Abstract
A method for producing an amorphous metal foil using rapid solidification technology, comprising: providing a melt of an iron-based alloy; pouring the melt onto a moving outer surface of a moving heat sink, wherein the melt solidifies on the outer surface and forms an amorphous metal foil; continuously pressing a rolling device against the outer surface of the heat sink while the melt is poured onto the moving outer surface of the heat sink, with a pressure on the rolling device sufficient to smooth the outer surface of the heat sink, wherein the rolling device has a liner and, during the pouring of the melt onto a pouring track of the moving outer surface of the moving heat sink, the outer surface is protected from contamination with organic material, at least at the pouring track; and producing the amorphous metal foil.wherein the amorphous metal foil has a width of 2 mm to 300 mm, a thickness of less than 20 µm, and fewer than 50 holes per square meter.
