television program E. In some embodiments, media items corresponding to representations 666-672 are selected for display in media user interface 632 because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that the media items corresponding to those representations have a high probability (e.g., 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, etc.) of being liked by users Alice and Chloe (e.g., users corresponding to Alice's user account and Chloe's user account, respectively) based on the viewing behavior of Alice's user account and Chloe's user account (e.g., user accounts designated for inclusion in content recommendations).

[0208] In addition, because Alice's user account and Chloe's user account have been designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, device 500 updates the visual appearance of representation 638 of Alice's user account and representation 642 of Chloe's user account to indicate that Alice's user account and Chloe's user account are currently designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. Device 500 also updates indication 634 to include the text "Gritty, Modern", thereby indicating that the content recommended based on Alice's user account and Chloe's user account relates to the categories Gritty and Modern.

[0209] In some embodiments, additional user accounts may be designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts. Figure 6X , while device 500 is displaying content recommendations based on Alice's user account and Chloe's user account (e.g., user accounts currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations), device 500 receives a request to change focus in media browsing user interface 632 (indicated by touch contact 601 x touching touch-sensitive surface 451). Figure 6Y , after device 500 detects the pressure of touch contact 601x on touch-sensitive surface 451, device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601x has been swiped to the right (by Figure 6YIn response to receiving an indication that touch contact 601x has been swiped to the right, device 500 moves focus from representation 666 of movie N to representation 672 of television show E.

[0210] exist Figure 6Z , after device 500 moves focus to representation 672 of television program E, device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601x has been swiped in an upward direction (indicated by Figure 6Z In response to the device receiving the indication that touch contact 601x is swiped in an upward direction, device 500 moves focus from representation 672 of television program E to user interface element 636 (selectable user interface element 636 is updated by device 500 to include a text “Edit” indication and indicated by a dashed box displayed at selectable user interface 632). Figure 6AA , while device 500 is displaying selectable user interface element 636 with focus, device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601x is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451 (indicated by dashed touch contact 601x). In response to receiving the indication that touch contact 601x is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451, device 500 continues to display selectable user interface element 636 with focus and stops moving the focus in accordance with the movement of touch contact 601x. Figure 6BB , while device 500 is displaying a selectable user interface element 636 having focus, device 500 detects a selection of selectable user interface element 636 (indicated by a tap of touch contact 601bb on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable user interface 636 is displayed as having focus).

[0211] In response to device 500 receiving Figure 6BB The selection of selectable user interface element 636 in Figure 6CC , device 500 displays a user interface 654 for editing user accounts currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations. User interface 654 includes representations of user accounts that may be designated for inclusion in content recommendations, including representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 640 of Bob's user account, representation 642 of Chloe's user account, and representation 644 of Dan's user account. Figure 6CCAs shown, the device 500 is displaying the representation 638 of Alice's user account and the representation 642 of Chloe's user account as having check marks, thereby indicating that Alice's user account and Chloe's user account are currently selected for inclusion in the content recommendation based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. In contrast, the representation 640 of Bob's user account and the representation 644 of Dan's user account are not displayed as having check marks, thereby indicating that both Bob's user account and Dan's user account are not currently selected for inclusion in the content recommendation based on a set of selected or specified user accounts.

[0212] exist Figure 6DD , while device 500 is displaying representation 644 of Dan's user account with focus and while Dan's user account is not currently selected for inclusion in content recommendations, device 500 detects a request to designate Dan's user account for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601dd tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while representation 644 of Dan's user account is being displayed as having focus). As previously mentioned, in some embodiments, before a corresponding user account can be selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations, the corresponding user account must opt-in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts. For example, in Figure 6EE , in response to device 500 detecting a selection of representation 644 of Dan's user account and because Dan's user account is not currently opted in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of users, device 500 displays consent user interface 674. Consent user interface 674 prompts Dan (e.g., a user associated with Dan's user account) to opt in or opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts. Specifically, control user interface 674 includes: selectable option 676, which, when selected, causes Dan's user account to opt in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts; selectable option 678, which, when selected, causes Dan's user account to opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., be excluded from any content recommendations); and selectable option 680, which, when selected, causes Dan's user account to temporarily opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (e.g., opt out until Figure 6BBThe consent user interface 674 also includes a representation 644 of Dan's user account indicating that when the device 500 detects a selection of one of the selectable options 676-680, one or more settings of Dan's user account will be updated / modified. In some embodiments, Dan (e.g., a user associated with Dan's user account) is able to provide input to the device 500 because an electronic device associated with Dan is in communication with the device 500 and / or because Dan is at the same physical location as the remote control 510.

[0213] exist Figure 6FF , while device 500 is displaying consent user interface 674 for Dan's user account and while device 500 is displaying selectable option 676 with focus, device 500 receives a request to have Dan's user account opt-in for content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (indicated by touch contact 601ff tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable object 676 is being displayed as having focus). In response to device 500 receiving the request to have Dan's user account opt-in for content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, Figure 6GG , device 500 causes Dan's user account to opt in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, and also selects Dan's user account for inclusion in the content recommendations (representation 644 of Dan's user account is displayed by device 500 as indicated by a check mark). Figure 6HH , device 500 detects a selection of selectable option 656 (indicated by touch contact 601hh tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 656 is being displayed as having focus) while Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account are currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts. Fig. 6II In response to device 500 detecting a request for Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account when Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account are currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations, Figure 6HH , device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include features based on Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account (e.g., based on the user accounts designated for inclusion, such as Figure 6HHSpecifically, device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include in the second corresponding row of media user interface 632: representation 682 of movie Q, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie Q; representation 684 of movie R, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie R; representation 686 of movie S, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie S; and representation 688 of television program F, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play television program F. In some embodiments, media items corresponding to representations 682-688 are selected for display in media user interface 632 because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that media items corresponding to those representations 682-688 have a high probability (e.g., 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, etc.) of being liked by users Alice, Chloe, and Dan (e.g., users corresponding to Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account, respectively) based on the viewing behavior of Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account (e.g., user accounts designated for inclusion in content recommendations).

[0214] In addition, because Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account are currently designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, device 500 updates the visual appearance of representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 642 of Chloe's user account, and representation 644 of Dan's user account to indicate that Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account are currently selected for inclusion in the content recommendation. Device 500 also updates indication 634 to include the text "Comedy, Suspense, Actor A" to indicate that the content recommended based on Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account involves actor A and the categories comedy and suspense.

[0215] In some embodiments, different types of user accounts may be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. Figure 6JJ , Alice's user account, which corresponds to the "regular" user account, Chloe's user account, which also corresponds to the "regular" user account, and Dan's user account, which corresponds to the "child" user account, are currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by device 500a displaying representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 642 of Chloe's user account, and representation 644 of Dan's user account in gray fill).

[0216] In some embodiments, a "regular" user account is a user account type that has access rights to any type of media content accessible by device 500, such as media content rated G (general), PG (parental guidance suggested), PG-13 (parental caution), R (restricted), etc. Conversely, a "child" user account is optionally a user account type that has access rights to media content of up to a certain content / maturity level (e.g., media content items rated up to and including PG-13).

[0217] In some embodiments, only media items that satisfy the content rating restrictions specified for all user accounts included are selected for display in media user interface 632. For example, in Fig. 6II and Figure 6JJ The user account specified for inclusion in is the same user account, but in Figure 6JJ In the example of , one of the user accounts designated for inclusion (Dan's user account) corresponds to a "child" user account that has limited access to media above a corresponding content / maturity rating (e.g., PG, PG-13, R, etc.). Figure 6JJ Dan's user account corresponds to the "child" user account, which is the same as Fig. 6II As shown, device 500 displays different media content recommendations than when Dan's user account corresponds to a regular user account. Specifically, when Dan's user account corresponds to a "child" user account, the media user interface includes: a representation 682 of movie Q, which can be selected to cause device 500a to play movie Q; a representation 684 of movie R, which can be selected to cause device 500a to play movie R; a representation 686 of movie S, which can be selected to cause device 500a to play movie S; and a representation 668-1 of television program F*, which can be selected to cause device 500a to play television program F*. In contrast to the above situation, when Dan's user account does not correspond to a "child" user account, as shown Fig. 6II As shown, the media user interface 632 includes: a representation 682 of movie Q, which can be selected to cause the device 500a to play movie Q; a representation 684 of movie R, which can be selected to cause the device 500a to play movie R; a representation 686 of movie S, which can be selected to cause the device 500a to play movie S; and a representation 668 of TV program F, which can be selected to cause the device 500a to play TV program F.

[0218] In other words, when Dan's user account corresponds to a "Kids" user account (and Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account are designated for inclusion in content recommendations), the media user interface 632 still includes representations of movies QS because the content ratings corresponding to those movies are accessible across the content restrictions defined by the "Kids" user account, but does not include representations corresponding to television shows F because television shows F are not accessible through Dan's user account due to the content restrictions of the "Kids" user account (e.g., television shows F exceed the maximum maturity / content rating).

[0219] In some embodiments, a user account that currently opts in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified group of user accounts may opt out of such content recommendations. Figure 6KK , device 500 is displaying a settings user interface 690 for Dan's user account. In some embodiments, when device 500 receives a series of inputs for changing the user account currently active at device 500 from Alice's user account to Dan's user account and for displaying account settings for Dan's user account, electronic device 500 changes from displaying the settings user interface 690 to displaying the settings user interface 690 for Dan's user account. Figure 6JJ , the media browsing user interface 632 associated with Alice's user account shown in FIG. 6 is transformed to display a settings user interface 690 associated with Dan's user account. Settings user interface 690 indicates the current settings of Dan's user account, including an indication 692 of the email address currently associated with Dan's user account (Dan.Appleseed@email_provider.com), an indication 693 of the username of Dan's user account (Dan_Appleseed), an indication 694 that Dan's user account is currently opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected / specified user accounts (indicated by selectable option 694 displayed in a toggled on state), and an indication that purchases made using Dan's user account require a password (indicated by selectable option 696 displayed in a toggled on state).

[0220] exist Figure 6KK , while electronic device 500 is displaying settings user interface 690 and while Dan's user account is currently opted-in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (indicated by selectable option 694 displayed in a toggled-on state), device 500 receives a request to have Dan's user account opt-out of such content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601kk tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 694 is being displayed as having focus). Figure 6LL, in response to device 500 receiving a request to opt-out of Dan's user account from content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts, device 500 opts Dan's user account out of such content recommendations (represented by selectable option 694 displayed in a toggled off state).

[0221] In some embodiments, after a user account opts out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts, the user account can no longer be selected or designated for inclusion in such content recommendations. Figure 6MM in Figure 6LL After device 500 causes Dan's user account to opt out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, device 500 receives a series of inputs for switching the user account currently active at device 500 from Dan's user account to Alice's user account and for displaying the media browsing user interface 632 as previously shown. In response to receiving the series of inputs, device 500 displays a user account currently active at device 500 from Dan's user account to Alice's user account, and displays a media user interface 632 associated with Alice's user account.

[0222] like Figure 6MM As shown, device 500 does not display representation 644 of Dan's user account 644 (eg, Fig. 6II ), because Dan's user account can no longer be designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts. Additionally, because before Dan's user account became opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts (as shown in Fig. 6II ), Dan's user account was previously designated for inclusion in the content recommendations, so device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include recommendations based only on Alice's user account and Chloe's user account (e.g., also designated for inclusion in the content recommendations). Fig. 6II ) rather than content recommendations based on Dan's user account (indicated by device 500 displaying representation 638 of Alice's user account and representation 642 of Chloe's user account in gray fill). Specifically, media user interface 632 includes: representation 666 of movie N, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie N; representation 668 of movie O, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie O; representation 670 of movie P, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie P; and representation 672 of television program E, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play television program E. In some embodiments, for the same reasons as previously described, media items corresponding to representations 666-672 are optionally selected for display in media user interface 632.

[0223] In some embodiments, a user account that currently opts out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified group of user accounts may optionally opt in to such content recommendations. Figure 6NN In the display Figure 6MM , electronic device 500 receives a series of inputs for switching the user account currently active at device 500 from Alice's user account to Ethan's user account and for displaying account settings for Ethan's user account. In response to receiving the series of inputs, device 500 switches the user account currently active at device 500 from Alice's user account to Ethan's user account and displays a settings user interface 697 for Ethan's user account. Settings user interface 697 indicates current settings for Ethan's user account, including an indication 695 of an email address currently associated with Ethan's user account (Ethan.Appeseed@email_provider.com), an indication 693 of a user name currently associated with Ethan's user account (Ethan_Appleseed), an indication that Ethan's user account currently opts out of content recommendations based on a set of selected / specified user accounts (indicated by selectable option 691 displayed in a toggle-off state), and an indication that purchases made using Ethan's user account do not require a password (indicated by selectable option 689 displayed in a toggle-off state).

[0224] exist Figure 6NN , while device 500 is displaying settings user interface 697 and while Ethan's user account currently opts out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, device 500 receives a request to have Ethan's user account opt in to such content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601nn tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 691 is being displayed as having focus). In response to device 500 receiving the request in Figure 6NN The request to opt-in for Ethan's user account is in Figure 6OO , device 500 enables Ethan's user account to opt-in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified group of user accounts (indicated by selectable option 691 displayed in a toggled on state).

[0225] In some embodiments, after a user account opts in to content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts, the user account may be selected or designated for inclusion in such content recommendations. Figure 6PP, after device 500 causes Ethan's user account to opt-in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, device 500 receives a series of inputs for switching the user account currently active at device 500 from Ethan's user account to Alice's user account and for displaying the previously described media browsing user interface 632. In response to receiving the series of inputs, device 500 switches the user account currently active at device 500 from Ethan's user account to Alice's user account and displays media browsing user interface 632. Because Ethan's user account now opts-in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, device 500 displays a representation 698 of Ethan's user account in selectable user interface element 636 to indicate that Ethan's account is now designated for inclusion in content recommendations.

[0226] In some embodiments, when the user interface 632 is redisplayed after the user interface 632 has ceased to be displayed, the electronic device 500 automatically designates for inclusion in the content recommendations the user accounts that had previously opted in to the content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts. Figure 6QQ In the self-display Figure 6QQ , the electronic device 500 enters a low power mode (e.g., the device 500 remains on, but the display 514 in communication with the device 500 is turned off) after a certain amount of time has passed since the media user interface 632 shown in . In some embodiments, the device 500 enters a low power mode (e.g., a sleep mode) when no input is detected by the device 500 for a predefined time period (e.g., 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, etc.) and / or when the device 500 receives a command to cause the device 500 to enter a low power mode (e.g., a command is received from a dedicated remote control 510 and / or from a multifunction device in communication with the device 500).

[0227] exist Figure 6RR In the embodiment, device 500 receives input corresponding to a request to wake up device 500 and display a media browsing user interface. In response to receiving the input, device 500 exits the low power state and displays media browsing user interface 632. Figure 6RRAs shown, Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account have been automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., device 500 has not detected any user input designating these user accounts) because Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Ethan's user account had previously opted in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of users (indicated by device 500 displaying representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 642 of Chloe's user account, and representation 698 of Ethan's user account with a gray background). Because Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Ethan's user account have been automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations, media user interface 632 also includes media content recommendations based on Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Ethan's user account. Specifically, media user interface 632 includes: a representation 666 of movie N, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie N; a representation 668 of movie O, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie O; a representation 670 of movie P, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play movie P; and a representation 672 of television program E, which can be selected to cause device 500 to play television program E. In some embodiments, media items corresponding to representations 666-672 are optionally selected for display in media user interface 632 for the same reasons as previously described. In some embodiments, the user account corresponding to representation 640 is not automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations because the corresponding user account has not opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts.

[0228] In some embodiments, the electronic device 500 optionally joins (e.g., becomes part of) a synchronous media and communication session. Figure 6SS , electronic device 500 receives a series of inputs for joining a synchronized media and communication session with an electronic device associated with a user named Frank, an electronic device associated with a user named Gary, an electronic device associated with a user named Holly, an electronic device associated with a user named Ian, and an electronic device associated with a user named Jessica. In response to device 500 receiving the series of inputs, device 500 joins the synchronized media and communication session and displays an indication 687 indicating that device 500 is currently part of a synchronized media and communication session with the above-mentioned electronic devices. In some embodiments, when an electronic device that is currently part of a synchronized media and communication session begins playing a corresponding media content item, other electronic devices that are also part of the same synchronized media and communication session begin playing the corresponding media content item in synchronization with the electronic device, as will be described in more detail later.

[0229] In addition, because device 500 joins the synchronous media and communication session, device 500 updates selectable user interface 636 to include representations of user accounts associated with electronic devices in the synchronous media and communication session. Specifically, because device 500 joins the synchronous media and communication session with electronic devices associated with Frank, Gary, Holly, Ian, and Jessica, device 500 updates user interface element 636 to include: representation 640 of Frank's user account, indicating that Frank's user account can now be designated for inclusion in content recommendations; representation 642 of Gary's user account, indicating that Gary's user account can now be designated for inclusion in content recommendations; representation 698 of Holly's user account, indicating that Holly's user account can now be designated for inclusion in content recommendations; representation 687 of Ian's user account, indicating that Ian's user account can now be designated for inclusion in content recommendations; and representation 685 of Jessica's user account, indicating that Jessica's user account can now be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, when device 500 joins a synchronous media and communications session, user accounts currently configured on electronic device 500, other than user accounts currently active at device 500, cannot be selected for inclusion in content recommendations until device 500 leaves the synchronous media and communications session.

[0230] In some embodiments, when an electronic device joins sync media, user accounts associated with other electronic devices in the sync media and communication session are automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations. Figure 6SS As shown, since device 500 joins a synchronized media and communication session with electronic devices associated with users Frank, Gary, Holly, Ian, and Jessica, device 500 automatically designates user accounts corresponding to these devices for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by device 500 displaying representations 640, 642, 698, 687, and 685 corresponding to Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Holly's user account, Ian's user account, and Jessica's user account, respectively, in gray fill).

[0231] In addition, because device 500 has automatically designated Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gray's user account, Harry's user account, Ian's user account, and Jessica's user account for inclusion in content recommendations, media user interface 632 includes content recommendations based on these automatically designated user accounts. Specifically, media user interface 632 includes: representation 663 of movie W, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie W; representation 661 of movie X, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie X; representation 659 of movie Y, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie Y; and representation 657 of television program I, which, when selected, causes the device to play television program I. In some embodiments, media items corresponding to representations 657-663 are optionally selected for display in media user interface 632 for the same reasons as previously described. Device 500 also updates indication 634 to include the text "Gritty, Modern," thereby indicating that the content recommended based on the automatically designated user accounts relates to the categories Gritty and Modern.

[0232] exist Figure 6TT , while device 500 is displaying media user interface 632 and while device 500 is displaying selectable user interface element 636 having focus, device 500 receives a request to edit a user account currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601tt tapping touch-sensitive surface 451 while user interface element 636 is being displayed as having focus). Figure 6UU In response to receiving Figure 6TT In response to a request to edit the user accounts currently designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, device 500 displays user interface 654. User interface 654 includes representations of user accounts that can be selected or deselected for inclusion in the content recommendation, including representation 638 of Alice's user account, representation 640 of Frank's user account, representation 642 of Gary's user account, representation 644 of Harry's user account, representation 687 of Ian's user account, and representation 685 of Jessica's user account. Figure 6UU As shown, device 500 is displaying representations 638, 640, 642, 644, 685, and 687 as having check marks, thereby indicating that the user accounts corresponding to those representations are currently selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts.

[0233] exist Figure 6UU, while Ian's user account is currently selected for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by device 500 displaying representation 687 of Ian's user account as having a check mark), device 500 detects a request to deselect Ian's user account for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by touch contact 601uu tapping the touch-sensitive surface while representation 687 of Ian's user account is being displayed as having focus). Figure 6UU-1 , in response to device 500 receiving a request to remove Ian's user account from being included in content recommendations, device 500 removes Ian's user account from being included in content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts (indicated by device 500 no longer displaying a check mark at representation 687 of Ian's user account). Figure 6VV , after device 500 removes Ian's user account from being included in content recommendations, device 500 receives a request to change focus in user interface 654 (indicated by touch contact 601vv touching touch-sensitive surface 451). Figure 6WW In the detection Figure 6VV After the touch contact 601vv in , device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601vv has been swiped to the right (indicated by touch contact 601vv swiping to the right on touch-sensitive surface 451). In response to device 500 receiving the indication that touch contact 601vv has been swiped to the right, device 500 moves focus from representation 687 of Ian's user account to representation 685 of Jessica's user account (indicated by touch contact 610vv swiping to the right). Figure 6XX , after device 500 moves focus to representation 685 of Jessica's user account, device 500 receives an indication that touch contact 601vv has been swiped in a downward direction (indicated by the new position of touch contact 601vv on touch-sensitive surface 451). In response to device 500 receiving the indication that touch contact 601vv has been swiped in a downward direction, device 500 moves focus from representation 685 of Jessica's user account to selectable option 656 (indicated by device 500 displaying a dashed box at selectable option 656). Figure 6YY , after device 500 moves focus to selectable option 656, device 500 detects that touch contact 601vv is no longer in contact with touch-sensitive surface 451 (indicated by dashed touch contact 601vv). In response to device 500 detecting that touch contact 601vv has been lifted from touch-sensitive surface 451, device 500 continues to display focus at user interface element 656 and stops moving focus in accordance with the movement of touch contact 601vv.

[0234] exist Figure 6ZZ, device 500 detects a selection of selectable option 656 (indicated by touch contact 601zz tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while selectable option 656 is being displayed as having focus) while Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Harry's user account, and Jessica's user account are currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations (indicated by device 500 displaying check marks at representations 638, 640, 642, 644, and 685). Figure 6AAA In response to device 500 detecting a request for Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Harry's user account, and Jessica's user account when they are designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, Figure 6ZZ , device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include features based on Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Harry's user account, and Jessica's user account but not based on Ian's user account (e.g., based on user accounts designated for inclusion, such as Figure 6ZZ Specifically, device 500 updates media user interface 632 to include in the second corresponding row of media user interface 632: representation 683 of television program Z, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play television program Z; representation 681 of movie S, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie S; representation 679 of movie T, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie T; and representation 677 of movie U, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie U. In some embodiments, as previously described, media items corresponding to representations 677-683 are selected for display in media user interface 632 because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that the media items corresponding to representations 677-683 have a high probability (e.g., 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, etc.) of being liked by users Alice, Frank, Gary, Harry, and Jessica (e.g., users corresponding to Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Harry's user account, and Jessica's user account, respectively) based on the viewing behavior of Alice's user account, Frank's user account, Gary's user account, Harry's user account, and Jessica's user account (e.g., user accounts designated for inclusion in content recommendations).

[0235] In addition, because Ian's user account has been removed from being included in the content recommendations, device 500 updates the visual appearance of the representation (e.g., representation 687) corresponding to Ian's user account to indicate that Ian's user account is no longer designated for inclusion in the content recommendations. Device 500 also updates indication 634 to include the text "Drama, Director A", thereby indicating that the content recommended based on the designated user account relates to Director A and the category Drama.

[0236] exist Figure 6BBB , electronic device 500 receives a request to play television program Z (indicated by touch contact 601bbb tapping on touch-sensitive surface 451 while representation 683 of television program Z is displayed as having focus) while device 500 is displaying representation 683 of television program Z that has focus (indicated by a dashed box). In some embodiments, if the electronic device receives a request to play a corresponding media item while the electronic device is also part of a synchronized media and communications session, the electronic device begins playing the media item corresponding to the selected representation and also begins playing the media item in the synchronized media and communications session. For example, in Figure 6CCC In response to device 500 detecting the Figure 6BBB Upon selection of representation 683 of TV show Z in media user interface 603, device 500 begins playing Season 1, Episode 1 of TV show Z in media user interface 603, and causes Season 1, Episode 1 of TV show Z to also begin playing in the synchronized media and communications session. In some embodiments, when device 500 begins playing a new media item in the synchronized media and communications session, other electronic devices that are also part of the synchronized media and communications session receive an indication that the new media item has begun playing in the synchronized media and communications session, and optionally begin playing the new media item in synchronization with the electronic device that added the new media item to the synchronized media and communications session.

[0237] In some embodiments, when device 500 starts and / or ends playing a corresponding media content recommendation, device 500 updates the viewing history of the user account that initiated the playback of the corresponding media content recommendation (e.g., the user account active at device 500). Figure 6BBB When Alice selects TV program Z to be played in the game, her user account is designated for inclusion in the content recommendation (by device 500 in Figure 6BBB 638 indicating Alice's user account with a gray background), and because when device 500 detects Figure 6BBB , Alice's user account is the active user account at device 500, so device 500 updates Alice's user account to indicate that Alice has watched Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z.

[0238] In some embodiments, the electronic device may display content recommendations based on the viewing history of the corresponding user account. Figure 6DDD , device 500 is displaying a media browsing user interface 634a associated with Alice's user account (e.g., the user account currently configured on device 500 and currently active / logged in). Media browsing user interface 634a includes: a representation 623 of TV show Z, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play Season 1, Episode 2 of TV show Z; a representation 625 of movie T, which, when selected, causes device 500 to play movie T; a representation 627 of TV show U, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Season 1, Episode 1 of TV show U; and a representation 629 of TV show B, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Season 1, Episode 5 of TV show B.

[0239] Specifically, in Figure 6DDD In the example of , representation 623 of Season 1, Episode 2 of TV Show Z is displayed in media browsing user interface 634a because Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z was playing in the synchronized media and communication session when Alice's user account was selected for inclusion in content recommendations, and because Alice has not yet watched the next episode after Season 1, Episode 1 (e.g., has not yet watched Season 1, Episode 2 of TV Show Z). For similar reasons, media items corresponding to representations 627 and 629 are optionally selected. In some embodiments, a media item corresponding to representation 625 is optionally selected for display in media user interface 634 because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that Alice has partially watched movie T (e.g., the media item corresponding to representation 625).

[0240] In some embodiments, if the device 500 is part of a synchronized media and communication session when the corresponding media content recommendation is selected for playback, the viewing history of the user account selected or designated for inclusion in the content recommendation is updated to reflect the playback of the corresponding media content recommendation, and the viewing history of the user account not selected for inclusion is not updated to reflect the playback of the corresponding media content recommendation. Figure 6BBB When selecting TV program Z to be played in the game, Frank's user account is designated for inclusion in the content recommendation (by device 500 in Figure 6BBB), and because device 500 is part of synchronized media and communications when a request to playback television program Z is detected, device 500 initiates a process of updating Frank's user account to indicate that Frank has watched Season 1, Episode 1 of television program Z. In some embodiments, initiating a process of updating Frank's user account to indicate that Frank has watched Season 1, Episode 1 of television program Z includes device 500 transmitting an indication that Frank has watched (or is watching) Season 1, Episode 1 of television program Z to device 500b (e.g., associated with Frank's user account).

[0241] As mentioned previously, in some embodiments, the electronic device may display content recommendations based on the viewing history of the corresponding user account. Figure 6EEE , device 500b is displaying a media browsing user interface 634b associated with Frank's user account (e.g., the user account currently configured and currently active / logged in on device 500b). Media browsing user interface 634b includes: a representation 631 of TV show Z, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Season 1, Episode 2 of TV show Z; a representation 633 of Movie A, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Movie A; a representation 635 of TV show P, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Season 1, Episode 7 of TV show P; and a representation 637 of TV show F, which, when selected, causes device 500b to play Season 3, Episode 1 of TV show B.

[0242] Specifically, in Figure 6EEE In the example of , representation 623 of Season 1, Episode 2 of TV Show Z is displayed in media browsing user interface 634b because Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z was playing in the synchronized media and communication session when Frank's user account was selected for inclusion in content recommendations, and because Frank has not yet watched the next episode after Season 1, Episode 1 (e.g., has not yet watched Season 1, Episode 2 of TV Show Z). For similar reasons, media items corresponding to representations 635 and 637 are optionally selected. In some embodiments, the media item corresponding to representation 633 is optionally selected for display in media user interface 634 because device 500 (or a server in communication with device 500) determines that Alice has partially watched Movie A (e.g., the media item corresponding to representation 633).

[0243] As previously described, in some embodiments, when user accounts associated with synchronized media and communications are not designated for inclusion when corresponding media content recommendations are selected for playback, the viewing history of those user accounts is not updated. Figure 6BBB When selecting to play TV program Z in the video, Ian's user account is not specified for inclusion in the content recommendation (by device 500 in Figure 6BBB 687 indicating that Ian's user account is displayed with a white background in FIG), so device 500 does not initiate the process of updating Ian's user account to indicate that Ian has watched Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z. Figure 6FFF , because device 500 does not update Ian's user account to indicate that Ian has watched Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z, the media user interface 634c associated with Ian's user account (which has similar characteristics to media user interfaces 634a and 634b) does not include a representation corresponding to the next episode after Season 1, Episode 1 of TV Show Z.

[0244] In some embodiments, when the recommended content item is selected for viewing, the electronic device is not part of a synchronized media and communication session, such as in Figure 6BBB As in, only the user account currently active at device 500 is updated to reflect the viewing of the content item, while other user accounts, even user accounts selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, are not updated to reflect the viewing of the recommended content item for viewing. In such examples, if device 500 cannot determine the user who is viewing the recommended content item with Alice, only the viewing history of the user account that was active at the electronic device when the media content recommendation was selected for playback is updated. Alternatively, in some embodiments, when electronic device 500 begins playback of a content recommendation, electronic device 500 initiates a process for detecting users who are viewing the recommended content item with Alice, as described in more detail with reference to method 700.

[0245] Figure 7 A flowchart of a method for displaying media content recommendations for a group of users according to some embodiments of the present disclosure is shown. Method 700 is optionally performed at an electronic device (such as device 100, device 300, device 500), such as the above reference Figure 1A to Figure 1B , Figures 2 to 3 , FIG. 4A to FIG. 4B and FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C Some operations in method 700 are optionally combined, and / or the order of some operations is optionally changed.

[0246] As described below, method 700 provides a way for an electronic device to display content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. The method reduces the cognitive burden on the user when interacting with the device user interface of the present disclosure, thereby creating a more efficient human-computer interface. For battery-powered electronic devices, improving the efficiency of user interaction with the user interface saves power and increases the time between battery charges.

[0247] In some embodiments, method 700 is performed at an electronic device (e.g., 500) that communicates with a display generation component (e.g., 514) and one or more input devices (e.g., 510). In some embodiments, the electronic device is a mobile device (e.g., a tablet, a smart phone, a media player, or a wearable device), a computer (e.g., a desktop computer, a laptop computer), or a wearable device (e.g., a watch, a head-mounted device), optionally communicating with one or more of a mouse (e.g., external), a touchpad (optionally integrated or external), a remote control device (e.g., external), another mobile device (e.g., separate from the electronic device), a handheld device (e.g., external), and / or a controller (e.g., external, etc.), or a set-top box that communicates with one or more input devices (e.g., a remote control). In some embodiments, the display generation component is a display (optionally a touch screen display) integrated with the electronic device, an external display such as a monitor, a projector, a television, or a hardware component (optionally integrated or external) for projecting a user interface or making the user interface visible to one or more users, etc.

[0248] In some embodiments, when the electronic device (e.g., 500) is associated with multiple user accounts including a first user account (e.g., the electronic device is a multi-user device associated with multiple user accounts), the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays (702) via a display generation component (e.g., 514) a (e.g., multi) media browsing user interface associated with the first user account (e.g., a user interface including media items such as movies, television programs, live sports games, music, podcasts, books, videos, etc.), such as the media browsing user interface 632 associated with Alice's user account. In some embodiments, the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device are user accounts that have been configured on the electronic device and can be accessed by the electronic device (e.g., saved on the electronic device). In some embodiments, when one or more users perform a process of creating / setting up one or more corresponding user accounts on the electronic device, the user accounts are configured on the electronic device and can be accessed on the electronic device.

[0249] Additionally or alternatively, in some embodiments, the electronic device is associated with a user account that is not stored on the electronic device (e.g., the user account is inaccessible on the electronic device). For example, the electronic device is optionally associated with a user account that is part of an active synchronous media and communication session with a first user account. In some embodiments, the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device include both user accounts configured on the electronic device (e.g., user accounts local to the electronic device, user accounts accessible on the electronic device, etc.) and user accounts that are not configured on the electronic device (e.g., user accounts that are inaccessible on the electronic device and are associated with the electronic device only when the first user account joins the synchronous media and communication session that includes those user accounts and / or as part of it). In some embodiments, the first user account is a user account that is currently active on the electronic device, so that the electronic device operates based on the settings, purchases, subscriptions, etc. of the first user account (e.g., the electronic device is able to access the content or application purchases of the first user account but cannot access these items of other user accounts in the user account, and / or provide content recommendations based on the first user account rather than other user accounts in the user account). In some embodiments, each user account in the multiple user accounts is associated with a different user.

[0250] In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface includes user interface elements, such as a navigation bar, for navigating to different types of media content (movies, TV shows, sports, searches, etc.). For example, the electronic device is displaying the media browsing user interface of the first user account (e.g., displaying the media in the media browsing user interface based on the settings and / or behaviors defined by the first user account). In some embodiments, if the electronic device is converted to a second user account different from the first user account, the media browsing user interface is displayed based on the settings and / or behaviors defined by the first user account. In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface is optionally associated with an (e.g., media) application running on the electronic device. In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface is optionally controlled / navigated by a dedicated remote control device of the electronic device, or optionally controlled / navigated by a multifunctional electronic device that can transmit control / navigation commands to the electronic device. In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface includes representations of media content (e.g., movies, episode content, songs, podcasts, etc.), which can be selected to display a user interface (e.g., a product page) dedicated to the selected representation, or can be selected to initiate a process of displaying (e.g., playing) the media content corresponding to the selected representation at the electronic device. In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface optionally displays one or more representations of media content in different categories / groups. For example, the media browsing user interface optionally displays representations of media content that is popular / hot, new (e.g., recently added) or featured, recommended to users of the first user account, recommended to a group (e.g., selected / specified) of users, etc.

[0251] In some embodiments, based on determining that the first user account satisfies one or more criteria (704) (e.g., if the first user account is among multiple user accounts that can be selected / designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on user accounts that have been selected / designated (e.g., and not based on other user accounts that have not been selected / or designated)), based on determining that a first user account subset of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500) has been selected (e.g., manually and / or automatically) for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., in some embodiments, the first user account subset is optionally selected by users of the first user accounts), the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays (706) in a media browsing user interface one or more representations of media content recommendations (e.g., representations of recommended music, movies, television content, videos, and / or audio content) based on one or more characteristics of the first user account and the first user account subset, such as device 500 displaying content recommendations based on Alice's user account and Chloe's user account because these user accounts are in Figure 6Whas been designated for inclusion. For example, the media browsing user interface optionally includes representations of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device, which can be selected by a user of the first user account (or by a user associated with the multiple user accounts) via a remote control device or a remote control application running on a second electronic device. In some embodiments, the users corresponding to the first user account subset are in the same physical location as the user of the first user account. In some embodiments, the first user account subset is optionally automatically selected. For example, if the first user account (e.g., or if the electronic device) is in a synchronized media and communication session with the first user account subset, the first subset is optionally automatically selected.

[0252] In some such examples, the first subset automatically corresponds to user accounts that are part of the synchronized media and communication session (e.g., the first user account and other user accounts that are also part of the synchronized media and communication session). In some embodiments, if the first subset is automatically selected, the first subset is selected without user input. In some embodiments, if the first subset is manually selected, the manual selection of the first user account subset is performed at a user interface different from the media browsing user interface. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the manual selection of the first user account subset is performed at the media browsing user interface. For example, in response to the first user account subset having been selected (e.g., with or without user input), the media browsing user interface includes recommendations based on (e.g., viewing) characteristics of the selected user accounts (e.g., the first user account and the first user account subset) and optionally excluding (e.g., not based on) characteristics of user accounts associated with the electronic device that were not selected / specified for inclusion.

[0253] In some embodiments, media content recommendations are based on characteristics of the first user account and a subset of the first user accounts, such as characteristics including viewing behavior of the corresponding user accounts, corresponding user-assigned ratings of one or more (e.g., viewed and / or recommended) media content items, viewing history of the corresponding user accounts, duration of time that viewers have viewed the corresponding media content items, etc. In some embodiments, the one or more representations are optionally selectable to start playback of the selected media item (e.g., initiate the process of playback), or are selectable to display a product page user interface corresponding to the selected media item.

[0254] In some embodiments, if the first user account has opted in to be included in content recommendations based on user accounts that have been selected / specified, the first user account may be selected / specified. In some embodiments, the first user account needs to be opted in before the first user account is used to generate content recommendations. In some embodiments, the first user account may opt in when the user of the first user account first initiates the process of selecting / specifying user accounts that should be considered when generating content recommendations (e.g., without previously opting in). For example, if the user of the first user account initiates the process of selecting / specifying user accounts that should be included in content recommendations, and if the first user account has not previously opted in to allow the first user account to be used for recommended content, a selectable option that allows the user to opt in / agree is optionally displayed. In some embodiments, the selectable option must be selected before the user of the first user account can select / specify other user accounts.

[0255] Additionally or alternatively, the first user account may opt in / out of content recommendations based on user accounts that have been selected / specified from an application (e.g., settings) running on the electronic device that is separate from the media browsing application. In some embodiments, when the first user account has previously agreed to allow the first user account to be used for content recommendations, such as when the first user account joins a synchronized media and communication session, when the first user account has previously agreed during previous use, etc., the first user account automatically meets the one or more criteria (e.g., without explicitly opting in from the settings application or without selecting a selectable option displayed when the user is first selected / specified).

[0256] In some embodiments, based on determining that the first user account satisfies one or more criteria (704), based on determining that a second user account subset of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500) that is different from the first user account subset has been selected (e.g., manually and / or automatically) for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., in some embodiments, the second user account subset is optionally selected by users of the first user account), the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays (708) in a media browsing user interface one or more representations of media content recommendations (e.g., representations of recommended music, movies, television content, videos, and / or audio content) based on one or more characteristics of the first user account and the second user account subset, such as device 500 displaying content recommendations based on Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account because these user accounts are in Fig. 6IIhas been designated for inclusion. For example, the media browsing user interface optionally includes representations of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device, which can be selected by the user of the first user account (or by the user associated with the multiple user accounts) via a remote control device or a remote control application running on the second electronic device. In some embodiments, the user corresponding to the second user account subset is in the same physical location as the user of the first user account. In some embodiments, the second user account subset is optionally selected automatically. For example, if the first user account (e.g., or electronic device) is in a synchronous media and communication session with the second user account subset, the second subset is optionally selected automatically. In some such examples, the second subset automatically corresponds to a user account that is part of the synchronous media and communication session (e.g., the first user account and other user accounts that are also part of the synchronous media and communication session). In some embodiments, if the second subset is automatically selected, the second subset is selected without user input. In some embodiments, if the second subset is manually selected, the manual selection of the second user account subset is performed at a user interface different from the media browsing user interface. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the manual selection of the second user account subset is performed at the media browsing user interface.

[0257] For example, in response to the second user account subset having been selected (e.g., with or without user input), the media browsing user interface includes recommendations based on (e.g., viewing) characteristics of the selected user accounts (e.g., the first user account and the second user account subset) and optionally excludes (e.g., is not based on) characteristics of user accounts associated with the electronic device that are not selected / designated for inclusion. In some embodiments, the media content recommendations are based on characteristics of the first user account and the second user account subset, such as characteristics including viewing behavior of the corresponding user accounts, corresponding user assigned ratings of corresponding (e.g., viewed and / or recommended) media content items, viewing history of the corresponding user accounts, duration of viewing of the corresponding media content items by viewers, etc. In some embodiments, the one or more representations may optionally be selected to start playback of the selected media item (e.g., initiate the playback process), or may be selected to display a product page user interface corresponding to the selected media item. In some embodiments, the content recommended based on the first user account and the first user account subset is different from the content recommended based on the first user account and the second user account subset. In some embodiments, a portion of the content recommended based on the first user account and the first subset of user accounts is also recommended based on the first user account and the second subset of user accounts (e.g., because the first subset and the second subset have similar characteristics).

[0258] The above-mentioned method of displaying content recommendations based on the characteristics of selected / specified user accounts among the accounts associated with the electronic device provides an efficient way to recommend content based on multiple specific user accounts, which simplifies the interaction between the user and the electronic device, enhances the operability of the electronic device, and makes the user-device interface more efficient, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0259] In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface includes a first area, such as Fig. 6II In the second corresponding row in the media user interface 632 in the first area, the first area includes the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on the selected subset of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500), and the second corresponding row includes content recommendations based on a group of user accounts selected or specified for inclusion. For example, the electronic device displays media content recommendations based on a group of selected or specified user accounts in the first row of the media browsing user interface. In some embodiments, if the first user account does not choose to join the content recommendations based on a group of selected or specified user accounts, the one or more representations of media content recommendations are not displayed in the first area. In some embodiments, the media content recommendations displayed in the first area can be selected to play the media items corresponding to the selected representations at the electronic device. In some embodiments, if the selected subset corresponds to the first user account subset, the first area includes media content recommendations based on the first user account subset. In some embodiments, if the selected subset corresponds to the second user account subset, the first area includes media content recommendations based on the second user account subset.

[0260] In some embodiments, the media browsing user interface includes a second area, such as Fig. 6IIThe third corresponding row in the media browsing user interface 632 in the second area includes one or more representations of media content recommendations that are not based on a selected subset of the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500), and the third corresponding row includes media content recommendations that are recommended because the user Alice has watched "Movie A". For example, in addition to including representations of media items recommended based on a selected user account subset, the media browsing user interface also includes one or more representations of media content recommendations that are not based on a selected user account subset. In some embodiments, representations of media content recommendations that are not based on a selected user account subset are displayed in the second area (e.g., the second row) of the media user interface, while media content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts are displayed in the first area (e.g., the first row). In some embodiments, the media content recommendations displayed in the second area can be selected to play the media items corresponding to the selected representation at the electronic device. In some embodiments, the media content recommendations in the second area correspond to recommendations based only on the first user account (and not on any other user account). For example, content recommendations in the second area are optionally displayed due to activities associated with the first user account (e.g., the first user account watched Movie A).

[0261] The above-mentioned method of displaying content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts in the first area and displaying content recommendations not based on a selected or specified set of user accounts in the second area provides an efficient way of indicating content recommendations based on a selected set of user accounts and content recommendations not based on a selected set of user accounts, which simplifies the interaction between the user and the electronic device, enhances the operability of the electronic device, and makes the user-device interface more efficient, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0262] Accounts that may be considered (e.g., selected / specified) for content recommendation are displayed in an element near the recommended content. In some embodiments, the account considered is reset in each session.

[0263] In some embodiments, the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a visual indication in the media browsing user interface indicating one or more user accounts among the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500) that can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, such as Fig. 6II. For example, a user account that can be designated for inclusion in a content recommendation (e.g., which is based on a set of selected or specified user accounts) is indicated in a media browsing user interface. In some embodiments, indicating a user account that can be designated for inclusion in a content recommendation includes displaying an avatar of each user account that can be designated for inclusion in such content recommendations. In some embodiments, if a user account does not explicitly opt out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the user account can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, a visual indication can be selected to initiate a process of designating or selecting one or more user accounts for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, a visual indication is displayed in and / or near an area of the media browsing user interface that includes content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. In some embodiments, at the start of each session of an electronic device, a user account that has opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts is automatically designated for inclusion in such content recommendations. The above-mentioned manner of displaying indications of user accounts that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts provides an efficient manner of indicating user accounts that can be selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations, which simplifies the interaction between the user and the electronic device, enhances the operability of the electronic device, and makes the user-device interface more efficient, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0264] In some embodiments, the plurality of user accounts includes a second user account (e.g., the electronic device is associated with a first user account and a second user account), and displaying a visual indication indicating the one or more user accounts in the plurality of user accounts includes: based on determining that the second user account cannot be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, displaying a visual indication that does not include a visual indication of the second user account, such as in Figure 6MM There is no representation of Dan's user account in Figure 6LL In some embodiments, Dan's user account is opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts. For example, if a second user account is opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts, the visual indication does not include an indication of the second user account. In some embodiments, the settings of the second user account control whether the second user account can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, the second user account can opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts after having previously opted in. For example, by switching off such content recommendations in a settings user interface associated with the second user account.

[0265] In some embodiments, the electronic device may switch to displaying a user interface / content associated with a second user account in response to detecting one or more inputs. In some embodiments, the second user account is associated with a user different from the user associated with the first user account.

[0266] In some embodiments, the multiple user accounts include a second user account (for example, the electronic device is associated with the first user account and the second user account), and displaying a visual indication indicating the one or more user accounts in the multiple user accounts includes: based on determining that the second user account can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, displaying a visual indication including a visual indication of the second user account, such as, Fig. 6A , representations 638-644 are being displayed because the user accounts corresponding to those representations can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendations. For example, if a second user account can be selected or designated for inclusion in the content recommendations, the visual indication includes an indication of the second user account. In some embodiments, the second user account can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendations because the second user account has opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts and / or because the second user account has not opted out of such content recommendations. In some embodiments, the second user account may opt in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts after having previously opted out of such content recommendations. For example, by switching on content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts in the settings user interface.

[0267] The above-mentioned manner of indicating only user accounts that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations provides an efficient manner of indicating user accounts that can be used for inclusion in content recommendations, which simplifies the interaction between the user and the electronic device, enhances the operability of the electronic device, and makes the user-device interface more efficient, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0268] In some embodiments, the plurality of user accounts includes a second user account that can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, and displaying the visual indication indicating the one or more user accounts in the plurality of user accounts includes: based on determining that the second user account has been selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, displaying the visual indication including a visual indication of the second user account displayed in a first visual appearance, such as displayed on a gray background. Figure 6X, because the corresponding user account has been designated for inclusion. For example, if the second user account has been selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, the visual indication indicates the second user account with a first visual appearance. In some embodiments, the first visual indication includes a representation of the second user account (e.g., an avatar, a profile image, etc.). In some such embodiments, if the second user account has been designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, the representation of the second user account is displayed with a first visual appearance. In some embodiments, displaying the representation of the second user account with a first visual appearance includes displaying the representation of the second user account with a solid fill (e.g., non-white) background. In some embodiments, other user accounts that are also not selected for inclusion in the content recommendation are displayed with a first visual appearance.

[0269] In some embodiments, the second user account is associated with the electronic device because the second user account is configured on the electronic device. In some embodiments, the second user account is associated with the electronic device because the device associated with the second user account is part of a synchronous media and communication session with the electronic device.

[0270] In some embodiments, the plurality of user accounts includes a second user account that can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, and displaying the visual indication indicating the one or more user accounts in the plurality of user accounts includes: based on determining that the second user account is not selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, displaying the visual indication including the visual indication of the second user account displayed in a second visual appearance different from the first visual appearance, such as displaying the second user account with a white background. Figure 6X , because the corresponding user account is not designated for inclusion. For example, if the second user account is not selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, the visual indication indicates the second user account with a second visual appearance. In some embodiments, the second visual indication includes a representation of the second user account (e.g., an avatar, a profile image, etc.). In some such embodiments, if the second user account is not designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, the representation of the second user account is displayed with a second visual appearance. In some embodiments, displaying the representation of the second user account with a second visual appearance includes displaying the representation of the second user account with a white / transparent background. In some embodiments, other user accounts that have also been selected for inclusion in the content recommendation are displayed with a second visual appearance.

[0271] The above-mentioned manner of indicating user accounts that have been selected for inclusion in content recommendations with a first visual appearance and indicating user accounts that have not been selected for inclusion in content recommendations with a different visual appearance provides an efficient manner of visually indicating which group of user accounts the currently displayed content recommendations are based on, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0272] In some embodiments, while a visual indication indicating that the one or more user accounts in the multiple user accounts indicate that a first user account subset of the multiple user accounts has been selected for inclusion in content recommendations, and the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on the one or more characteristics of the first user account and the first user account subset are displayed in a media browsing user interface, the electronic device (e.g., 500) receives a first series of one or more inputs directed to the visual indication via the one or more input devices (e.g., 510), the first series of one or more inputs corresponding to a request to select a second user account subset of the multiple user accounts that has been selected for inclusion in content recommendations instead of the first user account subset, such as Figures 6BB to 6HH In some embodiments, the electronic device receives a request to modify the user accounts currently selected for inclusion in the content recommendations when the media user interface includes content recommendations based on a first subset of user accounts. In some embodiments, before a second subset of user accounts can be selected for inclusion, the second subset of user accounts must opt-in to content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts. In some embodiments, if the one or more inputs for selecting the second subset of user accounts are detected when the second subset of user accounts has not opted in to content recommendations (e.g., it is based on a selected or specified set of user accounts), the electronic device displays a consent user interface for the second subset of user accounts, the consent user interface including a selectable option for opting those user accounts in to content recommendations.

[0273] In some embodiments, the first series of inputs directed to the visual indication includes an input selecting the visual indication (e.g., via a dedicated remote control or a multifunction device that communicates with the electronic device). In some embodiments, when the visual indication is selected, the electronic device displays a user interface for editing the user account currently selected for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. In some embodiments, the user interface includes representations of user accounts that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations, which can be selected (e.g., can be toggled) to select the corresponding user account for inclusion in the content recommendation or to deselect the corresponding user account for not being included in the content recommendation.

[0274] In some embodiments, in response to receiving the first series of one or more inputs, the electronic device (e.g., 500) updates the visual indication to indicate that a second subset of user accounts of the plurality of user accounts has been selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, such as, Fig. 6II , device 500 indicates that Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account have been selected for inclusion because representations corresponding to these user accounts are displayed with a gray background. For example, after selecting the second subset of user accounts for inclusion in the content recommendation, the visual indication is updated to indicate that the first subset of user accounts and the second subset of user accounts are now selected for inclusion in the content recommendation.

[0275] In some embodiments, in response to receiving the first series of one or more inputs, the electronic device (e.g., 500) updates the media browsing user interface to include the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on the one or more characteristics of the first user account and the second user account subset, such as Fig. 6II The media user interface 632 in includes representations 682-688 because the media items corresponding to those representations are recommended based on the characteristics of Alice's user account, Chloe's user account, and Dan's user account. For example, after an additional user account (e.g., a user account corresponding to a second user account subset) is selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, the media browsing user interface is updated to include media content recommendations based on all user accounts selected for inclusion (e.g., a first user account subset and a second user account subset). In some embodiments, media content recommendations are recommended to the group of selected user accounts because those media items have a high probability of being liked by users associated with the group of selected or specified user accounts. In some embodiments, media content recommendations are based on characteristics of the first user account and the second user account subset, such as characteristics including viewing behavior of the corresponding user account, corresponding user assigned ratings of corresponding (e.g., viewed and / or recommended) media content items, viewing history of the corresponding user account, duration of viewing of the corresponding media content item by the viewer, and the like. In some embodiments, the one or more representations are optionally selectable to begin playback of the selected media item (e.g., initiate the playback process), or are selectable to display a product page user interface corresponding to the selected media item.

[0276] The above-described manner of updating content recommendations when additional user accounts have been selected for inclusion in the content recommendations provides an efficient manner of updating displayed content recommendations in response to changes in selected or designated user accounts, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0277] In some embodiments, when a visual indication indicating one or more user accounts among the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device that can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations includes an indication of a first one or more user accounts, and when a media browsing user interface includes one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of one or more of the first one or more user accounts, the electronic device (e.g., 500) detects an indication that a status of a corresponding user account among the multiple user accounts with respect to inclusion in content recommendations has changed (e.g., the corresponding user account has changed from opting out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts to opting in to such content recommendations, or has changed from opting in to opting out of such content recommendations based on a selected or designated group of user accounts).

[0278] In some embodiments, after detecting an indication that the status of the corresponding user account with respect to inclusion in content recommendations has changed, the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface via a display generation component (e.g., 514), the media browsing user interface including: based on determining that the corresponding user account can be designated for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., if the corresponding user account is now available for inclusion in content recommendations), a visual indication of an indication of the corresponding user account, such as in Figure 6PP , device 500 displays a representation 698 of Ethan's user account as Ethan's user account transitions from opting out of content recommendations to opting in to content recommendations. For example, after the corresponding user account changes from opting out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts to opting in to such content recommendations, the visual indication includes an indication that the corresponding user account may be designated for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, the state of the corresponding user account changes while the electronic device is displaying a media browsing user interface. In some embodiments, after the corresponding user account opts in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, a visual indication may be selected to select the corresponding user account for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, after the corresponding user account opts in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the corresponding user account is automatically selected for inclusion in content recommendations.

[0279] In some embodiments, after detecting an indication that the status of the corresponding user account regarding inclusion in content recommendations has changed, the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface including one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of one or more user accounts of the first one or more user accounts including the corresponding user account via a display generation component (e.g., 514). For example, after the corresponding user account opts in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the media content recommendations are updated to be based on the first one or more user accounts (e.g., user accounts previously selected for inclusion in content recommendations) and a new user account (the corresponding user account) that has recently opted in to content recommendations.

[0280] In some embodiments, after detecting an indication that the status of the corresponding user account with respect to inclusion in content recommendations has changed, the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface via a display generation component (e.g., 514), the media browsing user interface including: based on a determination that the corresponding user account cannot be designated for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., if the corresponding user account is not available for inclusion in content recommendations), a visual indication of an indication of the corresponding user account is not included, such as in Figure 6MM 5. In the example, device 500 does not display representation 644 of Dan's user account because Dan's user account transitioned from opting in to content recommendations to opting out of content recommendations. For example, after the corresponding user account changes from opting in to content recommendations based on a set of selected / designated user accounts to opting out of such content recommendations, the visual indication no longer indicates that the corresponding user account is available to be designated for inclusion in content recommendations.

[0281] In some embodiments, after detecting an indication that the status of the corresponding user account with respect to inclusion in content recommendations has changed, the electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface via a display generation component (e.g., 514), which includes: based on determining that the corresponding user account cannot be designated for inclusion in content recommendations (e.g., if the corresponding user account is not available for inclusion in content recommendations), one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of one or more user accounts in the first one or more user accounts that do not include the corresponding user account. For example, after the corresponding user account opts out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the content recommendations displayed in the media user interface are no longer based on the corresponding user account, but are only based on user accounts that have been selected for inclusion in such content recommendations. In some embodiments, the media user interface includes an indication (e.g., graphic and / or text) of the categories of content recommended for one or more first user accounts, without explicitly indicating the profile of the user that caused the particular media item to be recommended.

[0282] The above-mentioned method of updating the media browsing user interface according to the change of the status of the corresponding user account provides an efficient way to update media content recommendations in real time when user accounts opt in and opt out of content recommendations based on a selected or specified group of user accounts, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of electronic devices by enabling users to use electronic devices more quickly and efficiently.

[0283] In some embodiments, (e.g., when the first user account is the user account currently active at the electronic device and) when the media browsing user interface is not displayed (e.g., the electronic device is displaying a home screen user interface, a user interface for a corresponding media item, etc.), the electronic device (e.g., 500) receives a first input corresponding to a request to display a media browsing user interface via the one or more input devices (e.g., 510).

[0284] In some embodiments, in response to receiving a first input, an electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface via a display generation component (e.g., 514), wherein the media browsing user interface includes: based on determining that at least one of the multiple user accounts can be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of the at least one user account among the multiple user accounts. For example, if at least one user account is selected for inclusion in the content recommendation, the media user interface includes content recommendations based on user accounts that have been selected for inclusion in the content recommendation (e.g., and optionally excluding (e.g., not based on) characteristics that are not available for the user account selected / designated for inclusion in the content recommendation). In some embodiments, the one or more representations of media content recommendations can optionally be selected to start playback of the selected media item (e.g., initiate the playback process) or can be selected to display a product page user interface corresponding to the selected media item.

[0285] In some embodiments, in response to receiving a first input, an electronic device (e.g., 500) displays a media browsing user interface via a display generation component (e.g., 514), wherein the media browsing user interface includes: based on determining that at least one of the multiple user accounts cannot be designated for inclusion in content recommendations, one or more representations of media content recommendations that are not based on one or more characteristics of one or more of the multiple user accounts, and do not include the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on the one or more characteristics of the at least one user account in the multiple user accounts, such as Fig. 6AThe content recommendations in correspond to general recommendations because no user account has been designated for inclusion. For example, if no user account is available for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the media user interface includes content recommendations that are not specific to any selected / designated user account (e.g., displaying popular media content, media content recommended only based on the viewing profile of the first user account, etc.). In some embodiments, the electronic device automatically designates a user account for inclusion in content recommendations. For example, in some embodiments, when the electronic device wakes up from a low power mode (e.g., sleep mode), the electronic device automatically designates a user account that has previously been selected to be included in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts (e.g., and does not automatically designate a user account that has not previously been selected to be included in this content recommendation for inclusion in the content recommendation). The above-mentioned method of displaying media content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts when at least one user account has been selected or designated and not displaying this content recommendation when a user account has not been selected or designated provides an efficient method of displaying this content recommendation only when at least one user account is available for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and more efficiently.

[0286] In some embodiments, the one or more criteria include criteria that are satisfied if the first user account may be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation and that are not satisfied if the first user account may not be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. In some embodiments, if the first user account has opted in to be included in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the first user account may be selected / designated for inclusion. In some embodiments, if the first user account has opted out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts, the first user account may not be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. In some embodiments, the first user account may opt in / out of content recommendations based on a set of selected / designated user accounts from a user interface that is separate from the media browsing user interface (e.g., settings).

[0287] In some embodiments, based on determining that the first user account does not meet the one or more criteria, the media browsing user interface does not include one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of one or more user accounts in the multiple user accounts, such as, Figure 6H, the media user interface 632 does not include media content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts because Alice's user account opts out of such content recommendations. For example, if the first user account opts out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the media browsing user interface associated with the first user account does not include any content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. In some embodiments, when the first user account has opted out of such content recommendations, other user accounts that have opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts at the electronic device may display such content recommendations. In some embodiments, if the media browsing user interface does not include content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts, the media browsing user interface displays other categories of media content (e.g., popular media content, hot media content, etc.) or displays other content recommendations based only on the first user account (rather than on a set of user accounts that have been explicitly selected (e.g., by the user) for inclusion in content recommendations). In some embodiments, after the device enters sleep mode, the user account selected or specified for inclusion in content recommendations is no longer selected. For example, the next time the electronic device displays the media browsing user interface, the content recommendation is based on all user accounts that have previously opted in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or specified user accounts.

[0288] The above-mentioned method of abandoning the display of content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts when the first user account has not opted in to the content recommendations provides an efficient method of displaying content recommendations only when the user account associated with the media browsing user interface (e.g., the first user account) has opted in to such content recommendations, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0289] In some embodiments, the one or more criteria include criteria that are satisfied when additional user accounts other than the first user account may be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation and that are not satisfied when additional user accounts other than the first user account may not be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. For example, if a user account associated with the media user interface (e.g., the first user account) and at least one additional user account may be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation, the media user interface includes content recommendations based on a selected set of user accounts. In some embodiments, if the first user account and the additional user accounts have not opted out of content recommendations based on a selected or designated set of user accounts, these user accounts may be designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. In some embodiments, if the first user account and / or at least one additional user account have not opted in to content recommendations based on a selected set of user accounts, the media user interface does not include media content recommendations based on a selected set of user accounts.

[0290] The above-described criteria that are met when a first user account and additional user accounts may be designated for content recommendations provide an efficient manner of displaying content recommendations only for a selected group / groups, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0291] In some embodiments, the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on one or more characteristics of the first user account and the first user account subset include: based on determining that the first user account subset is associated with the first set of content restrictions, a first representation of the first media content recommendation based on the first set of content restrictions, such as Figure 6JJ , content recommendations recommended because Dan's user account corresponds to a "child" user account. For example, media content is recommended based on the content restrictions of the first subset of user accounts. In some embodiments, the first set of content restrictions is based on the types of user accounts included in the first subset. For example, in some embodiments, the first subset of user accounts corresponds only to "regular" user accounts, and "regular" user accounts are optionally user account types that have access rights to any level of media content, such as media content rated G (general), PG (parental guidance suggested), PG-13 (parents pay special attention), R (restricted), etc. Therefore, in some embodiments, if the first subset of user accounts corresponds only to "regular" user accounts, the first media content recommendation is based on the content restrictions defined for the "regular" user account.

[0292] In some embodiments, the one or more representations of media content recommendations based on the one or more characteristics of the first user account and the first user account subset include: based on determining that the first user account subset is associated with a second set of content restrictions that is different from the first set of content restrictions, second media content recommendations based on the second set of content restrictions (such as Fig. 6IIIn some embodiments, a second representation of content recommendations (i.e., content recommendations recommended because Dan's user account does not correspond to a "child" user account) is included without including the first representation of the first media content recommendation. For example, media content is recommended based on the content restrictions of the second subset of user accounts. In some embodiments, the second set of content restrictions is based on the types of user accounts included in the first subset. For example, in some embodiments, the first subset of user accounts may include "regular" user accounts and "child" user accounts. As mentioned above, in some embodiments, a "regular" user account is a user account type that has access rights to any type of media content (such as media content rated G (general), PG (parental guidance recommended), PG-13 (parents pay special attention), R (restricted), etc.). In contrast, a "child" user account is optionally a user account type that has access rights to media content of up to a specific content / maturity level (e.g., media content items rated up to PG-13). If the second subset of user accounts includes a "regular" user account and a "child" user account, the second media content recommendations are based on the content restrictions defined by the "child" user account (and the "regular" user account) in the first subset (e.g., because the child user account has the most restrictive and / or more restrictive restrictions on accessing media content). Therefore, in some embodiments, if the first subset of user accounts includes a "child" user account, a different set of content recommendations are recommended than when the first subset of user accounts does not include a "child" user account.

[0293] The above-mentioned method of recommending content based on content restrictions of user accounts included in the first user account subset provides an efficient way to recommend only content suitable for selected or specified user accounts, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling users to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0294] In some embodiments, the respective user account is associated with a plurality of electronic devices. In some embodiments, the respective user account may optionally opt out of content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated users at one or more respective electronic devices, and opt in to content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated users at one or more second respective electronic devices.

[0295] In some embodiments, based on determining that the electronic device (e.g., 500) is part of a synchronized media and communication session with one or more second electronic devices (e.g., the electronic device is currently part of a session that optionally allows synchronized playback (e.g., streaming) of media content at the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices), the multiple user accounts include one or more user accounts associated with the one or more second electronic devices, and do not include user accounts other than the first user account that are not associated with the one or more second electronic devices, such as, Figure 6SS , the user accounts indicated are only the user accounts included in the synchronous media and communication session and the user accounts currently active at the device 500. For example, when the device is part of a synchronous media and communication session, the user accounts available for inclusion in the content recommendation correspond to the user accounts associated with the device in the synchronous media and communication session (e.g., the user accounts associated with the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices). In some embodiments, the user accounts associated with the synchronous media and communication session (e.g., the user accounts associated with the one or more second electronic devices, and the first user account) are automatically designated as included in the content recommendation. In some embodiments, some of the user accounts automatically designated for inclusion in the content recommendation can be de-designated (or de-selected) by modifying the user account currently designated for inclusion in the content recommendation. In addition, the electronic device is optionally part of a session that allows users of the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices to collaborate / communicate with each other (e.g., talk, text, chat, send messages).

[0296] The above-mentioned method of associating an electronic device with a user account of the device in a synchronized media and communication session provides an efficient way to display content recommendations based on the user account in the synchronized media and communication session, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0297] In some embodiments, based on determining that the electronic device (e.g., 500) is part of a synchronized media and communication session with one or more second electronic devices (e.g., the electronic device is currently part of a session that optionally allows synchronized playback (e.g., streaming) of media content at the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices). In addition, the electronic device is optionally part of a session that allows users of the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices to collaborate / communicate (e.g., talk, text, chat, send messages) with each other, the multiple user accounts include one or more user accounts associated with the one or more second electronic devices, and include multiple user accounts configured on the electronic device, such as if in Figure 6SS, the user account indicated in user interface element 636 is the user account included in the synchronized media and communication session and the user account currently configured on device 500.

[0298] For example, when the electronic device is part of a synchronized media and communication session, the user accounts available for inclusion in content recommendations correspond to the multiple users configured on the electronic device and the user accounts associated with the devices in the synchronized media and communication session. In some embodiments, the user accounts associated with the synchronized media and communication session are automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations, while the user accounts configured on the electronic device are not automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations. In some embodiments, some of the user accounts automatically designated for inclusion in content recommendations can be de-designated (or deselected) by modifying the user accounts currently designated for inclusion in content recommendations. The above-mentioned manner of associating an electronic device with a user account configured on the electronic device and a user account of a device in a synchronized media and communication session provides an efficient manner of displaying content recommendations based on the user accounts in the synchronized media and communication session and the user accounts configured on the electronic device, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and more efficiently.

[0299] In some embodiments, based on determining that the electronic device (e.g., 500) is not part of a synchronized media and communication session (e.g., the electronic device is not part of a session for synchronized playback of media content with one or more second electronic devices), the multiple user accounts include one or more user accounts configured on the electronic device (e.g., 500), including a first user account, such as Figure 6RR 500. For example, when the electronic device is not in a synchronized media and communication session, the user accounts that may be selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations based on a set of selected or designated user accounts include user accounts configured on the electronic device.

[0300] In some embodiments, based on determining that the electronic device (e.g., 500) is part of a synchronized media and communication session with one or more second electronic devices (e.g., the electronic device is currently part of a session that optionally allows synchronized playback (e.g., streaming) of media content at the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices), the multiple user accounts include one or more user accounts associated with the one or more second electronic devices, such as Figure 6SSThose user accounts indicated in the content recommendations because the user accounts are associated with the synchronous media and communication session. For example, when the device is part of a synchronous media and communication session, the user accounts available for inclusion in the content recommendations correspond to the user accounts associated with the device in the synchronous media and communication session (e.g., the user accounts associated with the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices). In some embodiments, the user accounts associated with the synchronous media and communication session (e.g., the user accounts associated with the one or more second electronic devices, and the first user account) are automatically designated as included in the content recommendations. In some embodiments, some of the user accounts automatically designated for inclusion in the content recommendations can be de-designated (or deselected) by modifying the user accounts currently designated for inclusion in the content recommendations. In addition, the electronic device is optionally part of a session that allows users of the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices to collaborate / communicate with each other (e.g., talk, text, chat, message).

[0301] The above-mentioned method of associating an electronic device with a user account configured on the electronic device and a user account of the device in a synchronous media and communication session when the electronic device is in a synchronous media and communication session, and associating the electronic device with a user account configured on the electronic device when the electronic device is not part of a synchronous media and communication session, provides an efficient way to display content recommendations based on the user account currently associated with the electronic device, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling users to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0302] In some embodiments, when a first subset of user accounts among the multiple user accounts associated with the electronic device (e.g., 500) has been selected for inclusion (e.g., in content recommendations based on a selected or specified set of user accounts), the electronic device (e.g., 500) receives, via the one or more input devices (e.g., 510), a first input corresponding to a request to initiate playback of a first media content recommendation among the media content recommendations based on the first user account and the one or more characteristics of the first subset of user accounts. In some embodiments, in response to receiving the first input, the electronic device (e.g., 500) initiates playback of the first media content recommendation, such as the device 500 in response to Figure 6BBB , and play Season 1, Episode 1 of the TV show Z.

[0303] In some embodiments, after receiving the first input, based on determining that the electronic device (e.g., 500) was part of a synchronized media and communication session with one or more second electronic devices when the first input was received, the electronic device (e.g., 500) initiates a process of updating the viewing history of the first user account subset including the first user account to reflect the consumption of the first media content recommendation, such as, Figure 6EEE , device 500 recommends the next episode after Season 1 Episode 1 of TV show Z. For example, because the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices are part of a synchronized media and communication session, the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices synchronously play the first media content recommendation. As the first media content recommendation is played at the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices, the viewing history of the first user account and the first user account subset (e.g., user accounts associated with the electronic device and the one or more second electronic devices) is updated to indicate (e.g., reflect) the consumption of the first media content recommendation. In some embodiments, the electronic device uses the viewing history of one or more corresponding accounts to display media content recommendations (e.g., recommendations based on a set of selected / specified user accounts and content recommendations based only on corresponding user accounts associated with the electronic device). In some embodiments, the corresponding electronic device (e.g., an electronic device or a second electronic device) displays suggested media items in a user interface, and these suggested media items are selected for display in the corresponding user interface based on user actions associated with the suggested media items (e.g., users corresponding to the corresponding user accounts). For example, the user may have partially watched some media items so that they are included in the suggested media items, the user may have collected some media items so that they are included in the suggested media items, the user may have watched previous episodes in a television series so that the current episode / next episode is included in the suggested media items, etc. In some embodiments, when the electronic device determines that the media item is no longer recommended for viewing to the user, the electronic device removes the media item from the suggested media items. For example, the user has completely watched the media item, the media item is no longer available (e.g., the rental has expired), etc. In some embodiments, the suggested media items displayed at one electronic device are different from the suggested media items displayed at a second electronic device (e.g., because the viewing history of the user account associated with the respective electronic devices is different).

[0304] In some embodiments, after receiving the first input, based on determining that the electronic device was not part of a synchronized media and communication session when the first input was received, the electronic device (e.g., 500) initiates a process of updating the viewing history of one or more user accounts in the first user account subset associated with one or more users determined by the electronic device to have been viewing the first media content recommendation to reflect the consumption of the first media content recommendation, such as updating only the viewing history of the one or more users determined by the device 500 to have been viewing the first media content recommendation. Figure 6CCC Alternatively, in some embodiments, if the electronic device is not part of a synchronized media and communication session, only the viewing history of the user account currently active at the electronic device that is playing the first media content recommendation is updated (e.g., the viewing history of other user accounts selected for inclusion in the content recommendation is not updated because those user accounts are not active at the electronic device when the first media content recommendation is being played at the electronic device). In some embodiments, the electronic device determines the user account that is watching the first media content recommendation and updates the viewing history of those user accounts in a manner similar to that described above. For example, when the electronic device is playing the first media content recommendation, the electronic device receives an indication that one or more second electronic devices associated with one or more second electronic devices are within a threshold distance (e.g., 50, 100, 200, 500 feet) of the electronic device. In response, the viewing history associated with the one or more second electronic devices is updated to reflect the consumption of the first media content recommendation. In some embodiments, the electronic device detects the user who is currently watching the first media content recommendation via a camera. In response, the user account associated with the detected user is updated to reflect the consumption of the first media content recommendation.

[0305] The above-mentioned method of updating the viewing history of all users who are part of a synchronized media and communication session and only updating the viewing history of a detected user when the electronic device is not part of a synchronized media and communication session provides an efficient method for updating the viewing history of one or more user accounts viewing the corresponding media items, which also reduces power usage and extends the battery life of the electronic device by enabling the user to use the electronic device more quickly and efficiently.

[0306] In some embodiments, the electronic device automatically selects or specifies (e.g., preselects, pre-specifies) a user account that is selected or specified in a content recommendation (e.g., which is based on a set of selected or specified user accounts). For example, the electronic device detects a user in the same location as the electronic device (e.g., within 10, 15, 25, 50 feet from the electronic device) via a camera, and automatically specifies the user account associated with the detected user for inclusion in the content recommendation. In some embodiments, the electronic device detects that one or more user devices are within a threshold distance of the electronic device (e.g., 30, 60, 90, 200 feet), and automatically specifies the user accounts associated with these electronic devices for inclusion in the content recommendation based on a set of selected or specified user accounts. In some embodiments, the above-mentioned existence determination is additionally or alternatively used to update the viewing history of the user detected by the electronic device. For example, in some embodiments, a first user account, a second user account, and a third user account are currently selected or designated for inclusion in content recommendations, but after playback of the media content recommendation is initiated, only the viewing history of the first user account and the second user account (and not the third user account) is updated because the users corresponding to the first user account and the second user account are detected via a camera (or other detection technology) while the electronic device is playing the corresponding media content recommendation.

[0307] It should be understood that Figure 7 The specific order in which the operations in the description are described is merely exemplary and is not intended to indicate that the described order is the only order in which the operations can be performed. A person skilled in the art will be able to think of many ways to reorder the operations described herein. The operations in the information processing method described above are optionally implemented by running one or more functional modules in an information processing device, such as a general-purpose processor (e.g., as compared to a processor such as a processor). Figure 1A to Figure 1B , Figure 3 , FIG. 5A to FIG. 5C In addition, the above reference Figure 7 The operation is optionally performed by Figure 1A to Figure 1B . When a corresponding predefined event or sub-event is detected, event identifier 180 activates event handler 190 associated with the detection of the event or sub-event. Event handler 190 optionally utilizes or calls data updater 176 or object updater 177 to update the application internal state 192. In some embodiments, event handler 190 accesses the corresponding GUI updater 178 to update the content displayed by the application. Similarly, a person of ordinary skill in the art will clearly know how to update the content displayed by the application based on the GUI. Figure 1A to Figure 1BThe components depicted in the figure implement other processes.
