AI Technical Summary
Existing decoder boxes with external cameras are impractical due to the need for additional cables and installation above a TV, which is subject to high thermal constraints. Additionally, adjustable cameras integrated into the decoder box increase manufacturing costs and are not discreet.
A decoder box with an optical sensor housed inside the box, featuring a tilted vision axis that allows for the capture of relevant images without being visibly exposed, thus protecting it from external environments and thermal constraints.
The solution provides effective protection for the optical sensor from external factors, maintains a discreet appearance, and allows for the capture of relevant images during videoconferences, enhancing user appeal and reducing manufacturing costs.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a decoder box comprising an optical sensor.
[0002] The invention comprises a system equipped with such a box. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] Audio-video decoder boxes (in English, Set-Top Box) traditionally allow the transmission of an audio-video stream, produced by a source, to one or more audio-video playback devices, such as a television. The source can be of the broadcasting type (in English, broadcasting, such as satellite, DTT or cable) or of the OTT type (in English, Over The Top, such as a server connected to the Internet).
[0004] Recently, it has also been proposed to use the decoder box for video conferencing. To do this, the decoder box must be connected to one or more cameras.
[0005] A first solution consists of associating one or more external cameras with the decoder box to be placed above a television and connected to the decoder box by a USB cable.
[0006] However, using one or more external cameras is impractical since it requires fixing above the TV screen and the passage of additional cables.
[0007] Furthermore, this type of external camera must be placed on the television, which is itself subject to high thermal constraints (the top of televisions is generally hot). This is problematic since the cameras used cannot withstand high temperature increases.
[0008] A second solution was then proposed: to fix a swiveling camera directly onto the decoder box.
[0009] In addition, this type of mechanism makes the camera very noticeable to the user. However, users generally prefer the camera to remain discreet so as not to generate an unpleasant feeling of being observed.
[0010] However, this greatly increases the manufacturing cost of the decoder box, especially if the camera orientation mechanism must be able to withstand the vibrations of the speakers possibly integrated into the decoder box.
[0011] Document CN 206350105U discloses a cylindrical decoder box incorporating a camera mounted on a mechanical support for adjusting the optical axis of the camera. Document US 2019 / 012544 A1 discloses a mobile phone incorporating a front-facing camera having a fixed optical axis that is inclined relative to the horizontal plane of the device. Document EP 2 533 516 A1 discloses a television incorporating in the lower part a camera having an optical axis inclined upwards relative to the horizontal plane. SUBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0012] One aim of the invention is therefore to propose a decoder box integrating an optical sensor so that the optical sensor is better protected from the external environment. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0013] In order to achieve this object, we propose a decoder box comprising a box comprising: A first main face, A second main face, At least one lateral flank connecting the first main face to the second main face.
[0014] According to the invention, the housing comprises at least one optical sensor whose field of vision is centered around a given axis, said axis being inclined with respect to a given horizontal plane when the housing is placed on a base, the side being provided with at least one opening passing through the side so as to open at a first end outside the box and at a second end inside the box, the optical sensor being arranged in the box so that said given axis passes through the side via said opening.
[0015] The optical sensor is thus arranged directly in the housing of the case, which allows it to be well protected from the external environment. In addition, because the optical sensor is arranged inside the housing, it is less visible to a user, which is highly sought after.
[0016] Advantageously, by tilting the optical sensor, it is possible to position relevant images of a user even if the optical sensor is not at the user's face. By "relevant" is meant that the images make it possible to view at least the user's face in the field of view of the optical sensor, and preferably also to view the user's upper body in the same field of view.
[0017] The invention therefore makes it possible to ensure a call by videoconference.
[0018] Optionally, the aperture extends longitudinally along a given direction, the optical sensor being arranged so that the axis of vision is parallel to said given direction.
[0019] Optionally, the optical sensor is arranged so that the viewing axis is perpendicular to the lateral flank. Optionally, the optical sensor is arranged so that the given plane is parallel to at least one of the main faces of the box.
[0020] Optionally, the optical sensor is arranged so that its viewing axis is tilted upwards.
[0021] Optionally, the optical sensor is arranged so that its vision axis forms a given angle with an axis of the plane along which one of the main faces of the box extends, said angle being between 3 and 13 degrees.
[0022] The housing includes a bracket carrying the optical sensor.
[0023] The support is a printed circuit board.
[0024] Optionally, the optical sensor is arranged on the support so that its vision axis is perpendicular to a main face of the support.
[0025] Optionally, the bracket is mounted on the box at an angle to the side panel.
[0026] Optionally, the case includes at least one protection.
[0027] Optionally, the protection covers one end of the opening leading to the outside of the box.
[0028] Optionally, the protection is arranged so as to form a continuous plane with the lateral flank.
[0029] Optionally, the protection is arranged between an internal face of the box and the optical sensor.
[0030] Optionally, the opening is shaped at least partly into a truncated cone.
[0031] The box is at least in two parts.
[0032] The optical sensor is located in the upper part of the case.
[0033] The invention relates to a system comprising a housing as mentioned above and means for adjusting the images acquired by the optical sensor.
[0034] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from reading the following description of a particular non-limiting embodiment of the invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0036] With reference to the various figures, a decoder box 1 is described according to a particular embodiment of the invention. The decoder box 1 is for example an audio-video decoder box (in English, Set-Top Box).
[0037] Decoder box 1 includes a subwoofer 2.
[0038] The box 2 comprises a first main face - called the lower main face 3 hereinafter - i.e. the face of the box 2 intended to rest against a base and preferably a piece of furniture such as, for example, a low piece of furniture and, for example, a television cabinet. The lower main face 3 is here flat. The lower main face 3 is intended to extend in a horizontal plane when the lower main face 3 rests against a corresponding horizontal surface of the base.
[0039] Subsequently, we place ourselves in the situation where the decoder box 1 rests on said horizontal flat surface by means of its lower main face 3.
[0040] The box 2 also has a second main face called the upper main face 4 hereinafter. This upper main face 4 is arranged opposite the lower main face 3.
[0041] The two main faces 3, 4 here have the same external periphery (in shape and dimensions). For example, the two main faces 3, 4 are shaped like a square or a rectangle.
[0042] The box 2 also comprises at least one lateral flank connecting the upper main face 4 to the lower main face 3.
[0043] In this case, the box 2 has four lateral flanks 5 (only one of which is referenced here) connecting the two main faces 3, 4 together.
[0044] Preferably, the boundary between two successive flanks 5 is formed by a fillet. Likewise, the edges of the upper main face 4 are rounded. Likewise, the edges of the lower main face 3 are rounded.
[0045] This avoids the presence of sharp edges or angles on box 2.
[0046] In the present case, the two main faces 3, 4 extend in two different planes but parallel to each other and to a common plane defined by a first axis X and a second axis Y perpendicular to each other. The different flanks 5 also extend parallel two by two. Two flanks 5 thus extend parallel to each other and to a common plane defined by the first axis X and a third axis Z, perpendicular to the first axis X and the third axis Y. Two flanks extend parallel to each other and to a common plane defined by the second axis Y and the third axis Z.
[0047] The flanks 5 therefore extend orthogonally to the main faces 3, 4.
[0048] Preferably, the height of the flanks 5 (along the third axis Z) is less than the width or length (along the axes Y and X) of the two main faces 3, 4.
[0049] Box 2 thus has a generally parallelepiped shape.
[0050] The box 2 is in at least two parts. For example, the box 2 comprises a base 6 and a cover 7 jointly forming the box 2.
[0051] Preferably, the base 6 and the cover 7 are capable of being fitted or snapped into one another. Preferably, once the base 6 and the cover 7 are secured to one another, they are fixed to one another by first fixing means comprising, for example, screws. Typically, the cover 7 forms at least the upper main face 4 and an upper portion of the various lateral flanks. The base 6 forms the lower main face 3 and the complementary portion of the lateral flanks. Preferably, the cover 7 has a height (along the third axis Z) lower than that of the base 6.
[0052] Furthermore, the decoder box 1 includes an optical sensor 8.
[0053] In a manner known per se, the optical sensor 8 has a field of vision 9 (i.e. the area of vision that the optical sensor 8 can capture during an image capture) which is centered around an axis of vision 10 of the optical sensor 8. Typically the field of vision 9 has a cross-section (of section plane normal to the axis of vision 10) which is square or rectangular, the section widening as one moves away from the optical sensor 8. The field of vision of the optical sensor 8 is therefore here at least partly a truncated pyramid, the axis of vision 10 forming the height of said pyramid. The pyramid here has a square or rectangular base.
[0054] The optical sensor 8 is arranged in the decoder box 1 so as to be fixed relative to the box 2.
[0055] In this way, this limits the size of the optical sensor 8.
[0056] Furthermore, the optical sensor 8 is thus less sensitive to vibrations, which is highly preferable in the optional case where the decoder box 1 is equipped with loudspeakers.
[0057] The optical sensor 8 is for example a camera and for example a camera comprising an electronic sensor (for example of the CMOS or CCD type) and at least one optical lens.
[0058] The optical sensor 8 is entirely arranged inside the housing 2.
[0059] Typically, at least one opening 11 is provided in one of the lateral sides 5 of the decoder box 1.
[0060] The opening 11 therefore extends across the front of the decoder box 1.
[0061] The opening 11 extends through the lateral flank 5 in a rectilinear manner in a direction A.
[0062] In this case, the opening 11 is provided in the cover 7.
[0063] The opening 11 is through so as to open at a first end inside the box 2 and at a second end outside the box 2.
[0064] The opening 11 has a cross-section (according to a section plane normal to direction A) which is here circular.
[0065] The opening 11 has a cross-section which expands towards the outside of the box 2.
[0066] Thus the opening 11 is shaped like a truncated cone over at least one section of the opening 11.
[0067] The optical sensor 8 is furthermore arranged so that its axis of vision 10 extends through the lateral flank 5 from the inside of the box 2 to the outside of the box 2 via said opening 11. The axis of vision 10 is of course an imaginary axis so that it therefore extends virtually through the opening 11. Thus, the fact that the optical sensor 8 is set back inside the box 2 makes it possible to protect the optical sensor 8 well. In particular, a lens of said optical sensor 8 is thus well protected from incident light which would limit the quality of the images acquired by the optical sensor 8.
[0068] Furthermore, the optical sensor 8 is arranged so that its vision axis 10 is inclined (i.e. neither parallel nor orthogonal) with respect to a given plane. The given plane is for example a plane parallel to the upper main face 4 and / or to the lower main face 3.
[0069] Thus, said plane is horizontal when the lower main face 3 rests on the base.
[0070] Therefore, the vision axis 10 is inclined with respect to the horizontal in this case.
[0071] The inclination of the field of vision 9 of the optical sensor 8 with respect to the horizontal advantageously makes it possible to acquire relevant images.
[0072] The axis of vision 9 is thus also inclined (and not orthogonal) to the lateral flank 5 in which the opening 11 is formed.
[0073] Optionally, the vision axis 9 is inclined upwards with respect to the plane in which the lower main face 3 extends.
[0074] This makes it possible to acquire relevant images of the user even if the decoder box 1 is arranged on a low piece of furniture, for example a low piece of furniture between 40 and 80 centimetres high from the ground.
[0075] For example, the optical sensor 8 is arranged so that its vision axis 10 forms an angle α with a horizontal axis 100 (which is then normal to the lateral flank 5 crossed by the opening 11) which is between 3 and 13 degrees and for example between 4 and 8 degrees and for example between 5 and 7 degrees and is for example 6 degrees.
[0076] Advantageously, by placing the optical sensor 8 in the upper part of the decoder box 1, the value of the angle α to be applied is limited to compensate for a low position of the decoder box 1 when the base is a low piece of furniture such as a television cabinet.
[0077] Preferably, the direction A along which the opening 11 extends axially is parallel to the axis of vision 10 of the optical sensor. Preferably, the direction A coincides with the axis of vision 10 of the optical sensor 8.
[0078] Thus the opening 11 and the field of vision 9 of the optical sensor 8 extend coaxially.
[0079] This allows the aperture 11 to avoid interfering with the field of vision 9.
[0080] We therefore understand that direction A also forms the angle α with the horizontal axis 100.
[0081] We therefore understand that direction A is inclined with respect to the horizontal in the present case.
[0082] Preferably, in order to further limit interference between the field of vision 9 and the opening 11, the opening 11 is shaped to have a wider cross-section than the corresponding cross-section of the field of vision 9 (for the same section plane normal to direction A) and this for at least part of the section of the opening 11 (along direction A) and preferably over the entire length (along direction A) of the opening 11.
[0083] The margin on the dimensions of the opening 11 with respect to those of the field of vision 9 limits the vignetting effects (interference between the box 2 and the field of vision 9) and / or makes it possible to absorb the potential coaxiality defects between the direction A and the axis of vision 10 linked to manufacturing and assembly tolerances.
[0084] Optionally, for the maximum angle of field of vision 9 (i.e. the angle of field of vision 9 which is defined here by a first edge of the pyramid and a second edge of the pyramid not successive to the first), a clearance value of the opening 11 is chosen (i.e. the value of the half-angle at the apex of the cone defining at least in part the opening) increased by 5 to 20% and for example by 13 to 17%. For example, the maximum angle of field of vision 9 is between 30 and 45 degrees and for example between 35 and 40 degrees. For example, the clearance value of the opening 11 is between 40 and 50 degrees and is for example 45 degrees.
[0085] The decoder box 1 comprises a support 12 carrying the optical sensor. The optical sensor is thus fixed to the support. For example, the optical sensor is welded to the support.
[0086] The support 12 is a printed circuit board. The support 12 is thus shaped into a plate. Its thickness is therefore much less than its other two dimensions. The support 12 thus has two main faces. Said faces are flat. Said faces extend parallel to each other.
[0087] The support 12 is itself fixed to the box 2 and arranged inside the box 2. The support 12 is for example fixed to the cover 7. Preferably, the support 12 is fixed to the cover 7 at the level of the upper main face 4 and / or the lateral flank 5 in which the opening 11 is formed.
[0088] For this purpose, the decoder box 1 comprises second means for fixing the support 12 to the casing 2. For example, the second fixing means comprise at least one screw 13 and the cover 7 at least one corresponding screw barrel 14 in which the screw 13 is housed. Preferably, the second fixing means comprise at least two screws 13, each screwing in use into one of the at least two corresponding screw barrels 14 of the cover 7.
[0089] For example, the support 12 comprises at least one hole passing through it so as to open at a first end onto the first main face of the support 12 and at a second end onto the second main face of the support 12, the hole thus extending orthogonally to said faces. Preferably, the support 12 comprises such a hole at a first longitudinal end and such another hole at the other of its two longitudinal ends.
[0090] Thus it is sufficient to arrange a first screw 13 through one of the holes of the support 12 then in the corresponding barrel 14 of the cover 7 and the second screw 13 through the other hole of the support in the other barrel 14, to fix the support 12 to the cover 7.
[0091] As the optical sensor 8 is thus entirely arranged in the box 2, the support 12 being fixed to the cover 7, it is avoided to have to modify the thickness of the lateral flank 5 opposite to arrange the optical sensor 8 inside a potential housing of said lateral flank 5. This would in fact lead to a degradation of the external visual appearance of said lateral flank 5 with in particular the appearance of shrinkage and iridescence which would be detrimental. This would also weaken said lateral flank 5.
[0092] At least one of the barrels 14 extends rectilinearly and longitudinally in a direction F. Furthermore, at least one of the barrels 14 is arranged so that when the support 12 is fixed to the cover 7 via the barrels 14, the direction F is orthogonal to the plane in which the first main face of the support 12 extends.
[0093] According to a particular embodiment, the support 12 is arranged in an inclined manner with respect to the lateral flank 5 carrying the opening 11. Typically at least one of the barrels 14 is arranged so that its direction F is inclined at an angle β with the horizontal axis 100.
[0094] The first main face of the support 12 (the one carrying the optical sensor 8) is therefore inclined correspondingly by an angle γ with respect to a vertical plane 101 (parallel to the X and Z axes), the angle γ having a value equal to that of the angle β.
[0095] Furthermore, the optical sensor 8 is arranged on the first main face of the support 12 so that its vision axis 10 extends orthogonally to said face.
[0096] In this way, the optical sensor 8 is well inclined with respect to the horizontal. We then understand that in this case the angle β is equal to the angle α.
[0097] Preferably, the decoder box 2 comprises at least one protection 16 for the optical sensor 8.
[0098] The protection 16 is here arranged so as to block the second end of the opening 11, the one opening to the outside of the box 2. The protection 16 is therefore arranged on the external surface side of the corresponding lateral flank 5.
[0099] The protection 16 must of course be sufficiently transparent to allow the optical sensor 8 to acquire images. The protection 16 is, for example, a window. Optionally, a treatment is applied to at least a portion of at least one of its faces - for example, the external face of the protection 16, i.e., the one facing the outside of the box 2. The treatment is, for example, an anti-reflective treatment.
[0100] The glass thus protects the decoder box 1 and in particular the optical sensor 8, for example, from dust and / or marks.
[0101] Any traces and / or dust which may be deposited on the protection 16, due to their distance from the optical sensor 8, will be less disruptive to the image quality than if they were located closer to the optical sensor 8 (or on the surface thereof).
[0102] Preferably, the protection 16 is arranged so as not to protrude from the box 2 and in particular from the external surface of the lateral flank 5. Preferably, the protection 16 is arranged so as to form a continuous plane with the external surface of said flank 5.
[0103] This makes it easier to clean the decoder box 1 and / or prevents a potential accumulation of dust which could be detrimental to the optical performance of the optical sensor 8 (such as a drop in contrast).
[0104] It is therefore understood that to ensure continuity of the surfaces, the protection 16 extends in the same plane as the external surface of the associated lateral flank 5. Thus the protection 16 extends in an inclined manner with respect to the axis of vision 10 of the optical sensor 8. In service, the protection 16 thus extends vertically.
[0105] From then on, as more visible to the figures 5 et 6 , the protection 16 prevents the user from being able to view the second end of the opening 11 opening onto the external surface of the lateral flank 5 forming an elliptical intersection with said external surface (and not circular) due to the inclination of the opening 11 with respect to said lateral flank 5.
[0106] Preferably, the decoder box 1 comprises at least a second protection 17 of the optical sensor 8.
[0107] The second protection 17 is here arranged on the internal surface side of the lateral flank 5 carrying the opening 11. Preferably, the second protection 17 is arranged between said internal surface and the optical sensor 8 so as to be pinched between said internal surface and an end surface facing the optical sensor 8.
[0108] This prevents the optical sensor 8 from pressing directly against the housing 2, which could damage it, and / or prevents dust and / or traces from being deposited on the optical sensor 8, in particular its lens.
[0109] The second protection 17 is for example made of foam or any other elastically deformable material.
[0110] The second protection 17 is transparent and / or perforated so as obviously not to interfere with the field of vision of the optical sensor 8.
[0111] On another aspect, the figure 7 illustrates the problem of deformation due to the inclination of the optical sensor 8: in solid lines 20 is represented the captured image of a normally rectangular object. It can therefore be seen that due to the inclination of the optical sensor 8, the object is no longer completely rectangular on the acquired image by being slightly reduced along the vertical axis. It should be noted that the effect is deliberately accentuated on the figure 7 to make the illustration more understandable, the difference being in fact much less significant.
[0112] Optionally, to overcome this drawback, the decoder box 1 includes means for adjusting the images acquired by the optical sensor 8.
[0113] For example, the adjustment means carry out image processing in order to compensate for geometric deformations resulting from the inclination of the optical sensor 8. On the figure 7, in dotted lines is represented the corrected image of the normally rectangular object.
[0114] The processing means are, for example, part of the central processor of the decoder box 1 (in English Central Processing Unit) or the graphics processor of the decoder box 1 (in English Graphic Processing Unit) or even the neural processor of the decoder box (in English Neural Processing Unit).
[0115] Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described but encompasses any variant falling within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
[0116] Therefore, the box may have a different shape than that indicated.
[0117] Although here the two main faces of the box are identical, the two main faces of the box may be different in shape and / or dimensions. For example, the upper main face may be the same shape as the lower main face but of reduced dimensions.
[0118] Although the box here does not have a sharp angle, the box may have corners or sharp angles. For example, two successive lateral flanks may join via an edge (therefore a sharp angle) and / or at least two successive edges of the upper main face and / or the lower main face may join via a sharp edge.
[0119] Although here the two main faces of the box are parallel to each other, the two faces may not be parallel to each other. Similarly, the lateral sides may not be parallel two by two.
[0120] Thus at least one lateral flank may not extend orthogonally to one or both main faces.
[0121] The box can be shaped differently than a parallelepiped and can thus be shaped, for example, into a truncated pyramid or even a cube.
[0122] The opening could be made in the base and not in the hood.
[0123] The decoder box according to the invention could be integrated into a television, or be located in a device offering other functionalities (for example a games console).
[0124] Although here the field of vision of the optical sensor is a truncated pyramid field of vision, the field of vision could be a truncated cone.
[0125] Although here the optical sensor is arranged so that its vision axis is inclined upwards (i.e. towards the upper main face), the optical sensor may be arranged so that its vision axis is inclined downwards (i.e. towards the lower main face).
[0126] The angle α may have a value other than that indicated.
[0127] The support can be a simple plate and not a printed circuit board.
[0128] The support may be arranged in a parallel manner (and not inclined as has been proposed) with respect to the side in which the opening is made, the optical sensor then being arranged so that its vision axis is inclined (and not orthogonal as has been indicated) with respect to one of the main faces of the support.
[0129] Although here the adjustment means are included in the box, the adjustment means may be external to the box. For example, a system may include both the box and a remote component integrating the adjustment means, such as a remote server.
[0130] The adjustment means, whether or not they are part of the camera, can achieve a total or intermediate correction of the distortion of the images according to the ratio of correction of the distortion / loss of resolution targeted. Indeed, the perspective correction will necessarily lead to a loss of resolution - greater on the part undergoing the most significant correction.
[0131] There may also be no image correction.
[0132] The support carrying the optical sensor may include other components than the optical sensor, such as, for example, means for controlling a user / box interface (and for example, a light interface), means for detecting signals from a remote control associated with the box, etc.
