Existing passenger seat designs face challenges in providing flexible usability and comfort while adhering to safety standards, particularly in adapting functions within a limited space and accommodating varying aircraft orientations during flight.
A passenger seat with a pivotable table top attached to a structural component via a joint arrangement, allowing for precise adjustment in multiple directions (height, side, and inclination) to ensure the table top remains horizontal during flight, using a connecting arrangement with screw connections for stable and space-efficient adjustment.
The solution enables the table top to be precisely aligned and securely positioned, preventing objects from slipping or falling during flight, while allowing for space-saving storage when not in use, thus enhancing both usability and safety.
Description
State of the art
[0001] For equipping aircraft for passenger transport, such as passenger aircraft, passenger seats or rows of seats, usually with several passenger seats next to each other, are known in a variety of designs.
[0002] When designing aircraft passenger seats, it is essential to provide a high level of user-friendliness and ease of operation, for example, by offering various functions in a compact space while adhering to safety standards. In particular, flexible adjustment of the functions and their functional elements is desirable.
[0003] For example, EP 3 081 492 A1 discloses a folding table for mounting on the back of a passenger seat's backrest. US 2019 / 0283881 A1 discloses a passenger seat with a vertically adjustable device carrier. The carrier for personal devices comprises a support plate integrated into the back of the passenger seat and a folding tray arrangement with a base adjustable to allow vertical movement of the tray arrangement relative to the support plate. Purpose and advantages of the invention
[0004] The object of the present invention is to provide an improved passenger seat with which a high level of user and operating comfort can be flexibly achieved.
[0005] This problem is solved by independent claim 1.
[0006] The invention relates to an aircraft passenger seat comprising a structural component on which a table top of the aircraft seat is received via a joint arrangement, wherein the table top is pivotable about a pivot axis of the joint arrangement.
[0007] The structural component belongs to the mechanically load-bearing structure of the passenger seat, such as the seat's basic structure. For example, the basic structure is a seat frame. The load-bearing structure of the passenger seat is a mechanically load-bearing basic structure. The load-bearing structure of the passenger seat is, for example, a rigid frame, consisting of several mechanically stable frame sections or elements, such as rigid elongated and / or planar components made of, for example, a metal material. The structural component is preferably part of the frame or is such a frame element. The frame elements are generally rigidly connected to the basic structure. The frame forms, for example, the mechanically stable, three-dimensional basic structure of the passenger seat, which is located internally in the finished passenger seat. The frame with its structural component is usually not visible from the outside of the finished passenger seat, for example, concealed by a housing and / or upholstery. The frame absorbs forces and / or moments acting on the passenger seat and the person seated in it, and transfers these to adjacent sections, such as the cabin floor of an aircraft cabin in which the passenger seat is mounted, for example, bolted to the cabin floor. Additional elements of the passenger seat can be mounted to the frame, such as seat cushions, backrest cushions, leg rests, or add-on components like a fold-down table, armrests, or storage compartments.
[0008] The core of the invention lies in the provision of a connection arrangement for the detachable attachment of the tabletop to the structural component. This connection arrangement includes adjustment means for setting a mounting position of the tabletop relative to the structural component. The adjustment means are designed such that the mounting position can be selected from a plurality of different mounting positions of the tabletop relative to the structural component. This allows for adjustment of the tabletop on the passenger seat, in particular to bring the tabletop into a precise predetermined or desired mounting position and thus into its operating position. With the connection arrangement and the adjustment means, the tabletop can be moved to the desired mounting position on the passenger seat, especially on the rear side of the passenger seat, preferably continuously or in finely graduated adjustment steps. The mounting position can be adjusted in millimeter increments. Accordingly, adjacent possible mounting positions may differ by, for example, approximately one or more millimeters or by a few degrees when it comes to adjusting the tilt of the tabletop in use.
[0009] The structural component is, in particular, a component that extends along the backrest of the passenger seat. Two elongated, plate-like, upright structural components are provided on a base structure, located on both sides along the backrest of the passenger seat. The structural component has a sandwich structure to achieve high mechanical stability at a low weight. The base structure of the passenger seat preferably comprises, for example, two strip-shaped structural components spaced horizontally apart along the width of the passenger seat and extending vertically along the height of the passenger seat. Each of the two structural components, located along a side of the passenger seat and extending along the height of the backrest, preferably has a connection for the detachable attachment of the tabletop. The tabletop is preferably hinged to the passenger seat at two points. These two points are, for example, located on one of the rear longitudinal edges of the tabletop. A second, hinged tabletop section is typically attached to the first tabletop section, allowing it to be folded in and out relative to the first section, which is itself hinged to the structural component.
[0010] In principle, a hinged attachment of the tabletop is conceivable at exactly one point or with exactly one joint on exactly one structural component.
[0011] Preferably, the tabletop is connected to the structural component via two attachment or mounting points, which are located on the tabletop, for example, on a rear end face. Preferably, the mounting position can be adjusted separately or independently at each of these points. This adjustment allows not only for fine-tuning the mounting position but also for precisely setting the spatial orientation of the tabletop. This enables the tabletop to be positioned exactly on the passenger seat, so that in its usable position, it can be brought into a precise lateral, vertical, and horizontal alignment, e.g., with the surface or the shelf provided by the tabletop aligned with the top of the tabletop into a desired horizontal position. This also takes into account any tilt of the aircraft's longitudinal axis that occurs during flight operations, ensuring that the tabletop remains horizontally aligned for the majority of the flight. This prevents objects placed on the tabletop from sliding or falling off during flight.
[0012] Preferably, the tabletop is connected to a corresponding side or structural component, for example on the inside, via two attachment points, for example in the area of a hinge arrangement for folding the tabletop up and down on the passenger seat. The opposing and horizontally spaced structural components form, for example, two floor-supported vertical columns of the base structure, which regularly include a transverse element at the upper end of the structural components that rigidly connects the two structural components to each other.
[0013] Advantageously, the adjustment means are designed to set the mounting position of the tabletop along a first adjustment direction and additionally to set the mounting position of the tabletop along a second adjustment direction, wherein the first and second adjustment directions are perpendicular to each other. Preferably, the two adjustment directions define two spatial axes that are perpendicular to each other. The adjustment directions preferably comprise exactly two spatial axes or directions, or three spatial axes that are perpendicular to each other. For example, the first adjustment direction is a vertical direction, and a second adjustment direction is a horizontal direction. A third adjustment direction can be a further horizontal direction perpendicular to the first horizontal direction.
[0014] The adjustment along the first direction relates, for example, to the height of the tabletop, the adjustment along the second direction relates, for example, to the side of the tabletop, and the adjustment along the third direction relates, for example, to the depth of the tabletop.
[0015] Another adjustment direction involves adjusting the tabletop around an axis, for example, to adjust the tabletop's tilt. This is based on a desired operating condition of the tabletop, preferably related to the aircraft's longitudinal axis tilt during continuous flight operation when the aircraft's longitudinal axis is slanted, which differs from the longitudinal axis's orientation on the ground or during descent, since the tabletop is generally not used in these situations.
[0016] With an advantageous design of the adjustment means, whereby the tabletop can preferably be adjusted independently in three adjustment directions, the tabletop can be optimally aligned spatially, e.g. in a height, in a side and in a depth position of the tabletop relative to the structural component.
[0017] Preferably, the adjustment mechanism is designed such that the tilt of the tabletop can be adjusted in its unfolded position. This allows the tabletop to be brought into a horizontal orientation. During flight operations, this prevents objects placed on the tabletop, such as drinking vessels and dishes, from sliding off, as the tabletop remains horizontal.
[0018] It is also advantageous if the tabletop with the joint arrangement can be pivoted from an upright position of the tabletop folded against the structural component into a usable position of the tabletop projecting from the structural component and back from the usable position to the upright position, wherein the adjusting means include tilt adjusting means which are designed for adjusting the tilt of the tabletop in the usable position of the tabletop.
[0019] The hinged design allows the tabletop to be folded down when not in use, for example, against the back of the passenger seat or the back of the seat's enclosure. This saves space and ensures the tabletop is vertically oriented, preventing it from obstructing the movement of a passenger sitting behind the seat who might be using the tabletop. To fold the tabletop down, it is lowered from its upright position (e.g., folded upwards) into its usable position.
[0020] With the tilt adjustment means, when the tabletop projects behind the passenger seat in the usable position, a flat surface of the tabletop, or the upper surface of the tabletop, can be tilted, preferably to a desired approximately or exactly horizontal orientation, relative to a selected orientation or tilt of the passenger seat or its vertical axis. The orientation of the vertical axis of the passenger seat in a passenger aircraft on the ground differs from the orientation of the vertical axis of the passenger seat during flight. The orientation of the folded-down tabletop in the usable position also depends on this. It is desirable that, in the usable position, the upper surface of the tabletop is aligned parallel to the horizontal. This orientation in the usable state is advantageous with regard to the flight operation of the corresponding passenger aircraft. The cabin floor, on which the passenger seat is mounted, is typically angled to the horizontal, sloping upwards towards the seat. Advantageously, the adjustable tilt mechanism allows items placed on the tray table, such as drinking vessels or dishes like plates, to rest securely on the tabletop.
[0021] An advantageous modification of the invention is shown in that the adjusting means comprise height adjusting means which are designed for adjusting a height mounting position of the table top along a vertical adjustment direction.
[0022] The vertical adjustment direction refers to the tabletop's installation position at the passenger seat. This vertical adjustment allows for setting a desired height, for example, to a specific position along the vertical axis or relative to a distance between the cabin floor and the tabletop.
[0023] Furthermore, it is advantageous that the adjustment means include lateral adjustment means which are designed for adjusting a lateral mounting position of the tabletop along a horizontal adjustment direction.
[0024] The side adjustment means allow for precise lateral alignment, for example in the width direction or perpendicular to the seating direction, or in the center of the passenger seat or, for example, between two structural components of the passenger seat.
[0025] Furthermore, it is advantageous that the adjusting means include a screw connection with a screw element that engages through a slotted hole and can be screwed into a threaded section.
[0026] The screw connection offers a stable and space-saving way to adjust the mounting position. Furthermore, the screw connection advantageously allows not only for adjusting the mounting position but also for simultaneously attaching the connection assembly to the structural component and / or the tabletop and / or connecting elements of the assembly to one another.
[0027] The respective screw connection advantageously comprises exactly two screw elements, each with its own screw hole.
[0028] According to an advantageous modification, the connection arrangement comprises several connection components, wherein a first connection component is attached to the structural component and the first connection component is connected to a second connection component of the connection arrangement.
[0029] This makes attaching the connection assembly to the structural component simple or possible in just a few steps.
[0030] For the fastening of the first connecting component, suitable sections are provided on the first connecting component itself and on the structural component, for example with openings for rivet elements or with screw holes with an internal thread for matching screws with an external thread.
[0031] The multiple connecting components of the assembly are preferably connected to each other by means of screws. Preferably, each screw element engages through a corresponding elongated hole in the first connecting component.
[0032] Accordingly, it is advantageous if fasteners are provided on the first connecting component and / or on the second connecting component for connecting the second connecting component to the first connecting component. These fasteners are preferably screws.
[0033] Preferably, the connecting components belong to the adjusting means, or the connecting components form the connecting arrangement and simultaneously the adjusting means.
[0034] Another advantage arises when the second connecting component is connected to the joint arrangement.
[0035] Preferably, the second connecting component engages the joint arrangement.
[0036] Preferably, the second connecting component and the joint assembly are connected to each other by a screw connection. Preferably with exactly two screw elements, such as screws with a fine external thread, which engage in two corresponding screw holes with a fine internal thread.
[0037] The screws engage through a slotted hole on the second connecting component.
[0038] The longitudinal extent of, for example, the two elongated holes in the first connecting component is preferably parallel to each other.
[0039] The longitudinal extent of, for example, the two elongated holes in the second connecting component is preferably parallel to each other.
[0040] The longitudinal extent of the elongated holes in the first connecting component is preferably perpendicular to the longitudinal extent of the elongated holes in the second connecting component.
[0041] A further advantageous embodiment consists in the height adjustment means comprising a screw connection with a first screw element that engages through a first elongated hole and a second screw element that engages through a second elongated hole. This provides a stable height adjustment.
[0042] The following are advantageous or preferably designed training programs that are not restrictive or that exist alongside other possible variants.
[0043] Each elongated hole, or the pair of elongated holes belonging to the height adjustment mechanism, preferably does not have internal threads, since the elongated holes serve to allow the respective screw element to pass through, but not to interact with the external thread of the screw element. However, in the direction of passage behind the section with the elongated hole, or the component section adjoining it, an internal thread is preferably provided into which the external thread of the screw element can be screwed.
[0044] The two elongated holes for height adjustment, as well as the two slots for lateral adjustment, are arranged in pairs and are separate from each other within a pair of elongated holes. Each screw element can be screwed into a corresponding threaded section located in the component behind the elongated hole in the direction of travel. The screw element is screwed in until the section or component with the elongated hole is clamped and fixed in position by the screw element and the component with the internal thread. The two screw elements belonging to a pair of elongated holes are offset from each other, preferably vertically, and horizontally or laterally in the case of lateral adjustment.
[0045] For example, the first connecting component has the first and second elongated holes for the height adjustment means, through which the respective screw element engages. A threaded section for each of the two screw elements is preferably provided in the second connecting component.
[0046] According to an advantage of the invention, the lateral adjustment means comprise a screw connection with a first screw element that engages through a first elongated hole and a second screw element that engages through a second elongated hole.
[0047] The lateral adjustment means with screw connection comprises, in addition to the screw elements and the elongated holes, a first internal thread section in a first hole and a second internal thread section in a second hole, each in a component behind the second connecting component, preferably a joint part of the joint arrangement.
[0048] The elongated holes without internal threads are separate from each other. The second adjustment component has an elongated hole for the lateral adjustment mechanism, through which the corresponding screw element engages. A threaded section for each of the two screw elements is preferably formed in a joint component of the joint assembly. The internal threaded sections of the height and lateral adjustment mechanisms are preferably aligned parallel to each other, i.e., along the longitudinal axis of the respective screw elements.
[0049] The first and second elongated holes of the height adjustment means and the first elongated hole of the lateral adjustment means are each separate elongated holes.
[0050] Accordingly, the two elongated holes of the lateral adjustment means are each separate parallel elongated holes.
[0051] Furthermore, it is advantageous that the tilt adjustment mechanism includes a screw element, whereby turning the screw element adjusts a part of the joint assembly around the pivot axis provided by the joint assembly. This allows the tilt of the tabletop in its operating position to be easily and continuously adjusted, for example, using a screwdriver.
[0052] Preferably, the tabletop of the passenger seat is detachably attached to two spaced-apart structural components by means of two connecting arrangements. This achieves a mechanically stable two-point attachment or suspension of the tabletop. Preferably, a hinge arrangement for folding the tabletop is implemented at both attachment points.
[0053] Preferably, the attachment takes place on mutually facing inner or surface surfaces of the structural components. The tabletop preferably comprises a first panel component that engages the structural component and a second panel component, such as an additional tabletop, that is hinged to the first panel component. The second panel component can be folded parallel to the first panel component or extend flush with it. This allows the usable surface area of a table to be extended to encompass the entire tabletop. Furthermore, when not in use, the second panel component can be folded compactly against, for example, the top surface of the first panel component.
[0054] The invention further extends to a row of seats comprising several adjacent passenger seats according to one of the embodiments described above. This allows the advantages discussed for a row of seats with multiple passenger seats in an aircraft to be achieved. The passenger seats are preferably arranged laterally aligned with each other in the aircraft.
[0055] For a comfortable seating experience, a passenger seat typically features a padded seat cushion and a padded backrest. In an aircraft, two or more passenger seats are usually arranged side-by-side to form a row. Character description
