Description

[0001] Oil lamps are widespread. For commercially available oil lamps, the size of the oil container, the wick width, the wick guide, the lampshade, the material used and the design of the lamp are predetermined and cannot be easily adapted to requirements. The production of such oil lamps requires raw materials, a production facility, distribution structures, energy, advertising measures and transport capacities. If a component of the lamp wears out, it is time-consuming and expensive to obtain the correct replacement part or to have it specially manufactured for the lamp. The lamp requires suitable wicks, which are often only available from the lamp manufacturers. Such oil lamps are often not affordable for people in poor circumstances in developing countries because they are too expensive.

[0002] The invention defined in claim 1 is based on the problem of providing a kit for oil lamps which consists of widely available components and standardised wicks and with which an easy-to-clean oil lamp can be built cost-effectively using simple tools, without complex manufacturing processes and without the use of new raw materials, and which can be adapted to one's own requirements.

[0003] This problem is solved by the features listed in claim 1, that the kit consists of a lamp housing (2) and a lampshade (1) made of commercially available cooking pots with handles (3), the outer base plate of the cooking pot, which serves as the lampshade (1), is connected to the inner cooking pot base by means of a screw (12) and contains at least three spring clips (10) for securely positioning the lampshade (1) on the lamp housing (2), as well as several tin cans (6) arranged on a base plate, several smaller tin cans shaped as floats (4) with weight screws (5), spacers, and receiving holes for the wick positioning systems (8), several tubes as wick positioning systems (8) which have a bead and on which cross holes are arranged,as well as wicks (13) and a wick scissors (11) with a stop pin made of magnetic material or with a threaded adjustable and contains assembly instructions for the oil lamp.,

[0004] The kit specified here uses readily available components such as tin cans that would otherwise be thrown away after their original use, so that apart from the wicks and the fuel, no new components have to be manufactured for the kit, which is energy- and cost-intensive. The components, such as cooking pots, are also available worldwide, so that the kits can be assembled and offered for sale anywhere. A cooking pot as the lamp housing (1) contains several open tin cans as oil containers (3). The lamp housing with the handles enables safe transport even when the oil lamp is lit, and the fuel, commercially available cooking oil, is available everywhere. Depending on how many oil containers (3) with floats (5) and wicks (7) are arranged in the lamp housing, the oil lamp produces a correspondingly bright light, which, with the help of a reflector plate (12), illuminates the room even better. The fuel can be easily refilled by removing the lampshade (2). The burned-out wicks (7) can also be quickly repositioned and trimmed to the same length using wick scissors and a stop pin (9), preventing smoke from developing due to wicks that are too long. The oil containers (3) located in the lamp housing (1) are secured to a base plate (4) and are thus protected from tipping over. Should any oil leak out, it is collected by the lamp housing (1). All components of the kit can be disassembled and cleaned separately, ensuring long-term, reliable operation. The wick positioning systems (6) are designed to accommodate wicks (7) of varying diameters, which are secured with a pin (8) via the cross holes in the positioning system. This allows even the burned-out wick (7) to be easily and quickly removed, pushed forward, secured, and shortened with wick scissors (9) to the length specified by the stop pin. Several drilling templates (11) are included for the production of the floats (5), so that these replacement parts can be manufactured with little effort, even by laypeople using standard tools such as a drill.

[0005] In a cost-effective, further developed version, a hole is drilled through the base plate of the cooking pot, which serves as a lampshade, and several stainless steel screws are inserted. Their contact surfaces are turned or ground to a depth closer to the thread. These screws are then screwed into the interior of the cooking pot with a stainless steel nut. This ensures that the cooking pot remains watertight even at higher cooking temperatures without the need for additional sealing rings. This prevents the hot outer base plate from blowing off the cooking pot during extended use, but the cooking pot can also be used for boiling food in water. This further development contributes significantly to the safe operation of the oil lamp kit.

[0006] In another advanced version, reflective metal strips are arranged on the spring clips of the kit, via which the fill level of the oil containers and the number of burning wicks can be checked from a distance.

[0007] A further developed version of the kit includes a stop pin for the wick trimmer. It consists of a magnet that is placed at the appropriate position on the scissors blade, eliminating the need to drill a hole in the blade for the pin. The size of the magnet (e.g., a 4 x 2 mm neodymium cylinder) should be selected to ensure soot-free burning of the oil with the wick inserted. If a longer wick is required, several magnetic cylinders can be used together as a stop pin.
