A carriage assembly for controlling a steering wire steering mechanism within a flexible shaft, for use in gastrointestinal tract surgery, comprises a plurality of selectably engageable motors, including two drive motors for selectably rotating drive shafts of a surgical attachment, two steering motors mechanically communicating with corresponding pulleys around which are coiled directional steering wires communicating with a flexible shaft to enable the selective direction of the flexible shaft within a spatial plane, wherein within the assembly housing the steering motors travel on a steering motor carriage and the pulleys travel on a pulley carriage which is biased by a spring means away from the interior wall of the housing, which biases the steering wires toward a taut state. The bias can be overcome by a carriage motor mechanically communicating with the pulley carriage to cause the flexible shaft to go limp. Also disclosed are a series of surgical attachments which may be coupled to and utilized in conjunction with the carriage assembly.

Laminated ultrasonic end effector

A laminated ultrasonic waveguide and a method of fabrication thereof including stamping at least two pieces of sheet stock to form stamped parts of the laminated ultrasonic waveguide. The stamped parts are then laminated together to form a laminated ultrasonic waveguide for transferring ultrasonic acoustic energy along a longitudinal axis of the laminated ultrasonic waveguide. The laminated ultrasonic waveguide may be part of an ultrasonic surgical instrument having an active tip end-effector, which is placed in contact with tissue of a patient to couple ultrasonic energy transferred along the laminated ultrasonic waveguide to the tissue. The stamped pieces of sheet stock can also be stamped to form one or more channels extending along the length of the laminated ultrasonic waveguide. The laminated ultrasonic waveguide can also define a connector at a proximal end thereof to transfer ultrasonic energy into the laminated ultrasonic waveguide. In different embodiments, the laminated ultrasonic waveguide comprises first and second (and third or more) stamped pieces of sheet stock that are laminated together.

A stable lyophilized protein formulation is described which can be reconstituted with a suitable diluent to generate a high protein concentration reconstituted formulation which is suitable for subcutaneous administration. For example, anti-IgE and anti-HER2 antibody formulations have been prepared by lyophilizing these antibodies in the presence of a lyoprotectant. The lyophilized mixture thus formed is reconstituted to a high protein concentration without apparent loss of stability of the protein.

The apparatus holds and positions at least first and second rolls of paper with respect to each other; dispenses paper from the first roll; dispenses paper from the first and second rolls simultaneously when the first roll reduces to a predetermined diameter of paper, positions the depleted first roll for replacement without the necessity of removing the second roll; and dispenses from the second and replacement rolls simultaneously when the second roll reduces to a predetermined diameter of paper. The apparatus also has a proximity sensor, which senses when a hand is placed near the dispenser, and thereupon dispenses a set amount of towel. Active organic electroluminescence display panel module and driving module thereof

An active organic electroluminescence display panel module comprising a substrate, a plurality of organic light-emitting devices, a light-emitting device driving unit and a temperature sensor unit are provided. The light-emitting device driving unit is electrically connected to the organic light-emitting devices for driving them. The temperature sensor unit is disposed on the substrate for sensing the temperature of the active organic electroluminescence display panel. The temperature sensor unit is also electrically connected to the light-emitting device driving unit for providing a signal to the light-emitting device driving unit in response to the sensed temperature. Accordingly, the light-emitting device driving unit can adjust the driving voltage of the organic light-emitting devices in the active organic electroluminescence display panel to reduce overall power consumption and provide an accurate grayscale to improve the quality of displayed images.

Method of making near chip size integrated circuit package

A plurality of integrated circuit chip (IC chip) packages are fabricated simultaneously from a single insulating substrate having sections. In each section, an IC chip is attached. Bonding pads on the IC chip are electrically connected to first metallizations on a substrate first surface. The first metallizations, IC chip including bonding pads and first substrate surface are then encapsulated. Interconnection balls or pads are formed at substrate bonding locations on a substrate second surface, the interconnection pads or balls being electrically connected to corresponding first metallizations. The substrate and encapsulant are then cut along the periphery of each section to form the plurality of IC chip packages.
