Description

[0001] The invention relates to a paint roller.

[0002] Paint rollers, used for applying paint such as wall paint, are available in a wide variety of designs. A recurring problem is inadequate or nonexistent cleaning, often rendering a used paint roller unusable. To counteract this waste of resources, stocking-like covers that could be replaced on the roller core have been proposed in the past. However, the use of such covers, particularly regarding their attachment, has proven impractical.

[0003] Against this background, the invention aims to provide a paint roller of the type mentioned above, which is easy and very flexible to use.

[0004] This technical problem is solved by the features of claim 1.

[0005] The paint roller according to the invention has a multitude of advantages. The cover is a simple, rectangular piece cut from a suitable material, for example, with varying pile thicknesses, depending on the intended paint application. This flap-like cover is then affixed with adhesive strips along two opposite edges, for example, by gluing or sewing. The two adhesive strips of the cover correspond to at least one adhesive strip on the roller core, preferably recycled plastic. Such a cover, with dimensions πd times the width of the roller core, can be rolled precisely onto the roller core.

[0006] Besides being easy to manufacture, such a rag-like cover has the advantage that it can be easily removed from the roll core after use and then washed for reuse in a resource-saving manner.

[0007] For use with a paint roller, the adhesive strips should be water- and / or solvent-resistant. This ensures a firm bond between the coating and the roller core, which rotates on an axle, even during use.

[0008] Hook and eye strips have proven effective as adhesive strips, ensuring such secure fastening.

[0009] In a first embodiment of the paint roller according to the invention, the roller core is provided with an axial adhesive strip at least twice the width of the adhesive strips of the coating. This axial adhesive strip is placed onto an edge adhesive strip of the coating, and the coating is secured by rolling it around the core, with the second adhesive strip coming into contact with the axial adhesive strip.

[0010] Particularly when removing a coating after using the paint roller for replacement or cleaning, it has proven useful for the roller core to be marked at the end to indicate the position of the adhesive strip. Such markings clearly show the abutting ends of the coating, allowing it to be easily grasped and removed.

[0011] In an alternative embodiment of the paint roller according to the invention, the roller core is provided with two circumferential adhesive strips along its edge. In this case as well, the roller core can simply be placed against the end of the adhesive strips of the coating, and the coating can then be rolled on.

[0012] Sealing the roller core against its axle at the edges also makes cleaning the paint roller significantly easier.

[0013] The paint roller according to the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, which only shows exemplary embodiments. The drawing shows: Fig. 1 a first embodiment and Fig. 2 a second embodiment of a paint roller.

[0014] The basic structure of the in Fig. The paint roller 1 shown corresponds largely to known paint rollers. A roller core 2 is rotatably mounted on an axle 3 of a handle 4. Lateral seals 5, 6 prevent paint from penetrating during use.

[0015] The surface of the roller core 2 is not intended for the application of paint or the like. Rather, it is largely smooth and is covered with a rectangular, flap-like coating 7 for paint application. The material of the coating depends on the intended use and is selected accordingly.

[0016] This rectangular, flap-like cover can be rolled up and is fixed to the roller core 2.

[0017] For fixing purposes, the coating 7 has an adhesive strip 10,11 on each of two opposite edges 8,9.

[0018] These adhesive strips 10, 11 correspond to an axial adhesive strip 12 on the roller core 2. Accordingly, this adhesive strip 12 has at least twice the width of the adhesive strips 10, 11.

[0019] Waterproof or solvent-resistant hook and eye strips have proven effective as adhesive strips; these can be sewn or glued to the cover 7. The latter also applies to the adhesive strip 12 on the smooth plastic surface of the roller core 2.

[0020] The adhesive strip 12 is attached to one of the adhesive strips 10,11 and a surface suitable for applying paint is produced on the paint roller 1 by rolling on the coating 7, when the second adhesive strip locks with the axial adhesive strip on the roller core 2.

[0021] To facilitate the removal of the coating 7 after use of the paint roller 1, the roller core 2 has end markings 13,14, shown here by way of example in the form of pins, which indicate the position of the axial adhesive strip 12 and thus allow easy removal and subsequent washing of the coating 7 from the roller core 2.

[0022] The exemplary embodiment of the paint roller 20 according to Fig. 2 differs from the preceding one in the arrangement of the adhesive strips. The roller core 21 has two radially circumferential adhesive strips 22, 23 at its end. Both adhesive strips 22, 23 correspond to adhesive strips 24, 25 of the coating 26.
