Abstract

An apparatus and method for performing a multi-dimensional discrete Fourier transform. Data in R vectors of C elements is compressed and stored in a two-dimensional data structure, where the amount of compression is based on respective weights of a windowing function applied to elements in a row of the two-dimensional data structure memory circuit to produce a windowed vector when a column vector is read from the two-dimensional data structure memory circuit. A selected column vector is read from the two-dimensional data structure, the selected column vector including respective elements from a selected column in each row of the two-dimensional data structure. A windowed vector is produced by applying a windowing function to the selected column vector, and a discrete Fourier transform of the windowed vector is computed.
