AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current electric vehicle charging stations require costly hardware and certified installation, and existing systems struggle to determine the neutral conductor in Isolated-Terra networks, affecting power output and safety.

Method used

A modular electrical phase distribution unit with multiple input and output terminals, switches, and a primary switch that can reconfigure connections to manage single- and three-phase power across different earthing systems, including Terra-Neutral, Terra-Terra, and Isolated-Terra networks, ensuring efficient and safe charging.

Benefits of technology

Enables cost-effective installation and operation by automatically determining the neutral conductor, optimizing power distribution, and preventing overloading, thus enhancing electrical safety and efficiency in managing various electrical phases.

Abstract

Electrical phase distribution (EPD) unit, an assembly comprising of electrical components, receiving at least one electrical phase power from an electrical power grid with terre-neutre (TN), isolé-terre (IT) or terre-terre (TT) earthing system, wherein the assembly includes; a plurality of input terminals receiving said at least one electrical phase power from the electrical power grid, wherein the plurality of input terminals comprise of a first input terminal, a second input terminal, a third input terminal, a fourth input terminal and a fifth input terminal, a plurality of output terminals, and a plurality of switches in connection with the plurality of output terminals, wherein the plurality of switches comprises of a first switch, a second switch, a third switch, a fourth switch, a fifth switch, a sixth switch, a seventh switch, an eighth switch and a ninth switch, characterized in that, the plurality of output terminals of the assembly provide said at least one electrical phase power to an electric vehicle, wherein the first switch or the ninth switch provide a neutral circuit between one of the plurality of input terminals and one of the plurality of output terminals.
