AI Technical Summary
Existing bicycle carriers with linear extension mechanisms for vehicles with large tailgates, such as vans and campervans, lack a suitable method to mount rear boxes due to insufficient opening angles, preventing the tailgate or rear doors from being fully opened.
Adapter brackets made of aluminum rectangular tube profiles, secured with M8 hammerhead screws, provide a secure and form-fitting connection between the rear box and the bicycle carrier, utilizing spacer strips for predefined mounting and incorporating original mounting elements with rivet nuts for fastening, allowing the rear box to be mounted on the carrier.
Enables secure and stable mounting of rear boxes on bicycle carriers with linear extension mechanisms, ensuring the tailgate or rear doors can be fully opened on vehicles with large tailgates, enhancing compatibility and usability.

Abstract
Description
[0001] Rear boxes for transporting holiday or leisure luggage or sports equipment are usually mounted on bicycle carriers or rear carriers with a folding mechanism so that the tailgate of the vehicle can be opened for loading.
[0002] However, this opening mechanism generally only works on cars / station wagons / SUVs. On vehicles with large tailgates, such as vans, minibuses, or campervans with rear doors, the tailgate or rear doors hit the frame because the opening angle is insufficient.
[0003] Only one specific type of bicycle carrier for mounting on trailer hitches is equipped with a linear extension mechanism of 71 cm. This allows the tailgate / rear doors to be opened even on the aforementioned vehicle category.
[0004] However, until now there has been no way to mount a rear box on this bicycle carrier.
[0005] The numbers in parentheses mentioned below refer to the figures and components in the drawings.
[0006] With our adapter consoles (1) described in the protective claim, a secure, form-fitting and force-fit connection between the rear box and the bicycle carrier is achieved.
[0007] The adapter brackets (1) made of aluminium rectangular tube profiles are attached in pairs using two M8 hammerhead screws (2) in the T-slots of the bicycle carrier (7) ( Fig. C).
[0008] The pipe profiles are protected from laterally penetrating dirt by end plugs (5) (Figure A, B).
[0009] The predefined mounting position of the adapter brackets is achieved using spacer strips as an aid.
[0010] A 13mm socket wrench is inserted through the openings (3) in the top of the adapter brackets and into the recesses for the original fastening element (6) for fastening, before the latter is inserted and secured by means of a sheet metal screw.
[0011] The M8 fastening nuts on the ends of the hammerhead screws (2) are located, not visible, inside (Figure A, B).
[0012] Tightening torque: approx. 5-6 Nm.
[0013] The adapter consoles have original mounting elements (6) from the manufacturer of the rear box and two rivet nuts (4) incorporated on the top side (Figure A, B).
[0014] The rear box is then inserted into the original mounting elements (6) by means of two guide pins on the underside of the rear box and screwed into the M8 rivet nuts (4) with two mounting screws (Figure A, B).
