Description of the invention
[0008] The object of the invention is to create an electric bus belonging to the technical field mentioned at the outset, which has the largest possible usable area in the passenger compartment and in which the drive components are easily accessible.
[0009] The solution to the problem is defined by the features of claim 1. According to the invention, an electric bus has a chassis and a body with a roof mounted thereon, which surrounds a passenger compartment. The electric bus further has a first, steered axle and a second axle located behind the first, steered axle in the direction of travel. The second axle is driven by at least one electric motor. The electric bus further has at least one energy storage device for supplying the at least one electric motor with power, a converter system, a
[0010] A cooling system for the at least one energy storage device and a charging system that can be releasably connected to a power grid to charge the at least one energy storage device. The at least one energy storage device and the cooling system are arranged on the roof. The at least one electric motor is a wheel hub motor on the second axle or is arranged on the chassis of the electric bus in front of the second axle in the direction of travel. The passenger compartment is free of drive components behind the second axle in the direction of travel.
[0011] The specific arrangement of at least one energy storage unit, the cooling system, and the at least one electric motor, combined with the free space behind the second axle, allows for the largest possible usable space in the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the chosen arrangement allows for easy access to the drive components for maintenance and repair purposes.
[0012] In this application, the term "electric bus" refers to a bus that can drive independently using electrical energy stored in at least one energy storage device. It has neither an internal combustion engine nor pantograph poles, as is the case with diesel, gas, or hybrid buses or trolleybuses.
[0013] The electric bus is preferably a city bus. However, the electric bus according to the invention can also be configured as an intercity bus. The differences in the configuration between a city bus and an intercity bus lie in the range of the electric bus, the number of passenger doors, and the number and arrangement of seats and grab bars within the passenger compartment. City buses generally have a higher number of passenger doors, while the passenger compartment is optimized for rapid passenger boarding and the highest possible passenger capacity, thus sometimes providing a larger area for standing room. Intercity buses, on the other hand, have fewer passenger doors and their passenger compartment is more seat-optimized, since passengers generally sit in the bus for longer periods and the frequency of passenger boarding is lower.Since an intercity bus has to cover longer distances before reaching a charging station again and also travels at higher speeds and longer distances between stops than a city bus, the drive components must be configured differently accordingly.
[0014] The chassis and body are constructed in a conventional manner, although the body can be designed differently depending on the application and / or operator of the electric bus, particularly with regard to its shape, number, and arrangement of windows and passenger doors. The electric bus according to the invention has a driver's area or cab within the passenger compartment. Depending on whether the electric bus is configured for right-hand or left-hand traffic, this is located either at the front left or right in the direction of travel. The passenger doors are also located on the right or left in the direction of travel, depending on the situation. In special versions of the electric bus, for example as an airport bus, passenger doors can also be located on both sides.
[0015] In the following application, the "direction of travel" refers to the main direction of travel of the electric bus, i.e., the direction in which the electric bus travels when carrying passengers. It is understood that the electric bus can also travel in the opposite direction for maneuvering, which is commonly referred to as reversing. Accordingly, the direction of travel corresponds to the forward direction of the electric bus.
[0016] The second axle is preferably a rigid axle that cannot be steered. However, depending on the length of the electric bus or the required turning circle of the electric bus, the second axle can also be steered. The second axle is driven by the electric motor. Both direct drive of the second axle via a wheel hub motor and drive via a transmission arranged between the second axle and the at least one electric motor are possible.
[0017] The at least one energy storage device can, in particular, be a rechargeable battery (accumulator) and / or a supercapacitor (supercapacitor). Preferably, the electric bus has more than one energy storage device. In addition to the electric motor, all auxiliary consumers of the electric bus, such as interior and exterior lighting, heating, information system, etc., are preferably supplied with power by the at least one energy storage device.
[0018] The converter system can convert alternating current into direct current, with the electric bus preferably also having at least one DC-DC converter with which different voltages can be generated for auxiliary loads, e.g., 24 V. The converter system preferably comprises at least one converter and at least one contact box, in particular several converters and several contact boxes.
[0019] The charging system serves to charge the at least one energy storage device with electricity. The charging system can, for example, be connected to a power grid manually by the driver of the electric bus, for example via a socket and a charging cable. Preferably, however, the charging system is designed such that it connects to a power grid autonomously or at the push of a button by the driver. This can be implemented, for example, via a raising and lowering pantograph arranged on the electric bus, which can be brought into contact with corresponding contact surfaces of a charging station. Alternatively, the charging system can also consist of contact surfaces on the roof of the electric bus, which can be brought into contact with an element, particularly in the form of a pantograph, that can be raised and lowered by a charging station.Alternatively, the charging system can also be designed differently, for example as a receiver of a wireless energy transmission system.
[0020] The electric bus preferably also has corresponding control electronics which monitors and controls the charge state of the at least one energy storage device as well as the consumption values of the at least one electric motor and the auxiliary consumers.
[0021] There are no drive components located behind the second axle of the electric bus, meaning that the passenger compartment area in this part of the electric bus can be used entirely for transporting passengers. This area of the passenger compartment can be designed as a standing area or storage area for wheelchairs or strollers. Alternatively, seats can also be arranged in this area. The electric bus preferably has a passenger door in this area behind the second axle.
[0022] In the present application, components of the drive are understood to be the at least one electric motor, the at least one energy storage device, the converter system and the cooling system for the at least one energy storage device.
[0023] The charging system is preferably mounted on the roof above the first, steered axle. This offers the advantage, among other things, that the driver sits relatively close to the charging system, allowing the driver to accurately assess its position relative to a charging station when approaching it.
[0024] The charging system is preferably arranged symmetrically with respect to a longitudinal axis of the electric bus, i.e. the charging system extends substantially equally far from the longitudinal axis on both sides of the longitudinal axis.
[0025] The loading system is arranged above the first axis, which means that the center of gravity of the loading system is located substantially vertically above the first axis, with the center of gravity of the loading system being no more than 0.5 meters along the longitudinal axis from a point directly above the first axis.
[0026] The charging system is preferably partially surrounded by walls or panels, at least on its sides, and can be automatically connected to the external power grid, for example at the push of a button by the driver.
[0027] Preferably, at least one air conditioning unit is additionally arranged on the roof to cool the passenger compartment. By arranging the at least one air conditioning unit on the roof of the electric bus, the usable area of the passenger compartment can be further increased compared to arranging the at least one air conditioning unit in the rear area of the passenger compartment.
[0028] The at least one air conditioning system is preferably also designed such that it can also heat the passenger compartment. The at least one air conditioning system is supplied with power as an auxiliary consumer, preferably by the at least one energy storage device.
[0029] Preferably, the converter system is located on the roof next to or directly behind the charging system in the direction of travel. This also places the converter system above or in the immediate vicinity of the first axle. If the converter system is located next to the charging system, components of the converter system are preferably located on both sides of the charging system.
[0030] Immediately behind the charging system means that there is no more than 1 meter distance between the charging system and the component of the converter system furthest from the charging system.
[0031] The converter system preferably has a housing that at least partially surrounds the components of the converter system in order to protect them, for example, from dirt, stone chips or the weather.
[0032] In an alternative preferred embodiment, the converter system can also be arranged in the region of the at least one electric motor on or above the chassis and in front of the second axle in the direction of travel.
[0033] Preferably, the at least one electric motor is arranged on the right side in the direction of travel.
[0034] This lateral arrangement ensures that there is sufficient space in the center of the passenger compartment for a level walkway and standing area. If the at least one electric motor is not a wheel hub motor, it is preferably arranged above the chassis, allowing the electric bus according to the invention to be designed as a low-floor bus.
[0035] The body preferably has a maintenance flap accessible from the outside in the area of the at least one electric motor, so that the at least one electric motor can be easily maintained and repaired from the outside.
[0036] The electric bus is preferably a solo bus. As a solo bus, the electric bus according to the invention preferably has a length of 8 to 16 meters, in particular 10 to 12 meters.
[0037] The at least one energy storage device is preferably arranged in an area on the roof which is located in front of the second axle in the direction of travel, in particular between the first, steered axle and the second axle.
[0038] This means that in this embodiment, the center of gravity of the at least one energy storage device lies between the first and the second axle, with no component of the at least one energy storage device being located above or behind the second axle of the electric bus in the direction of travel.
[0039] This arrangement allows the weight of the at least one energy storage device to be distributed between the first and the second axle, which is particularly advantageous when the electric bus is designed as a solo bus with regard to axle load and roadholding.
[0040] When the electric bus is designed as a 12-meter-long solo bus, the at least one energy storage unit is preferably arranged on the roof of the electric bus in such a way that its center of gravity is between 3 and 6 meters, in particular 4 meters, behind the first axle.
[0041] Preferably, the at least one air conditioning system is arranged on the roof behind and / or above the second axle in the direction of travel.
[0042] This arrangement allows the load on the roof of the electric bus designed as a solo bus to be optimally distributed, especially when the charging system is arranged above the first axle.
[0043] The cooling system is preferably arranged in front of the at least one energy storage unit in the direction of travel. When the electric bus is configured as a solo bus, the cooling system is therefore arranged between the charging system / converter system and the at least one energy storage unit. Particularly preferably, the at least one air conditioning system is arranged on the roof of the electric bus such that its center of gravity is 9 meters or more from the first axle.
[0044] In addition to a solo bus, the electric bus according to the invention can also preferably be an articulated bus, which has a front carriage part with the first, steered axle and the second axle as well as a second carriage part, wherein the second carriage part is connected to the first carriage part via an articulated part and has a third axle.
[0045] As is well known, the rear part of the car also has a chassis and a body.
[0046] The articulated part preferably comprises a turntable that connects both car parts, as well as a bellows that creates a continuous connection for passengers between the passenger compartment in the front part of the car and the passenger compartment in the rear part of the car.
[0047] Preferably, the passenger compartment behind the third axle in the direction of travel is free of drive components. This allows the usable space of the passenger compartment to be further maximized.
[0048] The third axle is preferably a rigid axle. However, depending on the intended use of the electric bus or the desired turning circle, the third axle can also be an actively or passively steered axle.
[0049] In the articulated bus variant, the electric bus according to the invention preferably has two passenger doors in the front section of the vehicle and one or two passenger doors in the rear section. The length of the electric bus as an articulated bus is preferably between 14 and 18.75 meters.
[0050] The electric bus according to the invention can alternatively be designed as a double-articulated bus, which has a front, middle, and rear section. The sections are each connected by an articulated part.
[0051] If the electric bus is designed as an articulated bus, it preferably has several energy storage units, which are arranged on the roof of the front section of the vehicle in the direction of travel behind the first, steered axle and on the rear section of the vehicle in the direction of travel in front of the third axle.
[0052] This ensures that the weight of the energy storage units is evenly distributed across all three axles. When using rechargeable batteries, these can weigh up to 4 tonnes, making it important to distribute the weight as evenly as possible to ensure that the respective axle load is not too high. The energy storage units are preferably arranged on the roof in such a way that their center of gravity is at least 7 meters in the direction of travel behind the first, steered axle. As a result, the center of gravity of the energy storage units is preferably at least 1 meter in the direction of travel behind the second axle and preferably at least 7 meters in front of the third axle. The energy storage units are therefore preferably arranged on the roof of the electric bus in such a way that their center of gravity is essentially halfway between the first and third axles.
[0053] Preferably, both the front part of the vehicle and the rear part of the vehicle each have at least one air conditioning system, wherein the at least one air conditioning system of the front part of the vehicle is arranged in front of the energy storage units in the direction of travel and the at least one air conditioning system of the rear part of the vehicle is arranged in the direction of travel behind and / or above the third axle on the roof.
[0054] The at least one air conditioning system of the front section of the vehicle is therefore preferably located between the charging system and the energy storage units. In the rear section of the vehicle, the at least one air conditioning system is preferably the last element, viewed in the direction of travel, located on the roof of the electric bus in the articulated bus variant.
[0055] The cooling system is preferably located on the rear section of the vehicle, in the direction of travel, behind the energy storage units. The cooling system is connected to the energy storage units on the front section of the vehicle via appropriate flexible lines to enable cooling of all energy storage units of the electric bus.
[0056] The at least one energy storage device is preferably at least one rechargeable battery. The number, size, storage capacity, and type of batteries can be varied depending on the intended use of the electric bus. The required range, average driving speed, and topography of the area of operation are particularly important, as these factors have a significant influence on the energy consumption of the electric bus.
[0057] The loading system comprises, in particular, a raising and lowering pantograph. Raising and lowering can be accomplished in a known manner using a pneumatic, hydraulic, or electromechanical drive.
[0058] Further advantageous embodiments and combinations of features of the invention emerge from the following detailed description and the entirety of the patent claims. Short description of the drawings

[0063] The roof 4 of the electric bus 1 houses the other drive components in addition to the electric motor 11, in particular the energy storage units 7, which in the embodiment shown are configured as batteries. The energy storage units 7 are arranged on the roof 4 of the electric bus 1 in an area between the first axle 5 and the second axle 6. As a result, the center of gravity of the energy storage units 7 lies between the first axle 5 and the second axle. Furthermore, a charging system 10 is located on the roof 4 of the electric bus 1. The charging system 10 is located on the roof 4 above the first axle 5, with the center of gravity of the charging system 10 being located substantially above the first axle 5. An inverter system 8 is arranged on both sides next to the charging system 10. A cooling system 9 for the energy storage units 7 is located on the roof 4 of the electric bus 1 between the inverter system 8 or the charging system 10 and the energy storage units 7.An air conditioning system 13 is arranged on the roof 4 of the electric bus 1 in an area above and behind the second axle 6 in the direction of travel.
[0064] An area 13 of the passenger compartment in the direction of travel behind the second axle 6 is free of drive components, so that in this area 13 the entire area within the body is available as usable space, for example for a standing area, a storage area for strollers or wheelchairs or for additional seats.
[0065] The Fig. 3 shows a non-inventive embodiment of an electric bus 20 as an articulated bus in a side view. The Fig.4shows the same embodiment, not according to the invention, in a plan view of the roof 4. The electric bus 20 comprises a front carriage section 21 and a rear carriage section 22. The two carriage sections 21, 22 are connected to one another in an articulated manner by an articulated part 23. The articulated part comprises a turntable 24, which connects the chassis of the front carriage section 21 to the chassis of the rear carriage section 22, as well as a bellows, which creates a continuous connection between the passenger compartment of the front carriage section 21 and the rear carriage section 22.
[0066] The front section 21 of the vehicle has the first, steered axle 5 and the second axle 6. As in the first embodiment, the electric motor 11 (indicated by dashed lines) is located in front of the second axle 6, as seen in the direction of travel (arrow), again on the side of the electric bus where the passenger doors are located. This is again the right side, since the electric bus 1 is configured for right-hand traffic. The electric motor 11 drives the second axle 6.
[0067] The rear carriage section 22 has a third axle 27. In the embodiment shown, a second electric motor 28 (indicated by dashed lines) is arranged in front of the third axle 27, as seen in the direction of travel, and drives the third axle 27.
[0068] On the roof 4 of the electric bus 1, a charging system 10 is arranged above the first axle 5. A converter system 8 is located on both sides of the charging system 10. A first group of energy storage units 7.1, which in the embodiment shown are designed as rechargeable batteries, is arranged on the roof 4 of the front vehicle section 21. A second group of energy storage units 7.2 is located on the roof 4 of the rear vehicle section 22. The two groups of energy storage units 7.1, 7.2 are arranged on the roof 4 such that they are located between the first axle 5 and the third axle 27. The energy storage units 7.1, 7.2 thus extend on both sides of the articulated part 23 on the roof 4 of the electric bus 1.
[0069] A first air conditioning system 13.1 for the front section 21 of the vehicle is arranged on the roof 4 of the vehicle between the charging system 10 or the converter system 8 and the first group of energy storage units 7.1. A second air conditioning system 13.2 for the rear section 22 of the vehicle is arranged on the roof 4 of the vehicle, behind the third axle 27 as seen in the direction of travel. A cooling system 9 for the energy storage units 7.1, 7.2 arranged in the two groups is located between the second group of energy storage units 7.2 and the second air conditioning system 13.2.
[0070] Connecting lines 26 are arranged above the bellows 25, with which electricity and cooling liquid for the energy storage devices can be conducted between the car parts 21, 22.
[0071] In the illustrated embodiment of the electric bus 1 as an articulated bus, a second area 29 in the direction of travel behind the third axle 27 is also free of drive components. This allows the available usable area of the passenger compartment to be maximized.
[0072] The Fig. 5 shows a first embodiment of an area 13 or a second area 29 in the direction of travel behind the second axle 6 or the third axle 27. Only a section of the electric bus 1 is shown with a schematic top view of the passenger compartment. As can be seen, there are no drive components in the passenger compartment behind the second axle 6 or the third axle 27 in the direction of travel. This means that in this area 13, 29, the entire area can be used as usable space of the passenger compartment. As shown on the Fig. 5As can be seen, seats 32 are located in an area above the second axle 6 or the third axle 27, with a free, standing-optimized area 31 located behind the second axle 6 or the third axle 27, as seen in the direction of travel. This standing-optimized area 31 can also be used as a parking area for strollers or wheelchairs. In the area 13, 29 behind the second axle 6 or behind the third axle 27, there is also a rear passenger door 32, through which passengers can enter or exit the standing-optimized area 31 directly.
[0073] The Fig. 6 shows a second embodiment of an area 13 or a second area 29 in the direction of travel behind the second axle 6 or behind the third axle 27 analogous to Fig. 5 . In the embodiment according to Fig. 5Behind the second axle 6 or behind the third axle 27 there is a seating-optimized area 33 with additional rows of seats 32
[0074] It should be clear to the expert that a hybrid of the two in the Fig. 5 and the Fig. 6 shown embodiments is possible, for example a standing-room optimized area 31 with a row of five seats at the rear.
