Description

[0001] The invention relates to a coil comprising a sleeve and two discs, wherein both discs have a connecting piece provided with a thread which cooperates with threads of the sleeve, and locking elements are provided on the end faces of the sleeve which correspond to locking elements in the base of the connecting pieces.

[0002] Reels of the type discussed here are used for winding and unwinding cables, chains, ropes, tapes, etc. One such reel is known from DE 39 02 108 A1. The reel consists of a sleeve and two discs. To withstand the significant forces that occur during transport of the reel, the connection between the sleeve and the discs requires high stability. Furthermore, the connection must be torsionally rigid.

[0003] To connect the sleeve and the discs, both ends of the sleeve are threaded. The discs are each provided with a stud, each of which is provided with a thread. When assembled, the threads on both sides engage with each other in a form-fitting, screw-type manner. In addition, corresponding locking elements are formed on the front ends of the sleeve and in the base of the studs. One locking element is designed as a flexible locking tongue that locks against the screwing direction, and the other locking element is designed as a locking edge.

[0004] The known spool meets the requirements placed on it. However, during use, it has become apparent that winding the material to be wound, such as wire, tape, rope, or the like, onto the spool is often difficult because the end of the material to be wound cannot find a hold on the core at the beginning of the winding process.

[0005] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a reel that facilitates the winding of the material. According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of patent claim 1.

[0006] The invention provides a reel that facilitates the winding of the material. This is achieved by the tapered shape of the opening in the sleeve allowing the material to be clamped, so that the end of the material is threaded into the opening at the beginning of the winding process and clamped in the tip of the opening.

[0007] It is advantageous to provide the opening with a gap-like extension. This extension improves the clamping effect by creating a narrow gap.

[0008] In a further development of the invention, two openings are provided, which are arranged opposite each other at a 180° offset. This makes it possible to clamp the material to be wound in both openings, further improving its grip on the spool at the beginning of the winding process.

[0009] Further developments and refinements of the invention are specified in the remaining subclaims. An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing and described in detail below. They show: Fig. 1 the view of a coil with sleeve and discs; Fig. 2 the section along the line AA in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 the side view of the Fig. 1 coil shown; Fig. 4 the section along the line BB in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 the enlarged view of detail “C” from Fig. 4; Fig. 6 the view of the sleeve; Fig. 7 the top view of the Fig. 6 sleeve shown; Fig. 8 the section along the line AA in Fig. 6; Fig. 9 the enlarged view of detail “C” from Fig. 6; Fig. 10 the enlarged view of detail “B” from Fig. 6; Fig. 11 the three-dimensional representation of the Fig. 6 shown sleeve; Fig. 12 the view of the inside of a pane; Fig. 13 the section along the line AA in Fig. 12; Fig. 14 the side view of the Fig. 12 shown disc; Fig. 15 the section along the line BB in Fig. 12; Fig. 16 the view of the outside of the disc; Fig. 17 the three-dimensional representation of the inside of the Fig. 12 shown sleeve; Fig. 18 the three-dimensional representation of the outside of the Fig. 12 shown sleeve; Fig. 19 the enlarged view of detail “C” from Fig. 12.

[0010] The coil chosen as an example comprises a sleeve 1 and two discs 2. The sleeve 1 and the discs 2 are made of plastic. In the example, the discs 2 are provided with reinforcing ribs 14 on their opposite (outer) sides. Furthermore, the discs 2 are provided with recesses 15 on their mutually facing (inner) sides.

[0011] A connecting piece 3 is formed centrally on each of the discs 2, each provided with an internal thread 4. Accordingly, the two ends of the sleeve 1 each have an external thread 5. The external threads 5 can be screwed into the internal threads 4 of the connecting pieces 3 in a form-fitting manner. In a modification of the exemplary embodiment, a reversed arrangement is of course also possible, in which the external thread is located on the connecting piece 3 and the internal thread is located in the sleeve 1.

[0012] At the front end 6 of the sleeve 1, at least one substantially L-shaped slot 7 is provided. The slot 7 comprises a leg 9 extending approximately in the circumferential direction. The slot 7 separates a locking tongue 10 that protrudes beyond the front end 6. In the exemplary embodiment, two locking tongues 10 are shown, positioned 180° apart from each other. In a modification of the exemplary embodiment, more locking tongues 10 can also be provided.

[0013] Each nozzle 3 has a base 12. In the base 12 of each nozzle 2, notches 13 are formed corresponding to the locking tongues 10, each having a locking edge. These notches are arranged to match the locking tongues 10 such that when the external thread 5 is fully screwed into the internal thread 4 of the nozzle 3, the locking tongues 10 engage the notches 13, and the locking edges prevent the thread from rotating backward.

[0014] With the design described above, the connection between sleeve 1 and the respective disc 2 is completely secure. The forces are safely absorbed by the large surface area of the threads. The locking tabs 10 serve the sole purpose of preventing the sleeve from turning backwards. Consequently, the load on the locking tabs is minimal, so even small-format locking tabs are perfectly adequate.

[0015] Fig.Figure 1 shows locking tabs 10 that are movable in the axial direction of the sleeve 1. Of course, the design of locking tabs 10 that are movable in the radial direction is also possible. In this case, the notches 13 in the base 12 of the sockets 3 are designed as circumferential slots. It is also possible to provide the locking tabs in the base of the sockets and the notches on the sleeve.

[0016] At least one opening 16 is formed in the sleeve 1, which essentially has the shape of a circular segment. In the exemplary embodiment, two openings 16 are provided. The opening 16 is provided with a gap-like extension 17. The extension 17 directly adjoins the tip of the opening 16, which is essentially shaped like a circular segment.

[0017] The opening 16 is used to thread the winding material in the form of ropes, wires, bands, chains, etc. At the beginning of the winding process, one end of the winding material is threaded through the opening 16 into the interior of the sleeve 1 and inserted a short distance into the sleeve. The winding material is then moved towards the extension 17 so that it enters the extension. Due to the narrow width of the gap-like extension, the winding material is clamped in the extension as long as the diameter of the winding material is smaller than or equal to the width of the extension. In this way, the material to be wound is reliably held on the spool, which facilitates winding.

[0018] The two openings in the sleeve can also be positioned 180° apart, thus facing each other. In this case, it's possible to thread the end of the material to be wound through both openings and clamp it in the extension. This further increases the clamping force.
