Abstract

A die (1) for mounting in an associated die housing (20) for producing heads on elongated bodies such as nails or screws. The die has a body (2) with an upper surface (3) which is provided with a through groove (4) for receiving and retaining an elongated body along said groove. In addition, the die has a recess in the form of a cut-off portion (9) on one side merging into a narrow groove (4) at one end of the groove (4) which is suitable for forming the head of a nail or screw. The die is preferably tapered or conical in shape so as to fit by pressure when it comes into contact with the inner surface of an inner diameter or a hole (30) in the associated die housing.The upper surface (3) of the die (1) is flat relative to the upper surface (21) of the die housing (20) by means of a stop or a lower surface (7) which is connected to a stop or a lower part (28) within the bore or inner diameter (30) of the die housing (20). Furthermore, the lower part of the die has at least one recess (8) or a projection which serves to connect with a corresponding projection (27) or notch of the associated die housing, for the inclined fixation of the groove (4) relative to the die housing (20). To produce a nail or screw from an elongated body (40), two opposing dies are joined arcuately originating from two opposing die pockets, the dies together forming the head (41) with their associated recesses.
