Conventional razor planes have a large angle area where the shaving blade can hit the skin at steep, unfavorable angles, increasing the risk of injury.
A razor plane design featuring a curved cover plate with bulges on its sides, which connects to the handle and base, ensuring a closer shaving angle and reducing the risk of blade exposure at steep angles.
The design ensures a gentle and injury-free shave by maintaining a favorable angle between the razor blade and the skin, reducing the risk of cuts and skin irritation across various shaving angles.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a safety razor with a novel shaped cover plate.
[0002] Safety razors, as a type of razor, have been known for a long time. For example, US 775 134 from Gillette already described a safety razor in 1901 as a razor with a thin, double-edged blade made of strip steel, which could be replaced as needed.
[0003] The term "safety razor" originated from the distinction between and differentiated from the classic straight razor, but given the widespread use of system razors today, this term no longer seems appropriate. Therefore, the term "safety razor" is used in reference to the present invention.
[0004] Safety razors typically consist of a handle, a single, replaceable blade, a cap, and a base, also known as a comb. The comb acts as a guard, protecting the user's skin from direct exposure to the blade edge. Although safety razors have been around for over a century, cartridge razors with replaceable multi-blade cartridges are now the most widely used type of razor blade. Nevertheless, safety razors have seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, partly due to long-term cost savings compared to disposable razors, as replacement blades for safety razors are relatively inexpensive. Despite this renewed popularity, safety razors have remained essentially unchanged for many years. Consequently, there is a continuing demand for improved safety razors.
[0005] For example, EP 3 450 121 A1 describes a safety razor with lubricating strips, where the lubricating elements are used to increase the gliding ability of the blade on the skin and thus reduce skin irritation that can be caused by a blade during shaving.
[0006] Document EP 3 549 727 A1 discloses a safety razor according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0007] With the well-known safety razors, also called "double edge" or "double edge safety razors" in English, there is a relatively large angle range in which the razor blade can contact the skin. This means that the razor blade can also hit the skin at a steep, i.e., unfavorable, angle, and the risk of injury is correspondingly high.
[0008] Based on the aforementioned disadvantages of the prior art, the present invention aims to provide a novel safety razor in which the risk of injury due to an unfavorable angle of the blade is significantly reduced.
[0009] This problem is solved in a first aspect of the present invention by a safety razor (1) comprising: a handle (11), a base (13) that can be placed on the handle (11), a domed cover plate (15) that can be placed on the base (13), and a fastening means (17) by means of which the domed cover plate (15) and the base (13) can be connected to the handle (11), wherein the base (13) and the cover plate (15) are designed to accommodate a double-edged razor blade (19) between them, wherein the domed cover plate (15) has a protrusion (151, 153) on its upper surface at each of its outer edges, characterized in that each protrusion (151, 153) extends from the lower edge of the domed cover plate (15) across its center to the opposite lower edge, wherein the protrusions (151, 153) merge seamlessly into the curvature of the domed cover plate (15) at its apex. The term "curved cover plate" is used in the present invention for the closing part of the safety razor (1), which completely covers the razor blade (19) except for the cutting edges and comes into contact with the area of skin to be shaved.
[0010] The essential "bulges" according to the invention are formed integrally with the curved cover plate (15) and are located at its lateral curved edges. While these bulges (151, 153) are practically imperceptible in the apex region of the curved cover plate (15), their contour becomes increasingly pronounced towards the lower edge of the curved cover plate (15), so that they protrude beyond the surface of the curved cover plate (15) at this lower edge.
[0011] The safety razor (1) according to the invention has the advantage that the protrusions (151, 153) regulate the contact between the razor blade (19) and the skin depending on the angle at which the safety razor is applied to the area of skin to be shaved, in particular ensuring a close contact necessary for shaving the hair.
[0012] According to the invention, a very shallow angle of the razor blade (19) to the skin is advantageously ensured, which is conducive to a gentle and, if possible, injury-free shave. This is particularly the case when the handle (11) of the safety razor (1) according to the invention assumes an angle of 20° to 50°, preferably 25° to 40°, to the area of skin to be shaved.
[0013] If a shallower angle of the handle (11) to the skin is chosen, which would result in the razor blade (19) being at a large angle to the skin and, with conventional safety razors, a correspondingly high risk of injury, the inventive bulges (151, 153) create a greater distance between the razor blade (19) and the skin. Consequently, this inventive design significantly reduces the risk of the razor blade (19) striking the skin at a steep angle and thus also the risk of cuts and skin irritation.
[0014] In contrast, if the safety razor (1) according to the invention is applied at a larger angle to the skin, a greater distance between the razor blade (19) and the skin is also created due to its design. The blade then assumes a smaller or shallower angle to the skin. This also significantly reduces the risk of cuts and skin irritation in this case.
[0015] In a further development of the safety razor (1) according to the invention, the protrusions (151, 153) of the curved cover plate (15) are arranged in relation to the base (13) such that they are positioned to the right and left of the at least one double-edged razor blade (19) and cover its lateral ends. This achieves the realization of the advantageous design according to the invention.
[0016] It is further preferred if the base (13) has a recess (131a, 131b, 131c, 131d) in the area of the bulges (151, 153). These recesses (131a, 131b, 131c, 131d) improve the realization of the bulges (151, 153) according to the invention while simultaneously providing lateral coverage of the blade sides. The base (13) is also referred to as a "comb" (English "safety comb" or "safety bar").
[0017] To enable a shave with minimal injuries, it has proven advantageous for the protrusions (151, 153) on the lower edges of the curved cover plate (15) to project 0.8 mm to 1.1 mm, particularly 0.95 mm, beyond the at least one double-edged razor blade (17). This design ensures a consistent distance between the razor blade (17) and the skin, even at very shallow angles of the safety razor (1) to the skin, across the entire width of the safety razor (1). This is important because often only curved areas of skin are shaved, and these are only partially covered by the cutting edge.
[0018] The effect of the present invention, to achieve a gentle and as injury-free a shave as possible by means of a favorable angle of the razor blade (19) to the skin, is advantageously supported by the fact that the curved cover plate (15) has a radius of curvature that is 1 mm to 4 mm smaller than the radius of curvature of the bulges (151, 153).
[0019] The radius of curvature of the bulges is particularly preferred to be 11 mm to 18 mm (151, 153).
[0020] For the practical handling of the safety razor according to the invention, it has proven particularly advantageous if the at least one double-edged razor blade (19) assumes an angle of 45° to 75° relative to the axis of the handle (11).
[0021] In a further embodiment, the safety razor (1) according to the invention can accommodate two double-edged razor blades (19) between the base (13) and the cover plate (15), which are spaced apart from each other by an intermediate piece. This results in an even closer shave.
[0022] The aforementioned problem is solved in a second aspect of the present invention by using a safety razor (1) as described above for shaving, wherein the handle (11) of the safety razor (1) assumes an angle of 20° to 50°, preferably 25° to 40°, to the area of skin to be shaved.
[0023] As described above, according to the invention, a very shallow angle of the razor blade (19) to the skin, which is favorable for a gentle and as injury-free a shave as possible, is advantageously ensured when the handle (11) of the safety razor (1) according to the invention assumes an angle of 20° to 50°, preferably 25° to 40°, to the area of skin to be shaved.
[0024] Further objectives, features, advantages, and applications will become apparent from the following description of exemplary embodiments, which do not limit the invention, with reference to the figures. All features described and / or illustrated, individually or in any combination, constitute the subject matter of the invention, even independently of their compilation in the claims or their cross-references. The figures show: Fig. 1 a schematic representation of a safety razor 1 according to the invention in a disassembled state, Fig. 2 a schematic representation of a base 13, Fig. 3 a schematic representation of a conventional razor blade 19, Fig. 4 a schematic representation of a curved cover plate 15 in perspective view, Fig. 5 a schematic representation of a curved cover plate 15 in top view, Fig. 6 a schematic representation of a curved cover plate 15 in side view and Fig. 7 a schematic representation of a curved cover plate 15 in perspective top view.
[0025] In Figure 1A safety razor 1 according to the invention is shown schematically in its disassembled state. The basic components are the handle 11, the base 13, and the domed cover plate 15. For assembly, after inserting the razor blade 19 (not shown here), the domed cover plate 15 is inserted through the base 13 using the fastening means 17 and connected to the handle 11, preferably by screws.
[0026] Base 13, which is in Figure 2 The base 13 is shown schematically. It has recesses 131a, 131b, 131c, 131d at the corners, which correspond to the projecting ends of the bulges 151, 153. In the center, the base 13 has a through-hole 133 through which the fastening element 17 is guided during assembly. To the sides of this are two adjustment openings 135a, 135b, into which adjustment pins engage. These pins are located on the underside of the curved cover plate 15 and are not shown in the figures.
[0027] Figure 3 Figure 1 schematically shows a conventional razor blade 19, as developed in recent decades as the preferred blade for safety razors. Such a razor blade 19 has a length of 34 mm and a width of 22 mm. The thickness is usually about 0.1 mm. Corresponding to the guide opening 133 and the adjustment openings 135a, 135b, the razor blade 19 also has openings through which it is held securely and with virtually no play in the safety razor.
[0028] In Figure 4 The curved cover plate 15 with the protrusions 151, 153 according to the invention is shown schematically in a perspective view. The fastening means 17 is arranged centrally beneath the curved cover plate 15. In this perspective view, the downward-curving ends of the protrusions 151, 153 are clearly visible, which correspond to the recesses 131a, 131b, 131c, 131d in the base 13.
[0029] The schematic top view of the domed cover plate 15 in Figure 5 This clearly shows how the edges of the base 13 protrude from beneath its edges when no razor blade 19 is inserted. It can also be seen that the protrusions 151, 153 extend laterally past the edges of the base 13 and encompass an inserted razor blade 19.
[0030] The in Figure 5 The arrangement shown is in Figure 6 schematically shown from the side. Here it is shown again how the inventive protrusions 151, 153 extend laterally past the edges of the base 13 and project slightly beyond them in order to regulate the distance between the razor blade 19 and the skin.
[0031] Finally, it shows Figure 7The curved cover plate 15 is shown schematically in a perspective top view, with the razor blade 19 inserted in this representation. This clearly demonstrates how the inventive bulges 151, 153 project beyond the razor blade 19 and thus ensure the advantageous effect of the present invention.
