Description

Background Art

[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to communication systems, and more particularly to wireless communications employing multiple transmit receive point (TRP) operations and single TRP operations.

[0002] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcast. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources. Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, and time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems.

[0003] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different wireless devices to communicate at a city, country, region, or even global level. An example telecommunication standard is 5G New Radio (NR). 5G NR is part of the continued mobile broadband evolution promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to meet new requirements associated with latency, reliability, security, scalability (e.g., with the Internet of Things (IoT)) and other requirements. 5G NR includes services associated with enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communications (mMTC), and ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC). Certain aspects of 5G NR may be based on the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. Further improvements to 5G NR technology are needed. In addition, these improvements may also be applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that employ these technologies. Summary of the invention

[0031] In some aspects, the UE may support single TRP (sTRP) operation or multi-TRP (mTRP) operation. In sTRP operation, the UE communicates with a single TRP. In mTRP operation, the UE may communicate with multiple TRPs.

[0032] In some examples, the communication between the UE and the first TRP and / or the second TRP may be aperiodic communication. In examples where the control message schedules aperiodic communication, the control message may indicate resources (e.g., time resources and / or frequency resources) associated with the aperiodic communication. For example, the control message may include a grant indicating resources allocated to the UE for uplink communication.

[0033] In other examples, the communication may be periodic communication or semi-periodic communication. In examples where the control message schedules periodic communication or semi-periodic communication, the control message may allocate resources to the UE for subsequent communication without an explicit control message. For example, the control message may configure the UE to send a report to the first TRP every N time slots. The control message may also indicate which resources the UE will use for each transmission of the report.

[0034] In aspects where the UE performs a TRP operation mode switch from mTRP operation to sTRP operation, when the UE switches to sTRP operation, resources allocated to the UE for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication when the UE is operating in mTRP may be wasted. For example, resources may be allocated to the UE for use of two beams, but in sTRP operation, the UE may be configured to use resources for one beam, which may result in unused or wasted resources that have been allocated to the UE.

[0035] In other aspects in which the UE performs a TRP operation mode switch from sTRP operation to mTRP operation, resources allocated to the UE for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication when the UE is operating in sTRP may be insufficient to support mTRP operation. For example, the UE may be allocated resources for use of one beam, but in mTRP operation, the UE may be configured to use resources for two beams, which may result in insufficient resources being available for the UE to communicate with both beams.

[0036] The various aspects presented herein may enable a UE to apply a default TCI determination rule when dynamically switching TRP modes, which may help improve beam management and, therefore, communication performance. For example, the various aspects disclosed herein provide a technique for a UE to apply a transmission code indication (TCI) rule that enables the UE to determine which TCI state to use after performing a TRP operating mode switch. In some examples, the UE may determine to use the last activated TCI state associated with the TCI code point. In some examples, the UE may identify a TCI code point associated with the same number of TCI states that the UE used before performing the TRP operating mode switch. In some examples, the UE may determine to use a TCI state indicated by a control resource set (CORESET).

[0037] The detailed description set forth below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings is a description of various configurations and does not represent the only configurations with which the concepts described herein can be practiced. In order to provide a thorough understanding of the various concepts, the specific embodiments include specific details. However, these concepts can be practiced without these specific details. These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or any combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0039] As an example, an element or any part of an element or any combination of elements can be implemented as a "processing system", which includes one or more processors. One or more processors in a processing system can execute software. Whether referred to as software, firmware, middleware, microcode, hardware description language or other terms, software should be broadly interpreted as meaning instructions, instruction sets, codes, code segments, program codes, programs, subroutines, software components, applications, software applications, software packages, routines, subroutines, objects, executables, threads of execution, procedures, functions or any combination thereof.

[0040] Thus, in one or more example aspects, implementations, and / or use cases, the described functionality may be implemented in hardware, software, or any combination thereof. If implemented in software, the functionality may be stored or encoded as one or more instructions or codes on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media include computer storage media. For example, such computer-readable media may include random access memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM), optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage, other magnetic storage devices, combinations of these types of computer-readable media, or any other media that can be used to store computer-executable code in the form of instructions or data structures that can be accessed by a computer.

[0041] Although various aspects, specific implementations and / or use cases are described in this application by the illustration of some examples, additional or different aspects, specific implementations and use cases may be generated in many different arrangements and scenarios. The various aspects, specific implementations and / or use cases described herein can be implemented across many different platform types, devices, systems, shapes, sizes and packaging arrangements. For example, various aspects, specific implementations and / or use cases can be generated via integrated chip specific implementations and other devices based on non-module components (e.g., end-user devices, vehicles, communication equipment, computing equipment, industrial equipment, retail / purchase equipment, medical equipment, artificial intelligence (AI) enabled devices, etc.). Although some examples may or may not be specifically for use cases or applications, the described examples may have a wide range of applicability. Various aspects, specific implementations and / or use cases can be implemented from chip-level or modular components to non-modular, non-chip-level specific implementations, and further to the range of aggregated, distributed or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) devices or systems in conjunction with one or more technologies herein. In some practical environments, the equipment combined with the various aspects and features described may also include additional components and features for implementing and practicing the claimed and described aspects. For example, the transmission and reception of wireless signals necessarily include multiple components for analog and digital purposes (e.g., hardware components including antennas, RF chains, power amplifiers, modulators, buffers, processors, interleavers, adders / summers, etc.) The various techniques described herein can be practiced in a wide variety of devices of various sizes, shapes, and configurations, chip-level components, systems, distributed arrangements, aggregated or disaggregated components, end-user devices, etc.

[0042] The deployment of a communication system (such as a 5G NR system) can be arranged in a variety of ways using various components or constituent parts. In a 5G NR system or network, a network node, a network entity, a mobility element of a network, a radio access network (RAN) node, a core network node, a network element or network equipment (such as a base station (BS)), or one or more units (or one or more components) performing base station functionality can be implemented in an aggregated or decomposed architecture. For example, a BS (such as a Node B (NB), an evolved NB (eNB), an NR BS, a 5G NB, an access point (AP), a transmit receive point (TRP) or a cell, etc.) can be implemented as an aggregated base station (also referred to as an independent BS or a monolithic BS) or a decomposed base station.

[0043] A converged base station may be configured to utilize a radio protocol stack physically or logically integrated within a single RAN node. A decomposed base station may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed between two or more units, such as one or more central or centralized units (CUs), one or more distributed units (DUs), or one or more radio units (RUs). In some aspects, a CU may be implemented within a RAN node, and one or more DUs may be co-located with the CU, or alternatively, may be geographically or virtually distributed in one or more other RAN nodes. A DU may be implemented to communicate with one or more RUs. Each of a CU, a DU, and a RU may be implemented as a virtual unit, i.e., a virtual central unit (VCU), a virtual distributed unit (VDU), or a virtual radio unit (VRU).

[0044] Base station operation or network design may take into account the aggregated nature of base station functionality. For example, a disaggregated base station may be used in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open radio access network (O-RAN (network configuration such as that initiated by the O-RAN Alliance)), or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN, also known as a cloud radio access network (C-RAN)). Decomposition may include distributing functionality across two or more units at various physical locations, as well as virtually distributing functionality of at least one unit, which may enable flexibility in network design. Individual units of a disaggregated base station or disaggregated RAN architecture may be configured for wired or wireless communication with at least one other unit.

[0045] Figure 1 1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication system and an access network 100. The wireless communication system (which is also referred to as a wireless wide area network (WWAN)) includes a base station 102, a UE 104, an evolved packet core (EPC) (e.g., EPC 160), and another core network 190 (e.g., 5G core (5GC)). The base station 102 may include a macro cell (a high-power cellular base station) and / or a small cell (a low-power cellular base station). A macro cell includes a base station. A small cell includes a femto cell, a pico cell, and a micro cell.

[0046] The base station 102 configured for 4G LTE (collectively referred to as the Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN)) can interface with the EPC 160 via a first backhaul link 132 (e.g., an S1 interface). The base station 102 configured for 5G NR (collectively referred to as the Next Generation RAN (NG-RAN)) can interface with the core network 190 via a second backhaul link 184. Among other functions, the base station 102 can perform one or more of the following functions: delivery of user data, radio channel encryption and decryption, integrity protection, header compression, mobility control functions (e.g., handover, dual connectivity), inter-cell interference coordination, connection establishment and release, load balancing, distribution of non-access stratum (NAS) messages, NAS node selection, synchronization, radio access network (RAN) sharing, multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS), subscriber and equipment tracking, RAN information management (RIM), paging, positioning, and delivery of warning messages. The base stations 102 can communicate with each other directly or indirectly (e.g., through the EPC 160 or the core network 190) through the third backhaul link 134 (e.g., X2 interface). The first backhaul link 132, the second backhaul link 184 (e.g., Xn interface) and the third backhaul link 134 can be wired or wireless.

[0047] In some aspects, a base station (e.g., one of base stations 102 or one of base stations 180) may be referred to as a RAN and may include aggregated components or disaggregated components. As an example of a disaggregated RAN, a base station may include a central unit (CU) (e.g., CU 106), one or more distributed units (DUs) (e.g., DU 105), and / or one or more remote units (RUs) (e.g., RU 109), such as Figure 1 As illustrated. The RAN may be decomposed using a split between the RU 109 and the aggregated CU / DU. The RAN may be decomposed using a split between the CU 106, DU 105, and RU 109. The RAN may be decomposed using a split between the CU 106 and the aggregated DU / RU. The CU 106 and one or more DUs may be connected via an F1 interface. The DU 105 and the RU 109 may be connected via a fronthaul interface. The connection between the CU 106 and the DU 105 may be referred to as midhaul, and the connection between the DU 105 and the RU 109 may be referred to as fronthaul. The connection between the CU 106 and the core network 190 may be referred to as backhaul.

[0048] The RAN may be based on a functional split between various components of the RAN (e.g., between the CU 106, DU 105, or RU 109). The CU 106 may be configured to perform one or more aspects of a wireless communication protocol, for example, one or more layers of a protocol stack, and one or more DUs may be configured to handle other aspects of the wireless communication protocol, for example, other layers of the protocol stack. In different implementations, the split between the layers handled by the CU and the layers handled by the DU may occur at different layers of the protocol stack. As a non-limiting example, the DU 105 may provide a logical node for hosting at least a portion of a radio link control (RLC) layer, a medium access control (MAC) layer, and a physical (PHY) layer based on the functional split. The RU may provide a logical node configured to host at least a portion of the PHY layer and radio frequency (RF) processing. The CU 106 may host, for example, higher layer functions above the RLC layer, such as a service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) layer, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer, and / or an upper layer. In other implementations, the split between the layer functions provided by the CU, DU, or RU may be different.

[0049] The access network may include one or more integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes (e.g., IAB node 111) that exchange wireless communications with a UE (e.g., one of UEs 104) or another IAB node to provide access and backhaul to the core network. In an IAB network of multiple IAB nodes, an anchor node may be referred to as an IAB donor. An IAB donor may be a base station (e.g., one of base stations 102 or one of base stations 180) that provides access to a core network 190 or EPC 160 and / or control of one or more IAB nodes in the IAB node 111. The IAB donor may include a CU 106 and a DU 105. The IAB node 111 may include a DU 105 and a mobile terminal (MT). The DU 105 of the IAB node may operate as a parent node, and the MT may operate as a child node.

[0050] As described above, the deployment of a communication system (such as a 5G New Radio (NR) system) can be arranged with various components or constituent parts in a variety of ways.

[0051] A converged base station may be configured to utilize a radio protocol stack physically or logically integrated within a single RAN node. Each of a CU, a DU, and a RU may also be implemented as a virtual unit, i.e., a virtual central unit (VCU), a virtual distributed unit (VDU), or a virtual radio unit (VRU).

[0052] Base station type operations or network designs may take into account the aggregated nature of base station functionality. For example, a disaggregated base station may be used in an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open radio access network (O-RAN (network configurations such as those initiated by the O-RAN Alliance)), or a virtualized radio access network (vRAN, also known as a cloud radio access network (C-RAN)).

[0053] As an example, Figure 2 A diagram illustrating the architecture of an example disaggregated base station 200 is shown. The disaggregated base station 200 architecture may include one or more CUs (e.g., CU 210) that may communicate directly with a core network 220 via a backhaul link, or indirectly with a core network 220 through one or more disaggregated base station units, such as a near real-time (near-RT) RAN intelligent controller (RIC) (e.g., near-RT RIC 225) via an E2 link, or a non-real-time (non-RT) RIC (e.g., non-RT RIC 215) associated with a service management and orchestration (SMO) framework (e.g., SMO framework 205), or both. CU 210 (e.g., near-RT RIC 225) may communicate with a core network 220 via a backhaul link. Figure 1 CU 106) can communicate with one or more DUs (e.g., DU 230) via corresponding mid-haul links such as F1 interfaces. DU 230 (e.g., Figure 1 The DU 105 of the embodiment may communicate with one or more RUs (e.g., RU 240) via corresponding fronthaul links. Figure 1The RU 109) may communicate with a corresponding UE (e.g., Figure 1 In some implementations, a UE may be served by multiple RUs at the same time.

[0054] Each of the units (i.e., CU 210, DU 230, RU 240, and near-RT RIC 225, non-RT RIC 215, and SMO framework 205) may include or be coupled to one or more interfaces configured to receive or send signals, data, or information (collectively, signals) via a wired or wireless transmission medium. Each of the units or an associated processor or controller that provides instructions to the communication interfaces of these units may be configured to communicate with one or more of the other units via a transmission medium. For example, the unit may include a wired interface configured to receive or send signals to one or more of the other units on a wired transmission medium. Additionally, these units may include a wireless interface that may include a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver (such as a radio frequency (RF) transceiver) configured to receive or send signals, or both, to one or more of the other units on a wireless transmission medium.

[0055] In some aspects, CU 210 may host one or more higher layer control functions. Such control functions may include radio resource control (RRC), packet data convergence protocol (PDCP), service data adaptation protocol (SDAP), etc. Each control function may be implemented using an interface that is configured to communicate signals with other control functions hosted by CU 210. CU 210 may be configured to handle user plane functionality (i.e., central unit-user plane (CU-UP)), control plane functionality (i.e., central unit-control plane (CU-CP)), or a combination thereof. In some specific implementations, CU 210 may be logically split into one or more CU-UP units and one or more CU-CP units. When implemented in an O-RAN configuration, the CU-UP unit may communicate bidirectionally with the CU-CP unit via an interface (such as an E1 interface). As needed, CU 210 may be implemented to communicate with DU 230 for network control and signaling.

[0056] DU 230 may correspond to a logical unit that includes one or more base station functions to control the operation of one or more RUs. In some aspects, DU 230 may host one or more of a radio link control (RLC) layer, a medium access control (MAC) layer, and one or more high physical (PHY) layers (such as modules for forward error correction (FEC) encoding and decoding, scrambling, modulation and demodulation, etc.) depending at least in part on functional divisions such as those defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In some aspects, DU 230 may also host one or more low PHY layers. Each layer (or module) may be implemented using an interface that is configured to communicate signals with other layers (and modules) hosted by DU 230 or with control functions hosted by CU210.

[0057] The lower layer functionality may be implemented by one or more RUs. In some deployments, the RU 240 controlled by the DU 230 may correspond to a logical node that hosts RF processing functions or low PHY layer functions (such as performing fast Fourier transform (FFT), inverse FFT (iFFT), digital beamforming, physical random access channel (PRACH) extraction and filtering, etc.) or both based at least in part on functional splitting (such as lower layer functional splitting). In such an architecture, the RU may be implemented to handle over-the-air (OTA) communications with one or more UEs in the UE 104. In some specific implementations, the real-time and non-real-time aspects of the control plane and user plane communications with the RU may be controlled by the corresponding DU. In some scenarios, this configuration may enable the DU and CU 210 to be implemented in a cloud-based RAN architecture (such as a vRAN architecture).

[0058] The SMO framework 205 may be configured to support RAN deployment and provisioning of non-virtualized network elements and virtualized network elements. For non-virtualized network elements, the SMO framework 205 may be configured to support the deployment of dedicated physical resources for RAN coverage requirements, which may be managed via an operation and maintenance interface (such as an O1 interface). For virtualized network elements, the SMO framework 205 may be configured to interact with a cloud computing platform (such as an open cloud 290 (O-Cloud)) to perform network element lifecycle management (such as instantiating virtualized network elements) via a cloud computing platform interface (such as an O2 interface). Such virtualized network elements may include, but are not limited to, CU 210, DU 230, RU 240, and near-RT RIC 225. In some specific implementations, the SMO framework 205 may communicate with hardware aspects of the 4G RAN such as an open eNB (O-eNB) (e.g., O-eNB 211) via the O1 interface. Additionally, in some specific implementations, the SMO framework 205 may communicate directly with one or more RUs via the O1 interface. The SMO framework 205 may also include a non-RT RIC 215 configured to support the functionality of the SMO framework 205 .

[0059] The non-RT RIC 215 may be configured to include logic functions that enable non-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources, artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) workflows including model training and updating, or policy-based guidance of applications / features in the near-RT RIC 225. The non-RT RIC 215 may be coupled to or in communication with the near-RT RIC 225 (such as via an A1 interface). The near-RT RIC 225 may be configured to include logic functions that enable near-real-time control and optimization of RAN elements and resources via data collection and actions through an interface (such as via an E2 interface) that connects one or more CUs, one or more DUs, or both, and the O-eNB with the near-RT RIC 225.

[0060] In some implementations, in order to generate an AI / ML model to be deployed in the near-RT RIC 225, the non-RT RIC 215 may receive parameters or external enrichment information from an external server. Such information may be utilized by the near-RT RIC 225 and may be received from a non-network data source or from a network function at the SMO framework 205 or the non-RT RIC 215. In some examples, the non-RT RIC 215 or the near-RT RIC 225 may be configured to tune RAN behavior or performance. For example, the non-RT RIC 215 may monitor long-term trends and patterns of performance and employ AI / ML models to perform corrective actions through the SMO framework 205 (such as via reconfiguration of O1) or via creation of RAN management policies (such as A1 policies).

[0061] Reference again Figure 1 , the base station 102 can communicate wirelessly with the UE 104. Each base station in the base station 102 can provide communication coverage for a corresponding geographic coverage area (e.g., coverage area 110). There may be overlapping geographic coverage areas. For example, the small cell 102a may have a coverage area 110a that overlaps with the coverage area 110 of one or more base stations (e.g., one or more macro base stations) in the base station 102. A network including both small cells and macro cells may be referred to as a heterogeneous network. The heterogeneous network may also include a home evolved Node B (eNB) (HeNB), which may provide services to a restricted group called a closed subscriber group (CSG). The communication link 120 between the base station 102 and the UE 104 may include an uplink (UL) (also referred to as a reverse link) transmission from the UE to the base station and / or a downlink (DL) (also referred to as a forward link) transmission from the base station to the UE. The communication link 120 may use multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, including spatial multiplexing, beamforming and / or transmit diversity. The communication link may be through one or more carriers. For each carrier allocated in the carrier aggregation for up to Yx MHz (x component carriers) in total for transmission in each direction, the base station 102 / UE 104 can use spectrum with a bandwidth of up to Y MHz (e.g., 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 15 MHz, 20 MHz, 100 MHz, 400 MHz, etc.). The carriers may or may not be adjacent to each other. The allocation of carriers may be asymmetric with respect to DL and UL (e.g., more or fewer carriers may be allocated for DL compared to UL). The component carrier may include a primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers. The primary component carrier may be referred to as a primary cell (PCell) and the secondary component carrier may be referred to as a secondary cell (SCell).

[0062] Some of the UEs 104 may communicate with each other using a device-to-device (D2D) communication link (e.g., D2D communication link 158). The D2D communication link 158 may use DL / UL WWAN spectrum. The D2D communication link 158 may use one or more side link channels, such as a physical side link broadcast channel (PSBCH), a physical side link discovery channel (PSDCH), a physical side link shared channel (PSSCH), and a physical side link control channel (PSCCH). The D2D communication may be performed by a variety of wireless D2D communication systems, such as, for example, WiMedia, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 standard, LTE, or NR.

[0063] The wireless communication system may also include a Wi-Fi access point (AP) 150 that communicates with a Wi-Fi station (STA) (e.g., STA 152) via a communication link 154, e.g., in a 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum, etc. When communicating in an unlicensed spectrum, STA 152 / AP 150 may perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) to determine whether a channel is available prior to communication.

[0064] The small cell 102a may operate in licensed and / or unlicensed spectrum. When operating in an unlicensed spectrum, the small cell 102a may employ NR and use the same unlicensed spectrum (e.g., 5 GHz, etc.) as used by the Wi-Fi AP 150. The small cell 102a employing NR in the unlicensed spectrum may improve coverage and / or increase capacity of the access network.

[0065] The electromagnetic spectrum is typically subdivided into various categories, bands, channels, etc. based on frequency / wavelength. In 5G NR, two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz-7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz-52.6 GHz). Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often (interchangeably) referred to as the "sub-6 GHz" band in various documents and articles. A similar naming issue sometimes occurs with respect to FR2, which is often (interchangeably) referred to as the "millimeter wave" band in documents and articles, although different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) identified as the "millimeter wave" band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

[0066] Frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are generally referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR research has identified the operating bands for these mid-band frequencies as frequency range designation FR3 (7.125GHz–24.25GHz). The bands falling within FR3 can inherit FR1 characteristics and / or FR2 characteristics, and therefore the features of FR1 and / or FR2 can be effectively extended to mid-band frequencies. In addition, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operations to more than 52.6GHz. For example, three higher operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR2-2 (52.6GHz–71GHz), FR4 (71GHz–114.25GHz), and FR5 (114.25GHz–300GHz). Each of these higher frequency bands falls within the EHF band.

[0067] In view of the above, unless otherwise specifically stated, if the term "below 6 GHz" or the like is used in this document, it may broadly refer to frequencies that may be less than 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. In addition, unless otherwise specifically stated, if the term "millimeter wave" or the like is used in this document, it may broadly refer to frequencies that may include mid-band frequencies, may be within FR2, FR4, FR2-2, and / or FR5, or may be within the EHF band.

[0068] A base station, whether a small cell 102a or a large cell (e.g., a macro base station), may include and / or be referred to as an eNB, a gNodeB (gNB), or another type of base station. Some base stations, such as gNBs (e.g., one of the base stations 180), may operate in the traditional sub-6 GHz spectrum, in millimeter wave frequencies, and / or near millimeter wave frequencies to communicate with the UEs 104. When the gNB operates at millimeter wave frequencies or near millimeter wave frequencies, the gNB may be referred to as a millimeter wave base station. The millimeter wave base station may utilize beamforming 182 with one or more of the UEs 104 to compensate for path loss and short range. The base station 180 and the UE 104 may each include multiple antennas (e.g., antenna elements, antenna panels, and / or antenna arrays) to facilitate beamforming.

[0069] The base station 180 may transmit beamformed signals in one or more transmit directions 182' to one or more UEs in the UE 104. The UE may receive the beamformed signals from the base station in one or more receive directions 182". The UE may also transmit beamformed signals to the base station in one or more transmit directions. The base station 180 may receive the beamformed signals from the UE in one or more receive directions. The base station 180 / UE 104 may perform beam training to determine the best receive and transmit directions for each of the base station / UE. The transmit direction and receive direction of the base station may or may not be the same. The transmit direction and receive direction of the UE may or may not be the same.

[0070] The EPC 160 may include a mobility management entity (MME) (e.g., MME 162), other MMEs 164, a serving gateway 166, a multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) gateway (e.g., MBMS gateway 168), a broadcast multicast service center (BM-SC) (e.g., BM-SC 170), and a packet data network (PDN) gateway (e.g., PDN gateway 172). The MME 162 may communicate with a home subscriber server (HSS) (e.g., HSS 174). The MME 162 is a control node that handles signaling between the UE 104 and the EPC 160. In general, the MME 162 provides bearer and connection management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are passed through the serving gateway 166, which itself is connected to the PDN gateway 172. The PDN gateway 172 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. The PDN gateway 172 and the BM-SC 170 are connected to the IP service 176. The IP services 176 may include the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a PS streaming service, and / or other IP services. The BM-SC 170 may provide functionality for MBMS user service configuration and delivery. The BM-SC 170 may serve as an entry point for content provider MBMS transmissions, may be used to authorize and initiate MBMS bearer services in a public land mobile network (PLMN), and may be used to schedule MBMS transmissions. The MBMS gateway 168 may be used to allocate MBMS services to base stations 102 belonging to a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN) area of a broadcast specific service, and may be responsible for session management (start / stop) and for collecting eMBMS-related billing information.

[0071] The core network 190 may include an access and mobility management function (AMF) (e.g., AMF 192), other AMFs 193, a session management function (SMF) (e.g., SMF 194), and a user plane function (UPF) (e.g., UPF 195). AMF 192 may communicate with a unified data management (UDM) (e.g., UDM 196). AMF 192 is a control node that handles signaling between UE 104 and the core network 190. Generally speaking, AMF 192 provides QoS flow and session management. All user Internet Protocol (IP) packets are passed through UPF 195. UPF 195 provides UE IP address allocation and other functions. UPF 195 is connected to IP services 197. IP services 197 may include the Internet, intranet, IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), packet switching (PS) streaming (PSS) services, and / or other IP services.

[0072] A base station may include and / or be referred to as a gNB, a Node B, an eNB, an access point, a base transceiver station, a radio base station, a radio transceiver, a transceiver function, a basic service set (BSS), an extended service set (ESS), a transmit receive point (TRP), or some other suitable term. Base station 102 provides an access point to EPC 160 or core network 190 for UE 104. Examples of UE 104 include a cellular phone, a smart phone, a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phone, a laptop, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a satellite radio, a global positioning system, a multimedia device, a video device, a digital audio player (e.g., an MP3 player), a camera, a game console, a tablet, a smart device, a wearable device, a vehicle, an electric meter, a gas pump, a large or small kitchen appliance, a healthcare device, an implant, a sensor / actuator, a display, or any other similarly functional device. Some of UE 104 may be referred to as IoT devices (e.g., a parking meter, a gas pump, a toaster, a vehicle, a heart monitor, etc.). UE 104 may also be referred to as a station, mobile station, subscriber station, mobile unit, subscriber unit, wireless unit, remote unit, mobile device, wireless device, wireless communication device, remote device, mobile subscriber station, access terminal, mobile terminal, wireless terminal, remote terminal, handset, user agent, mobile client, client, or some other suitable term. In some scenarios, the term UE may also be applied to one or more supporting devices, such as in a device constellation arrangement. One or more of these devices may access a network together and / or individually.

[0073] Reference again Figure 1In certain aspects, a device communicating with a network, such as one of the UEs 104 communicating with a network entity, such as one of the base stations 102 or a component of the base station (e.g., the CU 106, the DU 105, and / or the RU 109), may be configured to manage one or more aspects of wireless communications. For example, one of the UEs 104 may include a TRP switching component 198 configured to facilitate applying a default unified TCI rule to periodic or semi-periodic communications after performing a TRP operation mode switch between mTRP operation and sTRP operation.

[0074] In certain aspects, the TRP switching component 198 may be configured to receive a configuration that configures multiple TCI code points, each TCI code point corresponding to at least one TCI state. The example TRP switching component 198 may also be configured to receive a first indication indicating a first TCI code point. In addition, the example TRP switching component 198 may be configured to communicate a first communication using a first TRP operating mode, the first communication using a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point to communicate, the first TRP operating mode is based on the first TCI code point, the first TRP operating mode includes an sTRP operating mode or an mTRP operating mode. The example TRP switching component 198 may also be configured to receive a switching indication indicating a switch from the first TRP operating mode to a second TRP operating mode different from the first TRP operating mode. In addition, the example TRP switching component 198 may be configured to communicate a second communication based on a second TRP operating mode, the second communication using a second TCI state set indicated by a second TCI code point indicated by the switching indication, a third TCI state set based on a plurality of TCI code points configured, or a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point to communicate.

[0075] In another configuration, a network entity, such as a base station 102 or one of the components of the base station (e.g., CU 106, DU 105, and / or RU 109) may be configured to manage one or more aspects of wireless communication. For example, one of the base stations 102 may include a TCI configuration component 199 configured to facilitate applying a default unified TCI rule to periodic or semi-periodic communications after performing a TRP operation mode switch between mTRP operation and sTRP operation.

[0076] In certain aspects, the TCI configuration component 199 may be configured to configure a plurality of TCI code points for the UE, each TCI code point corresponding to at least one TCI state. The example TCI configuration component 199 may also be configured to output a first indication indicating a first TCI code point. In addition, the example TCI configuration component 199 may be configured to communicate a first communication using a first TRP operation mode, the first communication using a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point to communicate, the first TRP operation mode is based on the first TCI code point, the first TRP operation mode includes an sTRP operation mode or an mTRP operation mode. The example TCI configuration component 199 may also be configured to output a switching indication indicating a switch from the first TRP operation mode to a second TRP operation mode different from the first TRP operation mode. In addition, the example TCI configuration component 199 may be configured to communicate a second communication based on a second TRP operation mode, the second communication using a second TCI state set indicated by a second TCI code point indicated by a switching indication, a third TCI state set based on a plurality of TCI code points, or a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point to communicate.

[0077] The aspects presented in this document may enable the UE to apply default TCI determination rules when dynamically switching TRP modes, which may help improve beam management and, therefore, improve communication performance.

[0078] Although the following description provides examples involving 5G NR, the concepts described herein may be applicable to other similar areas such as LTE, LTE-A, CDMA, GSM, 6G, and / or other wireless technologies.

[0079] Figure 3A FIG300 is a diagram illustrating an example of a first subframe within a 5G NR frame structure. Figure 3B is a diagram 330 illustrating an example of DL channels within a 5G NR subframe. Figure 3C FIG350 is a diagram illustrating an example of a second subframe within a 5G NR frame structure. Figure 3D FIG380 is a diagram illustrating an example of UL channels within a 5G NR subframe. The 5G NR frame structure may be frequency division duplex (FDD), where for a particular set of subcarriers (carrier system bandwidth), subframes within that subcarrier set are dedicated to either DL or UL, or may be time division duplex (TDD), where for a particular set of subcarriers (carrier system bandwidth), subframes within that subcarrier set are dedicated to both DL and UL. Figure 3A , Figure 3CIn the example provided, the 5G NR frame structure is assumed to be TDD, where subframe 4 is configured with slot format 28 (most of which are DL), where D is DL, U is UL, and F is flexible between DL / UL, and subframe 3 is configured with slot format 1 (all of which are UL). Although subframes 3 and 4 are shown as having slot formats 1 and 28, respectively, any particular subframe may be configured with any of the various available slot formats 0-61. Slot formats 0 and 1 are both DL and both UL, respectively. Other slot formats 2-61 include a mix of DL, UL, and flexible symbols. The slot format is configured for the UE via a received slot format indicator (SFI) (dynamically configured via DL control information (DCI) or semi-statically / statically configured via radio resource control (RRC) signaling). Note that the following description also applies to the 5G NR frame structure as TDD.

[0080] FIG. 3A to FIG. 3D The frame structure is illustrated, and various aspects of the present disclosure may be applicable to other wireless communication technologies that may have different frame structures and / or different channels. A frame (10ms) may be divided into 10 subframes of the same size (1ms). Each subframe may include one or more time slots. A subframe may also include a microslot, which may include 7, 4 or 2 symbols. Each time slot may include 14 or 12 symbols, depending on whether the cyclic prefix (CP) is normal or extended. For a normal CP, each time slot may include 14 symbols, and for an extended CP, each time slot may include 12 symbols. The symbol on the DL may be a CP orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) symbol. The symbol on the UL may be a CP-OFDM symbol (for high throughput scenarios) or a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) symbol (also known as a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) symbol) (for power-limited scenarios; limited to single-stream transmission). The number of time slots within a subframe is based on the CP and parameter set. The parameter set defines the subcarrier spacing (SCS) (see Table 1). The symbol length / duration can be scaled with 1 / SCS.

[0081]

[0082] Table 1: Parameter set, SCS and CP

[0083] For normal CP (14 symbols / slot), different parameter sets μ0 to 4 allow 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. For extended CP, parameter set 2 allows 4 slots per subframe. Accordingly, for normal CP and parameter set μ, there are 14 symbols / slot and 2 μ As shown in Table 1, the subcarrier spacing can be equal to 2μ *15kHz, where μ is parameter set 0 to 4. Therefore, the subcarrier spacing for parameter set μ=0 is 15kHz, and the subcarrier spacing for parameter set μ=4 is 240kHz. The symbol length / duration is inversely related to the subcarrier spacing. FIG. 3A to FIG. 3D An example is provided for a normal CP with 14 symbols per slot and a parameter set μ=2 with 4 slots per subframe. The slot duration is 0.25 ms, the subcarrier spacing is 60 kHz, and the symbol duration is about 16.67 μs. Within a frame set, there may be one or more different bandwidth parts (BWPs) that are frequency-division multiplexed (see Figure 3B ). Each BWP may have a specific parameter set and CP (normal or extended).

[0084] A resource grid may be used to represent the frame structure. Each slot includes a resource block (RB) (also referred to as a physical RB (PRB)) extending over 12 consecutive subcarriers. The resource grid is divided into a plurality of resource elements (REs). The number of bits carried by each RE depends on the modulation scheme.

[0085] like Figure 3A As illustrated, some of the REs carry reference (pilot) signals (RS) for the UE. The RS may include a demodulation RS (DM-RS) (indicated as R for a particular configuration, but other DM-RS configurations are possible) and a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) for channel estimation at the UE. The RS may also include a beam measurement RS (BRS), a beam refinement RS (BRRS), and a phase tracking RS (PT-RS).

[0086] Figure 3B Examples of various DL channels within a subframe of a frame are illustrated. The physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) carries DCI within one or more control channel elements (CCEs) (e.g., 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 CCEs), each CCE including six RE groups (REGs), each REG including 12 consecutive REs in an OFDM symbol of an RB. The PDCCH within one BWP may be referred to as a control resource set (CORESET). The UE is configured to monitor PDCCH candidates in a PDCCH search space (e.g., a common search space, a UE-specific search space) during a PDCCH monitoring opportunity on the CORESET, where the PDCCH candidates have different DCI formats and different aggregation levels. Additional BWPs may be located at higher and / or lower frequencies on the channel bandwidth. The primary synchronization signal (PSS) may be within symbol 2 of a specific subframe of a frame. The PSS is transmitted by the UE (e.g., Figure 1The physical broadcast channel (PBCH) carrying the master information block (MIB) can be logically grouped with the PSS and SSS to form a synchronization signal (SS) / PBCH block (also referred to as an SS block (SSB)). The MIB provides the system frame number (SFN) and the number of RBs in the system bandwidth. The physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) carries user data, broadcast system information such as system information blocks (SIBs) that are not sent via the PBCH, and paging messages.

[0087] like Figure 3C As illustrated, some of the REs carry DM-RS (indicated as R for a particular configuration, but other DM-RS configurations are possible) for channel estimation at the base station. The UE may send the DM-RS of the physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) and the DM-RS of the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH). The PUSCH DM-RS may be sent in the first or first two symbols of the PUSCH. Depending on whether a short PUCCH or a long PUCCH is sent and depending on the specific PUCCH format used, the PUCCH DM-RS may be sent in different configurations. The UE may send a sounding reference signal (SRS). The SRS may be sent in the last symbol of a subframe. The SRS may have a comb structure, and the UE may send the SRS on one of the comb structures in the comb structure. The SRS may be used by the base station for channel quality estimation to achieve frequency-dependent scheduling of the UL.

[0088] Figure 3D Examples of various UL channels within a subframe of a frame are illustrated. The PUCCH may be located at a position as indicated in one configuration. The PUCCH carries uplink control information (UCI), such as scheduling requests, channel quality indicators (CQI), precoding matrix indicators (PMI), rank indicators (RI), and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) acknowledgement (ACK) (HARQ-ACK) feedback (i.e., one or more HARQ ACK bits indicating one or more ACKs and / or negative ACKs (NACKs)). The PUSCH carries data and may additionally be used to carry a buffer status report (BSR), a power headroom report (PHR), and / or UCI.

[0089] Figure 4 is a block diagram illustrating an example of a first wireless device configured to exchange wireless communications with a second wireless device. Figure 4 In the illustrated example of , the first wireless device may include a base station 410, the second wireless device may include a UE 450, and the base station 410 may communicate with the UE 450 in an access network. Figure 4 As shown, base station 410 includes a transmit processor (TX processor 416), a transmitter 418Tx, a receiver 418Rx, an antenna 420, a receive processor (RX processor 470), a channel estimator 474, a controller / processor 475, and a memory 476. Example UE 450 includes antenna 452, a transmitter 454Tx, a receiver 454Rx, an RX processor 456, a channel estimator 458, a controller / processor 459, a memory 460, and a TX processor 468. In other examples, base station 410 and / or UE 450 may include additional or alternative components.

[0090] In the DL, Internet Protocol (IP) packets may be provided to the controller / processor 475. The controller / processor 475 implements layer 3 and layer 2 functions. Layer 3 includes a radio resource control (RRC) layer, and layer 2 includes a service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) layer, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer, a radio link control (RLC) layer, and a medium access control (MAC) layer. The controller / processor 475 provides RRC layer functions associated with broadcasting of system information (e.g., MIB, SIB), RRC connection control (e.g., RRC connection paging, RRC connection establishment, RRC connection modification, and RRC connection release), inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility, and measurement configuration for UE measurement reporting; PDCP layer functions associated with header compression / decompression, security (encryption, decryption, integrity protection, integrity verification), and handover support functions; RLC layer functions associated with delivery of upper layer packet data units (PDUs), error correction through ARQ, concatenation, segmentation and reassembly of RLC service data units (SDUs), re-segmentation of RLC data PDUs, and reordering of RLC data PDUs; and MAC layer functions associated with mapping between logical channels and transport channels, multiplexing of MAC SDUs onto transport blocks (TBs), demultiplexing of MAC SDUs from TBs, scheduling information reporting, error correction through HARQ, priority handling, and logical channel prioritization.

[0091] The TX processor 416 and the RX processor 470 implement layer 1 functions associated with various signal processing functions. Layer 1 (which includes the physical (PHY) layer) may include error detection on the transmission channel, forward error correction (FEC) decoding / decoding of the transmission channel, interleaving, rate matching, mapping to the physical channel, modulation / demodulation of the physical channel, and MIMO antenna processing. The TX processor 416 processes the mapping to the signal constellation based on various modulation schemes (e.g., binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), M-order phase shift keying (M-PSK), M-order quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM)). The decoded and modulated symbols can then be divided into parallel streams. Subsequently, each stream can be mapped to an OFDM subcarrier, multiplexed with a reference signal (e.g., a pilot) in the time domain and / or frequency domain, and then combined using an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) to generate a physical channel carrying a time domain OFDM symbol stream. The OFDM stream is spatially precoded to generate multiple spatial streams. Channel estimates from channel estimator 474 may be used to determine coding and modulation schemes and for spatial processing. Channel estimates may be derived based on a reference signal and / or channel condition feedback sent by UE 450. Each spatial stream may then be provided to a different one of antennas 420 via a separate transmitter (e.g., transmitter 418Tx). Each transmitter 418Tx may modulate a radio frequency (RF) carrier with a corresponding spatial stream for transmission.

[0092] At the UE 450, each receiver 454Rx receives a signal through its corresponding antenna in the antenna 452. Each receiver 454Rx recovers the information modulated onto the RF carrier and provides the information to the RX processor 456. The TX processor 468 and the RX processor 456 implement layer 1 functions associated with various signal processing functions. The RX processor 456 can perform spatial processing on the information to recover any spatial stream to the UE 450. In the case where multiple spatial streams are to the UE 450, two or more of the multiple spatial streams can be combined into a single OFDM symbol stream by the RX processor 456. The RX processor 456 then converts the OFDM symbol stream from the time domain to the frequency domain using a fast Fourier transform (FFT). The frequency domain signal includes a separate OFDM symbol stream for each subcarrier of the OFDM signal. The symbol on each subcarrier and the reference signal are recovered and demodulated by determining the most likely signal constellation point sent by the base station 410. These soft decisions can be based on the channel estimate calculated by the channel estimator 458. The soft decisions are then decoded and deinterleaved to recover the data and control signals originally sent on the physical channel by base station 410. The data and control signals are then provided to controller / processor 459, which implements layer 3 and layer 2 functions.

[0093] The controller / processor 459 may be associated with a memory 460 that stores program codes and data. The memory 460 may be referred to as a computer readable medium. In the UL, the controller / processor 459 provides demultiplexing between transport channels and logical channels, packet reassembly, decryption, header decompression, and control signal processing to recover IP packets. The controller / processor 459 is also responsible for error detection using ACK and / or NACK protocols to support HARQ operations.

[0094] Similar to the functions described in conjunction with DL transmissions performed by the base station 410, the controller / processor 459 provides RRC layer functions associated with system information (e.g., MIB, SIB) acquisition, RRC connection, and measurement reporting; PDCP layer functions associated with header compression / decompression and security (encryption, decryption, integrity protection, integrity verification); RLC layer functionality associated with delivery of upper layer PDUs, error correction through ARQ, concatenation, segmentation and reassembly of RLC SDUs, resegmentation of RLC data PDUs, and reordering of RLC data PDUs; and MAC layer functions associated with mapping between logical channels and transport channels, multiplexing of MAC SDUs onto TBs, demultiplexing of MAC SDUs from TBs, scheduling information reporting, error correction through HARQ, priority handling, and logical channel prioritization.

[0095] Channel estimates derived by the channel estimator 458 from a reference signal or feedback sent by the base station 410 may be used by the TX processor 468 to select the appropriate coding and modulation schemes and to facilitate spatial processing. The spatial streams generated by the TX processor 468 may be provided to different ones of the antennas 452 via separate transmitters (e.g., transmitter 454Tx). Each transmitter 454Tx may modulate an RF carrier with a corresponding spatial stream for transmission.

[0096] UL transmissions are processed at the base station 410 in a manner similar to that described in conjunction with the receiver functionality at the UE 450. Each receiver 418Rx receives a signal through its corresponding one of the antennas 420. Each receiver 418Rx recovers information modulated onto an RF carrier and provides the information to the RX processor 470.

[0097] The controller / processor 475 may be associated with a memory 476 that stores program codes and data. The memory 476 may be referred to as a computer readable medium. In the UL, the controller / processor 475 provides demultiplexing between transport channels and logical channels, packet reassembly, decryption, header decompression, control signal processing to recover IP packets. The controller / processor 475 is also responsible for error detection using ACK and / or NACK protocols to support HARQ operations.

[0098] In some aspects, the UE may support single TRP (sTRP) operation or multi-TRP (mTRP) operation. In sTRP operation, the UE communicates with a single TRP. In mTRP operation, the UE may communicate with multiple TRPs.

[0099] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication system 500 employing a UE 504, a first TRP 502 ("TRP A"), and a second TRP 503 ("TRP B") as presented herein. Figure 5 In the illustrated example of , the first TRP 502 can output (e.g., send) a first communication 506 received by the UE 504. The second TRP 503 can output a second communication 508 received by the UE 504.

[0100] exist Figure 5 In the illustrated example of , the UE 504 may use the first TCI state 510 to receive the first communication 506. For example, the UE 504 may use the first TCI state 510 to determine the beam to receive the first communication 506. The first TCI state 510 may be associated with a first TRP (e.g., the first TRP 502). In some examples, the first TCI state 510 may be associated with a first quasi-co-location (QCL) parameter set.

[0101] exist Figure 5 In the illustrated example of , the UE 504 may use the second TCI state 512 to receive the second communication 508. For example, the UE 504 may use the second TCI state 512 to determine the beam to receive the second communication 508. The second TCI state 512 may be associated with a second TRP (e.g., the second TRP 503). In some examples, the second TCI state 512 may be associated with a second QCL parameter set.

[0102] Figure 6 As presented herein, the Figure 5 An example of mTRP operation support is sent. Figure 6 In the example, combined with Figure 5 The wireless communication system 500 depicts different transmission types. For example, Figure 6 Illustrated examples include Figure 5 The first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512.

[0103] exist Figure 6In the illustrated example, the first scenario 600 illustrates an example of spatial division multiplexing (SDM) of TRPs. For example, the first TRP 502 and the second TRP 503 can use different spatial layers in overlapping resource blocks / symbols and transmit using different TCI states (e.g., the first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512).

[0104] Figure 6 The second scenario 610 illustrates an example of frequency division multiplexing (FDM) of TRPs. For example, the first TRP 502 and the second TRP 503 can be transmitted using different resource blocks and using different TCI states (e.g., the first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512). As shown in the second scenario 610, the different resource blocks associated with each TCI state can overlap in the time domain.

[0105] Figure 6 The third scenario 620 of the embodiment illustrates an example of time division multiplexing (TDM) of TRPs. For example, the first TRP 502 and the second TRP 503 can be transmitted using different symbols (e.g., in different time resources) and using different TCI states (e.g., the first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512). As shown in the third scenario 620, the different resource blocks associated with each TCI state are non-overlapping in the time domain.

[0106] In some examples, different repetitions may be sent within a time slot and / or different repetitions may be in different time slots. Figure 6 The fourth scenario 630 of the embodiment illustrates an example of DCI repetition of a TRP. For example, the first TCI state 510 may be associated with the first CORESET, and the second TCI state 512 may be associated with the second CORESET. In the example of the fourth scenario 630, the DCI may be sent via the first resource of the first CORESET associated with the first TCI state 510. The DCI may also be repeated via the second resource of the second CORESET associated with the second TCI state 512.

[0107] Figure 6 The fifth scenario 640 of the embodiment illustrates an example of uplink communication (e.g., PUCCH / PUSCH) repetition. For example, the UE 504 may repeat the uplink communication via the first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512. In the example of the fifth scenario 640, the UE 504 may employ TDM for uplink communication repetition. For example, the first TCI state 510 and the second TCI state 512 are associated with corresponding resource blocks that do not overlap in the time domain.

[0108] Figure 6The sixth scenario 650 illustrates an example of a single frequency network (SFN) downlink communication (e.g., SFN PDCCH and / or SFN PDSCH). For example, in some aspects, a UE may move at a high rate and communicate with a group of TRPs. In these cases, the group of TRPs may transmit the same information (e.g., control information and / or data) to the UE. Such communications may be referred to as SFN downlink communications. In the example of the sixth scenario 650, the first TRP 502 and the second TRP 503 may employ SDM for SFN downlink communications.

[0109] Figure 7 An example communication flow 700 between a first TRP 702, a second TRP 703, and a UE 704 as presented herein is illustrated. One or more aspects described for the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703 may be performed by a component of a base station or a network entity, such as a CU, DU, and / or RU. Various aspects of the first UE 702 and / or the second UE 703 may be performed by Figure 1 Base station 102 and / or Figure 4 Various aspects of UE 704 may be implemented by one of the base stations 410. Figure 1 UE 104 and / or Figure 4 Although in Figure 4 Not shown in the illustrated example, it will be appreciated that in additional or alternative examples, the first TRP 702, the second TRP 703 and / or the UE 704 may communicate with one or more other base stations or UEs.

[0110] although Figure 7 The examples described in the foregoing illustrate a first TRP 702 providing configuration and control messages to a UE 704, but they are for illustrative purposes only. Various aspects presented herein may also be applied to a second TRP 703 providing configuration and / or control messages to a UE 704. Furthermore, the numbers associated with the communication flows do not specify a particular time order, but rather serve as a numerical reference to the communication flow.

[0111] exist Figure 7 In the illustrated example of , when the TRP operation mode of UE 704 is dynamically switched, the communication flow 700 facilitates UE 704 to apply TCI determination rules to determine the TCI state to be used for communication. For example, UE 704 may be operating in sTRP operation mode and then receive a control message that may configure UE 704 to operate in mTRP operation mode, or vice versa. In some aspects where UE 704 communicates after performing a TRP operation mode switch, there may be scenarios where there is ambiguity as to which TCI state UE 704 will use to communicate.

[0112] Various aspects disclosed herein provide techniques for UE 704 to apply a unified TCI rule that enables UE 704 to determine which TCI state to use after performing a TRP operating mode switch. In some examples, UE 704 may determine to use the last activated TCI state associated with the TCI code point. In some examples, UE 704 may identify a TCI code point associated with the same number of TCI states used by UE 704 before performing a TRP operating mode switch. In some examples, UE 704 may determine to use the TCI state indicated by CORESET.

[0113] exist Figure 7 In the illustrated example of , the first TRP 702 may send (e.g., output) a configuration 710 that is received (e.g., obtained) by the UE 704. The UE 704 may receive the configuration 710 via RRC signaling, a MAC control element (MAC-CE), and / or a DCI. In some examples, the configuration 710 may configure a plurality of CORESETs. Each of the CORESETs may be mapped to one or more TCI states. In some examples, the configuration 710 may configure a plurality of TCI code points at the UE 704. Each of the TCI code points may be mapped to one or more TCI states.

[0114] Figure 8 An example mapping 800 between TCI code points 810 and TCI states 830 as presented herein is illustrated. For example, each TCI code point of TCI code points 810 is mapped to a set of TCI states. Figure 8 In the examples of , each TCI state set includes one TCI state or two TCI states. However, other examples may include an additional or alternative number of TCI states in the set of TCI sets.

[0115] exist Figure 8 In the illustrated example of , a first TCI code point 812 ("0") maps to a first TCI set 832 that includes a single TCI state ("TCI-0"). Similarly, a second TCI code point 814 ("1") maps to a second TCI set 834 that includes a single TCI state ("TCI-1"). A third TCI code point 816 ("3") maps to a third TCI set 836 that includes a single TCI state ("TCI-3").

[0116] like Figure 8As shown, the fourth TCI code point 818 ("7"), the fifth TCI code point 820 ("8"), and the sixth TCI code point 822 ("9") are each mapped to a set of two corresponding TCI states. For example, the fourth TCI code point 818 is mapped to a fourth TCI set 838 including two TCI states ("TCI-1" and "TCI-0"). Similarly, the fifth TCI code point 820 is mapped to a fifth TCI set 840 including two TCI states ("TCI-1" and "TCI-2"). The sixth TCI code point 822 is mapped to a sixth TCI set 842 including two TCI states ("TCI-1" and "TCI-3").

[0117] See again Figure 7 In an example, the first TRP 702 sends a first control message 712 received by the UE 704. The first control message 712 may include the DCI received by the UE 704. The first control message 712 may schedule communications with the UE 704. For example, the first control message 712 may indicate resources for the UE 704 to receive downlink communications from the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703. In other examples, the first control message 712 may indicate resources for the UE 704 to send uplink communications to the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703.

[0118] like Figure 7 As shown, the first control message 712 may include a first TCI code point 714. The first TCI code point 714 may include a TCI code point configured at the UE 704 via the configuration 710. The UE 704 may then perform a TCI state determination procedure 716 to determine a first TCI state for communication (e.g., for communication based on the first control message 712). For example, the TCI state determination procedure 716 may use the configuration 710 to map the first TCI code point 714 to a TCI state set. For example, and with reference to Figure 8 800, the UE 704 may map the first TCI code point 812 to the first TCI set 832, may map the second TCI code point 814 to the second TCI set 834, may map the third TCI code point 816 to the third TCI set 836, and so on.

[0119] See again Figure 7 In the example of, UE 704 may communicate a first communication 718 with the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703. UE 704 may communicate the first communication 718 using a beam based on the determined TCI state.

[0120] like Figure 7As shown, the first TRP 702 may send a switching indicator 720 that is received by the UE 704. The switching indicator 720 may configure the UE 704 to perform a switch from the mTRP mode of operation to the sTRP mode of operation, such as in conjunction with Fig. 9 In some examples, the switching indicator 720 may configure the UE 704 to perform a switch from the sTRP mode of operation to the mTRP mode of operation, such as in conjunction with Fig.10 The switching indicator 720 may include RRC configuration signaling, MAC-CE indication, and / or DCI indication. In some examples, the switching indicator 720 may be implicit signaling, such as a TCI indication DCI indicating a different number of TCI states, where a single TCI in a TCI code point is indicated for sTRP operation and multiple TCIs in a TCI code point are indicated for mTRP operation.

[0121] exist Figure 7 In the illustrated example of , the first TRP 702 may send a second control message 722 that is received by the UE 704. The second control message 722 may include the DCI received by the UE 704. The second control message 722 may schedule communications with the UE 704, such as a second communication 728. For example, the second control message 722 may indicate resources for the UE 704 to use for receiving downlink communications from the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703. In other examples, the second control message 722 may indicate resources for the UE 704 to use for sending uplink communications to the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703.

[0122] like Figure 7 As shown, the second control message 722 may include a second TCI code point 724. Similar to the first TCI code point 714, the second TCI code point 724 may include a TCI code point configured at the UE 704 via the configuration 710.

[0123] UE 704 can then perform TCI state determination procedure 726 to determine the second TCI state based on the default unified TCI rule, for example, after performing TRP operation mode switching. UE 704 can use the second TCI state to communicate a second communication 728 with the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703.

[0124] although Figure 7The example of the switching indicator 720 and the second control message 722 are illustrated as separate signaling, but in other examples, the switching indicator 720 and the second control message 722 may be included in the same signaling. In some aspects, the second TCI code point 724 may indicate that the UE 704 is to perform a TRP operation mode switch. For example, the first TCI code point 714 may be mapped to a single TCI state (e.g., a first TCI set 832, a second TCI set 834, a third TCI set 836, etc.), and the UE 704 is configured to operate in the sTRP operation mode, and the second TCI code point 724 may be mapped to two TCI states (e.g., a fourth TCI set 838, a fifth TCI set 840, a sixth TCI set 842, etc.) and the UE 704 is configured to operate in the mTRP operation mode. In other examples, the first TCI code point 714 may be mapped to two TCI states (e.g., a fourth TCI set 838, a fifth TCI set 840, a sixth TCI set 842, etc.) and the UE 704 is configured to operate in the mTRP operating mode, and the second TCI code point 724 may be mapped to a single TCI state (e.g., a first TCI set 832, a second TCI set 834, a third TCI set 836, etc.) and the UE 704 is configured to operate in the sTRP operating mode.

[0125] In some examples, the communication between the UE 704 and the first TRP 702 and / or the second TRP 703 can be aperiodic communication. For example, the first control message 712 can schedule the first communication 718, and / or the second control message 722 can schedule the second communication 728. In examples where the control message schedules aperiodic communication, the control message can indicate resources (e.g., time resources and / or frequency resources) associated with the aperiodic communication. For example, the control message can include a grant indicating resources allocated to the UE 704 for uplink communication.

[0126] In other examples, the communication may be periodic communication or semi-periodic communication. In examples where the control message schedules periodic communication or semi-periodic communication, the control message may allocate resources for the UE 704 for subsequent communication without an explicit control message. For example, the control message may configure the UE 704 to send a report to the first TRP 702 every N time slots. The control message may also indicate which resources the UE 704 will use for each transmission of the report.

[0127] In aspects where UE 704 performs a TRP operation mode switch, when UE 704 switches to sTRP operation, resources allocated to UE 704 for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication when UE 704 is operating in mTRP may be wasted. For example, UE 704 may be allocated resources for using two beams, but in sTRP operation, UE 704 may be configured to use resources for one beam, which may result in unused or wasted resources that have been allocated to UE 704.

[0128] In other aspects in which the UE 704 performs a TRP operation mode switch from sTRP operation to mTRP operation, resources allocated to the UE 704 for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication when the UE 704 is operating in sTRP may be insufficient to support mTRP operation. For example, the UE 704 may be allocated resources for use of one beam, but in mTRP operation, the UE 704 may be configured to use resources for two beams, which may result in insufficient resources being available for the UE 704 to communicate with both beams.

[0129] In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communications may include single frequency network (SFN) transmissions in which multiple TRPs transmit the same data to the UE. In some such examples, periodic or semi-periodic communications may be based on a SFN CORESET configured to use two TCI states mapped to two TRPs (such as a first TRP 702 and a second TRP 703).

[0130] In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communications may include semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) activated via a SFN PDSCH configured to use two TCI states mapped to two TRPs (such as a first TRP 702 and a second TRP 703).

[0131] In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communications may include SPS activated with two TCIs for SDM, FDM, or TDM based on a single DCI for mTRP operation. For example, downlink communications such as PDSCH may be sent by multiple TRPs and scheduled by a single DCI.

[0132] In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communications may include PUCCH resources configured to use two TCI states mapped to two TRPs (such as a first TRP 702 and a second TRP 703).

[0133] In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communication may include a grant of type-1 or type-2 configuration configured or activated with two SRS resource indicators (SRIs). The two SRIs may correspond to two SRS resource sets mapped to two TCI states. In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communication may include a PUSCH with TDM repetitions. In some examples, periodic or semi-periodic communication may include SDM transmissions.

[0134] Fig. 9 900 is a diagram illustrating an example sequence when switching from mTRP operation to sTRP operation as presented herein. Fig. 9 In the example of , the UE may be configured to communicate using beams based on the TCI state. The TCI state may be indicated via a TCI code point, such as Figure 8 Example TCI code point 810.

[0135] exist Fig. 9 In the illustrated example of , the UE receives a first TCI indication 910 at time T1. The UE may receive the first TCI indication 910 via DCI. Fig. 9 In the example of , the first TCI indication 910 is mapped to two TCI states (“TCI-1” and “TCI-2”). Therefore, the UE may be configured to operate in mTRP after receiving the first TCI indication 910.

[0136] like Fig. 9 As shown, the UE may receive a second TCI indication 912 at time T5. The UE may receive the second TCI indication 912 via DCI. Fig. 9 In the example of , the second TCI indication 912 is mapped to a single TCI state (“TCI-3”). Therefore, the UE can be configured to operate in sTRP after receiving the second TCI indication 912.

[0137] In some examples, the second TCI indication 912 may facilitate configuring the UE to perform a TRP operation mode switch from mTRP to sTRP. In other examples, the UE may receive control signaling, such as Figure 7 The switching indicator 720 is provided to enable the UE to perform a TRP operation mode switch from mTRP to sTRP.

[0138] exist Fig. 9In the illustrated example of FIG. 900 , diagram 900 includes a first sequence 920 associated with aperiodic communication. For example, at time T2, the UE may communicate a first communication 922 using a beam based on two TCI states (e.g., TCI-1 state 904 and TCI-2 state 906) indicated by a first TCI indication 910. For example, the UE may use a first beam based on the TCI-1 state 904 and a second beam based on the TCI-2 state 906. In a similar manner, the UE may communicate a second communication 924 at time T3 and a third communication 926 at time T4. The UE may communicate the second communication 924 and the third communication 926 using the same beam as the UE used to communicate the first communication 922. For example, the UE may use a first beam based on the TCI-1 state 904 and a second beam based on the TCI-2 state 906.

[0139] exist Fig. 9 In the example of , after performing a switch from mTRP operation to sTRP operation (eg, after receiving the second TCI indication 912), the UE may send a fourth communication 928 at time T6 and a fifth communication 930 at time T7. Fig. 9 In the example first sequence 920, the UE may communicate a fourth communication 928 and a fifth communication 930 using a third beam based on a TCI state (eg, TCI-3 state 908) indicated by a second TCI indication 912.

[0140] exist Fig. 9 In the example first sequence 920, the first sequence 920 includes non-periodic communications that can be scheduled by different dynamic grants. For example, the first dynamic grant 921 can schedule the first communication 922, the second dynamic grant 923 can schedule the second communication 924, the third dynamic grant 925 can schedule the third communication 926, the fourth dynamic grant 927 can schedule the fourth communication 928, and the fifth dynamic grant 929 can schedule the fifth communication 930. Therefore, resources can be provided or allocated to the UE by the fourth dynamic grant 927 and the fifth dynamic grant 929 to convey the fourth communication 928 and the fifth communication 930, respectively, and therefore there are no unused resources associated with switching the mTRP operation to the sTRP operation.

[0141] exist Fig. 9In the illustrated example, diagram 900 includes a second sequence 940 and a third sequence 960, each associated with a periodic communication or a semi-periodic communication. Referring to the second sequence 940, at time T2, the UE may communicate a first communication 942 using a beam based on two TCI states (e.g., a TCI-1 state 904 and a TCI-2 state 906) indicated by a first TCI indication 910. For example, the UE may use a first beam based on the TCI-1 state 904, and use a second beam based on the TCI-2 state 906. In a similar manner, the UE may communicate a second communication 944 at time T3 and a third communication 946 at time T4. The UE may communicate the second communication 944 and the third communication 946 using the same beam as the UE used to communicate the first communication 942. Fig. 9 In the example, after performing a switch from mTRP operation to sTRP operation (eg, after receiving a second TCI indication 912), the UE may send a fourth communication 948 at time T6 and a fifth communication 950 at time T7.

[0142] Referring to the third sequence 960, the UE may send a first communication 962 at time T2, a second communication 964 at time T3, and a third communication 966 at time T4. The UE may use the same beam to send the first communication 962, the second communication 964, and the third communication 966. For example, the UE may use a beam based on the TCI-1 state 904 and the TCI-2 state 906, as indicated by the first TCI indication 910. Fig. 9 In the example, after performing a switch from mTRP operation to sTRP operation (eg, after receiving a second TCI indication 912), the UE may send a fourth communication 968 at time T6 and a fifth communication 970 at time T7.

[0143] like Fig. 9 As shown, when switching from mTRP to sTRP for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication, the UE can continue to use two TCI states to facilitate the fourth communication and the fifth communication. The UE can continue to use two TCI states because when operating in mTRP, the UE is allocated resources for the two TCI states. In such a scenario, switching to a single TCI state for sending the fourth communication and the fifth communication may result in unused resources that have been allocated to the UE.

[0144] exist Fig. 9In the example second sequence 940, the UE may apply the first default unified TCI rule to determine which beams are used to send the fourth communication 948 and the fifth communication 950. For example, the first default unified TCI rule may include using the two most recently activated TCI states in the TCI code point. That is, the UE may continue to use the last two activated TCI states included in the TCI code point. Fig. 9 In the illustrated example, the UE may continue to communicate the fourth communication 948 and the fifth communication 950 using the TCI-1 state 904 and the TCI-2 state 906 .

[0145] exist Fig. 9 In the example third sequence 960 of FIG. 1 , the UE may apply a second default unified TCI rule to determine which beams are used to send the fourth communication 968 and the fifth communication 970. For example, the second default unified TCI rule may include using two TCI states mapped to a TCI code point having a lowest identifier (ID) among all TCI code points including the two TCI states. That is, the UE may identify which TCI code points of the plurality of TCI code points are mapped to the two TCI states. The UE may then select the two TCI states corresponding to the TCI code points having the lowest IDs.

[0146] For example, and see Figure 8 In the example mapping 800, the UE can identify the TCI code point with the lowest ID mapped to the two TCI states. Figure 8 In the example of , the UE may determine that the fourth TCI code point 818 is a TCI code point with the lowest ID ("7") mapped to two TCI states (eg, a fourth TCI set 838 including a TCI-0 state and a TCI-1 state). Fig. 9 As shown, the UE may communicate a fourth communication 968 and a fifth communication 970 using two beams based on the TCI-0 state 902 and the TCI-1 state 904 .

[0147] In the example second sequence 940 and the third sequence 960, the UE continues to use two beams based on two TCI states when communicating periodic or semi-periodic communications associated with the fourth communication and the fifth communication. It can be understood that by continuing to use two beams based on two TCI states, when the UE operates in the mTRP, the UE can continue to use the resources allocated for periodic or semi-periodic communications.

[0148] Fig.10 FIG. 1000 is a diagram illustrating an example sequence when switching from sTRP operation to mTRP operation as presented herein. Fig.10 In the example of , the UE may be configured to communicate using beams based on the TCI state. The TCI state may be indicated via a TCI code point, such as Figure 8Example TCI code point 810.

[0149] exist Fig.10 In the illustrated example of , the UE receives a first TCI indication 1010 at time T1. The UE may receive the first TCI indication 1010 via DCI. Fig.10 In the example of , the first TCI indication 1010 is mapped to a single TCI state (“TCI-3”). Therefore, the UE may be configured to operate in mTRP after receiving the first TCI indication 1010.

[0150] like Fig.10 As shown, the UE may receive a second TCI indication 1012 at time T5. The UE may receive the second TCI indication 1012 via DCI. Fig.10 In the example of , the second TCI indication 1012 is mapped to two TCI states ("TCI-1" and "TCI-2"). Therefore, the UE can be configured to operate in mTRP after receiving the second TCI indication 1012.

[0151] In some examples, the second TCI indication 1012 may facilitate configuring the UE to perform a TRP operation mode switch from sTRP to mTRP. In other examples, the UE may receive control signaling, such as Figure 7 The switching indicator 720 is provided to enable the UE to perform a TRP operation mode switch from sTRP to mTRP.

[0152] exist Fig.10 , diagram 1000 includes a first sequence 1020 associated with aperiodic communication. For example, the UE may communicate a first communication 1022 at time T2, may communicate a second communication 1024 at time T3, and may communicate a third communication 1026 at time T4. The UE may use the same beam to communicate the first communication 1022, the second communication 1024, and the third communication 1026. For example, the UE may use a beam based on a single TCI state (e.g., TCI-3 state 1008) indicated by the first TCI indication 1010.

[0153] exist Fig.10 In the example of , after performing a switch from sTRP operation to mTRP operation (eg, after receiving the second TCI indication 1012), the UE may send a fourth communication 1028 at time T6 and a fifth communication 1030 at time T7. Fig.10In the example first sequence 1020, the UE may use a beam based on a TCI state (e.g., TCI-1 state 1004 and TCI-2 state 1006) indicated by the second TCI indication 1012. For example, the UE may use a first beam based on the TCI-1 state 1004 and may use a second beam based on the TCI-2 state 1006.

[0154] exist Fig.10 In the example first sequence 1020, the first sequence 1020 includes non-periodic communications that can be scheduled by different dynamic grants. For example, the first dynamic grant 1021 can schedule the first communication 1022, the second dynamic grant 1023 can schedule the second communication 1024, the third dynamic grant 1025 can schedule the third communication 1026, the fourth dynamic grant 1027 can schedule the fourth communication 1028, and the fifth dynamic grant 1029 can schedule the fifth communication 1030. Therefore, resources can be provided or allocated to the UE by the fourth dynamic grant 1027 and the fifth dynamic grant 1029 to convey the fourth communication 1028 and the fifth communication 1030, respectively, and therefore there are no unused resources associated with switching the sTRP operation to the mTRP operation.

[0155] exist Fig.10 In the illustrated example, diagram 1000 includes a second sequence 1040 and a third sequence 1060, each associated with a periodic communication or a semi-periodic communication. Referring to the second sequence 1040, at time T2, the UE may communicate a first communication 1042 using a beam based on a single TCI state (e.g., TCI-3 state 1008) indicated by the first TCI indication 1010. For example, the UE may use the first beam based on the TCI-3 state 1008. In a similar manner, the UE may communicate a second communication 1044 at time T3 and a third communication 1046 at time T4. The UE may communicate the second communication 1044 and the third communication 1046 using the same beam as the UE used to communicate the first communication 1042. Fig.10 In the example, after performing a switch from sTRP operation to mTRP operation (eg, after receiving the second TCI indication 1012), the UE may send a fourth communication 1048 at time T6 and a fifth communication 1050 at time T7.

[0156] Referring to the third sequence 1060, the UE may send a first communication 1062 at time T2, a second communication 1064 at time T3, and a third communication 1066 at time T4. The UE may use the same beam to send the first communication 1062, the second communication 1064, and the third communication 1066. For example, the UE may use the first beam based on the TCI-3 state 1008, as indicated by the first TCI indication 1010. Fig.10In the example, after performing a switch from sTRP operation to mTRP operation (eg, after receiving the second TCI indication 1012), the UE may send a fourth communication 1068 at time T6 and a fifth communication 1070 at time T7.

[0157] like Fig.10 As shown, when switching from sTRP to mTRP for periodic communication or semi-periodic communication, the UE can continue to use a single TCI to facilitate the fourth communication and the fifth communication. The UE can continue to use a single TCI state because when operating in sTRP, the UE is allocated resources for one TCI state. In such a scenario, the UE may not have resources available to send the fourth communication and the fifth communication using multiple TCI states.

[0158] exist Fig.10 In the example second sequence 1040, the UE may apply the first default unified TCI rule to determine which beam to use for sending the fourth communication 1048 and the fifth communication 1050. For example, the first default unified TCI rule may include using the most recently activated TCI state in the TCI code point. That is, the UE may continue to use the last single activated TCI state included in the TCI code point. Fig.10 In the illustrated example, the UE may continue to communicate the fourth communication 1048 and the fifth communication 1050 using the TCI-3 state 1008 .

[0159] exist Fig.10 In the example third sequence 1060 of FIG. 1060, the UE may apply a second default unified TCI rule to determine which beams are used to send the fourth communication 1068 and the fifth communication 1070. For example, the second default unified TCI rule may include using a TCI state mapped to a TCI code point with the lowest ID among all TCI code points including the single TCI state. That is, the UE may identify which TCI code points of the multiple TCI code points map to a TCI state. The UE may then select a single TCI state corresponding to the TCI code point with the lowest ID.

[0160] For example, and see Figure 8 In the example mapping 800, the UE can identify the TCI code point with the lowest ID that is mapped to a single TCI state. Figure 8 In the example of , the UE may determine that the first TCI code point 812 is a TCI code point with the lowest ID ("0") mapped to a single TCI state (eg, a first TCI set 832 including a TCI-0 state). Fig.10 As shown, the UE may communicate the fourth communication 1068 and the fifth communication 1070 using a single beam based on the TCI-0 state 1002 .

[0161] In some examples, the UE may apply a third default unified TCI rule to determine which beam to use for sending the fourth communication 1068 and the fifth communication 1070. For example, the third default unified TCI rule may include using the CORESET with the lowest ID with a single activated unified TCI. For example, the UE may be configured with multiple CORESETs, each of which is mapped to one or more TCI states. In such examples, the UE may be configured to identify the CORESET with the lowest ID that is mapped to a single TCI state.

[0162] In the example second sequence 1040 and the third sequence 1060, the UE continues to use a single beam based on a single TCI state when communicating periodic or semi-periodic communications associated with the fourth communication and the fifth communication. It can be understood that by continuing to use a single beam based on a single TCI state, the UE can continue to use resources allocated for periodic or semi-periodic communications when the UE operates in the sTRP.

[0163] Fig.11 1100 is a flow chart of a method of wireless communication. The method may be performed by a UE (e.g., UE 104 and / or Fig.12 The method may facilitate applying a default unified TCI rule to periodic or semi-periodic communication after performing a TRP operation mode switch between mTRP operation and sTRP operation.

[0164] At 1102, the UE receives a configuration for configuring a plurality of TCI code points, each TCI code point corresponding to at least one TCI state, such as in combination with Figure 7 For example, 1102 may be configured as follows: Fig.12 The cellular RF transceiver 1222 / TRP switching component 198 of the device 1204 is executed.

[0165] At 1104, the UE receives a first indication indicating a first TCI code point, such as in conjunction with Figure 7 The first TCI code point 714 and the first control message 712 are described. For example, 1104 can be composed of Fig.12 The cellular RF transceiver 1222 / TRP switching component 198 of the device 1204 is executed.

[0166] At 1106, the UE communicates a first communication using a first TRP operation mode, the first communication being communicated using a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point, the first TRP operation mode being based on the first TCI code point, the first TRP operation mode comprising an sTRP operation mode or an mTRP operation mode, such as in combination with at least Figure 7 The first communication 718 is described. For example, 1106 can be Fig.12The cellular RF transceiver 1222 / TRP switching component 198 of the device 1204 is executed.

[0167] At 1108, the UE receives a switching indication indicating a switch from a first TRP operation mode to a second TRP operation mode different from the first TRP operation mode, such as at least in conjunction with Figure 7 For example, 1108 may be represented by Fig.12 The cellular RF transceiver 1222 / TRP switching component 198 of the device 1204 is executed.

[0168] At 1110, the UE communicates a second communication based on the second TRP operation mode, the second communication being communicated using a second TCI state set indicated by a second TCI code point indicated by the switching indication, a third TCI state set based on a configured plurality of TCI code points, or a first TCI state set indicated by a first TCI code point, as combined with Figure 7 The second communication 728 is described. For example, 1110 can be Fig.12 The cellular RF transceiver 1222 / TRP switching component 198 of the device 1204 is executed.

[0169] In some examples, the first TRP operating mode may include an mTRP operating mode, the second TRP operating mode may include an sTRP operating mode, and the first TCI state set may include two TCI states, such as a combination of Fig. 9 An example sequence is described below.

[0170] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a non-periodic opportunity, the second TCI code point may correspond to a single TCI state, and the second communication may be communicated using a single TCI state in the second TCI state set, such as in conjunction with Fig. 9 The first sequence 920 is described.

[0171] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a periodic or semi-periodic timing, such as in conjunction with Fig. 9 In some such examples, the UE may identify a target TCI code point from among the plurality of TCI code points that maps to two TCI states, as described in conjunction with the second default unified TCI rule of the third sequence 960. The second communication may be communicated using two TCI states corresponding to the target TCI code point.

[0172] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a periodic opportunity or a semi-periodic opportunity, and the second communication may be communicated using two TCI states in the first TCI state set, such as in combination with Fig. 9 The first default unified TCI rule of the second sequence 940 is described.

[0173] In some examples, the first TRP operating mode includes an sTRP operating mode, the second TRP operating mode includes an mTRP operating mode, and the first TCI state set includes a single TCI state, such as a combination of Fig.10 An example sequence is described below.

[0174] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a non-periodic opportunity, the second TCI code point may correspond to two TCI states, and the second communication may be communicated using two TCI states in the second TCI state set, such as in conjunction with Fig.10 The first sequence 1020 is described.

[0175] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a periodic opportunity or a semi-periodic opportunity, as described in conjunction with the second sequence 1040 and the third sequence 1060. In some such examples, the UE may identify a target TCI code point from among the multiple TCI code points that maps to a single TCI state, as described in conjunction with Fig.10 The second communication may be communicated using a single TCI state corresponding to the target TCI code point.

[0176] In some examples, the second communication may be associated with a periodic opportunity or a semi-periodic opportunity, and the second communication may be communicated using a single TCI state in the first TCI state set, such as in conjunction with Fig.10 The first default unified TCI rule and the second sequence 1040 are described.

[0177] In some examples, the UE may receive a CORESET configuration that includes multiple CORESETs mapped to corresponding TCI state sets, such as in conjunction with Figure 7 The UE may also identify a target CORESET in the plurality of CORESETs that is mapped to a single activated TCI state, and communicate a third communication using the single activated TCI state corresponding to the target CORESET, as described in conjunction with Fig.10 The Third Default Uniform TCI Rules and Third Sequence 1060 are described herein.
