AI Technical Summary
Existing vehicles, particularly heavy goods vehicles, lack a system for predictive control of longitudinal and lateral acceleration, leading to inefficient fuel consumption due to suboptimal gear selection during driving.
A method and control device for predictive gear selection in automatic transmissions that divides the road into segments with constant curvature and gradient, determining desired speeds, and calculating fuel consumption for each gear to optimize gear changes based on vehicle parameters, driver behavior, and map data.
Enhances fuel efficiency by optimizing gear selection based on route information and driver behavior, reducing unnecessary gear changes and improving overall fuel consumption.

Abstract
Claims
[1] A method for predictively selecting a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle, comprising: Dividing (10) a preceding section of the route into segments which have a substantially constant curvature and a substantially constant gradient or a substantially constant gradient; Determining (12), for each of the segments, a desired speed based on vehicle parameters and route information; Determining (14), for each of the segments, a minimum possible gear and a maximum possible gear based on the desired speed; and successively determining a gait for each of the segments; wherein determining the gear for a segment comprises calculating a consumption of the vehicle in the segment for a plurality of gears including the lowest possible gear and the highest possible gear and selecting the gear that produces the lowest consumption. [2] A method for predictively selecting a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle according to claim 1, wherein determining the desired speed for each of the segments is further based on a recorded driving behavior of a driver of the vehicle. [3] A method for predictively selecting a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle according to claim 1 or 2, wherein determining the lowest possible gear and the highest possible gear for each of the segments is further based on a gear ratio of the gears and an upper limit of a speed range of the engine. [4] Method for the predictive selection of a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle according to one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the calculation of the consumption of the vehicle takes into account whether a gear change in the segment is necessary when selecting the gear, wherein the effect of the gear change on reaching the desired speed and the consumption is simulated. [5] Method for the predictive selection of a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle according to one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the successive determination of a gear for each of the segments begins with a last segment of the route section in the direction of travel and continues in the direction of the vehicle. [6] Method for the predictive selection of a gear of an automatic transmission of a vehicle according to claim 5, wherein the calculation of the consumption of the vehicle takes into account whether a gear change is necessary in a subsequent segment when the gear is selected. [7] Control unit for an automatic transmission, wherein the control unit is configured to carry out a method according to one of claims 1 to 6. [8] A vehicle comprising an automatic transmission and a control device according to claim 7.
