[0001] The invention relates to a lane change assistance system for a motor vehicle, which automatically controls the vehicle from one lane to another in response to a lane change request from the driver, within the framework of an automated lane change maneuver with at least automatic lateral guidance. It is preferably provided that, in addition to lateral guidance, longitudinal guidance is also performed automatically by the system. Furthermore, the invention relates to a corresponding lane change assistance method.
