Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of bird feeders, and more particularly to a bird feeder having an integrated perch and an improved seed tray. Background Art

[0002] Bird feeders are commonplace for bird watchers and animal lovers. However, current bird feeders suffer from numerous issues, including, but not limited to, fragile perches that can break easily. In fact, existing perches on bird feeders can easily dislodge from the recesses in the shield and, as a result, can be lost, loosen, or break under the weight of birds.

[0003] Therefore, a novel bird feeder that can overcome the problems of the prior art is needed. Summary of the Invention

[0004] In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a bird feeder comprising: a seed pellet container for holding seed pellets; a seed pellet tray connected to the seed pellet container and adapted to provide access to the seed pellets; a shield engaged with the seed pellet tray, the shield movable between a first position providing access to the seed pellets and a second position denying access to the seed pellets; at least one integral perch for facilitating access to the seed pellets by birds; and a lid releasably secured to the seed pellet container.

[0005] In another aspect, the present disclosure provides a shield having a base for use with a bird feeder, the shield comprising: at least one integral perch for promoting access to bird seed by birds; at least one opening through which the at least one integral perch is positioned; wherein the at least one integral perch is pivotally engaged with the shield. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0012] The following embodiments are merely illustrative and are not intended to be limiting. It should be understood that various modifications and / or changes may be made to the embodiments described herein without departing from the present disclosure, and any modifications and / or changes are within the scope of the intended present disclosure.

[0013] refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2 And according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a bird feeder 10 is shown, which preferably includes: a seed container 15 for containing seed grains and covered by a lid 17, a seed tray 20, adapted to hold and provide access to the seed grains, and a shield 25, which is movable from a first position that allows access to the seed grains to a second position that denies access to the seed grains. The bird feeder 10 also includes an integral perch 40 on which birds can perch and eat the seed grains. The shield 25 also includes an aperture 50 through which the integral perch 40 protrudes. In a preferred embodiment, the apertures 50 are arranged in pairs, such that the perch 40 enters and exits each pair of apertures 50, as shown in FIG. Figure 1 In another embodiment, the perch bar 40 may form a loop and enter and exit the same aperture 50.

[0014] refer to Figure 3 、 Figure 4 and Figure 5 And according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the perches 40 are shown in more detail as being pivotally secured to a base 55 of a bird feeder (not shown) shroud (not shown). In one embodiment, the base 55 is secured to the shroud (not shown). Each perch 40 terminates in a U-shape 60, each U-shape 60 being pivotally engaged with a pivot point 65 of the base 55. The perches 40 are configured to pivot between a first, extended position, in which birds can perch on the perches 40, and a second, collapsed position. Figure 3 In the second folded position, birds cannot perch ( Figure 4). In the second position, the bird feeder (not shown) can be more easily stored with the box and shipped to the consumer. In one embodiment, the base 55 includes an upper pressing member 67 and a lower pressing member 69. The upper pressing member 67 and the lower pressing member 69 are fixed to the base 55 by means of screws 68 or other fastening means. In this way, the perch 40 is pivotally locked to the base 55, more specifically between the upper pressing member 67 and the lower pressing member 69.

[0015] Further references Figure 2 and Figure 3 And according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, while the base 55 can be attached solely to the shield 25, or the base 55 and shield 25 can form a single, integral component, the base 55 is secured to the shield 25 via screws 80 tightened around rods 82. Importantly, the shield 25 has at least one opening 50 to accommodate the perch 40. In another embodiment, the shield 25 does not include a pair of openings, but rather a plurality of single openings (not shown), and the perch 40 can have a semicircular or other suitable shape and be pivotally secured only within a single opening (not shown). The shield 25 includes a plurality of recessed portions 70 surrounding the openings 50, which facilitate placement of the perch 40 in its first position. Furthermore, when a bird sits on the perch 40 (which in turn rests on the shield), the weight of the bird places additional stress on the shield 25. Therefore, the recessed portions 70 also reinforce the shield 25. The perch bars 40 are configured with a pair of indentations 75 configured to rest on the recessed portion 70 in a first position. In a preferred configuration, each perch bar 40 has a first end 85 pivotally engaged with a first pivot point 87, extends from the shroud 25 through the first opening 50 and into a second opening (not shown), and terminates at a second end 90 pivotally engaged with a second pivot point 92 such that the perch bar 40 pivots about both the first pivot point 87 and the second pivot point 92.

[0016] refer to Figure 5And according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, the lower crimping member 69 includes a plurality of brackets 95 adapted to receive each end of a perch bar (not shown). At the same time, the upper crimping member 67 includes a concave wall 97. When the upper crimping member 67 is fastened to the lower crimping member 69, the brackets 95 are positioned below the concave wall 97. The brackets 95 and the concave wall 97 together form a pivot point (not shown) around which the perch bar (not shown) can pivot. In fact, the perch bar (not shown) terminates in a U-shape (not shown) and is confined between the brackets 95 and the concave wall 97. Although the base 55, the upper crimping member 67 and the lower crimping member 69 are three separate components, those skilled in the art will understand that the lower crimping member 69 and the base 55 can be formed or molded into a single component. Alternatively, the base 55, the lower crimping member 69 and the upper crimping member 67 can be formed or molded into a single component.

[0017] Many modifications and other embodiments of the embodiments described herein will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art having benefit of the teachings presented in the foregoing description and the associated drawings. It should be understood that these modifications and additional embodiments fall within the intended scope of the disclosure without limitation to the specific embodiments disclosed.
