Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a base seal for windows according to the features in the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Document DE 20 2022 105 704 U1 discloses a base seal, particularly for floor-to-ceiling windows, designed in the manner of a room corner, i.e., comprising three mutually perpendicular surface elements as sections of a single, seamless component. The first surface section is designated as the base surface and is intended to be placed on a building's foundation slab, such as a basement or floor slab. The second surface section is designated as the reveal surface because it is intended to be positioned against the window reveal. The third surface section is designated as the wall surface because it is intended to be aligned with the plane of the building's exterior wall, so that, for example, a window sill subsequently installed in connection with the window installation can be positioned against this wall surface of the base seal.
[0003] It is known that sealing against moisture penetrating from the outside can be achieved by applying pasty sealants or elastic profile seals to the inner surface sections facing the window, thus creating a seal against the window frame and / or the window base. The teaching of DE 20 2022 105 704 U1 relates to a horizontally running seal on the wall surface of the base seal, which abuts the lower, horizontal section of the window frame or, below it, the window base, i.e., a front surface of the window frame or window base facing outwards from the building.Furthermore, an upright, in particular vertically running seal is described there, which runs along the reveal surface and abuts the lower, horizontal section of the window frame or below the window the window base on its respective side surface, which runs at 90° to the front surface.
[0004] Close to the context of the invention means that the seal is in contact with the reveal surface, borders on the reveal surface or runs at a short distance from the reveal surface, in particular with a parallel distance of a maximum of 15 to 50 mm, preferably 10 to 15 mm, particularly preferably less than 10 mm or less than 5 mm.
[0005] In the context of the present invention, the term "window" refers to an assembly comprising a (glass) pane, a window frame, and a window sill. The window frame encompasses the pane and rests on the window sill. The window frame and window sill can transition seamlessly into one another, meaning the transition is not immediately apparent. Typically, a lower, horizontal section of the window frame forms the window sill.
[0006] If terms such as "inwards" or "outwards" are used in the context of the present invention, they refer to the orientation of the base seal in an installation situation in which "inwards" faces the interior of the building and "outwards" faces the external building environment.
[0007] In practice, dimensional deviations can frequently occur during the construction of the building wall, and especially during the creation of the window opening, also known as the window recess. This means that the actual width of the window opening often differs from the theoretical width specified in the building plans. If the base seal is intended to connect to the window reveal, the actual gap between two opposing base seals at the two lower corners of the window opening may differ from the theoretical gap specified in the building plans. Since the window is not manufactured according to the actual dimensions of the window opening, but rather according to the plans, gaps may appear laterally from the window to the reveal. The size of these gaps is unpredictable, and they can vary from window to window.
[0008] Document EP 1 741 867 A1, which represents the closest prior art, discloses the design of the two seals such that they seal in the same plane, this plane being parallel to the wall surface of the base seal. The seals used are designed as profile seals with two sections that are angled to each other and create a substantially L-shaped cross-section of the seal. One of the two sections has a bead with a triangular cross-section at its free end, so that this section of the seal profile has an overall arrow-shaped cross-section.
[0009] Document DE 103 10 326 A1 discloses a seal for connection joints and a corner piece for use with such a seal. The corner piece serves to seal the corners of a window frame and is designed as a three-dimensional molded part, in which several wall and floor sections are joined watertight to form a shell segment.
[0010] The present invention aims to propose an improved window connection within a window recess of a building, ensuring a reliable seal. Furthermore, the invention aims to offer an economically advantageous solution.
[0011] The problem is solved by a base seal according to the features of claim 1. Features of the invention are discussed below, with advantageous embodiments of the invention being described, inter alia, in the dependent claims. These design features can be implemented in connection with the invention or be independently inventive, and they can be implemented either individually and independently of one another or in any combination, including the implementation of all the aforementioned features, unless a combination is expressly or technically excluded.
[0012] In other words, according to a first aspect, the presented invention relates to a base seal, wherein the sealing of both the wall and reveal surfaces of the base seal is carried out on the front surface of the window frame and / or the window sill. The invention is based on the consideration that the front surface of both the window frame and the front surface of the window sill located below it are flush in a common plane, so that the two horizontal and vertical seals can easily abut these two front surfaces, particularly when the vertical seal extends upwards from the window sill to the window frame. It is particularly advantageous if the horizontal seal and the vertical seal are sections of a single, common seal.
[0013] In the context of the present invention, when the two seals are described, on the one hand a seal consisting of two separate sealing sections is included, and on the other hand a single, common seal with two sections is included.
[0014] The inventive design of the base seal is advantageous in practice because the front surfaces of the window frame and the window base run in a defined plane, while the perpendicular side surfaces of the window frame and the window base can run at different distances from the window reveal. As proposed, the reliability of the seal can be increased.
[0015] By appropriately designing a seal intended to laterally abut the window frame or window sill, certain tolerances regarding the respective gap width can be bridged. However, designing such a seal is technically complex and / or economically disadvantageous, and in the case of particularly large dimensional deviations, the sealing function of the seal in question may also be impaired, so that the desired sealing effect cannot be reliably guaranteed. The inventive sealing on the front surface avoids such problems, because the gap width that occurs laterally between the window or window sill and the reveal of the window opening does not affect the seal.
[0016] According to the invention, both seals are designed as flat seals, which partly rest against a surface of the base seal and partly project freely beyond it. Surprisingly, it has been found that a flat seal, i.e., a two-dimensional cut from a suitable flat sealing material, is suitable for simplifying a tight connection between the base seal and the front surface of the window frame and / or the window sill. Such a flat seal is available as a commercially available semi-finished product and is therefore considerably more economical than a profile seal, especially if a suitable sealing profile is not already commercially available but would have to be manufactured as a profile strand with the desired profile geometry using a specially designed tool.
[0017] The invention is based on the consideration that, on the one hand, the wall surface of the base seal runs essentially parallel to the plane in which the front surface of the window frame and / or the window base lies, so that a two-dimensional flat seal can be easily attached in such a way that it rests partly against the wall surface of the base seal and partly against the respective front surface, thus bridging the interface between the wall surface and the respective front surface. With this installation, the flat seal retains its two-dimensional, flat shape. The tight seal of the flat seal against these surfaces can be easily achieved by gluing the flat seal to them.
[0018] The invention further proceeds from the consideration that, on the other hand, the reveal surface of the base seal runs perpendicular to the plane in which the front surface of the window frame and / or the window base lies. The flat seal, provided as a two-dimensional, planar surface element, can therefore be easily mounted so that it rests partly against the reveal surface of the base seal and partly against the respective front surface by bending it from its two-dimensional, planar shape into a 90° angled element, which is easily accomplished. In this case as well, the tight seal of the flat seal against the aforementioned reveal and front surfaces can be easily achieved by gluing the flat seal to these surfaces.
[0019] For example, an economically available flat sealing material supplied as roll goods can be used, which is glued to the wall surface of the base sealing and to the respective front surface of the window frame and / or the window base.
[0020] In one embodiment, the vertically extending seal can be arranged at the front edge of the reveal and / or wall surface of the base seal. In another embodiment, the wall surface of the base seal is L-shaped, with a narrow, vertically extending area that connects to the reveal surface of the base seal, for example, to the front edge of the reveal surface.
[0021] In one embodiment, the adhesive is applied in the form of individual beads to the flat gasket and / or the respective front surface before the flat gasket is pressed against the front surface. For example, the adhesive is applied in the form of two or more parallel beads to create multiple moisture barriers and thus ensure a reliable seal.
[0022] In one embodiment, the adhesive is applied evenly and essentially across the entire surface of the flat gasket, for example, as a spray adhesive. By not first applying the adhesive to the front surface of the window frame and / or the window sill, an unwanted excess of adhesive is avoided. Furthermore, applying the adhesive essentially across the entire surface of the flat gasket promotes a reliable seal, since even in smaller areas where the bond might not be effective, the adhesive bonding around these areas ensures the desired seal.
[0023] Two sealing sections running at an angle to each other on the aforementioned front surfaces of the window frame and the window sill can be created using two separate flat gaskets positioned at the same angle. This allows for optimal use of flat gasket components, such as sealing strips supplied on rolls or flat, two-dimensional sealing sheets, and reduces waste caused by cutting. Alternatively, a suitably shaped piece, for example an L-shaped piece, can be cut from the flat gasket component to create a seamless seal and ensure a particularly reliable sealing effect.
[0024] Apart from ensuring the adhesive is applied evenly and across the entire surface of the flat gasket, the ease of handling the base seal on the construction site is further enhanced if the flat gasket is designed to be self-adhesive. Consequently, on the construction site, only the protective film needs to be removed from the section of the flat gasket that extends beyond one or more surfaces of the base seal. This protruding section can then simply be pressed onto the respective front surface of the window frame and / or window base, thus effectively sealing it.
[0025] To ensure a reliable seal, the flat gasket can advantageously have a free overhang of at least 20 mm or 25 mm, in particular 30 to 80 mm, with which it extends beyond those surfaces of the base seal to which it abuts, in order to enable a correspondingly large-area bond with the respective front surface.
[0026] In particular, if no profile rail is mounted on the window frame to serve as a roller shutter guide, the flat seal according to the invention can be used without any problems, since it is then ensured that a sufficiently large area is available on the window frame to which the flat seal can be attached and tightly bonded to the window frame.
[0027] Elastomeric materials known from practical experience can be used for the seals. Particularly preferably, the seals can be made of rubber, especially ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM).
[0028] The three surface elements of the base seal are generally designed to be aligned at right angles to each other. In a further development, the wall surface can be angled inwards so that, at the level of the edge of the wall surface, an opening angle of less than 90° is achieved between the wall surface and the reveal surface, particularly between 80° and 90°, and especially preferably between 85° and 90°. In this way, a pre-tension can be achieved that supports the sealing effect, pressing the seals, or sections of a seal, against the front surface when the window frame or window sill is inserted into the base seal and pressed against the wall surface.
[0029] According to a second aspect, the presented invention relates to a window arrangement which, firstly, comprises a window frame and a window sill arranged below it, and secondly, which comprises a sill seal, wherein the sill seal may have one or more of the features described above. It is essential for the window arrangement that the two seals of the sill seal bear against the front surface of the window frame and the window sill.
[0030] If the window is to be fitted with a roller shutter, so-called roller shutter guides are arranged opposite each other on the front surface of the window frame. These are vertical guide rails in which the respective edge of the roller shutter curtain runs in a groove of the respective roller shutter guide. In one embodiment of the window arrangement according to the invention, the roller shutter guides are arranged closer to the window pane on the window frame, so that a correspondingly narrower roller shutter curtain can be used. This creates sufficient space on the window frame laterally outside the two roller shutter guides to ensure that the vertical seal of the base seal can effectively seal against the window frame.
[0031] In the event that, due to dimensional deviations, the window opening is narrower than planned and the gap between the window frame and the reveal is correspondingly small, the installation of a vertical seal on the front of the window frame may be problematic if the available space laterally outside the two roller shutter guides is insufficient, even with the roller shutter guides offset towards the window pane. To prevent the flat seal from being unduly deformed due to the limited space, which could impair its effectiveness, a recess can be provided in the roller shutter guide in a particularly inventive manner. This recess can be limited to the lower area of the roller shutter guide, specifically to the area at which the vertical seal of the base seal is located. The recess is provided in the profile cross-section of the roller shutter guide at the point where the guide abuts the window frame, specifically on the outer side of the guide facing outwards, i.e., towards the window reveal and away from the groove of the guide. This recess prevents the outer lateral surface of the roller shutter guide from directly contacting the window frame, instead creating a gap into which the vertical seal of the base seal can be inserted, allowing it to properly seal against the window frame.
[0032] In one embodiment, the horizontal and / or vertical seal is bonded to the window frame or the window base. This ensures a reliable seal, as a tight fit of the seal against the front surface of the window frame or window base is guaranteed and maintained.
[0033] Regardless of whether the horizontal and / or vertical seal is designed as a flat gasket, a second sealing zone can be provided in case moisture can penetrate the first sealing zone, which is initially exposed to moisture. This second sealing zone can be in the form of a pasty sealant, which is particularly effective as an adhesive and sealant. This pasty sealant is applied to the inner surfaces of the base seal, i.e., the sides facing the window frame or window sill, for example, in a continuous bead on the inner surfaces of the wall and the reveal, so that the base seal is bonded to the window frame and / or window sill. The uninterrupted bead ensures the desired sealing effect, and the bonding of the base seal to the window frame or the window base fixes the bonded components in their alignment to each other, thus improving and maintaining the effectiveness of the first sealing zone for a long time.
[0034] In one embodiment, the base seal is screwed to the window frame and / or the window base. Regardless of whether the components are glued together, screwing can also ensure that the components maintain their desired alignment relative to each other, for example, to guarantee and maintain the effectiveness of a flat gasket. Furthermore, screwing can be used as an alternative or additional method to applying a pasty sealant or a pasty adhesive and sealant, and serves to fix the components that are to be sealed and / or glued together in their desired alignment, for example, until the adhesive has reached the required bond strength.
[0035] A third aspect of the presented invention relates to an assembly method for manufacturing a window arrangement, wherein the window arrangement comprises a window frame, a window base arranged below it and a base seal, wherein the window arrangement or the base seal may have one or more of the features described above.
[0036] According to the invention, the base seal is attached to a building's base plate and / or to a wall of the building, for example by means of screws and / or adhesive. Furthermore, a window is inserted into the base seal in such a way that the window sill rests on the bottom surface of the sill element. For installation, the seals or sections of a common seal are placed against the front surface of the window frame or the window sill.
[0037] In one embodiment, a pressing tool is advantageously used when applying the two seals. In a particularly inventive embodiment, the tool has a handle section and a pressure section, wherein the handle and pressure sections are oriented at an angle to each other. Advantageously, the pressure section is designed as a flat squeegee. The pressure section serves to press the seal into place and is also suitable for penetrating, for example, into the spaces between multi-layered masonry or between masonry and window, in order to effectively apply the seals to the front surface even when the seal is directly covered by the masonry and / or by a roller shutter guide.
[0038] It is recommended that the base waterproofing be installed on a solid foundation. For the installation process, the base plate can therefore be extended outwards into the window recess of the masonry. The base waterproofing can then be supported section by section on the original base plate and section by section on the base plate extension. It can also be fastened to the base plate (extension) and / or to the building wall by means of screws and / or adhesive.
[0039] Further features, details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the wording of the claims and from the following description of exemplary embodiments with reference to the purely schematic drawings, whereby individual features or a combination of features of the illustrated exemplary embodiments can also be realized independently of the other configuration in a proposed base seal or window arrangement. This shows Fig. 1 a perspective view of a base seal that is not part of the invention, Fig. 2 a perspective view of a window arrangement with the base seal made of Fig. 1 , Fig. 3 a perspective view of an embodiment of a base seal according to the invention, specifically on the inside ( Fig. 3a ) and on the outside ( Fig. 3b ), Fig. 4 a perspective view of the base sealing made of Fig. 3 In an installation situation, Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a window arrangement with the base seal made of Fig. 3 , and Fig. 6 another perspective view of the window arrangement from Fig. 5 .
[0040] Fig. 1 Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a base seal 1, which is designed in the manner of a room corner with three surface elements, each oriented at right angles to the others, as sections of a single, seamless component. The first surface section is designated as floor surface 3. The second surface section is designated as reveal surface 4. The third surface section is designated as wall surface 5 (see also Figure 1). Fig. 2 ).
[0041] In the illustrated embodiment, the wall surface 5 is approximately L-shaped, with a lower section 5a located below a window sill 103 of a floor-to-ceiling window, and an upper section 5b that adjoins the reveal surface 4 as a narrow strip and runs vertically. A sealing profile 20 is attached to each of the two angled edges of the wall surface 5, so that the base seal 1 is not designed according to the invention. The sealing profile 20 has a groove 21 in its cross-section, which receives the respective edge of the wall surface 5. The sealing profiles 20 are bonded to the wall surface 5 by means of adhesive that has been previously applied to the groove 21. Both sealing profiles 20 lie in the same plane and are designed to bear against a front surface 104 of a window frame 101 and the front surface 104 of a window base 102 located below it.The two sealing profiles 20 are glued together where they meet, so that an overall uninterrupted and seamless, L-shaped seal 2 is created.
[0042] The sealing profile 20 is attached to the narrow, vertical sections of the wall surface 5 with its groove 21. Since both sealing profiles 20 bear against the front surfaces 104 of the window frame 101 and the window sill 102, respectively, both sealing profiles 20 can be essentially identical in design, which is economically advantageous. In the illustrated embodiment, they each have a single, curved sealing lip 22 that, in a functional arrangement, bears against the respective front surface 104 under elastic deformation.
[0043] A perspective view of a model window arrangement 100 with the non-inventive base seal 1 made of Fig. 1 shows Fig. 2 , wherein a window including window frame 101 and the window base 102 located below it, which is in Fig. 2 It is concealed by a window sill 103 and therefore not visible, and is inserted into a window opening of a building. For illustrative purposes, the double-shell masonry, i.e., the facing 109 and the backing 108, as well as the insulation layer 107, are only indicated.
[0044] The illustration shows a facing 109 in the form of a brick or clinker wall of a building wall, wherein the facing 109 is arranged on the outside in front of an insulation layer 107, which in turn is located on the outside in front of a backing wall 108. On a base plate 106, which is, for example, in the form of a basement ceiling or a floor slab of the building, is the base seal 1, the bottom surface 3 of which lies on the aforementioned base plate 106, the reveal surface 4 of which runs parallel to the window reveal and the wall surface 5 of which runs parallel to the wall of the building, i.e. parallel to the planes in which the facing 109, the insulation layer 107 and the backing wall 108 extend.
[0045] A perspective view of an embodiment of a base seal 1 according to the invention, looking towards the inside, shows Fig. 3a and points to the outside Fig. 3b It is essential that the base seal 1 is provided with a flat seal 23.
[0046] As already in Fig. 1 show the Fig. 3a und 3b A base seal 1, designed as a room corner, has three seamlessly connected surface sections: a floor surface 3, a reveal surface 4, and a wall surface 5. The wall surface 5 is approximately L-shaped, with a lower, horizontal section 5a, which in the operating position of the base seal 1 is located below a window sill 103 of a floor-to-ceiling window, and an upright upper section 5b, which connects as a narrow strip at the bottom to the lower, horizontal section 5a and laterally to the reveal surface 4. A flat seal 23 is bonded to these two sections of the wall surface 5, which run at an angle to each other.
[0047] In the illustrated embodiment, the flat gasket 23 extends upwards by 50 mm beyond the upper edge of the lower section 5a of the wall surface 5, and in the illustrated embodiment it extends laterally by 35 mm beyond the edge of the upper section 5b of the wall surface 5 beyond the lower, horizontal section 5a.
[0048] In the illustrated embodiment, the flat gasket 23 initially exists as a two-dimensional EPDM sheet. The flat gasket 23 is then folded from its two-dimensional, flat shape by a single, vertically extending crease line according to... Fig. 3b has been bent at an angle, so that it has a wall-side section 23a which is adjacent to and bonded to the wall surface 5, and a reveal-side section 23b which is adjacent to and bonded to the reveal surface 4 of the base sealing 1.
[0049] In the illustrated embodiment, the flat gasket 23 is designed to be self-adhesive and the areas with which its wall-side section 23a extends beyond the wall surface 5 are covered by a protective film 6.
[0050] Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of the base sealing 1 from Fig. 3 from inside the building into the corner of the room formed by the base seal 1. The L-shaped design of the wall surface 5 is easily recognizable. In this installation situation, the window, including the window frame 101 and window base 102, is not yet mounted or installed. Nevertheless, the base seal 1 is shown here in its final position, so that the reveal surface 4 rests against the back wall 108 and the floor surface 3 against the base plate 106. After the base seal 1 has been attached to the base plate 106 and the back wall 108 by means of screws and adhesive, the protective film 6 can advantageously be removed from the flat seal 23, and the protruding area of the wall-side section 23a and the reveal-side section 23b can be pressed against the respective front surfaces 104 of the window frame 101 and / or the window base 102 and sealed to them.
[0051] In contrast to the illustrated embodiments, the upright upper section 5b of the wall surface 5 can be omitted, so that the wall surface 5 consists exclusively of the lower section 5a shown in the drawing. In this case, the wall-side section 23a of the flat gasket 23 protrudes from the Fig. 3b from the right edge of the reveal surface 4 freely to the right, where it does not abut the lower, lying section 5a of the wall surface 5.
[0052] Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of a window arrangement 100 with the base seal 1 made of Fig. 3 , whereby a base seal 1 with sealing profile 20 can also be provided for the following versions, mutatis mutandis. For illustrative purposes, the facing 109 is partially hidden.
[0053] The base seal 1 is shown in its final position. The flat seal 23 rests against the front surfaces 104 of a window frame 101 and a window base 102, with the front surfaces 104 lying in the same plane. In contrast to the first embodiment of the Fig. 2 is in Fig. 5 The figure shows that the window frame 101 has a roller shutter guide 105 on its front surface 104. Compared to many window designs known from practice, in Fig. 5 The roller shutter guide 105 is mounted offset inwards on the window frame 101, i.e. closer to the window sash or closer to the pane, in Fig. 5 so, offset to the right. In this way, the roller shutter guide 105 is on the outside. Fig. 5 So, to the left of the roller shutter guide 105, space is provided on the front surface 104 of the window frame 101 to allow the vertically extending surface seal 23 to rest against this front surface 104 of the window frame 101.
[0054] The roller shutter guide 105 points to the opposite roller shutter guide 105, which is in Fig. 5 Not shown, a longitudinal groove on (in Fig. 5 (not visible), which serves to guide the roller shutter curtain. The wall-side section 23a of the flat seal 23 projects outwards, into Fig. 5 to the left, surprisingly slightly beyond the roller shutter guide 105. Based on the portion of the flat gasket 23 visible below the roller shutter guide 105, it becomes clear that the flat gasket 23 is apparently partially obscured by the roller shutter guide 105.
[0055] For this purpose, the roller shutter guide 105 is provided with a recess 110 in its lower area, whereby the vertically extending section of the flat seal 23 extends into this recess 110 and is therefore partially concealed by the roller shutter guide 105. The recess 110 thus enables the arrangement of the base seal 1 and a seal of the vertically extending flat seal 23 on the front surface 104 of the window frame 101, even in confined spaces. A further perspective view of the window arrangement 100 is shown. Fig. 5 show the Fig 6a und 6b After installing the window, it is recommended to press the flat seal 23 against the front surface 104. However, the trim piece 109 in particular conceals the vertical section of the flat seal 23 ( Fig. 6a ). A pressure tool 111 is therefore particularly advantageous to use with a pressure section designed as an elongated flat squeegee. Fig. 6b Figure 111 shows how the flat gasket 23 can be pressed into place in the spaces of a multi-layered masonry wall, or in spaces between the masonry and the window, or in the recess 110 of a roller shutter guide 105, in order to ensure that the flat gasket 23 can be effectively applied to the front surface 104 even when the gasket 2, in particular the flat gasket 23, is directly covered by the masonry and / or by a roller shutter guide 105. For illustrative purposes, the facing 109 is shown in Figure 111. Fig. 6b partially hidden.
[0056] The invention is not limited to one of the embodiments described above, but can be modified in a variety of ways within the scope of protection of the attached claims. Reference symbol:
