AI Technical Summary
Existing air filter arrangements in motor vehicles require separate filters for interior air and compressed air systems, such as brake systems, leading to increased space and material costs, as well as additional maintenance efforts.
A single air filter arrangement is used for both interior air filtration and compressed air filtration, with two air lines connected downstream of the filter, allowing filtered air to be directed to either the interior or pneumatic consumers like the brake system.
This solution reduces the need for multiple filters, saving space, material, and maintenance costs, while ensuring effective filtration for both interior air quality and pneumatic system requirements.

Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to an air filter arrangement of a motor vehicle according to the preamble of claim 1, as well as a motor vehicle.
[0002] A generic air filter assembly for a motor vehicle is known from CN 213 138 435 U. Unfiltered outside air is passed through an air filter, compressed by a compressor, and stored in a gas tank. From this gas tank, the interior of the vehicle is supplied with filtered air.
[0003] Lighter vehicles, such as cars, typically have a hydraulic braking system. Other vehicles, such as trucks or buses, typically have a compressed air braking system, air suspension, pneumatic door control, or similar devices that use filtered air to operate.
[0004] The invention is based on the object of providing a generic air filter assembly that is designed to be as space-saving and economical as possible. Furthermore, the invention is based on the object of providing a motor vehicle that can be manufactured and operated as economically as possible.
[0005] This object is achieved by an air filter arrangement according to claim 1 and by a motor vehicle according to claim 7. Advantageous embodiments are described in the subclaims.
[0006] In other words, the invention proposes using the air filter both to clean the interior air and to clean the compressed working air, e.g. brake air. Accordingly, two air lines are connected downstream of the air filter, so either the line that connects to the clean air outlet of the air filter branches off, or the air filter has a second clean air outlet. A first of the two air lines leads the filtered air to the interior, while the second air line leads the filtered air to the compressor, which according to the invention does not serve to provide compressed air for the interior, but rather to provide compressed air for a pneumatic consumer. The invention is based on the consideration that both filters of pneumatic consumers, such asBoth a brake air filter and a cabin air filter have similar volume flow and pressure loss characteristics, allowing a single air filter to be used for both purposes. From a design perspective, it's advantageous that the installation space for a second air filter can be saved. From an economic perspective, it's advantageous that the second air filter can be omitted and only a single filter needs to be replaced when changing the filter, enabling savings in both material costs and labor.
[0007] In one embodiment, the compressor serves to provide compressed air for a pneumatic consumer, for the braking system, the air suspension, the pneumatic door control and / or a similar consumer that requires compressed air.
[0008] In one embodiment, an air dryer is arranged in the second air line leading to the brake system and is connected upstream of the pneumatic consumer so that the components of the pneumatic consumer, such as the brake system, are protected from corrosion.
[0009] To ensure the air quality in the vehicle interior, an air filter with significantly higher filtration requirements is required than for the one or more compressed air consumers, such as a braking system. In a first embodiment, the air filter is therefore designed in such a way that the filtered air has interior air quality, for example through a correspondingly fine-pored filter material. In another embodiment, however, the air filter corresponds to a filter class that is sufficient to supply the compressed air consumers, thus enabling a correspondingly low-loss air flow through the air filter. In this embodiment, a second filter is installed downstream of the air filter in the first air line and upstream of the vehicle interior. This second filter is a fine air filter with a comparatively higher filter fineness that traps the larger particles that pass through the air filter.
[0010] In one embodiment, the fine filter comprises a filter with active electrical polarization, wherein either the fine filter operates according to this principle or, alternatively, the fine filter is extended by such a filter with active electrical polarization.
[0011] In one embodiment, the air filter has a replaceable filter insert. This is ecologically and economically advantageous because the air filter housing remains intact even when the filter is replaced, and only a filter insert, which contains a filtering body through which air can flow, is replaced.
[0012] A motor vehicle according to the invention comprises, on the one hand, the interior as a cabin for at least one passenger, for example, the driver, and, on the other hand, a compressed air braking system, as well as an air filter arrangement designed according to the invention. Due to the inventive design of the air filter arrangement, the brake air filter and the interior filter can be combined in such a way that they use only a single air filter system.
[0013] In one embodiment, such a motor vehicle has an electric drive. In electrically powered vehicles, the engine air filter, which is usually present in motor vehicles powered by internal combustion engines and which can also be used to filter the brake air, is omitted. Accordingly, an electrically powered motor vehicle with a compressed air braking system must be equipped with a dedicated air filter for the braking system. Thanks to the inventive design of the air filter arrangement, a separate, second air filter is not required for this purpose; instead, the air filter can be used, which, depending on the filter quality, also provides the air to be supplied to the interior, either as the sole filter or as a pre-filter.
[0014] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the purely schematic single drawing. Fig. 1 in the form of a block diagram the structure of an embodiment of an air filter arrangement for a motor vehicle.
[0015] Fig. 1 shows an air filter assembly 1 of a motor vehicle, wherein the air filter assembly 1 has an air filter 2 with an inlet 3 for unfiltered air and an outlet 4 for unfiltered air. A replaceable filter insert is arranged inside the air filter 2. In the illustrated embodiment, a single outlet 4 is provided on the air filter 2, which branches into a first air line 5 and a second air line 6. Deviating from the illustrated embodiment, the air filter 2 can have two outlets, to which the first and second air lines 5, 6 are each directly connected.
[0016] The first air line 5 leads to an interior 7, which serves as a passenger cabin for accommodating at least one passenger, e.g., a driver. A fine air filter 8 is integrated into the first air line 5, which is positioned upstream of the interior 7, so that the interior 7 is supplied with finely filtered air.
[0017] The second air line 6 leads to a compressed air-operated brake system 9, which has lower filtration requirements than the interior 7, so that in the illustrated embodiment, no second filtration stage, e.g., in the form of a fine filter 8, is arranged in the second air line 6. Instead, the filtered air in the second air line 6 is compressed by a compressor 10 to a pressure required for the brake system 9 and dehumidified by a dryer 11.
