Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of Chinese patent application No. 201680015897.2, filed on March 16, 2016, entitled "Improvements in or related to organic compounds".

[0002] This invention relates to fragrance compositions suitable for improving sleep quality and consumer products containing said fragrance compositions.

[0003] It has been observed that fragrance components and essential oils can influence mood states, and in particular, they have been suggested to produce feelings of relaxation and well-being. However, perceptions of scent are subjective, and while individuals within a cultural group may share common associations with specific scents, these associations are not always recognized across cultures and regions. For example, lavender may have a profound relaxing effect on consumers in Western Europe, but people in other geographical areas may not share this association.

[0004] While the transient psychological effects of fragrances on human behavior and mood have been studied, few experimental studies have observed the effects of fragrances on sleep quality. Some research suggests that scents can have a positive impact on sleep quality. However, these studies primarily rely on the effects of single ingredients or on highly basic combinations of ingredients that lack the expected pleasurable properties and complexity of fragrances suitable for inclusion in consumer products. Some work has been conducted using electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the effects of scents on sleep patterns. As is well known in the art, EEG is a method for measuring real-time brain activity from the scalp surface with high transient resolution and therefore remains the most commonly used technique for describing the differences between wakefulness and sleep.

[0005] The existing technology suggests that certain odors may affect the mood and emotions of human subjects and also affect sleep patterns. EEG is known to be a technique that can measure brain activity as a response to odor exposure. To the best of the applicant's knowledge, the existing technology does not teach a reliable and objective method for selecting a combination of fragrance ingredients that is both effective and complex and that is associated with improved sleep quality.

[0006] The applicant has addressed this deficiency in the prior art and provided a method that allows fragrance manufacturers to create a harmony of functional fragrances that both promote sleep quality and possess pleasurable properties and complexity.

[0007] Therefore, in a first aspect, the present invention provides a flavoring composition comprising at least two, more specifically at least five, more specifically ten or more flavoring ingredients having a known Sandman Classifier (SC) value of at least 1.35. Preferred flavoring compositions exhibit SC values of 1.35 to about 150, more specifically 1.35 to about 75, and still more specifically 1.35 to about 3.

[0008] The Sandman classification (SC) value of the flavoring composition is derived from the brainwave activity of human subjects measured after inhalation of the flavoring composition. Brainwave activity was measured via EEG using a standard 10-20 electrode system. The SC value is provided by the following formula:

[0009] SC = ((а1 ce + Θ ce ) / δ tem ) + (Θ / а2)

[0010] in:

[0011] a1 ce This indicates an oscillation frequency of 8-12 Hz at the center electrodes C3, C4, and Cz. -1 Amplitude value of brainwave activity

[0012] Θ ce This represents the amplitude of theta brainwave activity with an oscillation frequency of 4-7 Hz at the central electrodes C3, C4, and Cz.

[0013] δ tem The amplitude values of theta brainwave activity with oscillation frequencies of 0.1-3 Hz on the temporal electrodes T7 and T8; and

[0014] Θ / а2 represents the amplitude of theta brainwave activity with an oscillation frequency of 4-7 Hz and an oscillation frequency of 12-15 Hz through all electrodes. -2 is the ratio of brainwave amplitude values.

[0056] Air care products may contain one or more fragrance ingredients having a vapor pressure of less than 0.01 mmHg at 25 degrees Celsius. Suitable fragrance ingredients are listed in S. Arctander, “Perfume and Flavor Chemicals: Volume 1, Allured Publishing Corporation 1969 or any subsequent edition thereof, as well as in the IFRA (International Fragrance Research Association) database and the RIFM (Research Institute of Fragrance Materials) database, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

[0057] In addition, air care products may contain one or more low vapor pressure solvents or carriers to assist in the evaporation of the fragrance ingredients mentioned above.

[0058] Low vapor pressure solvents are defined herein as organic solvents having a vapor pressure of less than 0.1 mmHg at 20°C, and are included in the category of so-called LVPVOCs (Low Vapor Pressure Volatile Organic Compounds) approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Examples of low vapor pressure solvents include dipropylene glycol methyl ether acetate (DPMA), available under the trade name Dowanol® DPMA; Dowanol TPM (ditripropylene glycol methyl ether); Dowanol DPNB (propylene glycol n-butyl ether); Dowanol DPNP (propylene glycol n-propyl ether); and other suitable DowChemical Dow P series glycol ethers.

[0059] Based on the total weight of the fragrance composition used in the air care product, the low vapor pressure solvent may be present in an amount of 10% or more, more preferably 20% or more, and more specifically 30% or more. Based on the total weight of the composition used in the air care product, the upper limit of the low vapor pressure solvent may be up to 60%, more specifically up to 70%, and still more particularly up to 80%.

[0060] In addition to or instead of the low vapor pressure solvents described above, the fragrance compositions of the present invention may contain one or more fragrance ingredients having similar evaporation properties to those listed in the CARB VOCs above. Suitable fragrance ingredients are those (and their equivalents) described in EP2328625, which is incorporated herein as a so-called “FPC” ingredient. FPC ingredients include, but are not limited to, isononyl acetate, dihydromyrcenol, linalool, geraniol, d-limonene, and benzyl acetate.

[0061] The fragrance composition may additionally include a carrier material consisting of one or more volatile aromatic chemicals. [0064] In addition to the materials listed above, the compositions of the present invention may also contain one or more surfactants selected from agents that provide fabric conditioning or softening, fabric freshening, air freshening or deodorizing, and odor removal. Surfactants may also include surfactants, emulsifiers, solubilizers, polymers, odor-resistant agents, buffers, zinc ions, etc.

[0065] Air care devices suitable for the compositions of the present invention include electric air purifiers, which refer to devices or systems that incorporate electrical or battery power. [0066] Devices of any suitable size, shape, form, or configuration may be used. Suitable devices may be made of any suitable material, including but not limited to: natural materials, artificial materials, fibrous materials, non-fibrous materials, porous materials, non-porous materials, and combinations thereof.

[0067] In some embodiments, a typical device utilizes a combination of a core and a dispensing surface to dispense a liquid composition in a liquid composition reservoir.

[0068] Devices for dispensing volatile liquids into the atmosphere (e.g., "wicking devices") are known, such as fragrances, deodorants, disinfectants, or pesticide active agents. Typical air care devices utilize a combination of a wick and a radiating surface to dispense volatile liquids from a liquid reservoir. The device should be designed to allow the liquid composition to be dispensed into the ambient atmosphere at a stable and controlled rate, while maintaining consistent olfactory characteristics throughout the device's lifespan.

[0069] In one embodiment of the invention, the device includes an electrically or battery-operated energy source, comprising a heated liquid wick delivery system, a piezoelectric spray system, an electrospray device, or a liquid flow measuring device. [0070] The spice composition of the present invention can be used as a spice that can be prepared from all the types of spice blending devices described above.

[0071] The fragrance compositions of the present invention are evaporated in a controlled manner. Specifically, the evaporation rate, measured at 0.2-0.6 g / day per unit time relative to the weight loss of fragrance, is relatively constant within a specified time period (e.g., 30, 40, or 60 days). The evaporation rate is substantially constant, for example, the difference in fragrance weight loss per unit time within the specified time period is less than ±5%, ±10%, or ±20%.

[0072] Furthermore, the evaporation rate is such that the reservoir containing the liquid composition of the present invention is empty, or substantially empty, before the rate decays to below 0.2 g / day.

[0073] The level at which a fragrance composition is incorporated into a consumer product can vary widely and depends to some extent on the specific application and consumer product. In liquid electro-air care devices, for example, the entire composition to be evaporated typically consists of a fragrance composition.

[0074] Based on the total weight of the consumer product, the incorporation of the flavoring composition ranges from about 1 wt% to about 100 wt%, more specifically from about 1 wt% to 60 wt%, and still more particularly from about 0.01 wt% to 25 wt%.

[0075] In one specific embodiment of the invention, the fragrance composition for use in an air freshener composition comprises about 0.01 wt% to 25 wt% of a functional fragrance ingredient based on the weight of the air freshener composition.

[0076] In another specific embodiment, the fragrance composition for use in an oral care composition comprises about 0.01 wt% to about 60 wt% of a functional fragrance ingredient based on the weight of the oral care composition.

[0077] In another specific embodiment, the fragrance composition for the fabric care composition comprises about 0.01 wt% to about 20 wt% of a functional fragrance ingredient based on the weight of the fabric care composition.

[0078] In another specific embodiment, the fragrance composition for use in a personal care composition comprises about 0.01 wt% to about 20 wt% of a functional fragrance ingredient based on the weight of the personal care composition.

[0079] In another specific aspect of the invention, the consumer product is a household care product. Household care products are specifically designed for cleaning, rinsing, caring for, or treating industrial, domestic, or public hard surfaces and textile surfaces; their purpose is to impart beneficial properties to the treated surface, such as water resistance, dirt release, stain resistance, anti-fogging, surface repair, wrinkle resistance, gloss, lubrication, and / or improvement of the residue, effect, or efficacy of the active substances contained in the active ingredients of the composition. Therefore, the household care compositions of the present invention include: surface cleaning compositions (e.g., glass, floors, countertops, bathrooms, toilet bowls, sinks, appliances, and furniture cleaning compositions); disinfectants (e.g., sprays and solid air disinfectants (including gels); sprays, solids, liquids, and pastes of surface disinfectants); waxes and other surface protection and / or polishing compositions; and carpet shampoos. Household care compositions may include additional ingredients such as enzymes, bleach, brighteners, color care agents, fabric softeners, antifoaming agents, dispersants, dye transfer inhibitors, chelating agents, aerosol sprays, gelling agents, thickeners, and combinations thereof.

[0080] In another specific embodiment, the fragrance composition for use in a home care composition comprises about 0.01 wt% to about 34 wt% of a functional fragrance ingredient based on the weight of the home care composition.

[0081] The fragrance compositions of the present invention are designed according to fragrance manufacturing rules for addressing sleep quality, and provide performance and desired pleasure consistency suitable for specific consumer product applications. More specifically, the fragrance compositions are selected from combinations of functional fragrance ingredients, and based on the SC values of those ingredient combinations.

[0082] Therefore, in another aspect of the invention, a method for preparing a fragrance composition for improving sleep quality is provided, the method comprising the step of combining functional fragrance ingredients in such a manner that the composition has a Sandman classification value greater than 1.35.

[0083] In another aspect of the invention, a method for preparing a consumer product is provided, the method comprising incorporating a fragrance composition having a known Sandman classification value greater than 1.35, as defined herein, into a consumer product matrix.

[0084] The applicant has conducted extensive research on the relationship between fragrance compositions and sleep quality in human subjects who inhaled the compositions. The research employed consumer testing and electroencephalography (EEG) to measure brain activity and to statistically analyze the resulting data. In this manner, the applicant has elucidated a new parameter that enables fragrance manufacturers to objectively design high-performance and complex fragrance compositions that positively influence sleep quality.

[0085] The applicant now provides further examples of the invention with reference to the embodiments and detailed descriptions of EEG and consumer testing methods.

[0086] Sandman classification (SC) scores were determined using electroencephalography (EEG) with a standard 10-20 electrode system.

[0087] The 10-20 system is a well-known, standardized method for describing and applying scalp electrode placements associated with subcortical regions of the brain. A detailed description is not required here, and the applicant merely draws attention to Jasper HH., the 10-20 electrode system of the International Federation. Electroencephalogr Clin Neurophysiol 1958;10:371-375, which is incorporated herein by reference.

[0088] Twenty-five female participants (aged 32-52) participated in this study. All participants gave informed consent to participate in this test.

[0089] Fragrance compositions were prepared by aspirating 0.1 g of fragrance oil into a sorborod and allowing it to stand for 24 hours. Five fragrance compositions were included for comparison in this test, excluding one odorless control (blank sorborod). Each composition was served once during the test. The order in which the fragrance compositions were served was balanced with the participants.

[0090] The test consisted of two elements, repeated multiple times throughout the experiment: the first element comprised an alert / active task, and the second element comprised a relaxation task. For the alert / active task, participants performed a short 2-minute math task to ensure they were alert. Following this 2-minute math lesson, participants then performed the relaxation task. During the relaxation task, EEG was recorded as participants sat comfortably while wearing blindfolds to eliminate unwanted visual stimuli (e.g., from the sorborod). Participants were instructed at the start of the experiment to close their eyes and sit awake, but remain relaxed to avoid unnecessary movement / muscle tension and continue normal breathing. Immediately after participants closed their eyes, a spice composition was presented to them using sorborods fixed approximately 5–6 cm below the nose. The spice composition was held under the nose for 5 minutes. At the end of the 5 minutes, participants opened their eyes and completed a questionnaire that included ratings about their mood and the scent. Afterward, participants again performed the alert math task, followed by the relaxation task, and then the next spice composition was presented. This test was repeated for all spice compositions. Each spice composition / sorbarod (4 compositions and 1 odorless blank) was presented twice during the task, meaning that participants completed a total of 10 math tasks and 10 relaxation tasks.

[0091] In each experiment, Ag / AgCl electrodes, positioned according to the 10-20 international system (AEEGS, 1991) and mounted on an EasyCap, were used to record EEG using NuAmp amplifiers (Neuroscan, El Paso, TX) from 18 scalp sites. The spliced images included four midline sites (FZ, FCZ, CZ, PZ) and seven sites on each hemisphere (FP1 / FP2, F3 / F4, FC3 / FC4, C3 / C4, CP3 / CP4, P3 / P4, O1 / O2). Additional electrodes were used as ground and reference sites. The correct mastoid process (behind the ear) was used as the active reference. Data were then re-compared offline to the algebraic mean of the right and left mastoid processes. Respiratory signals were simultaneously recorded using piezoelectric sensors embedded in the abdominal breathing band. EEG signals were digitized at a sampling rate of 1000 Hz. Data were recorded using a 300 Hz low-pass filter, but without a high-pass filter (DC). During the experiment, digital codes were sent to an EEG recording computer to label the presentation of odor stimuli.

[0092] For each experiment, EEG data were filtered offline using a bandpass filter of 1–50 Hz. Digital codes were used to mark the time of odor stimulus presentation (during exhalation), and then the codes were timed to coincide with the start of the next breath using markers from the respiratory band traces. This ensured that all odor stimuli were timely and consistent throughout the experiment, and coincided with the start of the next breath. EEG recordings were taken within the time window of odor presentation. Excessive noise or drift (+ / - 50 Hz) was excluded. Measurement intervals for V) were rejected. Furthermore, all tests were visually inspected for minor artifacts and drifts, and discarded if necessary.

[0093] Following methods generally known in the art, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis was used to analyze data from the time window of interest (presented every 5 minutes of spice / sorbarod) in the frequency domain. The FFT analysis converted the EEG signal into an energy spectrum, where the X-axis reflects frequency (Hz) and the Y-axis reflects power (power reflects the amplitude of each frequency within the time window and the relative amount of those waves, i.e., how long a specific frequency of each waveform exists within the window). The main frequency band used in this experiment is... The band (8-12Hz) is pre-associated with relaxation.

[0094] Frequency analysis was performed on each participant for each fragrance condition (averaging the results of two replicates). The data from the entire group of participants were then averaged to generate the average spectrum for each fragrance condition. Spectral responses were compared between the fragrance and unfragrant conditions, and among the individual fragrance conditions. Then, specific frequency bands of interest were analyzed. A statistical analysis (ANOVA) was performed on the samples to test for significant differences between conditions. Analyses were performed in different brain regions to examine more specific effects through the frontal and posterior regions.

[0095] The results of sleep research were validated using EEG test data to determine whether the EEG data were relevant to actual sleep experience.

[0096] Initially, 70 women aged 25–60 years were pre-screened for suitability and eligibility using a predefined questionnaire. Twenty participants (aged 34–56 years) were selected based on negotiated criteria, including sleep performance, lifestyle, nighttime routines, general health, and aroma allergies. All participants gave informed consent before participation. Participants were selected based on average or below-average sleep quality (i.e., neither poor nor very poor sleep). Participants were instructed to maintain their usual sleep habits and nighttime routines and avoid excessive alcohol consumption throughout the study.

[0097] Different test fragrance compositions were selected for this study. The environmental strength of the compositions was based on an average of 10.5 m. 2The selection was based on a standard bedroom size and a wide range of guidelines for nighttime use. An ambient fragrance was provided in the room using a Reed diffuser device containing 7 rattan sticks (20% fragrance, 50g filler volume). When screening volunteers, bedroom size and whether the volunteer slept with the bedroom door and windows open or closed were taken into consideration. For the unscented diffuser (control), a mixture of DPM and DPG was used. Participants were instructed to place the Reed diffuser near the bed (e.g., on a dresser / drawer) rather than on the bedside table (to avoid accidental placement).

[0098] The study lasted for two weeks for each participant. Each week, participants were provided with a Reed fragrance diffuser containing either a fragrance test composition or a control liquid. Participants were informed that they would be tested with two fragrance samples, the intensity of which could vary, and that one of the diffusers was not explicitly stated to be fragrance-free. During week 1, participants slept with the control diffuser in the presence to measure baseline sleep quality (control week). During the second week, participants slept with the fragrance composition in the presence. The allocation of fragrance and unfragrant conditions in weeks 1 and 2 was coordinated and balanced among participants.

[0099] Participants were provided with information on how to use the reed diffuser. Participants simply needed to set up the diffuser at the agreed location at the beginning of each week and replace / remove the diffuser at the end of each week.

[0100] Participants were provided with a 7-question sleep diary each week. Participants wore the activity tracker every night as instructed. They completed the sleep diary 15 minutes after waking up each morning. The diary included questions about sleep quality and quantity, as well as questions about scent awareness. At the end of the 2-week test, participants were interviewed and reported on their experiences during the test.

[0101] Twenty participants recorded their sleep diaries daily using a sleep diary questionnaire. Sleep diary measures included those related to sleep quality (sleep quality score, morning wakefulness score) and sleep volume (sleep duration, expected sleep time, estimated number of awakenings). These measures are established sleep parameters and can be sensitive to differences in sleep performance.

[0102] Sleep quality scores were recorded daily by participants: Last night I slept: Very good (= 5)...Good (= 4)...Fairly good (= 3)...Fairly bad (= 2)...Very bad (= 1). Therefore, higher scores were associated with better sleep quality. Average questionnaire results for each test week showed that participants reported significantly better sleep in the presence of fragrance compared to the unfragranted control group (p=0.002).

[0103] Participants also noted in their sleep diaries how alert they felt 15 minutes after waking up: 15 minutes after waking up, I felt: very alert (= 5)... alert (= 4)... not alert (= 3)... tired (= 2)... extremely tired (= 1). Therefore, higher values were associated with participants feeling more alert as the first thing in the morning. Average results per test week showed that participants reported feeling more alert as the first thing in the morning after sleep compared to the unflavored control group (p=0.022).

[0104] In their daily sleep diaries, participants recorded their estimated time to fall asleep: for example, "As far as I remember, it took me... minutes to fall asleep." Weekly average results showed that participants perceived that they took significantly less time to fall asleep in the presence of the flavoring composition compared to the unflavored control group (p=0.043).

[0105] Participants also recorded the estimated number of times they woke up at night in their diaries: for example, "I remember waking up... times last night." Weekly average results showed that, compared with the unscented control group, participants reported a significantly reduced number of frequent awakenings during sleep in the presence of the fragrance composition (p=0.02).

[0106] Mean sleep duration was calculated based on participants' perceived expected time to fall asleep (time taken to fall asleep after lights out) and time of wakefulness in the morning. The average duration was then taken over the week. Results showed no significant difference in self-reported sleep duration between the spice composition week (7 hours 29 minutes) and the control week (7 hours 36 minutes) (p=0.5).

[0107] Use the Philips Actiwatch® to monitor nighttime sleep quality. The device, worn by the participant, is small and lightweight, similar to a wristwatch. The Actiwatch® is strapped to the non-dominant wrist each night and removed upon waking the next morning. Participants can press a small "event marker" button to indicate "falling asleep" and "waking up in the morning." The Actiwatch® records body movements during sleep at 30-second intervals. The activity tracking module includes implementations of activity tracking devices manufactured by: ActiGraph LLC, ActiTrainer (formerly CSA / MTI), Ambulatory Monitoring Inc., Motionlogger Actigraph, Cambridge Neurotechnology Actiwatch, Consultoria Eletronica Four Parameter Brazilian Actigraph, GulfCoast Data Concepts USB Accelerometer, MetriSense, Inc. – a distributor of activity monitors from CamNtech, Ltd., UK, PAL Technologies Ltd – and a manufacturer of activity monitors, Philips Respironics Actiwatch.

[0108] Three parameters were analyzed from Actiwatch® records: sleep efficiency (an overall measure of sleep quality), wake-up time (calculated based on the total number of wake-ups during the night, including the time required to fall asleep), and the percentage of time spent awakening during the night relative to the time spent falling asleep. All three measurements were based on validated software algorithms and are well-established measurements used in sleep research.

[0109] Sleep efficiency scores were calculated using the built-in algorithm in Actiware software. Efficiency scores were assigned to each participant nightly and compared using ANOVA (subject-, condition-, week-, day-factor) over two test weeks. Data showed a strong trend towards higher sleep efficiency scores in the presence of ambient fragrance compared to the control week, although the percentage of participants who scored higher did not reach statistical significance (p=0.080).

[0110] Two additional parameters recorded by Actiwatch® were wake-up time (in minutes) and the percentage of time spent awake during the night (relative to the time spent sleeping). Scores for each parameter were calculated for each night and for each participant, and comparisons were made using ANOVA over two test weeks. The wake-up time analysis showed a strong trend of reduced nighttime awakenings in the presence of ambient scents compared to the control week. However, this did not reach significance at the 95% level (p=0.1).

[0111] This result was supported by analyzing the percentage of awake time relative to sleep time. Statistical analysis of the percentage of nighttime awakenings compared to sleep showed that participants who fell asleep in the presence of ambient fragrances had fewer awakenings during nights compared to unscented control nights. However, this did not reach the 95% significance level (p=0.078).

[0112] Further analysis was conducted to determine whether the objective measurements of sleep recorded by the activity recorder were consistent with the self-reported responses recorded in the daily sleep diary (data with and without added fragrance were combined).

[0113] A correlation analysis was conducted between sleep quality scores recorded in daily sleep diaries and objective parameters recorded by a motion tracker. The results showed a significant correlation between self-reported sleep quality levels (diary) and sleep efficiency (motion tracker) (p=0.005). Better sleep quality scores from the diary were associated with higher sleep efficiency scores. This suggests a good consistency between sleep quality scores reported by participants in their daily sleep diaries and objective measurements of sleep quality monitored by the motion tracker.

[0114] Similarly, a correlation analysis was conducted between the wakefulness rating recorded in daily sleep diaries and the objective parameters recorded by the activity tracker. Visual observation of the results suggested that wakefulness (diary) and sleep efficiency rating (activity tracker) were roughly consistent across participants, although this was not significant (p=N / S). This suggests that the effect of wakefulness on wakefulness scores is not as effective as that of sleep quality scores in terms of consistency with activity tracker data.

[0115] The present invention will now be described in more detail with reference to embodiments and experimental examples. However, it should be understood that these embodiments are for illustrative purposes only and should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.

[0116] Example

[0117] The fragrance compositions detailed in Table 1 were prepared and subjected to various test protocols. Those fragrances labeled as Fragrance 41 (= Example - Fragrance 4) and Fragrance 47 (= Example - Fragrance 6) are fragrance compositions of the present invention, while those fragrances labeled as Fragrance 44 (Example - Fragrance 1) and Fragrance 37 are comparative examples that do not meet the conditions of the present invention, but do not violate the guidance values of the specific odor families that have been highlighted.

[0118]

[0119]

[0120] Table 1

[0121] The range (minimum and maximum) values of the tested spices are compared to the range values of the "Good Sleep" spices. (In bold) Italic The cells with numbers indicate violations of the recommended range. The last row details the recommended outcome (yes or no), specifically whether the spice was considered to have sleep-enhancing properties.

[0122] Compare Example-Flavor-1 with Examples-Flavor-2, Example-Flavor-3, Example-Flavor-4, Example-Flavor-5, Example-Flavor-6 and Example-Flavor-7.

[0123] As an example of the above summary, the spices identified by EEG yielded the following results:

[0124]

[0125] Table 2

[0126] Sandman classification and verification measurements for testing spices

[0127] Verification measurement value = Sleep % + (Sleep quality)²

[0128] Sleep % is a measurement derived from the algorithm in the activity log check and is an overall measurement of sleep quality, while sleep quality is a subjective measurement with a value of 1-5.

[0129] By directly comparing the Sandman classification value of Example-Flavor-1 with the equivalent values of any of Example-Flavor-2, Example-Flavor-3, Example-Flavor-4, Example-Flavor-5, Example-Flavor-6, or Example-Flavor-7, we observed that Example-Flavor-1 has a lower Sandman classification value than any other fragrance. Furthermore, the Sandman classification value of Example-Flavor-1 is below a specified threshold of 1.35. Therefore, we can predict that Example-Flavor-1 will significantly enhance sleep worse than any other fragrance. Indeed, our validation measurements demonstrate this result.

[0130] The present invention also specifically includes the following technical solutions:

[0131] 1. A flavoring composition comprising at least two, more specifically at least five, still more specifically ten or more flavoring ingredients having a known Sandman classification (SC) value of at least 1.35.

[0132] 2. The fragrance composition of claim 1, wherein the fragrance component with a known SC value accounts for 0.1 wt% to 100 wt% of the fragrance composition, more specifically 8.5 wt% to 100 wt%, and still more specifically 34 wt% to 71 wt%.
