[0002] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0003] This patent application claims priority to Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent application No. PCT / CN2019 / 098530, entitled “TECHNIQUES FOR USING AFIRST SUBSCRIPTION OF A USER EQUIPMENT TO PERFORM IDLE MODE OPERATIONS FOR ASECOND SUBSCRIPTION OF THE USER EQUIPMENT,” filed on July 31, 2019, and assigned to the assignee of this application. The disclosure of the prior application is considered a part of and incorporated by reference into this patent application. Technical Field

[0004]

[0011] Generally speaking, aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and to techniques and apparatus for utilizing a first subscription of a user equipment to perform idle mode operations for a second subscription of the user equipment. Background Art

[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasts. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a collection of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

[0006] A wireless communication network may include multiple base stations (BSs) that may support communications for multiple user equipment (UEs). User equipment (UEs) may communicate with a base station (BS) via downlinks and uplinks. A downlink (or forward link) refers to the communication link from the BS to the UE, and an uplink (or reverse link) refers to the communication link from the UE to the BS. As will be described in greater detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a Node B, gNB, access point (AP), radio head, transmit receive point (TRP), new radio (NR) BS, 5G Node B, etc.

[0007] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted by various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user equipment to communicate at the municipal, national, regional, and even global levels. New Radio (NR) (which may also be referred to as 5G) is a collection of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). NR is designed to better integrate with other open standards by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) with a cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), and using CP-OFDM and / or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL), as well as supporting beamforming, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation to better support mobile broadband network access. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, there is a need for further improvements in LTE and NR technologies. Preferably, these improvements should be applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that adopt these technologies. Summary of the Invention

For example, a device can be implemented or a method can be implemented using any number of aspects set forth herein. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such devices or methods implemented using other structures, functions, or structures and functions in addition to or different from the various aspects of the disclosure set forth herein. It should be understood that any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements in the claims.

[0102] Several aspects of telecommunications systems will now be described with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by means of various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively, "elements"). These elements can be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0103] It should be noted that although various aspects may be described herein using terminology commonly associated with 3G and / or 4G wireless technologies, various aspects of the present disclosure may be applicable to other generation-based communication systems, such as 5G and beyond, including NR technology.

[0104] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating a wireless network 100 in which various aspects of the present disclosure may be implemented. The wireless network 100 may be an LTE network or another wireless network, such as a 5G network or an NR network. The wireless network 100 may include multiple BSs 110 (shown as BS110a, BS110b, BS110c, and BS110d) and other network entities. A BS is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as a base station, NR BS, Node B, gNB, 5G Node B (NB), access point, transmit receive point (TRP), etc. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to the coverage area of a BS and / or a BS subsystem serving that coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.

[0105] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with a service subscription. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with a service subscription. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a residence) and may allow restricted access by UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 110a may be a macro BS for macrocell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS for picocell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS for femtocell 102c. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms "eNB," "base station," "NRBS," "gNB," "TRP," "AP," "Node B," "5G NB," and "cell" may be used interchangeably herein.

[0106] In some aspects, cells may not necessarily be stationary, and the geographic area of a cell may move depending on the location of a mobile BS. In some aspects, BSs may be interconnected to each other and / or to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in wireless network 100 via various types of backhaul interfaces (e.g., direct physical connections, virtual networks, etc.) using any suitable transport network.

[0107] The wireless network 100 may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive transmissions of data from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and send transmissions of data to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that can relay transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown, a relay station 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay station may also be referred to as a relay BS, a relay base station, a relay, or the like.

[0108] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs (e.g., macro BSs, pico BSs, femto BSs, relay BSs, etc.). These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different impacts on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 watts to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a low transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 watts to 2 watts).

[0109] The network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other directly or indirectly, for example, via a wireless backhaul or a wired backhaul.

[0110] UEs 120 (e.g., UE 120a, UE 120b, UE 120c) may be dispersed throughout wireless network 100, and each UE may be stationary or mobile. A UE may also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, subscriber unit, station, etc. A UE may be a cellular phone (e.g., a smartphone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet computer, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or medical equipment, a biometric sensor / device, a wearable device (e.g., a smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, a smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., a smart ring, a smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music device or video device, or a satellite radio unit), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium. In some aspects, UE 120 may be a multi-SIM UE including two or more SIM cards.

[0111] Some UEs may be considered to be machine type communication (MTC) UEs or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC UEs and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors, location tags, etc., which may communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. For example, a wireless node may provide connectivity to or to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) via a wired communication link or a wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered to be Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered to be customer premises equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included in a housing that houses components of UE 120 (e.g., a processor component, a memory component, etc.).

[0112] In general, any number of wireless networks may be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network may support a specific radio access technology (RAT) and may operate on one or more frequencies. RAT may also be referred to as a radio technology, air interface, etc. Frequency may also be referred to as a carrier, frequency channel, etc. Each frequency may support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks may be deployed.

[0113] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly using one or more sidelink channels (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary to communicate with each other). For example, the UEs 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocols (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocols, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocols, etc.), mesh networks, etc. In this case, the UEs 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by the base station 110.

[0114] As indicated above, Figure 1 is provided as an example. Other examples may be Figure 1 The examples described are different.

[0115] Figure 2 A block diagram shows a design 200 of a base station 110 and a UE 120, where base station 110 and UE 120 may be Figure 1 One of the base stations in the Figure 1Base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where in general T ≥ 1 and R ≥ 1.

[0116] At the base station 110, a transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from a data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) the data for each UE based at least in part on the MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling, etc.), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). If applicable, a transmit (TX) multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols, and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MODs) 232a through 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and upconvert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 232a through 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a through 234t, respectively. In accordance with various aspects described in greater detail below, synchronization signals may be generated using position coding to convey additional information.

[0117] At UE 120, antennas 252a through 252r may receive downlink signals from base station 110 and / or other base stations and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a through 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a through 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols (if applicable), and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for UE 120 to a data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to a controller / processor 280. The channel processor may determine reference signal received power (RSRP), received signal strength indicator (RSSI), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), channel quality indicator (CQI), etc. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in a housing.

[0118] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, CQI, etc.) from the controller / processor 280. The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266 (if applicable), further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM, CP-OFDM, etc.), and transmitted to the base station 110. At the base station 110, uplink signals from the UE 120 and other UEs may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the demodulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to the data sink 239 and the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240. The base station 110 may include a communication unit 244 and transmit to the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292.

[0119] The controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or Figure 2Any other components in the base station 110 may perform one or more techniques associated with using the first subscription of the user equipment to perform idle mode operation for the second subscription of the user equipment, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. For example, the controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any other component in may perform or direct e.g. Figure 8 800 and / or other processes as described herein. Memory 242 and memory 282 may store data and program codes for base station 110 and UE 120, respectively. In some aspects, memory 242 and / or memory 282 may include a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing one or more instructions for wireless communication. For example, the one or more instructions, when executed by one or more processors of base station 110 and / or one or more processors of UE 120, may perform or direct, for example, Figure 8 The operations of process 800 in FIG. 8 and / or operations of other processes described herein may be performed. A scheduler 246 may schedule UEs for data transmission on the downlink and / or uplink.

[0120] In some aspects, UE 120 may include: means for determining that a first subscription of the apparatus and a second subscription of the apparatus are associated with the same cell and are being used for the same radio access technology (RAT); means for activating a proxy subscription mode for the first subscription based at least in part on the determination that the first subscription of the apparatus and the second subscription of the apparatus are associated with the same cell and are being used for the same RAT, wherein the proxy subscription mode enables the apparatus to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription using the first subscription while the second subscription is in idle mode, and the like. In some aspects, such means may include in conjunction with Figure 2 One or more components of UE 120 are depicted, such as controller / processor 280, transmit processor 264, TX MIMO processor 266, MOD 254, antenna 252, DEMOD 254, MIMO detector 256, receive processor 258, and so forth.

[0121] As indicated above, Figure 2 This is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 2 The examples described are different.

[0122] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating an example 300 of the operation of a Multiple Subscriber Identity Module (Multi-SIM) UE in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure.

[0123] like Figure 3As shown, UE 120 may be a multi-SIM UE that includes multiple SIMs (e.g., two or more SIMs), shown as a first SIM 305a and a second SIM 305b. First SIM 305a may be associated with a first subscription (shown as SUB 1), and second SIM 305b may be associated with a second subscription (shown as SUB 2). A "subscription" may refer to a subscription with a network operator (e.g., a mobile network operator (MNO)) that allows UE 120 to access a wireless network (e.g., a radio access network (RAN)) associated with the network operator. SIM 305 may be a removable SIM (e.g., a SIM card) or an embedded SIM. SIM 305 may include an integrated circuit that securely stores an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and security keys, which are used to identify and authenticate the corresponding subscription associated with SIM 305. In some cases, SIM 305 may store a list of services that UE 120 is permitted to access using the subscription associated with SIM 305, such as data services, voice services, etc.

[0124] like Figure 3 As further shown, the UE 120 can use the first SIM 305a to communicate with the first base station 310a via the first cell 315a (shown as cell 1) (e.g., in connected mode or idle mode). In this case, the first subscription (SUB 1) of the UE 120 can be used to access the first cell 315a (e.g., using the first IMSI for UE identification, using the first security key for UE authentication, using the first service list that the UE 120 is allowed to access using the first subscription, by counting data and / or voice usage on the first cell based on the first subscription, etc.). Similarly, the UE 120 can use the second SIM 305b to communicate with the second base station 310b via the second cell 315b (shown as cell 2) (e.g., in connected mode or idle mode). In this case, the second subscription (SUB 2) of the UE 120 can be used to access the second cell 315b (e.g., using the second IMSI for UE identification, using the second security key for UE authentication, using a second list of services that the UE 120 is allowed to access using the second subscription, by counting data and / or voice usage on the second cell based on the second subscription, etc.). The first base station 310a and / or the second base station 310b may include the above-mentioned combination of Figure 1 One or more base stations 110 are depicted.

[0125] In some cases, UE 120 may be a single radio (SR) multi-SIM UE, such as a single radio dual SIM dual standby (SR-DSDS) UE. A multi-SIM UE may be able to switch between two separate mobile network services, may include hardware for maintaining multiple connections (e.g., one connection per SIM) in a standby state, may include hardware for maintaining multiple network connections simultaneously (e.g., multiple transceivers, etc.), etc. However, due to sharing radio frequency resources between multiple subscriptions, an SR-DSDS UE may only be able to receive data on one connection at a time. This may degrade the performance of UE 120.

[0126] For example, as shown at 320, if a first subscription using SIM 1 is in connected mode and sending or receiving data, and a second subscription using SIM 2 is in idle mode, UE 120 may periodically tune away from the first subscription (e.g., may tune away from cell 1) to perform idle mode operations using the second subscription (e.g., may tune to cell 2). For example, UE 120 may tune to cell 2 to monitor for paging messages (sometimes referred to as paging) and / or to perform other idle mode operations for the second subscription. As shown at 325, UE 120 operating using SR-DSDS cannot communicate using the first subscription while tuned to cell 2 associated with the second subscription. As a result, UE 120 may operate with lower throughput, higher latency, lower reliability, etc. for the first subscription. In addition, tuning between different cells may increase power consumption of UE 120 and / or reduce battery life of UE 120. In some cases, if the first subscription is connected to a voice call on the first cell, UE 120 may avoid tuning away to the second cell, which may cause UE 120 to miss paging messages (eg, pages) for the second subscription.

[0127] In some cases, the first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with the same network operator (e.g., the same MNO). In these cases, the UE 120 may utilize the active protocol stack of one subscription to perform idle mode operations for the other subscription (e.g., if the connections of both SIMs are associated with the same cell and / or use the same RAT). Operating in this scenario, some techniques and apparatuses described herein may increase throughput, reduce latency, increase reliability, reduce power consumption, extend battery life, and / or otherwise improve the performance of the UE 120 by allowing the UE 120 to utilize the first subscription to perform idle mode operations for the second subscription.

[0128] As shown at 330, if a first subscription using SIM 1 is in idle mode and a second subscription using SIM 2 is also in idle mode, UE 120 may independently perform idle mode operations for the first and second subscriptions. For example, UE 120 may tune to a first cell to monitor for paging for the first subscription and may tune to a second cell to monitor for paging for the second subscription. In this case, if the paging occasions of the first cell and the second cell overlap in time, UE 120 may miss paging for one of the subscriptions if it tunes to the cell of the other subscription. Furthermore, tuning between different cells for idle mode operations, such as paging monitoring, may increase power consumption and / or reduce battery life of UE 120. Furthermore, if UE 120 independently performs idle mode operations for different subscriptions, UE 120 may duplicate some idle mode operations (e.g., one or more measurements, decoding of system information, cell reselection procedures, etc.), which may increase power consumption and / or reduce battery life of UE 120.

[0129] As described above, in some cases, the first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with the same network operator. In these cases, the UE 120 may utilize the active protocol stack of one subscription to perform idle mode operations for the other subscription (e.g., if the connections of the two SIMs are associated with the same cell and / or use the same RAT). Operating in this scenario, some techniques and apparatuses described herein may reduce power consumption of the UE 120 and / or increase battery life of the UE 120 by allowing the UE 120 to perform idle mode operations for the second subscription using the first subscription. In addition, when the UE 120 performs idle mode operations for the second subscription using the first subscription, the UE 120 may receive pages that the UE 120 would have missed if pages on different subscriptions had conflicted.

[0130] As indicated above, Figure 3 is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 3 The examples described are different.

[0131] Figure 4 is a diagram illustrating an example 400 of using a first subscription of a UE to perform idle mode operation for a second subscription of the UE in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure.

[0132] like Figure 4 As shown, a multi-SIM UE such as an SR-DSDS UE (e.g., UE 120) may include a first SIM 305a and a second SIM 305b, as shown above in conjunction with Figure 3The first SIM 305a may be associated with a first subscription (shown as SUB1), and the second SIM 305b may be associated with a second subscription (shown as SUB2), as described above in conjunction with Figure 3 described.

[0133] like Figure 4 As further shown, both the first SIM 305a and the second SIM 305b of the UE 120 may be associated with a connection to the same cell, shown as the first cell 315a (e.g., cell 1). For example, the UE 120 may communicate with the first base station 310a via the first cell 315a using the first SIM 305a (e.g., in a connected mode or an idle mode), and may communicate with the first base station 310a via the first cell 315a using the second SIM 305b (e.g., in a connected mode or an idle mode). In this case, the first subscription of the UE 120 can be used to access the first cell 315a (e.g., using the first IMSI for UE identification, using the first security key for UE authentication, using the first service list that the UE 120 is allowed to access using the first subscription, by counting data and / or voice usage on the first cell based on the first subscription for communications using the first subscription, etc.), and the second subscription of the UE 120 can also be used to access the first cell 315a (e.g., using the second IMSI for UE identification, using the second security key for UE authentication, using the second service list that the UE 120 is allowed to access using the second subscription, by counting data and / or voice usage on the first cell based on the second subscription for communications using the second subscription, etc.).

[0134] As indicated by reference numeral 405, UE 120 may determine that a first subscription of UE 120 and a second subscription of UE 120 are associated with the same cell and are being used for the same RAT. For example, UE 120 may determine that the first subscription and the second subscription are being used for respective connections to the same cell. In some aspects, based at least in part on determining that the first subscription and the second subscription are associated with the same cell, UE 120 may determine that the first subscription and the second subscription are associated with the same network operator and / or are being used for the same RAT. For example, because the first subscription and the second subscription are used for connections to the same cell, in some aspects, the first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with the same network operator and / or the same RAT.

[0135] Alternatively, the first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with different network operators, and UE 120 may be roaming on a cell (e.g., the same cell) for at least one of the first subscription or the second subscription. For example, in some aspects, the first subscription is associated with a first home network of a first network operator, and the cell is associated with the first home network, while the second subscription is associated with a second home network of a second network operator, and UE 120 is roaming on the cell for the second subscription. In some aspects, UE 120 may be roaming on the same cell for both the first subscription and the second subscription. Additionally or alternatively, the first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with different network operators that share a radio access network on the same cell. In some aspects, the RAT is an LTE RAT (e.g., one or both SIMs may be associated with LTE standalone mode or NR non-standalone mode (with an LTE cell as the primary cell)). In some aspects, the RAT is an NR RAT (e.g., one or both SIMs may be associated with NR standalone mode).

[0136] In some aspects, if UE 120 determines that a first subscription and a second subscription are associated with the same cell, UE 120 may establish a connection for both subscriptions using the same RAT. In this case, if the subscriptions are using different RATs, UE 120 may switch the RAT being used for one of the subscriptions to match the other subscription. For example, UE 120 may switch a subscription using an NR RAT to using an LTE RAT (e.g., by switching from an NR standalone RAT to an NR non-standalone RAT and / or LTE RAT) such that both subscriptions use the LTE RAT. Additionally or alternatively, if UE 120 determines that the first subscription and the second subscription are associated with the same network operator (and / or associated with different network operators and roaming and / or RAN sharing is possible on at least one of the subscriptions using the same cell), UE 120 may connect both subscriptions via the same cell. For example, if the subscriptions are using different cells, UE 120 may reselect a cell for one of the subscriptions such that both subscriptions use the same cell.

[0137] As indicated by reference numeral 410, UE 120 may activate a proxy subscription mode based at least in part on a determination that a first subscription of the UE and a second subscription of the UE are associated with the same cell and the same RAT. The proxy subscription mode may enable UE 120 to use one of the subscriptions (e.g., one of the first subscription or the second subscription) to perform one or more idle mode operations for the other subscription (e.g., the other of the first subscription or the second subscription) while the other subscription is in idle mode. For example, if UE 120 activates the proxy subscription mode (wherein the first subscription is activated as a proxy for the second subscription), the proxy subscription mode enables UE 120 to use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription while the second subscription is in idle mode.

[0138] In some aspects, the UE 120 may identify the subscription to be activated as a proxy subscription for another subscription. For example, the UE 120 may select a subscription that is in connected mode (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) connected mode) to act as a proxy for a different subscription that is in idle mode (e.g., RRC idle mode). In example 400, if a first subscription is in connected mode and a second subscription is in idle mode, the UE 120 may activate proxy subscription mode for the first subscription. Thus, the UE 120 may activate proxy subscription mode for the first subscription based at least in part on a determination that the first subscription is in connected mode and the second subscription is in idle mode. As used herein, activating proxy subscription mode for a first subscription may refer to selecting the first subscription to act as a proxy subscription for the second subscription by performing one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription while the second subscription is in idle mode.

[0139] As another example, the UE 120 may select a subscription associated with a data service (e.g., a subscription that includes a data service, a subscription that has a SIM with data services stored in a service list, etc.) to act as a proxy for a different subscription that is not associated with a data service (e.g., a voice-only subscription, a subscription that does not include a data service, a subscription that does not have a SIM with data services stored in a service list, etc.). In example 400, if a first subscription is associated with a data service and a second subscription is not associated with a data service, the UE 120 may activate a proxy subscription mode for the first subscription. Thus, the UE 120 may activate the proxy subscription mode for the first subscription based at least in part on a determination that the first subscription is associated with a data service and the second subscription is not associated with a data service.

[0140] As shown at reference numeral 415, based at least in part on activating the proxy subscription mode for the first subscription, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription. The proxy subscription mode may include, for example, a proxy paging demodulation mode, a proxy idle mobility mode, etc., as described in more detail elsewhere herein. Figure 5 and Figure 6 Examples of one or more idle mode operations that may be performed by a first subscription for a second subscription are described in greater detail.

[0141] By using the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription, UE 120 may increase throughput, reduce latency, increase reliability, reduce power consumption, extend battery life, and / or otherwise improve performance of UE 120. Additionally, UE 120 may reduce the likelihood of missed pages.

[0142] As indicated above, Figure 4 is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 4 The examples described are different.

[0143] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating another example 500 of using a first subscription of a UE to perform idle mode operation for a second subscription of the UE in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure. Figure 5 1 shows example idle mode operations that may be performed by UE 120 using a first subscription (SUB1) acting as a proxy subscription for a second subscription (SUB2) when proxy subscription mode is activated for the first subscription. In some aspects, when both the first subscription and the second subscription are associated with idle mode (e.g., RRC idle mode), the combined Figure 5 Describes the idle mode operation.

[0144] As shown at 505, when the first subscription acts as a proxy subscription for the second subscription, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription. As shown at 510, when the first subscription acts as a proxy subscription for the second subscription, the UE 120 may avoid using the second subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations (indicated using strikethrough text). For example, the UE 120 may avoid using the second subscription to perform one or more idle operations that were performed using the first subscription, thereby conserving resources of the UE 120 (e.g., processing power, memory, battery charge, etc.).

[0145] As shown by reference numeral 515, the proxy subscription mode may include, for example, a proxy paging demodulation mode, a proxy idle mobility mode, and the like. As shown, in the proxy paging demodulation mode, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform paging demodulation for the second subscription. As further shown, in the proxy idle mobility mode, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mobility operations associated with the second subscription, such as one or more measurements (e.g., serving cell measurements, intra-frequency measurements, inter-frequency measurements, inter-RAT measurements, etc.), cell reselection procedures, system information updates, and the like.

[0146] As shown by reference numeral 520, UE 120 can use the first subscription to demodulate one or more pages for the second subscription. Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 can avoid using the second subscription to demodulate pages. For example, UE 120 can identify one or more paging occasions configured for the second subscription (e.g., based on a configuration such as an RRC configuration). UE 120 can use the first subscription to monitor paging occasions rather than switching to the second subscription to monitor paging occasions, thereby saving UE resources that would otherwise be used when switching between subscriptions. Thus, UE 120 can use the first subscription to monitor a first set of paging occasions configured for the first subscription, and to monitor a second set of paging occasions configured for the second subscription. In some aspects, UE 120 can use the protocol stack of the first subscription to schedule paging modulation in paging occasions for both the first subscription and the second subscription.

[0147] As shown in reference numeral 525, UE 120 can use the first subscription to perform one or more measurements for the second subscription. Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 can avoid using the second subscription to schedule and / or perform measurements. For example, UE 120 can use measurements performed using the first subscription to perform one or more measurement-related operations for the second subscription. Since the first subscription and the second subscription are associated with the same network operator (and / or on the same cell), such measurements can be used for both the first subscription and the second subscription. As shown, the one or more measurements may include serving cell measurements (e.g., reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements), neighboring cell measurements (e.g., intra-frequency neighboring cell measurements, inter-frequency neighboring cell measurements, and inter-RAT (IRAT) measurements), etc.

[0148] In some aspects, if the UE 120 changes the cell priority associated with the first subscription while the proxy subscription mode is activated (e.g., due to one or more measurements performed using the first subscription, due to an RRC message, due to an RRC reconfiguration, etc.), the UE 120 may update the cell priority associated with the second subscription to match the cell priority of the first subscription. For example, if the UE 120 modifies a first cell priority list stored by the UE 120 for the first subscription, the UE 120 may modify a second cell priority list stored by the UE 120 for the second subscription to match the first cell priority list. Additionally or alternatively, when the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may use the same cell priority list for the first subscription and the second subscription. In this manner, the first subscription and the second subscription may remain camped on the same cell in idle mode, which allows the UE 120 to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription using the first subscription.

[0149] As indicated by reference numeral 530, in some aspects, if the UE 120 selects a new serving cell for the first subscription (e.g., using a cell selection process, a cell reselection process, etc.) while the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may also select a new serving cell for the second subscription. In some aspects, the UE 120 may apply cell selection rules associated with the first subscription (e.g., for cell selection or cell reselection) to select a serving cell for both the first subscription and the second subscription. Additionally or alternatively, in the proxy subscription mode, the UE 120 may ignore or override cell selection rules associated with the second subscription (e.g., such that the cell selection rules associated with the first subscription may be used). In this manner, the first subscription and the second subscription may remain camped on the same cell in idle mode, which allows the UE 120 to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription using the first subscription.

[0150] As indicated by reference numeral 535, in some aspects, if UE 120 receives updated system information (e.g., in a system information block (SIB)) while proxy subscription mode is activated, UE 120 may use the updated system information received for the first subscription to update system information for the second subscription. For example, UE 120 may receive the updated system information based at least in part on performing cell reselection, based at least in part on a notification (e.g., from base station 110) that system information has been updated, and / or the like. UE 120 may apply the updated system information to both the first subscription and the second subscription. In this manner, UE 120 may update system information for the second subscription by reusing system information for both the first subscription and the second subscription without switching to the second subscription, thereby saving resources.

[0151] In some aspects, when the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 can use the first subscription to receive one or more types of communications configured for the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 can use the first subscription to receive broadcast communications (e.g., system information) configured for the second subscription, receive multicast communications configured for the second subscription, receive evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) configured for the second subscription, and so on. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 can use the first subscription to receive one or more emergency messages, such as Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS) messages, Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) messages, Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) messages, and so on. In these cases, the UE 120 can avoid using the second subscription to receive these types of communications (e.g., broadcast messages, multicast messages, eMBMS messages, emergency messages, and so on).

[0152] By using the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription (as described herein), UE 120 can increase throughput, reduce latency, increase reliability, reduce power consumption, extend battery life, and / or otherwise improve the performance of UE 120. Additionally, UE 120 can reduce the likelihood of missed pages.

[0153] As indicated above, Figure 5 is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 5 The examples described are different.

[0154] Figure 6 is a diagram illustrating another example 600 of using a first subscription of a UE to perform idle mode operation for a second subscription of the UE in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure. Figure 6 1 shows example idle mode operations that may be performed by UE 120 using a first subscription (SUB1) acting as a proxy subscription for a second subscription (SUB2) when proxy subscription mode is activated for the first subscription. In some aspects, the combined operation may be performed when the first subscription is associated with a connected mode (e.g., RRC connected mode) and the second subscription is associated with an idle mode (e.g., RRC idle mode). Figure 6 Describes the idle mode operation.

[0155] As shown at 605, when the first subscription acts as a proxy subscription for the second subscription, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription. As shown at 610, when the first subscription acts as a proxy subscription for the second subscription, the UE 120 may avoid using the second subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations (indicated using strikethrough text). For example, the UE 120 may avoid using the second subscription to perform one or more idle operations that were performed using the first subscription, thereby conserving resources of the UE 120 (e.g., processing power, memory, battery charge, etc.).

[0156] As shown by reference numeral 615, the proxy subscription mode may include, for example, a proxy paging demodulation mode, a proxy idle mobility mode, and the like. As shown, in the proxy paging demodulation mode, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform paging demodulation for the second subscription. As further shown, in the proxy idle mobility mode, the UE 120 may use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mobility operations associated with the second subscription, such as one or more measurements (e.g., serving cell measurements, intra-frequency measurements, inter-frequency measurements, inter-RAT measurements, etc.), a cell reselection procedure, a cell handover procedure, a system information update, and the like.

[0157] In some aspects, if UE 120 receives a page for a second subscription using a first subscription, UE 120 may determine whether to respond to or ignore the page based at least in part on a quality of service (QoS) parameter associated with data traffic sent or received (or scheduled to be sent or received) using the first subscription. For example, if the QoS level meets a threshold (e.g., is greater than or equal to the threshold requirement), UE 120 may ignore the page. If the QoS level does not meet the threshold (e.g., is less than or equal to the threshold requirement), UE 120 may respond to the page. For example, UE 120 may respond to the page by deactivating proxy subscription mode, establishing a connection (e.g., an RRC connection) using the second subscription, and sending or receiving data associated with the page using the established connection.

[0158] As shown at 620, when the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may Figure 5 In a similar manner as described above, one or more pages may be demodulated for a second subscription using a first subscription and / or demodulation of pages using the second subscription may be avoided. In some aspects, the pages may include pages scrambled using a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI), pages scrambled using a paging radio network temporary identifier (P-RNTI), and the like.

[0159] As shown at 625, when the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may Figure 5 In a similar manner as described, the first subscription may be used to perform one or more measurements for the second subscription and / or may avoid scheduling and / or performing measurements using the second subscription. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 may schedule and / or perform measurements according to a configuration associated with the first subscription (e.g., a configuration indicated in an RRC message for the first subscription). Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 may avoid scheduling and / or performing measurements indicated in system information (e.g., in an SIB).

[0160] As indicated by reference numeral 630, in some aspects, if the UE 120 switches to a new serving cell for the first subscription while the proxy subscription mode is activated (e.g., based at least in part on a handover command from the base station 110), the UE 120 may determine whether the second subscription is prohibited from camping on the new serving cell in idle mode. If the second subscription is not prohibited from camping on the new serving cell in idle mode, the UE 120 may trigger cell reselection to the new serving cell for the second subscription. If the second subscription is prohibited from camping on the new serving cell in idle mode, the UE 120 may deactivate the proxy subscription mode, as described below in conjunction with Figure 7 In this manner, the first subscription and the second subscription may remain on the same cell (if allowed), which enables UE 120 to use the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription.

[0161] As indicated by reference numeral 635, in some aspects, if the UE 120 receives updated system information (e.g., in a SIB) while the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may use the updated system information received for the first subscription to update the system information for the second system, as described above in conjunction with Figure 5 As described above. Figure 5 As described, in some aspects, when proxy subscription mode is activated, UE 120 may use a first subscription to receive one or more types of communications configured for a second subscription, such as broadcast messages, multicast messages, eMBMS messages, emergency messages, etc.

[0162] By using the first subscription to perform one or more idle mode operations for the second subscription (as described herein), UE 120 may increase throughput, reduce latency, increase reliability, reduce power consumption, extend battery life, and / or otherwise improve performance of UE 120. Additionally, UE 120 may reduce the likelihood of missed pages.

[0163] As indicated above, Figure 6 is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 6 The examples described are different.

[0164] Figure 7 is a diagram illustrating another example 700 of using a first subscription of a UE to perform idle mode operation for a second subscription of the UE in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure.

[0165] For the sake of explanation Figure 7 For the purpose of illustration, a multi-SIM UE such as an SR-DSDS UE (e.g., UE 120) may include a first SIM 305a and a second SIM 305b, both associated with a connection to the same cell, as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 As described above, the first SIM 305a can be associated with a first subscription (shown as SUB 1), and the second SIM 305b can be associated with a second subscription (shown as SUB 2). Figure 4 As described, UE 120 may have activated proxy subscription mode.

[0166] As indicated by reference numeral 705, while the proxy subscription mode is activated, the UE 120 may determine that a condition for deactivating the proxy subscription mode is met. For example, the UE 120 may determine that a connection associated with the first subscription has been handed over to a new cell (e.g., cell 2), and the second subscription is prohibited from camping on the new cell in idle mode, and may deactivate the proxy subscription mode based at least in part on this determination.

[0167] Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 may deactivate proxy subscription mode based at least in part on a determination that the first subscription and / or the second subscription are out of service (e.g., outside of a coverage area associated with a network operator). Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 may deactivate proxy subscription mode based at least in part on a determination that the first subscription and the second subscription are being used on different RATs. For example, the first subscription may switch from using an LTE RAT to using an NR RAT, while the second subscription may continue to use an LTE RAT. Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 may deactivate proxy subscription mode based at least in part on initiating a public land mobile network (PLMN) search using the second subscription.

[0168] Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 may deactivate proxy subscription mode based at least in part on initiating a connection establishment (e.g., establishment of an RRC connection) using a second subscription. For example, the second subscription may initiate a connection establishment to respond to a page, initiate a voice call, receive a voice call, send a communication, etc. In this case, the first subscription may enter idle mode. In some aspects, proxy subscription mode may be activated for the second subscription in this case.

[0169] As shown at 710, based at least in part on the determination that the condition is satisfied, UE 120 may deactivate proxy subscription mode. In some aspects, based at least in part on deactivating proxy subscription mode, each subscription may handle its own idle mode operation (described elsewhere herein). Additionally or alternatively, the first subscription and the second subscription may communicate using different cells. By deactivating proxy subscription mode, UE 120 may have the flexibility to switch between subscriptions as appropriate.

[0170] As indicated above, Figure 7 is provided as an example. Other examples can be found in the Figure 7 The examples described are different.

[0171] Figure 8 is a diagram illustrating an example process 800, for example, performed by a UE, in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure.
