Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a knife.
[0002] Such a knife is known from prior public use. It comprises a housing and a blade carrier movable within the housing between a safety position and at least one cutting position. A spring biases the blade carrier into the safety position. In the cutting position, the blade emerges from a front housing opening and protrudes beyond the housing with a blade extension length, enabling a cutting operation. The blade extension length can be adjusted by sliding the blade carrier forward on an actuating part. During the cutting operation, the blade carrier had to be held in the cutting position.
[0003] US Pat. No. 5,813,121 A discloses a knife with a housing and a blade carrier slidably mounted within the housing. The blade carrier is movable between a rear and a front position. In the rear position, the blade is retracted into the housing; in the front position, the blade protrudes from the housing. According to one embodiment, the blade carrier can be locked into locking positions on the housing. According to an alternative embodiment, the blade carrier is spring-loaded and must be moved by the user into the cutting position against the spring force.
[0004] US 2015 / 0013171 A1 describes a knife with a housing and a blade carrier that is movable within the housing. The blade carrier can be moved longitudinally within the housing using an actuator. A spring is connected to the housing and the blade carrier. A function switch allows selection between a locking mode and a retraction mode.
[0005] DE 33 25 552 A1 relates to a knife with a housing 16, 17 and a blade 11 held in a sliding block 12. The housing's long sides have an elongated hole and a toothing 54 thereon. A thrust element 15 in the form of an adjusting screw passes through a bore in a toothed web 55, which is loaded against the toothing 54 by a spring supported on a screw head and on the toothed web 55. The thread of the thrust element engages a thread of the sliding block 12. A spring 21 loads the blade 11 into the housing. The sliding block and blade can thus be adjusted and secured in the longitudinal direction of the knife.
[0006] DE 102 546 A relates to a pocket knife comprising a housing with a receiving space and two blades that can be moved separately between a locked position and a cutting position. Each blade is spring-loaded into the locked position, in which it is arranged in the receiving space. The blade can be locked in the cutting position by means of a locking pin that engages behind a rear end of the blade. During locking, the other blade, if in the cutting position, is released and moved by the spring into the locked position.
[0007] DE 20 2005 018 728 U1 relates to a knife with a blade that is slidably mounted within the housing. The blade is mounted in a blade holder, which can be moved up to a stop that defines the maximum blade extension length. The stop is adjustable and can be fixed to the housing with a force fit. A locking mechanism is not provided.
[0008] US 2015 0013171 A1 relates to a knife with a housing and a blade carrier that can be moved within the housing. The blade carrier is spring-loaded into a locking position, with the blade arranged within the housing. The knife can be adjusted between an auto-retract mode and a multi-stop mode. In auto-retract mode, the blade is retracted into the locking position by a spring when the force on an actuator 42 decreases.
[0009] In multi-stop mode, the blade carrier can be locked in one of several recesses in the housing. In this knife mode, the rack 62 and the spring plate 63 are moved upward relative to the locking steps 65 such that the projection 411 of the actuator is located in the path of movement of the projections 67 of the rack 62. The movement of the actuator is blocked. To release the blockage, the actuator 42 can be moved out of engagement with the projections 67 against the force of the spring 44, so that the blade length can be adjusted.
[0010] The knife according to DE 10 2021 125 354 A1 comprises a housing with a blade guide 20 in which a blade 30 connected to a slider 40 is movably guided within the housing. At least one recess 13 is formed on the housing, with which a locking member of the slider can be moved to engage in order to prevent unintentional extension of the blade.
[0011] DE 10 2012 017 431 A1 describes a knife comprising a housing with a guide, in which a blade carrier with an actuating lug is movable between a safety position and a cutting position. A spring biases the blade into the safety position.
[0012] The object of the invention was to create a knife that is further improved in terms of its handling.
[0013] The problem was solved by a knife having the features of claim 1.
[0014] The knife comprises a housing. A blade carrier, in which a blade can be fastened, is movable on the housing between a safety position, in which the blade carrier is arranged in a rearward position such that the blade does not protrude beyond protective means formed by the housing, and at least one cutting position, in which the blade—i.e., also an edge of the blade—protrudes beyond the protective means. In the cutting position, a cutting operation can be carried out. Protective means, in the sense of the invention, are means that prevent the user from coming into contact with the edge of the blade and thereby injuring themselves.
[0015] Spring means are arranged between the housing and the blade carrier and bias the blade carrier into the safety position. The blade carrier comprises first locking means that can be releasably engaged with second locking means formed on the housing to lock the blade carrier in the safety position and / or in at least one cutting position. The locking means form, for example, a lock with which the blade carrier can be locked in at least two cutting positions.
[0016] An advantage of the combination of features according to the invention is that the blade carrier can be locked in at least one cutting position and therefore does not have to be held against the force of the spring. Furthermore, the locking mechanism allows, for example, the blade carrier to be secured in the safety position.
[0017] The first locking means comprise at least one lock movable between a locking position and a release position. In the locking position, movement of the blade carrier is locked; therefore, it cannot move in one of two opposite directions of its movement path. In the release position, the blade carrier is freely movable in both directions of movement. The locking means may comprise more than one lock, e.g., two locks.
[0018] The bolt is guided, for example, for translational movement between the locking position and the release position. For example, the bolt is guided along a path that has significant movement components that are directed transversely to the direction of movement of the blade carrier. The bolt is guided, for example, along a straight or curved path.
[0019] The second locking means comprise at least one, in particular at least two locking seats. The second locking means comprise, for example, a plurality of locking seats. The blade carrier can then be locked with different blade extension lengths. Each locking seat corresponds, for example, to a specific blade extension length, with the proviso that the blade extension length is zero in at least one safety position. The locking seat is formed, for example, by a recess or a projection in the housing. The recess or projection forms, for example, abutment surfaces for the locking bolt, so that movement of the blade carrier is prevented. The locking bolt has, for example, a complementary structure that positively engages with the locking seat in the locking position.
[0020] The housing includes a slot-like lateral opening extending in the direction of movement of the blade carrier. A connection between the blade carrier and an actuating part passes through the lateral opening. The blade carrier can be easily actuated via the lateral opening. The lateral opening extends in the direction of movement of the blade carrier. The actuating part is, for example, connected to the blade carrier for movement.
[0021] The second locking means are arranged adjacent to the lateral opening, for example, and offset in the direction of movement of the blade carrier. This makes it possible to lock the blade carrier in the adjusted position. Locking is easy to perform because the first locking means and the second locking means are located close to one another.
[0022] The second locking means are arranged on the housing, for example, so that they are visible from the outside. In this case, the user can visually monitor the locking action. This makes it easy to determine whether the locking position is securely set. This increases the knife's safety, as false locking is less likely to occur. The design also offers the possibility of providing a scale on the housing, for example, on which the blade extension length can be read. This makes setting the desired blade extension length easier.
[0023] The first locking means can be locked, for example, with a safety device. A safety device can lock the first locking means to prevent accidental release of the bolt from the second locking means. The safety device has, for example, a blocking means that is movable, for example, along a track on which the blocking means can move. The track is provided, for example, with a locking seat into which the blocking means engage in the locked position. In order to then adjust the first locking means to the release position and thereby move the blocking means out of the locking seat, additional force must be applied.
[0024] The direction of force required to release the locking device from its locking position differs, for example, from the direction of movement of the first locking device between the locking position and the release position. A force acting on the locking device in the direction of the release position cannot inadvertently move the locking device into the release position. The locking device is made of metal, for example, to prevent wear or deformation and the associated potential functional failure.
[0025] The first locking means include, for example, a pressure piece as a blocking means, which is connected to the bolt for movement and is loaded by spring means against a securing surface of the blade carrier. The bolt cannot easily be released from the locked position because the pressure piece must be moved over a threshold or a ledge, for example, to release the bolt.
[0026] The locking surface includes, for example, at least one positioning area for the pressure piece. Positioning areas are provided for the locking position and the release position, for example. This means that the locking bolt cannot be easily moved out of position. For example, a resistance must be overcome to adjust the locking bolt between the locking position and the release position.
[0027] At least one first positioning range is separated from a second positioning range, for example, by a threshold or a step, and the threshold or step must be overcome during movement between the first positioning range and the second positioning range. As mentioned above, the direction of force required to overcome the step can be different from the direction of force required to adjust the latch. Instead of a step, an incline can be formed between the first positioning range and the second positioning range.
[0028] For example, the housing forms guide means for guiding the blade carrier. For example, the housing forms guide structures for guiding the blade carrier and the blade.
[0029] For example, the guide is made of a different material than a part of the housing. For example, the blade and, if applicable, part of the blade carrier are guided in a metal guide. The guide elements can be connected to each other, for example, by fastening or by overmolding with plastic.
[0030] The housing includes, for example, a guide rail as a guide means in which the blade carrier is guided. The guide rail can, for example, essentially guide the blade. It can be constructed as a metal part, for example. However, other suitable materials can also be used alternatively. The guide rail is designed, for example, in such a way that the user cannot touch the cutting edge of the blade when the cutting edge is positioned within the guide rail. The guide rail thus also serves a safety function.
[0031] A locking part can be attached to the housing, which can be used to block a rear opening in the guide rail. The locking part can be moved, for example, between an open and a closed position. For example, to remove the blade carrier, the locking part can be moved to the open position. In the closed position, the blade carrier cannot pass through the rear opening.
[0032] The housing comprises, for example, a casing portion, in which the guide rail is at least partially accommodated. For improved handling, the casing portion forms, for example, a gripping portion by which the knife can be held. The casing portion is made of plastic, for example. For example, the guide rail is overmolded with plastic or the guide rail is pressed into a casing portion. In the latter embodiment, the casing portion can also be made of plastic. This allows for simple manufacturing and flexible shaping of the knife.
[0033] The second locking means are formed, for example, in the casing region and / or in the guide rail. If the second locking means are formed in the casing region, they can be easily molded with the casing region. If the second locking means are formed in the guide rail, they are arranged, for example, adjacent to the lateral opening. The aforementioned formation on the casing region or in the guide rail facilitates the visual perception of the second locking means.
[0034] One end of the spring is connected, for example, to coupling means which can be brought into engagement with coupling means of the blade carrier. For example, the spring is held at one end region on the housing and at another end region on a carriage. The carriage comprises coupling means which can be releasably brought into engagement with coupling means of the blade carrier. The coupling means can, for example, be designed such that when the blade carrier moves towards the cutting position, the carriage and thus the spring end attached to it are carried along, tensioning the spring. It is then easy to decouple the blade carrier from the spring and remove it from the housing, for example to change the blade.
[0035] Embodiments of the invention are described by way of example in the following description of the figures, also with reference to the drawings. For the sake of clarity, identical or comparable parts, elements, or regions are designated by identical reference numerals, sometimes with the addition of lowercase letters, even where different embodiments are concerned.
[0036] Features described only with reference to one embodiment may also be provided in any other embodiment of the invention within the scope of the invention. Such modified embodiments are encompassed by the invention, even if they are not shown in the drawings.
[0037] They show: Fig. 1 a side view of the knife in the safety position, Fig. 2 a side view in a first cutting position, wherein the locking device is in the release position, Fig. 3 a side view according to Fig. 2, wherein the locking device is set in the locking position, Fig. 4 a side view in a second cutting position, wherein the locking device is in the release position, Fig. 5 a side view according to Fig. 4, wherein the locking device is in the locking position, Fig. 6 an exploded view of the knife, whereby the jacket area of the knife is not shown, Fig. 7 an exploded view of the blade carrier, Fig. 8 a perspective view of the knife, with the sheath area not shown and the blade carrier removed from the guide rail, Fig. 9 a side view of the knife according to Fig. 8, Fig. 10 a sectional view according to section line A - A in Fig. 9, Fig. 11 a side view of the knife according to Fig. 1, wherein the casing area is not shown and the locking device is in the release position, Fig. 12 a sectional view according to section line B - B in Fig. 11, Fig. 13 a side view of the blade carrier and the slide, Fig. 14 a sectional view according to section line C - C in Fig. 13, Fig. 15 a side view of the knife according to Fig. 4, where the jacket area and the closure part are not shown, Fig. 16 a sectional view according to section line D - D in Fig. 15, Fig. 17 a sectional view according to section line E - E in Fig. 5, Fig. 18 a sectional view according to section line F - F in Fig. 4.
[0038] A knife as a whole is designated in the figures by the reference numeral 10. The knife comprises a housing 11 with a casing region 12 and a guide rail 13, which is partially surrounded by the casing region 12.
[0039] In Fig. Figure 1 shows a side view of the knife. It can be seen that the guide rail 13 is C-shaped and has folds 24a and 24b with free ends 40a and 40b, which form a lateral opening 23 between them. When a blade 16 is fully inserted into the guide rail 13, a cutting edge 39 is inaccessible to the user. The blade 16 is guided between a wall 24 and the folds 24a and 24b.
[0040] The housing 11 further comprises the casing region 12, which forms a gripping region by which the knife 10 can be grasped. The casing region 12 leaves open the lateral opening 23 as well as a movement area of an actuation 15 for a blade carrier 14, in which the blade 16 is mounted. Adjacent to the free end 40a, a plurality of second locking means 18 are formed in the casing region 12 of the housing 11, offset along the lateral opening 23. In the present example, the second locking means 18 have the form of recesses 32. The recesses 32 have opposing abutment surfaces 41a, 41b.
[0041] At a rear end region 25, the housing 11 has a closure part 21, with which a Fig. 1, the rear opening of the guide rail 13 (not shown) can be closed. The closing part 21 forms pivot joints 30a and 30b with the housing 11. In this way, the closing part 21 can be pivoted between a closed position, in which access to the rear opening is blocked, and an open position, in which the rear opening is passable. The closed position can be locked and unlocked by means of a housing latch 22 of the closing part 21, which cooperates with locking means on the casing region 12.
[0042] The blade 16 and a part of the blade carrier 14 are guided in the guide rail 13 so as to be movable in the directions x1 and x2. By means of the actuation 15, which is connected to the blade carrier 14 or formed by it, the blade carrier 14 can be adjusted by the user in the directions x1 and x2 relative to the housing 11. During the movement, the blade carrier 14 is guided by the guide rail 13. In this way, depending on how far the blade carrier 14 is moved in the direction x1, different blade exit lengths I can be set, where "I" denotes the blade length that projects beyond a front edge 42 of the guide rail 13 (see the Fig. 2 to 5). The blade 16 emerges from a front opening 20 at a front end region 19 of the housing 11.
[0043] A spring 26 (in Fig. 1 not recognizable, see Fig. 2) loads the blade carrier 14 in direction x2 into the Fig. 1, in which a cutting edge 39 of the blade 16 is not accessible to the user. The spring 26 is attached to the housing 11 by a fastening 27 and forms a fastening 28 with a carriage 29. The fastening 28 and the carriage 29 are in Fig. 2 is not visible. As soon as the force applied by the user in direction x1, which holds the blade carrier 14 in a cutting position, decreases, the blade carrier 14 is pulled by the spring 26 in direction x2 into the safety position.
[0044] With a locking device having first locking means 17 of the blade carrier 14 and second locking means 18 of the housing 11, the blade carrier 14 can be secured in one of a plurality of locking positions relative to the housing 11. The first locking means 17 comprise a latch 31 movable between a locking position and a release position. In the locking position, the latch 31 engages with one of the recesses 32. In the locking position, movement of the blade carrier 14 in one of the directions x1 and x2 is not possible. In the release position, the latch 31 is disengaged from the recesses 32.
[0045] Since the recesses 32 are located to the side of the movement path of the blade carrier 14, the latch 31 only needs to travel a short distance between the locking position and the release position. As can be seen in Fig. 1, the latch 31 has a curved longitudinal center axis and can be moved along a correspondingly slightly curved path between the locking position and the release position. This has the advantage that the latch 31 can be moved ergonomically and creates a unique visual impression.
[0046] According to Fig. 1, the blade carrier 14 is arranged in the safety position. The locking device is in the locking position. This means that the blade carrier 14 cannot be moved in the direction x1 into the cutting position. A movement in the direction x2 is not possible from the safety position anyway, since the stop means of the blade carrier 14 and the locking part 21 prevent this as long as the locking part 21 is in the closed position. In order for the blade carrier 14 to be movable, the locking bar 31 must be in the release position according to Fig. 2 can be adjusted.
[0047] The locking device 50 (see the Fig. 17 and Fig. 18) comprises a securing device 62 for the bolt 31 in the locking position. This prevents the bolt 31 from inadvertently moving from the locking position to the release position. The securing device 62 comprises a pressure piece 33, which is loaded by a spring 35 in the direction z1 against a securing surface 36. The securing surface 36 comprises positioning areas 37 and 38, which are separated from each other by a step 43. The pressure piece 33 is connected to the bolt 31 in a movement-related manner, so that when the bolt 31 moves from the locking position to the release position, it moves from the positioning area 37 to the positioning area 38 (see Fig. 18). In doing so, the pressure piece 33 must overcome the step 43 while moving in direction z2 against the spring force of the spring 35, which requires increased force when adjusting the bolt 31. This prevents unintentional adjustment.
[0048] In Fig. 6, the guide rail 13 of the housing 11, the blade carrier 14 and a carriage 29 are shown in perspective. The casing area 12, the closure part 21 and the blade 16 are shown in Fig. 6 not shown. The carriage 29 comprises a driver 53, which forms a coupling element that interacts with a coupling element of the blade carrier 14. With the attachment 28 formed on the carriage 29, an end portion of the spring 26 can be attached to the carriage 29. An elongated hole 54 can be seen in the guide rail 13, the function of which will be explained further below.
[0049] Fig. Figure 7 shows an exploded view of the blade carrier 14. The blade carrier 14 comprises an upper part 44 and a lower part 45. The upper part 44 has the actuation 15. Furthermore, the bolt 31 and the pressure piece 33 are movably mounted in the bolt seat 34 on the upper part 44. The spring 35 for loading the pressure piece 33 is in Fig. 7 not shown. Also held on the upper part 44 are retaining means 46, here in the form of locking arms, which interact with the lower part 45.
[0050] A projection 47 of the upper part 44 comprises abutment surfaces 52, of which Fig. 7, only one abutment surface 52 can be seen. The abutment surfaces 52 engage under the folds 24a and 24b to prevent a pivoting movement of the upper part 44 relative to the lower part 45 when the blade carrier 14 is located in the guide rail 13.
[0051] The lower part 45 comprises counter-holding means 48, here in the form of a locking pin, which is designed to engage with the holding means 46 in order to pivotally hold the upper part 44 and the lower part 45 together. The lower part 45 is provided with a recess 49 for receiving the projection 47. Form-locking means 51 are designed for the form-locking retention of the blade 16 on the lower part 45. In this embodiment, the form-locking means 51 have the shape of a pin, which is suitable for engaging a recess in the blade 16.
[0052] The blade 16 can be held between a support surface 55 of the lower part 45 and a surface (not shown) of the upper part 44 when the blade carrier 14 is in a holding position. The movement of the blade carrier 14 into a change position is only possible if the blade carrier 14 has previously been removed from the guide rail 13.
[0053] In Fig. 8, the carriage 29 is held on an underside of the guide rail 13 in such a way that the driver 53 engages through the elongated hole 54 and projects into the path of movement of the blade carrier 14. The elongated hole 54 defines the path of movement of the driver 53 and thus also of the carriage 29 connected to the driver 53 in a slotted manner. The blade carrier 14 can be inserted into the guide rail 13 in the direction x1 through an opening 56 in the rear end region 25 of the guide rail 13. If a driver surface of the blade carrier 14 comes into contact with the driver 53, the spring 26 is tensioned upon further movement of the blade carrier 14 in the direction x1 and a force acts on the blade carrier 14 in the direction x2.
[0054] According to Fig. 9, the carriage 29 is mounted on the guide rail 13. The casing area 12 of the knife 10 is not shown for clarity. The blade carrier 14 is disassembled and can be pushed into the guide rail 13 in direction x1. The abutment surfaces 52 of the blade carrier 14 then engage under guide surfaces 57 of the guide rail 13 (see Fig. 10) and prevent movement of the blade carrier 14 into the open position.
[0055] In Fig. 10 shows the driving surface 58 on the blade carrier 14, which interacts with the driver 53 of the carriage. The carriage 29 is designed to slide along a lower surface 59 of the guide rail 13. In Fig. 10 shows the first fastening 27, with which the spring 26 is connected to the guide rail, and the second fastening 28 of the spring 26 to the carriage 29. It is conceivable that the spring 26 is tensioned when the driver 53 moves in direction x1. In the present example, the fastening 27 is formed by a hook element of the guide rail, into which an eyelet of the spring 26 is hooked. The fastening 28 is formed by a hook element of the carriage 29, to which an eyelet of another end region of the spring 26 is hooked.
[0056] According to Fig. 11, the blade carrier 14 is mounted in the guide rail 13. The blade 16 is shown with a broken line. The blade 16 (see Fig. 12) also slides on the guide surface 57. At the front end region 19, the distance between an inner surface 60 of the guide rail 13 and the lower surface decreases in order to guide the blade 16 in this region.
[0057] In the Fig. 13 and Fig. 14 only the blade carrier 14 and the slide 29 are shown in an enlarged size.
[0058] In the Fig. 15 and Fig. 16, the blade carrier 14 is arranged in the frontmost position, thus the blade 16 has the maximum exit length I. The driver 53 is moved to an end region 63 of the elongated hole 54 opposite the end region 61. It can be seen that the spring 26 is positioned below the lower surface 59.
[0059] According to the Fig. 17 and Fig. 18 the locking device can be seen. In Fig. 17, the latch 31 is engaged with one of the recesses 32 in the locking position. The pressure piece 33 is pressed by the spring 35 against the safety surface 36 of the blade carrier 14. To move the latch 17 in direction y1 into the release position, the pressure piece 33 must be moved from the position area 37 to the position area 38, thereby overcoming the step 43, which requires increased force. Fig. 18, the latch 17 is in the release position. The pressure piece 33 is in contact with the positioning area 38. The movement of the latch 17 in direction y2 into the locking position can occur without increased force because the pressure piece 33 is moved down the step 43.
[0060] The function of the knife 10 is described below. To move the blade 16 from the safety position according to Fig. 1 into any cutting position, the latch 31 is to be moved into the release position and the blade carrier 14 is to be moved against the spring force of the spring 26 in the direction x1 until, for example, one of the positions according to Fig. 2 or Fig. 4 is reached. Then the latch 31 can be adjusted in direction y2 into the latch position by moving it into engagement with a recess 32.
[0061] Since the recesses 32 are visible to the user, it is also possible to visually determine whether the latch 31 is in the locking position. In addition, the user receives haptic feedback when the pressure piece 33 moves down the step 43 when the latch 31 is moved from the release position to the locking position.
[0062] In order to carry out a blade change, the blade carrier 14 is first moved into the safety position according to Fig. 1 is adjusted and the latch 31 is moved into the locked position. The blade 16 is then received in the guide rail 13 of the housing 11 in such a way that the user cannot come into contact with the cutting edge 39. The housing latch 22 is opened, and the locking part 21 is pivoted relative to the housing 11, so that the rear opening 56 of the guide rail 13 is no longer blocked by the locking part 21.
[0063] The blade carrier 14 can then first be unlocked by moving the latch 31 into the release position and then removed from the guide rail 13 via the rear opening 56 (see Fig.10). Since the driving surface 58 of the blade carrier 14 and the driver 53 of the slide 29 represent coupling elements that easily allow the driving surface 58 to be released from the driver 53 in the direction x2, the blade carrier 14 can be removed from the housing 11 while the slide 29 remains attached to the housing 11. The driver 53 is moved by the spring 26 to the end region 61 of the elongated hole 54.
[0064] After changing the blade, assembly is carried out in reverse order, with the blade carrier 14 with the blade 16 being inserted into the guide rail 13 and the latch 31 being moved into the locking position. The locking part 21 is then pivoted back into a closed position, in which the rear opening 56 is blocked. The housing latch 22 automatically locks onto the housing 11 in the closed position.
