AI Technical Summary
Existing pipe belt grinding machines face challenges in effectively preventing coolant leakage during the grinding of long pipes, requiring large drip trays and complex adjustments for varying pipe diameters, while being costly and inefficient.
A pivotable scraper with brush elements and a locking mechanism allows for easy adjustment to different pipe diameters, ensuring effective coolant removal by mounting the scraper at varying angles and securing it in place using a locking device.
The solution effectively prevents lateral coolant leakage during grinding of long pipes, enabling quick and easy adaptation to varying diameters, enhancing efficiency and reducing the need for large drip trays.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a pipe belt grinding machine, with a machine housing that has a collection tray for coolant and with a scraper for removing coolant from a pipe to be ground. Such a tube belt grinding machine is known from US 2008 / 0113594A1. In this machine, which is designed for centerless external cylindrical grinding of cylindrical workpieces, a blade is provided to support the workpiece from below, which can be moved towards the workpiece by means of a drive. Pipe belt grinding machines have been known in the art for a long time. They feature a high-speed rotating grinding belt that can be brought into contact with a pipe in a specific way to perform grinding work. If long pipes, e.g., stainless steel pipes, need to be ground, for example by external cylindrical grinding, a correspondingly large drip tray is necessary due to the use of coolant to prevent the coolant from leaking out during the grinding process. In a prior art known through use, a V-shaped scraper is provided for this purpose, which must be adjusted accordingly depending on the diameter of the pipe in order to ensure sufficient contact with the pipe to be ground, so that coolant can be scraped off. In the aforementioned pipe belt grinding machine from US 2008 / 0 113 594 A1, the blade serves for the precise positioning of the workpiece. Naturally, the blade also has a certain wiping effect on coolant; however, this does not solve the problem of coolant leaking out laterally when grinding long pipes, which necessitates correspondingly long drip trays. US Patent 4,619,080 A discloses a grinding device for the continuous grinding of the outer surface of a roller used in a rolling mill and thus subject to high wear. For this purpose, a grinding stone is pressed against the outer surface of the roller. To prevent grinding chips from becoming visible on the surface of the rolled material, a scraper can be placed against the surface of the roller. From US 2011 / 0 009 031 A1, a grinding machine for external cylindrical grinding of workpieces is also known, in which, for the precise measurement of the surface, the workpiece surface is cleaned, which can be done by means of compressed air blown onto the workpiece surface, or by means of brushes or the like, which are preferably rotatably driven. Against this background, the invention is based on the objective of providing an improved pipe belt grinding machine that ensures safe removal of coolant, but which can be more easily adapted to the diameter of a pipe to be ground and can be manufactured cost-effectively. This problem is solved according to the invention by a pipe belt grinding machine according to claim 1. The problem solved by the invention is thus resolved. The pivotable arrangement of the scraper makes it particularly easy to adjust to the diameter of a pipe to be ground. Since the wiper comprises a plate with a plurality of brush elements and the pipe to be ground rests on the wiper, the invention results in a particularly effective wiping of coolant, so that lateral leakage beyond the machining point is effectively prevented even when grinding long pipes. Preferably, the wiper is pivotably mounted at a first end on the machine housing. A locking device for securing the wiper in different angular positions is also preferably provided. This allows for very quick and easy adjustment of the wiper to different pipe diameters. The locking device may have a plate connected to the wiper with a slot, which allows the wiper to pivot relative to a screw that can be fixed to the machine housing in order to fix the wiper in a specific angular position. This results in a particularly simple adjustment option. The pipe belt grinding machine preferably has a grinding belt for grinding the outside of a pipe. The pipe can be driven to rotate about its longitudinal axis. In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the scraper can be locked in an inclined position at an angle of approximately 10° to 80° relative to a vertical. This results in a wide range of adjustment options for different pipe diameters. According to a further embodiment of the invention, a handle is provided on the wiper, which is preferably located at a second end of the wiper opposite the first end. It is understood that the features of the invention mentioned above and those to be explained below can be used not only in the combinations specified, but also in other combinations or on their own, without leaving the scope of the invention. Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the drawing. The drawings show: Fig. 1 a perspective partial view of a tube belt grinding machine according to the invention with a scraper; Fig. 2 a perspective partial view of the tube belt grinding machine according to Fig. 1 from a position rotated relative to the representation in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a top view of the scraper according to the invention; Fig. 4 a view of the scraper according to Fig. 3 in a position rotated by 90°; Fig. 5 another side view in a position rotated by 90° relative to the representation in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 a simplified schematic side view of a tube to be ground, which rests on a scraper fixed in an inclined position and is rounded on its outside with an abrasive belt, the tube being simultaneously driven about its longitudinal axis. Figure 1 shows a partial perspective view of a pipe belt grinding machine according to the invention, designated in its entirety by the numeral 10. The pipe belt grinding machine 10 has a machine housing, generally designated by the numeral 11, in which a collection tray 12 for coolant is formed. At one end of the pipe belt grinding machine 10 is a brake wheel assembly, indicated by the numeral 18. A scraper 14 is provided for supporting a pipe to be ground and for removing the coolant from the pipe to prevent it from escaping the collection tray 12 in the case of long pipes. The scraper 14 is pivotably mounted on the machine housing 11 about a first end by means of a pivoting mount 20 and can be locked in a specific angular position by means of a locking device 16. Fig. 2 shows the pipe belt grinding machine 10 from a position rotated by approximately 90°. An actuating lever 19 is also visible, which can be used to press the brake wheel assembly 18 against a pipe for external cylindrical grinding. The construction of the wiper 14 is shown in more detail in Figures 3, 4 to 5. According to Figure 3, the wiper 14 has a rectangular plate 22 in which a plurality of brush elements 24 are mounted side by side. These brush elements project outwards from the plate 22 and together form a contact surface that can be placed against a pipe to effectively remove coolant. A triangular angled element 28 is provided at a first narrow end of the plate 22, from the end of which an angled surface 29 projects perpendicularly to the plate 22. As can be seen in Fig. 4, this angled surface 29 is approximately rectangular and has a pivot mount 20 in one outer corner, furthest from the plate 22, from which a bolt protrudes. On the side of the plate opposite the pivot mount 20, a curved slot 32 is provided, which lies on a radius around the pivot mount 20. A locking screw 30 extends through the slot 32 and can be turned by means of a handle 31 to fix the wiper 14 in a desired angular position on the machine housing 11. The pivot mount 20 with the bolt is received in a corresponding recess in the machine housing 11, about which the wiper 14 can be pivoted. For easier handling, a handle 26 is provided at the second end of the plate 22 opposite the locking device 16 via an angled element. The wiper 14 can thus be held on the handle 26 for adjustment and, after loosening the locking screw 30, adjusted to a specific angular position which enables a clean fit for a pipe to be ground. Figure 6 schematically illustrates how a tube 60, to be ground on its outer surface, rests on a scraper 14 set at a corresponding angle and is ground round on its outer surface by means of the grinding belt 68, which is driven by a drive roller 64. The actuating lever 19 is pressed as shown in Figure 2 to press the brake wheel assembly 18 against the tube surface. The scraper 14 effectively removes the constantly supplied coolant, preventing it from escaping beyond the collection tray when grinding long pipes.
