Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This application claims priority to and the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 10 2023 0 079 981, filed in the Republic of Korea on June 21, 2023. BACKGROUND AREA

[0002] Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a display device. DISCUSSION OF THE RELATED TECHNOLOGY

[0003] A display device may include an emitting portion and a non-emitting portion, and may further include light-emitting elements in a plurality of pixels, along with various circuit elements for driving the light-emitting elements in the plurality of pixels. In such display devices, when external light is reflected by various material layers constituting the light-emitting elements and the various circuit elements, a user of the display device may have difficulty recognizing the information displayed on the display device due to the external light being internally reflected in such a way that it interferes with the light emitted by the light-emitting elements.

[0004] Conventional display devices use a polarizing plate to effectively reduce the reflectance of external light, but may suffer from an increase in the manufacturing cost of the display device due to the use of an expensive polarizing plate, limitations in slimming the display device due to the use of the polarizing plate with a certain thickness, and the need to use more power to implement brightness that compensates for a brightness reduction that occurs while the light emitted from the light-emitting element passes through the polarizing plate. OVERVIEW OF REVELATION

[0005] In the field of display technology, techniques for achieving low reflectance without using a polarizing plate, which is expensive and can significantly reduce the light emissions of the display device, are being investigated. However, if a polarizing plate is not used, rainbow mura may be generated by the light reflected from the display device, or an additional optical layer may be required to prevent rainbow mura, increasing the cost and complicating the structure. Furthermore, increased demand for display technologies requires technology that can be implemented with smaller pixels to enable higher resolution, lower reflectance for external light reflection, and the inclusion of touch technology that can handle external input, both for use as an input device and as a display device. The disclosure provides a touch input type display device that enables low power driving at a lower cost by avoiding the use of a polarizing plate, responding to high resolution technology, and implementing low reflectance compared to conventional display devices.

[0006] Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a display device according to claim 1, a display device according to claim 11, and a display device according to claim 20. Further embodiments are described in the dependent claims. Embodiments of the disclosure may provide a display device having a grid structure for reducing reflection.

[0007] Embodiments of the disclosure may provide a display device capable of implementing low reflection by having a grid structure comprising a first layer and a second layer positioned on the first layer and having a lower refractive index than the first layer, and by positioning a color filter between the first layer and the second layer. Here, the first layer may also be referred to as a first grid structure, and the second layer may also be referred to as a second grid structure.

[0008] Embodiments of the disclosure may provide a display device comprising a substrate, a light-emitting element positioned on the substrate, a wall having a first opening corresponding to the light-emitting element, an encapsulation layer positioned on the light-emitting element, a touch electrode positioned on the encapsulation layer, a grid structure positioned on the touch electrode, and a color filter positioned on the touch electrode.

[0009] The grid structure may comprise a first layer (or first grid structure) and a second layer (or second grid structure). The second layer may be positioned on top of the first layer and may have a lower refractive index than the first layer. Furthermore, the color filter may be positioned on top of the first layer and below the second layer.

[0010] According to embodiments of the disclosure, a display device implementing low reflectance may be provided by having a raster structure including a first layer and a second layer positioned on the first layer and having a lower refractive index than the first layer, and a color filter positioned between the first layer and the second layer. [0017] Hereinafter, various embodiments of the disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0018] Fig. Figure 1 is a view schematically illustrating a configuration of a display device according to one embodiment. All components of each display device according to all embodiments of the disclosure are operatively coupled and configured.

[0019] Referring to Fig. 1, a display device according to one embodiment may provide both an image display function and a touch detection function.

[0020] To provide the image display function, the display device according to one embodiment may include a display panel DISP having a plurality of data lines and a plurality of gate lines arranged thereon, and a plurality of subpixels defined by the plurality of data lines and the plurality of gate lines arranged thereon, a data drive circuit DDC that drives the plurality of data lines, a gate drive circuit GDC that drives the plurality of gate lines, and a display controller DCTR that controls the operation of the data drive circuit DDC and the gate drive circuit GDC.

[0021] Each of the data drive circuit DDC, the gate drive circuit GDC, and the display controller DCTR may be implemented as one or more individual components. In some cases, two or more of the data drive circuit DDC, the gate drive circuit GDC, and the display controller DCTR may be integrated and implemented as one component. For example, the data drive circuit DDC and the display controller DCTR may be implemented as an integrated circuit (IC) chip.

[0022] To provide the touch detection function, the display device according to an embodiment may include a touch panel TSP having a plurality of touch electrodes and a touch detection circuit TSC for supplying a touch drive signal to the touch panel TSP, detecting a touch detection signal from the touch panel TSP, and determining the presence or absence of a user's touch or a touch position (or touch coordinates) on the touch panel TSP based on the detected touch detection signal.

[0023] For example, the touch detection circuit TSC may include a touch drive circuit TDC that supplies a touch drive signal to the touch panel TSP and detects a touch detection signal from the touch panel TSP, and a touch controller TCTR that determines the presence or absence of the user's touch and / or the position of the touch on the touch panel TSP based on the touch detection signal detected by the touch drive circuit TDC.

[0024] The touch control circuit TDC may include a first circuit part that supplies a touch control signal to the touch panel TSP and a second circuit part that detects a touch detection signal from the touch panel TSP.

[0025] The touch drive circuit TDC and the touch controller TCTR may be implemented as separate components or, in some cases, may be integrated and implemented as one component. Here, each of the data drive circuit DDC, the gate drive circuit GDC, and the touch drive circuit TDC may be implemented as one or more integrated circuits and, with respect to electrical connection to the display panel DISP, may be implemented as a chip-on-glass (COG) type, a chip-on-film (COF) type, or an adhesive tape carrier (TCP) type. The gate drive circuit GDC may also be implemented in a gate-in-panel (GIP) type. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0026] Here, each of the display driving circuit components DDC, GDC, and DCTR and the touch detecting circuit components TDC and TCTR may be implemented as one or more individual components. In some cases, one or more of the display driving circuit components DDC, GDC, and DCTR and one or more of the touch detecting circuit components TDC and TCTR may be functionally integrated and implemented as one or more components. For example, the data driving circuit DDC and the touch driving circuit TDC may be implemented by integration into one or more integrated circuit chips. When the data drive circuit DDC and the touch drive circuit TDC are integrated into two or more integrated circuit chips, each of the two or more integrated circuit chips may have a data drive function and a touch drive function.

[0027] Here, the display device according to an embodiment may be of various types, such as an organic light-emitting display device, an inorganic light-emitting display device, and a liquid crystal display device. Hereinafter, for convenience of description, the display device will be described as an organic light-emitting display device as an example. In other words, the display panel DISP may be of various types, such as an organic light-emitting display panel, an inorganic light-emitting display panel, and a liquid crystal display panel, but hereinafter, for convenience of description, the display panel DISP will be described as an organic light-emitting display panel. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited to this.

[0028] Here, as described below, the touch panel TSP may include a plurality of touch electrodes to which a touch drive signal can be applied or a touch detection signal can be detected, and a plurality of touch electrode lines for connecting the plurality of touch electrodes to the touch drive circuit TDC.

[0029] The touch panel TSP can be located outside the display panel DISP. In other words, the touch panel TSP and the display panel DISP can be manufactured separately and combined. Such a touch panel TSP is referred to as an external type or an add-on type.

[0030] Alternatively, the touch panel TSP can also be embedded in the display panel DISP. In other words, during the manufacture of the display panel DISP, the touch sensor structure, such as the plurality of touch electrodes and the plurality of touch electrode lines that configure the touch panel TSP, can be formed together with electrodes and signal lines for display control. Such a touch panel TSP is referred to as an embedded type. For convenience of description, an example in which the touch panel TSP is an embedded type is described below.

[0031] Fig. 2 is a view schematically illustrating a display panel of a display device according to an embodiment.

[0032] Referring to Fig. 2, the display panel DISP may have a display area AA in which an image is displayed, and a non-display area NA, which is an outer area surrounding the outer boundary line BL of the display area AA.

[0033] A plurality of subpixels for image display and various electrodes or signal lines for controlling the display are arranged in the display area AA of the display panel DISP. Furthermore, a plurality of touch electrodes for detecting touches and a plurality of touch electrode lines electrically connected thereto may be arranged in the display area AA of the display panel DISP. Accordingly, the display area AA may also be referred to as a touch detection area in which touch detection is possible.

[0034] In the non-display area NA of the display panel DISP, there are arranged connecting lines extending from various signal lines arranged in the display area AA, or connecting lines electrically connected to various signal lines arranged in the display area AA, and pads electrically connected to the connecting lines. The pads arranged in the non-display area NA may be bonded or electrically connected to display drive circuits (DDC, GDC, etc.).

[0035] In the non-display area NA of the display panel DISP, there are arranged connecting lines extending from the plurality of touch electrode lines arranged in the display area AA, or connecting lines electrically connected to the plurality of touch electrode lines arranged in the display area AA, and pads electrically connected to the connecting lines. The pads arranged in the non-display area NA may be bonded to or electrically connected to the touch drive circuit TDC.

[0036] The non-display region NA may have an extension of a portion of the outermost touch electrode of the plurality of touch electrodes arranged in the display region AA, and may further include one or more electrodes (touch electrodes) formed of the same material as the plurality of touch electrodes arranged in the display region AA.

[0037] In other words, the plurality of touch electrodes arranged on the display panel DISP may all be present in the display area AA, or some (for example, outermost touch electrodes) of the plurality of touch electrodes arranged on the display panel DISP may be present in the non-display area NA, or some (for example, outermost touch electrodes) of the plurality of touch electrodes arranged on the display panel DISP may be present in both the display area AA and the non-display area NA.

[0038] In this case, with reference to Fig. 2, the display panel DISP of the display device according to an embodiment may include a dam region DA for preventing a specific layer (e.g., an encapsulation layer in an organic light-emitting display panel) from collapsing in the display region AA.

[0039] The dam region DA may be positioned at a boundary between the display region AA and the non-display region NA, or at any point in the non-display region NA that is an area outside the display region AA. The dam disposed in the dam region DA may be disposed to surround the display region AA in all directions, or it may be disposed only outside one or two or more portions (e.g., portions having a layer that can easily collapse) of the display region AA. The dams disposed in the dam region DA may include a single structure connected to each other or two or more discontinuous structures. Furthermore, only one first dam or two dams (first dam and second dam) may be disposed in the dam region DA. In other embodiments, three or more dams may be disposed, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.Only the first dam may be present in any direction in the dam region DA, and the first dam and the second dam may both be present in any other direction. However, embodiments of the disclosures are not limited thereto.

[0040] Fig. 3 is an example view illustrating a structure in which a touch panel is embedded in a display panel according to an embodiment.

[0041] Referring to Fig. 3, a plurality of subpixels SP are arranged on a substrate SUB in the display area AA of the display panel DISP.

[0042] Each subpixel SP may include a light-emitting element ED, a first transistor T1 for driving the light-emitting element ED, a second transistor T2 for transmitting a data voltage VDATA to a first node N1 of the first transistor T1, and a storage capacitor Cst for maintaining a predetermined voltage during a frame.

[0043] The first transistor T1 may include a first node N1 to which the data voltage VDATA can be applied, a second node N2 electrically connected to the light-emitting element ED, and a third node N3 to which a drive voltage VDD is applied from a drive voltage line DVL. The first node N1 may be the gate node, the second node N2 may be the source node or the drain node, and the third node N3 may be the drain node or the source node. Such a first transistor T1 is also referred to as a drive transistor for driving the light-emitting element ED.

[0044] The light-emitting element ED may include an anode electrode ANO, a light-emitting layer EL, and a cathode electrode CAT. The anode electrode ANO may be electrically connected to the second node N2 of the first transistor T1, and a base voltage (or low drive voltage) VSS may be applied to the cathode electrode CAT. In this light-emitting element ED, the light-emitting layer EL may be an organic light-emitting layer comprising an organic material. In this case, the light-emitting element ED may be an organic light-emitting diode (OLED).

[0045] The second transistor T2 can be controlled by the gate signal SCAN applied through the gate line GL for on / off switching and can be electrically connected between the first node N1 of the first transistor T1 and the data line DL. The second transistor T2 is also referred to as a switching transistor. When the second transistor T2 is turned on by the scanning signal SCAN, it transmits the data voltage VDATA supplied from the data line DL to the first node N1 of the first transistor T1.

[0046] The storage capacitor Cst may be electrically connected between the first node N1 and the second node N2 of the first transistor T1.

[0047] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, each subpixel SP may have a 2T1C structure including two transistors T1 and T2 and a capacitor Cst, and in some cases, it may further include one or more transistors or one or more capacitors. However, embodiments of the disclosures are not limited thereto.

[0048] The storage capacitor Cst may not be a parasitic capacitor (e.g., Cgs or Cgd), which is an internal capacitor that may be present between the first node N1 and the second node N2 of the first transistor T1, but rather an external capacitor that is intentionally configured outside the first transistor T1. However, embodiments of the disclosures are not limited thereto.

[0049] Each of the first transistor T1 and the second transistor T2 may be an n-type transistor or a p-type transistor.

[0050] Here, as described above, circuit elements such as a light-emitting element ED, two or more transistors T1 and T2, and one or more capacitors Cst are arranged on the display panel DISP. Since the circuit elements (especially the light-emitting element ED) are susceptible to external moisture or oxygen, an encapsulation layer ENCAP can be arranged on the display panel DISP to prevent external moisture or oxygen from penetrating the circuit elements (especially the light-emitting element ED). The encapsulation layer ENCAP can be formed from one or more layers.

[0051] Here, in the display device according to one embodiment, the touch panel TSP may be formed on the encapsulation layer ENCAP. In other words, in the display device, the touch sensor structure, such as a plurality of touch electrodes TE that configure the touch panel TSP, may be arranged on the encapsulation layer ENCAP.

[0052] During touch detection, a touch drive signal or a touch detection signal may be applied to the touch electrode TE. Therefore, during touch detection, a potential difference may be formed between the touch electrode TE and the cathode electrode CAT, which are arranged with the encapsulation layer ENCAP interposed therebetween, causing unnecessary parasitic capacitance. This parasitic capacitance may generate noise and reduce touch sensitivity. Therefore, to reduce the parasitic capacitance, a separate electrode (i.e., a shield electrode) may be arranged between the touch electrode TE and the cathode electrode CAT to shield the noise generated between the touch electrode TE and the cathode electrode CAT.

[0053] Fig. 4 is a view illustrating a correlation between a mesh-type touch electrode TE area and a sub-pixel area in a display device 100 according to embodiments.

[0054] Referring to Fig. 4, in a display device 100 according to embodiments, each of a plurality of touch electrodes TE may be an electrode metal EM structured in a mesh-like structure to include holes OA. Here, the hole OA is also referred to as an open area.

[0055] In the touch electrode TE formed by patterning the electrode metal EM in a mesh-like structure, each of the holes OA may correspond to an emission section of one or more subpixels.

[0056] For example, if the display panel PNL is an LCD panel, the subpixel emission section may include a pixel electrode, a color filter, or the like. If the display panel PNL is an OLED panel, the subpixel emission section may include an anode electrode, an organic light-emitting layer, etc. of an organic light-emitting diode (OLED), and in some cases may also include a color filter, etc. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited to this.

[0057] As described above, since the electrode metal EM of the touch electrode TE is structured so that the emission portion of one or more subpixels is present according to the position of each open area OA present in the touch electrode TE in the plan view, the light emission efficiency of the display panel PNL can be increased even though the electrode metal EM is formed of a non-light-transmitting material.

[0058] Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view of a display device according to a comparative example of the disclosure, and is a view illustrating exemplary positions of a color filter and a black matrix.

[0059] Referring to Fig. 5, the cathode electrode CAT of the organic light-emitting diode ED may be located under the encapsulation layer ENCAP.

[0060] The thickness T of the encapsulation layer ENCAP may, for example, be 5 micrometers or more. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0061] As described above, by designing the encapsulation layer ENCAP to have a thickness of 5 micrometers or more, the parasitic capacitance formed between the cathode electrode CAT of the organic light-emitting diode ED and the touch electrodes TE can be reduced. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent a decrease in touch sensitivity due to parasitic capacitance.

[0062] Here, each of the plurality of touch electrodes TE may be structured in a mesh shape (net shape), wherein the electrode metal EM has a plurality of open areas OA, and one or more subpixels or emission portions thereof may be present in the plurality of open areas OA when viewed in the vertical direction.

[0063] As described above, since the electrode metal EM of the touch electrode TE is structured such that the emission portion of one or more subpixels is provided corresponding to the position of each open area OA present in the plan view of the touch electrode TE, the aperture ratio and the light emission efficiency of the display panel PNL can be increased.

[0064] Accordingly, as in Fig. 5, the position of the black matrix BM the position of the electrode metal EM of the touch electrode TE.

[0065] Since the plurality of color filters CF are positioned at positions corresponding to the positions of the plurality of open areas OA, it is possible to provide an organic light-emitting display panel and a display device having excellent light emission efficiency.

[0066] The vertical positioning relationship between the color filters CF and the touch electrodes TE is as follows.

[0067] As in Fig. 5, the plurality of color filters CF and the black matrix BM may be positioned on the plurality of touch electrodes TE.

[0068] In other words, the color filters CF may be positioned on the encapsulation layer ENCAP and may be positioned on a touch sensor metal, such as a touch electrode TE and a touch line TL.

[0069] The plurality of color filters CF and the black matrix BM may be positioned on a first touch buffer layer TBUF1 and a second touch buffer TBUF2 on the plurality of touch electrodes TE.

[0070] As described above, it is possible to provide an OLED display type display device having an optimal positional relationship between the color filters CF and the touch electrodes TE in consideration of display performance such as light emission efficiency and touch performance.

[0071] Conventionally, attempts have been made to embed a touch panel TSP formed of touch electrodes TE into the display panel PNL in order to improve manufacturing capabilities and reduce the size of the display device.

[0072] However, it is quite difficult or limited to embed the touch panel TSP into the display panel PNL, which is an organic light-emitting display panel.

[0073] For example, in manufacturing the display panel PNL, which is an organic light-emitting display panel, there is a limitation that a high-temperature process for forming touch electrodes TE, which are generally formed of a metal material, is not free inside the panel due to the organic material.

[0074] Due to such limitations in the structural properties and operations of the organic light-emitting display panel, it is difficult to arrange the touch electrodes TE as touch sensors within the display panel PNL, which is an organic light-emitting display panel. Accordingly, a touch structure has traditionally been implemented by attaching the touch panel TSP to the display panel PNL, which is an organic light-emitting display panel, rather than embedding the touch panel TSP in the display panel PNL, which is an organic light-emitting display panel.

[0075] However, a display panel PNL can be provided which is an organic light-emitting display panel in which a touch panel TSP is embedded, which has excellent display performance and touch performance, by a structure with touch electrodes on an encapsulation layer (TOE structure) in which touch electrodes TE are formed on an encapsulation layer ENCAP, and a structure with color filters on an encapsulation layer (COE structure) in which color filters CF are formed on an encapsulation layer ENCAP, as shown in Fig. 5 shown.

[0076] Referring to Fig. 5, the display device according to the comparative example may include a substrate SUB, a thin-film transistor layer TFT, a wall BANK, an encapsulation layer ENCAP, a first touch buffer layer TBUF1, a touch electrode TE, a second touch buffer layer TBUF2, a black matrix BM, and a color filter CF. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0077] The first touch buffer layer TBUF1 and the second touch buffer layer TBUF2 may be formed of an inorganic insulating layer and may be SiNx, SiOx, or SiON as the insulating layer including silicon, but are not limited thereto.

[0078] External light incident on the display device can be reflected by various parts of the display device. For example, L1 is external light reflected by the emitting region of the light-emitting element, and L2 is external light reflected by the black matrix.

[0079] The touch electrode TE and the touch line TL may be formed of a metal such as Cu, Mo, Ti, or Al, or a light-transmitting oxide-type metal including indium. When the electrodes are formed of a metallic material, the reflectance is high. Therefore, to prevent such reflection on metal, the touch electrode TE and the touch line TL may be positioned under the black matrix BM in such a way that reflection of external light is prevented. The color filters CF may be formed such that they face the open area OA of the Fig. 4, and a part of the color filter may be formed on the black matrix BM. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0080] The color filter CF should be formed in such a way corresponding to the open area OA for the corresponding color and should not be formed in adjacent different colors that only the desired color is displayed in the corresponding pixel, so that one end of the color filter can be formed on the black matrix BM.

[0081] An organic insulating layer PAC, an optical adhesive layer OCA, and a cover glass CW may be further included on the black matrix BM and the color filter CF. The optical adhesive layer OCA may be positioned under the cover glass CW and may be in direct contact with the cover glass and exhibit adhesion. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0082] Fig. 6A and Fig. 6B are views illustrating a case where incident light is reflected from a general multilayer film.

[0083] Fig. Figure 6A is a view illustrating a process in which incident light is reflected when two layers are established. Since light can be reflected at the interface between two objects with different refractive indices, reflected light 1, which is a reflection of the incident light at the first layer (layer 1), can be generated at two layers, as shown in Fig. 6A, and reflected light 2, which is a reflection at the interface where the light transmitted through the first layer (layer 1) meets the second layer (layer 2), can be generated. In this way, two different reflected light beams can be generated. In this case, the phases of the reflected light 1 and the reflected light 2 may vary due to the distance difference, and two reflected light beams of different phases may combine to cause destructive interference with each other. When such destructive interference occurs, the reflected light may have a smaller amplitude than the existing reflected light 1, and thus the reflected light may be reduced.

[0084] Such reflection from a multilayer film is a common phenomenon that occurs on two or more layers. When a four-layer film is set up, as in Fig. 6B, more reflected light can be detected than in Fig. 6A, and when the phase difference between the reflected light beams is adjusted, the reflected light can be further reduced due to the destructive interference between multiple reflected light beams than when the reflected light is reduced by two layers.

[0085] In Fig. 5, the external light L2 reflected by the black matrix BM may be reflected light at a single layer formed by reflection by the black matrix BM, or may be the sum of the reflected light rays at two layers formed by a combination of the reflected light generated at the color filter CF formed at the black matrix BM and the light passing through the color filter and then reflected by the black matrix BM.

[0086] As described above, if a polarizing plate is not used, the visibility of the display area AA may be reduced by reflected light. Therefore, to counteract this phenomenon, pigments can be added to the optical adhesive layer or the cover layer positioned between the color filter CF and the cover glass CW. However, adding pigments to the cover layer or the optical adhesive layer is not sufficient to reduce the reflectance of the display device.

[0087] Fig. 7 to Fig. 10 are cross-sectional views illustrating a display device according to embodiments of the disclosure.

[0088] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, a display device may include a substrate SUB, a light-emitting element ED, a wall BANK, an encapsulation layer ENCAP, a touch electrode TE, a grid pattern MAT, and a color filter CF. Further, the display device may include a thin-film transistor layer TFT disposed on the substrate SUB and on which a thin-film transistor driving the light-emitting element ED is disposed, a first touch buffer layer TBUF1 positioned on the encapsulation layer ENCAP, a second touch buffer layer TBUF2 positioned on the touch electrode TE, and an organic insulation layer PAC and an optical adhesive layer OCA positioned on the color filter CF. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited to this.

[0089] The substrate SUB may include a display region. A plurality of light-emitting elements ED may be positioned in the display region. The thin-film transistor layer TFT may be positioned on the substrate SUB. The thin-film transistor layer TFT may be a layer in which transistors that drive the light-emitting element ED are positioned. The light-emitting element ED may be positioned on the substrate SUB. The light-emitting element ED may be electrically connected to and driven by a transistor positioned on the thin-film transistor layer TFT. The light-emitting element ED may include an anode electrode ANO, a light-emitting layer EL, and a cathode electrode CAT. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0090] The Wall BANK may be positioned on the substrate SUB. Furthermore, the Wall BANK may be positioned on the thin-film transistor layer TFT, and a portion of the Wall BANK may be positioned on the anode electrode ANO of the light-emitting element ED. The emission region and the non-emission region are divided by the Wall BANK, and the emission region of the subpixel may be defined. The emission region of the subpixel may be a region where the Wall BANK is open and may be a region where the anode electrode ANO of the light-emitting element ED is exposed. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited to this.

[0091] The wall BANK may have a wall width BK_W of a predetermined size and may have a first opening O1 corresponding to the light-emitting layer EL. If the first opening O1 corresponds to the light-emitting layer EL, this may mean that the first opening O1 is positioned such that light generated by the light-emitting layer EL of the light-emitting element ED can be directed to the outside of the display device through the first opening O1. An emission region may be defined by the first opening O1 of the wall BANK, and the region of the first opening O1 of the wall BANK and the emission region may be the same. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0092] The inorganic insulation layer PAS and the encapsulation layer ENCAP can be positioned on the light-emitting element ED. Because the inorganic insulation layer PAS and the encapsulation layer ENCAP are positioned on the light-emitting element ED, the light-emitting element ED can be protected from external oxygen and moisture.

[0093] The touch electrode TE may be positioned on the encapsulation layer ENCAP. The first touch buffer layer TBUF1 may be positioned between the touch electrode TE and the encapsulation layer ENCAP, and on the first touch buffer layer TBUF1, the touch electrode TE may have the touch electrode width TE_W having a predetermined size and may have a second opening O2. The second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE may refer to the method described above with reference to Fig. 4. The first opening O1 of the wall BANK may be positioned within or overlap the second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE. The touch electrode TE may be positioned in a non-emission region defined by the wall BANK and may be positioned to overlap the wall BANK. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0094] The width TE_W of the touch electrode can be equal to or smaller than the width BK_W of the wall, and the second opening O2 can be equal to or larger than the first opening O1. Due to this size difference, it is possible to minimize the blockage of light due to the touch electrode when light generated in the emission region is emitted outward.

[0095] The grid pattern MAT can be positioned on the touch electrode TE. The second touch buffer layer TBUF2 can be positioned between the touch electrode TE and the grid pattern MAT, but the second touch buffer layer TBUF2 is not necessarily positioned. Since the grid pattern MAT is positioned to overlap the touch electrode TE on the second touch buffer layer TBUF2, the display device can be prevented from having a high reflectance due to the reflection of external light from the touch electrode TE.

[0096] The grid structure MAT may include a first grid structure MAT1 and a second grid structure MAT2. The second grid structure MAT2 may be positioned on the first grid structure MAT1. Furthermore, the second grid structure MAT2 may have a lower refractive index than the first grid structure MAT1. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0097] The first grid pattern MAT1 may have a first grid pattern width MAT1_W having a predetermined size and may include a third opening O3. The third opening O3 of the first grid pattern MAT1 may be positioned in or overlap the second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE, and the first opening O1 of the wall BANK may be positioned in or overlap the third opening O3 of the first grid pattern MAT1. The first grid pattern MAT1 may be positioned in a non-emission region defined by the wall BANK and may be positioned to overlap the wall BANK and the touch electrode TE.

[0098] The width MAT1_W of the first grid structure MAT1 may be equal to or greater than the width TE_W of the touch electrode and may be equal to or smaller than the width BK_W of the bank, and the third opening O3 of the first grid structure MAT1 may be equal to or greater than the first opening O1 of the bank BANK and may be equal to or smaller than the second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE.

[0099] The first grid structure MAT1 may include white nanoparticles. The white nanoparticles may include particles made of oxide, and may include, but are not limited to, titanium-based oxides such as rutile, anatase, and titanium oxide, or silicon nanoparticles. The first grid structure MAT1 may include, in addition to the white nanoparticles, a binder, a photosensitive agent, and an additive. The first grid structure MAT1 may be formed by a low-temperature process of 100°C or less. The first grid structure MAT1 may include black nanoparticles instead of white nanoparticles, or the first grid structure MAT1 may further include black nanoparticles along with white nanoparticles. The "black nanoparticles" mentioned in the disclosure may also be referred to as black particles.Furthermore, the term "black" mentioned in the disclosure may mean a color that effectively absorbs (or blocks) light, which may be pure black or various dark colors that are similar to black, even if not pure black. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0100] The color filter CF can be positioned on the touch electrode TE. The color filter CF can fill the third opening O3 of the first grid structure MAT1 and can have color filter structures that correspond to the color of the light emitted by the light-emitting element.

[0101] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, a portion of the color filter CF may be positioned on the first grid structure MAT1, and the color filter CF may have a lower refractive index than the first grid structure MAT1. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0102] The second grid structure MAT2 may be positioned on the first grid structure MAT1 such that it overlaps the first grid structure MAT1 and the touch electrode TE.

[0103] The second grid pattern MAT2 may have a second grid pattern width MAT2_W having a predetermined size and may include a fourth opening O4. The fourth opening O4 of the second grid pattern MAT2 may be positioned in or overlap the second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE, and the third opening O3 of the first grid pattern MAT1 and the first opening O1 of the wall BANK may be positioned in the fourth opening O4 of the second grid pattern MAT2. The second grid pattern MAT2 may be positioned in a non-emission region rather than an emission region defined by the wall BANK and may be positioned to overlap the wall BANK, the touch electrode TE, and the first grid pattern MAT1.

[0104] The width MAT2_W of the second grid structure MAT2 may be equal to or greater than the width TE_W of the touch electrode, equal to or less than the width BK_W of the bank, and equal to or less than the width MAT1_W of the first grid structure MAT1. The fourth opening O4 of the second grid structure MAT2 may be equal to or greater than the first opening O1 of the bank BANK, equal to or less than the second opening O2 of the touch electrode TE, and equal to or greater than the third opening O3 of the first grid structure MAT1. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0105] The second grid structure MAT2 may include black nanoparticles. The black nanoparticles may include particles made of carbon black or lactam black, but are not limited thereto. The second grid structure MAT2 may include, in addition to the black nanoparticles, a binder, a photosensitive agent, and an additive. The second grid structure MAT2 may be formed by a low-temperature process of 100°C or less. The black nanoparticles included in the second grid structure MAT2 may have a larger weight fraction than the black nanoparticles included in the first grid structure MAT1. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0106] A portion of the color filter CF is positioned on the first raster structure MAT1, and the color filter CF positioned on the first raster structure MAT1 is positioned under the second raster structure MAT2.

[0107] As in Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, when the first grid pattern MAT1, the color filter CF, the second grid pattern MAT2 and the second touch buffer layer TBUF2 are positioned on the touch electrode TE so as to correspond to the touch electrode TE, the light incident from the outside and reflected by the touch electrode TE can generate a plurality of reflected light beams as shown in Fig. 6B, and when destructive interference occurs, the reflected light can be further reduced. When the refractive index of the first grating structure MAT1 positioned in the lower portion is high and the refractive index of the second grating structure MAT2 positioned in the upper portion is low, the reflectance of external light can be further reduced.

[0108] To achieve such low reflection of external light, the refractive index of the first grid structure MAT1 may be 2.1 to 2.7, and the refractive index of the second grid structure MAT2 may be 1.4 to 1.8. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto.

[0109] An organic insulation layer PAC, an optical adhesive layer OCA (which may also be referred to as an organic layer), and a cover glass CW (which may also be referred to as a second substrate) may be further included on the second grid structure MAT2 and the color filter CF (in this case, the substrate SUB may also be referred to as a first substrate). The optical adhesive layer OCA may be positioned under the cover glass CW and may be in direct contact with the cover glass and exhibit adhesion. The optical adhesive layer OCA may include a pigment and a dye that can reduce reflectance. The pigment and dye capable of reducing reflectance may be a mixture of black or red and blue, and when such a pigment and dye capable of reducing reflectance are included, the display device may have a lower reflectance.

[0110] Table 1 below shows a comparison of reflectance between display devices according to an embodiment of the disclosure and a comparative example. [Table 1] Reflexionsgrad (%) Materialvergleich 450nm 550nm 650nm Vergleichsbeispiel 4.8 5.4 7.4 Ausführungsform 4.2 4.2 4.2

[0111] In Table 1, the comparative example is the reflectance of the display device which meets the Fig. 5 and the color filter CF, and the embodiment is the reflectance of the display device according to the embodiment of the Fig. 7. As described above, since greater destructive interference can be caused when more multilayers are applied, it can be found that the external light L2 reflected from the black matrix BM in the embodiment of the Fig. 7 is affected by greater destructive interference than in the comparison example of Fig. 5 and therefore has a lower reflectance in all measured wavelength bands.

[0112] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, when the second grid structure MAT2 is positioned on the first grid structure MAT1, one or more of the color filters CF may be inserted between the second grid structure MAT2 and the first grid structure MAT1. For example, in various embodiments of the disclosure, lateral portions of the color filters CF may be inserted between the second grid structure MAT2 and the first grid structure MAT1, while main portions of the color filters CF are arranged in the fourth opening O4. In embodiments of the disclosure, the main portions of the color filters CF have a different thickness than the lateral portions of the color filters CF.

[0113] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, a first thickness of the lateral portions of the color filters CF may be thicker than a second thickness of the main portions of the color filters CF. In various embodiments of the disclosure, the lateral portions of the color filters CF may have the same thickness as each other, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, the lateral portions of the color filters CF may have different thicknesses depending on the color of the color filters CF. Likewise, in various embodiments of the disclosure, the main portions of the color filters CF may have the same thickness as each other, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, the main portions of the color filters CF may have different thicknesses depending on the color of the color filters.

[0114] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, a thickness of the second grid structure MAT2 may be the same or constant across the entire display area AA. Likewise, a thickness of the first grid structure MAT1 may be the same or constant across the entire display area AA. However, embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, at least one of a thickness of the first grid structure MAT1 and a thickness of the second grid structure MAT2 may vary along a width of the first grid structure MAT1 or a width of the second grid structure MAT2. In various embodiments of the disclosure, the thickness of the first grid structure MAT1 and the thickness of the second grid structure MAT2 may be the same or different.

[0115] Referring to Fig. 7 to Fig. 10, a thickness of the organic insulation layer PAC may vary along a surface of the display area AA of the display panel DISP. For example, in embodiments of the disclosure, the organic insulation layer PAC is on both the second grid structure MAT2 and the color filter CF. In this regard, the thickness of the organic insulation layer PAC may differ between a portion of the organic insulation layer PAC directly overlapping the second grid structure MAT2 and a portion of the organic insulation layer PAC directly overlapping the color filters CF. For example, the thickness of the portion of the organic insulation layer PAC directly overlapping the second grid structure MAT2 may be less than that of the portion of the organic insulation layer PAC directly overlapping the color filters CF.In addition, when the organic insulating layer PAC directly overlaps the color filters CF, thicknesses of portions of the organic insulating layer PAC directly overlapping the color filters CF may vary depending on the colors of the color filters CF or positions of the portions of the organic insulating layer PAC on a surface of the display area AA.

[0116] Referring to Fig. 7 - Fig. 10, the color filters CF are provided with respective upper surfaces that contact respective lower surfaces of the second grid structure MAT2, such that the upper surfaces of the color filters CF are coplanar with the lower surfaces of the second grid structure MAT2, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. In further embodiments of the disclosure, the respective upper surfaces of the second grid structure MAT2 may be aligned with or coplanar with the respective upper surfaces of the color filters CF.When the upper surfaces of the second grid structure MAT2 and the upper surfaces of the color filters CF are aligned or coplanar with each other, the organic insulation layer PAC may have a uniform thickness across the surface of the display area AA, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto, and the organic insulation layer PAC may have different thicknesses across the surface of the display area AA when the upper surfaces of the second grid structure MAT2 and the upper surfaces of the color filters CF are aligned or coplanar with each other.

[0117] Referring to Fig. 8, a part of the color filter CF may be positioned on the first grid pattern MAT1, and side surfaces of adjacent color filters CF11 and CF12, CF12 and CF13, or CF13 and CF11 may be in direct contact with another adjacent color filter CF on the first grid pattern MAT1, and the contact portion may be positioned under the second grid pattern MAT2. In this case, the color filter CF may include red, green, and blue, and CF11 may correspond to red, CF12 may correspond to green, and CF13 may correspond to blue. Furthermore, the color filters CF are illustrated in three colors in the drawings, but may be configured to correspond to three or more colors.

[0118] Referring to Fig. 9, which illustrates another embodiment, a part of the color filter CF may be positioned on the first raster structure MAT1, and side surfaces of the adjacent color filters CF21 and CF22, CF22 and CF23, or CF23 and CF21 may be positioned such that they are arranged on the first raster structure MAT1 at a distance from another adjacent color filter CF, the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be positioned under the second raster structure MAT2, and the second raster structure MAT2 may directly contact the first raster structure MAT1 while filling the separating portions.

[0119] Referring to Fig. 9, the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be filled by a portion of the second raster structure MAT2 having a width different from a portion of the second raster structure MAT2 on the upper surfaces of the different color filters CF. For example, the width of the portion of the second raster structure MAT2 filled in the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be smaller than a width of the portion of the second raster structure MAT2 on the upper surfaces of the different color filters CF, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, the width of the portion of the second raster structure MAT2 filled in the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be approximately the same as or larger than the width of the portion of the second raster structure MAT2 on the upper surfaces of the different color filters CF.The width of the portion of the second raster structure MAT2 filled in the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be approximately equal to or smaller than a width of the first raster structure MAT2.

[0120] Referring to Fig. 9, the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be filled by a portion of the first grid structure MAT1 having a width different from a portion of the first grid structure MAT1 on the upper surfaces of the second touch buffer layer TBUF2. In other embodiments of the disclosure, the separating portions of the different color filters CF may be filled by a different material or may remain a gap.

[0121] Referring to Fig. 10, which illustrates another embodiment, parts or sections of the color filters CF, CF31, CF32, and CF33 may be positioned on the first raster pattern MAT1 to overlap another adjacent color filter, and the overlapping sections of the different color filters may be positioned to overlap below the second raster pattern MAT2 and may have a width equal to or smaller than the width MAT2_W of the second raster pattern MAT2. For example, the second raster pattern MAT2 may be positioned above the section where the first color filter CF31 and the second color filter CF32 overlap, and the first raster pattern MAT1 may be positioned below the section where the first color filter CF31 and the second color filter CF32 overlap. The second raster pattern MAT2 may overlap a section of the first color filter CF31 and may overlap a section of the second color filter CF32.The first raster structure MAT1 may overlap a portion of the first color filter CF31 and may overlap a portion of the second color filter CF32.

[0122] Referring to Fig. 10, the lateral sections of the various color filters CF overlap below the second grid structure MAT2. Likewise, a thickness of the later section of the color filters CF that overlaps that of another color filter CF may vary. For example, a thickness of a lateral section of the first color filter CF31 that overlaps a lateral section of the second color filter CF32 may be different from a thickness of a lateral section of the third color filter CF33 that overlaps a lateral section of the second color filter CF32. In various embodiments of the disclosure, thicknesses of lateral sections of the same color filter may also be different. For example, the third color filter CF33 has lateral sections whose thicknesses differ on opposite sides thereof. In addition to the lateral portions of the first color filter CF31, the second color filter CF32, and the third color filter CF33 being different from each other, the thicknesses of the main portions of the first color filter CF31, the second color filter CF32, and the third color filter CF33 may also be different, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, the thicknesses of the main portions of the first color filter CF31, the second color filter CF32, and the third color filter CF33 may be the same in other embodiments of the disclosure.

[0123] Referring to Fig.10, a thickness of the second raster structure MAT2 may vary across an overlap region of lateral portions of adjacent color filters CF. For example, a thickness of the second raster structure MAT2 may be different in the overlap region of the second color filter CF32 and the third color filter CF33. As an example, a first portion of the second raster structure MAT2 contacting the second color filter CF32 may have a greater thickness than a second portion of the second raster structure MAT2 contacting the third color filter CF33, but embodiments of the disclosure are not limited thereto. In other embodiments, a thickness of the first raster structure MAT1 may vary across an overlap region of lateral portions of adjacent color filters CF.

[0124] The display device according to embodiments of the disclosure can have low power consumption due to the absence of a polarizing plate and can effectively reduce reflection due to multiple destructive interference by having a first raster pattern MAT1, a second raster pattern MAT2, and a color filter positioned between the first raster pattern MAT1 and the second raster pattern MAT2, thereby solving the problems with the conventional art.

[0125] Embodiments of the above-described disclosure are briefly described below.

[0134] A portion of the color filter CF may be positioned on the first grid structure MAT1, a side surface of an adjacent color filter CF may be in direct contact with another adjacent color filter CF on the first grid structure MAT1, and the contact portion may be positioned under the second grid structure MAT2.

[0135] A portion of the color filter CF may be positioned such that it is arranged on the first raster structure MAT1 at a distance from another adjacent color filter CF, the separating portion of the different color filters CF may be positioned below the second raster structure MAT2, and the second raster structure MAT2 may directly touch the first raster structure MAT1 while filling the separating portion.

[0136] A portion of the color filter CF on the first raster structure MAT1 may be positioned to overlap another adjacent color filter, and the overlapping portion of the different color filters may be positioned under the second raster structure MAT2 and may have a width equal to or smaller than the width MAT2_W of the second raster structure.

[0137] An organic insulation layer PAC, an optical adhesive layer OCA, and a cover glass CW can be included on the second grid structure MAT2 and the color filter CF. The optical adhesive layer OCA can, for example, contain a pigment.
