Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] This invention relates to the field of instrument science and technology, specifically to a system and method for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils. Background Technology
[0002] Calcareous microfossils (such as planktonic foraminifera and coccolithophores) are tiny fossils composed of calcium carbonate, typically ranging in size from micrometers to millimeters, characterized by complex structures and fragility. These fossils are of significant value in paleoceanography and paleoclimatology research, as their mechanical properties (such as compressive strength) can effectively reflect paleoenvironmental parameters, including crucial information such as seawater pH, temperature, and diagenesis. However, due to the minute size and structural heterogeneity of calcareous microfossils, conducting mechanical property testing on them presents considerable technical challenges.
[0003] In existing technologies, traditional mechanical testing equipment (such as universal testing machines) is mainly suitable for mechanical testing of macroscopic samples. For microscale, fragile samples such as calcareous microfossils, traditional equipment is difficult to operate accurately and fix stably, which can easily lead to sample breakage during testing, resulting in deviations in test data and failing to meet the requirements for accurate measurement of the mechanical properties of microfossils.
[0004] With the continuous development of microfabrication technology, high-sensitivity force sensors (such as piezoelectric sensors), and microscopic imaging technology, a technological foundation has been laid for developing specialized testing devices suitable for microfossils. By integrating key technologies such as microscopic visual positioning modules and micro-Newton-level force feedback control modules, it is expected to overcome the limitations of traditional testing methods and provide support for the quantitative development of micropaleontology research. Summary of the Invention
[0005] The purpose of this invention is to provide a system and method for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils, so as to solve the problem that traditional equipment is difficult to use for mechanical testing of microscale and fragile calcareous microfossils.
[0006] To achieve the above objectives, the present invention provides the following technical solution:
[0007] In a first aspect, the present invention provides a system for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils, comprising:
[0008] A device for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils includes a base, a stepper motor, an impact module, a sample platform, and a miniature pressure sensor. The base has a vertically mounted motion platform for the stepper motor. The impact module is driven by the stepper motor to achieve lifting and lowering motion. The sample platform is mounted on the base, with a quartz glass sheet fixed to its top. A quartz glass sheet is fixed to the impact end of the impact module at the position corresponding to the quartz glass sheet on the sample platform. The miniature pressure sensor is located below the sample platform, with its force-bearing end connected to the bottom of the sample platform.
[0009] A stepper motor driver, wherein the signal output terminal of the stepper motor driver is connected to the signal input terminal of the stepper motor, and is used to transmit a drive signal to the stepper motor;
[0010] A sensor data acquisition unit, wherein the signal input terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit is connected to the signal output terminal of the miniature pressure sensor, is used to receive the mechanical signal output by the miniature pressure sensor;
[0011] In one possible implementation, a host computer is also included. The control signal output terminal of the host computer is connected to the signal input terminal of the stepper motor driver for sending motion control commands to the stepper motor driver. The signal input terminal of the host computer is connected to the signal output terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit for receiving mechanical data transmitted by the sensor data acquisition unit.
[0012] In one possible implementation, the output end of the stepper motor is connected to the lead screw drive, and the impact module is connected to the lead screw transmission, realizing lifting and lowering motion as the lead screw rotates.
[0013] In one possible implementation, a DC power supply unit is also included, the power output terminal of which is connected to the power input terminal of the stepper motor, the power input terminal of the miniature pressure sensor, and the power input terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit, respectively.
[0014] In one possible implementation, a monocular zoom microscope is also included, which is fixedly mounted on the quartz glass plate area corresponding to the sample platform for observing the sample crushing process.
[0015] In one possible implementation, a high-definition camera is also included. The high-definition camera is an industrial-grade CCD for microscopes, which is mounted on the imaging path of the monocular zoom microscope. The control signal input terminal of the high-definition camera is connected to the control signal output terminal of the host computer for receiving recording control commands from the host computer.
[0016] In one possible implementation, the minimum movement speed of the stepper motor is ≤12 pulses / second, and the control signal input terminal of the stepper motor is indirectly connected to the control signal output terminal of the host computer through the stepper motor drive to receive the speed switching command sent by the host computer.
[0017] In one possible implementation, the sampling frequency of the sensor data acquisition unit is ≥100Hz, and the control terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit is connected to the control terminal of the host computer to receive start / stop acquisition commands from the host computer.
[0018] In one possible implementation, the miniature pressure sensor has a range of 0-1N and a resolution of ≤0.01N, and its signal output terminal forms a data transmission path with the signal input terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit.
[0019] Secondly, the present invention provides a method for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils, applicable to any of the aforementioned calcareous microfossil compressive strength measurement systems, comprising the following steps:
[0020] Before measurement, the miniature pressure sensor is calibrated using standard weights. After calibration, the miniature pressure sensor is ready for measurement.
[0021] After taking calcareous microfossil samples and cleaning to remove surface impurities, the size parameters of the samples were measured using a stereomicroscope to obtain the initial size data of the samples.
[0022] After completing the dimensional measurement, place the sample at the center of the quartz glass sheet at the top of the sample platform, ensuring that the sample is directly below the quartz glass sheet at the bottom of the impact module;
[0023] The host computer sends a start command to the sensor data acquisition unit, and the sensor data acquisition unit begins to capture and record the mechanical data output by the miniature pressure sensor in real time. If the system includes a high-definition camera, the host computer also sends a start command to the high-definition camera, and the high-definition camera, together with a monocular zoom microscope, records the sample area in real time.
[0024] After data recording and video recording are started, the host computer sends a motion command to the stepper motor driver. After receiving the command, the stepper motor driver drives the stepper motor to move the impact module downward. First, it moves at high speed to a position 5mm away from the sample. Then, the host computer sends a speed switching command, and the stepper motor switches to the minimum movement speed to continue moving downward.
[0025] As the stepper motor drives the impact module downward, the miniature pressure sensor detects the force changes in real time and transmits the mechanical signal to the sensor data acquisition unit. The sensor data acquisition unit processes the signal and transmits it to the host computer. When the host computer determines, based on the received mechanical signal, that the sample has been completely crushed or that the bottom of the impact module is in contact with the quartz glass sheet on the top of the sample platform, the host computer sends a stop command to the stepper motor driver, and the stepper motor stops moving.
[0026] After the stepper motor stops moving, the host computer sends a reset command to the stepper motor driver, and the stepper motor driver drives the impact module back to the initial zero point position.
[0027] After the impact module returns to its original position, the host computer sends a stop command to the sensor data acquisition unit and the high-definition camera to stop data acquisition and recording, and controls the saving of the captured mechanical data and video files to the storage unit.
[0028] After the data is saved, clean the sample residue on the sample platform and the impurities on the surface of the quartz glass sheet.
[0029] Compared with existing technologies, the advantages of this invention are as follows: This invention achieves lifting motion by connecting a stepper motor to a lead screw drive and an impact module to a lead screw transmission. Quartz glass sheets are fixed at corresponding positions on the sample platform and the impact module to reduce the impact of deformation. Simultaneously, signal acquisition is achieved using a miniature pressure sensor and a sensor data acquisition unit, combined with real-time observation and recording from a monocular zoom microscope and a high-definition camera, and coordinated control of each module by a host computer. This successfully enables accurate and stable measurement of the compressive strength of microscale, fragile calcareous microfossils. This method effectively reduces sample breakage and data deviation, meeting the needs of refined testing of the mechanical properties of microfossils in paleoenvironmental research. A quartz glass sheet is fixed to the impact end of the impact module corresponding to the position of the quartz glass sheet on the sample platform. The miniature pressure sensor is located below the sample platform, and its force-bearing end is connected to the bottom of the sample platform.

[0042] In one embodiment, the system further includes a host computer, the control signal output terminal of which is connected to the signal input terminal of the stepper motor driver for sending motion control commands to the stepper motor driver; the signal input terminal of the host computer is connected to the signal output terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit for receiving mechanical data transmitted by the sensor data acquisition unit.
[0043] In one embodiment, the output end of the stepper motor is connected to the lead screw drive, and the impact module is connected to the lead screw transmission, realizing lifting and lowering motion as the lead screw rotates.
[0044] In one embodiment, a DC power supply unit is further included, the power output terminal of which is connected to the power input terminal of the stepper motor, the power input terminal of the miniature pressure sensor, and the power input terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit, respectively.
[0045] In one embodiment, a monocular zoom microscope is also included, which is fixedly mounted on the quartz glass plate area corresponding to the sample platform for observing the sample crushing process.

[0049] In one embodiment, the miniature pressure sensor has a range of 0-1N and a resolution of ≤0.01N, and its signal output terminal forms a data transmission path with the signal input terminal of the sensor data acquisition unit.
[0050] Figure 3 This is a flowchart illustrating the method for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils in this invention; see also... Figure 3 This invention also provides a method for measuring the compressive strength of calcareous microfossils, applicable to any of the above-described calcareous microfossil compressive strength measurement systems, comprising the following steps:
[0051] Before measurement, the miniature pressure sensor is calibrated using standard weights. After calibration, the miniature pressure sensor is ready for measurement.
[0052] After taking calcareous microfossil samples and cleaning to remove surface impurities, the size parameters of the samples were measured using a stereomicroscope to obtain the initial size data of the samples.
[0053] After completing the dimensional measurement, place the sample at the center of the quartz glass sheet at the top of the sample platform, ensuring that the sample is directly below the quartz glass sheet at the bottom of the impact module;
[0054] The host computer sends a start command to the sensor data acquisition unit, and the sensor data acquisition unit begins to capture and record the mechanical data output by the miniature pressure sensor in real time. If the system includes a high-definition camera, the host computer also sends a start command to the high-definition camera, and the high-definition camera, together with a monocular zoom microscope, records the sample area in real time.
[0055] After data recording and video recording are started, the host computer sends a motion command to the stepper motor driver. After receiving the command, the stepper motor driver drives the stepper motor to move the impact module downward. First, it moves at high speed to a position 5mm away from the sample. Then, the host computer sends a speed switching command, and the stepper motor switches to the minimum movement speed to continue moving downward.
[0056] As the stepper motor drives the impact module downward, the miniature pressure sensor detects the force changes in real time and transmits the mechanical signal to the sensor data acquisition unit.
[0057] After the stepper motor stops moving, the host computer sends a reset command to the stepper motor driver, and the stepper motor driver drives the impact module back to the initial zero point position.
[0058] After the impact module returns to its original position, the host computer sends a stop command to the sensor data acquisition unit and the high-definition camera to stop data acquisition and recording, and controls the saving of the captured mechanical data and video files to the storage unit.
[0059] After the data is saved, clean the sample residue on the sample platform and the impurities on the surface of the quartz glass sheet.
[0060] For example, such as Figure 1 As shown, this embodiment consists of a DC power supply unit, a stepper motor drive, a microscope camera module, a sensor data acquisition unit, a host computer, and a calcareous microfossil compressive strength measuring device. The calcareous microfossil compressive strength measuring device is as follows... Figure 2 As shown. Before measurement, the sample must be cleaned and its dimensions measured under a stereomicroscope. After the sample is prepared, the miniature pressure sensor is calibrated using standard weights. Then, the sample is placed in the center of the sample stage. The host computer starts sensor data recording and real-time video recording by the microscope camera. The impact module is quickly moved to a position 5mm away from the sample. Then, the stepper motor switches to the slowest speed and moves downwards until the sample is completely crushed or the two glass sheets come into contact with each other. The stepper motor stops moving. The host computer controls the stepper motor to return to the zero position, saves the data and video recording, and cleans the sample stage.
[0061] As can be seen, this invention achieves lifting motion by connecting a stepper motor to a lead screw drive and an impact module to a lead screw transmission. Quartz glass sheets are fixed at corresponding positions on the sample platform and the impact module to reduce the impact of deformation. Simultaneously, signal acquisition is performed using a miniature pressure sensor and a sensor data acquisition unit. Combined with real-time observation and recording using a monocular zoom microscope and a high-definition camera, and coordinated control of each module by a host computer, accurate and stable compressive strength measurement of microscale, fragile calcareous microfossils is successfully achieved. This method effectively reduces sample breakage and data deviation, meeting the needs of refined testing of the mechanical properties of microfossils in paleoenvironmental research.
