[0001] The present invention relates to a connector with cable cover. RELATED TECHNOLOGY

[0002] As this type of cable-covered connector, the cable-covered connector disclosed in JP 2002-25684 A comprises a housing having a terminal receiving chamber in which a terminal connected to a cable is received and a cable is pulled out from a rear surface, and a tubular cable cover attached to one side of the rear surface of the housing. The cable cover has a tubular cover body and a pair of opening and closing elements provided on the cover body by a hinge. The rear side of the inner surface of the pair of opening and closing elements is provided with a locking section for locking a bellows-shaped corrugated tube.

[0003] WO 2014 / 020402A1 discloses a connector comprising a housing that includes a connector receiving chamber configured to receive a connector connected to a cable, and a rear surface configured to allow the cable to exit the housing; and a water drain channel for draining liquid. SUMMARY

[0004] However, in the conventional connector with cable cover, water that runs down from the cable or corrugated conduit collects in a hollow groove of the housing, and the water cannot be removed.

[0005] One objective of the present invention is to provide a connector with cable cover that can drain water to the outside, even if the water coming down from a cable or the like will penetrate into the housing.

[0006] This objective is achieved by a connector with cable cover having the features of claim 1.

[0007] The connector with cable cover according to the present disclosure comprises a housing that includes a connector receiving chamber configured to receive a connector connected to a cable, and a rear surface configured to allow the cable to exit the housing; and a cable cover formed in a tubular shape and attached to a side of the rear surface. A water drainage channel is formed between a rear side of a side surface of the housing and a front side of an inner surface of the cable cover in a state in which the cable cover is attached to the housing.

[0008] According to the above configuration, it is possible to provide the connector with cable cover, which can drain water to the outside through the water drain channel, even if the water coming down from the cable or similar will penetrate into the housing. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0009] Various embodiments will be described below with reference to the attached drawings.

[0010] A description of one embodiment will follow, taking into account the drawings.

[0011] Fig. Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the connector with cable cover according to a present embodiment; Fig. Figure 2 is a perspective view illustrating a state before the connector's cable cover is attached; Fig. 3 is a top view of the connector with cable cover; Fig. Figure 4 is a side view of the connector with cable cover; Fig. Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view along the VV line in Fig. 3; Fig. Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view along the VI-VI line in Fig. 4; and Fig. Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view along the VII-VII line in Fig. 4.

[0012] For the sake of simplicity of description, a given direction in a connector 10 with cable cover is defined as the longitudinal direction, a given direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction is defined as the vertical direction, and a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and the vertical direction is defined as the width direction.

[0013] As in Fig. As illustrated in Figures 1 to 7, the connector 10 with cable cover comprises a female resin housing (case) 20, from which a cable 40 extends from a rear surface (back surface) 21b, and a tubular resin cable cover 30 attached to the rear surface 21b of the female housing 20. In the present embodiment, the longitudinal direction is a long side of the female housing 20, which is the direction in which the cable 40, to which a female terminal 41 is connected, is inserted into the female housing 20.

[0014] As in Fig. 5 and Fig. As illustrated in Figure 6, the female housing 20 comprises a housing body 21, a hood section 23, and a tubular front holder 24. The housing body 21 has two terminal receiving chambers 22, in which the female terminal 41, connected to the cable 40, is received. The hood section 23 is integrally formed with the center of the housing body 21 to project from it, and its front surface and upper surface are open to accommodate a male housing of a male connector of a mating part (not illustrated). The tubular front holder 24 is fitted into the front of the housing body 21 and has a terminal insert hole 24a, into which a male terminal of the mating part (not illustrated) is inserted, and a lance 24b for locking the female terminal 41.

[0015] As in Fig. As illustrated in Figure 6, the terminal receiving chamber 22 of the housing body 21 receives the female terminal 41, which is connected to the terminal of the cable 40, from a circular opening 22b of the terminal receiving chamber 22, which is provided on the rear surface 21b. The space between each terminal receiving chamber 22 and the cable 40 is sealed with a rubber plug 42, which is mounted on the cable 40. A front surface 21a of the housing body 21 is formed with a terminal insert hole 22a, into which the male terminal of the counterpart (not illustrated) is inserted to communicate with the terminal receiving chamber 22.

[0016] As in Fig. As illustrated in Figure 2, the rear end of both side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21, which are provided in the width direction of the housing 20, is formed with a recessed cover locking groove 25 as a cover locking section. A top surface of the housing body 21 is provided with a locking arm 26 for locking with the male housing of the mating part in a fitted position. An operating end 26a of the locking arm is provided on the rear side of the upper opening of the hood section 23. In addition, the rear end of a lower surface 21e of the housing 20 is provided with a cover mounting projection 27 as a cover mounting section.

[0017] As in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 5 and Fig. As illustrated in Figure 7, the cable cover 30 comprises an essentially semi-cylindrical body cover 31, an essentially semi-cylindrical lid cover 35, and a hinge 39. The essentially semi-cylindrical body cover 31 is attached to the recessed cover locking groove 25 on the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21. The essentially semi-cylindrical lid cover 35 is attached to the cover mounting projection 27 on the lower surface 21e of the housing 20 in a tubular state in which the essentially semi-cylindrical lid cover 35 is integrated with the body cover 31, and the essentially semi-cylindrical lid cover 31 covers the front end of a corrugated tube 45 through which the cable 40 passes. The hinge 39 is provided between the body cover 31 and the lid cover 35.

[0018] As in Fig. 2 and Fig. As illustrated in Figure 5, the front side of the body cover 31 is integrally formed with a pair of mounting sections 32 extending vertically parallel to each other. The inner side of each mounting section 32 is provided with a projecting housing locking projection 32a, which fits into the recessed cover locking groove 25 of the housing body 21. An inner surface 31a of the body cover 31 is provided with a recessed portion 33 that locks onto a bellows-shaped projecting portion 45a of the corrugated tube 45. Furthermore, the end portion of the body cover 31 opposite the hinge 39 is formed with a locking hole 34.

[0019] As in Fig. As illustrated in Figure 6, semicircular stepped recessed sections 31b are formed on both front sides of the inner surface 31a of the body cover 31, which are attached to the rear side of the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21. A gap (free space) formed between the stepped recessed sections 31b of the inner surface 31a of the body cover 31 and the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21 serves as a water drainage channel A. The water drainage channel A communicates with a gap B between the inner circumferential surface of the recessed section 33 for holding the corrugated tube on the inner surface 31a of the body cover and the outer circumferential surface of the corrugated tube 45.Furthermore, since the cable cover 39 is configured to be attached to the cover locking grooves 25, which are provided to the right and left of the housing body 21 of the female housing 20, and to the cover mounting projection 27, which is provided below, in the present embodiment the gap (water drain channel A) formed between the stepped recessed parts 31b of the inner surface 31a of the body cover 31 and the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21 can be provided between the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21 and the inner surface 31a of the body cover 31 of the cable cover 30.

[0020] As in Fig. As illustrated in Figure 5, the front side of an inner surface 35a of the cover 35 is formed with a recessed housing mounting groove 36 as a housing mounting section that fits into the cover mounting projection 27 of the housing body 21. The inner surface 35a of the cover 35 is provided with a recessed portion 37 that locks onto the bellows-shaped projecting portion 45a of the corrugated tube 45. Furthermore, as shown in Fig.Figure 2 illustrates that the end part of the lid cover 35 opposite the hinge 39 is formed with a locking projection 38 which engages with the locking hole 34. When the body cover 31 and the lid cover 35 are integrated into a tubular shape, a stepped part 36a, formed in the front part of the outer surface of the lid cover 35, fits into a notched part 32b, formed on the side of the lower end of the attachment section 32 on the outer surface of the body cover 31.

[0021] According to the connector 10 with cable cover of the embodiment described above, if water penetrates the side of the rear surface 21b of the housing body 21 of the female housing 20 through the inner circumferential surface of the corrugated tube 45 or the outer circumferential surface of the cable 40, the water does not collect at the opening 22b of the terminal receiving chamber 22 on the rear surface 21b of the housing body 21, but is drained to the outside through the water drain channel A, which is provided between the two side surfaces 21c of the housing body 21 and the inner surface 31a of the body cover 31 of the cable cover 30. In this way, water does not collect around the rubber plug 42 in the terminal receiving chamber 22 of the housing body 21, and the ingress of water from the corrugated tube 45 or the cable 40 into the terminal receiving chamber 22 of the housing body 21 can be reliably prevented.

[0022] Although the present invention has been described above by reference to the embodiment, the present invention is not limited to those embodiments and the configuration of parts can be replaced with any configuration that has a similar function, as long as it is within the scope of the claims.
