Description

BACKGROUND1. Area

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an electronic braking system, and more particularly to an electronic braking system for generating a braking force using an electrical signal corresponding to movement of a brake pedal. 2. Description of the state of the art

[0002] A braking system for braking a vehicle is necessarily mounted in a vehicle and various systems have been proposed recently to achieve stronger and more stable braking force.

[0003] Examples of braking systems include anti-lock braking systems (ABS) to prevent wheel slippage during braking, braking traction control systems (BTCS) to prevent slippage of driving wheels during sudden unintended acceleration from a stop or rapid acceleration of a vehicle, and electronic stability control systems (ESC) to stably maintain a driving condition of vehicles by controlling hydraulic brake pressure via the combination of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a braking traction control system.

[0004] Generally, an electronic brake includes an actuator. When a driver presses a brake pedal, the actuator senses pedal displacement or movement via a pedal travel sensor and receives an electrical signal from the pedal travel sensor indicating the driver's braking intention, thereby delivering pressure to the wheel cylinder.

[0005] An electronic braking system equipped with such an actuator was disclosed in EP 2 520 473 B1. According to this European patent document, the actuator is designed such that a motor is activated according to a pedal force of the brake pedal to generate a braking pressure. At this point, the braking pressure is generated by converting a rotational force of the motor into a linear motion to pressurize a piston.

[0006] DE 100 36 287 A1 discloses a method and device for controlling wheel brakes. To improve availability and meet legal requirements for an electric braking system, in the event of a fault, a control of the valves is provided, derived from a second power circuit independent of the first, which allows the brake pressure in at least one wheel brake to be adjusted even in the event of a fault.

[0007] DE 198 07 366 A1 discloses a method and device for controlling a braking system. This method initiates emergency braking if, in the absence of brake application or when pressure builds up, the pressure in a wheel deviates from the nominal pressure. Pressure equalization is achieved by controlling the pressure of this wheel in a pressure control loop with the other wheel on the same axle. The method involves determining target wheel braking forces for the individual wheel brakes when the brake is applied and adjusting the wheel braking force accordingly based on the measured wheel braking force. Emergency braking is initiated if, in the absence of brake application or when pressure builds up, the pressure in a wheel deviates from the nominal pressure. Pressure equalization is achieved by controlling the pressure of this wheel in a pressure control loop with the other wheel on the same axle.Depending on the detected error conditions, different emergency braking modes can be initiated, with error detection preferably based on a model that takes the current operating state of the braking system into account. An independent claim is provided for a corresponding brake control arrangement.

[0008] DE 10 2013 223 859 A1 shows a brake system for motor vehicles with hydraulically actuated wheel brakes, which comprises a brake actuation element, a simulation device which interacts with the brake actuation element and has means for detecting a brake actuation by a vehicle driver, wherein in particular no mechanical and / or hydraulic operative connection is provided between the brake actuation element and the wheel brakes, a pressure medium reservoir which is at atmospheric pressure, an electrically controllable pressure source for actuating the wheel brakes, which pressure source is connected or connectable to each of the wheel brakes, electrically actuated wheel valves which are assigned to the wheel brakes and are used to adjust wheel brake pressures, and at least one electronic control and regulating unit for controlling the pressure source and wheel valves.

[0009] Further examples of braking systems for braking a vehicle are shown in US 2014 / 0 346 852 A1, DE 10 2012 210 809 A1, WO 2016 / 000 865 A1, DE 10 2014 225 962 A1 and DE 10 2013 224 870 A1. DEMOLITION

[0043] Reference will now be made in more detail to the embodiments of the present disclosure, embodiments of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. The embodiments to be described below are intended to fully convey the spirit of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. The present disclosure is not limited to the embodiments disclosed herein and may be implemented in other forms. In the drawings, some parts unrelated to the description are omitted and not shown in order to clearly describe the present disclosure, and also the size of the components may be exaggerated or reduced to emphasize clarity of description.

[0044] Fig. 1 is a view illustrating an electronic brake system according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure. Referring to Fig. 1, the electronic brake system according to the first embodiment may essentially include a pedal operating part 500 connected to a pedal 10, a hydraulic pressure supplying part 200 having a first hydraulic pressure supplying part 210 and a second hydraulic pressure supplying part 220, an inlet valve V10 and an outlet valve V20 included in a first hydraulic circuit and a second hydraulic circuit, respectively, control valves V31 and V32 for connecting an inlet port and an outlet port of the hydraulic pressure supplying part 200 to each other, and a simulator unit 400 connected to the pedal operating part 500 so as to provide a better pedal feel to a driver of a vehicle. The pedal 10 may be a means for receiving the driver's braking intention and supplying a forward force to a first piston 513, and may compress a cylinder chamber 510 by pushing the first piston 513 using an input rod 11 connected to the pedal 10. In this case, a stopper lug 12 projecting laterally may be provided on the input rod 11 such that the input rod 11 moving forward can push a second piston 512 over the stopper lug 12.

[0045] The pedal 10 is generally used for an electronic braking system, can receive an electrical signal indicating the driver's braking intention from pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b, and can thus supply pressure to a wheel brake.

[0046] The wheel brake 20 may include a brake caliper compressed by an operating fluid and wheels braked by the brake caliper. The wheel brake unit 20 may be compressed by the operating fluid and may brake wheels, thereby generating a braking force on the vehicle. The wheel brake 20 may include first to fourth wheel brakes 21, 22, 23, and 24. The first to fourth wheel brakes 21, 22, 23, and 24 may include a front left wheel FL, a front right wheel FR, a rear left wheel RL, and a rear right wheel RR.

[0047] A reservoir 30 can store the operating fluid and can supply the operating fluid to the braking system. The reservoir 30 can have an inlet provided at its upper part such that the operating fluid can be additionally received from an external part. The reservoir 30 can include a first reservoir chamber 31 and a second reservoir chamber 32. The first reservoir 31 can supply the operating fluid to the first hydraulic circuit. The second reservoir chamber 31 can supply the operating fluid to the second hydraulic circuit. In this case, a reservoir displacement sensor 150 can be used to detect a level of the operating fluid stored in the reservoir 30.

[0048] Two hydraulic circuits S1 and S2 may each include a normally open analog-type inlet valve V10 and a normally closed analog-type outlet valve V20. The inlet valve V10 may be provided in a line connecting the inlet port of the hydraulic pressure supply part 20 to each of the four wheel brakes 20. [0049] The inlet valve V10 may include first to fourth inlet valves V11, V12, V13, and V14. The first inlet valve V11 may be provided in a flow passage for connecting an outlet port 210b of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 to a first wheel brake 21. The second inlet valve V12 may be provided in a flow passage for connecting the outlet port 210b of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 to a third wheel brake 23. The third inlet valve V13 may be provided at a flow passage for connecting an outlet port 220b of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 to a second wheel brake 22. The fourth inlet valve V14 may be provided at a flow passage for connecting the outlet port 220b of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 to a fourth wheel brake 24.

[0050] The outlet valve V20 may include first to fourth valves V21, V22, V23, and V24. The second inlet valve V22 may be provided at a flow passage connecting the inlet port 210a of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 to the third wheel brake 23. The third inlet valve V23 may be provided at a flow passage connecting an inlet port 220a of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 to the second wheel brake 22. The fourth inlet valve V24 may be provided at a flow passage connecting the inlet port 220a of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 to the fourth wheel brake 24.

[0051] The pedal operating part 500 may include a first piston 531 connected to the pedal 10, a cylinder chamber 510 whose volume is changed by the piston 531, and a simulator chamber 520 whose volume is changed by the second piston 532. The simulator unit 400 may be hydraulically connected to the simulator chamber 520 of the pedal operating part 500, thereby providing a reaction force corresponding to a pedal force of the pedal 10.

[0052] The cylinder chamber 510 may include a first cylinder chamber 511 connected to the first hydraulic circuit and a second cylinder chamber 512 connected to the second hydraulic circuit. The first cylinder chamber 511 and the second cylinder chamber 512 may be separated from each other by a third piston 533. In this case, the first piston 531 may be moved forward by a pedal force of the pedal 16 and may be moved backward by a first elastic member 521. The third piston 533 may be moved forward by an internal pressure of the second cylinder chamber 512 and may be moved backward by a second elastic member 542.

[0053] The first piston 531 may be connected to the pedal 10 via an input rod 11 and may receive a forward force in the contraction direction of the cylinder chamber 510. The second piston 532 may receive a forward force in the contraction direction of the simulator chamber 520 via the stopper lug 12 provided on the input rod 11, such that a forward and backward movement of the first piston 531 and a forward and backward movement of the second piston 532 can be performed independently of each other.

[0054] A first reservoir valve V41 can adjust a pressure supplied to the simulator chamber 520 by opening or closing a hydraulic line connecting the simulator chamber 520 and the second reservoir chamber 32. In this case, a check valve 520a can be connected in parallel to the first reservoir valve V41 such that the check valve 520 can only allow the operating fluid to flow from the second reservoir chamber 32 into the simulator chamber 520. That is, the check valve 520 can act as a one-way valve.

[0055] Similarly, the second reservoir valve V42 can open or close a hydraulic line connecting the second cylinder chamber 512 and the second reservoir chamber 32 to each other, thereby adjusting a pressure acting on the second cylinder chamber 512. In this case, a check valve 512a can be connected in parallel with the first reservoir valve V42 such that the check valve 512 can allow the operating fluid to flow from the second reservoir chamber 32 only to the second cylinder chamber 512. That is, the check valve 512a can act as a one-way valve.

[0056] As described above, the simulator chamber 520 may be connected to the reservoir 30 via the first reservoir valve V41, and the cylinder chamber 510 may be connected to the reservoir via the second reservoir valve V42. When testing the presence or absence of air or operating fluid leakage in an emergency operation mode or fallback mode, the first reservoir valve V41 and the second reservoir valve V42 may be closed, and the first and second hydraulic pressure supply parts 210 and 220 may generate hydraulic pressure.

[0057] Pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b can detect pedal movement and transmit an electrical signal to an electronic control unit (ECU). The ECU can detect a brake pressure desired by the driver by analyzing signals from pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b and output a signal to control hydraulic pressure delivery part 200 and various valves to meet the brake pressure desired by the driver.

[0058] Circuit hydraulic pressure sensors 130a and 130b may be provided to detect a hydraulic pressure of the hydraulic circuit. For example, the circuit hydraulic pressure sensors 130a and 130b may include a first circuit hydraulic pressure sensor 130a connected to the first hydraulic circuit to detect a hydraulic pressure, and a second circuit hydraulic pressure sensor connected to the second hydraulic circuit to detect the hydraulic pressure.

[0059] The circuit hydraulic pressure sensors 130a and 130b may be arranged between the hydraulic pressure supply circuit 200 and the inlet valve V10.

[0060] The hydraulic pressure supply part 200 may include the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 and the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220. The first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 may include pump units 211 and 212 and a drive unit 213 for driving the pump units 211 and 212. The second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 may include pump units 221 and 222 and a drive unit 223 for driving the pump units 221 and 222. One hydraulic pressure supply part may include two pump units. For example, the first hydraulic pressure supply part may include the drive unit 213 and the first and second pump units 211 and 212 driven by the drive unit 213. The second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 may include the drive unit 223 and the first and second pump units 221 and 222 driven by the drive unit 223. Each of the drive units 221 and 223 may be a brushless motor.

[0061] Although not shown in the drawing, the outlet port of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 may be connected to the outlet port of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 via a balance valve. As a result, a pressure of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 and a pressure of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 are adjusted so that a hydraulic pressure acting in the first hydraulic circuit and a hydraulic pressure acting in the second hydraulic circuit are identical to each other.

[0062] An electrical circuit may include a first electrical circuit S1 with a first electronic control unit (ECU) E1 and a second electrical circuit S2 with a second ECU E2. The first ECU S1 and the second ECU S2 may be electrical circuits supplied by only one power source or voltage source P1, respectively.

[0063] The first electrical circuit S1 can control the generation of brake pressure of the first wheel brake 21 and the generation of brake pressure of the third wheel brake 23. The second electrical circuit S2 can control the generation of brake pressure of the second wheel brake 22 and the generation of brake pressure of the fourth wheel brake 24. In this case, a communication interface for implementing communication between the first electrical circuit S1 and the second electrical circuit S2 can be additionally used. The communication interface can operate electrically independently of the first and second circuits S1 and S2.

[0064] The electrical circuit can also function as a parking brake integrated into the electrically operated wheel brake. The wheel brake can be connected to the first electrical circuit S1 and the second electrical circuit S2, which operate independently of each other, and can be driven in an integrated parking brake (IPB) scheme in which the wheel brake and the parking brake are integrated into one body. The first electrical circuit S1 can control the parking brake integrated into the fourth wheel brake 24, and the second electrical circuit S2 can control the parking brake integrated into the third wheel brake 23. In this case, the third wheel brake 23 and the fourth wheel brake 24 can be a pair of rear wheels RR and RL.

[0065] The first hydraulic pressure supply part 210, the first hydraulic circuit, and the first ECU E1 can be integrated into a first module. The second hydraulic pressure supply part 220, the second hydraulic circuit, and the second ECU E2 can be integrated into a second module. Furthermore, the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210, the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220, the first hydraulic circuit, and the second hydraulic circuit can also be integrated into a single module if necessary. Here, each module can be a physical valve block.

[0066] A first control valve V31 may be installed in the first hydraulic circuit and may connect the inlet port 210a and the outlet port 210b of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 to each other, such that the first control valve V31 can adjust a pressure in the inlet port and the outlet port of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210. A second control valve V32 may be installed in the second hydraulic circuit and may connect the inlet port 210a and the outlet port 210b of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 to each other, such that the second control valve V32 can adjust a pressure in the inlet port and the outlet port of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220.By adjusting the opening or closing of the first control valve V31 and the second control valve V32, a pressure generated before the hydraulic pressure supply part and a pressure generated after the hydraulic pressure supply part can be adjusted.

[0067] The above-mentioned electronic brake system according to the embodiments of the present disclosure can reduce costs for maintaining manufacturing lines, can simplify a structure of the assembly, can reduce the number of components, and can improve a connection structure between the components, thereby deflecting disadvantages of a brake system that is expensive to manufacture.

Referring to Fig. 2, the first electrical circuit S1 can receive voltage or power from a first voltage or power supply source P1 and can control the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210 and the first hydraulic circuit, thereby adjusting a braking pressure of the first wheel brake 21 and a braking pressure of the third wheel brake 23. The second electrical circuit S2 can receive voltage from a second voltage supply source P2 and can control the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220 and the second hydraulic circuit, thereby adjusting a braking pressure of the second wheel brake 22 and a braking pressure of the fourth wheel brake 24.

[0069] The inlet or outlet valve provided in the first hydraulic circuit and the inlet or outlet valve provided in the second hydraulic circuit can be powered by different power sources. That is, the first hydraulic circuit can be powered by the first power supply source P1, and the second hydraulic circuit can be powered by the second power supply source P2. The first reservoir valve V31 and the second reservoir valve V42 can be connected to the first power supply source P1 and the second power supply source P2 simultaneously. As a result, the first reservoir valve V41 and the second reservoir valve V42 can also be controlled by a remaining normal power supply source, even if one of the power supply sources is damaged or fails.

[0071] Fig. 3 is a view illustrating an electronic brake system according to a third embodiment of the present disclosure. Referring to Fig. 3, differently from the second embodiment, a flow passage structure for connecting the first hydraulic circuit and the third wheel brake 23 to each other and a flow passage structure for connecting the second hydraulic circuit and the fourth wheel brake 24 to each other are omitted in the electronic brake system of the third embodiment, so that the electronic brake system of the third embodiment can be simplified in structure compared with the second embodiment.

Referring to Fig.4, the pedal operating part 100 may include a piston 111, an elastic element 113, and pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b. The piston 111 may be connected to the pedal 10 or a rod and may be enclosed in a housing 112. The elastic element 113 may provide a reaction force corresponding to a pedal force to the pedal. The pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b may measure the driver's braking intention. In this case, the pedal operating part 100 may be integrated into a module consisting of the first hydraulic circuit and the second hydraulic circuit. The pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b may be integrated directly into the ECU.

[0073] The first reservoir chamber 31 provided in the first reservoir 30A may be connected to the inlet port 210a of the first hydraulic pressure supply part 210. The second reservoir chamber 32 provided in the second reservoir 30B may be connected to the inlet port 220a of the second hydraulic pressure supply part 220. The first reservoir chamber 31 may be installed in the first module, and the second reservoir chamber 32 may be installed in the second module.

[0074] The pedal operating part 100 may be connected to the pedal via the input rod 11. One end of the input rod 11 may be connected to the pedal such that the input rod 11 can perform a rectilinear movement corresponding to the displacement of the pedal 10. However, the input rod 11 may be connected to a specific point remote from a rotational shaft of the pedal 10, which may result in a slight vertical movement of the input rod 11.

[0075] The pedal operating part 100 can provide a reaction force corresponding to a pedal force of the pedal 10 depressed by the driver. Conversely, the pedal operating part 100 can also provide a reaction force corresponding to a pedal release force of the pedal 10. Together with the pedal force of the pedal depressed by the driver or a pedal release force, the pedal operating part 100 compensates for the pedal force or the release force and provides a reaction force corresponding to the compensated force, so that a braking force can be precisely adjusted as intended by the driver.

[0076] The pedal operating part 100 may include the piston 11 connected to the pedal 10, the housing 112 for forming a space in which the piston 111 moves forward and backward, an elastic member 113 for providing a reaction force corresponding to the pedaling force of the pedal 10, and a pedal spring 114 for providing an elastic force by which the pedal 10 is returned to its original position. In this case, the elastic member 113 may be formed of rubber or the like. The elastic member 113 can be changed in shape according to different designs.

[0077] The shape of the elastic member 113 shown in the drawing is only one example for providing an elastic force to the piston 111. The scope or spirit of the present disclosure is not limited thereto. It should be noted that the elastic member 113 may also be implemented in other shapes capable of storing an elastic force by changing its shape. For example, the elastic member 113 may be a coil spring or a leaf spring.

[0078] The pedal spring 114 can be elastically deformed by a forward movement of the pedal 10 and can be elastically returned by the backward movement of the pedal 10, thereby providing a restoring force for the pedal 10. The pedal spring 114 can provide a restoring force for the pedal 10 such that the pedal 10 moves back to its original position when the driver removes their foot from the pedal 10.

[0079] The pedal operating part 100 may be separated from the brake pressure supply device. For example, the brake pressure may be supplied only by the hydraulic pressure supply part 200, which will be described later, and the pedal force of the pedal 10 may only be supplied to the pedal operating part 100, making it impossible to directly generate brake pressure.

[0080] Alternatively, the pedal 10 may include a pedal force unit and a hydraulic pressure unit that are hydraulically separated from each other. The pedal force unit may be coupled to the pedal operating part 100. The hydraulic pressure unit may be coupled to the hydraulic pressure supply part 200, which generates hydraulic pressure for the wheel brake 20. In this case, the hydraulic separation between the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit may indicate that the pedal force of the pedal 10 is not directly transmitted to the wheel brake 20 via the operating fluid.

[0081] Alternatively, the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit may be mechanically separated from each other. In this case, the mechanical separation may indicate that power transmission via mechanical elements arranged between the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit is not associated with power transmission via hydraulic pressure. The pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit may be electrically connected to each other via the ECU and the pedal travel sensors 120a and 120b.

[0082] However, it should be noted that a mechanical separation between the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit does not always imply that the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit are not integrated into a single unit via a mechanical coupling therebetween. That is, the pedal force unit and the hydraulic pressure unit can be integrated into a single unit to reduce weight and volume.

[0083] As is apparent from the above description, the electronic braking system according to the embodiments of the present disclosure can enable an electronic stability control (ESC) to operate normally even if one of the electrical circuits fails to function in an automatic driving mode, such that the electronic braking system can be effectively operated as a modularized braking system.
